Reading a book about slavery in the middle-ages, and as the author sorts through different source materials from different eras, I am starting to understand why so many completely fantastical accounts of "faraway lands" went without as much as a shrug. The world is such a weird place that you can either refuse to believe any of it or just go "yeah that might as well happen" and carry on with your day.

There was this 10th century arab traveller who wrote into an account that the fine trade furs come from a land where the night only lasts one hour in the summer and the sun doesn't rise at all in the winter, people use dogs to travel, and where children have white hair. I don't think I'd believe something like that either if I didn't live here.

I feel like the fears are a lot more interconected in protocol,for example in 33 there is clearly the influence of what would have bean the stranger and the vast but they are a lot more colaborative,there is no direct oposition like in magnus,it seems that what brought the fears to this world also unified them more than their original shape in the magnus universe.

Are there any stories you read that influenced you to start writing your own?

Are there any characters you find it difficult to write?

I think everyone has their own opinion on what the best story the fandom has produced is. What do you think it is?

Does it feel strange to have come into the horse fic writing game so late? Especially with so many big authors already so popular.

Drawing on that previous question. How have the other writers in the fandom been towards you? Have you found the community welcoming?

1 - Not fanfiction, no, I was more influenced on media as a whole! And originally I started writing fanfic before I started actually reading it.

2 - Not in an actual writing sense, but fluttershy and rainbow dash dont rly mesh with my kind of stories usually. I usually write large stories with emotional resonance and lots of drama and action and romance, and characters like Fluttershy and Rainbow are harder to motivate for narratives like these, considering how chill and laid back they tend to me. I find it easier to push the others into drastic situations. 3 - I can't say yet, i've only read a few, and although I've enjoyed plenty, I've never had one to truly engross me and make me think "oh yeah, this is the peak. It cant get better than this" yet. Maybe its bc I write what I want and dont see as many stories like mine out there? Again, large adventures with lots of personal drama and romance all interconected with the same themes and narratives coupled with incredible payoffs. I've seen good dramas and good action and good romance, but rarely all in the same fic! (I have seen some incredible comedy fics tho.)

4 - Not really! I am really glad bronies arent around anymore, i did not want to deal with them, tbh. I will say though, now that the fandom is more chill and lowkey and mostly inhabited by gay people, there's no chance that I'll ever get one of my fics to have like. big audio dramas and comics made for them, no matter how good they are or appreciated they are.

It is definitely a shame when I see an incredibly popular fic and its like. Trashy, not even that interesting and bland, and I think damn. Were i in the fandom back then, could I dethrone this? The answer is no because I will never be famous lmao.

5 - Any writers I've met have been incredibly kind and supporting and fun! it's been a delight to meen peeps working on similar projects like mine and having the chance to discuss our crazy ideas, hehh. It is definitely a bit sadly a not very broad space, since for the people that are fans of this show, not many write or even read. Then you see people going "I never watched equestria girls bc it was teenage stuff" over you know, the children stuff, and I just scratch my head lmao. The writing part of the fandom is definitely a very small one compared to the rest, but there's good stuff in there.

It is def a bit disheartening at times, writing is smth that you put a LOT of effort to make coherent and fun, and sometimes peeps barely read it. it is what it is! i've got close friends that dont read my writing bc they cant focus enough to read or find time, it happens.

anyway lore:

I imagine the blood mold would have five growth stages.

dormant spore. Its just a small dark red growth, looking vaguley like a seastar with too many arms. its very unoticeble in this stage and only syphons a minimal amount of energy from its host.

young mould. It progresses to this stage if its either attached to a optimal host species or a dormant spore attached to a suboptimal host species detects its host being invaded by another parasite. It gains basic sentience during this stage and acts agressivley towards any potential treats.

adolecent growth. As it grows it splits into many interconected pieces, each having its own set of eyes and operating on a kind of hivemind if disconected from the original pice. at this stage it tends to focus on the habits and behaviors of its host species, adapting as well as it can to its host body structure and abilitys, integrading as smoothly as possible. If attached to a more inteligend species, it tends to get sassy at this point, it also starts picking up on its hosts emotions, wich can overwhelm it at times.

adult colonie. A large growth fully encompassing the space provided by the host species, this is generally as big as it can get if attached to a suboptimal host. It has now fully adapted to its hosts body and can make the best use of it when it comes to defending itself. it syphons as much energy from its host as it is able to do without causing harm, as well as begining to use photo- and chemosynthesis to produce and store extra energie wherever it can, both to sustain itself and its host if nesessary. it mellows out quite abit at this stage, leaving more of the general movement and activities up to its host, as well as exhibiting some of their personallity trates.

Mother colonie. A large colonie grown beond what its host can support. At this point the blood mold gives up its own live in favor of turning into a ticking time bomb, any energie stored is used to produce as many spores as possible before the mother colonie bursts, hurteling its contents into the atmosphere. if sutible hosts are nearby small pieces of the mother colonie may latch onto them and persist. it can not reach this stage if attached to a suboptimal host species.

I imagine it originating from a mostly organic planet and having adapted to infect cybernetic species later on, leaving cybertronians like ratchet as the aformentioned suboptimal host species.

It would adapt to the cybertronian ability to transform by ceperating the outer armor from the internals, leaving the mold as the only conection point, and creating a cell type that can harden on command. this would not inhibit the cybertronians ability to transform, but would allow the blood mold to open up the armor and expand in size along the transformation seams, protecting any newly exposes inner circutry with a thick layer of hardened gel, while streching out the limps and creating more spaces to observe and lash out from. its very sturdy like this and can use its stored energy to rapidly regrow lost tissue.

I think it would most likley remain compliant with optimus up until it reaches the adult colonie stage, at wich point it would pick up on ratchets personallity and become defiant. it now packs enough of a punch to hold its own against optimus and bumblebee, provided it has stored enough energie to shrug off any damage dealt to it.

Though i could also see it get hit with ratchets fear and worrie during the adolecent growth stage and decide that optimus is too much of a threat to remain around, instead taking its chances at fighting the smaller bumblebee after making a run for it.

i could also see it forefitting its control over ratchet entirely, in favor of hiding so its host could be accepted by a more protective force such as megatron and his army. this has great angst potential when sooner or later somebody finds out.

i also love the way you made it speak. it would absolutley only comunicate in broken statements and incomplete scentences. also alot of hissing in displeasure. it would be completley apathetic to anything that doesnt concern its host or the rival parasite species. but it would absolutley try to compfort ratchet once it can sense his emotions, stress isn´t good for its host after all.

I love the idea of the blood mold as a whole. I have a thousand and one ways this could be incorporated into the Pretender au. Such a fun concept, especially when pitted against its arguably more successful counterparts.

i generally dont have much of a chance to shape and decorate my life according to my aesthetic. there a re people who have the time, the money or the will to really make sure that the things that surround them and the clothes they wear and the habitat they live in reflect who they are, are harmonious and in accordance to their tastes. i dont have that luxury. all the clothes i own are second hand so i have to make sure i convey who i am with the fashion choices of others. the furniture i own is also second hand. i was never able to pain my house any particular color of my choosing or to tend to my garden with the flowers that i wanted or to pick the designs in my mugs or my lamps or anything like that.

but there is one big exception to this and this is my current bicycle.

now, i want to make it clear, im not a hippie or a degrowther or a RETVRN kind of person, quite the opposite. but there is a part of me that does romanticize a bit the concept of old timey simple sensible solutions that are more practical than modern developments with their overreliance on interconected systems and their higher need for resources and their complicated systems. and my bicycle is like the perfect example of that.

it is an actual antiquity that i found, restored, on an ancient bicycle store from the mid 20th century that was around the corner of my old apartment. i mainly bought it because it was cheaper than the newer models they had in display, so that is one point in its favor from the get go.

the second point it scores is that its functional. its a bicycle. you sit on it, you pedal and it takes you where you want to go faster than walking. it doesnt have gears or a super ergonomic seat design or a carbon fiber frame or any other bells and whistles, is just a simple machine that you propel with your legs and it goes. i dont need anything but that. it goes fast enough that i can be anywhere in my small city in 30 minutes or less.

the third big point is that despite being old it is perfectly compatible with modern parts. if the wheels break i can replace them with modern wheels, same with the seat, same with the breaks, same with the chain. there are no backwards compatibility issues, its just good simple engineering.

and fourthly, it looks beautiful, it has like a little metal plaque where it has its brand engraved, it has a little old timey lantern on the front, the handles looks elegant and chrome. it has all the aesthetic sensibilities that made mechanisms made in the mid 20th century so pretty to look at, as opposed to modern tech where everything looks like a black box with led lights or a white blob.

it also has all the other advantages that all bicycles have like not contaminating and helping me do excercise.

so yeah, my bicycle is the one object in my life that truly reflects all my values and my identity, in terms of ethics, aesthetics and function. and its something i bought my self with my own money, not something that i inherited or was passed down to me. there is something really special in that

I don't know how i feel about the tundra area... It was tiny with lots of dead ends and very similar to aether ridge. I couldn't even find a rift to a new area.

Aether Ridge though... I love it. I fell to my death a million times, but i love it inmensely.

My biggest gripe with the dlc so far is that the regions feel too linear. I know it's partially because they're no longer interconected and you need to find the rifts to advance, but i was expecting more secondary paths to get to places. Coral Caves and the area with the million containers are the only ones so far that feel much closer to the OG game.

Still having a blast though. That Echo is a little shit and ti's thrown me again into hell. (Rotted area). The game has WARNED me about not sleeping and I am Afraid.

Personally, I'm a huge sucker for cya and have itysg as a second(however, if we decide to count your other fics then... itysg would be third while your smile makes me smile would be second). I think it's the amount of world building that makes it so interesting for me along with the fact that it takes place before the archon war. Like, there hardly passes a day where cya doesn't just... scoot right over into my thoughts making it kinda hard to reread cause it know it so well </3.

I am sad to say that I haven't checked out BitA yet. When I first saw it while looking for some other fic of yours to read, I didn't really like apocalypse stories much. I might check it out though cause I'm a lot more open to those kinds of stories now. I also remember starting every good intention, but I don't remember why I stopped... I think I had to get off my phone for a bit and just... forgot to continue? Idk I really should check those two...

You really get me Sprinkles- those murder mystery fics are so good! I remember reading one of genshin that was also mixed with a time loop and I just ate it up-(it was sadly discontinued and then deleted from ao3, but not before I managed to download it for future offline reading-) I'm honestly interested in those wriolette ones you mentionned, may I have a few recs if you don't mind? A Match Made in France by oooohscar - not a murder mystery per se but it does contain mystery investigations. it's basically furina trying to matchmake neuvillette and wriothesley and she quickly discovers they work well as investigation partners? and so she starts trying to get them to investigate things together, but then shit gets out of hand. it's so fucking good and so fucking funny. like it's pre-reveal furina but i can forgive the mild ooc and- y'know, furina portrayal pre-trauma-reveal (?) just because it's so well written and hilarious (and also she's not portrayed entirely as a brat, i find her more absurdly histrionic than anything). also it's not just furina pov, it switches between all of them. it's incomplete but updating, and absolutely worth a read

The Gambler's Debt by Marsrevale - much more serious than the one above, this one is a murder mystery through and through. the mystery is still only starting, so it probably has a long way to go, but i'm patient so i'll keep up. it's basically neuvillette and clorinde going to investigate a series of murders in the fortress of meropide (this is a sort of modern au so meropide is a gambling house / hotel i think) and wriothesley is the main suspect, but there's also stuff going on between neuvillette and wriothesley bc they knew each other long ago but only wriothesley recognizes him. idk how else to describe it, it's really intriguing so far, i hope the mystery pans out nicely

Hold my hand, never let me go by Jinnmi - also a proper murder mystery, this one is about what is essentially a branch of fontaine's police force for criminal investigation led by wriothesley and the many interconected cases they have to solve. neuvillette is sent as a consultant to keep an eye on them, but ends up basically joining the team as they all try to solve a big case that seems to threaten the country whole and is also somehow connected to wriothesley's past. this one is very good, the murders might be a bit too gruesome for sensitive people? but still, really nice. i love the unsettling vibe of whatever the one behind this all is planning, the suspense is also really good. still updating and i rush to it every time a new chapter comes out, it had me in a chokehold when i first found it.

I don't know how I feel about it, on one hand I liked that the first book was entirely on Lyra's world, it made the jump at the end much more exciting. But we'll see how they handle it.

I want to cry for Roger already. Lyra is breaking my heart too, Jesus.

Ruth Wilson is fantastic as Ms. Coulter. Charming but eerie and intimidating and absolute psycotic.

I love how they made Pan, he looks adorable.

Loving the visuals and the way is shot. I like how they interconect all the storylines amd make it feel like a big puzzle being laid for us an slowly connecting, I love that. They don't over explain but the story flows and is easy to understand.

Sometimes I find the magical girl fandom, especially online, to be very...sorta gatekeep-y when it comes to magical girl shows. Mainly the types who call Madoka Magica a torture porn or something, and basically reject anything similar. Which I personally think is unfair.

I'm mainly saying this in relation to "Looking Up to Magical Girls" which is, quite frankly, borderline hentai. But the thing is, those kind of parody shows have always existed. It's only in the age of season anime and online interconectivity that it gets as much attention as it does.

I hate the kind of people who go "this MAGICAL GIRL show has a DARK TWIST!!!!!!!" but I don't think those kind of people should completely outcast those shows.
