So @helyeahmangocheese has been cooking this valhalla!valgrace AU, and it's made me think of how amazing and how terrifying Leo and Alex's friendship would be

Imagine for a sec with me. One day, Annabeth dies while defending a bunch of mortal children from a monster and, for the sake of this what if story, Percy doesn’t lose his shit and attacks the gods. He realizes he’s gonna see her again one day so he continues on living. Fast forward about 5 years and Percy dies in a drunk car accident (I can see the irony) and he ends up in hades. He goes through judgment and gets sent to Elysium. He gets there and immediately starts to look for Annabeth. He sees all these familiar faces. Jason, Beckondorf, Silena, Zoe, Bianca, and so on but he doesn’t see his wise girl. He figures she must be in the Isle of the Bliss because of course Annabeth is and he walks over to Bianca to ask her if he can talk to her dad about just visiting the Isle to see Annabeth. Bianca looks him in the eyes and says she’s not here. Percy is like ya I know she’s not here that’s why I want to go and see if she’s on the Isle. Bianca shakes her head and says Percy, she’s not there either, she’s not here in the underworld. Percy just stares at her, confused and asks if there was a mix up and she’s actually in the fields of asphodel. Bianca starts to tear up as his friend starts to form a circle around him and says, I don’t know how, but Annabeth Chase’s soul never made it down here into the underworld. And that’s when it hits him, Annabeth died with her knife in her hands. He remembers Magnus telling him how people ended up in Valhalla. Percy falls to his knees and starts to wail uncontrollably as he realizes that he’ll never get to hold Annabeth, his Wise Girl, ever again.

Cut back to 5 years ago to when Annabeth first wakes up after death. She’s confused at first but quickly realizes where she is after someone tells her welcome to Hotel Valhalla. It doesn’t bother her at first, thinking that with Percy’s luck, he’ll die like she did so she waits. She waits in the lobby for decades until one day, Magnus sits beside her and gently tells her that it's been over a century and that Percy wasn’t coming. Magnus looks over at her and sees the silent tears streaming down her face. Deep down, she’s known for a while but didn’t want to believe it. Magnus holds her as she cries louder into his shoulders, all the while, Annabeth is wondering to herself how can the fates be so cruel?

Jason spending even just like a week on Floor 19 of Hotel Valhalla would fix like 90% of his problems at least, probably

The fact that there’s a handful of “Jason Grace ends up in Hotel Valhalla”-fics is extremely entertaining to me purely based on how possible it is? You don’t have to have any connection to Norse mythology to go to HV after you die. Mortals can end up there. That’s an established thing. Nothing states that you can’t end up there just because you’re the kid of a god from a different pantheon.

The only requirements for ending up in Hotel Valhalla are dying bravely and with a weapon in your hand, both of which apply to Jason. Maybe one of the valkyries saw his lightning powers and assumed he was a Thor kid.

Jason has no idea how he keeps ending up on pantheon crossover of the week, but he’d really like to get off that show, please and thank you.

I'm just SAYING the whole "born a Roman, die a Roman" thing as Jason 'becomes more Greek' throughout his story and one of the last things he does before dying a heroic death being to tell a god to remember what it's like to be human (which I read as true defiance against the order and chaos of the Roman and Greek pantheons) makes for a really good case that we could save ourselves a lot of trouble by giving him to the Norse

What’s new in the AU?

Leo: Well, I’m fucking dead, so-

THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO AVOID SPOILERS!

Leo attempted using the Physician’s Cure, but there were complications as Festus tried to revive him, and he was instead claimed by the Valkyrie. All other events through Blood of Olympus remain unchanged.

Months have passed since his real-world death, leaving his friends to mourn both his and Magnus’ deaths in the time that it took for him to arrive at HV. Magnus Chase and Annabeth Chase have been in contact (as the events of Sword of Summer are also unchanged), so he is aware of the Greek pantheon; however, he had not yet, at that time, met Leo or otherwise connected the dots prior to the start of this blog.

Leo arrives in Valhalla right before Alex Fierro, meaning that the Hammer of Thor is running in parallel to his initial adjustment to the Hotel. He will not be participating in all events of HoT, but many may be referenced, altered, or used as inspiration throughout the blog. HoT and SotD will both happen to an extent (on and off screen).

Magnus Chase is set to meet with Annabeth and Percy again as Ship of the Dead is inevitable. There will be implications before and after this happens.

Namely, in canon, they are crying over Jason's death. Meaning, ToA is running in parallel.

This is where it takes a little bit of imagination and a little bit of playing along, later on! At the same time as the blog & Hammer of Thor, Trials of Apollo (kind of) happens. Most of The Hidden Oracle running parallel to SoS is canonically unchanged, but The Dark Prophecy requires Lester, Calypso, and Festus to complete their quests without Leo himself. Narratively, I don’t really mind the thought of Calypso saving herself when Festus arrives alone, attempting to nurse Leo’s old body, but Festus and Leo alike grieve for their friendship.

Leo is building a new Festus body, but it won’t become his Festus until later in the story…

Similarly, The Burning Maze remains mostly unchanged, with Jason’s death following the events of canon (that is to say, 6 months after BoO/Leo’s death). He is, indeed, broken up with Piper at this point, but without Leo, she is left to mourn with Festus. Her role in this story will come later down the line…

(Yes, they broke up because they were incompatible types of queer; Jason is still processing HoH by his arrival)

While Jason is immediately claimed by the Valkyrie to bring to Valhalla upon his death, it is still TBD when his specific arrival happens in line with SotD, interactions between the Chase cousins, and the canon of V²AU.

Jason is in Valhalla and there is going to be Jason books called 'The Glory of Grace' and there gonna be more Valhalla books and it gonna have flashbacks of him finally getting all his memories back and him at full strength fucking OBLITERATING EVERYTHING cause that man canonical defeated a TITAN with NO river Styx curse, barefisted, needing glasses, etc. While percy needed the river Styx curse had good eye sight and had a weapon and struggled with defeating Titans (Needed Grivers help and Luke help to actually defeat titans) 🕺🕺

what do you think was jason's attitude on reaching the underworld? was he on edge, stressed about the fact that he left his friends in battle. was he anxious about piper and his other friends at cj and chb? or was he strangely peaceful that he didn't have to go through his struggles ever again? did he feel a burden being taken off his shoulder, as he didn't have to worry about being a child soldier golden boy stuck in a miserable life at school alone?

okay so i think jason has mixed feelings about dying. he doesn’t want to feel at peace, but he DOES.

also i really like the valhalla theory. this idea that it’s like “okay im dead i can finally relax” and then it’s like “no actually you have to fight until the world ends which could be for centuries”. i lovee tragedy so i wanna learn more about that theory.

but if that didnt happen, then i think it would be just as tragic. he hates himself for feeling at peace, but he can’t stop feeling that way. being a soldier is all he’s known all his life, what is he if not hera’s champion?

I still can not believe there are ONLY EIGHT (8) fics of Jason Grace dying and ending up in Hotel Valhalla on AO3 and I have scoured through all of them, even the crossovers!

I might as well just take matters into my own hands and I'm terrible at actually sitting and writing shit down. I once tried writing an OMORI AU and gave up after jotting down mere summaries and plot notes-
