A lot of minks tend to follow the stereotypical favorite foods of the animal they're based on. You got your carrots with your Carrot, your bananas with the gorilla minks. Pretty straightforward.

But then you have Nekomamushi who has two favorite foods. Kamaboko, a main oden ingredient, and even more than that, lasagna.

Out of universe it's an obvious Garfield reference, but in-universe Neko never would have been exposed to lasagna growing up in Wano. He might have developed a fondness for it when he and Inu got back to Zou, but I like to think Neko fell in love with lasagna while sailing with the Whitebeard Pirates.

Matter of fact, I think Crocodile introduced him to it bc it's full of tomatoes which are his own favorite food. 🍅

“What’s this?” The little cat mink asked, even as he was taking the lip of the plate in both paws.

“Lasagna. Pretty famous dish from the North Blue.” Crocodile answered. He always had answers for the mink children. They were fluffy and cute.

“What’s in it?” Nekomamushi asks again, sectioning off a bite with the edge of his fork.

“Pasta sheets layered with ricotta and a beefy tomato sauce, a little bit of egg to bind. You top it with some shredded mozzarella and bake it until it’s nice and melty.” He rattled it off just how he recalls hearing the ship’s cook do to little Thatch.

“That’s sounds good…” a bite, a beat of silence, and those little slit pupils blew wide like inky saucers.

“Goro-nya!!!” The cat mink squealed, tail curling in a tight hook of delight as he all but dove into his meal

A sunny grin about as sharp and toothy as Neko’s spread across Crocodile’s face, and he tucked into his own plate.

The cat was cute. The dog was cute, too, but he was fonder of Marco’s company. Something about him smelling a tad bit fishy. Like literally. Oh well.

A quick round up of the Wano cover arc and the new Daimyo.

We have Denjiro in Kibi.

Followed by Inuarashi in Kuri.

And Raizo in Udon.

Hakumai is the next region on the route, which in the context of the covers, is most notable for being where Yasuie's sword will be delivered, and in the past, where Oden's former retainers, sans the lovely Kiku, attempted to steal from Yasu.

That trend of Kiku being uninvolved during scenes about Yasu, while the rest of the group are, continues with Kiku being the only one of the group to be in a place where Yasu's execution is not able to be seen, either in person or from the broadcast. All that is to say, Kiku appearing in Hakumai on a cover feels unlikely.

Once Hakumai has been visited, we have Ringo up next, where I hope to see Kawamatsu appear alongside Onimaru. For no other reason than they are a good and wholesome duo with a lot of history. And perhaps for the sake of learning a bit of the history of the Shimotsuki clan.
