Moooore D&D rants: BUCKLE UP THIS IS A LONG ONE

We've had a months long rest for this one campaign because literally nobody had time. During the first session after all these months the DM and some of the players did a recap, and we exchanged notes so we're back on track.

ONE PLAYER, literally did not participate in this. During the session, completely quiet, didn't do anything. Only thing they did is that they kept spamming about literally doing anything but participating. -Playing a mobile game -Reading tweets -Eating -Leaving the D&D chat to check out other channels on the discord. -Humming to themselves

But what really took the cake was them then getting mad when one of the players took an action with an NPC who we're gonna take along for a mission. Absent-Player heard the NPC's name and immediately went into chat and started being mad about the other player taking that specific action. No the Absent player did not state they're mad, it just was the general tone and appearance of the message coupled with their complete lack of interest to anything involving the campaign till now that gave this vibe.

This was written in chat, but I'm changing it slightly. So the initial Absent players chat message was like: Hey why are you doing that with (NPC name)? You know I wanted to do that. (This is their fave NPC btw)

The player in question was pretty deadpan about it: You could have taken this action earlier in the session, and by now we really needed someone to do it. Absent player: Well I didn't know I could do that. Deadpan player: You could have asked. The DM told us during the recap that we could do certain actions, ask questions, and interact with NPCs to get back into the campaign. AP: Well I didn't realize, ok? DP: That's not my fault though. *One player tried to placate AP and say that they are the NPC's fave* AP: I am bad at taking actions. AND I was just joking, I wasn't actually mad. DP: Ok? I don't see why you'd pretend to be mad though?

(Yeah no shit AP is bad at taking actions, asking questions and literally playing D&D when they're never active)

The Absent player is one of those people who always uses tone indicators, so I don't think anyone bought the "I'm not mad" thing because they only mentioned not "actually being mad" when literally no one would speak up for them, and obviously because no one accused them of being mad. Only one player tried to placate the situation, but didn't actually side with them about the "You deserve to interact with the NPC, because that NPC is your fave."

I think the reason some of us players are exasperated with Absent-player is because this person hasn't been properly active for several sessions, unless it involves their specific interest, which includes the NPC and some weird character quirk.

Like at this point, I know that me, and three other players just have written off this player as a dud who's just dragging down the enjoyment. One of these players also was a DM some time ago, and mentioned how AP was their least fave player because AP literally never interacted with anyone. Even NPCs and objects specifically made for their character to interact with. Only time AP got mildly interested was during a short BBEG encounter, and then wouldn't stop talking/hinting at/demanding to be able to get with the BBEG, which the DM was incredibly uncomfortable with based on that short campaign, and of course AP's constant refusal to otherwise play. "It'd be like giving someone a praise for disrespecting everyone else." Was a bit of the shared sentiment.

aren't we lucky to live in a time in which technology is so easy to use and convenient for connecting us with friends? an old friend of mine died suddenly and I was the only one of the friendgroup able to make it down in time for the service (because I left work and started driving immediately after the news) but I promised my grieving out of state friends I'd discord video call them so they could view the service, since we were all on a discord channel together. at the service I mentioned this to the father of my friend and he asked if I could also send him the video. I couldn't figure out how to start a call on discord because unlike on desktop there's no button to press on mobile, my friends kept telling me to press the audio record button, which only makes an audio recording. ok, well, I wanted to save a video for friend's dad anyway, so I'll just record a video and share it with everyone later, I apologize to my friends waiting in the chat who thought they would be able to view the service with us. I record the service feeling bad about that but hey this is something. it's long and the file is big so of course I can't just send it in the chat. Can I email it to friend's dad? no. It doesn't even give me the option to share as google drive link. I try to upload it to drive manually. it's telling me I don't have enough space and I need to upgrade to their subscription service. I delete several old videos from drive and try again. it still says there's no space. I upload it as an unlisted video on youtube (so it's not public but anyone with a link can view it). this takes literal days to finish uploading but finally it's there. at last, I've fulfilled my duty, at least a little bit. I send everyone the links as I'm getting on a plane to go back to work, extremely emotionally and physically exhausted. when I look at my messages later they're asking me to un-private the video so they can watch it. that's weird, it wasn't private in the first place? I go look at it. ah I see. It's blocked because there were copyrighted songs played at the funeral. maybe I can upload it to facebook? but I don't have facebook on my phone for a variety of reasons (don't use it, also it's got an unusually high amount of tracking and weird data stuff associated with the app even for how bad apps usually are) so I need to get the file on my computer. plug my phone in with transfer cable. the prompt to file share does not show up to initiate file sharing. wait, I can access youtube on my computer, can I download the video that way? yes I can. will facebook block it too? how long will it take to upload there? am I doomed to fail my promises again and again? I thought I was lucky in being able to be at the funeral and that this would give me closure but it's dragging after me like an albatross. my friend's dad just texted me could I Please share the video with him because he wants to watch it. believe me man I'm trying

I start the download and start typing this post in frustration. i finish the first paragraph and check on the download. download failed. I click retry. I type some more. I check on the download. download failed. retry. download faile.d retry. download failed. I am literally keeping track of how many times this happens. I'm not exaggerating. wow it kept downloading for a while that time--download failed. retry. download failed. retry. did I mention I have covid right now, possibly from traveling to the funeral, and I'm out of breath and almost lightheaded from walking up stairs, so I can only imagine the breathing issues that have been getting progressively worse with every infection are going to make it even harder for me to exist the way I want to after this. download failed, retry. is there not enough space on my computer? I cleared up space recently, and shouldn't it tell me if that's the issue? I have a hard drive I could get out it necessary, but I don't really want to save this albatross, I want to get it out somewhere the people I promised to share it with can see it and forget about it for a while. it only needs to be on my computer long enough to upload to facebook. download failed. retry. when do I know I should give up on this? download failed. retry. this is becoming a metaphor for grief now and I resent it. it says the download will be complete in 28 seconds. maybe this time? it's said 28 seconds for a while. download failed. opening in 32 seconds. 19 seconds. fuck it's stuck on 4. so near and yet so far. yep. download failed. 6 seconds. holy shit I've got it. it's on my computer. I open up facebook on my devoted 'shitty websites container' browser (chrome, I also leave my amazon account logged in on there in case I'll rarely need something) and try to upload. loading. There's no time estimate even. just a 'posting' spinning loading circle. I'm terrified I'll accidentally close the window and have to start over before it's done. I don't know if my discord friends have facebook. can I silence the audio on the parts of the video so I can share it unlisted on youtube? I'd have to do some in depth video editing of a kind I've never done before, though I have done some basic video editing in the past--years ago--so maybe I could figure it out. this is a week past the funeral at this point. it just keeps going.

RP PET PEEVES: I'd have to say a lack of communication? If you're not happy with something or you're not sure, speak to who you're writing with! I understand it can be hard reaching out or feeling like you're being a pest, but I still think that no question is a stupid one...plus, I'm pretty sure if you approached someone about their lore/interpretation, 9 times out of 10, they're going to be really excited to talk about it with you! Also, as Ink said in her own post, I'm not a fan of knee-jerk call-out cut you dead behaviour. Writing/roleplaying is supposed to be a fun hobby and we all just want to yell about our muses in the end!

EXPERIENCE/HOW MANY YEARS: So, I've actually been roleplaying since about 2008-2009 but that was on a private Skype chat and via emails of all things boy howdy am I showing my age. But, I've officially been roleplaying on Tumblr since around 2012. My first blog was Oogie Boogie from the Nightmare Before Christmas (that blog is still up and I do occasionally check in!) and an OC called Shadow who was...literally Oogie's shadow. I've played a bunch of muses since then, too and all over the place!

FLUFF, ANGST, or SMUT: ALL THREE! Anything and everything, honestly. I will say, though, the only thing I don't tend to write is graphic smut. I prefer fade to black where applicable!

LONG/SHORT REPLIES: Either! I tend to try and match the vibe of who I'm writing with, but Poet has the habit of straying into purple prose because...drama king and I do love a bit of background description to set the mood and world build!

BEST WAY TO INTERACT: Shoot me an ask meme, like a starter call, chuck me a DM or take a look at my opens! Come and chat to me, I don't bite.

BEST TIME TO WRITE: I'm a UK girlie and I'm conscious that not everyone I write with is in the same timezone, so I'll occasionally pop a few responses in the queue so that they're yeeted out at the right time, but I'll normally get onto my laptop in the late afternoon and start replying to things. I also occasionally answer asks on mobile or I'll hoard them until I have an idea for a response - if you've ever sent me an ask and it's not been answered, that's why - because I want to make sure I write the best replies I can.

Sorry for being so silent on here for a while but current hyper fixation update:

While looking at chat alternatives to discord and trying to focus on privacy I've tried simplex chat which does everything I want privacy wise but part how it's designed is that all your info is on your device (and can be backed up and moved to another phone if needed) which is cool and all but not sure all my friends would be up for that >.>...

Looked into Matrix Protocol and XMPP and if I want to do voice chat I'd need to use like the right clients on mobile and desktop for either though it may be easier to set that up for most of my friends on Matrix I prefer the encryption of XMPP via OMEMO due to it having future and forward secrecy which Matrix (from my understanding) can use forward secrecy but they don't implement it due to changing it can affect how other things run. Not like totally deal breaking especially since it may be easier to get more people to use Matrix clients than XMPP but I'll have to poke at it more

Oh I'm sorta bimbo at the moment but been thinking about these above two messengers because

they also have desktop clients unlike simplex and signal that require that your phone is connected to the desktop via an honestly neat system to be able to chat on my keyboard and mouse

speaking of phones those two above though really private and secure require that you use your phone though unlike signal simplex chat doesn't even need to use a phone number

and I've been looking at private chat messengers due to well wanting something that isn't discord for the sake of privacy of my communications with my dear friends and my god discord mobile app is so awful.

Sometimes I have to close and reopen the app multiple times in a row in hopes of getting to see a message someone sent me or got sent in a server and even then it can and has missed my messages and the messages of others <.<

While not usually brought up, but Kar has attempted to end her life and self-harmed. Nowadays it’s usually just masked with fatalistic humor, recreational drug use, and lots of drinking. 

There will be mentions of Nazis particularly of the occult sort, so if that makes you uncomfortable please feel free to step away.

About the mun: My name is Wolf. I am 25+ They/them. I have a learning disorder, dyscalculia & dyslexia. Please be patient with me. I tend to switch between past & present tense & write in a stream of consciousness. Spelling mistakes & grammar mistakes are likely on my end, as this isn't my strong point. (but I try) I love writing regardless & use it as a form of escapism, but also to meet cool people with similar interests. I'm always happy to chat or plot with mutuals. I'm very easygoing & I care about the comfort of my writing partners.

My writing tends to deal with themes of identity, gender, sexuality, trauma, mental illness & sometimes suicide. Hey. I'm heavily depressed and hyperfixating on Don't Starve Together. Would anyone be interested in playing a world with me? I'm kinda new kinda not, weird middle place with 700+ hours to the game but still die to Ruins. My friend cant play with me and as much as playing alone is fun I kinda dont want to do it, like at all.

I want to be Wormwood, so characters like Wickerbottom or Wurt (especially Wurt) or hell whoever you want really can do. I kinda really want to play support and base building (with resource gathering as well dont worry) but it's a little hard when I'm all alone.

If you want to or it sounds fun or you just dont want to have the hassle of finding new servers, I can host one. I'll have a password, you can dm on Tumblr and I'll have a discord server. Voice chats are preferable.

I'm lgbtq+ friendly, disabled (mentally and physically), leftist, and have full support of marginalized groups even those I'm not apart of (I know low bar). Also I'm fully agaisnt Isreal in their genocide to Palestine and the Gaza Stripe. I do joke but I have trouble reading the room so call me out if it's too much.

I want to be sure if you want to play that we connect, so I put down my basic morals. This won't be a political chat (preferably), it's just a way to cheer up and have fun! I'm lenient too when it comes to this game, often basing on Pearl's Island (I find the small space and lack of mobility a fun challenge) so if you want to base somewhere like near a swap (even in one lmao) I can 🙂
