I need more proshots. No more turning musicals into movies. I swear if they make a Hadestown musical movie I will scream. We don't want another Into the Woods. Please. Just give us the proshots.

Been working on this for a long long time and I finally reached a point that I'm happy with it. I hope Simmers who are also big Nintendo fans like this.
Shout-out to @tomatomagica/@sims4niya for helping me out with making certain goals and just looking over the rules in general. :)
UPDATE: Slightly changed the goals in Gen 8, please reblog this version.
General Rules:
No cheats unless otherwise stated in generation rules, needed to reset a sim, or for decoration/building purposes.
Mods are okay, provided they do not give you an unfair advantage. What constitutes an unfair advantage is up to you.
Complete each generation's Aspiration
Above all, have fun. If that means continuing onto the next generation without finishing all of the previous gen goals, that’s okay.
(Generations beyond the cut)
Generation 1 Animal Crossing:
Traits: Loves Outdoors/Outgoing/Maker
Aspiration: Curator
You have moved into a new town with nothing but the clothes on your back. Well at least Mr. Nook was nice enough to give you a new home even with the work you'll have to do to pay him off. It’ll be tough but you’ve quite the knack for building and your neighbors seem more than happy to cheer you on.
Move into an empty lot and build a small house. (Optional: Make your house a Tiny Home Residential lot and choose what tier to work with from there.)
After one day, move two single townie sims into your neighborhood and become friends with them (If one of them becomes your founder’s spouse, make a new neighbor to move into their old house.)
Neither the founder nor spouse will hold a job, they will make money via at home activities like painting, fishing, etc.
Have a room to display your collections
At the end of every sim week, use cheats or mods to remove half of your household funds (to pay off your debt to Mr. Nook) until both your sim and their spouse reach the adult stage.
~~~
Generation 2 Splatoon:
Traits: Creative/Dance Machine/Party Animal
Aspiration: Famous Celebrity
Despite your humble beginnings, you always dreamed big. You were often found drawing outfits from fashion magazines or singing along to your favorite pop idols or doing cool poses for selfies at the pool. Once you became a teen, you started taking little steps to join that glamorous world.
Become a simfluencer as a teen
Move to San Myshuno or Del Sol Valley once you become a Young Adult
Reach the top of the Style Influencer career (Trendsetter branch)
Host a party once every sim week
Either become or marry a merperson. Heir however must be just a sim.
Max out painting, dancing, and singing skills
~~~
Generation 3 Legend of Zelda:
Traits: Good/Adventurous/Music Lover
Aspiration: Jungle Explorer
Everyone expected you to become a spoiled brat but thankfully you turned out to be a good kid with a love for music and a dream of exploring far-off ancient ruins. You make a friend who supports you all the way but you also make an enemy constantly getting in your way.
Make a friend as a child or teen, become BFFs with them, and stay that way for as long as either sim lives (friend can be a future spouse)
As a child or teen become enemies with one sim and stay enemies for as long as either sim lives. Win at least five fights with them. (Optional: Have this sim be an evil sim)
Max out the Archaeology skill and one instrument skill
Complete the Ancient Omiscan Artifacts Collection
Get the “Brave” reward trait
~~~
Generation 4 Earthbound:
Traits: Goofball/Active/Geek
Aspiration: Friend of the World
Because of your parent’s travels, you never lived in one spot for too long. Despite that, you still liked making new friends and finding ways to keep in touch. And you learned to appreciate the magic in every world… figurative and literal.
Live in four different worlds before becoming a young adult
Make three friends and create a club with them (Optional: Make these friends as a child and grow up together)
Max out photography and comedy skills
Become a spellcaster as a teen and work on reaching the top rank
Complete the Postcard Collection
Adopt a dog when your first kid becomes a child
~~~
Generation 5 Pokemon:
Traits: Dog (or Cat) Lover (Animal Enthusiast)/Vegetarian/Socially Awkward
Aspiration: Friend of the Animals or Country Caretaker
Ever since you were little, you were obsessed with animals and even got along better with them than people. Your friends blame your childhood obsession with Voidcritters (even if some of them weren't really animals). When you grew up, you knew you were going to surround yourself with animals.
Complete the Voidcritters Collection
Adopt at least eight pets over your lifetime including at least one stray.
Have both cats and dogs
Open a Vet Clinic (pokemon center) and get it to five stars
Max out Veterinary and pet training skills
OR
Complete Voidcritters Collection
Adopt a fox or raccoon
Have at least one of each farm animal (chickens, cow, and llamas)
Win first place in each animal fair in Henford-On-Bagley
Learn all the animal treat recipes
~~~
Generation 6 Mario:
Heir 1 Traits: Family Oriented/Bro/Loyal
Heir 2 Traits: Squeamish/Clumsy/Bro
Heir 1 Aspiration: Nerd Brain
Heir 2 Aspiration: Mansion Baron
You and your sibling were as thick as thieves growing up and neither of you really liked the idea of one of you moving away so they stuck around. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have their own adventures.
Chose two siblings to serve as Double Heirs, they do not need to be twins
Both heirs take a part time job as Manual Laborers until one of them gets married then the married one joins the Doctor career
The other heir maxes out the Medium skill and becomes a Paranormal Investigator
Both heirs max out Handiness skill
One heir unlocks Sylvan Glade and the other unlocks Forgotten Grotto
~~~
Generation 7 Kirby:
Traits: Foodie (or Glutton)/Cheerful/Childish
Aspiration: Renaissance Sim
You grew up in a very supportive environment with family members encouraging you to try a little bit of everything. You liked helping your family cook but you also discovered a love for acting from trying so many different hats. At that point, you decided that you were gonna be a superstar!
Join Drama Club as a child or teen
Max out the Cooking, Gourmet Cooking, and acting skills
Reach the top of the Actor career
Reach pristine public image
Gain the People Person lifestyle
Once you become an elder, retire from acting and open a business selling cooked meals.
~~~
Generation 8 Metroid:
Traits: Loner/Unflirty/Noncommittal
Aspiration: Strangerville Mystery
While your parent enjoyed the spotlight, you preferred to keep to yourself with exercising and star gazing. As soon as you were able to, you moved out into your own place in a quiet out of the way town called Strangerville. However it seems your wish for a normal quiet life wasn’t meant to be.
Max out body and wellness skills
Reach the sixth level of the Astronaut career and quit after one shift.
Only take odd jobs after quitting your career
Have an alien child (feel free to cheat/mod to get an abduction or to get a female sim alien pregnant)
Gain the Techie lifestyle
Never marry
~~~
Generation 9 Pikmin:
Traits: Hot headed/Overachiever/Genius
Aspiration: Freelance Botanist
Despite your alien heritage, you adored the world you grew up in but that isn’t to say you had no interest in the stars. You enjoyed helping out at the school greenhouse along with watching for comets and UFOs on weekends. It didn’t take long before you started to wonder if there was a way to combine your love for both worlds.
Join Scouts as a child
Master gardening and rocket science skills
Visit Sixam and befriend three different colored aliens
Complete the Geode and Space rock collections
Find all three alien plants on Sixam and plant them in your garden (Do NOT buy them in Henford-On-Bagley)
~~~
Generation 10 Fire Emblem:
Traits: Bookworm/Proper/Ambitious
Aspiration: Leader of the Pack
Growing up, you admired stories of brave knights and kind heroes. While you eventually outgrew the fairy tales, you still wanted to help people like the brave hero kings and queens in the stories.Thus together with your closest friends, you decide to try to make a positive difference in the world.
If a sim dies, you cannot plead with the Grim Reaper nor can you resurrect them in any way
Max out Charisma, writing, and research & debate skills
Reach the top of the Political Career (Politician branch)
Form a club (forming an army) and eventually build up to recruiting eight members
Marry a member of your club (and if they aren’t already, have them join the military career)
Everyone in Hawkins figured it would only be a matter of time before the Hideout closed.
An old house-turned-bar with a handful of neon signs in the windows that Bev begrudgingly put up, and an old sign out by the road listing the specials of the week.
Old Style, PBR, Busch, Schlitz. All of the midwest staples.
It served as the watering hole for the blue-collar bums that had gotten off their shifts at the nearby plant for years. Little by little it lost its shine, what little of it there was, as the little industrial town became more, but it never gave up.
Now the house looked like just that...a house. With a hole in the roof, and some broken windows--whatever charm it had gone--thanks to an unexpected summer storm. And Bev decided to cut her losses instead of trying to fix it up.
Whether it would stay there or be demolished, no one knew for sure.
That was one of those midwest staples too...letting buildings and businesses and dreams die.
Wayne called when the news hit the paper.
"I know you're all big and important in Chicago now," he teased them. Their steady stream of gigs around the city and the reliable income as close to fame as a band could ask for short of a record deal. "But you might want to come back and pay your respects."
So that's what they did.
A five hour drive back to Hawkins with one rest stop along the way and a quick lunch at Wayne's...and then they were finally standing outside their old haunt.
"Always thought we'd come back here when we were famous," was said as feet shuffled on the gravel drive.
"Play one last show."
"To thank the town or something?"
"More like a big fuck you."
That got a laugh out of them, broke through the somber atmosphere.
Bev left the door unlocked; whether it was for them or because she didn't care or there wasn't anything of real value to steal, no one could be sure.
Maybe all of the above.
It was a mess inside, but it always had been a little messy.
Lived-in. That's what Eddie had told Ronnie and Dougie once upon a time, after he'd secured their first gig there.
Shit hole. That was another word for it.
Abandoned. That's what it was now. With broken bottles behind the bar and stools overturned and that little ramshackle stage made of two by fours in ruins.
"Actually, I think it always looked like that."
"God, we were lucky nobody ever broke a leg."
Eddie took a risk and jumped up on it, testing its mettle. It creaked but didn’t collapse. The old Munson Magic come to his aid for the first time ever.
He then took a bow to the meek applause of the handful of drunks that still resided in his memory. Their first crowd, their first fans.
He announced the band as he usually did, and then began playing air guitar, mouth providing the sounds the way the strings would.
Ozzy. Crazy Train. The first song the four of them covered during their first performance together at the Hideout.
Jeff joined shortly after with his own air guitar, harmonizing.
Then Dave with the bass, deep rumbles in his chest.
And finally Gareth drumming on the old bar top, a mixture of hands and fists to create variations in sound.
“I’m going off the rails on a Crazy Train!” They all sang together at the end of the pseudo performance, before breaking down in claps and laughter.
They found an old Polaroid in the back. A group shot of them with Bev, their faces blurry but hers stock still…grumpy as ever with a fondness in her eyes nonetheless.
None of them remember taking it but it exists, and it gets tucked into Jeff’s back pocket to put with the rest of their momentos. Future pieces of history that would go into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
“You’re dreaming too big now. In over your head.”
“Look where we started. We have to dream big.”
“Shoot for the moon so you land among the stars or some shit like that.”
”Alright Shakespeare.”
Before they knew it, they'd been there for hours and it was time to say goodbye. They filed out, each rapping a fist on some door or wall, a knock on wood for luck, a final farewell.
A final thank you to the Hideout.
You’ve been great.
Trying to make myself write like a monkey pilot and so random bits from worldbuilding of this fic that are only mention or not even included (this is trans Bradley fic, for people who have not read it, but some bits are universal - I'm sorry for the rambling)
Merlin has a flight school in Nevada - this is where Bradley gets his commercial pilot licence, not long after he starts medical transition. Merlin runs it with his second wife, Nandini, who was the original owner and main flight instructor. They met through Slider, who got his commercial through her school, and they got two kids and their daughter had a crush on Bradley everyone in their family holds against her any time they meet for family gatherings.
Slider, by the way, retired from the Navy the same year as Mav started on the path to become a test pilot, and got a commercial and then airline pilot licence. Mav makes fun of it constantly.
Jake and Bradley (then pre-transition) talked extensively about their future life together and in Jake's mind, it was a given they would get married and have kids eventually, they'd just wait for the right timing or until they were at certain ranks/positions. Bradley did want all of it, he just never thought/imagined how it'd actually look with him as wife/mother, only vaguely with Jake as a dad and his own image completely avoided (kinda hard to explain but it's like a very blurry picture where his own figure would be even blurrier).
Bradley still wants to get married and have kids. Once the whole wife/mom bit became husband/dad thing, he's no longer uncomfortable about the topic. He knows being pregnant would be difficult because society sucks but he's pretty sure he's at the stage of confidence when he can pull it off.
Jake's mom is the nightmare mother-in-law people joke about. For real. She is terrible to all of her kids' partners, but she is especially terrible to Bradley (pre and after transition) because Jake is her little miracle baby.
Coyote joined Jake's squadron just as Bradley left the Navy, which means he met Jake in the middle of a heartbreak and well, that's basically why he's not the biggest fan of Bradley (even if sometimes it shows in ugly ways).
Bradley and Jake also had very different mindsets about their relationship during the break-up period of six years. Bradley had been a bit in denial and tried to force himself to move quickly, thinking that ever being with Jake was impossible (or you know, a fantasy only possible in his head...). Jake up until he sees Bradley, now after transition, at the Hard Deck, thought they were like magically destinated to be together and they'd meet again at some point. He dated some girls, mostly on Coyote's insistence, but he never hit it off with any woman, liked to say he was 'ruined for life' for Bradley and never stopped believing they'd find each other again despite the years apart piling on.
Mav and Ice renewed their vows and had a second wedding after Ice went into remission. Bradley was the officiant, mostly because Ice and Mav had a massive fight about whose witness he should be.
This is implied ?? but Ice's cancer went in remission because I imagine Bradley being there and Mav being there more often because of Bradley meant Ice'd go to the doctor earlier than in canon and had better chances given it was at an earlier stage when it was found. You know, a butterfly effect and all that.
Bradley and Ice spent weeks after Bradley's top surgery playing DCS, most often in the F-14 sim with Bradley in the RIO seat, sometimes with Slider providing commentary. As stated in the fic, Slider is the one to pop the idea and install the whole thing. Ice and Mav often play while goes through his oncology treatment and Ice often uses his puppy eyes to make Mav play as the RIO (rather than have two planes and Jester AIs)
Jake has a strange view on gender, which isn't necessarily bad, but it can be disheartening to Bradley, especially at the beginning. It's almost as if he doesn't see people's gender but who the people are (kinda like similar to not seeing skin colours??) which can be great when you don't want to be perceived/treated by just gender (like Bradley pre-transition) but can be ignorant if you do (like Bradley after transition). He is also terrible with labels and doesn't really believe or use them.
(A bit nsfw/tmi ??) Bradley chose his preferred type of top surgery based on the desire to keep the sensation of his nipples (buttonhole has a higher probability of keeping the feeling), mostly because it was a really sensitive part of his body, but ended up not keeping the full sensation on one side, which is always a possible outcome with any top surgeries, and after a few more months on T realized that his chest isn't really that sensitive anymore anyway. It's probably one of the very few things he misses.
I'm absolutely ecstatic because readers picked up on it, but Jake's been so jealous of Mav the whole time the fic's been going on and it'll continue until he realizes who Mav is to Bradley actually. You can only imagine how horrified he is when he realizes how terrible of a first impression he made on Mav.
While Mav is not a fan of Jake, Ice is trying to be very neutral. Objectively, he's not the biggest fan of Jake either, mostly because he's never going to be a fan of any of his baby boy's partners, but he thinks Bradley is an adult and should be able to make his own decisions. He also knows that a lot of people would have told him Mav is no good for him and it's not true at all so he's trying to trust Bradley's judgment.
someone please make me write, i just stare at the open document and change words in already written dialogues
THEME: Revolution
This week’s games have to do with rising up against oppression and tyranny! A very important note: while the tone and tenor of the following games vary in severity, it is a good idea to use safety tools for your table when running these kinds of games, as it is easy to fall into territory that can be uncomfortable to your players. I recommend you check out tools such as the X Card, by John Stavropoulos, and Lines & Veils, by Ron Edwards.
When the Guilds Pay in Copper, Crime Pays In Gold, by Andrew J. Young.
Ostentia is a city of wealth, magic, and incredible disparity. The city's alchemy guilds hold all the power, with squads of street-level enforcers and an army of mercenaries playing the guilds off each other. The common folk are hired by the guilds to serve in alchemy rituals, draining life from their bodies, paying them their purse of coppers, and sending them home until the next day.
What the city needs is a revolution, but the best you can do is retribution. And distribution. Thwart the guilds' exploitative plots and steal as much gold as you can. And when the job is done, go back to your family, friends, and familiar haunts. Spend your gold to improve your character and use downtime to help your community.
When the Guilds Pay in Copper, Crime Pays in Gold is a two-page tabletop RPG designed to be played with 2 or more players, one of whom should take on the role of a Story Guide to facilitate scene setup and NPC actions and dialogue.When the Guilds Pay in Copper, Crime Pays in Gold's system uses dice pool mechanics with d6s.
If you’re interested in Blades in the Dark but want less pre-defined setting, less rules, and more magic, you might want to check this game out. The players of this game are fighting back against guilds using underhanded methods, but the gold they manage to steal goes into community help, rather than a retirement plan. If you want to hit the bourgeoisie where it hurts without having to read too many rules, and if you want a lighter feel to your game, you might want to check this game out.
And You Shall Shatter Temples, by Anna Landin.
They may be gods, but you are done being faithful.It's time to burn their kingdom down.
Sing songs with the words they could not take from you. Raise the banner woven from the flags you stole back from them. Arm yourself with the swords you forged from their discarded bones.
And You Shall Shatter Temples is a game about rising up against an overwhelming power that is trying to crush you. All you have is what you carry with you, and those who rise up by your side. Together, you can turn the tide. Together, you can dethrone a god.
This is a GM-less game that uses playing cards and d6s to help determine what you do and where the story goes. The main premise is that there are gods, but you get to decide what kind of world they have ruined, and how you bring them to their knees. The game brings you through three stages, with each stage bringing you closer and closer to dethroning a god. The creator offers the text-only version for free, and encourages that you support real-world causes that fight oppression instead!
Hunting Billionaires for Sport, by Vex Chat-Blanc.
It's exactly 1 year since people first started hunting billionaires for sport. In that time the sport has grown at an extraordinary rate, giving rise to both the Extrajudicial Means Distribution Union and Nero.tv. Nations around the world have enacted a total ban on firearms and ammunition sales, as well as dedicated buyback schemes for existing guns. Science and arts have seen a simultaneous market boon, and their advances have integrated seamlessly into daily life. Welcome to 2023.
A game for 1 session runner and 2-5 hunters. It's easy to pick up, simple to explain, provides a quick reference sheet for those new to the rules. It contains interesting and variable character advancement, and a progressive and gentle introduction to more advanced rules. World-building, character background, collaborative action, and character retirement are all tied together mechanically.
If you want to see a game where Billionaires’ greed is what allows for the revenge of the masses, this is the game for you. The setting is incredibly tongue-in-cheek, and the characters are both powerful and competent. Character skills are classified as either Limelight (flashy) or Lowlight (concealed), and can be Active, Passive, or Reactive. You’ll also have Beats that drive your character forward and tie you into the fiction, as celebrities on a high-profile streaming service. If you like the idea of turning modern capitalism back onto itself, this might be the game for you!
Compromise / / Empire, by Swamphen.
The forces of the Empire, the forces of totalitarianism and exploitation, are invading. They have secured a foothold, and want complete control. Their soldiers trample the land, their spies and diplomats are in your places of power, time is limited.
You represent a faction. One of the factions who are working to resist the Empire. As a representative you must extend a hand and form whatever alliances you can with the other factions at play. Resisting the Empire will cost you, and your faction. Compromises must be made.
Compromise//Empire is a GMless roleplaying game for 2-3 players about forming temporary alliances and resisting empire. Each player takes the role of a faction forced into an unlikely alliance. You must represent your agenda while making compromises to fight against the forces of empire.
This is another game that allows you to decide exactly what kind of world you’d like to play in. Crises will arise over the course of the game, and you will attempt to find a solution that makes you and your allies happy. Success is not guaranteed in this game - you may find a way to work together, but your plans may also fall apart. If there is a setting or game you’d like to set-up for, this is an excellent option!
Voidheart Symphony, by UFO Press.
here’s a wound in the world, a rot eating at hope and community and empathy. You’ve seen it in dark alleyways and gleaming boardrooms, gifting terrible power to those who will use it to hurt others. You’ve had enough. You’re going to dive through that wound into the nightmare castle on the other side. You’re going to find the avatar of the one bringing you misery, and strike them down.
But what’s next, once you’ve stolen their power and ruined their ambitions? Will you return to your daily grind? Cherish those who are close to you? Or revel in the power you have taken from the void? Because within that wound, the castle waits, and it is hungry.
Voidheart Symphony is a tabletop roleplaying game about mundane people diving into a demon-filled labyrinth to save the ones they love. Based on Apocalypse Worldand Rhapsody of Blood, it’ll fill your story with dramatic choices and dynamic action. Your rebels each have a core strength – they may be an Authority, a Provider, a Watcher. But your enemy is far too great for you to face alone.
If you’re interested in the Persona series, this game is probably up your alley. Shadowy powers lurk behind everyday folks, and your rebellion may not ever make it to the front page. You are heroes behind the scenes, fighting for the freedom of folks who may never know to thank you. If you like the idea of being unsung heroes in the modern day, you should check this game out!
Spire: The City Must Fall, by Rowan, Rook & Decard.
Spire is a mile-high impossible city, older than anyone can remember. Two hundred years ago, the high elves – or aelfir, strange and beautiful masked creatures from the far north – took it from the dark elves by force. Now, they graciously allow dark elves, or drow, to live in the city if they perform four years of service to an aelfir lord once they come of age. Spire is crumbling from within and without; it is ancient, and has been built and rebuilt countless times, and at the centre of the mass there is a jagged, weeping hole in reality called the Heart. It is a nightmarish, dizzying place of perverse luxury and widespread destitution, where drow labourers toil in vast gardens and sweltering factories to produce treasures for their masters.
Spire is a roleplaying game about desperate revolutionary dark elves caught up in a secret war against the high elves, or aelfir, who rule the towering city of Spire. The world of Spire is a brutal one, and players can expect to see their characters suffer at the hands of their oppressors, or their rivals; bodily harm, psychological scarring and reprisals against their allies are commonplace. But for those willing to do what it takes, Spire is on the brink of full-scale rebellion, and you are poised to push it over the edge.
This game uses a D10 system that uses dice pools to determine success -  the highest number indicates whether or not you are successful, and how successful you are. The rebellion in this game is dark and vicious; the characters are pushed to do terrifying things in the name of death, vindication, and revenge. This is a fantasy game through and through, but make sure to bring some safety tools to the table, as a game of Spire can easily turn bloody and grim.
If you are interested in this setting but want a game about dungeon-delving instead, you can try Heart: The City Beneath, by the same company.
Previously advertised games that fit this theme:
Balikbayan: Cyberpunk Elementals escaping enslavement. Brinkwood: Brigands fighting against Vampires. Rising Tide: Eco-Justice pirates hitting Corporations at sea.
Red Mountain Waffle House, pt. 10
Author's Note: nsft later on in the chapter
----------------------
It had started raining pretty much the instant they got to Suran, and Jolene was quick to drag her into the nearest building - which, as it happened, was some sort of tourist directory building. He bought a large umbrella, then turned to her and said, "The closest things are all going to be casinos...we could see some sort of sleight of hand show, or perhaps if my ongoing seats are available at the theater--"
"You have reserved theater seats? Isn't that expensive?"
"Oh, it's not that much," Jolene waved a hand absently, and gave an impish grin. "It helps to know people."
They went back out, and as Sadara was still hesitant to name something to do, they ducked into the first casino, themed in early Imperial.
"Slot machines are mindless. Good for thinking..."
"And losing your ass." She laughed. "I've never even been in a place this nice before."
But he DID turn out to be right. A handful of drakes netted her a couple hundred more as she sat 'thinking', and she decided to quit after that little victory in search of something else.
(And before she lost what she'd won.)
"Are you hungry?" she said, once they went back out, "I could--"
"No, no, I am the one who offered, you keep your money. What did you decide on?"
Not for the first or last time did Sadara wonder why Jolene was this well spoken. She thought - the assumptions I made, just based on what he looked like! How many stories have I read warning about this? And yet I kept doing it?
"Perhaps first we find our own entertainment...or that theater thing you mentioned...provided the show's not too bleak, I can't stand a sad ending," Sadara said, "If I wanted to hear what sad endings sound like I can just talk to my neighbors...or the rat in the wall."
"The...rat in the wall." Jolene's tone was the driest thing in the city. "You have a rat, singular, in your wall?"
"Yeah...he's more like a building-wide pet. Like a mascot or something." she shrugged. "We feed him garbage and he eats other pest animals...sleeps in our hall closet. Fat little bastard, but cute, he knows us."
Jolene either didn't hear, or was pretending not to hear, that part, because he didn't give a response. Instead, he took her by the hand and lead her down the street towards a large theater whose sign was bright enough she couldn't quite make out much beyond that there were four letters on it.
------------------------------
Sadara was sobbing by the end of the show, and still sniffling by the time they left the theater.
"Are you--alright?" Jolene questioned, "I didn't think you'd react to it that way."
"H-how could I not, everyone hated her! And then...and then she sang about how she used to be...to beautiful, and...and...they picked her, and she was happy..." She'd seen bits and pieces of Cats but never seen the whole thing front to back and had NEVER heard Memory before.
It reminded her of growing up broke, seeing the looks from her 'betters.' How she had done what she'd seen the Grizabella on stage do - kept her head high despite the insults.
"I'm fine," she said, when he asked again, "It's just...I know what it's like to...anyway, I'm sorry I ruined it for you."
"You didn't ruin anything. Ah...maybe we should try something else..." he looked about as they walked down the street, her clinging to his arm as she continued to wipe stray tears away. Overhead the rain went on, but they were guarded this time by the umbrella
"I enjoyed it. Really, I did," she finally said, "I've never been to live theater, that was...that was magical."
Finally she understood what the fuss was all about regarding seeing a live performance. And she was pretty sure the Altmer lady in the front row who'd danced with one of the cast members understood it even better.
(She would later remember how attentive Jolene was, how much he'd seemed to revel in her new reaction to everything. At the moment all she could do was either gush or cry)
She gave a laugh. "Maybe we should get something to eat? Give the rain time to stop?"
There was a nervous laugh, but Jolene agreed. Their next stop was some restaurant themed like ancient Akavir, the food of which Sadara didn't especially like. The booze, however, was excellent, though she tried not to drink too much of it. Strong stuff, she thought, far too strong. Jolene drank half the bottle, but it didn't seem to much affect him.
"Luckily, I have a high tolerance." He gave her a grin when she asked. "Let us say there are those in my family in the business of producing alcohol...and they are quite free with samples."
"A refined palate, as the snobs would say?"
"Something like that."
There was a chuckle then, from which of them she wasn't quite sure. The buzz of alcohol had her feeling giggly, so in the end she'd decide it was probably her to do it.
When they left she kept close to him, again under the umbrella.
"This damned rain," she said, "I swear, no matter where we go...it's like it's following us."
It was strange, really. Something in the back of her head told her 'maybe you ought to think about this a little more' but was just as quickly washed away.
If Dagoth Ur would go to random restaurants in the Red Mountain region it wasn't out of the way to think he'd go here too. He was probably in some casino or the other, drumming up followers from people who'd run out of money. At least - if she was him, that's probably what she would have done.
----------------------------------
The rest of the night was fuzzy, save for one part. When she'd planted a kiss on Jolene's lips in some bar or the other, and whispered in his ear if he'd like to enjoy things more privately, he'd leaped right into action.
A room was arranged--there were hotels everywhere--and despite how eager Sadara was to climb Mt. Jolene he insisted on showering first. Fine, she thought. A couple bathrobes were available, and with a lingering mischievousness she stripped before putting on hers and glancing out the window at the glittering city lights.
She could feel Nerevar, somewhere in the back of her mind, eager, ready - well, he had been without, and he'd been good. If nothing else he'd get a little reward for keeping up his end of the bargain tonight.
Tease him, Nerevar thought, as if her thinking his name had summoned him. Men like him like it.
What did I tell you about staying quiet?
I just wanted to help you out.
Well...thanks, but I don't think it'll be necessary. I'm not trying to be mean but if you don't stay quiet it's going to be VERY hard for me to get this going.
My lips are sealed, Nerevar replied. No matter how hard it's going to be to stay silent.
She gave a little laugh, and tensed only slightly when she heard Jolene speak from somewhere behind her, "Something funny?"
Sadara turned, and was greeted by a sight that was both funny and alluring. Jolene was seated on the edge of the bed, with his wet hair soaking his robe and a large bandage prominently displayed on his forehead.
"What--what happened?" she asked. "Are you alright?"
"A--minor fall."
"Should I heal it? I know a minor--"
"No, no, it's not necessary. It's fine," Jolene waved a hand dismissively, "I--ah--was grabbing a towel when I leaned over and cut my forehead on the hook on the back of the--"
She pulled loose the knot in her robe, and felt the amusement rising further, as he started to trip over his words. He could see nothing important yet, but he could see enough to know she was bare beneath the robe. The valley between her breasts, a little of her belly...
It was a treat to watch his eyes travel down as he struggled for words.
"--of the--ah--"
"I think it would benefit us both to stop talking right now," she said, "Unless you've changed your mind."
"Why in oblivion would I do that?" Jolene sputtered. He seemed to get squirmy as she stepped closer.
"Has it been a while?"
"You--have no idea." He tensed up when she moved up and straddled him. "And you?"
"Does it matter?" Sadara laughed, and shrugged slightly, so the robe shifted down and exposed her shoulders. Then she gave a slight giggle in his ear, and tugged at the knot of his own robe. "Would it make you want me less?"
"Not a bit."
The knot undone, Sadara gave what she hoped looked like a cheeky grin, and lay a hand on his chest. Then, as she planted a kiss or two on his neck, she let her hand drift slowly downward.
His abs were a work of art, and she couldn't help but admire them, limited in the view as she was being this close. He didn't look bulky enough to have abs this hard, but--another reminder not to judge by outward appearance.
"Like what you see?" he asked in a low tone.
She didn't answer - with words, anyway. She met Jolene's eyes and kept her gaze locked there as her hand brushed against and then closed around his cock.
Then she kissed him, and started to stroke. He was already half-hard, and it didn't take long at all for her to finish the job.
He tasted of wine, mainly, but also oddly enough of ash, of cinnamon, of--
Home.
The kiss was shallow but went on until she had to part with him to breathe. She'd kept stroking, and a glance up at his eyes again showed her the desperation he was feeling. He was ready, he was eager.
The poor man was putty in her hands and she had to resist the urge to laugh. So Nerevar was right.
"Maybe," she started, tightening her grip just slightly as she stroked his cock, "Maybe I should just finish you this way? It doesn't seem like it's going to take you very long. I could get on my knees if you'd prefer."
"No--" Jolene choked out, "--don't. I'd rather--"
"You'd rather get inside me?" Sadara asked. "You'd better show me, then. Show me what you want."
There was a definite blush on his face, but she saw it only for a moment. The next those large hands were pressing her robe back, baring her entirely, and the one after that his hands were on her hips. He moved her up--growled, when he found her wet, then thrust upward and into her.
"Oh--fuck--"
He was big enough, but there was something else--maybe that it had just been too long--that made that first thrust feel even better. Sinking down, being spread around that cock, it was wonderful.
And then without letting her take the lead, Jolene started to buck beneath her and all outside thought came to an end.
"Fuck," she moaned again, "It's not going anywhere, you don't have to go so hard."
"Am I too much for you?" It was Jolene's turn to tease. "Are you...overwhelmed? Should I--"
"If you stop I'm going to kill you," she groaned, and lifted both hands to his shoulders.
It was almost like a battle--his trying to finish her from below, thrusting upward; while she rolled her hips downward and tried to see if she could silence him from sheer eagerness.
A groan by her ear. He turned her head, nipped at her neck once, twice, and then a third time, wrapped both arms around her and buried his face in her neck.
Gods above...gods...I can feel it too...this is EVERYTHING I ever DREAMED about--
"Not now, Nerevar." Sadara mumbled.
Jolene didn't stop, but he lifted his head, and hope that he hadn't heard her was dashed.
"What did you say?"
"I..." she looked away, "I...hear a voice now and then..."
A pause.
"He's enjoying this too."
"Really, now..." Jolene's interest, far from being put off, appeared to be piqued. He moved a little more swiftly, thrust a little more deeply. "...I'm glad to hear that."
"Harder--fuck--" Sadara's request was instantly complied with, and the stab of pleasure was deep enough she went nearly limp in his arms.
His face was back in her neck, and he was mumbling things. Things she didn't hear, figured she didn't need to hear.
The buildup, the knot coiling in her gut, was closer and closer every second. She almost wanted the wait to never end - but was eager for it to, eager to feel that bolt of pleasure wash through her.
And then, unexpectedly, it did. One moment she was on that plateau, that anticipation's edge, and the next she was plummeting, then drowning in pleasure. She practically screamed out, and spasmed around him--but didn't fall, so tightly was Jolene holding to her.
His own end was marked not only by the pulse and the warmth that followed, but also by a sudden gasp in her ear, a clench of his thighs and then a relaxation.
"Fuck." She swore one last time, and rested against him, utterly satisfied. "Gods...that was..."
Jolene wasn't talking, and she decided to go along with it. It was nice to fuck someone that actually WANTED to cuddle afterwards.
And before they went back out again, he'd want to bed her again.
This time, with her on her back.
I was wondering, are you able to make a moon knight system and werewolf by night (jack russell) headcannon to a friend (eventual s/o) who was witchy powers (ie portals, nature manipulation, spells, divination, etc)?
thanks, and love ur work :)
Tumblr media
THE MOON BOYS WITH A WITCH S/O
Warning: none
A/n: Unfortunately, I do not write for WBN, so I can only provide MK headcanon! I hope you still like it :3
🍓 Steven Grant 🍓
Okay so I think how you and Steven first met would be pretty interesting.
You save him from some danger with your power, and he would just *confused scream at your face*
"...You okay?"
"AHHHHH...ahhh...*silent* Y-Yes, that was very rude of me I apologize, you are..?"
"I'm Y/n"
"Great...fantastic! Thank you for saving me, I'm Steven"
And somehow, friendship just bloomed between you guys.
Steven can never get used to your power; please don't give him a heart attack by randomly teleporting or making a plant grow to your liking in front of his eyes 😭😭
He wants to ask a ton of questions about your power, but is scared you will find them annoying.
Secretly fangirling whenever you use your powers.
Steven knows he's doomed the moment he switches from being starstruck by how beautiful your powers are to how beautiful you look while doing them.
He really doesn't know how to say he's in love with you tbh, but his eyes say it all.
Y/n: *open a portal to walk from the bed to the kitchen*
Steven:
🍓 Marc Spector 🍓
Get pretty freaked out by your power at first.
He thought he had seen it all when meeting Khonsu, but now he sees a human's hand glowing with a vibrant color.
Marc.exe has stopped working.
Very cautious and doesn't trust you at first (but grows soft and protective after learning you never want to use your powers to harm anyone).
Have some weird moments when he just stares at you and quickly looks away
Nobody knows what Marc thinks 😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️
He would be interested in your background, because normal people wouldn't just have magic, right? Did you go through horrible things like him? or something else?
It is up to you whether you tell him or not, he would be respectful about that.
But you guys are meant to be anyway.
Marc: "Tell me, how many minutes do I have before Khonsu appears to ruin my day?"
Y/n: "Hmmmm, approximately 3 minutes and 20 seconds."
Marc: *really heavy sigh* thanks, babe.
🍓 Jake Lockley 🍓
How you and Jake met is like a scene from a movie.
Jake: "I don't hurt women, go"
Y/n: "Oh no thanks, I think I will be fine"
Jake: *pulls out his gun and points it toward Y/n* Do you know who I am?
Y/n: *casts a spell to bind Jake's hands together* Shouldn't I be the one to ask that? *smirks*
Long story short, Jake is in love with women who can beat his ass and take no shit from anyone.🫡🫡
Skip the friends stage; he'll ask you to be his lover sO FAST
Why would he let any man sweep you off your feet first? When he is Jake Lockley???
Unlike Steven or Marc, Jake prefers to bring you into a fight with him.
Very smug and proud to see how strong you are.
This man supports women's rights, but he also supports women's wrongs.
Like to step aside and let you finish the "job"
He kissed her without her consent and we know she was attracted to him because the book was in her pov but he never did care for her consent in the ROMANTIC setting. I get not caring about it in the stag/powers thing hut coming onto her when she is saying that she hates you is..
I know I'm gonna regret writing this, but if you need a verbal consent for every kiss, you should probably avoid 99 % of romantic media.
Are we talking about the most awkward first kiss ever, that took even him by surprise?
The kiss in the tent by the Fold, that was clearly powerplay and making a point. (Girl, you think you can manipulate me by insincere temptation?! I can insincerly buy your fake acting.)
The weirdest not-a-sex-dream ever? The one, where the only logical explanation is Alina's mind is lying again, because the Darkling is neither a shapeshifter, nor able to bother her should she not long for his company?
“You cannot lie to me. Do you think I could have come to you again and again, if you had been less alone? You called to me, and I answered.” I couldn’t quite believe what I was hearing. “You … you were there?” “On the Fold. In the palace. Last night.”
Siege and Storm Chapter 23
Later, I could never be sure if I’d done it deliberately, or if it was an accident, my bruised heart plucking at that invisible tether. Maybe I was just too tired to resist his pull. I found myself in a blurry room, staring at the Darkling.
Ruin and Rising Chapter 8
The girl is self-gaslighting about easier things to stomach, am I to believe she wouldn't change the target of her desire, when half asleep? When dreaming and reality melt into the most malleable substance? Hell, I can affect my dreams at that stage, and I don't live in magical world.
Even that "affirmation" isn't really affirmation:
He was pressing, trying to provoke me. Instead of shying away, I moved closer. “You came to me wearing Mal’s face that night in your chambers. Was it because you knew I would turn you away?” His fingers tightened on the table’s edge, but then he shrugged. “He was the one you longed for. Do you still?” “No.” “An apt pupil, but a terrible liar.”
Ruin and Rising Chapter 9
When Alina mentions the event, Aleksander reacts with contained anger. Why? He doesn't like Malyen, but they've been talking about him this whole time, why would he mind reminder he even used that face to get to Alina? Perhaps because it wasn't his choice.
Why would Alina "see" something that wasn't his doing? Because as much as she was lonely- therefore Aleksander came to visit her-, she wanted Mal to come to her and listen. And her half-asleep mind could easily provide.
His following question is a bit of a barb. Alina (according to expectations) answers that no, she has no need to long for Mal anymore, but why would she reach to Aleksander otherwise? Now that she knows how the Tether works? Like Sasha says:
“An apt pupil, but a terrible liar.”
She can control their visits, but she's still dishonest about her own feelings.
I have no idea what other kiss this might be about.
Veluriyam Mirage fic, but if we followed Klee’s assignments and made it an RPG, complete with infiltrations, strategy, and classes. Contains mild spoilers for things mentioned in the 3.8 event quest.
(Quick reminder: Klee = Mage, Eula = Swordmaster/Magic Knight, Traveler = Knight, Collei = Healer/Medic, Kokomi = General/Strategist, Idyia = Mascot/Insider, Kaeya = Master Thief/Rogue)
"General," goes the sly Kaeya, lounging on his deck chair lazily, "how should we go about this heist?"
Lumine raises an eyebrow. Heist is an interesting word for infiltrating the Veluriyam Mirage’s compound, implying that this band of rag-tag travelers is going to steal something. Well, their team Rogue always knows more than he lets on, so she lets him be.
"We'll split into... hm, four groups," General Kokomi says. She quickly unfurls the map provided to them by Idyia, marking various points Lumine doesn't understand before turning to the assembly. "Alright, we need four things for this infiltration."
"First, we need a main group to frontally assault the Veluriyam compound. The goal of the attack is not to bring down the compound, but to assemble all of its defenses in retaliation. That means we need to send our two strongest warriors."
"I'll go," Lumine dutifully raises her hand. As the token Knight of the group, she has plenty of experience fighting through hordes of enemies, and she reckons she has the highest endurance of anyone in the group. "If it's enemies that need wiping out, then I'm fit for the job."
"Agreed," the General says, summoning one of her water fish and colouring it golden. It appears on the map, directly in front of the Veluriyam compound. "Swordmaster Eula, perhaps you would deign to lend your strength to our Knight of Honours?"
The General has dodged a bullet— despite having met the Swordmaster mere minutes ago, she has already accurately tuned herself to the aristocrat’s wavelength.
"You need my help?" scoffs Eula, but Lumine can see the faintest trace of a smile across her lips, and hurries to say yes before the General is too confused by their Swordmaster's perpetual shield. Hm... with that kind of shield, perhaps she'd be better known as the Tank, except Tanks don't exist in this universe, do they? Well, she hasn't been to Fontaine yet, and the Ruin Guards come pretty close...
"You two are the Cryo Squad, and will be attacking the compound head on." Kokomi's voice drags Lumine out of her thoughts. "Collei, do you have enough material for three vulneraries each for them?"
Their Healer squeaks, not used to the direct attention. She nods hesitantly, though, and whips out her cauldron immediately, muttering under her breath as she counts out the thirteen-and-a-half cups of Nilotpala concentrate needed for each vulnerary.
"Good. Next, we need two people to enter the compound after its defenses have been drawn away," General Kokomi says. "It probably requires lockpicking and a good knowledge of dismantling elemental mechanisms, so Kaeya, you're up."
The Rogue sits up straighter, although the lazy glint in his eyes doesn't go away. "Aye aye, captain," he drawls.
Although Kokomi turns her head for a moment, Lumine can still catch the roll of her eyes. "Anyway, Idyia, you should go with Kaeya."
"Me?" Idyia squeaks, suddenly looking around frantically. "What use am I in infiltration? I'm not a thief, and I don't have the skills to fight off enemies."
It's true— this team is in deep trouble if they have to fight, but the General doesn't have much of a choice, since all their hard-hitters have to go front stage. Kaeya is owns way too many knives for his own good, anyhow, and Idyia has a strange connection with water that perhaps their Master Thief could coax out with his signature snark.
"Idyia, your skill specifically lies with the Veluriyam Mirage contraptions within the compound," the General expounds, ever-patient. "Kaeya may have generalist knowledge in all types of traps and mechanisms, but you are the only one of this group who knows how to handle the Veluriyam contraptions."
This seems to mollify Idyia, who nods with more confidence, and the General places two more fish at the side entrance of the Veluriyam compound, dark and light blue, labeled Hydro squad: no doubt something about the poetics of water being formless, changing shape and entering cracks and crevices.
"Now comes bombardment," and the General's sigh is audible, given that everyone gathered immediately turns their eyes to Klee. The girl in question jumps a little at all the attention, but quickly gives a big smile and thumbs-up.
"General Fish-Lady wants me to use my bombs?!" She squeaks in delight. "Klee will be sure to deliver!"
Klee is... technically their Mage. Lumine wishes she could introduce her companions to the concept of artillery, though, because that suits Klee far better.
All Kokomi does is sigh and pull Klee over for a private talk, which leaves Lumine some time to converse with her designated squad member.
"Swordmaster Eula?" Lumine addresses respectfully, if not a tad cheekily, saluting her as well. "We may as well discuss tactics while the General schools our Mage on acceptable levels of bombardment."
Eula nods stiffly, stifling a smile at their youngest member's antics. "Very well. Have you any ideas?"
"Well, I must warn you that no plan survives contact with the enemy," Lumine says, hoping she sounds sagely instead of pretentious. "But if you'll take no offence to it, I suggest using me as a shield, while you deal out strikes safely from behind."
Eula scoffs, but she doesn't immediately shut Lumine down, so that's a win. "An insulting offer," she tilts her head haughtily. "One is very much capable of attack without your protection."
"I make the offer not to insult you, Swordmaster Eula, but to increase our chances of success," Lumine consoles, trying to match the aristocrat's respectful and dignified air. "We will be fighting for as long as the other groups need to pull off their plans. There will be no opportunity to pull back and regroup, nor to lick our wounds. Minor injuries, therefore, may become deadly as well— therefore we must minimise damage to ourselves more than maximise damage to the enemy. It does the team no good if we are both fall before the objective is achieved."
"And you believe yourself capable of sustaining the damage meant for two people?" Eula asks, but there it is, that slight tone of concern that simultaneously makes Lumine want to crawl into a hole and die and also puff out her chest in pride.
"I mean not to boast, Sir Eula, but I am a Knight of the Cosmic— well, Knight of Honours now, well-versed in defensive tactics," Lumine puts her arms on her hips. "With me as a bulwark, you may freely dance without fear of being injured."
Eula narrows her eyes, but acquiesces with a slight nod. Perhaps the word 'dance' helped win her over— only Lumine knows, after all, that their Swordmaster's deadly weapon is not her strength or speed, but the unyielding grace with which she weaponises the Dance of Aphros.
"Alright, you are Pyro Squad,” the General huffs as Klee, who has been appropriately schooled, goes back to join the group. “To keep up our Archmage’s strength, Collei, you should join her.”
“...Archmage?” Collei blurts out, and Lumine sympathises with her confusion. Even if she did know what the word meant, it’s impossible to understand why the General promoted Klee— maybe that was the reason for the private talk? Promotion in exchange for not causing collateral damage? But Klee doesn’t seem the type to want to have a higher class than anyone else, given her nature, so maybe it was to boost her stats? No wait, hold on, wrong world...
“Yup! I’m Archmage Klee now, da-da-da!” Klee gives an adorable grin that doesn’t quite mesh with the number of explosives clutched in her hands. Only ever-observant Kaeya is quick enough to react, tapping her on the shoulder, a silent signal: explosives away. She stows them away reluctantly. “What was it that Mom said? Pleasure to be working with you, Miss Collei!”
Collei flushes red, but the General cuts in with her command before Collei can bury herself in shame. “Collei, it’s not a very glamorous job, but bombardment requires incredible physical and mental endurance. Once the signal is given, your medical knowledge will be invaluable to make sure our Archmage doesn’t run out of strength halfway.”
“Right!” Collei snaps to attention, seemingly calmed by being given direct instructions. “I suppose I’ll need to prepare mana tonics? Perhaps some fireproof elixirs, too... ah, but Master Tighnari always said elemental elixirs need their opposing reagents for maximum effectiveness, and there won’t be any Cryo Whopperflower nectar nearby...”
“Well, I can simply donate some of my elemental powers,” Kaeya says, drawing an icicle with his fingertips idly. “And as I understand, you wield the power of Dendro, correct? Our little Archmage’s bombs do quite a lot of damage, but wouldn’t it be more efficient if you could combine your elements to trigger widespread Burning?”
“An excellent idea, Master Thief,” the General pointedly says. Lumine gets the feeling she doesn’t like being superceded, even though Kaeya’s suggestion was fairly reasonable. “You’ll need some time to get ready, so Pyro Squad, go work on your preparations now.”
Klee and Collei dutifully disperse to one of the campfires. With a nod from Kokomi, Kaeya also leaves, generating icicles on request from an emboldened Collei.
“Now, as for me... I thank you for appointing me the General, but what use is a General if they do not fight with their team?” Kokomi smirks, a flicker of pride making its way to her usually serene countenance. “I alone will take charge of the fourth job: sabotage.”
Idyia is the first to raise an objection, surprisingly. “With respect, General... isn’t that Hydro Squad’s job? The Master Thief and I are due to switch off all their defenses and turn the Veluriyam Mirage contraptions to our favour.”
“You are correct, Idyia.” Kokomi nods, once again mollifying the anxious woman. “My sabotage will not be conducted on the compound itself. If I had to summarise it...”
The General smiles, and this time, it is a terrifying visage— the teeth of an anglerfish, the predatory yawn of a tiger.
“Let’s say our enemies are going to be... excessively inconvenienced.”
~~
Not sure if I’m going to continue this, but this idea possessed me in the middle of the quest and I had to write it down before I forgot it all.
As a side note, I imagine Lumine is like the “pre-promote” unit from FE (think Seth or Frederick). That’s the Knight: tanky and good at offense. Ignore the fact she looks like a teenage girl, because Lumine could probably pull off some extremely dextrous and impressive tactics if the game would let her wield more than two elements at the same time, hello.
Eula as “Swordmaster” (she’s called Magic Knight for some reason in CN?) would fit more into the Critical Hit Beast archetype. High ATK and Crit, but relatively low defense (despite her metaphorical shield). She’s analogous to characters like Lyn, Catherine, Lucina, and Say’ri from Fire Emblem. (Perhaps Dancing = Critical Hit?)
Klee is Klee. Kaeya is the Thief who could probably die in one hit but gets all the lockpicking/chest work done. Idyia is the NPC who knows stuff. Kokomi, as the General, is the Player of the RPG game. Collei is a weird pick as Healer but I went with it. I forgot about Paimon, but I simply don’t want to write about her.
End of Year Review 2022
In many ways, I feel like this is the year that my practice truly began to take form. In previous years I was wandering, exploring, but aimless and didn’t haven’t any real direction. I knew that I wanted to pursue spirituality and magic with a genuine devotion and purpose, but I mostly I had no idea what for. I knew plenty about how magic and spirit work was done, but my practice was seriously congested by not knowing how it needed to work for me. I also suffered incredibly from apathy and inertia, as I have for the majority of my life. In terms of my craft it meant I couldn’t find anything that enflamed my passions enough for me to pursue it. I was also exhausted by academia which, towards the end, began to ruin my health. This was the context that I began the year with.
2022 had two very distinct halves for me. The first 6 months were the culmination of my final year at university, the last 6 months saw my entry into full time work and Buddhism.
Interestingly, at university I had plenty of time but little energy, while in full time work I now have little time but more energy. University drained me because there was never a point I could truly stop thinking about work, but with my job, once I left the workplace I was done with it for the day. I would say this greatly influenced my receptivity to the teachings of my gods and spirits, to have hours in the day that truly belonged to me.
Following a few quiet months after graduation and then some more to settle into my new job, I started to devotedly pursue Buddhist cultivation, which brought me a sense of stability and certainty that I hadn’t found in other traditions I tried to explore. However I also found that Buddhism was no freer of dogmatism than any other religion, even in its esoteric aspects.
There were solid reasons for its rules, however. One should not attempt to overrule the masters of a living tradition anymore than a layperson should show up at a scientific conference and start preaching to the experts. For me, the strength of Buddhism’s ability to provide a clear cosmology and framework for spiritual cultivation was also its weakness, as there is very little room for discussion on how things can be done on a macro level. The gods, spirits and teachers will liberate you, make you stronger and wiser, help you perform miracles – but they will do so on their terms, not yours*. This can sometimes feel suffocating and greatly stifling to personal self expression.
*To be honest, I see this even in the stories of seasoned practitioners of witchcraft – a path which emphasises personal freedom and subversion of authority. I think in any tradition led by gods and spirits, if you walk far enough, you will inevitably have to start compromising your wishes with their demands, entering pacts and oaths before you attain greater benefits. And sometimes you can find a balance, other times you will not.
Many times, I felt at odds with my teachers because there was a clear hierarchy, and I was both culturally and spiritually obliged to defer to my seniors. This is not an objection to spiritual authority – which plays a necessary niche within the spiritual ecology, even where it is flawed – only a reflection on my aversion to it.
In the midst of all this, a number of my familiars came forward to begin their work with me. They had been with me all my life and were carved from my own psyche, and we began to chip away at the mental obstacles that were keeping me from truly enjoying my life. One of these familiars was a personification of my Intuition.
As I progressed in my cultivation, I began to hear her with greater frequency, assisting me with more detailed and accurate divinations which were verified by my peers. She began to reveal to me a series of visions concerning magical spells, rituals and ingredients. I am still in the beginning stage of following her guidance, as she is very particular about the components of these workings. In tandem, I feel as though that I, on a deep and personal level, cannot or will not perform magic that is not approved by her first. Nonetheless, this is the first time that I feel I am truly pursuing my own brand of magic and it has given me the freedom of self-expression I have been looking for.
Currently, I am still in the meditative stages of acquiring further gnosis to flesh out my practice. I feel encouraged to dip back into Druidry to find more down-to-earth means of cultivation. There were certain Bardic practices that I didn’t enjoy or didn’t have the discipline for previously, but my Voice of Intuition has revealed new ways to engage with them in a way that aligns with my needs. Perhaps, once I follow through with these practices, she may tell me to progress to the Ovate stage. Not because it would teach me any new skills, but to reap the benefits of engaging with a community. I feel like we are playing the long game, planting seeds that will only bear fruit years down the line.
I should also mention that I feel like the Buddhas have been supporting me in the ways that I need, channeling their strength and inspiration according to my own disposition. There will always be issues and friction between human communities for one reason or another, but I can say that I have genuine faith in the gods of the Buddhist pantheon. There is no doubt in my mind that I am safe in their refuge, and that my cultivation is in good hands.
Environmental Design for Animation: Crafting Immersive Worlds
Environmental design plays a pivotal role in animation, where every frame is meticulously crafted to transport the audience into a visually compelling world. From the bustling streets of a futuristic city to the quiet calm of a magical forest, the environment shapes not only the visual aesthetic but also the narrative itself. Whether in 2D or 3D animation, environmental design serves as the foundation upon which characters, stories, and emotions are built. For aspiring animators, learning these essential design principles at an animation academy in Pune can provide the skills and knowledge to create immersive worlds that captivate audiences.
### The Role of Environmental Design in Storytelling
In animation, environments do more than just set the stage; they act as an active participant in the story. A well-designed environment can communicate mood, theme, and character development without a single word of dialogue. For instance, a barren, desolate landscape might convey loneliness or isolation, while a lush, colorful garden can evoke feelings of happiness or wonder.
Consider films like *Wall-E*, where the environment—a future Earth overwhelmed by waste—becomes a critical character in the narrative. The piles of garbage and abandoned cities visually communicate the state of the world and the consequences of human neglect, which serves as a silent commentary on the film’s ecological message. In contrast, in *Zootopia*, the varied environments from Tundratown to Sahara Square not only enrich the visual spectacle but also reflect the diversity and complexity of the city’s inhabitants, reinforcing the theme of inclusion and diversity.
### Essential Elements of Environmental Design in Animation
1. **Location and Setting**: Where does the story take place? This is the first question environmental designers must answer. Whether it's a fantasy realm, a historical setting, or an entirely new world, the location influences every other design decision. The setting must be consistent with the world’s rules and the story's tone. For example, a gritty noir detective animation would likely feature dim lighting, shadowy alleyways, and rain-soaked streets to enhance the atmosphere of suspense and mystery.
2. **Mood and Atmosphere**: Environmental design is instrumental in establishing the emotional tone of a scene. Designers use lighting, color, and texture to evoke specific feelings. A stormy sky or heavy fog may create tension, while a soft golden sunset might signify peace or resolution. The atmosphere works in tandem with character actions to create a more emotionally charged scene.
3. **Architecture and Structures**: The design of buildings and structures gives insight into the culture, history, and technology of the world. In futuristic settings, towering skyscrapers with sleek designs can convey technological advancement, while crumbling ruins might hint at a fallen civilization. Architectural style also affects the scale of the environment and how characters interact with it, whether it’s soaring heights that dwarf the characters or intimate spaces that feel confining.
4. **Details and Textures**: Small details in an environment can make a world feel more alive. Texture mapping in 3D animation or meticulous hand-drawn details in 2D help to ground the environment in reality, even if it's fantastical. For example, the texture of cobblestone streets, the rust on an old car, or the wind blowing through the grass are subtle details that add depth and believability to the world. These details allow audiences to become immersed in the environment and suspend disbelief.
5. **Use of Color**: Color is one of the most powerful tools in environmental design. It affects the viewer's emotions and perception. Warm colors like reds, oranges, and yellows tend to evoke feelings of warmth, passion, or danger, while cool colors like blues and greens can create a sense of calm, melancholy, or serenity. Designers strategically use color to influence how a scene is interpreted, ensuring it aligns with the narrative's emotional beats.
### Designing for 2D vs. 3D Animation
While the principles of environmental design remain consistent, the process can differ significantly between 2D and 3D animation. In 2D animation, backgrounds are often painted or digitally illustrated, and they may be less detailed to prevent visual clutter behind the characters. The focus is more on line work, stylized colors, and the overall composition. There is a stronger emphasis on flat planes, and designers must work within the limitations of 2D space, often using techniques like parallax scrolling to create the illusion of depth.
In 3D animation, environments are modeled in three dimensions, giving the animators more freedom to move the camera within the scene. This requires a more detailed approach, as the environment may be viewed from multiple angles. Textures, lighting, and physics play a crucial role in making the 3D world feel realistic or stylized, depending on the creative direction. In movies like *Frozen*, for example, the intricacies of snow and ice are rendered with painstaking attention to detail, contributing to the film’s magical and immersive experience.
### Challenges in Environmental Design
One of the challenges of environmental design in animation is balancing creativity with functionality. The environment must be visually appealing but also practical for animation. For instance, in action-heavy scenes, the environment needs to be designed in a way that allows characters to move freely, interact with their surroundings, and convey dynamic motion without overwhelming the viewer. Over-complicating the design can lead to visual confusion, while under-designing can make the world feel empty or flat.
Additionally, animators must consider how the environment evolves over the course of the story. Natural elements like weather, time of day, and even wear and tear on objects must be considered. In long-form narratives, the environment often reflects the journey of the characters, becoming a mirror for their internal development.
### Conclusion
Environmental design is the backbone of animated storytelling. It enriches the narrative, enhances the emotional depth, and creates a visually captivating experience that immerses the audience. Whether in hand-drawn 2D or photorealistic 3D, the environments crafted by designers bring animated worlds to life, making them memorable long after the story ends. A well-crafted environment not only sets the stage for the action but becomes a character in its own right, contributing to the overall mood, theme, and emotional resonance of the animation. Students at an animation institute in Pune can master these skills, learning to create environments that leave a lasting impact on audiences.
It is always advisable to begin the ideation for designing before 6-8 Months. With a clearer vision in mind, engage in a collaborative dance with designers or explore custom options to conceptualize your dream saree. Delve into considerations such as fabric, color, embroidery, and overall style.  It's time to finalize your choice and place the order. Ensure to get it done at least 4-6 Months before. This step is crucial for achieving the perfect fit, ensuring you step into your ‘The D-day’ journey with comfort and confidence.With your saree in hand, direct your focus toward selecting accessories: jewelry, shoes, and a coordinating clutch. Start planning for the accessories immediately after your first trial. In the weeks leading up to your wedding, revisit your saree and the blouse to ensure every detail is in perfect order. Embrace the moment with confidence, radiating grace as you step into your matrimonial journey.Remember, each bride's journey is a unique choreography.
Fabric
The saree’s fabric may make or ruin an outfit. It should not only appear luxurious, but it should also drape well and fit well on your body.Silk is the most popular fabric for bridal and wedding sarees. Hundreds of various weaves and silk kinds are available in India, thanks to its extensive weaving traditions. The options range from delicate chanderi silks to hefty banarasi silk sarees to beautiful and exquisite kanjeevaram silk sarees. The cloth you pick should flatter your figure. A stiff, flared fabric may look beautiful on a tall, slim bride, but it will look terrible on a fat or short bride who needs something close-fitting and silhouetted.Choose a fabric that is appropriate for your body type. All brides will look beautiful in a soft, well-draping fabric.
Exploring Sri Lanka: A Gem of the Indian Ocean
Tumblr media
Nestled like a teardrop in the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka beckons travelers with its rich tapestry of culture, history, and natural beauty. Renowned for its pristine beaches, lush tea plantations, and ancient heritage sites, this island nation is emerging as one of the most sought-after destinations for honeymooners and adventurers alike. From tranquil sunsets over golden shores to exhilarating wildlife safaris and cultural immersions, Sri Lanka offers an array of experiences to captivate every heart.
Honeymooning in Paradise:
Tumblr media
For couples seeking romance in an exotic locale, Sri Lanka stands as an unparalleled destination. With its idyllic beaches, secluded resorts, and breathtaking landscapes, it sets the stage for a magical honeymoon experience. Imagine strolling hand in hand along the palm-fringed shores of Mirissa Beach or indulging in a candlelit dinner under the stars in the hill country of Ella. Whether you're unwinding in a luxurious beachfront villa or exploring ancient cities steeped in history, Sri Lanka offers the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure for newlyweds.
Things to Do in Sri Lanka:
Tumblr media
Embark on a journey of discovery as you explore the myriad attractions that Sri Lanka has to offer. Begin your adventure in the cultural triangle, where the ancient cities of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Sigiriya stand as testaments to the island's storied past. Marvel at the towering Sigiriya Rock Fortress, adorned with vibrant frescoes and surrounded by lush greenery, or wander through the sacred ruins of Anuradhapura, where ancient stupas and sacred relics evoke a sense of awe and reverence.
For nature lovers, Sri Lanka boasts an abundance of natural wonders waiting to be explored. Venture into the heart of the island's dense jungles and national parks, where you can encounter majestic elephants, elusive leopards, and a myriad of exotic bird species. Yala National Park, located on the southeastern coast, is renowned for its diverse wildlife and scenic landscapes, making it a must-visit destination for safari enthusiasts.
No trip to Sri Lanka would be complete without experiencing the serenity of its tea country. Journey into the misty hills of Nuwara Eliya or Ella, where emerald-green tea plantations blanket the landscape as far as the eye can see. Take a guided tour of a tea factory to learn about the art of tea production and sample some of the world's finest Ceylon tea amidst breathtaking panoramic views.
For those seeking sun, sea, and sand, Sri Lanka's coastline offers a plethora of options for beach lovers. Unwind on the pristine shores of Bentota or Hikkaduwa, where palm-fringed beaches and crystal-clear waters provide the perfect backdrop for relaxation and water sports. Dive into the vibrant underwater world of coral reefs and marine life, or simply bask in the sun and soak up the tropical ambiance.
Best Time to Visit Sri Lanka:
Tumblr media
When planning your trip to Sri Lanka, it's essential to consider the best time to visit to make the most of your experience. The island nation experiences two distinct monsoon seasons, which vary depending on the region. The dry season, spanning from December to April, is considered the best time to visit Sri Lanka, as the weather is warm and sunny across the island, making it ideal for sightseeing, beach holidays, and outdoor activities.
During the dry season, you can expect clear skies, minimal rainfall, and comfortable temperatures, making it the perfect time to explore Sri Lanka's cultural sites, embark on wildlife safaris, and indulge in outdoor adventures. However, it's essential to book accommodations and tours in advance, as this is also the peak tourist season, and popular destinations can get crowded.
Alternatively, if you're looking to avoid the crowds and enjoy lower prices, consider visiting Sri Lanka during the shoulder seasons of May to August and September to November. While these months may experience sporadic rainfall, particularly in the hill country and central regions, you can still enjoy plenty of sunshine and fewer tourists, allowing for a more intimate and authentic travel experience.
Sri Lanka Tour Packages:
