But nobody talking about how Cecil was also the catalyst for anti-Skinny White Guy in a Suit!

By the time WTNV and Cecil rolled around in 2014 people were sick of skinny white guys in suits!!! They wanted something different! and it sparked a lot of talk around the default white depictions of characters who didn't have canon designs.

There's this image by zenamiarts that depicts a lot of the popular human Cecil designs that started popping up as a result. You started seeing Cecil with long braided hair!! Cecil with a walking stick and chronic pain! There was Cecil who was a just giant floating eyeball. Cecil who could change his entire appearance at a whim. A very popular ask blog where Cecil was a Silkie Chicken. (Newer more modern designs also showcase the eccentric fashion Cecil is now known to wear.)

i mean Fuck. Cecil Palmer was the first male character I saw drawn in a skirt!! he was the first character I saw drawn as gender nonconforming and he got treated and drawn like it was a normal thing and i will never forget that.

was it the perfect depiction of diversity? nah. & it sadly seems like a lot of the surviving artwork of Cecil from 2013-2016 is 'Skinny White Guy in a Suit'. (the 2018 tumblr exodus might have something to do with that :( )

But!!! Cecil really did open the door for future audio drama character designs. (looking at u mr. jonathan the magnus archives)

I have a sugestion for FIA how to make F1 weekends more interesting. And it's not more races, sprint races or whatever. Do a Legacy Race. Put exF1 drivers in current cars and make them race. Put Vettel in this year Red Bull, put Kubica in Ferrari, Button in Mclaren, Kobayashi in Sauber, Rosberg in Mercedes. That's the race I want to see. Like once a year special weekend. It would be more popular than actual championship

possibly controversial opinion but people who think the sum total of superman’s personality can be distilled down to “he’s nice :)” have at best a surface level understanding of him and at worst have absorbed the entirety of their view of him from random tumblr text posts.

#something about comics fandom seems to accelerate flanderization beyond the norm for other fandoms #and i suspect it’s bc a lot of people assume they already know a lot of characters simply from being pop culture icons #and also tumblr is great for spreading out of context panels and drawing wildly incorrect conclusions from them lmao #nothing drives me crazier than people who want to strip every ounce of tragedy and conflict and grief out of the story of superman #this is a man who’s life started with him being the last known survivor of an alien species #there is a deep tragedy and loneliness and grief at the core of him #denying him emotional complexity in service of just making him A Good Boy From Kansas is so boring to me 😭#clark kent #superman
