Pale adjacent ecosystems must be so fucking weird. You have the "opportunistic microorganisms" that live in the porch collapse, a kind of mould according to Joyce. Probably there's things that feed on that that have adapted to the conditions as well.
Are there predators that lurk in the pale and jump out and catch prey? Are there prey animals that specialise on hiding deep in the pale to avoid predators? Animals that migrate through the pale because they've done so on this particular path for hundreds of generations and are not about to stop just because of this little hindrance, thank you?
Is the pale mutagenic or do animals just evolve to handle it? Imagine animals with some sort of specialised tempo-spatial organs that can survive much deeper in the pale than humans do. Animals that have fewer dimensions than we have. All the organisms that don't have memories or even brains and therefore handle near pale just fine.
Imagine vast, untouched forests in the pale. Imagine the things that live in them.

tbh still thinking about these tags, re: my Relvin's Life is a Tragedy post:
#godddd like I do think liliana's a lost cause at this point if primarily cuz it's just too late#but like if you don't want ludinus dead for taking advantage of this tragedy ALONE#idk how to fuckin help you. just do not know. (@essektheylyss)
Because like. It's so simple but so cutting. What Ludinus is doing has a million more micro-effects than the macro ones we're seeing. It's not just that he wants to kill the gods, it's about the minor (if they can be called that) wreckages he's leaving in his path toward that goal. Broken families. Homes that should be warm and full of life. People who should still be there but are instead lost or dead or subsumed by this goal. There's a world where Imogen got to grown up with a mother. There's a world where Relvin had reason to keep all the kitchen chairs, or maybe even add a few extra. There's a world that could have had less pain in it. And that simple tragedy is so, so cutting. Even if, for some reason, you think the gods deserve to be eaten, do you think Imogen deserved to grow up with family? Do you think Bor'dor deserved better than manipulation and indoctrination in a cult? It's not just the gods being hurt. There are so many minute, human tragedies every day because of this.

sally going from implying that she and percy are unbreakable as long as the have each other ... to implying that he's unbroken by himself. that even if sally's gone, he is still whole and he doesn't have to break just because the storm is pulling them apart..

Thinking about how the most iconic line from Goncharov 1973 is such an Akeshu line "if you loved me, you wouldn't have missed."

It’s so mind boggling how I have to keep on living and doing things as normal whilst a genocide is going on. Like children are being murdered and constantly starving but I have art coursework to hand in next week

I rewatched the end of the Hakaiser arc in Zenkaiger so I could see if it would be a good episode to analyze for my paper and instead I cried a lot, more than when I first watched it, so yeah

so. uh. may or may not have went a bit insane about sakyo and takanosuke again on twitter. gonna copy and paste my rant here because I feel the need to share my love for them at every applicable point
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW SIGNIFICANT IT IS THAT THEIR REAPPEARANCE AFTER SAKYO COMPLETES HIS CHARACTER ARC HAS THEM FINALLY SYNCHROMING AND NOT ONLY THAT BUT BATTLING YOSHIO, WHO THEY THEN BEAT WITH THE POWER OF FUCKING FRIENDSHIP
it is SO important to me that immediately after yoshio shows that he doesn’t fully understand the real significance of synchrome that sakyo is the first one to pipe up and say that takanosuke has place in the battle too and how synchrome is formed from their unbreakable bond
ITS SUCH A PERFECT WAY OF SHOWING THAT SAKYO TRULY HAS DEVELOPED AS A CHARACTER AND REALLY VALUES THE IMPORTANCE OF BONDS BETWEEN BLADERS NOW BUT ALSO DISPLAYING HIM AND TAKA AS EQUALS AND SHOWING THAT THEY BOTH HAVE A GREAT RESPECT AND CARE FOR EACH OTHER
i just. I’m. it’s.
the way takanosuke was constantly chasing after sakyo before, who kept brushing him off and undervaluing him while taka still persisted regardless to then sakyo acknowledging him alongside himself and showing off the closeness of their friendship and bond
IT TOOK THEM SO LONG TO SYNCHROME EVEN THOUGH IT WAS PROPOSED EARLY ON BECAUSE IT ONLY HAPPENED WHEN SAKYO FULLY UNDERSTOOD THE IMPORTANCE OF HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH TAKANOSUKE AND FINALLY REALLY ACKNOWLEDGED HIM
When Sakyo was introduced to synchrome, takanosuke was the person he had his eyes set on to partner with because he saw takanosuke’s strength, they had similar battling styles, and taka was probably gonna be his best bet. he wasn’t really traveling WITH taka so much as he was allowing taka to follow him. He doesn’t acknowledge takanosuke as a potential partner, rather griffin as potentially being of use to him. He’s intrigued by synchrome because of how strong it is (notably the same stance yoshio and Kira had) but doesn’t fully understand the importance of it yet. It’s only when he finally grows and acknowledges his bond with taka that the two finally synchrome AND IT COMES FULL CIRCLE WITH THEM BATTLING YOSHIO AND TEACHING HIM

literally all they need to know is the funny app icons. they dont care about reading. every mobile device has it all laid out for them. they can read the word roblox but they can’t read a word like “mango”.
What really scared me was she said that when she asked a student to write a word on the board, they couldn't?? They didn't know how to write and they didn't know how to spell because autocorrect on a keyboard does it for them. How are they meant to read new words if they don't have the fundamentals of how to form a word

Absolutely batshit of Kripke to make Jo’s character intending her to be John’s kid and then to change his mind last minute and make her relentlessly flirt with Dean once they’re not related. Who does that. Weird sauce in my spn soup. I want to poke Mr. Kripke’s brain and figure out where it’s coming from.

Love the contrast between the Americans’ “Apollo” and the Soviets’ “Sputnik.” You got the Americans naming their rocket after a Greek god trying to communicate the grandness and importance of this rocket. And you got the Soviets naming their rocket “fellow traveler.” Like a friend you go on an  adventure with together. This rocket is our little friend lol

what is with men being mad any time a woman raises her voice where did that even come from. someone posted a video of a small electrical explosion, and the top comment was of course the woman screams. the second comment is women try not to scream challenge, level impossible. i had to go back and watch the video again. there is, somewhat fainty, a little gasp emitted off-camera, more of a yelp than a scream. it is mostly lost in the crack of the explosion. afterwards, you hear her voice, shaken, say, are you okay?
i am helping one of my friends train her voice pitch lower, because she wants to be taken seriously at work. she and i do each other's nails and talk about gender roles; and how - due to our appearance - neither of us have ever been able to be "hysterical" in public. we both appear young and sweet and feminine. she is cisgender, and cannot use her natural voice in her profession because people keep saying she appears to be "vapid". we both try to figure out if our purposeful voice lowering is technically sexist. is it promoting something when you are a victim to it?
a storm almost sends a pole through a car window. in the dashcam, you can hear the woman passenger say her partner's name twice, crying out in alarm. she sounds terrified. in the comments, she is lambasted for her lack of calm. how is that even fucking helping?
in high school, i taught myself to have a lower voice. i had been recorded when i was genuinely (and righteously) upset; and i hated how my voice sounded on the phone speakers when it was played back. i was defending my mom, and my voice cracked with emotion. it meant i was no longer winning the argument: i was just shrieking about it.
girls meet each other after a long summer and let out a little joyful scream. this usually stops around 12-14, because people will not tolerate this display of affection (as it has the effect of being passingly annoying). something about the fact that little girls can't ever even be annoying. we are trained to examine each part of our lives (even joy) for anything that could make us upsetting and disgusting. they act like teenage girls are breaking into houses and shrieking you awake at 3 in the morning. speaking as a public school educator: trust me, it's not that bad, you can just roll your eyes and move on. it does not compare to the ways boys end up being annoying: slurs in graffiti, purposefully mocking your body, following you after you said no. you know, just boy things.
there's another video of a man who is not allowed to yell in the house, so he snaps his fingers when he's excited about soccer. the comments are full of angry men, talking about how their brother is unfairly caged. let him express himself and this is terrible to do to someone. eventually the couple has to address it in a second video: they are married with a newborn baby. he was trying not to wake the infant up. there is no comment on the fact women are not allowed to yell indoors. or the fact that it could have been really alarming or triggering for his wife. sometimes i wonder if straight men even like women, if they even enjoy being in relationships with them.
for the longest time, i hated roller coasters because it always felt inappropriate and uncomfortable for me to scream. one of my friends called me on it, said it was unusual i'm so unwilling. i had to go to my therapist about it. i don't like to scream because i was not raised in a safe situation, and raising my voice would have brought unsafe attention towards me. even when i am supposed to scream, it feels shameful, guilty. i was not treated kindly, so i lack a basic form of self-protection. this is not a natural response. it is not good that in a situation of high adrenaline - i shut up about it.
something very bad is happening, i think. in between all the beauty standards and the stuff i've already discussed - this one feels new and cruel in a way i can't quite express. yes, it's scary and silencing. but there's something about how direct it is - that so many men agree with the sentiment that women should never yell, even in an emergency - it feels different.
is the word shriek gendered automatically? how about shrill or screech? in self defense class, one of the first things they tell you is to yell, as loud and as shrilly as you can. they say it will feel rude. most women will not do this. you need to practice overcoming the social pressure and just scream.
most women do not cry out, even when it's bad. we do not report it. we walk faster. we do not make a scene. what would be the point of doing anything else? no matter what we do, we don't get taken seriously. it is a joke to them. an instagram caption punchline. we have to present ourselves as silent, beautiful, captivating - "valuable."
a woman is outside watching her kids when someone throws a firecracker at them. she screams and runs towards her children. in the comments, grown men flock together in the thousands: god. women are so annoying.

part of my nimona viewing experience. idk why but i got super emotional in the first five minutes.
ID by @peachygos
[ID: A comic juxtaposing screenshots from Nimona 2023 and drawings of a person watching the movie. The first screenshot is Ambrosius's introduction; he grins at the camera as the news anchors introduce him, his name in big print on the screen. The person watching thinks with a bored expression, "Ah. Ok. This guy is gonna be the jackass. Typical golden-boy stuck-up prince that thinks he's better than the underdog. I see where this is going.
The next screenshot is of Ambrosius and Ballister on the platform above the arena, Ambrosius doing his news anchor bit and saying, "Aaand will Ballister be broody on the biggest day of his life?" Ballister laughs at his antics. The person watching now has a small smile, as they think, "Huh! Aw, they're actually nice to each other and are friends! I wasn't expecting that, that's nice-"
The third and final screenshot is a shot from behind of Ballister leaning his head on Ambrosius's shoulder. The caption reads "the knighting ceremony is just moments away." The person watching now has a touched, soft expression, like they're holding back tears. They think "OH." as a partially transparent doodle behind them bends over crying and blubbering, with another doodle showing their heart shot through with an arrow. /end ID]
