So I asked @kidspawn what they wanted for their birthday and they said they want to watch me play NieR: Automata, and chat? This game is everything I was hoping it would be, and so far very little of what I was warned it was.

It's gorgeous, atmospheric, the music fucking slaps, and I am in love with my new princess with a disorder and his tank gf.

Cute barista recognized me by name bc she knows my fav professor whos talked super highly about my discussions on queer lit in her class meanwhile I just emerged from a 9 hour hyperfocus-induced all-nighter working on that same profs final (I've barely actually been working on it I've just been drawing my ocs being gay and calling it progress) wearing the same clothes as yesterday and very obviously on the verge of passing out

This is my formula for breaking tension in a subtle and calm way.

Probably only works for my specific situation but try it if you've ever got 2 people and a too tense atmosphere.

Me and my parents wash up the dishes all together and we have a radio that we play music from. In this specific tense situation, I play 3 songs and afterwards people are laughing again.

The order goes as follows:

1. Lemon boy, Cave Town.

2. Devil town, Cave Town.

3. Meteor shower, Cave Town.

Specifics and theories under the cut-

Specifics for playing the songs-

1. Lemon boy should be played at a low volume, not low enough to be missable but loud enough to not be offensive and leave room for thought.

2. Devil town can be played slightly louder, I specifically play verson 2.

3. Meteor shower can be played at a typical volume, this song is all about the melody so playing it at a good volume will allow that melody to hit deeper.

Theories on why this has worked for me several times-

1. Lemon boy is very reflective, with a darker edge to it that allows tense emotions to be felt and understood but then allows a swift move on to reflect and leaniance to these feelings be altered.

2. Devil town is a slightly higher, more consistent tempo, and the lyrics come into play here quite often, especially when It's my parents who are the stressed ones.

3. Lastly, Meteor shower is a very harmonic, beautiful song with lyrics more based on love and gentle acceptance. Allowing tense feelings to relax and overall a sense of moving on.

So the motions go, validate and reflect, open up to change, relax and rekindle.

Put it all together and I'm an evil social mastermind who's managed to morally manipulate my parents emotions.
