Halloween Headcanons

Lester really can’t stop them putting on costumes at Halloween

Becker and Jess both go as vampires one year. The coordination is unplanned, and prompts many jokes, winks and nudges from Abby and Matt

Everyone pretends not to recognise Jess in her vampire get up

She’s been a vampire, a witch and Lester

And of course, the one time there’s an anomaly while they’re in costumes is the time Connor convinced the others to be Stormtroopers, the year he was Darth Vader

Lester dresses marginally different from usual, and claims he’s Oliver Leek

Connor has 100% worn one of those inflatable dinosaur things

Emily, though she’s new to Halloween, absolutely loves it, and almost always dresses up in her Spring-Heeled-Jack stuff

Lester gives out masses of sweets to trick-or-treaters

They all carve pumpkins, which always turns into a competition between Becker, Danny and Stephen

Nick stabs himself at least three times while trying to carve his pumpkin

He can turn himself and Stephen into very good zombies

Stephen enlists Abby and Jess’ help to turn himself, Matt and Becker into werewolves one year

Sarah and Danny will let their eyes roll all the way back and chant stuff in Latin

Jenny has been known to be Christine Johnson for Halloween

Sarah figures out how to hang electric candles from the ARC ceiling like in Hogwarts

She’s the one that hides fake spiders around Lester and Becker’s offices

Danny crawls around the vents making ghost noises, which scares the shit out of Connor and Jenny (and Becker)

The Wizard (1989)

Este es uno de esos casos en que una película, que en su momento recibió sonoras críticas, termina convirtiéndose en objeto de culto. Para muchos, es una publicidad de hora y media de las bondades de la célebre empresa de videojuegos Nintendo y del parque Universal Studios.

La anécdota nos lleva a conocer a Jimmy Woods (Luke Edwards), un chiquito que suele escabullirse del ojo adulto para huir hacia California por alguna extraña razón. Esta actitud tan incomprensible lleva a su familia a decidir internarlo en un instituto psiquiátrico infantil. Los padres de Jimmy se han divorciado y sostienen una tensa relación entre ellos. Su hermanito Corey (Fred Savage) va a visitarlo de manera sorpresiva y acaba acompañándolo en su travesía. Por el camino se encuentra con una chica llamada Haley Brooks (Jenny Lewis) y la oportunidad de ganarse 50.000 dólares en un concurso de videojuegos en Las Vegas, confiando en las aptitudes innatas de Jimmy para este tipo de menesteres virtuales.

Claro que, cuando sus ausencias son advertidas, el padre (Beau Bridges) y hermano (Christian Slater) de ambos deciden ir tras su búsqueda; también, aunque por motivos menos amorosos (su trabajo reside en buscar niños perdidos y recibir una paga por ello), los acecha el impiadoso Putnam (Will Seltzer).

Un elemento esencial en el mito de la película (dirigida por Todd Holland), pero no tan importante en la historia, es el Power Glove, el cual verás en las últimas fotos. Se trata de un accesorio de la Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Un guante que, conectado a la consola, permitía activar los movimientos en el juego sólo con la mano.
