Somewhere in the world right now, this minute, is a young man who will one day play my beloved Lestat de Lioncourt in our TV series. I wonder what that young man is doing.
Is he reading a book tonight, or watching a film? Is he out dancing at a club? Is he studying for an exam, or perhaps acting in a stage play in Los Angeles or Chicago? Is he on the set of a film, waiting for his time on camera? Maybe he's driving on a narrow highway alone from London to Manchester; or through the traffic of Berlin or St.Petersburg or Brussels. He may have the car radio on, or be musing in silence. Perhaps he's playing the violin in an orchestra, or tap dancing on a Broadway stage.
Is his hair already long, to his shoulders? Is he a snappy dresser? I wonder if he is in love. Has he read any of the Vampire Chronicles?
I hope his parents are proud of him for his talent. I hope he is happy. What kind of wine does he like?
What did he have for dinner? Wherever he is, I'm thinking of him. I'm wishing him well. I'm wishing good things for him. Stay safe, young man. We're coming for you. We love you. We want you.
- Anne Rice, in a post on The Vampire Chronicles Facebook page.

I wish she got to see her beloved Lestat come to life so beautifully through Sam Reid. To me, there is no Lestat but him.

'I look in the mirror'

We wrote with two guitars, John and I. And, as I’ve mentioned previously, the joy of that was that I was left-handed while he was right handed, so I was looking in a mirror and he was looking in a mirror. We would always tune up, have a ciggie, drink a cup of tea, start playing some stuff, look for an idea. Normally, one or the other of us would arrive with a fragment of a song. ‘Please Please Me’ was a John idea. John liked the double meaning of ‘please’. Yeah, ‘please’ is, you know, pretty please. ‘Please have intercourse with me. So, pretty please, have intercourse with me, I beg you to have intercourse with me.’ He liked that, and I liked that he liked that. This was the kind of thing we’d see in each other, the kind of thing in which we were matched up. We were in sync.
(Paul McCartney, about Please Please Me in The Lyrics, 2021)

A lot of what we had going for us was that we were both good at noticing the stuff that just pops up, and grabbing it. And the other thing is that John and I had each other. If he was sort of stuck for a line, I could finish it. If I was stuck for somewhere to go, he could make a suggestion. We could suggest the way out of the maze to each other, which was a very handy thing to have. We inspired each other.

When John and I met, the first year of our friendship was spent talking about these cover versions, the records we loved, and then playing them again and again. As we got to know each other, we practised these various covers until one day the conversation went, ‘You know, I’ve written one or two songs.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, so have I.’ That gave us something in common that was itself wholly uncommon. I went to a school of a thousand boys and I’d never met anyone who said he’d written a song. Mine were just in my head. So were John’s. We took each other by surprise. And then the logical extension was, ‘Well, maybe we could write one together.’ So that’s how we started. And we became versions of each other.

Q: "Can I ask you about Lewis Carroll?" A: "Oh, Lewis Carroll. I always admit to that because I love 'Alice In Wonderland' and 'Alice Through The Looking Glass.' But I didn't even know he'd written anything else. I was that ignorant. I just happened to get those for birthday presents as a child and liked them. And I usually read those two about once a year, because I still like them."

I think of the imagined world of Lewis Carroll [Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There] that John and I both loved so much.
(Paul McCartney, about I’ll Get You in The Lyrics, 2021)
We’d been together so much that if you had a question, we would both pretty much come up with the same answer. [about their hitchhike to Spain by way of Paris] <…> It’s a bit crude, but it’s fair to say that, in general, I’d had a good life and John hadn’t. His life had been tougher, and he had to develop a harder shell than I did. He was quite a cynical guy but, as they say, with a heart of gold. A big softy, but his shield was hard. So that was very good for the two of us. Opposites attract. I could calm him down, and he could fire me up. We could see things in each other that the other needed to be complete.
(Paul McCartney about Ticket To Ride in The Lyrics, 2021)

Sometimes I look in the mirror Is nobody there? But I just keep on staring and staring No Can it be? Can it be? Can it be? And if I look in the mirror And nobody´s there But I just keep on staring, and staring No Is it me? Is it me? Is it me?
(John Lennon, circa 1977)

The building had been crawling with gentle humans who noticed not a thing as they’d stolen the clothes they now wore, uniforms of the young, and left by a broken door into an alley. Not my brothers and sisters anymore. — QUEEN OF THE DAMNED

the iwtv fandom is always having the discussion of who of the established characters would actually stick up to marius when he returns to abuse armand again and what’s really fucked up is the only real answer is claudia. there’s louis (historically not very sensitive when it comes to armand’s “daddy vampire” and armand’s biggest hater atm), lestat (victim blamer who wants to fuck marius) and daniel (who basically implied armand lied about the entire thing). but then there’s claudia, who because of their shared experiences with white supremacy, class, sexual assault, orphanhood, sexually violent and abusive makerdads, and a lack of a true “home” to stake a claim to (“dad didn’t want me”) she’s on an infinitely more even emotional playing field with armand than anyone else in the show. there’s no major gap in understanding like is present with all of armand’s other relationships, whether it’s the french aristocrat or the former pimp. the only one who really got him, saw right through him, was and remains claudia. it would be her sticking up to marius, if she were still around. if armand did not doom the only person he’s met in hundreds of years that understands him. but the brutal truth is that it is exactly because of this shared understanding that armand could not tolerate her existence; in dooming her, in insisting upon the death of all too similar to him, he dooms himself.

I’m obsessed with Sam Reid’s acting choices in the loustat reunion scene. Every time I rewatch it, I notice the differences in the way he talks, the facial expressions we’ve never seen, the mannerisms that are new. He’s not exactly what we thought he was, but he’s still definitely Lestat, and there’s something really compelling about that. Even Louis is a little different with him- they are very familiar with each other despite the time apart. And I’m sure we’ll see shades of their s1 selves- I’m sure Lestat will veer into that anger and menace sometimes, or into the manic, emotional mess we see in the s3 teaser- but I think there’s going to be some new things to get used to when we see him next season.
