#I'm so not sure what to do about hobie's pronouns in headcanons

How are you even cooler under your mask? (Headcanon edition. Canon's Razor version here)
Warning- i cannot decide what to do with Hobie's pronouns
Some context - I'm so here for the headcanon that Gwen was gushing bout Miles to Hobie while she crashed there. Totally accidentally hyping him up and getting um excited to meet him.
-First taking off the mask
'Ok. Keep it steady. Don't seem too eager to know what he looks like'
Tumblr media
-Noticing Miles looking to final frame before Miles says it
Glancing over all chill and casual. Even adjusting the nose piercing with a potentially unattractive face (lol sorry, Hobie. Miles maybe thought you were winking at him)
Tumblr media
-The first and last frame of Miles saying it with some well lit ones between
-The first frame and 3 after Miles says it
But then Miles has absolutely zero chill. Does not control his expression. Just straight up calls him cool. Not hiding a damn thing and Hobie cracks lol (Miles looks like 'it's literally not even fair how cool you are')
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-In summary~
Tumblr media
-Hobie's so upset to be going into the spiders' den without clear allies and then Miles thinks he's cool and e just lights up and it's so adorable
Some further headcanon context: I think Hobie tried too hard to be impressive, made Miles feel inferior and defensive, misread that defensiveness as playful teasing and reciprocated what was actually antagonism. This moment was a second chance for first impressions. Miles had really not been picking up on what icebreakers Hobie had been laying down so there was no reason to expect things to go so well so fast.
(And I have several additional notes depending on what multiverse we've stumbled into. I'll start from my least favorite so the post ends on the best note imo)
-Hobie clocked Gwen for the failed ally that she's being and came into this knowing e was going to be the only person actually looking out for Miles. This would make first impressions super important and Hobie probably had already realized a few mistakes were made while masked up. Of course it would be immensely relieving to know that things weren't already horribly damaged between them!
-Shipper Hobie. Especially if Hobie is actually older, e's just doing is best to be a good wing spider to Gwen. Hobie makes sure not to place emself between the two (ok once in the panic of Mumbattan and once to allow Miles to shove im). They even consistently walk ahead of them so they can be as alone together as is possible in a crowded place. The only time they walk without Miles is when Gwen hurried to catch up. (And this isn't because Miles is putting himself between them intentionally. I don't think that ever happens)
-Polyamory mission. Gwen is down for it and Hobie just needs to play it cool enough that they can build up to talking to Miles about it without freaking him out. The main focus would have probably been just making sure he didn't feel so threatened that Gwen seeing other people wouldn't be cool. But then Miles thinks Hobie is cool. And then oh no he's cute. Maybe there's a chance for turning that potential poly angle into a potential poly triangle and the plan has definitely evolved.

How do you think the spider gang would react to Gwen coming out as trans? I think they'd all be supportive, but I'm curious if you have details
I am going to be honest with you anon, I had been looking at this question for weeks, thinking about it, and...I am not coming up with much.
I am trans, I don't have that much experience with people reacting to that- and I am not making any more comments about that.
Going back to the original question- I think all of them would be supportive; regardless of background or history, I feel doing anything else would be a disservice to the characters, and also, a type of story I really don't have interest entertaining, (Would Noir, being from 40s, be reasonable to have his apprehensions and need to overcome it? Yes, I am interested in seeing something like that? Personally, fuck no.)
Now, it doesn't mean there cannot be hiccups- all well intending, of course.
(Specific characters under the cut because, as always with me, it got long.)
Peter B I see going over the top; talking how brave Gwen is, and that he supports her no matter what, he also reads a book on trans people and tell hims about the people in his universe who are trans. Gwen appreciates it, but it can be uncomfortable at times.
Noir, regardless of time period, would be supportive, but mixes up terminology. The poor guy already struggles with the pop culture lingo, so throwing queer lingo into the mix can make things awkward; specially since, as a spider-man, he has defended the marginalized people of his dimension and is aware of the community, but- that community had its own terminology that may not be appreciated to day. Is a growing curve.
In my opinion, Ham is a much of a man as Bugs Bunny, meaning gender isn't as important as commitment to the bit; so I can see him busting a dress all of the sudden and saying "I get you sis." Accordingly, if asked about his own gender, he is pretty much "normally a guy, but in general whatever fits better with the scene."
Peni I headcanon as nonbinary, so I think she would be happy to meet another person who isn't cis. Definitely would have lots of talk about presentation, tricks for clothes a make up, the works.
Margo is cool about it, there isn't much to say there; she just tells Gwen that it doesn't change anything between them, and she is still invited to come for the slumber parties (Margo has thrown a bunch in the Spider-Society, because anything to spend as little time mentally at home as possible.)
Pavitr: "Oh so you are like a hijra? That's so cool!" (This is a term from a place I am not from, so I can't talk in length about it, feel free to look it up because it is indeed, very cool.) While not the same, he ends up telling more about how people in his dimension see transgender people, Gwen finds it overall really interesting.
Hobie is, of course, cool about it. He is a punk, noncomformist, and "hates labels," he could probably tell Gwen a stupid amount of things about queer history, intersectionally, so far and so forth. Despite using he/him pronouns, I believe with all my heart Hobie would not give a shit about gender roles and dress how he likes, and be okay with any pronouns. This has nothing to do with your question, but I headcanon that Hobie has been the queer awakening of many other teens of the Spider-Society as he strolls down in whatever outfit he feels like it.
Now Miles, is obviously supportive. I think he may be oblivious to many things (I headcanon him as bi for a long awhile, but I am not sure if that's something he knows already or has yet to discover,) so he asks questions, but is always respectful and has no trouble answering. Overall, Gwen thinks is cute how much Miles dotes on her, and reminding her that she will always be the prettiest girl alive to him.
Huh, I guess I had more to say that I expected, this was fun! Thanks for the question and sorry for the delay.

Hobie Brown headcanons because I am so normal about him (I am extremely delusional.)
Tumblr media
Hobie seems like he'd be bisexual. He just gives off that energy. Maybe leans more towards liking men?? Like. 60/40 type shit. He also probably uses He/They pronouns. (Maybe even some neopronouns!)
He absolutely did his own piercings. Why go pay to get your piercings done and fund a capitalist society when he could just do it himself?
He has a lucky guitar pick. I can't explain why he does but he absolutely does. It's the one thing he makes sure he'll never lose.
ADHD haver. He doesn't believe in consistency and in the movie he seems a little bit all over the place but in a fluid way that makes sense?
If someone else (besides Gwen and Pav) were to ever see his apartment it'd be a mess but in an organized way, he knows exactly where everything is and sometimes Gwen and Pav find it a little strange (in a good way though! They're both used to it and think it's interesting that Hobie knows exactly where what is).
He can learn how to play songs on his guitar by ear. It's actually really cool cause he'll listen to the song a few times and then starts playing it like he knew it the entire time.
Definitely a dumpster diver, he makes little trinkets from the stuff he gets from the dumpsters. Also he seems like he'd be into thrifting and vulture culture?
I will add more when I can think of more because I'm tired and I just woke up.

Look. You are asking people to use particular pronouns for characters who don’t use that in canon. How is that not shoving it down our throats?
Okay, so I will actually grace you with an answer for one of your asks, but you do know that this is Tumblr right? As far as I am aware (unless some new stuff went out which could be possible) this is a blogging website.
There is no algorithm that is pushing my stuff into your dash. You are either following me, or following someone who is reblogging from me. But either way, you are basically being an active participant in my content.
When I say "please use she/her pronouns for Zimelu" or any pronouns for any character, that means please use them when referring to that character to me. And even then I am saying "please" as in "it would be nice for you to use these pronouns because I see that character using these pronouns."
I have answered plenty of asks with pronouns for characters who I do not share those pronouns with, but I have the decency and respect to use the pronouns of the asker because that is their headcanons.
And sure, you might not see a certain character with those pronouns, but I am in my own bubble. You are either following me or following someone who is agrees with me (or the asker) enough to reblog my work. So no, I am not shoving my headcanons down your throat because you can easily unfollow or block me in order to not see what I am making or answering.
I know not everyone uses she/her for Zimelu or Ze/Mer for Sayu, and I respect that. Honestly if you see my tags for any Sayu post, I explicitly don't use pronouns at all because I personally use Ze/Mer while others might just use She/Her. But that's the thing, I am being respectful of other people's ideas and headcanons.
I can see if I was going into other people's blogs or images and forcing my pronoun/queer/any kind of headcanon on a character, but I'm not. I am literally in my own bubble ASKING people to be polite and use the pronouns I use for my specific version of a character.
I won't be mad if someone uses he/him for Zimelu or she/her for Sayu, but it makes me happy when someone uses the pronouns I specifically use for that character.
Plus, another thing is that most of the pronoun headcanons I get, are from other people and asks. Before I showed any interest in Spidervers on my blog, I saw Hobie and Noir as using he/him pronouns, and it's only from people sending in their own headcanons that I also adopted the they/them Noir and it/they Hobie headcanons. So those aren't even really mine.
Literally this is tumblr. If you like something on here it doesn't go to your followers, and I barely tag my asks/headcanon posts as the main tag for a fandom, so that means you are either a follower of mine or you follow someone who reblogs from me. So those are the only reason I am on your dash. If you don't like it, then you can block me or block my tags (#eritlalks, #spidertalk, #nsrtalk, stuff like that).
Otherwise, I am not going to just stop showing queer content (or any diverse content) just because you personally don't want to see it. This isn't twitter, tiktok, or instagram where random people show up on your dash/feed and show you something you don't want to see.
If you are really upset with me "shoving my ideas down your throat" grow up and block me. I'm not going to block you because frankly I find your comments funny, but also because I don't see a need to.
Plus, honestly I like to keep asks that I don't intend to answer. I have a ton that I know I will never answer (mainly because they squick me out or something like that) that I don't delete because I like to keep an archive. Which is why I am not personally gonna block you, because I am pretty sure that will delete your asks, and I want to keep those for fun (me and my friends and family have talked mad shit about you lol).
So yeah. either block me yourself or get used to seeing my content. Those are really your only options because I am not going to stop being in my own little bubble and making content the way I want to make content.
I don't care if you use one set of pronouns for a character while I use another. If you send in an ask about Sayu using she/her or Peni using she/her, I'm gonna use the pronouns you use. But personally, I will use the pronouns I use (Sayu=Ze/Mer, Peni=Kit/She) when talking about characters because I can. This is MY space. MY blog.
I am basically screaming into the void and if you happen to be in earshot then either cover your ears or walk out of my range so you don't hear me. Those are your options.

If you have any Ghostpunk(no polyship)hcs pls share!
(I don't think I kept Hobie's pronouns consistent. I'm sorry)
- Hobie has a Love At First Sight crisis about every Gwen variant they see. Absolutely cannot stay steady in the presence of a Gwen. Wants all the hugs. Must protect
- Hobie loves when Gwen leaves behind her jumpers. He hates waking up to find her 100% gone
- Hobie thinks it's adorable how Gwen taps out rhythms absentmindedly while she's doing other things. She'll be studying something completely unmusical but will tap out a reminder on her thighs. (Think about Wolf Children. "I'm gonna be a little girl all the way home~") She's absolutely unaware of it most of the time she's doing it
- Gwen is so stunned that Hobie lives alone. How do they *own a boat!?* - Hobie is surprised that she's surprised. "I stole it?? Just theft???? Do a theft!?!?"
- Hobie delivered Gwen's watch to her dad not long after they say "I quit." They had already been working on that watch after knowing what her situation was and it was gonna be a happy surprise. The stuff he's stealing is to make Miles and others watches, cause they know Gwen will put herself in danger if he doesn't keep Miles safe, and also they know they're about to run out of time to gather supplies for however many other watches they may need
((I know you prefer POC Gwen so I'm sorry my headcanons are White Gwen based sometimes 😭 ))
- Gwen is often super worried about race stuff. She glitches out in some situations. Total deer in the headlights. Not wanting to say the wrong thing, but not sure what the correct response is
- she cries when Hobie expects her to gracefully accept being the butt of "the whites aren't ok" jokes she's unaware of. She thought she had gotten past that.... She didn't realize she needed to grow more.... Does Hobie know she's not like that and this is a moment where she should laugh along for the bit? They wouldn't have said it if she wasn't supposed to laugh with right? She laughs and goes along because she knows Hobie is probs right but she can't figure out why rn and hates waiting to ask

I love how some people just come into your inbox rainbow beaming (aka queer HCs to everyone) their faves
And they are doing a damn good job of it! o7
But seriously, it's a lot of fun seeing what people come up with. Also really nice that even if people don't agree/share a specific headcanon, they can still be respectful of it.
Honestly don't know how many people send me in things since it's almost always anonymous. Could be 5 or could be 20, but either way, people just seem to build up on each other's ideas and I just love that a whole lot!
Like, as an example, people using exclusively they/it for Hobie while coming into my askbox is just so nice to see! I'm sure some people don't see Hobie using only they/it, maybe it uses neopronouns or all pronouns, or maybe just using he/him in a queer way (or not queer at all), but they are nice enough to respect this little space I was able to make and use these headcanons I use (and others who follow me).
I don't know, it's just really nice! I try to validate people who send in queer headcanons (or just any hc) even when I don't share that headcanon myself. It's just fun to share and talk about stuff!
One of the examples I can think of mainly when I think of this, is how a lot of the fanbase sees Zimelu as a guy (or trans guy) while I and some others I know see Zimelu as a trans girl using she/her pronouns. If someone wants to send an ask about transguy Zimelu, or hc Zimelu as just cis using he/him, I'd be super happy to talk about it even though my personal hc is she/her transgirl Zim.
Sorry, that was a bit of a ramble. And I KNOW I've talked about this before. But it really is just so nice that I was able to make a little bubble where people can send me in their headcanons and (for the most part) I answer them and we can have fun little discussions!
