Opp and Nutt had like five minutes of screen time together in SCOY as Intouch and Daisy and to this day, they still like every single one of each others Instagram posts. Opp is even a T/K-Pop group now but they still follow each other and regularly like each others posts. I adore them. The ship is a tiny boat but damn it it’s still sailing! I know it’s prolly never gonna happen but I would watch the fuck out of a series with them as the leads.

i'm not satisfied with that Daisy-Intouch scene: it's very short. Daisy has been going through this for 3 episodes, and they haven't had a conversation about it? not only that, but just with two sentences she's back to being herself like it wasn't such a big issue for her? it felt rushed to me...

Touch calls Daisy “nu” it means mouse and they translate it “little one” is that that the sweetest thing you ever heard??

Nu not Nong? Is that same word Nuea uses for Toh? Because at some point the subs were saying he was calling Toh "Little One" too.

Also Idk why I find it absolutely adorable. Like from what I gather Touch is the oldest character in these friends groups and even still it's only a couple years difference and Nuea and Toh are only like a year apart so why is it so cute? IDK but I love it.

thank you for the post about touch/daisy linguistics! when i saw the t/n i didn't really understand it so this really helps. i have a question about what pronouns to use in english when referring to daisy though: initially i was using he/him because i was going based of the subs that didn't indicate (before today) any other pronouns or gender, but today in the t/n they used she/her pronouns for daisy, and i've noticed some fans use she/her as well. Do you have any thoughts on this?

I noticed that too. It's the 3rd gender (language and concept) to binary culture translation issue.

In Thai, most of the time (especially in BL) gender is carried with particle (krap/kha, and as discussed in previous post ja, ha) not pronoun. (It can be pronoun, but that's becoming more and more rare, actually. It feels like pom is the only one left in common parlance. Even chan has been co-opted, I almost never hear kao/ter in their him/her forms now.)

So...

I have a very dear nonbinary friend who is like this, only in English. And I am terribly grateful to this individual because the solution is...

no pronouns.

You'll notice that's how I posted about Daisy in that post. Instead of assigning Daisy pronouns, I just used Daisy's name all the time.

I know it reads odd in English, but name use and self reference in other languages is SO common, that I've decided just to train myself to do it when talking about Thai shows in particular. 

Now, a note about subbers.

ESL is generally taught WITHOUT they/them pronouns. Which means while native English speakers have made a generational jump in common parlance to using them/they pronouns in direct address for singular individuals over the last decade (yes yes its been in use before that, I am well aware of the history of the singular they, I'm talking statistical tilt here) ESL as NOT. When English is taught, it's still not taught with they/them as a viable option.

This has to change. And it will. In places like Thailand it will actually be easier for new students to understand, because of the existence of 3rd gender in Thai society, and the innate flexibility of their own pronouns (like rao can be both I & we, ter can be both you & she, etc...) But that's a different rant.

Often subbers, especially for Thai shows, are ESL, therefore they just don't know we have they/them on option. Or they are afraid they will misapply it.

In this particular instance if I had to choose pronouns for Daisy I would choose they/them, but no pronouns at all is also an option. And since I like the practice, that's the one I personally took.

LOVED ep. 13 and I'm about to rewatch because I paused like 1498238492 times BUT! wtf was that TouchxDaisy scene??? not only we don't get a proper in-scene conversation about what happened on ep.11 (?) but it seems like their relationship is where they left it the last time we saw them together??? like I see no change in the way they talked to each other...seeing how the show has treated the other couples, I want to think I'm wrong but I'm afraid with only two episodes left that they're going to rush their storyline to a happy cutesy ending without that much screentime...
