I don't actually disagree with any of that, I think I failed to get my point across clearly

I'm not defending people who see being trans as derogatory, that's transmisogynistic, I mean the people who hate the pressure of egg jokes. The expectations that come with it. I really don't think those are the same thing. People are deeper than that. I really hope you understand where I'm coming from here. Honestly, we could just have different ideas of the tone of egg jokes in question in our heads here that's causing the discrepency. I mean the ones that read like "Hah. egg behaviour" and "So how long until her egg cracks". Sometimes it just hits you the wrong way at the wrong time, ok? You don't know what the person might be going through, what thoughts are bugging them the most. This isn't something exclusive to egg jokes at all.

Look, I'm sorry for the trouble but all I'm saying is, I know people, who aren't transmysogynistic, who get uncomfortable from egg jokes for reasons you aren't covering here. I know you're saying this because you care about trans women, but because of what I've seen it feels like we're forgetting to care about others here, and that bothers me a lot.

But this is in a general context, no, I don't know know what the post was originally about, I was trying to cover an issue I know pops up from posts like this, is all. I guess it would have been better suited to it's own post, in hindsight.

Ultimately I just beleive at the end of the day, if someone says please don't, you don't. I don't need them to explain themselves to me.

You can just ignore this post if you still disagree, I'm not forcing, but yeah, that's all I've got to say.

How do you think a Pearl/Skizz team up would be next life series?

So this is absolutely the team up I personally want to see the most (Other than that I want to watch the GGG team up every season but they end up doing that anyways even when they aren’t an official alliance so)

The first thing is that they have two wildly different approaches to the Life Series. Skizz can be pretty reckless, especially once he hits his red life. He tends to be pretty chill on green, but it’s like the second he’s reminded “oh yeah you have limited lives” he starts losing it a little. I hesitate to call anyone ‘bad’ at the Life Series but Skizz… isn’t the best? He doesn’t have the worst track record (AVG placement without the specials is 14th and with is 13th) and he does tend to get at least 1 kill every season, and he has some pretty high kill counts with 5 in LimL and 6 in Wild Life. If we’re judging being good at the Life Series on kills alone, Skizz is actually pretty good at it. If we’re judging it on survival… not so much.

But when I talk about Skizz being reckless, I mean he tends to go into things guns blazing. He tries to invade bases, he goes on rampages, he gets himself into fights with people who are known to be good at PVP, he lost six lives in one episode of Wild Life and four in another. Skizz takes the “killing game” part of the Life Series to be the most important part. He’s willing to risk a lot to get a kill. Safety tends to be something he leaves for his teammates to deal with.

Pearl, despite that fact that most people remember her moments of violence best, takes the survival part of the Life Series the most seriously. When she says her goal is to get to the end, she doesn’t mean win, she means literally survive until the end. It’s why she has the second highest average placement (4th) if we include the specials and the highest average placement (3rd) if we don’t. Her lowest placement in a regular series is 5th, and she self admittedly didn’t heal up before that battle because she didn’t care about getting any further than that since Impulse, who she was trying to get a win for, was dead.

Unlike Skizz, Pearl actually tends to fall apart when she gets into too much direct conflict. She’s at her best strategically when she puts her head down and focuses on just living. Her kills tend to be either boogeyman kills, revenge kills, or defensive kills (ie someone is trying to invade her base or is attacking her or an ally first). Notable exception, of course, is her Murder Camel rampage. Her lowest kill count in a series is 2 in WL, and her highest is 5 in LL and LimL.

There’s also the question of the narratives that tend to play out for both of them, intentional or not. Skizz, like I said above, starts optimistic and determined but once he starts losing lives that determination turns into reckless desperation. He really wants to win. He loves his friends, he wants to protect them which is also part of why he gets to aggressive. He lays down his life for Etho so no one else can get his time. He knows he’s not great at the game so he wants to go out in a blaze of glory when he does inevitably go out. He relishes in opportunities to get some blood on his hands, especially on red, because to him that’s what the games are all about, succumbing to the most bloodthirsty parts of yourself while surrounded by other people doing the same. Skizz is also very focused on connection! He’s a loyal ally, he sticks by his day ones, he did his whole affirmation thing in LimL even for people he wasn’t allied with. He just tends to lead with his heart rather than his head.

Pearl’s ongoing narrative since DL is loneliness. She’s got the Widow’s Curse bad. The only allies she hasn’t outlived are Scar in SL who she made an honorary Mounder last second after her three original allies were dead, and Cleo in WL who died like a minute after her and is her only day 1 ally since LL to outlive her (which didn’t really help emotionally as she had promised to get Impulse a win, as she, Scott, and Cleo were already winners). No matter what, Pearl tends to find herself alone and she can never fulfill her promise to BigB/Mumbo/Bdubs/Joel/Impulse to get them a win. I would argue it really started with her not being able to keep the original Tilly alive and the second Tilly dying in battle before the end too. She thought she could get Tilly to the end and she couldn’t and she hasn’t been able to get anyone to the end except herself since.

What I’m trying to say with all of this is that Skizz and Pearl’s play styles are kind of opposite but in a way I think would complement each other because both of them have one big thing in common: loyalty. They both want connection and friendship badly in the games and are, at times, willing to risk other things for it. The issue would be that Skizz is willing to risk his life to kill and Pearl is willing to miss a kill to get her allies to live. Strategically, I can see Pearl putting a lot of effort into trying to make a safe base (like her original two towers) only for Skizz to not be paying attention while trying to kill someone and slip from one of her high walls. I can see Skizz trying to poke the chaotic red life out of Pearl when a major conflict is happening because it would be easy kills while people are distracted or just because it would be fun, only for her to react like she did when the wither and warden fight happened in Secret Life and be trying to get all her allies into a safe place to hide, which he wouldn’t want to do.

And lastly, the way Pearl and Skizz interact in general is so special To Me. Skizz is, of course, a pretty unserious and goofy guy, but he tries to lock in when he’s a red life. Pearl has a very unique way of breaking him when he’s locked in. I can only imagine him trying to go all kill mode and her just saying something that makes him burst out laughing. And it would be bit city, which I always love. However, I think ultimately it would probably end the same way both of their series tend to end. Skizz would go out guns blazing and Pearl would be left without her ally. And I am at heart and angst gremlin who never wants my favorite to be happy/lh.

It would have added SUCH an extra layer of tension. In theory, it'd likely be a case of mutation to adapt vs what their original human bodies were capable of BEFORE the dark matter hit. I like to think Barry is SUCH an extreme case since we're not JUST dealing with the dark matter from the particle accelerator but that it opened him up the Speed Force, which is a giant load on its own. But I don't think it's all just "we get hungrier". Human bodies adapt in so many damned ways, be it to external environmental pressures (hello, evolution, with different skin tones and nose shapes depending on the region and temperature/climate, etc!) to available resources over time. Specifically, metahumans have such very different powers!

So, because my brain's been on my fix-it-ish kinda AU this whole time, I may be misrembering facts/reasons from the show, but the way I see it, there's some kind of spectrum. Barry's in the.... I forgot how many tacos Cisco originally said the equivalent of his metabolism was... because of the level of physically taxing activity running takes--and they later learn the Speed Force thing. Hartley, if we scanned him, likely has a mutated pair of ears and voice box, which would account for him originally having those... implants, if I recall right. So between the mutation and the general low-key needs of that ability, Hart's biggest issue isn't his metabolism, but a conscious effort not to put himself in loud places or to learn some kinda muffling technique (or, well, make special earphones for renovation/construction areas). The sonic screaming may not be all THAT taxing to him unless he decided to make himself FLY for giant distances, and then, he does have those gloves that lessen the physical taxing load. I headcannon he drinks tea now, rather than coffee, to keep his sensitive nervous system calm. Shawna's teleporting, Cisco's vibing/breacher abilities, and Cecile's empathy (I know she gets added powers later, but I'm sticking with what I actually know) feel like they're sort of on a scale. Cecile's pretty passive, so if we only take her empathy into account, the woman's biggest issue is headache control if she's around too many high-strung people. Oh, the painkillers!!! So, yeah, an elevated stress management thing. A scan prolly will show something mutated in the workings of her brain. Which would be similar to Bivolo's, really, but his is more elevated because he then manipulates emotional regulation in other people itself.n Shawna's molecular structure as whole would have been mutated to allow her to deconstruct and rebuild based on a location she SAW, so it's partly that she just adapted to that being normal and then it gets extra taxing if, say, she has to teleport several times in a row or do it over... a mile? More? Whatever the range of her spyglass is. Then she's really burning calories. Cisco.... hoboy. I think his caloric intake gets fucked more by the vibe blasts than the breach opening and vibing. Again, like Cecile, I think something in breachers/vibers' brains gets mutated to make them sensitive to the multiverse. Given how there were specific areas in the city where the breaches were opened because of that wormhole at the end of S1, it may be a feature of the multiverse, hence it may be harder or easier to open a breach depending on where he is/plans to go. Then there's HOLDING those breaches open for extended periods and vibe blasting. Those would be cray taxing. Mark Mardon and Caitlin influencing the physical world would have a different energy output from, say, Tony's skin-to-metal thing and Farooq Gibran's electricity. We do know Farooq ended up requiring a special energy source, electricity over food, and.... well, that's kinda along the lines of Al Rothstein too. I could go oooooooon and on with different metas. XDDD And that is not even dipping my toes into the male vs female differences in presentation/adaptation of powers because biologically male and female bodies are actually different and our collective medical data is still heavily influenced by research on biological male bodies, applied to female ones, and that is why medical advice doesn't work for women the same way or at the same level of efficacy. Nora and Jesse Quick would have quirks/added changes and issues Barry and Wally don't, as speedsters, the same way Gypsy and Cisco would have divergences and Killer Frost/Caitlin would from, say, a cold-meta version of Leonard Snart, a la New 52 comics.

After saying all that, honestly, more than "allied with Team Flash or the Rogues for changing economic situation reasons" that are skewed towards higher grocery/food needs, they CANNOT go to the doctors normally. MRIs, EEGs, even sensitivity to getting touched/blood taken... being meta changes that. They need alliances/networks of other metas or meta-comprehending people BECAUSE of their new physiologies.

And of course, this is where ARGUS/military, etc... intervention becomes a thing... The Flash and Arrow briefly touch on government cooperation/clashing and Supergirl had a whole monitoring system that could have been waaaaaay scarier if they weren't the "good guys".

Okay, that got WAY long for first thoughts in a day. I clearly spend too much time thinking about metahuman abilities and worldbuilding.

i know it was his show and all but it's sooo boring that the flash gave us all this info about how barry's powers affect his biology and yet did not do a single thing for the other metas outside of the cool shit they can do with their powers, so i've decided it's my new headcanon that in contrast with barry, who has to eat significantly more to compensate for all the energy he burns while running, caitlin has an incredibly slow metabolism due to her low body temperature. she often forgets to eat because of this, and instead of sleeping, she goes into a torpor-like state to conserve energy. bonus points if she does it with her eyes open because it's creepier and therefore sick as fuck. imagine cisco walking into the cortex and the motion detector lights are off so he assumes he's alone, until the lights come on and caitlin is sat at her desk, staring straight and unblinkingly ahead like a doll in a horror movie, with an almost undetectably slow pulse, pale and unresponsive as a corpse, and----cisco, why are you screaming, she's fine

What makes White Collar hold up so much better than other police procedurals:

It was part of the "pretty happy shows with gorgeous ensemble casts and a charismatic weird guy" USA network era but it somehow used that to be about stuff that is so REAL

What is justice? Is our system fair? Can you be a criminal and still be a good man? Can you be a good man and still work for the system?

The bad guys are rich assholes, and people defrauding families out of their homes, and unethical pharmaceutical companies. People manipulating energy supply out of greed resulting in blackouts which are showing *harming a dog,* aka how to show something is monstrous in a pg show written by a white person. Class exists in this universe in more ways than having a cardboard concept of a "rich guy."

The bad guys include police, FBI agents, prison staff, judges, senators. Those people cause real harm, obstruct justice, plant evidence, kill people. It's shown how the system protects them and harms regular people.

The harm that causes the main character to go from wanting to be part of the system, to subverting and working against it, is him finding out about an act of police corruption, brutality, and murder--and what's more, that if he became a cop, that's what he could become.

The harm that causes the main character to be outside the white picket fence is that the system failed his family after that act. What happened to Neal's mom? Why did nobody besides Helen step in? They had to check in with US Marshals, did nobody notice this kid didn't have an adult fit to parent?

So Neal turns to found family. And let's be real, heavily polyamory coded found family at that. But he keeps chasing the idea of a girl who will be everything. But he's got all this attachment trauma so he never does. But because found family is real family, even the people who freaking played the characters are still connected a decade later

"I was stolen by the reds once, but my friends rescued me and a Medic fixed me. I'm not entirely sure how I was fixed, but I think my disc was rewired." There maybe was documentation of the process on her disc and Call might be able to see what was different between hers and regular discs.

Ark tilted her head as she thought that over, "Huh, yeah, I could see that working. Flood the Occupation out and just leave the original program behind."

Open RP - Rainbow Falls

After causing quite a bit of trouble for the Occupation, Ark decided that it was best for her to lay low for a while.

The area around Bostrum seemed like a good choice. The Colony had been infected and devastated, but the Crystal Conduit was far enough away that it likely was spared from the Virus' wrath.

The Conduit was full of energy and crystals, and also Gridbugs. But, she hadn't seen a swarm of them on her one previous visit, just a few here and there. The danger added to the relative safety of it, as most programs wouldn't venture out there.

The roads on the way to and from Bostrum were intact close to Tron City, but the further and further they got from the living City, the more damaged they became.

Ark's trek was slowed as she navigated the shattered roads, occasionally making a small detour into the Outlands to dodge debris.

Upon reaching Bostrum, she took a quick break on the outskirts to rest and replenish from the plentiful energyfalls that surrounded the former Colony. The Conduit was still further ahead.

Ark's travels took her through caves and canyons and the more crystals she saw, the closer she got to her destination.

Crystals dotted the rocky landscape as she compressed her light cycle into its baton and continued by foot.

It had been many cycles since she had been here and the crystals had grown and shifted around the area, so there were new paths she hadn't seen before.

One such winding path took her down far below the main level of the Conduit.

There, she was greeted by an underground energy pool encased in a cavern full of blue energy crystals.

The sight was beautiful, and she slipped into the shimmering energy to float along and rest.

As she floated, she drifted from cave to cave, each one containing crystals of a different color that imposed their wavelengths upon the energy below - and Ark and her circuits.

The caves made a ring around one in the middle, after doing a full circuit around, she slowly swam into the middle chamber to observe it.

There, the cavern was full of crystals of every size and color, but most impressive was the energyfall that flowed down one of the cave walls.

Surrounding the energyfall itself were the many colors of crystals, spiraling up it in a wonderous play of light.

The result was absolutely breathtaking.

Ark had heard that the Crystal Conduit contained the source of energy for all the falls around the Colony, and this astounding place felt like it should be that source itself.

After taking in the sights, she spent her time floating and swimming through the caverns of colorful lights.

Fortunately, there were rocky landings in all of the chambers, allowing her to climb up out of the energy and sit as long as she liked.

As far as places to hide and stay for a while, this one was among the best she could imagine.

megatron: origins is a whole-comic reference to the UK miners' strikes. it's by a british writer who specifically said in an interview it was based on that. it's not about communism, but british socialism in the 80s, which isn't exactly the same thing. (it is still pretty poorly done, but for different reasons.)

Thank you for the clarification! While I would argue that the actual presentation does lean more toward communism than socialism, in that Megatron's speech seems to imply (albeit vaguely) some sort of dictatorship of the proletariat, and more clearly, the seizing of power through radical revolution, it's good to know what the author's original intentions were. I'm interested in looking into the historical event that inspired it.

Side note, I know they weren't written by the same authors but in MTMTE JRo did go the extra mile with the communism references by having Nightbeat call 'Towards Peace' a Decepticon manifesto and Quark worrying about what would happen when the manual classes take over.

I had a dream where there was a murder mystery and some of the suspects were Obama, the couple from Ruthless People, Scott Bakula [like, present day, not QL era], three people from my middle school, and like half my immediate family, and upon getting an ending I didn't like [Scott was the killer] I woke up, remembered 90% of the dream including a final chase sequence, decided that ending SUCKED and I didn't wanna be awake yet, fell RIGHT back asleep, and returned right back to my fuckin dream and got a different ending that I now cannot remember [it wasn't any of the people I listed, but I also can't really remember who it was? It was a guy, and he was affluent, but I dont remember rip]
