Infatuation P4
Joe Goldberg x Reader x Love Quinn
Warnings: Cant get away from the stalking and Joe is the cuck now question mark maybe?
Notes: This part is a little shorter, but I feel like its good enough to stand on its own.
Look at that, it’s a nice day today!
The air is fresh, there are thin clouds in the sky, and you’re walking right by Anavrin.
As expected, seeing this isn’t a day you typically have lunch with Love; there’s no other reason to find you in this particular grocery store.
I secure my baseball cap on my head and follow you from the other side of the street. You’re wearing a bright sundress and holding your usual bag. You know, the one with the little bell on it?
You bump into a woman and you two have a brief exchange. I can’t hear you, but I know you’re quick to dismiss yourself by the way you move those small hands of yours. Did you not want to discuss meaningless topics with people you haven’t seen in years? Yeah, me neither. Keep walking.
Surprisingly, I’m not here just to follow you around all day. I have something of yours that needs to be returned. I reach into my pocket and double-check the cellphone— your cellphone. It’s an older model, about 4 or 5 years old with no password restrictions. It slipped right out of your pocket when I was driving you home, a little surprise but a welcomed one at that. You’re making this too easy, Y/N.
As I looked through your recently deleted folder, I found something that peaked my interest. A single photo of a horribly lit photograph of Love and you. It’s pretty old, probably taken back when you first lived here. You’re both happily embracing each other at first glance, but I can see Love’s hand sneakily going up your skirt. You don’t seem to notice, but I do.
I take a moment to think this over again. Is it really happening or am I seeing things that aren’t there? Is this Peach all over again? Are you Peach or is Love... Peach? My brain is working overtime trying to rationalize this.
Love and you have exchanged texts but they’re all meetup times at Anavrin. The in between messages seem to have been deleted, because some of her replies don’t add up.
Forty’s number is in here too, but you haven’t sent him anything. If I’m to believe you’ve had this phone for at least 4 years, I’m more than certain you would have sent him something.
I cross the street when there are no cars driving by and continue to follow you a little distance away. You stop at a crosswalk and I take the opportunity to stand behind you. My heart is racing and I can feel my palms getting sweaty. We’re so close I could just grab you.
I think over my last thought. I could just grab you, huh?
By the looks of it, there’s nobody else on this street. I know better than to do anything in broad daylight, but you are starting to become more tempting the longer I stand nearby unnoticed.
Do you know I’m here? Can you feel me?
The light changes and you cross the street. I stay put and watch with an all-too-familiar stoic expression. My mind is thinking up ways to take you.
Love likes you, or I should really be saying she like likes you. Now I’m a little jealous, I’ll give you that, but over the course of the little week I’ve known you, I’ve learnt that Love adores you too much for you to suddenly disappear again. She likes to play the role of your protector and, in some cases, seems a little too physically affectionate with you. You accept it, though. Despite knowing that I am her boyfriend, you accept it all.
Dring, dring.
It’s your phone. I look down and am greeted by a message from Love to you.
Come over.
I can hear the bells again... It’s all coming together. You’ll get to see Love like you always do and she gets to pretend whatever affairs you may have are still your little secrets, but in reality, I know. I know and I allow it to happen because, quite frankly, you’re just a harmless little thing. You’re not Peach. Isn’t that right?
I don’t think you’ll ever trust me and I don’t think I ever want you to trust me, but I know you’ll trust Love.
I catch up to you at the next crosswalk and stealthily slip your cellphone into your bag.
You eventually find it after spending a good portion of your morning seated at a nearby park and reading.
I believe the book you had in hand was A Study in Scarlet by Conan Doyle. It’s a classic but, I didn’t quite paint you as the Mystery type. Actually, come to think of it, this is beginning to make a lot of sense. Though, I’m still left to wonder...between the two of us, who has the lead?
You’ve now gotten up, slid the old book into your bag and observed your phone. The park is a lovely place for you to spend your time, but I know Love now has your full attention.
As I watch you walk back in the direction in which you came, I begin to have doubts. You’re Love’s toy, but I can’t help but still feel jealous. She’s mine. And you... you can be... ours.
Maybe then it won’t hurt as much.

Page 4: Tiger Woods on the mend -- Tiger is counting his blessings as he recovers from a terrifying car crash
Page 6: Queen Elizabeth announced in a statement that her grandson Prince Harry and his pregnant wife Meghan Markle wouldn't be returning as working royals, noting that it was no longer possible for them to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service, and almost immediately, Harry and Meghan shot back with a seemingly rude reply, saying we can all live a life of service and service is universal -- no one was more disappointed in Harry's response than his brother Prince William and William finds this behavior both baffling and sickening and he can't get his head around it and William feels the family has been understanding and fair while Harry and Meghan continue to sit on their high horse flinging insults and from William's perspective there is simply no excuse for snide and ego-driven swipes made towards the queen -- especially right now, since three days prior to Her Majesty's statement, Prince Philip was rushed to a London hospital and the queen's been worried sick about her husband and should not be dealing with this added stress -- the whole situation has left William feeling hopeless and he fears Harry is too wrapped up in his own self-importance to see the hurt he's caused and that is unforgivable in William's eyes
Page 7: As Soleil Moon Frye's messy divorce drags on, a loyal pal from the past is providing a shoulder to cry on in Brian Austin Green who she reconnected with while shooting her upcoming documentary Kid 90 -- Brian can feel her pain because he's still hashing out his split from Megan Fox so he knows exactly what Soleil is going through -- they've been friends for more than 30 years and they're going to see each other through this tough time
* Tom Cruise got all pumped up for Mission: Impossible 7, but now that filming has wrapped, he's desperate to stay in fighting shape for the next installment -- Tom was thrown for a loop when the studio postponed filming M:I 8 instead of shooting the movies back-to-back so now he's putting himself through the wringer doing crunches, pullups, squats and weights but Tom's brutal, military-style workouts have friends and loved ones, including his rumored new girlfriend, M:I7 costar Hayley Atwell, worried that he could be pushing himself to the breaking point and everyone wants him to take it down a notch, but he won't listen -- physically, Tom still thinks he's invincible, but the fact is he'll be turning 60 in less than two years and if he keeps going at this pace, there's a big change he's going to do some serious damage
* Life has been twice as nice for Christine Quinn since she found out she was expecting -- the Selling Sunset star, who's pregnant with her and businessman husband Christian Richard's first child, isn't holding back when it comes to treating herself -- the famously free-spending realtor has been splurging on designer maternity clothes and lingerie to lounge around in at her L.A. mansion and she has flowers delivered daily for every room in the house

Page 30: Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott have taken the next step in their almost two-year relationship: they've secretly tied the knot -- they've been talking about getting married for about a year and just decided to go for it and the intimate ceremony took place in front of a few family members at Jonathan's Las Vegas home on Valentine's Day and it was spur of the moment, but that's how Zooey likes to do things and now Jonathan too and they put it together in a matter of days and everyone got a verbal invite to come -- Zooey wore a Bohemian-inspired gown and flowers in her hair while Jonathan wore an all-white suit and Zooey serenaded Jonathan with a love song she had written -- guests including Jonathan's twin brother Drew Scott and sister-in-law Linda Phan were treated to a gourmet buffet and video and arcade games -- now the couple's eager to grow their family and Jonathan will be a great stepdad to Zooey's children Elsie and Charlie but he's been saying for months that he can't wait to have kids of his own and they've already started trying
Page 31: Blake Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds are one of the most charitable couples in Hollywood and now the big-hearted duo are ready to take the next step by adopting a baby in need -- Blake and Ryan who share daughters James, Inez and Betty have donated millions of dollars to organizations working to protect the rights of immigrant children separated from their families and awaiting deportation -- day by day they've been warming up to the idea of providing an orphan with a forever home -- Ryan jokes that Blake is a baby machine who would have no trouble getting pregnant again, but their hearts really go out to these kids
* Ever since Bridgerton became a monster hit, the sizzling chemistry between Rege-Jean Page and costar Phoebe Dynevor has fans convinced that they're an offscreen item as well, but Rege-Jean's girlfriend Emily Brown is fed up with keeping their real-life romance under wraps and she's starting to feel like Rege's dirty little secret -- Emily has been dating Rege for two years and shares a home with him in East London -- the show's producers have been happy to let the rumors about Rege and Phoebe fly because it made their steamy sex scenes that much more believable -- Emily, a part-time soccer player and copywriter from Manchester, loves to go to pubs and party, which she and Rege used to do before the show came out -- Rege insists that keeping their relationship on the down-low is no big deal, but Emily wants everyone to know that the hunky Duke of Hastings is spoken for
* Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have got the parenting thing down pat, and they're ready to share their know-how by penning a how-to manual -- their friends have been begging them for advice for years and Mila and Ashton make having kids look like a fun adventure and for them, it really is -- now that Ashton has wrapped up shooting his new thriller Vengeance, he and Mila finally have a little downtime and the handbook will include the duo's dos and don'ts for raising their children Wyatt and Dimitri like they never argue in front of the kids and make sure to treat them equally -- Mila's the stricter one and Ashton's the softie, but it's a team effort and it works and they admit it can get a bit chaotic, but they don't sweat the small stuff
Page 32: New parents Kit Harington and Rose Leslie may be in baby heaven, but they're dealing with the home renovation from hell -- the Game of Thrones alums, who recently welcomed their first child, have been up to their ears fixing up their 15th-century country manor, which is turning out to be a huge money pit -- Kit and Rose bought the $2.4 million spread shortly before tying the knot in 2018 and had no idea what they were getting into and the couple got hit by sticker shock when they finally got their plans approved to put in a new kitchen, master bath, pipes and flooring and it's going to cost them an extra half a million at least -- they still think it's the perfect place to raise a family, but overseeing an army of builders and designers with a newborn at home is leading to some serious sleep deprivation
* As Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles' romance heats up, the couple is planning a heart-to-heart with her ex-fiance Jason Sudeikis -- after filming wrapped on their movie Don't Worry (for the love of all that's holy, please put in a comma) Darling, the lovebirds flew to London to meet with Jason, who's been on the set of Ted Lasso in England because Olivia, who shares two kids with Jason, wants to clear the air and have a calm conversation about how everyone moves forward from here, and she wants Jason to realize that Harry is here to stay and Olivia needs Jason to understand this is a serious relationship, whether he likes it or not
* Baby Boom -- these celebs recently welcomed little ones -- Wilmer Valderrama and fiancee Amanda Pacheco welcomed a baby girl, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahones and fiancee Brittany Matthews welcomed a daughter named Sterling Skye, Mandy Moore and Taylor Goldsmith welcomed a son named August Harrison

YOU - Season 2 - Episode 1
Hi Youlinas! OMG...sitting here BALD after watching the 1st episode of our beloved YOU, season 2. EP. 1 spoilers ahead - tread lightly!
After a lovely recap of the first season (RIP Beck, RIP Peach, RIP Peach’s Goyard tote), we are dropped off in sunny LA with Joe looking the same in his Ted Bundy-ass, bookish-ass outfit and forever-furrowed brow. He explains that he detests influencers as he walks through hordes of them posing against one of those Insta-walls on his way to his new hacienda. Classic. Delilah is the first new character we meet and she reminds me of a Sephora makeup artist even though she’s a reporter and landlord. Ok career Barbie! Joe introduces himself as “Will Bettelheim” which definitely has potential to be confusing. She lets Joe (Will?) into his new minimal LA digs and tells him not to cook meth in the kitchen.
The next character we meet is a little balcony thot, who approaches Joe with a fistful of licorice and a whole lot of attitude. Her name is Ellie and she’s already getting on my nerves, but I’m pretty sure that’s her goal - so, kudos, babe. We learn that Ellie and Delilah are sisters. Delilah warns Will (Joe?) that she will “vivisect” his “individual scrotums” if he lays a hand on Ellie. Weird thing to say considering I think there’s only one scrotum, right? Can you have two scrotums? Wouldn’t that require four testicles? Doctor? Doctor?
Next, Joe wanders into ANAVRIN (Nirvana spelled backwards LOL stop), which is a fictional Whole Foods-leaning supermarket, to find a job. Of course, he lands a gig on the spot - working in the book nook. Yeah, ok, so there’s a corner of books...in some part of this Valencia-filtered grocery store? I’d love to see a floorplan of the place to better understand the geography.
And then we meet the new Beck: Love Quinn. The first words she utters to Joe are “Does this peach look like a butt?” Which is kind of slutty for an opening line but kind of endearing and quirky, too. She’s pretty, duh, and looks exactly like the person Joe would stalk: like she gets her jeans at Madewell and her gourdes at ANAVRIN. The two engage in a really well-written flirting session amidst the heirloom tomatoes and we learn that Love works at ANAVRIN, too! How convenient! Every time I type ANAVRIN I lose brain cells so I might have to come up with an alternative.
While at...The Store, we meet another new character, Forty (huh? lol) and he immediately surpasses Ellie as the most punchable. He says a lot of stupid stuff and then walks away, so Joe goes over to Love and she gives him a scone. He takes it, walks behind a pile of crates, and begins to whack off to the thought of Love. He comes to his senses and knows that he SHOULDN’T be fantasizing about her (or, um, masturbating on a pile of crates next to a half eaten scone while AT WORK?). Nice will power, Joe. We love to see it.
Joe gets Ellie a new phone because he threw her old one off the roof because she was filming him walking down the street for a school project. No, I know. But this gives the two a chance to bond in the hacienda courtyard. Ellie teaches Joe how to brand himself on the ‘gram, which is sweet even if her advice kinda sucks. So, he follows said advice and spends time taking pictures of carousels and books, naturally. While in the park, he sees a girl taking photos for her quinceanera and then falls asleep against a tree. He wakes up burnt to a beautiful Cloud-Paint-in-Storm-esque crisp because he never had to deal with the sun in New York.
Later, somehow, Love finds his address and barges in while he’s making himself ramen noodles. She rubs Apple Cider Vinegar on his burnt face and then admonishes him for not eating quality food and reading Joan Didion everyday. We can’t all be perfect like YOU, Love! But then, generous as can be, she vows to make him fall in love with LA. Because time doesn’t exist in TV shows, the pair run around Los Angeles eating tacos and dumplings and finally end up at The Store, all in the span of what feels like what Blair Waldorf’s commute to Brooklyn would’ve been.
Once inside, they shop for gorgeous fresh ingredients by the light of the lettuce showers (a vibe) and then retire to the kitchen where we learn that Love went to cooking school and is also a widow. Ok colorful past! She makes Joe some roasted chicken and then basically force feeds it to him.
Throughout the episode, we see flashbacks of Joe’s last encounter with Candace, in which she orders fries (with a side or ranch, ew) and then vows to ruin his fucking life. So now Candace is hunting Joe, which is why he relocated to the place he hates most: LA. Ok, it’s coming together!
The episode ends with Ellie painting her toes on the hacienda stairs in the middle of the night because she drank too many (14) Frappucinos to sleep. She tells Joe that a creepy guy named Jasper stopped by to collect something from him.
This, of course, is where everything gets all fucked up like we knew it would. Apparently, Joe didn’t just happen on Love. He’s been following her. He might even be the reason she’s a widow. No, I know! Wig! Joe, sunburnt and on a mission, goes to his storage unit at Lock of Fame (ha) and it’s revealed that he has the same set up he did in the basement of the book store. Hell yeah, the glass box is back! And it’s occupied by some rando! Is that Love’s dead husband? Who’s actually alive? I have no idea. But I can’t wait to find out...

U.S. Adds More Iran Sanctions Despite Coronavirus Crisis
Morning Brief: U.S. adds more Iran sanctions, the Italy’s coronavirus death toll grows, and U.S.-Canada border closes.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the move addresses “funding of terror and other destabilizing activities” following Camp Taji strikes.
— By Colm Quinn | March 19, 2020 | Foreign Policy
Tumblr media
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo speaks at a press conference with limited numbers of journalists due to the coronavirus outbreak, at the State Department in Washington DC, on March 17, 2020.
As Iran Adds More Coronavirus Cases, U.S. Adds More Sanctions
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced further sanctions on Iran on Wednesday, citing the recent rocket attacks in Taji, Iraq, that killed two U.S. service members. According to a statement by Pompeo, the sanctions target “nine entities and three inviduals” mostly from Iran’s petrochemical industry that “provide revenue to the regime that it may use to fund terror and other destabilizing activities.”
On the eve of the Persian New Year, Nowruz, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif called on the international community to end the “collective punishment” brought on by U.S. sanctions, saying it was “virtually impossible” to buy medicine and medical equipment.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who trails former Vice President Joe Biden in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, called for immediate relief for Iran, “As a caring nation, we must lift any sanctions hurting Iran’s ability to address this crisis, including financial sanctions,” he said on Twitter.
How bad is Iran’s coronavirus crisis? Iran’s health ministry puts the coronavirus death toll at 1,135. However, World Health Organization official Rick Brennan said that figure is likely five times higher, citing lack of adequate testing in Iran. If such figures are being underreported, it would outpace even Italy’s death toll from the pandemic—so far the worst-hit country outside China.
How do sanctions restrict medical supplies? As Esfandyar Batmanghelidj and Abbas Kebriaeezadeh argued in Foreign Policy earlier this month, Iran produces many key products domestically, but “The Iranian companies producing medicine, disinfectants, and protective clothing also have a supply-chain problem; they are dependent on imported ingredients and materials.” And even if they can overcome that obstacle, “U.S. secondary sanctions have restricted humanitarian trade with Iran by scaring off most banks from facilitating the necessary payments.”
Is there a chance of easing sanctions? Speaking to Reuters on Monday one unnamed U.S. official outlined the feeling within the Trump administration, “The regime can’t be trusted to channel whatever money it would gain from the easing of pressure toward humanitarian activity. The likelihood is the elites will steal it and/or funnel it toward malign activity,” the official said. According to reporting in The Guardian, the United Kingdom is working behind the scenes to persuade the U.S. government to roll back sanctions.
Could the crisis be an opportunity? Writing in Foreign Policy on Tuesday, Robert Malley and Ali Vaez of the International Crisis Group argued that Iran’s coronavirus crisis is a diplomatic opportunity for both sides to dial down tensions and show goodwill, while also achieving some of their diplomatic objectives.
What We’re Following Today
ECB announces stimulus. The European Central Bank announced Wednesday night that it will begin an economic stimulus program worth €750 billion ($815 billion). It includes a temporary asset purchase program to ease the economic disruption of the coronavirus outbreak and should last until the end of 2020. The ECB intends to buy both public and private securities.
“Extraordinary times require extraordinary action,” ECB chief Christine Lagarde wrote on Twitter. “There are no limits to our commitment to the euro. We are determined to use the full potential of our tools, within our mandate.”
U.S.-Canada border closes. U.S. President Donald Trump and his counterpart Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have agreed to close the U.S.-Canada border to non-essential travel as both countries manage the spread of the coronavirus. In a joint statement, the two leaders said they would “preserve supply chains and trade, regardless of travel restrictions.”
Italy considers exercise ban as death toll rises. Italy is considering banning outdoor solitary exercise as it struggles under the weight of its coronavirus epidemic, the worst in Europe. Italy is in a de facto lockdown and police have already stopped 1 million residents for breaking the newly enforced restrictions. “I believe that in the coming hours we will have to consider the possibility of a complete ban on outdoor activities,” Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora told the state broadcaster. Italy reported 475 coronavirus-related deaths within the last 24 hours, its largest death toll increase yet.
Brazil’s Senate leader tests positive. Davi Alcolumbre, the head of Brazil’s Senate, has tested positive for the coronavirus, although his office said his symptoms are mild. Alcolumbre is the latest in a string of Brazilian officials to contract the virus. The results of President Jair Bolsonaro’s second coronavirus test have not been reported.
Keep an Eye On
Kosovo government on edge. Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has fired Interior Minister Agim Veliu after a dispute over whether to declare a state of emergency over the coronavirus pandemic. Veliu publicly backed Kosovo’s president Hashim Thaci, who has urged the government to make the declaration. A member of a coalition party in Kurti’s government said they would withdraw their support for the prime minister if he did not reinstate Veliu, opening the possibility of a collapse in government less than two months since its formation. Kosovo has 19 confirmed cases of coronavirus, with no recorded deaths.
U.S. envoy urges Afghan prisoner release. Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. envoy for peace in Afghanistan, has called for prisoner releases agreed under the February 29 Taliban peace deal to begin “as soon as possible,” citing the urgency of the coronavirus pandemic. As part of the agreement, 5,000 Taliban prisoners were to be released before the group and the Afghan government were to continue peace talks. President Ashraf Ghani initially announced he would release the prisoners in stages, a move the Taliban condemned.
Waziristan clash. Four members of Pakistan’s security forces were killed in a raid on a Pakistani militant group in Waziristan, according to a statement from Pakistani officials. Seven militants were also killed in the raid, which recovered caches of bombs and ammunition.
Life under lockdown. Foreign Policy’s Keith Johnson reports from his home in Madrid, and gives a preview of what life in a locked down country can be like—including run-ins with police while taking out the trash. Also in FP, Laurie Garrett says it’s time to prepare for a total lockdown in the United States.
Odds and Ends
As world leaders compare the battle against coronavirus to World War II, a wartime echo is reverberating in the United Kingdom: rationing. Major grocery stores are restricting purchases in bulk, allowing customers to buy only three of each item. The online delivery service Ocado temporarily shut down its website due to overwhelming demand. Supermarkets are also closing salad bars and deli counters to cut down on waste. Trump Admin Tightens Sanctions That Have Devastated Iran’s Public Health System!

In Iran, Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will pardon 10,000 additional prisoners, including political prisoners, as the official death toll from coronavirus topped 1,100 — though the WHO believes the true number is five times higher. Iran’s prisoner release came as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the Trump administration was imposing new sanctions on Iran to “deprive the regime of critical income from its petrochemical industry and further Iran’s economic and diplomatic isolation.” Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders tweeted in response, “U.S. sanctions should not be contributing to this humanitarian disaster. As a caring nation, we must lift any sanctions hurting Iran’s ability to address this crisis, including financial sanctions.”
“What a Shame?”

BIOGRAPHY:
On the 28th of May, 1992 a little baby boy was born in Sumiton, Alabama. He was baptized Joseph Abraham Hart, Jr. and was the first son of Joseph Hart, Sr. and his wife, Rebecca. His parents were both 21 years old when they had him and had both just completed their missionary training. That is why the young family didn’t stay in Alabama for long. When he was only six months old, his parents up and left for Congo where they lived for two years to preach the gospel. There, his little sister Sarah was born just before they packed up and moved again.
In the beginning of the year 1995, they left Congo to go to Brazil. He and his family lived there for five years and welcomed three new children into the family: in January of 1996 his brother Elijah and in December of that same year, his second brother Solomon was born. In 1999, his mother gave birth to his new sister, Ruth. Joe, as he was called by his parents to avoid confusion, loved Brazil. He loved his friends and soaked up the Portuguese language like a sponge. He became as fluent as his friends and helped his father translate his sermons from the time he was six. He also acted out the Bible stories his father told the people of the villages and that is when the seed for his love for acting was planted. He continued to do this for several years and got increasingly better at it. He is still fluent in Portuguese to this day, but that isn’t the only language he learned throughout his childhood because soon, they’d move again.
He considered Brazil his home until he was seven. Then he was told they had to go again, that his parents were to go to India. He had cried silently when they left their village, the village he had always known as home. His little sister Sarah was upset too, so his father reprimanded him. He was a boy; he wasn’t supposed to cry. He was supposed to be strong and be there for his younger siblings. He had to make them feel safe, so he dried his tears and did what he was told. “Thou shall not disobey your parents” is what the Bible says, so that is what Joe did.
His time in India ended up being quite interesting as well. His family lived there from March of 2000 until May of 2002. Joe learned quite a bit of Hindi in his time there but he didn’t make friends that easily. He knew that any day, they could move again. He knew that the attachment would only lead to heartache. Instead he became more focused on his faith, which honestly was the only constant in his life. He had always just gone along with what his parents said, the words they quoted at him. When he was nine, he started to read the Bible for himself, making notes and writing down his interpretations in a little brown notebook. It took him until he was twelve to finish the Bible and then he started again, rewriting and correcting his notes.
When he was twelve and read the last page of the Bible he was in a completely different place than when he read the first page of said book. He was in Chile now and they were packing up to move back to Alabama. He now had two more brothers, named Isaac and Jeremiah who were twins and about a year old. His parents had gotten weary of the travelling and wanted a quiet life back at home in Alabama. Joe wasn’t sure what to make of it. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to move back. He’d hoped they’d go back to Brazil and this America which his parents spoke so fondly of, he had absolutely no affinity for whatsoever.
His father became a door-to-door Bible salesman and his family could barely make ends meet. His mother was a housewife and cared for Joe and his six siblings, but it weighed heavily on her. Normally, his father was around to help but now, he was on the road six days of the week. That is why Joe stepped up and helped his mother out with the children. He did the preparations for dinner, he changed diapers, potty-trained the boys, disciplined his siblings when necessary and gave them the necessary religious guidance they needed. He also did pretty much all the ‘dad’ stuff. He went fishing with his siblings, taught them how to throw a ball and made his little sisters feel like princesses. He started caring a little less for his siblings when he went to a public high school for the first time, when he was around 16. He was tired of being locked away in his house. He wanted to make some friends, get a taste of what life was like and boy, what a taste he got.
During the first day of his sophomore year, which was his first school day, he walked around with his mouth agape. He couldn’t believe how some boys and girls were openly kissing (read: making out!), how short the skirts of certain girls were and how low cut tops were. He couldn’t believe the curse words he heard and how so many people took the Lord’s name in vain. He almost didn’t want to go back to that place again, that place full of sinners! He talked it over with his father, over the phone, who told him Jesus preferred the company of sinners for a reason. That did change his mind and he decided to go back. He still considers that to be the best decision of his life.
He went back and discovered that those people he had gaped at, that he had prayed for so they would not go to hell were not all that bad. They may not all believe the same things he believed, but they were kind, giving and open to him. His best friend, Alex, taught him how to play the guitar and another classmate, Lisa always saved a seat for him in the classes they shared together. The three of them became inseparable until the end of Senior year. The trio discovered that they had a common interest in acting and joined the afterschool drama club. They put on a few plays and even a self-made musical.
Joe wasn’t aware of it, but he was the best student in the drama club. His teacher approached him though, telling him to take acting classes. When Joe explained his family’s financial situation, the teacher offered to teach him privately for free. He taught him how to sing and act and laid the foundation that would eventually lead Joe to Los Angeles because now, Joe had a very clear goal in life. He wanted to act and perform.
After senior year, Joe started working as a cashier in a local grocery store. He was intelligent but had not gotten a scholarship and there was simply no money for college. He had a plan though. He’d save up enough money to pay for a plane ticket to Los Angeles and to make sure he could live off his savings for a few weeks. He trusted that the Lord would care for him and would lead him to where he was supposed to go.
It broke his heart to leave his family behind and move to Los Angeles but he felt that he had to do it, that there was something great waiting for him. His parents told him to follow his heart and what the Spirit guided him to do. They had once been risk takers and travelers too, and they loved that their eighteen-year-old son was so much like them.
His first months in Los Angeles were tough. There were nights where he had no place to sleep and days that he didn’t eat but he auditioned for everything he could… He prayed three times a day, a practice that kept him going. He was about to give up though, tired of the rejection and the emptiness of his existence… and then it happened. He landed his first role in a Christian movie. He played a son of Noah in a movie aimed at children, to explain to them the story of The Ark. He worked for the same Christian movie company until about two months ago. It allowed him to make a name for himself as a Christian actor and it paid enough so he could rent an apartment with three other Christian guys he knew from church.
It was one of those friends who told him that there was a chance to audition for a part in a mainstream TV series. It was called Performing the Arts and considering they were looking for an actor who could sing as well, Joe would be a perfect fit. Joe decided to just give it a try, not thinking that he’d land anything. He couldn’t believe it when he was cast as Jesús Martinez. He almost cried when he got the call to tell him that he’d gotten the role of Jesús Martinez, but not for the reasons you might think. He was afraid. He would be playing a character who was openly bisexual and the child of a lesbian. He didn’t know how that was going to go over with his fans and family. He wasn’t even sure how he felt about it! He’d always seen homosexuality in all its forms as impure and against God. How was he going to play this character in an honest and true fashion? What would he do if the script told him to do something that he considered immoral, such as kissing a man? He could have declined it; he knew that but the same feeling that he got about going to Los Angeles came over him. He had to do it.
This decision had some consequences though. His father hasn’t spoken to him since he found out and the Christian movie producer he worked for made it very clear that he will never star in another film of theirs again. Everything is riding on this role now. Joe must make sure that this role makes it possible for him to break into the mainstream entertainment business because where he came from has nothing more to offer him…
YOUR CHARACTER’S HEAD CANON FOR THEIR CHARACTER: Joe’s head canon for Jesús is that he is a great dancer, in addition to being a great musician. He has always hidden behind his guitar because it makes him feel safe but also because dancing was something his father disapproved of. He saw it as too feminine and not as something that his son should be doing. When he’d been caught trying to pirouette when he was ten years old, his father had made him feel so embarrassed that he hasn’t danced since that moment. At least not with the door unlocked. He dances every day, before and after school in his room and has gotten very good at it. Joe hopes that one of the other characters in the series will stumble upon Jesús dancing and convince him to take lessons and develop his talent more.
