Trusting the Lord in Times of Suffering: An Expository Study of Alma 14
In our journey of faith, suffering can often feel insurmountable. It's in these moments that we must remember Christ's example and His ultimate sacrifice.
Alma the Younger and Amulek are led away from the fire that has consumed the believers in Ammonihah. Suffering is an inevitable part of the human experience, especially for believers striving to walk the path of righteousness. In Alma 14, we find a profound example of enduring faith amidst unimaginable trials. Alma and Amulek faced severe persecution and witnessed the martyrdom of the faithful,…

For Writers: Incorporating Esotericism into World-Building
Esotericism refers to a broad category of spiritual, philosophical, and mystical traditions that focus on the pursuit of hidden, inner knowledge that is only accessible to a select few.
In this first post, I'll introduce the basics of esotericism and explore how these concepts work together to create an ongoing cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. We'll also set the stage for exploring these ideas more deeply across different cultures and spiritual traditions.
It is about seeking the deeper truths of the universe, reality, and the self—truths that are often concealed from ordinary perception or common understanding. Esoteric teachings often require initiation, self-discovery, and a certain level of spiritual or intellectual maturity to grasp.
Esoteric traditions typically stand in contrast to exoteric religions, which are the outward, public practices of faith meant for all adherents. While exoteric traditions focus on communal worship, rituals, and scriptures available to everyone, esotericism emphasizes personal, internal experiences and insights, often hidden in symbolism, allegory, or mystical practice.
Esotericism offers a wealth of material for creating complex worlds and characters. Here are a few ways to use esoteric concepts in your writing:
Secret Societies and Mystery Schools: Create organizations in your world that guard hidden knowledge, initiate members into mystical traditions, and use symbols to communicate deep truths. These groups might influence politics, religion, or culture from behind the scenes.
Alchemical Symbolism: Use alchemical symbols and the concept of spiritual transformation to enrich your magic systems or character development. Characters could embark on a metaphorical "great work," transforming themselves spiritually as they pursue physical goals.
Correspondence and Cosmic Connection: Play with the idea of correspondence, where events in one realm reflect events in another. Perhaps the movements of stars dictate the rise and fall of empires, or characters must learn to read cosmic signs to guide their journeys.
Mystical Experiences: Characters could undergo mystical experiences that reveal hidden knowledge or spiritual truths. These visions might guide them on their quests or challenge their understanding of reality.
Key Concepts in Esotericism
Hidden Knowledge (Occult Knowledge) At the heart of esotericism is the belief that hidden truths—often called occult knowledge—exist beneath the surface of everyday experience. This knowledge is believed to offer a deeper understanding of the cosmos, the divine, and the human soul. In many esoteric traditions, discovering this hidden knowledge requires initiation, meditation, or the study of sacred texts. Occult, from the Latin word occultus (meaning "hidden" or "secret"), often refers to knowledge or power that is beyond ordinary human understanding, reserved for those who are spiritually or intellectually prepared to access it.
Initiation and Secrecy Esoteric knowledge is often protected by initiation rites and secrecy. Only those deemed worthy or prepared are allowed to receive the teachings. These secret societies or schools of thought, such as the Freemasons, Rosicrucians, and Hermeticists, practice initiation rituals to induct new members into the more profound mysteries. This is why esotericism is often linked with mystery schools—institutions that taught spiritual and philosophical ideas in secret, using symbolism, ritual, and hidden meaning to communicate their teachings to those ready to understand them.
Correspondence and Analogy One of the guiding principles of esotericism is the idea of correspondence, the belief that everything in the universe is connected and that the microcosm reflects the macrocosm. This is best summarized in the Hermetic maxim: "As above, so below." This idea suggests that everything on the physical plane reflects a higher, spiritual reality, and by understanding one level of existence, we can gain insight into the others. For example, the movements of the planets (macrocosm) can correspond to events in an individual’s life (microcosm).
Alchemy and Transformation Alchemy is one of the most famous esoteric traditions, often misunderstood as simply the quest to turn base metals into gold. In reality, alchemy is a complex system of symbolic and spiritual transformation. The actual "gold" of alchemy is the purification and elevation of the soul. The alchemist seeks material and spiritual perfection through transmutation—breaking down impurities and refining elements. Esoteric alchemy draws on the idea of transforming the self through spiritual growth, much as the alchemist refines metals in the laboratory. This process of personal transformation is a central theme in many esoteric teachings
Astrology and Cosmic Influence Astrology plays a significant role in many esoteric systems, as it is believed that the planets and stars influence not only events on Earth but also the individual soul’s journey. In esoteric thought, astrology is not merely a tool for divination but a system for understanding how the universe influences human experience and consciousness. Esoteric astrology emphasizes the spiritual and psychological meanings behind planetary movements, helping individuals understand their soul's evolution and the lessons they are meant to learn in each incarnation.
Mystical Experience and Direct Revelation Unlike dogmatic religious systems that rely on external authorities (like sacred texts or clergy), esotericism often emphasizes personal mystical experience. The goal is to achieve gnosis, or direct knowledge of the divine, through contemplation, meditation, or other spiritual practices. Mystical experiences in esotericism are seen as moments of direct communion with the divine, allowing the individual to transcend the limitations of ordinary perception and access more profound truths about the nature of reality.
In the next post, we’ll delve into how different spiritual traditions worldwide interpret culture, from Hinduism and Buddhism to Western esoteric traditions like Gnosticism and Theosophy.
Esotericism as a Path to Hidden Truths
Esotericism invites both readers and characters to explore the hidden layers of existence, seeking deeper meaning in the universe and within themselves. Whether through the study of ancient symbols, the pursuit of personal transformation, or the unveiling of cosmic connections, esotericism offers a profound and mystical journey into the unknown.
For writers, it provides a rich framework for crafting stories that explore themystical, the hidden, and the transformative. Whether you’re designing secret societies, crafting magical systems, or delving into character development through spiritual awakening, esoteric concepts can give your narratives depth, intrigue, and a sense of the transcendent.
Esotericism teaches that reality is more than what we see, and by peeling back the layers, both characters and readers can discover truths that are often hidden in plain sight.

Imagine an origin swapped Gideon the Ninth.
Harrow the Sixth, Palamedes the Ninth.
The reverend father and mother fail in their efforts to conceive a necromancer. Their child is horribly normal. So, in secret, they conspire with the Sixth house (the house least concerned with controlling them) to exchange children. Palamedes is orphaned from birth, and consequently a promising necromancer but has no one willing to divert their studies to care for him. Harrow, an interesting case of failed necromantic induction, is an interesting study case.
Harrow is raised in the sixth house as a study subject. She is fascinated with necromancy and studies I extensively. She remains an incredible source of thalergy due to the nature of her parents meddling at birth and is paired with a Camilla, an incredibly clever and practical but barely potent necromancer, to be cavalier of the sixth. Harrow retains her flair for the dramatic and is frequently mesmerized by thoughts of what her life might have been like in the ninth house. She dreams about it constantly and often romanticizes what it would be like to be raised as a ninth house cultist. She is fascinated by bone magic and the tomb. She laments her origins and the sacrifice that failed to make her a necromancer, but her adopted parents/tutors instilled in her a belief that these acts were beyond her control and that the fault lay with her birth parents--she must do her best to carry on the legacy of the ninth house and protect the sacrifice they made to the best of her ability while still keeping the interests of the sixth in mind.
Palamedes is not told of his origins. He believes that he is the product of 200 dead children, how "parents" tell him as much and it is sort of true. He cost 201 children and a great deal of shame to acquire. He represents a broken line of tomb guardians. He will not inherit the responsibility of keeping the tomb shut. But only a select few know this. His parents conduct experiments on him, using their limited knowledge of flesh magic to alter his marrow to produce blood which matches a combination of their own genetics. It is their best efforts to attempt to undo their shame, to try and make him part of their bloodline. And it sort of works. Palamedes becomes an even more potent necromancer as a result and remains incredibly dedicated to the ninth house and the locked tomb. Bug he still feels misplaced. He feels like he doesn't belong, despite his desperate attempts to please his parents. His parents still shun him, despite their best efforts to make him one of them they cannot stand the thought of him inheriting their roles. So Pal does what he does best and throws himself into study. He does his best to become the absolute best ninth house bone magician. He studies the precepts of the cult, memorizes scripture and participates in services with a zealous fervor. Eventually he commits himself to studying the tomb itself and gradually unravelling all but one of its wards in an effort to better protect it. The only ones that show him pity are Ortus and Gideon. Ortus is delighted to spend time with anyone that would listen to his poetry. Gideon has a kindred spirit in Pal, as they both know deep down that neither of them belong. However, Gideon despises Palamedes for much the same reason she despises Harrow in the original story. Palamedes, likewise, is disturbed by Gideon. Their conflicting roles in the ninth house lead to the opening of the tomb in much the same fashion as the original. However, when the reverend father and mother take it upon themselves to commit suicide for Palamedes' sacrilege, he accepts his fault and is ready to join them. His is rescued at the last second by Ortus, who had come looking for his father and find Palamedes struggling in his noose, not quite heavy enough to die from the act. This changes their relationship for the worse.
When the call from Canaan house comes Harrow is sent along with Camilla. Camilla is trained to take the position of a lyctor and has studied necromancy and swordsmanship her whole life to meet that end; Harrow is sent as a decoy necromancer and siphoning battery for Camilla due to her incredible thalergic signature. The two don't get along particularly well despite being raised as adopted sisters, as Camilla is jealous of Harrow for reasons she can't quite bring herself to admit (she knows Harrow genuinely makes a better necromancer than her).
Meanwhile Palamedes, reverend Son of the ninth house has taken a vow of silence. He sees this as his last chance to make the ninth house proud of him. He brings Ortus as his cavalier. However, Gideon (who has consistently failed to escape from Palamedes or get the last word over him, despite his verbal silence) knows her best chance of escape is on the shuttle to Canaan house. This is the break both Gideon and Palamedes are looking for. And when Ortus dies inexplicably aboard the shuttle, Palamedes doesn't skip a beat when he realizes Gideon is there too and makes the best of the situation by dubbing her cavalier primary of the ninth on the spot.
Once at Canaan house, things go wrong quickly. Palamedes is bewitched by Dulcinea, Gideon is stalked by Harrow, Harrow is immediately (but quietly) clocked as a fake by Corona, Camilla grapples with her purpose, and all hell breaks loose when the signatures of three recently deceased bodies are discovered in a broken down furnace in the ruins.
The emperor undying asked for the best of the best from the nine houses to become his penitent saints and disciples, but it might just be that everyone that arrives under his invitation is a fraud.
--- ---
The idea came to me because of how fundamentally similar Harrow and Pal are as characters. In GtN they have a lot in parallel and act as foils, either could have been in the others shoes if they'd been raised the same. However, the circumstances that would have caused them to swap places does make the story significantly different. A lot of this is my own mental gymnastics too, just trying to figure out what would cause Harrow to end up being raised Sixth and Palamedes to be raised Ninth.
But I'd read it.

Jesus most frequently quoted the Old Testament book of Psalms during his ministry. The Psalms served as a significant source of scripture for Jesus, as seen in various instances throughout the Gospels. For example, during his crucifixion, Jesus cited Psalm 22:1, saying, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" This highlights the deep connection Jesus had with the Psalms[1][3][7].
In addition to Psalms, Jesus also frequently quoted from Deuteronomy and Isaiah. Deuteronomy was notably used by Jesus during his temptation in the wilderness to counter Satan's challenges[1][3]. Isaiah was another important source, with Jesus reading from Isaiah 61:1 in the synagogue, proclaiming its fulfillment through his ministry[2][4].
While Psalms stands out as the most quoted book by Jesus, these other books also played crucial roles in his teachings and responses throughout his life[1][3][7].

"Truth and Justice." From Surah 6, Al An'am, the Cattle.
Tumblr media
Following is quite a diatribe with a zinger at the end. The crux of it is, man is not called intelligence, it is not his natural state, he will not evolve into a more intelligent being because of natural forces or because of survival of the fittest. Intelligence and sentience, the ability to recognize the Self in other beings is self-induced.
One can miss the chance through no fault of one's own, but to refuse to be inducted into the human species and become a responsible member of a civil society is a sin.
6:104-115:
There has come to you enlightenment from your Lord. So whoever will see does so for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever is blind [does harm] against it. And [say], "I am not a guardian over you."
And thus do We diversify the verses so the disbelievers will say, "You have studied," and so We may make the Qur'an clear for a people who know.
Follow, [O Muhammad], what has been revealed to you from your Lord - there is no deity except Him - and turn away from those who associate others with Allah .
But if Allah had willed, they would not have associated. And We have not appointed you over them as a guardian, nor are you a manager over them.
And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do.
And they swear by Allah their strongest oaths that if a sign came to them, they would surely believe in it. Say, "The signs are only with Allah ." And what will make you perceive that even if a sign came, they would not believe.
And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they refused to believe in it the first time. And We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly.
And even if We had sent down to them the angels [with the message] and the dead spoke to them [of it] and We gathered together every [created] thing in front of them, they would not believe unless Allah should will. But most of them, [of that], are ignorant.
And thus We have made for every prophet an enemy - devils from mankind and jinn, inspiring to one another decorative speech in delusion. But if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it, so leave them and that which they invent.
And [it is] so the hearts of those who disbelieve in the Hereafter will incline toward it and that they will be satisfied with it and that they will commit that which they are committing.
[Say], "Then is it other than Allah I should seek as judge while it is He who has revealed to you the Book explained in detail?" And those to whom We [previously] gave the Scripture know that it is sent down from your Lord in truth, so never be among the doubters.
And the word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None can alter His words, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

Eight Criteria for Thought Reform
Milieu Control. This involves the control of information and communication both within the environment and, ultimately, within the individual, resulting in a significant degree of isolation from society at large. Mystical Manipulation. The manipulation of experiences that appears spontaneous but is, in fact, planned and orchestrated by the group or its leaders to demonstrate divine authority, spiritual advancement, or some exceptional talent or insight that sets the leader and/or group apart from humanity, and that allows a reinterpretation of historical events, scripture, and other experiences. Coincidences and happenstance oddities are interpreted as omens or prophecies. Demand for Purity. The world is viewed as black and white and the members are constantly exhorted to conform to the ideology of the group and strive for perfection. The induction of guilt and/or shame is a powerful control device used here. Confession. Sins, as defined by the group, are to be confessed either to a personal monitor or publicly to the group. There is no confidentiality; members' "sins," "attitudes," and "faults" are discussed and exploited by the leaders. Sacred Science. The group's doctrine or ideology is considered to be the ultimate Truth, beyond all questioning or dispute. Truth is not to be found outside the group. The leader, as the spokesperson for God or all humanity, is likewise above criticism. Loading the Language. The group interprets or uses words and phrases in new ways so that often the outside world does not understand. This jargon consists of thought-terminating clichés, which serve to alter members' thought processes to conform to the group's way of thinking. Doctrine over person. Members' personal experiences are subordinated to the sacred science and any contrary experiences must be denied or reinterpreted to fit the ideology of the group. Dispensing of existence. The group has the prerogative to decide who has the right to exist and who does not. This is usually not literal but means that those in the outside world are not saved, unenlightened, unconscious, and must be converted to the group's ideology. If they do not join the group or are critical of the group, then they must be rejected by the members. Thus, the outside world loses all credibility. In conjunction, should any member leave the group, he or she must be rejected also.

Comprehending Teaching - Effective Biblical Teaching
Tumblr media
how to be saved by Jesus
Since teaching is just not an optional activity but your awesome responsibility, the author provides Scriptural justification for that exercise of this command inside the opening chapter. Admitting it is hard work on the teacher that will require discipline, he encourages individuals who face the challenge because you will have an eternal evaluation on this Christ-centered curriculum. The second phase on reasons why students discover exposes the daunting process of the teacher. The discussion involving motivation is in consonance with all the law of encouragement simply by Hendrick. The next two chapters focus on inductive study concerning skills of observation, model and application as the trainer prepares in the Word. Hermeneutics, the writer realistically observes, should not be a hindrance for you to effective Bible teaching. It truly is deduced from the discussion that will observation, interpretation and program lead to transformation. This is the target of teaching God's Phrase. Chapter five analyzes the value of understanding the aim of each session since teaching is an purposive and directional activity. The worthiness, sources and kinds of goals set the discussion in point of view. Chapter six addresses the significance of planning the lesson. Just like Rowlands, the writer criticizes contentious statements by extremists who entirely rely on the actual Holy Spirit or only depend on the relationship between the pupil and teacher for noise teaching. The point of importance in chapter seven would be that the teachers should control the particular curriculum and not vice versa. The particular writer guides them to make use of curriculum materials. Chapter ten is a reaction to a tedious manner of teaching as rules and purpose of a variety of novice, group and student- based methods are discussed.
how to be saved by Jesus
Inside chapter nine, the article writer explores the teacher's undertaking to prepare teaching materials. Just before preparing the appropriate materials, it truly is proffered that the teacher need to make sure that he knows his pupils well, prays for them, arranges lesson materials and makes typically the classroom setting ready for these (particularly at the lower levels). Chapter ten presents often the setting up of the classroom. Because the teacher adjusts teaching to help recent occurrences in the lifestyles of the students, the bodily environment (facility, space, graphic and auditory conditions), educational environment (arrangement, image looking at, grouping factors, student contribution, equipment) and psychosocial surroundings (home, family, work, university, community, cultural and faith based influences) are discussed. Factors, purposes, types, sources in addition to guidelines for evaluation web form the discourse in segment eleven. The teacher is inspired to establish standards for analysis, select the best presentation connected with present conditions, analyze details and eventually communicate the results on the evaluation of interested celebrations. Chapter twelve -on trying to keep afresh or abreast- is a rendition of the law with the teacher. A teacher can just only stay balanced if he or she continues to learn today that may enable him to teach down the road. The writer emphasizes the fresh teacher is nor a stagnant pond or a dry brook.
Many issues raised could be referred to as opinions expressed by additional writers. A case in point is the dialogue on cognitive, affective as well as psycho-motor. Perhaps what is demanding is the vivid illustrations to clarify these 'know, feel and do' aims. Another is the accountability of the teacher in class room management. Furthermore, the copy writer re-echoes the necessity of the professor adequately knowing the students.
One particular however expected Carlson just like Nwachukwu (1998) to attempt any distinction of, and partnership between a syllabus and also curriculum which he does not deal with inadvertently or otherwise. The article author is also off-course when he strains the identification of the sensed needs of the student given that he should have concentrated particular actual needs which are more related. In spite of the above, this 85 six page volume is actually a welcome contribution to comprehending effective biblical teaching inside contemporary society. A just one insight is the writer's respond to the question, 'Do My spouse and i write a lesson the same way My partner and i present it? ' He or she believes that in planning, one starts with the ultimate impact and gradually movements to the contact section.

Inductive Scripture Study: Enter the Rest of the Lord through Alma 13-16
To enter into the Rest of the Lord, one must seek the comfort and peace that Jesus Christ offers to those who are heavy laden and wearied. Christ himself taught that he would provide rest to those burdened by the trials and tribulations of life.
Alma the Younger and Amulek walk away from the ruins of the prison in Ammonihah. Understanding the teachings of Alma 13-16 through Inductive Scripture Study can be transformative. This approach encourages a thorough examination of the scriptures, leading to profound insights and personal revelations. By engaging deeply with these chapters, you’ll uncover how the principles taught by Alma can…

𝗔 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵, 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟳: 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺
Dispensationalism is a Christian perspective (in some branches) of the partitioning of Biblical history into discrete units of time (dispensations) based on shifts in God’s method of administration on Earth, shifts often caused and demarcated by some great failing of mankind. The concept of dispensations is significant for its implications on literal interpretations of the Bible and the relationship of the New and Old testaments, and by extension thereof the Christian relationship with Judaism. It is similar to the Baháʼí concept of progressive revelation.
𝘁’𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻
Concepts very similar to Dispensationalism have been a part of Christian philosophy for a long time, dating back at least to the 2nd century CE and touched upon by many prominent voices throughout the ages. The tradition most familiar to modern Western Christians originates with the 19th century British Bible scholar John Nelson Darby. Darby’s view on dispensations spread in America with the publishing of the 𝘚𝘤𝘰𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘉𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 in in early 20th century, still one of the most commonly used versions for biblical studies. Today, Dispensationalism is most associated with American Evangelicalism and similar organizations. At its most basic, Dispensationalism views periods of Biblical history, from Adam and Eve to the end time, as transitions between God’s systems of governance. Thus, Adam and Eve did not, and could not have, follow the same covenants as Noah, who in turn was obeying a different set of divine laws from Moses, and so on. This provides an answer to one of Christianity’s larger identity struggles: how to treat the Old Testament. Christianity developed from 1st century (both BC and BCE) branch of Judaism. As such, Christians have maintained a version of core Jewish scripture, the “Old Testament”, but have introduced additional scriptures in the “New Testament”. Because the two testaments do not always appear to line up, and as Christians developed non-Jewish identity, the issue of which testament was correct and how to feel about those who only accept the Old Testament became pressing. Christianity has many branches with different opinions on these topics, but in general the New Testament is often seen as being additive to, as opposed to replacing of, the Old Testament, thought New Testament views are generally seen to either supersede what came before or to reveal information that changes previous interpretations. Dispensationalism generally holds that the Old Testament was not wrong or even incomplete, that before the coming of the savior, Jesus Christ, and the establishment of the church, the laws of the Old Testament contained the accurate and literal will of God. Because it is compatible with, if not encouraging of, literal interpretations of scripture, the view is popular amongst fundamentalist branches. Because it maintains the status of Jews as God’s chosen people, Dispensationalism also encourages a view of Jews not as distinct, but as a part of the Christian tradition. Many of America’s policies towards the modern state of Israel have been informed by this religious doctrine.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
There are multiple divisions found in Dispensationalist philosophies, the following is the version that was most common in my research and one popularized by current prominent Evangelical voices. The general trend of the dispensations is that God enacts a policy of rule on Earth, only for humanity to inevitably fail to uphold virtue to the point of catastrophe, at which point God must change His method. Some view the dispensations as horizontal shifts, i.e. different from one another but not necessarily correlated or progressive. Others see them as vertical or progressive, meaning that each one is building off the last and that the ordering of them is important to mankind’s eventual comprehension of God’s final truth.
𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
The first dispensation was given to Adam and Eve, the Biblical first man and woman who lived in the paradise of the Garden of Eden. Because, at this time, there was not yet evil on Earth and the Garden provided anything Adam and Eve could want, this dispensation has not covenant or law. God had made the world seemingly perfect and so no systemic management was strictly necessary. This all ends once Adam and Eve are tempted to defy God and eat from the Tree of Knowledge, which results in their banishment from Eden.
𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
After Adam and Eve go out into the world, with little direction from God, they and their children must rely on their newfound knowledge of Good and Evil. This manner of divine administration can be seen in the story of Cain, Adam and Eve’s son and the first murderer. In the Bible, God is aware of Cain’s potential sin and speaks to him, but ultimately the decision remains with Cain and his own conscience. Free will is a recurrent negative theme in this period, as it is also when the rebellious angels come to earth and mate with humans. This continues poorly until things get so bad God sends the great flood, wiping out all of mankind except for Noah and his kin.
𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁
Having witnessed the unreliability of human conscience, the first systemic laws are given to Noah and his family, most prominent among them being the concept of capital punishment, or state sanctioned murder. This can be seen as the invention, albeit crudely, of executive law enforcement. Mankind ultimately fails this and organizes itself to defy God. Instead of spreading across and dominating the earth, Noah’s descendants stay put and build the Tower of Babel, an act generally seen as a hubristic attempt to reach the heavens. The tower is struck down and God splinters the previously unified language of humans, thus creating the various nations of the Earth.
𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲
Now living in distinct nations, God chooses from among them a chosen one to receive his latest commandment. This is the first time that God does not act in a way universal to mankind, but instead chooses specific human agents to act on his behalf. The Chosen one is the patriarch Abraham. Abrahams mission was to make his way to the promised land and establish a new nation there. This dispensation can almost be viewed as an intermediary: unified government has failed, just as conscience did before it. With the splintering of nations, God now needs representation amongst them but independent from any. Thus, he delivers a promise to Abraham and awaits the coming of Israel. Unfortunately, the line of Abraham fails as well, ultimately winding up trapped as slaves in Egypt.
𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗮𝘄
At last, God frees the slaves of Egypt and uses Moses to induct the next and possibly most important dispensation. This is the establishment of God’s own laws, the ten commandments and ultimately the fullness of the Old Testament. In Israel the central temple and priesthood is established and finally a functioning divine administration on Earth is established. This dispensation ends with the coming of Jesus Christ. By some reckonings, this is the ultimate dispensation. In this view the next one is not a true subsequent dispensation, but a brief interruption, in a similar fashion that a leap day might be added to the year to keep it in line with the solar cycle.
𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲
This is the current dispensation, and was established upon the arrival and death of the messiah, Jesus Christ, and the establishment of the church. The law of this dispensation is the revelation and recognition of the savior’s arrival as recounted in the New Testament. The Israelites, apart from Jesus’ own followers, did not recognize the savior when he came and for this lost their divine protection and were scattered. On this there is some variety in interpretation. Sometimes the punishment of the Israelites is less of a punishment and more a necessary step of transition as the church spreads the administration of God throughout the world (which differs from Moses’ laws which were for Israel alone). As mentioned earlier, a common idea in Dispensationalism is the idea that this dispensation is only an interposition withing the Dispensation of Law, and thus the state of Israel and the temple will be reestablished before the messiah returns, hence the aforementioned impact on modern U.S./Israeli relations. This dispensation ends with the return of Jesus and the Rapture.
𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺
The nature of the final dispensation can be muddled, as different branches may hole different opinions on the specifics of the end of days. Broadly speaking (for branches that recognize this list or similar dispensations), Jesus will return to earth and reign as king in Israel, effectively as God on Earth, for 1,000 years. During this time all will be perfect, almost Edenic, but ultimately Satan, the great tempter of mankind, will stoke discontentedness and a final rebellion of humans and demons will arise, prompting God to enact a final judgement of all souls and establish a truly perfect Eternal Kingdom.

Note
Exams are coming up for me and I'm Hella stressing ;v; Could I get some headcanons for the npcs (like Aymeric, Estinien, and the scions) on how they cheer on/cheer up the wol when they're stressed about a test pls. Thank you for what you do!
The Scions of the Seventh dawn are an eccentric bunch and, as such, have more than enough experience with stress and confusing (and ancient) tomes.
Urianger is a great teacher. He’s patient and cuts the content into easily absorbed sections, all the while sounding moderately incomprehensible and perfectly calm. His welcoming way of offering help and making himself available as a study partner allows the Warrior of Light plenty of leeway to ask questions and work alongside him without fear of being bothersome.
Y’shtola never turns down an opportunity to explain the finer points of Aetherology and atmospheric polarity, even if her student-slash-studybuddy slams their face into their textbook as if to forcefully induct knowledge. She’s not as patient as Urianger, but her diagrams and explanations are clearer and easier to copy down to parchment.
Thancred is more the sort to pop up with a mug of tea and an offer of a much needed back rub than he is to suffer through exam hell. Lyse and many of the other, more action-prone Scions stop by with snacks and words of encouragement while their friend studies from dawn to dusk.
Aymeric is used to tackling fortresses of incomprehensible text. What he’s not used to, however, is having the Warrior of Light take up residence at his desk with so many scrolls and tomes he’s nearly sure they’ve borrowed half of the Halonic Inquisition’s library. He settles down in one of the chairs he usually reserves for guests to keep them company, assuming all they have need of is his presence (which is both correct and incorrect─the Warrior, while rejuvenated by the fine lines of his face, is thoroughly distracted by his offers of help and patient smile).
Estinien is not one for books. He’s literate, yes, but he finds no need to settle and waste time nose-deep in the near-infinite supply of scripture relating to the Church of Halonic Inquisition. He enjoys listening to the Warrior speak, to follow the dips and peaks of their voice when they read through studies and scribbles alike, and offers his company when they need to have someone beside them. He’s not one for idle chatter or stillness, but they soothe him well enough that the hours are pleasant rather than grating.
