Step-by-Step Guide: How To Install Hinges on a Cabinet Door?
Tumblr media
Installing hinges on a cabinet door may seem like a daunting task, especially if you’re not familiar with woodworking or DIY projects. However, with the right tools and a step-by-step approach, you can easily accomplish this task and ensure that your cabinet doors open and close smoothly. In this article, we will guide you through the process of installing hinges on a cabinet door, providing you with the necessary instructions and tips to complete the job successfully.
Introduction
Installing hinges on a cabinet door is an essential step in the cabinet-making process. Hinges not only enable the door to swing open and closed but also provide stability and durability to the overall cabinet structure. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you’ll be able to install hinges on your cabinet doors like a pro.
Tools and Materials Needed
Before you begin the installation process, gather the following tools and materials:
Screwdriver
Drill
Chisel
Measuring tape
Pencil
Cabinet hinges
Screws
Types of Cabinet Hinges
Tumblr media
There are various types of cabinet hinges available, such as butt hinges, concealed hinges, and European hinges. Each type has its own advantages and installation requirements. Choose the hinge type that best suits your cabinet design and functionality needs.
Preparing the Cabinet and Door
To ensure a smooth installation, start by removing the cabinet door from its hinges. Lay the door on a flat and stable surface. Similarly, open the cabinet and remove any shelves or items that might obstruct your work.
Marking the Hinge Positions
Tumblr media
Using a pencil, mark the positions where you want to install the hinges on both the door and the cabinet. Take measurements and ensure that the markings are aligned and at the same height on both the door and the cabinet.
Mortising the Hinge Recesses
To create recesses for the hinges, use a chisel and carefully remove the wood from the marked areas on the door and the cabinet. Take your time and work slowly to achieve clean and precise recesses that match the size and shape of the hinges.
Attaching the Hinges to the Door
Place the hinge in the mortise on the door and align it with the marked position. Using a screwdriver or drill, secure the hinge to the door with screws. Repeat this process for all the hinges on the door.
Attaching the Hinges to the Cabinet
Tumblr media
Once the hinges are attached to the door, hold the door in place against the cabinet. Align the hinges on the door with the markings on the cabinet. Using a screwdriver or drill, secure the hinges to the cabinet with screws.
Testing and Adjusting the Door
After attaching the hinges, test the door by opening and closing it. Check if the door swings smoothly and if it aligns properly with the cabinet. If adjustments are needed, loosen the screws slightly and reposition the door until it functions correctly.
Conclusion
Installing hinges on a cabinet door is a task that can be accomplished with patience and the right tools. By following the step-by-step instructions provided in this article, you can successfully install hinges on your cabinet doors and ensure smooth operation. Remember to take measurements accurately and work carefully to achieve the best results.
FAQs
1. Can I install hinges on an existing cabinet door?
Yes, you can install hinges on an existing cabinet door by following the same steps outlined in this article. However, you may need to make adjustments to the door or the cabinet to accommodate the hinges.
2. How many hinges do I need for a cabinet door?
The number of hinges required for a cabinet door depends on its size and weight. As a general rule, doors up to 36 inches tall and 24 inches wide typically require two hinges. Larger and heavier doors may require additional hinges for added support.
3. What should I do if the hinges are not aligning properly?
If the hinges are not aligning properly, check if the mortises are the correct depth and size for the hinges. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure a proper fit. You can also try loosening the screws and repositioning the hinges slightly.
4. Can I use different types of hinges on the same cabinet door?
While it’s best to use the same type of hinges throughout a cabinet, you can use different types if needed. However, keep in mind that different hinges may require different installation methods and adjustments.
5. How often should I lubricate the hinges on my cabinet doors?
To ensure smooth operation, it’s recommended to lubricate the hinges on your cabinet doors at least once a year. Use a silicone-based or graphite lubricant for best results.
6. What is the recommended hinge type for inset cabinet doors?
For inset cabinet doors, concealed hinges are often the preferred choice. They are designed to be mounted on the inside of the cabinet frame and provide a clean, streamlined look without any visible hinges from the outside.
7. How can I ensure that my cabinet door hangs straight after installing the hinges?
To ensure that your cabinet door hangs straight, use a level to check its alignment. If adjustments are needed, you can loosen the screws on the hinges slightly and reposition the door until it hangs evenly.
8. Can I install soft-close hinges on my cabinet doors?
Yes, you can install soft-close hinges on your cabinet doors for a more gentle and quiet closing motion. Soft-close hinges have a built-in mechanism that slows down the door’s movement as it closes, reducing the chance of it slamming shut.
9. Should I pre-drill the screw holes for the hinges?
Pre-drilling the screw holes can help prevent the wood from splitting and make it easier to secure the hinges. Use a drill bit that matches the size of the screws you’re using and drill the pilot holes before attaching the hinges.
10. Can I paint or stain the cabinet door after installing the hinges?
Yes, you can paint or stain the cabinet door after installing the hinges. However, it’s recommended to remove the hinges from the door before applying any finishes to ensure an even and professional-looking result. Reattach the hinges once the paint or stain has dried.

Kiss in the Kitchen, Like it's a Dance Floor
Pairing: Steve Harrington x gn!reader
WC: 1.7k (exactly, which is wild)
TW: Teasing, kissing, pg-13 make out, sexual innuendos, mentions of sex and orgasms, this is literally just the foreplay before kitchen sex without the actual must part, mentions of previous trauma, mention of blood, kitchen weaponry,
A/N: I just wanted to write some fluff, also Eddie survived because he is a plot device, no matter how small, and I need him to be alive for this. I really tried to keep it as ambiguous descriptions of the reader as possible, if something needs to be edited, lemme know and I'll 100% change it since I really want this to be actually gender neutral!
Tumblr media
You loved to cook. It was one of your favorite things on the planet. You were one of those people that just tossed things into a bowl, and managed to make a perfect four course meal, including dessert. Which is why you adored your kitchen so much. Steve had let you take the head on designing the kitchen, since you were going to be in there more than him. Steve could cook, in fact, when Steve cooked, it was quite the welcome surprise for you. He had to learn since no one was home to make him dinner, or even teach him. To Steve, cooking was not enjoyable, it was survival only. But for you? It was an art form, it was a way of showing your love.
You and Steve had gotten lucky–as lucky as two people who survived the apocalypse, lost the tail end of their childhoods, fought monsters beyond their wildest nightmares, and have the scars and trauma to prove it all, can be. After the earth split, swallowing most of Hawkins whole, a lot of people fled the area, desperately trying to sell their homes. Once Vecna had been defeated, You and Steve took complete advantage of it, and bought a small ranch-like house about fifteen minutes outside of Hawkins. It was only one story, but it came with over three acres of land. You were able to get it even cheaper, saying that you would be doing all of  the renovations yourself, saving the previous owners a lot of money in the process.
Truly, it was the definition of a fixer upper, barely inhabitable.
There was a lot of work that needed to be done, so when Steve was away at work, you would fix the hinges on doors, figure out the electrical wiring for the plugs in the kitchen, reupholster furniture. And while you were away at classes, or at work, Steve would build your bed, or paint the walls, or have Eddie or Jonathan help him install new windows. But you both loved unpacking your things together, because it meant that the space was becoming your own. Slowly but surely, the house was coming together.
The kitchen was the second thing you two had finished, the bedroom being the first (obviously). The final touch were the cabinets. They were the absolutely perfect color, with a glass front to see the minimal dishes you and Steve actually owned, but they brought the room together perfectly. There were pictures of you both attached to the front of the fridge with magnets. There were a couple of small pots on the windowsill over the kitchen sink, holding a couple of herbs like basil and cilantro and mint. It was just perfect.
It was early in the morning, way earlier than you usually woke up, but you wanted to get a head start on breakfast, letting Steve wake up to some food before you both started painting the living room area today.
After the night you had last night, you felt like Steve deserved to be spoiled. Especially since he completely spoiled you last night. Repeatedly. Repeatedly.
As you slowly  slipped out of bed, Steve groaned. His arms reached out to your side of the bed, confused as to why you weren’t there, but you quickly nudged your pillow into his arms. It seemed to do the trick as you slowly crept out of the room, your door closing with a soft click. As you walked towards the kitchen, you opened every single curtain, and every single window in the living room/dining room area, letting the cool, late summer, morning breeze sweep through the house, as you slowly padded into the kitchen.
The first thing you and Steve had purchased was a cassette player. It sat proudly on the kitchen bar, music playing all the time, whenever you were home. So naturally, at 6 am, you had it playing softly, while you quietly shuffled around, looking for the one skillet you did have.
Two weeks ago, you and Steve had a date night at the movies. Just like everyone else, you had gone to see Dirty Dancing, and you had found yourself obsessed with the soundtrack. After an intense bribing session involving a cake, a bottle of vodka, and three advanced promises of skipping a night class to go and watch Corroded Coffin at their shows, Eddie was willing/managed to set aside one of the copies for you. You had kissed him on the cheek making him turn bright red and Steve turn bright green. It was a miracle the tape wasn’t worn through since you haven’t stopped listening to it.
Love is Strange by Mickey and Slvia was softly playing in the background, and instead of singing it, aware of your sleeping boyfriend, you were only humming it.
You let out a little “aha!” when you found the skillet, crouching down and grabbing it from the cabinet. You both were still figuring out which things were going where, so it was a bit of a guessing game when it came to finding things in the kitchen. When you stood up, you twirled it in your hand, singing a little bit, adding in a dance. You gave it a little swing, hitting a home run across the room. As you twirled around, pan in air, your eyes went from playful to absolute terror. Steve was behind you. Luckily his reflexes were still working, despite the sleep coming off of him, because he ducked quickly while you let out a gasp.
The last thing Steve Harrington needed was another concussion.
“Oh my god Steve I’m so—“
“Didn’t know I was dating Babe Ruth.” He mumbled, joking, standing completely up again, yawning in the middle of his stance. His arms went over head as the sweats he was wearing sank a little bit lower on his hips. You should’ve eyed him up and down right then and there. You should’ve made a cheeky comment about the hickies you had left on his hips last night. But instead, you panicked.
“Are you okay?” You dropped the skillet on the counter, immediately placing your hands on his cheeks, tilting his head around, attempting to locate any sort of imperfection you just added to your boyfriend's skin. It was getting more and more difficult to breathe. All you could think about was how many people had hurt him, and now suddenly your name was lumped in with theirs.
“Babe.”
Your eyes were frantic, repeatedly scanning his face, his head, his hair.
“Baby—hey.” He took your hands from his face and brought them to his lips. “I would be knocked out on the floor if you managed to get me. I forgot how good of a swing you have….” His usual humor to calm you down going right over your head.  He knew you heard him, but something wasn’t getting through.
Your eyes squeezed shut, trying not to let past memories fill your mind. Steve knocked out on the floor, bruised. His face bloodied. Blood from his stomach across Lover’s Lake. Neck red and irritated. Bandages turned a deep red. Vines tightening around his skin.
“Hey.” Steve kissed your hands again. “Where’d you go?”
Your eyes opened and scanned over his face, quickly dashing from his eyes towards his neck, and then at his stomach, but back to his eyes.
“Ah.” He whispered, placing your hands around his neck as he pulled you into a hug. He always managed to ground you, it felt like a sick joke sometimes. Steve being your person was one of the best things to happen to you, but watching him get beaten up over and over again was difficult. It took a toll on you too. Everytime, he would chance fate a little more than before, and some day the luck was going to run out, and you didn’t want to even entertain the idea of a next time.
Steve ran his hand along your back, smiling slightly at your choice of music, completely unsurprised. He had woken up as soon as the door clicked shut, not really understanding why you had been replaced by a pillow. Watching as you danced around the kitchen was a vision for him, and him only. So when you almost gave him another concussion, he felt kind of bad for sneaking up on you.
“Why are you awake?” You asked after a minute or two of silence, enjoying the comfort of one another, basking in the morning glow of the sun shining through the windows.
“You abandoned me.”
“I know, I’m sorry.” You mumbled into his chest. Feeling slightly better, you teased him a bit. “Could you ever forgive me?”
Steve pondered for a moment, twisting his face into faux consideration before smiling. “I think a good morning kiss would be an acceptable apology.”
“Okay Lover Boy,” You laughed softly, pressing your lips to his, enjoying the feeling. It was a tender kiss, filled with love. Steve deepened the kiss slightly, but you had other things in mind, like making breakfast for the both of you.
You bit his lip and tugged on it slightly before breaking off the kiss, not afraid to tease back. “I wanted to make you breakfast.” Providing the final piece of your explanation, moving to turn and grab the potential murder weapon off of the counter again.
But Steve wasn’t ready to let you move out of his arms quite yet. He groaned and pulled your back against his bare chest. Because Steve slept in a pair of sweatpants, and that was about it, he always made your morning views quite stunning–his freckles and moles were constellations across his skin, his summer tan bringing out more of them.
He swayed back and forth with you, kissing your neck. “What did I do to deserve you?” He whispered into your neck. “Only wearing my shirt and shit, making me breakfast.”
His hands slid downwards, thumbing with the edge of his crewneck, fingers brushing your bare skin.
“Steve….” You hummed.
“What baby.” He moved slowly, kissing your shoulders next, stretching out the neck of the crewneck you were wearing.
Your breath hitched as he slid one of his hands downward, toying with the edge of your underwear. His other hand slid up, warm fingers gliding over your chest, your brain getting more and more fuzzy by the second.
“I-I was—fuck Steve.” You mumbled, rolling your hips into his, craving more contact than he was giving. “I wanted to-to-to.” You let out a soft moan while Steve continues to tease you, love on you. “To cook and s-surprise y–”
“Oh sweetheart.” He kissed the tender spot on your neck, causing you to moan again, this time louder, breathier—needier. “You can cook for me later, I already know what I’m having for breakfast.”

The home I am renting is newly renovated and very nice. It is a split level probably built in the 70’s and isn’t really my style but I’m only here for a few months so it is fine.
Whoever installed the kitchen cabinets paid for the expensive adjustable hinges but didn’t bother adjusting them. I couldn’t take it any more and found a screwdriver and fixed them. These cabinets look like they’ve been painted so I couldn’t get them perfect, but they are much improved and don’t bug me anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is an easy fix; if the gap in your cabinet doors isn’t even or the doors don’t line up straight, you can fix them in 5 minutes with a Phillips screw driver.

Hiding an electric box and a storage cabinet can be achieved in various creative ways, depending on your specific situation and preferences.
Here are some ideas: Electric Box:
1; Wall Art;
Use decorative wall art or decals to cover the electric box. Ensure that they can be easily removed for maintenance.
2; Furniture Placement:
Strategically place furniture like a tall bookshelf, a decorative screen, or a console table in front of the electric box to conceal it.
3; Hinged Artwork or Mirror:
Install a hinged artwork or mirror that can be swung open to access the electric box when needed.
4; Cabinet or Shutter Cover:
Install a small cabinet or shutter with hinges that can be opened when access to the electric box is required.
5; Floating Shelves:
Install floating shelves that can be arranged around the electric box, incorporating it into a display of books, plants, or decorative items. Covering an electric panel with a cabinet can be done, but it's important to ensure that you maintain safe and easy access to the panel for maintenance and emergencies.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how you might accomplish this:
1; Materials and Tools Needed:
Cabinet:
Choose a cabinet that fits the dimensions of the electric panel and complements your room's decor.
2; Safety Considerations:
Ensure the cabinet doesn't obstruct the electric panel's visibility and accessibility. The cabinet doors should open easily to allow quick access to the panel.
Do not permanently attach the cabinet to the wall or panel; it should be easily removable.

Being the local inventor in the Violet Wolf would include:
- Fixing that one clock Violet's always seen broken since he first enrolled, after you spent a heated breakfast time staring at it in silence
- Being in the floors and looking at the pipes and failing to mention you're there
- The dorm thinks the noises you make are actually a ghost haunting them. Includes banging on panels and metal pieces, screaming curses, rusty and twisty noises, footsteps, mumbling, and so on
- Fixing creaky doors and other things around the dorm without saying a thing and somehow, no one's caught on that you're the one doing it
- Except Violet because he just knows, but he doesn't say anything
- Come on, you smell like oil and dust, your clothes have rips and stains, you have this pair of goggles around your eyes, and if not on your eyes, around your neck. You have smudges on your skin, and sometimes you walk around with a rag covering half your face. A look at you alone is enough to know
- Some students actually have caught you just standing somewhere on a ladder, doing something, but just chalked it up to another dorm student doing nothing they should take note of
- Also you throwing out random, true answers without batting an eye, and answers are either "Okay, sure" to "???" but no one suspects you're behind anything
You, cramming for history:
A Violet Wolf student talking to another: When do you think the locks on the gate will be replaced?
You, not looking up: Shou' be fixed by t'morrow.
- Writing blueprints and ideas in notebooks and being an average student in grades because you're more focused on your own thing than what the dorm warden is saying
- Getting excited and rushing about when you got something in your head to do like finally figuring out how to fix the kinks in whatever you're making
- And crying when the final products work like you want them to
- Accidentally finding a rats' nest in the dorm walls and now the dorm's sleeping in the school non-house-exclusive auditorium for the next month
- Somehow you forget to mention YOU'RE the one who's doing all these things, so the dorm starts thinking they have a spirit that fixes things around the dorm
- As far as the dorm knew of you, you were just trying to make things and they only saw everything EXCEPT the proper end product next to you
- Then a brief conversation with Cheslock and now everyone knows it's you fixing and making these things
Cheslock: What's th' wrench for? Fixin' the sinks?
You, wrench in hand and sandwich in mouth: Yuduh? Who you think's been fixin' and makin' the dorm, the Queen?
- You're the only one with permission and enough know-how to actually touch the piping
- Basically being the Nina Hopkins of Weston
- A list of things you've fixed include, but not limited to: broken clocks, door hinges, leaky pipes, door locks, the hanging-by-a-thread door knocker of the dorm warden, the room that no one's opened in five years since its knob fell off suddenly having one, Violet's easel when he wordlessly gave it to you and left, windows that've been unable to open until now, THAT DAMN BOARD GAMES AND CARDS CABINET IN THE LOUNGE THAT VINCENT PHANTOMHIVE LOCKED 20 YEARS AGO-
(The Violet Wolf stoned Ciel for a reason other than house rivalry, ifyouknowyouknow)
- And what's been made/installed, but also not limited to: wall shelves and cabinets in your shared room, shower heads that work, benches outside the dorm, hidden compartments in the walls to hold student stashes of food that open if you know where to smack the wall, and some kind of (still unsafe, but it's either this or absurdly tall ladders leaning on the dorm) pulley and crank invention that helps fags clean windows
- When the dorm knows it's you, you get some anonymous questions in your mailbox from other dorms (anonymous because house rivalry and "no getting chummy!!") about if you can make this or that
- Once, you made an automatic ball firing thing because of a green house letter giving you the idea. Or at least, you assume it was green house
- During fag time, you wheeled it out onto public property that every student could go on, and you had just been appointed a poor, first-year fag
"Are you sure this is safe?"
"No. But tha's why we testin' it, 'ight!! All goes well, we got us a helper for one-person cricket practice!! Now, just hold still.."
"But- But doesn't there need to be another person to operate the machine?!"
"Yeah, but this!" With a grin, you slapped your hand firmly onto the machine, getting a scared yelp out of your junior. "Should make it easier than havin' someone bad a' throwin'!! Practice for th' loners that need easy throws, you could say."
Ignoring your fag's whimper, his arms shaking and clutching the cricket bat tightly, you turned your attention to your current invention. Now, if things went right, one ball should drop here and be pushed out this way by this thing..
Bwoop!
Your fag swung blindly at the sound of a ball being ejected.
Instead, all you heard was the sound of glass shattering to your left.
"WHAT THE HELL, MATE?!" Aaand Cheslock. Why Cheslock?!
Your heads whipped to the source, where Cheslock stood with Violet, a shattered window very obviously right behind them.
Violet, who narrowly dodged the ball that flew fast enough to give concussions, was staring at you bug-eyed. According to where the broken window's point of impact centered, it seemed you were about to break his nose if he didn't move in time. Hm.
"Good thing I 'aven't installed the automatic fast-firing," you muttered, thinking of the feature that would be installed later. One that just shot balls unforgivingly, constantly, until it ran empty.
Hopefully, not many more windows would be broken.
And now Cheslock was grabbing your collar and shouting in your face about you being a moron, but you weren't really listening to him.
"Maybe I should see if Greenhill's willing to take my fag's place for this.." you wondered aloud, off-handedly noting the sound of a vein swelling.
"LISTEN TO ME!!!"
- Unfortunately for the school, your antics hardly ended there. Like when it snowed, your dorm found it a good idea to use your Fast-Firing-Ball-Invention-#42 to fire snowballs at the other house students...
"AIM!!!"
Someone was playing the bugle in the background, which acted as the announcing and warning of snowballs about to be loosed.
"FIRE!!!!!"
.. or when the prefects found cows on the lawn, eating their precious grass.
"Okay." Bluewer rubbed his temples, finding his patience worn very thin and feeling something in his head about to snap. "Tell me again, why did you steal the cows from the chefs' shipment?"
"Ah thought they be good at automatin'! If cows'n plow an' 'amsters can 'un, why not cows do th' same thing for bigger wheels, yeah?"
Truthfully, Bluewer could see your reasoning, and could even understand it.. if you weren't completely tied to a pole by rope that Midford was trying to undo. They already got the gag out of your mouth, and finally got you upright, but the blood seemed to have gone to your head. Your dialect was making it harder to understand you.
"And you're tied up because..?"
"Lynch mob." If you could shrug, you would've. "Dorm's fed up and's either this or ys. Of course," a flourish of your hand, if you could've, "ah chose th' more logical option."
"Well, that explains why Violet and Cheslock ignored you," Redmond murmured to himself, a hand on his chin and dirt visibly smudged on his cheek.
True to what Redmond said, when they showed up, all they saw was Violet outright ignoring you and heading back into his dorm to call it a day, and Cheslock taking one long, silent look at you.. before running off after his upperclassman.
"Violet, wait up!!"
- You've been enrolled at Weston for more than a year, so the school knows your face, if not name. At the least, they know of some crackhead inventor in the Violet Wolf, and according to the rumors that new kids say, you've set off fireworks at midnight and once made a machine stab a student for snubbing you
(The rumors are exaggerated)
- Everyone at Weston speaks fancy, proper English. But with new students and angry students, you can tell their social-economic backgrounds from how they talk. The same goes for you; be at Weston long enough, you start speaking like them. Though there's not much enforcement outside of the classroom, so you can find others speaking working-class English
- You're hard to understand by the more upper-crust when your dialect gets really strong, that some think you're just trying to mess with them.
(You are, at times; you once got a band of Scarlet Fox kids to brag for a month about their toenails. Everyone just let them be because they're rich, and the rich can be weird. Also, it's just funny to see them wiggling their toes and talking about "ol' Bessie")
- Once, you had a joking gibberish competition with Cheslock to see how bad you could get it, much to the befuddledment of Midford
- Some upper-crust kids think depending on how strong the dialect is, the poorer you are
- According to Redmond, your naming system for your inventions could use some work, but if it works, it works, right?
- He does get worried when you include names of actual students in them though. Like the Maurice-Cole-Heating-Machine-27, or the Gregory-Violet-Paint-Refuel-419, or the Lawrence-Bluewer-Bookmark-7...
- You installed two doorbells outside the violet dorm gate. One is for if someone actually needs something like being locked out of the dorm and needing to be let in. The other one is for shits and giggles
- Only the Violet Wolf students know which is which. To keep others from guessing correctly, there's a posted sign that if you need something, press both buttons at the same time
- The Violet Wolf dorm knows that if someone presses both at the same time, it's not one of theirs
- Ciel didn't know why there were two and followed the sign, immediately hearing the sound of a bugle before getting a bowl of lukewarm soup poured over his head
- When he tried again with pressing just one and getting the right doorbell, rather than him being stoned, he was scared off by some Violet Wolf students slamming against the metal fences, eyes glowing, teeth bared, hoods pulled up and bloody chanting for him to leave with some animalistic growling
- When he managed to get onto the property by not touching the buttons, he got stoned
- When he heard from MacMillan that you're the one who made those blasted bells, he begrudgingly respected you for being able to make things, but didn't like you otherwise, just because of the soup
- You accidentally burned off Cole's hair by having a theory about hair styling and heat around this time. According to you, if heat makes things (metal, but you didn't say) softer and easier to work with, wouldn't Cole's hair be able to do whatever you put it to, if you heat it up and had it cool down a certain way?
- Everyone in Weston has been conditioned by the sound of a bugle. If they hear one playing, they duck. It's a signature Violet Wolf sound of mischief
- The amount of complaints the prefects get about you is horrific, that they've had to incorporate an anonymous complaint BIN dedicated to you. Not only is every complaint fruitless when they try getting you to calm down a little, but they even become the literal fuel to your literal fire.
"Three ys."
"But it's just a bonfire to heat up-!"
"Do you want to make the record for more than 20 ys in one month?"
"... maybe."
"Look— you're already lucky it was me and not Violet who found you. Do you want me to call Violet? Do you? At this hour?"
- You probably die an early death because of asbestos, getting bit by a rodent, an invention mishap, or a spiteful once-Weston student

The Woodworker
Tumblr media
Gabriella had trained as a carpenter, and that meant she knew how to tear things apart. She'd helped to create a great many pieces - cabinets, shelves, furniture and other fittings - but first and foremost she'd destroyed what came before: each component had begun life as part of a larger sheet of wood, and she'd had to gouge and cut and plane and file them each into those chosen shapes.
Just as the sculptor's chisel shed more marble than it birthed, her workshop floor was filled with a children's playground's worth of woodchips and more shavings then her shower drain. Gabriella was a modern master. She had studied techniques traditional and cutting edge, from worlds Old and New, proficient with sash clamp and centre punch, with adze and crooked knife. If carpenters had built this world, she'd learnt how to perfect it, correcting the symmetry of whorls in a nearby elm, a sycamore's mess of branches. But first she had to tear the old ones down.
She had enjoyed it, for a time. Even in the boring parts - the monotony of working the same file over the the same surface, bowed over a wooden door - her imagination had kept her sane, and she'd daydreamed she was playing Bach on the cello, or sawing the throat of some bandit she'd captured unawares (at least, she imagined that was sanity). Then there had been pride, in seeing her finished work. The satisfaction of a job well done - which it was, every time.
But it had also taken its toll. She'd inhaled enough sawdust to keep a litter of gerbils contented in her stomach, and Gabriella left each day with her palms red and raw - her use of rasp, file, plane, sandpaper had served to smooth any surface she wished, but they only made her own skin rougher, adding thick callouses like extra knuckles on the wrong side. Her hands were unrecognisable - literally, as she'd completely lost her fingerprints.
That offered her a way out. Gabriella knew that she wasn't getting any younger, and she wasn't overly enamoured with the prospect of a lifetime of the same: decades of manual graft that would lead her to an early grave, in a coffin she'd no doubt also be expected to build. She remained a carpenter by day, keeping up appearances with a lacquer of truth across the roughness of deceit, but began to moonlight as a thief. As it turned out, she was a master at that too.
It was a locked door mystery, the detectives scribbled in their little books. It always was, when Gabriella left the scene. They whittled down the suspects, limited to those who'd had a copy of the keys: the girlfriend, the parents, the neighbour. Even the locksmith, at a push - a reason she took care not to target her own customers. It was important to keep a professional distance in these things, she thought: not to confuse business with pleasure. She never had, which was one of the reasons she wanted to retire.
With the loot never recovered, her marks no longer felt safe in their own home, and asked somebody else to change the locks. They didn't notice that they'd already been changed. The whole door had. Gabriella found it easiest to work that way. She would simply hack the original apart, and install a new one as she left. The replacement had to be perfect - everything hinged upon that, to keep her out of the frame - but then her work always was.
Some locks could be picked, she knew. But that was a whole other set of tools - fiddly ones, and far too much effort. The only picks she cared for were the sort they used in mines: far better to take an axe to the whole door, and just build a new one. Sledgehammers worked perfectly well on nuts, and there was no risk of them coming alive at night.
Gabriella would choose a target, and spent the first night on reconnaissance: casing the joint, just as she'd done so many times in the workshop. Then she'd work on the facsimile, revisiting and adjusting as many times as it took until it the two doors were identical. It could be painstaking work, but so was the rest of it, and this was by far the most profitable.
It had been a long career of hard graft, but now she'd rounded a corner - something she'd done with sandpaper countless times - and her life had been transformed. Gabriella had been renowned as a tradeswoman, but she traded in that pride to be a woman of her own. For all her prestige, she'd never had the money to actually take time off from work and live her dreams. Until now.
It was a locked door mystery, but then she had a workshop full of those: doors that fit all sorts of houses, each with the same standard lock, which would take any key of the same make. In the day, she sold them to construction firms, locks removed for them to replace. By night, she made several times the proceeds fitting her own, and freed another year of her life to travel, adventure, and everything she loved. Every time one door closed, another opened wide.

9 Modular Kitchen Hardware List for Aesthetic Kitchen Look
A modular kitchen with a wide range of options is the best way to get the most out of your investment. You can choose from different styles, materials and finishes and add on as many cabinets as you want.
You can go for a good modular kitchen hardware brand to get the customised hardware for your kitchen space.
Modular Kitchen Hardware List
The following are the modular kitchen hardware list that are present in every kitchen:
1. Sliding Hinges
A sliding hinge is a type of door that allows you to open and close the door from either side, rather than just one side. This makes it easier for people with accessibility needs to enter your home because they don't have to reach across their body or over their shoulder.
Sliding hinges come in two basic types: ball-bearing and spring tensioned. Ball-bearing hinges are lighter, but they can be damaged by heavy objects like pots and pans being dropped on them during cooking sessions at home.
Spring tensioned sliding doors are heavier than ball bearing ones but will not break under normal use conditions like those mentioned above!
2. Push Stays
Push Stays are used to hold the door open. They are also used in cupboards, pantry and other areas of a kitchen where you need an additional stop on things such as refrigerators and sinks.
These push-type stops can be attached to the inside or outside of doors by using screws or nails.
3. Base units
Base units are the basic units of kitchen cabinets. They are usually made of wood, but can also be made of metal.
4. Pull-outs with Aluminium Baskets (in different sizes)
Pull-outs with aluminium baskets (in different sizes)
Pull-outs are easy to use and clean.
5. SS Cutlery Basket with soft close mechanism
The SS Cutlery Basket with soft close mechanism is used to keep cutlery organized. It has a stainless steel frame and it has a soft close mechanism that will close smoothly, preventing your knives from slipping out of the basket.
This SS Cutlery Basket is made of durable material, so it can last for many years without wearing down or losing its shape. It's also easy to clean and maintain because there are no crevices where food can get trapped inside; all you need to do is wipe away any dust or grime with a damp cloth once in awhile!
6. Wall unit with mirrors
Mirrors are a great way to make a room look bigger, more stylish and more spacious. They can also provide the illusion of more space by reflecting the natural light in your kitchen. Mirrors are excellent for adding interest and drama to any room, but they do have their limitations:
If you have only one mirror in your kitchen, it won't provide much reflection on its own (unless there's another mirror nearby).
You'll need at least two mirrors for maximum reflection effect—one large enough for people to see themselves reflected back at them when eating or cooking; one small enough so that it doesn't obscure other items on display around it!
7. Basket for tall units
Baskets are used to store utensils, dishes and other kitchen items. They can be attached to the sides of your kitchen cabinets or hung from above as shelves. Baskets come in different sizes and materials: plastic; wood; metal; glass and ceramic. You may also find baskets with drawers that allow you to store small items such as scissors or knives inside them!
Baskets come in many colors so you can choose one that fits your style perfectly!
8. Side cabinets
Side cabinets are used to store kitchen appliances, utensils and other similar items. Side cabinets are also used to store kitchenware like plates, cups and cutlery. A side cabinet can also be converted into a pantry cabinet by installing shelves on its sides and storing additional storage space below them.
Side cabinets have become more popular in recent times because they allow you to have more conveniences at your fingertips without taking up too much space in your kitchen area. They come in different sizes so you can choose from among them depending on what type of appliances or utensils you want to keep handy when cooking or baking something delicious for family members!
If possible try looking for one that's adjustable as well since this will ensure that everything fits properly inside without having trouble opening doors correctly when needed most often during busy days where everyone wants something quick yet tasty because kids won't eat their food quite right without supervision :)
9. Rotatable mechanisms for cabinets, Island top and other open cabinet systems.
Rotatable mechanisms are used to rotate the cabinet door and open it in a different direction. They are especially useful for cabinets that require opening from either face, such as island tops and open cabinet systems.
The most common rotatable mechanism is the ball bearing, which allows you to use your fingers or knobs on both sides of the door when opening it from its edge or side. If you want more control over how much force is required when opening or closing your cabinet doors (or if they need opening manually), consider using one of these options:
Cage nut: This type of lock uses two opposing cage nuts connected by two screws; when unscrewed, these nuts can be rotated 180 degrees relative to each other before reassembly into place (see picture). This allows for very precise adjustment without having to remove anything but their respective locknuts!
The following are the modular kitchen hardware list that are present in every kitchen.
There are many different types of hardware for kitchen cabinets. The following are the modular kitchen hardware list that are present in every kitchen.
Sliding hinges
These can be used to make a door open and close smoothly, without any noise or rattling sounds like you would get from traditional doors. They also help prevent damage from being caused by rough treatment from children playing around with them as well as adults who may not clean up after themselves properly when cooking food at home on their own time schedules (which is something we all do).
Push stays
These are used when there are additional supports needed between two pieces of furniture so they don't move too much while being put together; this helps keep everything balanced and steady while being assembled properly first before installing into place permanently type custom made pieces such as those found here online today!
Conclusion
The modular kitchen hardware list is the most essential part of any kitchen. It gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of design and storage. In this post, we have tried to cover all aspects related to modular kitchen hardware.

Upgrade Your Kitchen with an IKEA Cabinet Retrofit: A Stylish Makeover
Are you looking to refresh your living space without breaking the bank? An IKEA cabinet retrofit might be just what you need. IKEA cabinets are known for their functionality and affordability, but they can sometimes lack personality. With a few simple modifications, you can transform your standard IKEA cabinets into stylish and unique pieces that elevate your home decor. This DIY guide will walk you through the process of an IKEA cabinet retrofit, focusing on replacing doors and adding custom touches.
Tumblr media
Why Choose an IKEA Cabinet Retrofit?
Affordability and Flexibility
IKEA cabinets are a popular choice due to their affordability and flexibility. Retrofitting allows you to upgrade these budget-friendly pieces without the cost of entirely new furniture. Plus, IKEA’s modular designs make it easy to swap out parts and customise as per your liking.
Personalised Style
By retrofitting your IKEA cabinets, you can infuse your personal style into your home. Whether you prefer a modern, rustic, or vintage look, customising cabinet doors and adding unique hardware can make a significant impact.
Step-by-Step Guide to an IKEA Cabinet Retrofit
Step 1: Plan Your Retrofit
Before you begin, take time to plan your retrofit. Decide on the style you want and the changes you wish to make. Do you want new doors, handles, or a fresh coat of paint? Measure your existing cabinets to ensure any new components will fit perfectly.
Step 2: Gather Your Materials
You will need:
New cabinet doors (compatible with IKEA frames)
Screwdriver and screws
Measuring tape
Level
Paint and brushes (if repainting)
New handles or knobs (optional)
Step 3: Remove Existing Doors
Carefully unscrew the existing cabinet doors from the hinges. Keep the screws and hinges if you plan to reuse them. This step is straightforward but requires attention to avoid damaging the cabinet frames.
Step 4: Install New Doors
Attach the new doors to the cabinet frames using the existing hinges or new ones if provided. Ensure the doors are level and properly aligned. This might require adjusting the hinges slightly until the doors close perfectly.
Step 5: Add Custom Touches
If you want to paint your new doors, now is the time. Choose a colour that complements your decor. Let the paint dry completely before reattaching the doors. Adding new handles or knobs is another easy way to personalise your cabinets. Choose hardware that matches the style you’re aiming for.
Step 6: Finishing Touches
Once your new doors are installed and any additional modifications are complete, give your cabinets a final check. Ensure everything is secure and looks as you envisioned. Clean up any dust or debris from the retrofit process.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
An IKEA cabinet retrofit is an excellent way to upgrade your space without a significant investment. By simply changing the doors and adding custom hardware, you can give your cabinets a fresh, stylish look that reflects your personal taste. This DIY project is perfect for anyone looking to add a touch of creativity to their home decor. Happy retrofitting!

Tumblr media
Why Choose IKEA Cabinet Doors?
When it comes to home improvement, IKEA is a name that stands out for its quality and affordability. Here are a few reasons why IKEA cabinet doors are a great choice:
Variety of Designs: IKEA offers a wide range of cabinet door designs, from classic to modern, ensuring there is something for everyone.
Affordable Pricing: Compared to custom-made cabinet doors, IKEA’s options are significantly more budget-friendly.
Easy to Install: IKEA cabinet doors are designed for easy installation, making them perfect for DIY enthusiasts.
Durability: Made from high-quality materials, these doors are built to last, ensuring you get the best value for your money.
Understanding IKEA Cabinet Retrofit
A cabinet retrofit involves updating your existing cabinet frames with new doors and hardware. This method is not only cost-effective but also less time-consuming than a complete renovation. Here’s how you can carry out an IKEA cabinet retrofit.
Planning Your Retrofit
Assess Your Current Cabinets
Before you begin, assess the condition of your current cabinets. Check the frames and structures to ensure they are in good shape. If your cabinets are structurally sound, a retrofit will be a straightforward process.
Measure Your Cabinets
Accurate measurements are crucial for a successful retrofit. Measure the height, width, and depth of your cabinet frames. Note these dimensions carefully, as they will guide you in selecting the right IKEA cabinet doors.
Choose Your IKEA Cabinet Doors
With measurements in hand, explore IKEA’s range of cabinet doors. Whether you prefer the sleek finish of the BODBYN series or the rustic charm of the GRIMSLOV series, IKEA offers a plethora of choices. Consider the overall aesthetic of your home when making your selection to ensure a cohesive look.
The Retrofit Process
Gather Your Tools and Materials
For this DIY project, you will need:
A screwdriver or drill
A measuring tape
Level
Hinges (often included with IKEA doors)
New handles or knobs (optional)
Remove Old Doors and Hardware
Start by removing the old cabinet doors and any existing hardware. This step may require a screwdriver or drill. Carefully unscrew the hinges and set aside the old doors.
Install New Hinges
Attach the new hinges to your IKEA cabinet doors. Most IKEA doors come with pre-drilled holes for hinges, making this step easier. Follow the instructions provided by IKEA for precise hinge placement.
Hang the New Doors
With the hinges attached, it’s time to hang your new doors. Align the doors with your cabinet frames and screw the hinges into place. Use a level to ensure that the doors are straight and properly aligned.
Add Handles or Knobs
If you’re replacing the handles or knobs, now is the time to install them. Measure and mark the positions before drilling any holes. This final touch can significantly enhance the overall look of your cabinets.
Enhancing Your Home Design
Complement with Matching Accessories
To complete your cabinet retrofit, consider adding matching accessories such as drawer fronts, panels, and mouldings. IKEA offers a range of products that can help you achieve a seamless look.
Create a Cohesive Look
For a cohesive home design, match your new cabinet doors with other elements in the room. For instance, if you choose white cabinet doors, complement them with white or neutral-colored countertops and backsplashes.
Lighting Matters
Proper lighting can make a huge difference in showcasing your new cabinets. Under-cabinet lighting, for instance, can highlight the details of your cabinet doors and create a warm, inviting ambiance in the room.
Maintenance Tips
To keep your IKEA cabinet doors looking their best, regular maintenance is key. Here are some simple tips:
Clean the doors with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent.
Avoid using abrasive cleaners that can damage the finish.
Periodically check and tighten the hinges to ensure the doors remain properly aligned.
Tumblr media
An IKEA cabinet retrofit is a fantastic way to rejuvenate your home design affordably and stylishly. With a wide range of designs and easy installation, IKEA cabinet doors provide a versatile solution that suits any home decor. By following the steps outlined above, you can transform your kitchen or living space into a modern, aesthetically pleasing area that reflects your personal style. Embrace the beauty of IKEA cabinet doors and enjoy the compliments from friends and family as they admire your stunning new look.

The Ultimate Guide to Selecting the Perfect Door Stops for Your Space
Tumblr media
Doors serve a crucial role beyond mere passage; they define boundaries, ensure privacy, and maintain security in our homes and workplaces. Yet, the lack of proper support can lead to inconveniences like doors slamming shut or causing damage to walls and furniture. Whether it's the weighty entrance door welcoming guests or an interior door leading to a cozy living area, choosing the right door stopper security bar is vital for seamless operation and safety.
Understanding the Importance of Door Stops:
Before delving into the various types of door stops, it's essential to grasp their significance. Door stops serve multiple purposes:
Preventing Damage:
Doors swinging open unchecked can cause harm to walls, furniture, and the doors themselves. Door stops absorb the force, preventing dents and scratches on surfaces upon impact.
Enhancing Safety:
Unsecured doors have a tendency to close abruptly, posing a risk of injury, particularly to children and pets. Door stops mitigate this risk by keeping doors securely in place.
Improving Accessibility:
By keeping doors partially open, door stops facilitate movement between rooms, especially in high-traffic areas.
Exploring Various Types of Door Stops:
Floor Door Stops:
These stops, typically made of rubber, metal, or plastic, are installed directly on the floor using screws or adhesive backing. Key advantages include:
Stability: Floor door stops are securely fixed to the floor, preventing unintentional door movements.
Durability: Designed to withstand heavy doors, they offer reliable support.
Versatility: Suitable for various flooring types, including concrete, hardwood, tile, and carpet.
Baseboard Door Stops:
Installed on baseboards or skirting boards at the bottom of doors, these stops come in different designs, including rigid stoppers and spring-loaded systems. Benefits include:
Space-saving: Baseboard door stops blend seamlessly with room decor, occupying minimal space.
Easy Installation: Typically installed with screws, they are easy to set up with basic tools.
Protection: Prevents doors from sliding into walls, safeguarding baseboards from damage.
Wall Door Stops:
These stops are mounted on the wall behind the door, preventing it from touching the wall. Features include:
Subtle Design: Wall-mounted stops are discreet and do not disrupt room aesthetics.
Adjustable: Utilizing screws or adjustable springs, stopping distance can be modified according to preference.
Wide Compatibility: Suitable for various door types, including cabinet doors, interior doors, and exterior doors.
Hinge Door Stops:
Unlike other types, hinge door stops attach to the door hinge, allowing partial closure. This is why hinge door stops are a good idea:
Space Efficiency: Since they connect to the hinge, these stops do not protrude into the room, making them ideal for small spaces.
Seamless Integration: Invisible when the door is closed, maintaining the overall neatness of the space.
Easy Adjustment: Many hinge door stops come with adjustable settings for customized door opening distance.
Choosing the Right Door Stops:
Consider the following factors when selecting door stops for your space:
Door Size and Weight:
Ensure the door stops are sturdy enough to prevent doors from falling or moving.
Clearance:
Assess the space around the door to determine the suitable type of stop: floor, baseboard, wall, or hinge-mounted.
Aesthetic Appeal:
Opt for door stops that complement your decor and architectural style, ensuring a cohesive look.
Installation:
Evaluate the ease of installation and consider whether you need a permanent or removable solution.
In Conclusion:
While door stops may seem insignificant, they play a crucial role in the functionality and longevity of doors. By selecting and installing the right type of door stops, you can prevent damage, enhance safety, and improve accessibility in your home or workplace. Choose wisely to protect your entryways and enhance the overall appeal of your space.
