At its peak, the Hallmark Hate Club had thrived. Seven years in though? Membership was thin on the ground.

It was easy to set up back then, December in Rockport was characterised by the inability to move without stumbling into busy professionals from Neverwinter looking for lumberjacks and bakers to save them from burnout. It was understanding that people were peeved to find the streets littered with big city adults with big city jobs who didn’t understand small town charm. Taako, and Lup hated it. Passionately. Magnus and Sloane used to hate it too… December was already busy, what with trying to get last minute orders together; baking endless sugar cookies; brewing endless cups of cocoa for cold nosed ice skaters who were giggly and love drunk; and definitely absolutely positively not laundering any money. It sucked, it sucked hard.

Taako and Lup were the founding members, Magnus joined soon after, and Sloane was a shoo in when she explained to Taako that she’d need to set up a regular cookie order with him because of the amount of lawyers who had suddenly started hanging around her cocoa stand (which definitely wasn’t a front for anything illegal, she just didn’t want a load of lawyers in her hair all the time - that was perfectly reasonable) relentlessly ordering things.

They’d had fifteen in their heyday and it was great, they supported each other whenever someone from the business factory skidded adorkably on their floors, or when they had to refuse to take anyone from out of town anywhere near an ice rink. It worked too. They watched horror movies and ate anti-romance snacks (Taako developed a whole menu), and bitched about how gullible everyone else was. And then it happened.

Or, more specifically, Julia happened.

They didn’t notice at first, they never did. That was a pattern. He mentioned someone he’d met at work, someone who’d come to his ancestral christmas tree farm who wasn’t like the other city slickers. She was interested in wood composition because of her research, she had career aspirations and loved her job and wasn’t stressed at all. They thought he was safe. He wasn’t. Magnus mentioned that it was refreshing to have someone come through town who wasn’t aggressively looking for romance. She’d told him that she didn’t buy into all that nonsense. They’d all found it refreshing too. Until it wasn’t. Until he started missing Hate Club nights. Until he told them she was different in a new way, in a lovesick way, in exactly the way they were all used to hearing from the people who got got. And sure, Julia had moved here but kept her job, she went back on research projects but largely worked from home. And sure, Taako liked her, thought she was great in fact. But none of that changed anything. None of that altered the fact that Magnus betrayed them.

Sloane went last year.

Lup said she didn’t blame her, that it could happen to anyone, but Taako wasn’t convinced. He’d seen the beginnings of it. She could have avoided it. Sloane handed over a cocoa to one of the many interchangeable lawyers circling her stand, he turned too fast - enraptured by the sound of jingle bells on one of the sleigh rides shooting about town and making the roads dangerous (no one knew where the fuck the things came from. He’d brought it up at town meetings and there were no permits, no permissions, and no one recognised the drivers, but the ‘Garfield’s showed up every year to clog up the roads and leave horse shit everywhere.) The cocoa spilled all over Hurley. A complete stranger. Someone Sloane had absolutely no need to concern herself with. Instead, she offered her a towel. That was it.

Taako thought it was done once Hurley mentioned that she was chief of police in Goldcliff. Double done once she started talking about feeling burnt out. Taako tried valiantly to derail things while he finished delivering and racking the cookies for Sloane each day and she ignored him. Just like Magnus had ignored him. Sloane started to just be around less, and less, and less again, until they realised that she hadn’t come to a meeting in six weeks. Then they knew. They got married in Spring. Taako made the cake. It had ten layers. It was fucking delicious.

And now, so what if there were only three of them left? So what if Johnann hadn’t been to a meeting in weeks? It probably didn’t mean anything. It didn’t mean he’d been got.

Lup sighs heavily and leans against him. "It got Johann." She turns her phone to Taako.

“Wait, what? Avi’s famous? Avi’s famous famous??? Fuck. How did we not notice?”

“It says here that he specifically didn’t tell anyone because he wanted to stay “low key” while he was in town.” Lup points to the line in the article.

Taako’s wants desperately to bite something. Hard. “Uh huh.”

“But then he saw Johann playing at the coffee shop open mic.”

“Of course he did.”

“And now they’re married and living in his penthouse apartment and Johann’s got a sell out world tour booked in.”

“It’s only been two weeks!”

Lup shrugs. “You know how it goes.”

“He didn’t even invite us to the wedding!”

“It says here they kept it small.” Lup points to the caption underneath a photo of Johann and Avi on a beach looking disgustingly happy.

“Sometimes I think this place is cursed.”

“I think they enjoy it, Taako. They seem happy.”

“Well Taako certainly doesn’t, and neither do you, right?”

“Right.” Says Lup. “It’s gross.”

Taako puts his serious face on. “This year we need to be extra careful, LuLu. We’re the only ones left.”

“Of course, we’ll be on top of it. We know the signs. No one’s coming for the Tacco twins.”

“Hey now, that’s not fair, Taako’s excellent with his ha…”

“No! Gross! Bad! You will not finish that sentence.” Lup nudges Taako hard with her elbow.

Taako snorts out a laugh and shoves her sideways. “Not getting got pact?” He offers out a crooked little finger for the traditional deal.

“Not getting got.” Lup sits up and hooks her finger round his.

“One! Two! Three! No romance!"

The Naraj World building I have so far for the Feyd Rautha fic that is hopefully coming out soon.

Below the cut in case it gets long as I add to it.

• an ice planet with a short warm season (though one year on Naraj resemble two of Earths)

• the coldest part of the year, while still livable with the aid of their technology, is spent locked indoors, using saved up resources so to not risk the harsh weather

• "the Festival of Darkness, celebrating the 23 days of the eternal darkness and coldest time of the year. It's also the very brief season that glow moss, one of Naraj's most expensive trades, is in full bloom, bright blue spores floating through the air once they start to wilt

• the other, much larger planets in the solar system all continuously block out the sun for those days

• Prized furs are gathered at this time by hunters, the nocturnal animals highly active during this time. Predatory animals don't sleep during the three weeks, making their fur much easier to obtain than during the rest of the year.

• the mainland is high above sea level, which is what makes it so cold. That means that the oceans don't ever freeze over. During the endless night, all common families send out at least one able bodied person out on the ships for the duration, catching all kinds of sea life since the nets are much harder to see in the darkness.

• The most common wild animal by the manor (located at the top of a hill and surrounded by forest) is a bird that looks like a shoebill stork but bigger (think terror birds). They have feathers and fur. VERY good swimmers (webbed feet with massive talons) but cannot fly at all.

• the architecture is similar to Viking / old Nordic

• there are underground communities found throughout most cave systems, all of which connect to a surface town. Those living underground tend to be miners, weapon makers, and chemists. All water use by people on the surface come from the underground communities, as they are closest to the water/ and all factories/cleaning facilities are built in the caves

• the homeless population is well looked after, with many halls scattered through all towns and cities to house the less fortunate. There are rooms dedicated for families while there are dorm like accommodations for each sex.

• orphans are few and far between as adoption is fairly high on Naraj, though most orphanages can be found in the cave towns/cities.

• there are very few settlements at ocean level, as the land there isn't very flat, and is quite marshy in places. The abundance of moss growth is an irritant for most people, more common than lactose intolerance

THE DATES SO FAR:

Travel to Costa Brava in Spain and explore the historical Tossa de Mar before having dinner aboard a catamaran ride around the coast at sunset.

A day in Heraklion, Crete, to explore the beaches, local architecture, and museums.

A visit to San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily, to embrace the beautiful beaches. An afternoon spent climbing the face of Monte Monaco, before winding down with a relaxing dinner in the town, with plenty of local wine to share.

Head to Tromsø, Norway, to go ice swimming in the Norwegian Sea. Warm up in a wood fire sauna, before heading into the city for a cosy dinner, and a night of great cocktails at the Magic Ice Bar.

Edinburgh, Scotland. A trip to the Camera Obscura and World of Illusions, filled with optical wonders and playful illusions, followed by a walking tour to the historic Edinburgh Castle. The trip will conclude with a night in a cosy log cabin surrounded by the beauty of the Scottish landscape.

A trip to Amsterdam to visit the art museums on the Museumplein, followed by dinner and live music.

A night out in Moscow. Italian food and French Champagne at Mario's, followed by a ballet at the Bolshoi Theatre. Finish things off with a late-night stroll to St. Basil's to take in the architectural beauty of the city.

Brunch date along the beaches of Tenerife, before joining the festivities of Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

A weekend getaway to the small island of Malta, where they can submerge themselves in the culture, food, and scenery, far away from the busy life of London and all its drama.

An apartment in Central Paris, overlooking the Eiffel Tower, with prosecco upon arrival. A day of leisure, followed by dinner at the Sphére, located on Rue La Boétie.

Spend some time exploring Wine Factory N1 in Tbilisi. After plenty of wine tasting and bar hopping, an evening dining at the opulent Biltmore Hotel awaits; beautiful views over the city as the perfect accompaniment.

A pamper filled day at the luxurious Blue Lagoon Spa in Iceland, before toning it down with a beer and brewery crawl through the country's capital. End the night camping in one of Reykjavik's Geodomes.

The night consists of great food and live music. A chance to dress up and step into another world. Dinner at the Story Restaurant in London, followed by Abel Selaocoe and Britten Sinfonia at the Barbican Centre.

A trip to New York to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Empire State Building, Central Park, and do a food tour of the city together.

Private Island Living off the coast of Greece. A small Island villa just for two. Peace, quiet, and no nosey neighbours.

ADDED THURSDAY:

Enjoy a long-weekend away to Ibiza where you will experience both sides of the Island; nights out in the best clubs with the greatest DJs and the nights in watching sunsets by the beach, most luxurious dinners. A date with the best of both worlds.

Get tipsy together on a weekend away at Amalfi Coast. Stay in five-star Hotel Santa Caterina, with its far-reaching views along the coast, a luxurious beach club and two restaurants, for a four-day ‘Luxury Amalfi Coast Wine Experience’.

Arrive in San Sebastián just when the locals get started for the night, around 9pm. Choose from a number of Michelin star restaurants and spend the rest of the night drinking and enjoying the company. Wake up the next day for a walk along the golden beaches and explore more of the food the city has to offer.

Take a hike around the Isle of Skye and maybe a dip in the small water ways if you're brave enough. See the beauty that Scotland has to offer. The night will end at a cottage for 2 with a chef catered meal and an overnight stay.

During the day, enjoy a walking tour of Haga Old Town in Gothenburg, Sweden and a small boat tour of some of the archipelago. End the night with dinner at family owned Familjen where the mood is cosy and the food is all local.

A long weekend in Monaco. Enjoy the comfort of the iconic Café de Paris, spending the afternoon pampered in its spa before heading to an opera. Michelin restaurants, beach sunsets, and ultimate luxury mark a perfect weekend.

Austria. Visit the lakeside alpine village of Hallstatt in the Alps and enjoy a picnic lunch via boat ride. Attend an Austrian Apple Strudel Cooking Class in the afternoon before venturing to Salzburg to tour Hohensalzburg Fortress. Dine at the restaurant atop and attend a night-time concert there while taking in the balcony view of the historic town of Salzach below, including the river and mountains.

A weekend in Positano, along Italy's soaring Amalfi Coast. This includes a private boat tour to the island of Capri.

Sunset watching on a private yacht off the Greek Islands in quiet and private location, followed by luxurious but relaxed dinner and champagne. (edited to be in-keeping with geographical constrictions. Send a follow up date acknowledging this if you wish to change it. ♥)

Jetset to Finland, spend the morning exploring the snowy forest on horseback, try your hand at ice fishing before enjoying lunch prepared over an open fire. The Lexicon

Since @littlewestern and I are partners in trainrot in general and in authorship in particular, we have developed a lexicon of terms to encompass concepts that occur frequently in Thomas the Tank Engine so's to make discussion of those things quicker. Thought it'd be fun to show you some of them.

Sodor Karma

Everyone probably uses this one or something like it. On Sodor, if you talk shit, you get hit within six business hours and then literally everyone you know will hear about it, if they didn't see it firsthand. And they will never forget it happened either. They'll bring it back up at every opportunity.

Killed Summarily

The kind of hypothetical accidents that never seem to happen on Sodor, where one or both parties would be absolutely demolished beyond repair. Originally arose from the idea that they coulda added Henry to the clusterfuck in "Duck in the Water" since he's green too, except that he would have absolutely killed all of the rest of them going at missed signal speed. Summarily. "Thankfully, no one was hurt" prevents these kinds of accidents.

9/11 Flight Path

Speaking of Henry, when an engine is on an unavoidable collision course with disaster we call it the 9/11 Flight Path, owing to this diagram in Thomas the Tank Engine Owners' Workshop Manual that looks like every 9/11 diagram complete with crash burst graphic.

It's Fkn Cocoa Time

But we're not concerned with the engine on his 9/11 Flight Path to kill us summarily because it's fkn cocoa time.

When you've eaten shit or are about to, you can count on a driver, a fireman, and maybe a guard somewhere to be enjoying hot cocoa, completely unbothered with your plight.

Fucking Cunt Dork

This is from the Carlin Comp, in a clip edited from Thomas Goes Fishing. When an engine starts getting all obsessive and distracted over some shit what engines ought not be caring about (fishing, winning medals, rainbows, statues of oneself, seeing golden eagles, wearing costumes, chasing shooting stars, finding pirate treasure (twice), being a hero, finding The Man in the Hills, getting one's picture taken, etc), he's become a fucking cunt dork.

While in practice, we do use this pretty loosely for anytime an engine becomes obsessive to the point of not being Useful, strictly speaking, being a fucking cunt dork is specifically for when the subject of that obsession is something engines shouldn't be concerned with. For example, Duck is not being a fucking cunt dork about the Great Western Way, but he was a fucking cunt dork about the regatta.

Cotton Candy Economy

Facetious term for the apparent shift in Sodor's economy from agricultural/fishing exports to tourism. We actually find this idea fascinating, that Sodor started out struggling to even get a railway running to becoming the steam engine mecca of the world such that its economy depends on this mismatched fleet of engines. Nonetheless, this change is marked by an increase in festivals, fun fairs, carnivals, magic shows, circuses, toy factories, and ice cream deliveries.

Holiday Friends

When engines are bein' extra friendly with each other in a way entirely too saccharine for the NWR. Maybe in a way bordering on festive. When you're friendsing with your friends in the cotton candy economy.

Dignance Meeting

The opposite of an indignation meeting. Shit's goin' good and we're meeting to discuss it.

Unincorporated Sodor

Misty Island, where they keep all the titty bars and laundromats.

Cosa Nostra

Oliver's obviously willing to break the rules if his survival depends on it. While he's known around the railway for having ripped that mouthy car in half, it was actually Toad who thought the plan up. Even Duck's prepared to crush you under his wheels if you fuck with his passengers.

"There's only two ways to do this: the Great Western Way or the wrong way" is not advice. It's a warning. Cosa nostra.

More Regulator

Let's not leave Donald and Douglas out of the Little Western mafia though. This YouTube comment on TheUnluckyTug's Sodor's Finest video on Duck been living on in our vernacular ever since we laid eyes on it.

"But the Little Western is the kind of ride-or-die energy that you only get by taking four of probably the biggest shit-stirrers on the entire island, cramming them into a branch line together, and then rather than killing each other they save one another's lives. Originated for use about Tug and his since reformed Duck disappreciatin' ways. Now we usually use it in reference to Rev. Awdry whenever we decide to make a decision that contradicts his word on the matter.

Mostly this attitude stems from that infamous interview where he complains about "Henry's Forest", saying "What does an engine care for scenery?" As if he did not write a story in which Thomas was being a fucking cunt dork about fishing. Or another in which Percy was being a fucking cunt dork about scarves. You set the precedent, my man! Too, Henry caring about trees, I would argue, is not fucking cunt dorkery since one of the few ways in which engines have to interact with their world besides tracing 9/11 flight paths into it is looking at it.

Also that he was getting so uppity about the sanctity of his stories compared to the new ones that were being written for the show, as if he didn't only take actual trainecdotes and put his characters over top of them. Not discounting the skill involved in turning a train accident into a narrative, but he was not exactly coming up with scenarios on his own. That's why there's only one Culdee Fell book. The Snowdon Railway hasn't had enough incidents for any more.

Anyway, point is, sometimes we disregard whatever additional info he gave in The Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways because he was very strictly 1-to-1 about it and did not consider anything beyond whether thems the facts, ma'am. But it's a better story if there's only one Truck instead of the two the Snowdon Railway has or if Godred languishes in the Shed for a few years rather than being scrapped immediately.

After all, what does he know? He only wrote the books.

Here it is! My guide to how the weather and how the weather factory works all in a cute little powerpoint!! Finally over a week of obsessive research, script writing and powerpoint panel creation has lead to this masterpiece!

Obviously I am just a fan making up some stuff so if any of you guys disagree with how I head-cannoned the weather please feel free to ignore this. If you wanna take this and use it for your own little ponysona's feel free to do so! Literally the reason why I made this, so that at least we as fans can have one piece of information to point too if ever we need to explain how the weather works in MLP.

Also I did cut some stuff from this, mostly fake seasonal transitional holidays that I made up to help fill in the gap for like spring to summer and summer to fall. since all we ever see in the show is winter wrap up and the running of the leaves. So I'm gonna put that info on the bottom of this cut so you can read that if you want. It is optional!

Winter Wrap Up

The Holiday that kicks off the start of a new year! This is one most ponies enjoy because it comes after a long cold season. It is also one where ponies exercise teamwork with one another as ponies split off into teams to help clear away the snow and get things ready for spring. While the teams and methods of clearing the snow are different depending on the city and the pony population. Generally, the teams are split into three categories. Weather Team, Animal Team and the Plant Team.

Weather Team: The Weather Team are the ones who are mainly in control of clearing away the snow and helping the ice melt, as well as clearing the clouds to get the sunlight to warm the earth.

Animal Team: They help with waking up any hibernating animal as well as help guide in birds from the south and building them new nests to use.

Plat Team: Are also responsible for clearing the snow as well as planting new crops to help rejuvenate the landscape.

Celestial Summer Celebration

This Holiday celebration marks the beginning of the summer season! This holiday does not require much preparation on the average pony’s part as it is mostly a celebration to share with friends and family.

Celestia’s Longest Day: Our Princess Celestia brings the sun out earlier in the morning than normal and the ponies in Equestria celebrate the longest day of the year. Ponies spend most of this day outside, swimming, grilling foods, having picnics, and enjoying the sun as it warms up the earth.

Releasing of the Fireflies: This part of the celebration is done as the sun finally sets. That is when ponies release the fireflies, who had been previously sleeping through the cooler spring air, out into the warm summer skies. This is a event celebrated with family and friends as well, though someponies think of it as an unofficial romantic celebration as couples go off to watch the fireflies in private.

Rainbow Leaves Festival

            The most colorful of holidays celebrates the beginning of fall as we encourage the leaves to change colors through song and dance as ponies often host colorful costume contests. This is also a time for feasts and other fun activities as ponies come together to share in the bounty that summer gave us. As well as helping our animal friends prepare for winter.

Animal Migrations: This is the time of year most birds start to go back to the south for the winter. Most ponies assist with this by setting up bird feeders in trees, meant to supply birds with all the food they’ll need to make the long trip over. We also leave out feeders for our animal friends who are starting to get ready for hibernation.

Changing of the Leaves: This is the main event of the festival; ponies will gather together wearing colorful dresses and suits in the appropriate fall colors and they will dance and sing songs. From formal fall balls to country square dances there is no wrong way to celebrate this festival. This is a time to come together and dance and sing and make merry. The harmonic energy from the celebrations helps to turn the leaves from green to their colorful oranges, red, browns, yellow and purples. The festival will end with a big feast as ponies enjoy the last summer crops left from the previous season, everypony making colorful dishes with the available ingredients.

Running of the Leaves

            The Running of the Leaves is a smaller celebration but one that ponies still enjoy as ponies love to race one another through the forests of Equestria. The combined force of all the ponies racing allows for the leaves to fall from the trees and allows for the transition of winter to begin. This celebration also ends in a large community feast.

Races and other Competitions: Every community and city have their own local races so as the cover as much land as they can. Races usually start earlier in the day when it’s cooler. Not only are there races, but other competitions like to be hosted on this day as well. Like Pie eating contests, tug of war, bobbing for apples, potato sack races, and scarecrow making contests. It’s a time for fun and games and face painting as ponies celebrate the end of fall.

Harvest Feast: Much like the Rainbow Leaves Festival there is also a feast at the end of the day. But this one is usually much larger than the previous celebration. Ponies go all out as they make mash potatoes and pies and other delectable treats as everyone gives thanks to the harvests they produced during the fall. It’s also a time for family and friends to catch up and share their plans for the coming winter season.

Keith Richards pictured with a ‘59 Les Paul that he sold to Mick Taylor when Taylor was playing with John Mayall. The guitar rejoined the Stones with Taylor in 1969.

According to information provided by high-end guitar brokerage Richard Henry, the “Keith Burst” is a ’59 Les Paul that first arrived at Farmers Music Store in Luton, England, in ’61, and was played for a time by John Bowen of Mike Dean & The Kingsmen. Bowen had a Bigsby added to the guitar at Selmer’s Music in London, before trading it in there in late ’62. A young Keith Richards, who purchased the Les Paul with Bigsby, occasionally visited a regular haunt of musicians on the booming London scene of the day, Selmer’s. (It’s worth noting that both Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac and Jeff Beck of The Yardbirds also acquired used ’59 Les Pauls at Selmer’s, and several other acquisitions logged in the history of rock also took place in this popular west-end shop.)

Throughout the early days of the Stones, the Les Paul was one of Richards’s most prominent guitars. The Best-known photos of the era show him playing it on a Ready Steady Go! TV-show performance in Britain in ’64, and he also played it on a tour of the US that same year, when it popped up during the Stones’s performance on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Early Rolling Stones hits purportedly recorded with the Les Paul include “Satisfaction,” “Get Off My Cloud,” “Let’s Spend the Night Together,” and “Little Red Rooster.” As seen in color photos from the time, just five years after it left the factory it was already faded to a deep amber burst with a little iced-tea shading around the body edges. While still in Richards’s possession, the Bigsby ’Burst was also purportedly loaned to Jimmy Page for some studio sessions, and was then loaned to Eric Clapton for use with Cream at the ’66 Windsor Jazz & Blues Festival. - Gibson
