do muslims have a concept of a messiah?

Jesus the Prophet (a) (or Eisa) is referred to as the Messiah in the Qur'an, but the way Muslims define the word "al-Masih" is completely different from that of the Jewish terminology, and especially the Christian one.

For starters, Muslims don't care whether Jesus the Prophet (a) was a descendant of the House of David or that he fulfilled or will fulfill any of the prophecies outlined by the Tanakh. Christians usually the term Messiah to refer to the Son of God, the third of three, the Divine God who will establish His thousand-year reign on Earth. According to hadiths, Jesus the Prophet (a) will descend to Earth, smite the False Messiah and continue his prophethood. Once the Anti-Christ has been vanquished, Jesus the Prophet (a) will live his life, have offsprings and die naturally. So the term Messiah is a title bestowed upon him to differentiate himself from the eschatological figure known as al-Dajjal (=False Messiah).

Muslims don't put any weight on the Messiah as opposed to the figure known as the Mahdi. The Mahdi is a messianic figure who will appear at the end of time to reestablish the line of the Prophet and rid Islam off of its falsehoods and schisms. The Shi'a Muslims in particular emphasise the importance of the Mahdi (atfs), who in some traditions already appeared but remains in occultation, living and observing the world. Twelver Shi'as and Sunnis believe he will return at the end of days with Jesus the Prophet (a).

Did Mohammed actually intend for his cult to outlive him by hundreds of years? If so, did he think he was putting a force of good in the world?

He thought the end of the world was coming.

The whole "final prophet" thing was not like "the final VHS recorder." Muhammad's claim was that he was the final prophet before Judgment Day, aka the Last Hour. Islamic mythology insists that only "Allah" knows when that will be, but like Jesus, Muhammad was completely certain that it would happen within the lifetimes of at least some of his followers. Anas reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: I and the Last Hour have been sent like this and (he while doing it) joined the forefinger with the middle finger.

Anas reported that a person asked Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as to when the Last Hour would come. He had in his presence a young boy of the Ansar who was called Muhammad. Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: If this young boy lives, he may not grow very old till (he would see) the Last Hour coming to you.

Muslims will always insist that "Allah" is eternal, timeless, etc, therefore time to him is different than time to us. Therefore, 1400 years could still be "soon." Except that a higher, eternal, timeless creature would experience every moment of time simultaneously. We perceive length, breadth and depth of everything around us simultaneously, but only one moment in time. So "Allah" should perceive time the same way we perceive everything between us and the horizon. So, this apologetic makes no sense.

Besides, Muhammad wasn't eternal or timeless, and he did plenty of describing of how soon it would happen. And why would "Allah" give warnings based on his own perception of time, not human perception? If "soon" to "Allah" is anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 billion years, what's the point basing a prophecy, a warning for humans, on Allah-time?

I don't know that he thought he was putting a force of "good" out into the world. Rather, he thought he was preparing the world for the end, by any means necessary. This is evident by the inordinate number of ayahs warning people about pagans, Xians, non-believers, everyone who isn't a Muslim, and particularly Jews. They're the worst people, so don't have anything to do with them, because Allah won't like it. At bottom, "bEcOz jUdGmEnT dAy" is pretty much the justification for everything in Islam.

Like Xians, Muslims are looking forward to the end of the world, when the Dajjal (false prophet, i.e. Antichrist) comes, and Isa (Jesus) returns to destroy all religion except for Islam, and condemn the non-Muslims. Almost as much as they're looking forward to the Caliphate rising, when they'll murder all their non-Muslim neighbors and band together to fight everyone to secure Islamic supremacy.

Islam's primitiveness, barbarism and complete incompatibility with modern sensibilities demonstrates to that "any day" now expectation. Islam was never supposed to last this long.

So, he was sort of spreading "good" in the same way that Islam spreads "peace" and the Borg spread "perfection" - through absolute subjugation. Which is, after all, the definition of Islam: submission.

ISIS/Taliban/Al-Qaeda (Khawarij)?

Characteristics of Kharijites currently apply to ISIS, Taliban and Al-Qaeda?

Several characteristics of Khawarij, mentioned in Hadith and prophecies of the prophet Muhammad (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) speeches of holy companions and scholars, assuredly prove that the modern terrorist organizations such as ISIS, Taliban and Al-Qaeda are Kharijites. Their forty major Characteristics are as follows:

1. They are mostly young in age (حداث الأسنان/حدثاء الأسنان/أحداث الأسنان)

As prophesized by the prophet (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam), "In the last days of this world there will appear some people among you who are young in age, immature and senseless; they will use (in their claim) the best speech of all people (i.e. the Qur'an) and they will abandon Islam as an arrow going through the game. Their belief will not go past their throats (i.e. they will have practically no belief), so wherever you meet them, kill them, for he who kills them shall get a reward on the Day of Resurrection."

This hadith has been narrated in several places of the hadith books. The Arabic words used in hadith to refer to this first characteristic are ‘أحداث الأسنان’ or ‘حدثاء الأسنان’ or ‘حداث الأسنان’; all of them have the same meaning i.e. ‘Young people’ or ‘People with new teeth’ (i.e. young in age).

Other group of scholars keeps silence over the Takfir of Khawarij. However, all of them unanimously agree that the Khawarij have nothing to do with Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah: “orthodox Muslims”.8. (From the speech of Ibn Umar (RadiAllahuAnhu), Sahih Al-Bukhari, chapter 'Killing the Khawarij and Heretics after establishin the proof against them)25. They will go out of the religion (i.e. Islam) as an arrow goes through a game's body (يمرقون من الدين كما يمرق من الرمية)

Those who kill them (kharijites), shall get a reward on the Day of Resurrection (الأجر العظيم لمن قتلهم)Those who are fighting against neo-Kharijites including ISIS, Taliban and Al-Qaeda, shall get a reward on the Day of Resurrection.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 1, Hadith 181) (Tirmidhi)30. The Khawarij hold that a Muslim becomes disbeliever due to every sin, saying “they leave the fold of faith and enter into disbelief”. (Sharhul 'Aqeedah al- Tahawiyyah page. 298)31. The Khawarij believe that the Muslims who commit major sins will live eternally in the Hellfire. (Sharhul 'Aqeedah al- Tahawiyyah page. 360)32. The Khawarij are the worst people in deriving rulings based on analogy. (Al-Milal wan Nihal 1/116)33. Some sects of Khawarij consider those who do not accept their views to be disbelievers, and then declare their blood lawful for shedding. They also allow killing women, children and the old who oppose them. (Lawaamiul Anwaar al Bahiyyah (1/86)34. One of the characteristics of khawarij is that those Muslims who are following Taqleed are a cause for disbelief and the destruction of Islamic ummah. Thus they oppose Muqallid scholars. Some of the Khawrij believe that a person who believes that the consensus (Ijma’) of the scholars is proof in Islamic Sharia is a disbeliever. They prefer illiteracy to education, claiming that the combination between religious sciences and the practical secular sciences is not possible. They use only those verses of the Qur'an that are about Wa'eed (Allaah's warning of punishment) while they avoid using the verses regarding the Wa'ad (Allaah's promise of forgiveness and mercifulness) (Al Khawarij Awwal ul Firaq fi Taarikhil Islam p. 38)38. They make rulings in haste. (Al Khawarij Awwalul Firaq fi Taarikhil Islam p. 146)39. They outwardly display the attributes of calling towards good and forbidding the evil, using Religious texts, while they dispute with and rebel against the rulers and fight against those Muslims who do not obey them. (Al Khawarij Awwal ul Firaq fi Taarikhil Islam p. 37)40. They incite teenage girls, family members, and wives, mothers and fathers to break away from their relatives and family to join their Kharijism.Ibn Kathir describes this characteristic of Khawarij:"ثم خرجوا يتسللون وحدانا ، لئلا يعلم أحد بهم فيمنعوهم من الخروج فجرجوا من بين الآباء والأمهات والأعمام والعمات وفارقوا سائر القرابات ، يعتقدون بجهلهم وقلة علمهم وعقلهم أن هذا الأمر يرضي رب الأرض والسماوات ، ولم يعلموا أنه من أكبر الكبائر والذنوب الموبقات والعظائم والخطيئات وأنه مما يزينه لهم إبليس وأنفهسم التي هي بالسوء أمارات. وقد تدارك جماعة منهم بعض أولادهم وقراباتهم وإخوانهم فردوهم و وبخوهم ، فمنهم من استمر على الاستقامة ، ومنهم من فر بعد ذالك فلحق بالخوارج فخسر إلى يوم القيامة"Translation: “Then they (Khawarij) went slipping away alone to avoid detection so that no one would be able to prevent them from leaving. They went from the midst of their fathers, mothers, uncles and aunts, leaving behind all the kith and kin. Due to their ignorance, little knowledge or understanding, they believed that it would please the Lord of Earth and Heaven, not realising that it was in fact of the greatest crimes, the most destructive sins, monstrosities and wrong doings. They did not realise that this had been made attractive to them by the devil and their own egos hell-bent on wickedness. Some people were able to salvage some of their offspring, relatives, and brethren, and return them back and rebuke them. Then, some of these remained upright while others fled afterwards and joined the Khawarij, and so became losers until the Day of Resurrection.” (Al-Bidaya wan Nihaya, v. 10, p. 581)Given the characteristics of Kharijites clearly mentioned in several Hadith, speeches of holy companions and religious scholars, as some of which referenced above, it is quite fair to describe the ‘ISIS’ and other Islamist terrorists as Kharijite terrorists. It is also worthy to note here that in several Sahih Hadith, the Prophet (Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has commanded Muslims to fight Kharijites. It is, therefore, incumbent (Wajib) upon Muslim governments and rulers to fight against

the ISIS, Taliban, Al-Qaeda and Boko Haram, in order to protect Muslims and non-Muslims and establish peace worldwide. As for Muslim scholars, they ought to perform this fight as a wajib on ideological ground, refuting their Kharijite narratives and characteristics.

What are the signs of the judgement day?

There are a lot of them anon. To prepare the ummah for this calamitous day, I will list 15 of them:

1) Women will outnumber men 50 to 1.

Women will increase in number and men will decrease in number so much so that fifty women will be looked after by one man.

Clearly the misandrist agenda has a long way to go.

2) There will be a battle between “Romans” and Muslims from Medina resulting in the Muslim conquest of Constantinople. Evidently there will be exactly 70,000 people in the Muslim army. This event triggers the Dajjal (Antichrist)’s appearance and everything that happens after that. By this point, as a later hadith will show, the Roman Empire will encompass most of the world’s population and Turkey will be part of it. Byzantium ha revenge!!!

They will then fight and a third (part) of the army would run away, whom Allah will never forgive. A third (part of the army) which would be constituted of excellent martyrs in Allah’s eye, would be killed and the third who would never be put to trial would win and they would be conquerors of Constantinople. And as they would be busy in distributing the spoils of war (amongst themselves) after hanging their swords by the olive trees, the Satan would cry: The Dajjal has taken your place among your family.

3) Ladies from a certain Arab tribe will have their asses and presumably tiddies OUT while circumambulating the Dhi-al-Khalasa, which was a Kaaba-like sanctuary near what is now the KSA-Yemen border. Also unclear how this is meant to work given that Mohammed’s men destroyed this temple and killed everyone inside of it, but oh well. Maybe Yemenis will suddenly convert to polytheism and rebuild it.

Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established till the buttocks of the women of the tribe of Daus move while going round Dhi-al-Khalasa.” Dhi-al-Khalasa was the idol of the Daus tribe which they used to worship in the Pre Islamic Period of ignorance.

People stripped during the various pre-Islamic hajjs, if you weren’t aware. I have a great solution to end the civil war in Yemen. Zaydi? Sunni? Why not come together in the worship of al-Khalasa and get an eyefull of ass?

4) People will drink a lot and have lots of sex.

5) Of course, the classic one–the sun rising in the wrong direction.

The Hour will not begin until there are ten signs: Dajjal, (False Christ), the smoke, and the rising of the sun from the west.

6) 70,000 Jews from what is now central Iran will follow the Dajjal. Perhaps they can be pen pals with the 70,000 conquerors of Istanbul. Also Iranian Jews need to start having more kids to fulfill the prophecy, y’alls population needs to like… quadruple.

The Dajjal would be followed by seventy thousand Jews of Isfahan wearing Persian shawls.

7) Some random guy from Qahtan will “drive people with his stick”.

The Last Hour would not come before a person of Qahtan comes forth driving people with his stick.

Qahtan is a tribe in Yemen. Unclear if Qahtani Guy here is just driving Yemeni people forward or “people” as a whole. Perhaps he will be the new ruler of the reborn Roman Empire. While wielding a stick.

8) The Dajjal’s traits are greatly elaborated upon. For example, if someone with a fucked-up eye ever offers you a choice between fire and water, jump in the fire, because it will really be water!

9) There will be 30 false prophets, but only one Dajjal. If you’re concerned that someone may be Dajjal, have no fear, as there is a telltale sign: he literally has the word DISBELIEVER (or kafir, rather) stamped on his forehead, and all Muslims will be able to see it.

He is blind in one eye, and your Lord is not blind in one eye. Written between his eyes is: Kafir.

I’m imagining a Dumb Future in which some SoundCloud rapper has a face tattoo with the letters k, f, and r in it and he is accused of being the Antichrist.

10) Rocks and trees will talk (except for one, which is overly friendly to Jews) and assist in the murder of The Jewz. Unclear if these are meant to be Dajjal’s Jews or just some random Jews, preceding Dajjal’s existence.

The last hour would not come unless the Muslims will fight against the Jews and the Muslims would kill them until the Jews would hide themselves behind a stone or a tree and a stone or a tree would say: Muslim, or the servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me; come and kill him; but the tree Gharqad would not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.

Perhaps these Jews are also the Turkic people mentioned in another hadith? If Yemenis can become polytheists, I don’t see why Turks can’t become Jews (and Roman Jews at that).

11) The Kaaba will be destroyed by some Ethiopian guy. Thereafter, the hajj will no longer be performed.

The Ka'ba would be destroyed by an Abyssinian having two small shanks.

12) Here’s one that I’ve always liked: we’re fulfilling my dream of reverting to Arab polytheism fam!! It’s happening! And will be accompanied by a Rapture-type thing I guess? Fine by me tbh the Muslims can all go do whatever they want while we rebuild the shrine of Allat in Taif

I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The (system) of night and day would not end until the people have taken to the worship of Lat and ‘Uzza. Then Allah would send the sweet fragrant air by which everyone who has even a mustard grain of faith in Him would die and those only would survive who would have no goodness in them. And they would revert to the religion of their forefathers.

Since we’ve already been told that Dajjal will be recognized by Muslims, I suppose this must take place after the Dajjal.

13) There will be various environmental catastrophes including landslides (with one specifically being in Yemen) and fires and such.

land-slides in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia at the end of which fire would burn forth from the Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly.

Another hadith says that a fire will either reach the Hijaz region or originate there. These two are brought up every time some mild inconvenience happens in the region, but this one is funny because there are stories from like the 650s AD in which an earthquake resulted in some fires in the Hijaz and people started freaking out, believing that the end was near. Silly people! Unless men had 50 wives each, they should’ve known there was nothing to worry about.

14) Most people on earth will be “Romans”. As Arabs used that word to refer to the Byzantine Empire, unclear if this is meant to refer to Classic Rome or Byzantine Rome. I suppose you could stretch it and allow for a Holy Roman Empire, etc, as long as the name is the same.

The Last Hour would come when the Romans would form a majority amongst people.

Again, it is not certain how this is meant to work, but someone needs to re-establish some form of the Roman Empire and conquer most of the world’s population with it, please.

15) Finally, climate change is good actually, apparently.

The Last Hour will not come before wealth becomes abundant and overflowing, so much so that a man takes Zakat out of his property and cannot find anyone to accept it from him and till the land of Arabia becomes meadows and rivers.

However, what I want to say here is thatour lecturer pointed out in his lecture the sound opinion in this regard as illustrated by the people of knowledge. In fact, the issue of Al-Mahdy is well-known and there is a great deal of Hadiths about it; there are many Mutawatir Hadiths (a Hadith reported by a significant number of narrators throughout the chain of narration, whose agreement upon a lie is impossible) concerning Al-Mahdy, (Part No. 4; Page No. 99)  which all support each other as stated by more than one scholar and clarified by our Shaykh during the lecture. However, the Hadiths are Mutawatir by meaning for the increasing number of their ways and the variety of their focal narrators (the focal narrator looks like the common dominator in mathematics for he occupies the position on which the Hadith is centered), the Companions who related these Hadiths, narrators and words. These Hadiths rightfully confirm that the matter of this promised person is well-established and his appearance is a truth. Al-Mahdy's name is Muhammad ibn `Abdullah Al-`Alawy Al-Husny from the precedents of Al-Hasan ibn `Aly ibn Abu Talib (may Allah be pleased with him). This Imam is an indication on Allah's Mercy with the Islamic nation for he will come out at the end of time and administer justice and truth and prevent injustice and oppression. Allah will raise by him the matter of goodness in the nation; spreading justice, guidance and direction among people.I have read many of the Hadiths about Al-Mahdy and therefore I approve the views of Al-Shawkany and Ibn Al-Qayyim in this regard who state that among the Hadiths concerning Al-Mahdy, there are authentic and good, and some are weak Hadiths that are supported by other Hadiths, and fabricated Hadiths. However, the Hadiths that have sound Isnad (chain of narrators) - regardless of whether they are authentic by virtue of themselves or by virtue of other Hadiths or they are good by virtue of themselves or by virtue of other Hadiths - are sufficient concerning the establishment of the matter of Al-Mahdy. Scholars of Hadith state that weak Hadiths if they support each other, will be valid to be used as evidence.However, scholars of the science of Hadith state that there are four categories of Hadith which are all accepted; authentic by virtue of itself, authentic by virtue of another Hadith, good by virtue of itself, and good by virtue of another Hadith.Those are other than the Mutawatir Hadith which is wholly accepted whether it is Mutawatir by text or by meaning. The Hadiths concerning Al-Mahdy according to this presentation are Mutawatir by meaning i.e. Different words and meanings as well as large number of chains of transmission and narrators of these Hadiths. The trusted scholars have confirmed that these Hadiths are established and Mutawatir, so they are established and accepted.Moreover, we found that some of the people of knowledge have approved many rulings by a lesser number of Hadiths. However, the truth is that the majority of scholars, even all scholars, agreed to the establishment of the matter of Al-Mahdy as being a truth and that He will come out at the end of time.There are some of the scholars who gave some irregular opinions in this regarded but their views are not considered here. As for what Al-Hafizh Isma`il ibn Kathir (may Allah confer His Mercy on him) stated in his book of the exegesis of the Qur'an in Surah Al-Ma'idah while speaking about the deputies of the people of Al-Madinah, that Al-Mahdy may be (Part No. 4; Page No. 100)  one of The Twelve Imams , this is doubtful.The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The matter of this nation will continue well-established when they are ruled by twelve caliphs who all belong to Quraysh. [1] The saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) indicates that religion at their time is established and prevailing and the truth is apparent. It is known that this prophecy was fulfilled before the end of the era of Banu Umayyah. However, during the last days of this era a great difference occurred which caused disunity and was a disaster for Muslims for they divided into two countries, one in Andalusia and one in Iraq as well as other inflictions which affected Muslims during this time as known.The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The matter of this nation will continue well-established. [2] Then, there were many great matters that helped unbalance the system of caliphate and the Islamic territory disunited into small countries with their own rulers, as is the case in the present time, even widely and apparently.To this day, Al-Mahdy has not appeared so how can one dare to say that the matter of religion will continue well-established until the coming of Al-Mahdy ? Indeed, this is rejected by fair thinking and contemplation.According to some scholars, the most proper meaning of the Hadith, The matter of this nation will continue well-established when they are ruled by twelve caliphs who all belong to Quraysh, [3] is that the Prophet (peace be upon him) intends the fourth caliphs, Mu`awiyah (may Allah be pleased with them), his son Yazid , `Abdul-Malik ibn Marwan, his four sons and `Umar ibn `Abdul-`Aziz. These are twelve caliphs.What I want to assure is that the strongest and soundest view concerning the twelve Imams is that they end with Hisham ibn `Abdul-Malik as religion in their time was established, Islam was prevailing, the truth was apparent and Jihad was in force. As for what happened after the death of Yazid of difference and disunity in the caliphate so that Marwan ruled the Levant (the region covering Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine) and Ibn Al-Zubayr ruled Al-Hijaz all of this did not harm Muslims in their religion for their religion was predominant and widespread and their enemy was subjugated in spite of the dispute that happened then it ended by paying (Part No. 4; Page No. 101)  the pledge of allegiance to `Abdul-Malik and people became united in spite of the trouble that happened at the hands of Al-Hajjaj and others.It becomes clear that the matter which the Prophet (peace be upon him) told us about has happened and ended whereas the matter of Al-Mahdy is to be during the last days (of the world) and that it has no relation to the Hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Samurah concerning the Twelve Imams .With regard to the fact that Al-Mahdy exists at the time of the descent of Jesus Christ, Ibn Kathir indicated in the Chapter of "Afflictions and Battles" that he thinks that Al-Mahdy exists at the time of the descendent of Messiah. There is a Hadith related by Al-Harith ibn Abu Usamah that refers to this for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: (Their leader is Al-Mahdy.) This Hadith is clear concerning the coinciding of the coming of Al-Mahdy and the descent of Jesus, Son of Mary as indicated by some of the narrations of Muslim and other narrations of the Hadith which are not so explicit. However, this seems more appropriate and strong but it cannot be stated as being decisive.As for the fact that Al-Mahdy comes out during the last days (of the world), this is a known matter according to Hadiths of the Prophet (peace be upon him) which are clear in this regard as mentioned previously. Indeed, the matter of the coming of Al-Mahdy is decisive according to the sayings of Imams and Scholars in this regard.With reference to Jesus, the son of Maryam (peace be upon him) and Al-Masih-ul-Dajjal (the Antichrist), their case is stronger and clearer; it is a decisive matter as well as the fact that scholars agreed to the descent of Jesus at the end of time. In a relative manner, Al-Dajjal will come out at the end of time according to Hadiths of the Prophet (peace be upon him) concerning the descending of 'Isa (peace be upon him) at the end of time which are all authentic and Mutawatir. The Hadiths state that `Isa will rule by the Shari`ah of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and kill Al-Dajjal, the Antichrist.This is true and similarly, the coming of Al-Dajjal. As for those who deny this and say that the descent of Jesus and the coming of Al-Mahdy are signs of the appearance of goodness and that Al-Dajjal, Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog) and the like, are signs of the appearance of evil, they are speaking in vain and their views are invalid and one should not trouble oneself with them since their holders have turned away from the truth and said an abominable matter that has no grounds from the Shar`, narrations about the Salaf (righteous predecessors) or even reason. In fact, one is to react to the sayings of Allah's Messenger with acceptance, belief in them (Part No. 4; Page No. 102)  and admittance. If the report from the Prophet is proved sound, then it is not permissible to contradict it with someone's opinion or Ijtihad (juristic effort to infer expert legal rulings). Allah says: But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission. [5] The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated this concerning Al-Dajjal , Al-Mahdy, and `Isa (peace be upon him). The Muslim Messiah: The Mahdi [مهدي]

This is a brief [yet not expert] insight into the Muslim/Islamic belief that an [End Time Messiah] whom the Muslims call the Mahdi [مهدي] will reemerge again from hiding to rule the world.

Many believe [falsely] that the Mahdi [مهدي] is the [Antichrist]

The Mahdi [مهدي] isn't the [Antichrist] as the Mahdi is the [Muslim Messiah], is Dajjal [al-Masīḥ ad-Dajjāl [المسيحالدجّال], he is the ["one eyed"] Antichrist [Compare this with Zechariah 11:17] whereby the Bible speaks of a judgement that will be on the [right eye] of the [Antichrist].

There are [two branches] in the Muslim faith [Shia] and [Sunni]. The Mahdi [مهدي] is expected by both the [Shia] and [Sunni] factions and traditions.

According to the branch of [Shia] Religious belief, the belief in the Mahdi [مهدي] is central to their [Religious Ideology].

The Mahdi مهدي] comes from the area and land of [Madai: Media Persia].

The Mahdi [مهدي] is [someone] who is [prophesied] to be the [redeemer] of [Islam].

SIXTEENTH MATTER

It says in a narration in connection with Jesus (Peace be upon him) killing the Dajjal: “The Dajjal will have a colossal form, he will be extraordinarily big and taller than a minaret, while Jesus (PUH) will be very small in comparison.”( Ibn Kathir, Nihayat al-Bidaya wa’l-Nihaya, i, 103-4; ‘Ala’ al-Din al-Hindi, Kanz al-‘Ummal, xiv, 330; Suyuti, al-Durr al-Manthur, v, 355; al-Hawi li’l-Fatawa, ii, 588; al-Haythami, Majma’ al-Zawa’id, viii, 244. )None knows the Unseen save God, one interpretation must be as follows: it is an allusion and sign that quantitively the spiritual community of muja\hidên who will recognize Jesus (Peace be upon him) and follow him, will be very few and small comparatively to the ‘scientific’, physical armies of the Dajjal.

SEVENTEENTH MATTER

It says in a narration: “The day the Dajjal appears all the world will hear. He will travel the world in forty days and have a wondrous ass.” ( Ibn Kathir, Nihayat al-Bidaya wa’l-Nihaya, i, 106; Ibn Abi Shayba, al-Musannaf, vii, 495-500. ) God knows best, on condition such narrations are completely sound, they miraculously predict that in the time of the Dajjal, the means of communication and travel will have so advanced that an event will be heard by all the world in a day. It will be shouted out by the radio and will be heard in east and west, and will be read about in all the newspapers. One man will travel the whole world in forty days and see the seven continents and seventy countries. These narrations thus miraculously foretold the telegraph, telephone, radio, railway, and aeroplane ten centuries before they appeared. Moreover, the Dajjal will be heard not in his capacity as the Dajjal, but as a despotic king. And his travelling everywhere will not be to occupy those places, but to create dissension and to seduce people away from the right path. His mount or ass is either a railway train, one ear and head of which is an infernal firebox, and the other ear of which is a false paradise gorgeously adorned and furnished. He sends his enemies to its fiery head, and his friends to its feasting head. Or else his mount is an awesome motor car, or a plane, or... (silence!)

EIGHTEENTH MATTER 

 There is a narration which says: “If my community advances on the straight path, it will have one day.”( Abu Da’ud, Malahim, 18; Musnad, i, 170; iv, 193. )That is, in accordance with the meaning of the verse, 

  On a day the space whereof will be [as] a thousand years of your reckoning( 32:5.)  it will have rule and splendour for a thousand years. If it does not proceed on the straight path, it will have a day of five hundred years, and will be dominant and victorious for only five hundred years. 

 God knows best, this narration is not giving news of the end of the world, but of Islam’s victorious rule and the sovereignty of the Caliphate, for miraculously, that is exactly how it turned out. For because towards the end of the ‘Abbasid Caliphate its politicians lost their sense of direction, it continued only five hundred years. But because the Umma in general did not deviate from the straight path, the Ottoman Caliphate came to its assistance and it took over the rule of the Umma, which has continued in existence for one thousand three hundred years. Then because the Ottoman politicians were unable to maintain their direction, its Caliphate survived only five hundred years (as the Caliphate), and with its demise it confirmed the Hadith’s miraculous prediction. This Hadith has been discussed in other treatises, so we curtail the discussion here.

NINTEENTH MATTER 

In the narrations are various different prophecies about the Mahdi (May God be pleased with him), who is one of the signs of the end of time and will be from the Family of the Prophet. In fact, some scholars and saints stated long ago that he had appeared.

What do you think about the signs of the end of the world ?apparently there will be a Muslim massacre or something like that

Hey anon. Yeah, various terrible things are supposed to happen in the end-times. Mohammed based the whole concept on the Christian version of events (like the Book of Revelation) and then made it even dumber than it already was. You got the general decay of society a la the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, you got the Antichrist (called the Dajjal) running around causing chaos, you got war, you got massacres. I think the one you’re thinking of is this one:

The last Hour will not come until the two parties (of Muslims) confront each other and there is a large-scale massacre amongst them.

I mean… the apocalypse should have happened in the 600s AD going by that lol…! That link has a whole bunch of fun ahadith about the end times, by the way, including classics like the dumb Jew tree and the cursed golden mountain. You’ll always find people pointing to some vague hadith about how the end will come when [general bad thing] happens and [general bad thing] is happening now!!!! The end is coming!!!!!!!!!!

However, one awkward Fun Fact About The Apocalypse is that, uhh, Mohammed was coming up with all of this shit in the early 600s AD in Arabia. Meaning the most prominent empire he knew of was Byzantium. And many of his prophecies about the end of the world involve the Byzantines, who have… not existed in hundreds of years! Whoops!

For example, the end times will not come until most people on earth are Byzantines (or “Romans” as Arabs called them, because that’s how they were known, the Eastern Roman Empire). So… before the end times, somebody gotta re-establish Byzantium, OR if you really wanna stretch the definition, at least some form of the Roman Empire. And then they have to conquer the majority of the world’s population.

More pressingly, the end of the world will not come until Muslims conquer Constantinople and overtake the city’s non-Muslim inhabitants. Arabs tried and failed to do just that in the 600s, by the way, evidently very eager to bring on the end of the world.

Constantinople was, admittedly, one of the world’s best-defended cities. It stood a long damn time, outlasting the fall of other Byzantine cities to Muslim forces, and in Mohammed’s era it must have seemed invincible. So saying “the end of the world won’t come until Muslims take Constantinople” seemed like a safe bet at the time, probably. However, as we know, today it is

and the city is almost entirely Muslim thanks to the handiwork of the Turks. HOWEVER, in a plot twist, we are told (problematically!):

The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Turks; people with small eyes, red faces, and flat noses. Their faces will look like shields coated with leather. The Hour will not be established till you fight with people whose shoes are made of hair

He meant the Asian people of the Turkic Khaganate, not the repackaged Balkans/Caucasian genetic soup of today’s Turkey, obviously. Mohammed evidently didn’t envision them converting to Islam en masse. But we still have a problem here. Arabs (the “you” in question, one assumes) have to fight Turks to bring about the Day of Judgement. Arabs/Muslims also have to conquer Constantinople, which has to be non-Muslim, in order to bring about this day.

So…. uh…. we got a few options here.

1) Some Christian force (presumably the reborn Roman/Byzantine Empire) will re-conquer Istanbul, turn it back into Constantinople, and make the city Christian again, THEN Muslim Arabs will attack the city and claim it for Islam while also attacking some poor Turkic group somewhere in Asia for unknown reasons, or

2) Turkey will not be conquered by anyone but will somehow convert itself to Christianity or some other non-Islamic faith, giving rise to a new Byzantium, which Arabs will then destroy, taking care of the Turk prophecy and the Constantinople one together, or

3) The apocalypse in fact occurred at some point in the 1400s AD, which saw both Arab vs Turk fighting and the Muslim conquest of Constantinople, and we have lived in hell since then.

The third option explains a lot tbh……….!

Narrated by al-Bukhaari (no. 7222); Muslim (no. 1821) It was narrated that Jaabir ibn Samurah said: I entered upon the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) with my father, and I heard him say: “This matter will not end until there have been among them twelve caliphs.” Then he said something that I could not hear, and I said to my father: What did he say? He said: “All of them will be from Quraysh.”

Tafseer al-Qur’an al-‘Azeem, 3/65 What this hadeeth means is giving glad tidings of the coming of twelve righteous caliphs who will support the truth and treat the people with justice. It does not necessarily mean that they will come one after another; rather four of them have already come one after another, namely the four caliphs: Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, ‘Uthmaan and ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with them). Another of them is ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Azeez, according to the leading scholars, and others are some of the Abbasids. The Hour will not begin until they have all come and the number is completed. Rasulullah (saas) said: “The world will not come to an end until a man from my Ahl al-Bayt [Hazrat Mahdi (as)] whose name is compatible with mine imposes his rule over all the Arabs.” “If just one day of the life of this world remains, Almighty Allah will prolong it and someone from my Ahl al-Bayt will come.”

Sunan Tirmidhi, 4/93 I swear to the One in Whose possession my life lies that, the son of Mary (Jesus) will soon descend among you as a just judge. He will break the cross (abolish worshipping the cross), slay the pig (declare the unlawfulness of eating pork) and lift the jizya [capitation tax]: goods will be so plentiful that none will accept any more.

Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi, Great Collection of Hadith, Rudani, v. 5, p. 380 Abu Huraira narrated, "The Prophet (saas) said: 'There is no prophet between me and him, that is, Jesus, peace be upon him. He will definitely descend (to the earth). When you see him, recognize him: a man of medium height, reddish hair, wearing two light yellow garments, looking as if water drops were falling down from his head though it will not be wet. He will fight the people for the cause of Islam, render the dajjal (antichrist) ineffective. Then he will live on the earth for forty years and then he will die. The Muslims will pray over him.'"

Sahih Muslim, 6/532 I swear to Allah Who holds my breath in His hand that Jesus, son of Maryam will descend among you as a just judge. He will break the cross and slay the pig, and he will abolish the tax on non-Muslims. Goods will be so plentiful that nobody will want any more.

Sunan Ibn Majah, 10/340 The Last Day will not take place until Jesus son of Maryam (as) descends as a just judge and imam (head of state). Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, Vol. 1, P. 99 Allah will bring out from concealment al-Mahdi from my family and just before the day of Judgment; even if only one day were to remain in the life of the world, and he will spread on this earth justice (for muslims only) and equity and will eradicate tyranny and oppression.
