Skull-Face is a fantasy novella originally serialized in Weird Tales (October through December, 1929). Clearly influenced by Sax Rohmer's opus Fu Manchu it substitutes a resuscitated Atlantean necromancer for the Asian villain. From the center of a web of crime and deceit he means to end Western world domination in order to re-instate surviving Atlanteans (lying dormant in submerged sarcophagi) as the new ruling elite.

Things were looking up; she did not know why, but she divined it.       Charley was puttering at something under the hood of the Carvel, and she called to him.       “Do you remember what you said you would do if you had my money, Charley?”       He thought for a few seconds.       “It was what I’d do if I had your money and what you know about cars, too,” he said, carefully.       “All right. E.J. Rath is the pseudonym of Edith Rathbone Jacobs Brainerd (1885-1922) and her husband Chauncey Corey Brainerd (1874-1922) wikipedia : link Both were writing independently before their partnership (and marriage), he as a journalist. Several of their stories were made into films.
Both died in 1922 (when the roof of a theater collapsed under heavy snow). And yet numerous titles appeared thereafter, all published — or issued under the copyright held — by G. Howard Watt (?-1940).

The latter source quotes a Louisville Times tribute, which characterizes their working method as : “she the diviser of the plot and property man, he the literary spinner.” Impossible to know. For a school assignment, I'm assembling an anthology around the theme of queer divinity and desire, but I'm having a hard time finding a fitting essay/article (no access to real academic catalogues :/ ), do you know of any essays around this theme?
