So, there's any interesting stuff that those Insomnian undergrads heard in Little Galahd? Either by asking questions and actually getting some answers or just plain eavesdropping on people who didn't realise they understood Hadnissa?

Well, first step for the poor undergrads (who just got a research fund granted for their little project via the Crown and holy shit, is that amount of money for real??) establish themselves in the neighbourhood.

They get a small apartment in Little Galahd. It's just above a pub, which makes it a bit cheaper, though two of the three aren't really sure the price reduction makes up for the noise.

Because here's what they first learn about the Galahkari: they are loud. They don't teach their children to be quiet, they do not lower their voices in public spaces. Fights between friends/spouses/neighbours/etc. can take place in the middle of an open street and no one will find it strange or tell them to stop. There's always someone playing music on a street corner.

Galahkari are social. Very social. Is the thing. And pubs seem to be a kind of hub for them to meet. There's always somthing going on.

The second thing they learn about the Galahkari: they always speak to each other in Hadnissa. So learning a second language it is. All three feel like they're in a foreign country when they're just in a different neighbourhood in the city they've spent their entire lives in. They tackle that problem with a kind of manic energy that would scare most people and would have the Galahkari compliment them for their tenacity.

They also learn pretty quick that the learning modules for the language they have are horribly inadequate.

The third thing they learn about the Galahkari: they love to gossip. There is a highly complex social web at work, which at least one of the undergrads has been entirely consumed by. It's very rapidly becoming their life goal to figure it out. There's a whiteboard in their room with names and relations and what different words might mean and their connotations. (It'll take w while for them to figure out that families and Clans are different. That there are basically 5 different words for each kind of familial relations that can conceivably exist.)

The biggest thing they learn about the Galahkari: how they tell their stories. That those stories are history. How much sheer weight the Galahkari put on them.

There's this teaching round in the afternoon a couple times a week in the pub they live above. A very old woman is teaching - she seems to be highly respected - telling stories to people ranging in the age bracket from young adult to middle aged. The undergrads always make a point to sit at a table close by when it's happening. In the beginning they were side-eyed hard, but when they didn't do or say anything - didn't show signs of understanding them, because at first they truly didn't - they were left alone.

So one late afternoon, after the old woman finished yet another story - this one about a man named Irata Khara, who was apparently some kind of pirate and sailed along Leviathan's coils?? - the students can ask questions. That is when one of the undergrads blurts out a question aber the ascertainment of the timeline of these stories in accented but functional Hadnissa. The whole pub goes deathly quiet.

The undergrads might see their lives flashing in front of their eyes, the tension has grown so thick. Then one of them suggests - still in Handissa - that maybe the first person used the wrong grammar while asking their question. It devolves into a discussion about particles and tenses in the weirdest mix of Hadnissa and Lucian the Galahkari have ever heard.

Then the old woman actually answers the question. The tension breaks.

Storytime with the Sage: The Nephiri, "Those Who Would Be Angels"

The Age of Primordium, the time before the Great Catastrophe, was laden with many strange creatures and customs. Not the least among them were creatures which would come to be known as the Nephiri, a name from the ancient Celestial "Nephitum vos Irata," roughly translated to "Those Who Would Be Angels."

Indeed, these were beings of great power who, had the circumstances been different, might have been called angels. In this time, the strange energies of the Elder Entities was still bleeding into the Multiverse, as the barriers between the Wheel and what lies beyond would not be fully solidified until the Black Dawn's defeat. Where the might of the gods infused with mortal souls would create the great, shining beacons of justice we call angels today, the unknowable and inexorable offshoots of the Elder Entities manifested as the Nephiri.

Each Nephiri was unique, though there are some through-lines that can be followed. As a rule of thumb, the Nephiri had strange anatomy, often missing large portions of their bodies, and never had a full, conventional face. Their anatomy varied widely from instance to instance beyond that. Unending masses of appendage and bone-like exoskeleton accompanied by a powerful sense of dread.

As the Elder Entities and the Nephiri were not bound by divine law, or seemingly any law for that matter, the Nephiri posed significant threats to areas they passed through. As such, the gods across the pantheons championed faithful families to destroy these creatures whenever they threatened civilizations. These families were known as the Inducted, or, more colloquially, "Titan Slayers."

When the Elder Entities were banished from existence, the Nephiri went with them, either being dragged into the space beyond with their progenitors, or sealed in blanch-white stone. Many weathered spires of rock exist deep beneath the surface of Ardowin, and are rumored to be remnants of those forsaken statues.

Like many dragons, Monaldo is a hedonist, appreciating every pleasure in  life. Among his favorite drinks are coffee, red wine, and the blood of  other dragons. Obviously, given their preferences, they soon managed  to make friends with the demons with whom they trade, maintaining a  relationship with them based on mutual pleasure as well as on monetary  exchange; however, it is a more "innocent" relationship than one might  think, and meetings often involve reading good books, appreciating works  of art, good food, chats and drinks (including, obviously, coffee).
