MALEVOLENT SEXYMAN TOURNAMENT

Hellooooo everybody and welcome to the newly created very lovely very exciting Malevolent sexyman tournament! This is a tournament I've made in collaboration with @buggnome for us to determine the absolute sexiest character in the hit horror podcast Malevolent! Yes, I said podcast, no, these characters don't have canon designs, and yes, we all know who's probably going to win. All part of the fun!

This tournament will start off with 32 characters and run for 5 rounds. Each of the polls will run for three days (yes, three days instead of a week, because if it runs too long I WILL forget about this thing). Propaganda in the notes is encouraged but I won't facilitate it in the polls themselves. The tag to follow is #Malevolentsexymantournament for updates on the polls and such.

WARNING: there is a VERY MILD spoiler in the very bottom right for the latest De Capo episode! It is out of context and just a meaningless title, but if you're trying to be 100% spoiler free then here's your warning! Additionally, if you are not caught up to... mid Season5ish, there will be a few more spoilers just in the format of names. I don't think it's too bad, but nobody say I didn't warn you!

having thoughts about Arthur's "Tomorrow I can start fresh" in 26 with his wanting to kill Larson before dawn so he can be a new person with the sunrise, killing Uncle as dawn approaches and gouging out his eyes, and John realized it's dawn post bedrock moment, when Arthur says "I’m not ready to give up on fixing my mistakes. I don’t want to give up on this. I’m not ready to." and Kayne's whole "And what’s more… I can start fresh." in 52, as dawn breaks, right before the whole monologue and the "I'm going to put all our the darkness behind us" and then gouging out Arthur's eyes.

also parallels to John "you've beaten yourself enough over this" with Arthur for killing Uncle and Arthur immediately forgiving John for whatever happened in the Dark World

And of course there's Arthur's "you killed her" while he's killing Uncle - turning onto Uncle his anger and pain at Larson and himself for Addison and Faroe - and Kayne's "who let his daughter die" while killing Arthur.

Larson: what the fuck. I wanted to use and manipulate that man for my own selfish reasons. Why am I feeling feelings towards him.

Another fic I'd like to write is AU of the Order where Arthur and John get forced into the machine to be seperated, but Yellow betrays Larson and does a switch. John gets put in Larson and Yellow goes into Arthur.

He does this for a number of reasons.

Arthur is right, Larson is absolutely trying to play him and Yellow has no reason to believe in humans.

He wants Arthur (and John) to suffer and he knows not only seperation, but also claiming Arthur's body would make them suffer.

He doesn't want to meld with John. He doesn't want John's 'weakness.'

He has fancy powers now from remembering he was the king. He can manifest and take control beyond just Arthur's eyes now so he's not worried about being a prisoner in Arthur's body. Now he would hold all the cards. Basically he has almost full control of Arthur's body when he wants to.

Larson is dying, but Arthur, Arthur was able to open the book. Was always meant to be the King in Yellow's vessal. Arthur should be able to actually hold his form without keeling over.

Beyond suffering Yellow also wants to make Arthur acknowledge him. Despite 'hating' him he also hates that Arthur doesn't care about him. Why does he care about John and not him? And no friendship is not the answer stop saying friendship. Worship him Arthur argh!

Also featuring John and Larson forced to work together because Yellow is keeping them around, but only so that he can figure out/torture/taunt John. Larson basically went from the head of the Order to kept in a cell for convience. The rest of the Order is completely fine with this reverse uno card and happy to follow Yellow's commands.

As you can imagine, John and Larson don't get along at first.

like. something that really struck me during saw x is the stark difference in the way amanda treats male subjects vs female ones, and it's something that's also very apparent in ii and iii. she's kinder to the women and wants them to win - and even when she's playing the role of the docile taunting apprentice, she has fun with it. like it's flirting for her. it's definitely something that lends credibility to lesbian readings of amanda (something i am always shocked isn't like, canon) but it's also very...heavy, given the way men have treated amanda all her life. john and hoffman and cecil and her father in the original saw iii script. what amanda knows from men is manipulation and violence and i think it's a very powerful feeling for her, to get to be the one making men scared of her. i don't think she enjoys watching people suffer, but i think she enjoys not being the victim for once in her life.

it's also important that the two women involved in games she helps orchestrate that she DOESN'T feel sympathy for or find any connection with are kerry and cecilia. kerry, who was close to eric matthews and wanted him to be alive and well even AFTER finding out that he was violent and corrupt and planted evidence. and cecilia, who preyed on desperate and innocent people and either conned them or manipulated them into doing her bidding. women who either allowed her to be harmed or harmed people like her.

and god. it kills me that amanda is able to see herself in gabriela and recognise that cecilia manipulated her and used her as a pawn. but she isn't able to see that john, like so many men in amanda's life before him, is doing the exact same thing.

Can you imagine Steven Spielberg humiliating his composer John Williams in public?

That’s what happened during the post-production of Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “Torn Curtain”.

As Bernard Herrmann, who had delivered the goodies on Hitchcock’s classic movies - the screeching violin in “Psycho”, the obsessive motifs of “Vertigo” - was recording his new score, Hitchcock shut the recording session down and stormed off.

He then did what the studio had been suggesting all along by going for a “younger” type of music. (You can read “younger” as less edgy and melodic instead of rhythmic.)

The 100% melodic British film composer John Addison took the baton and wrote a romantic score with some spy movie elements. He created a Cold War, Eastern-European mood with very simple means, for instance.

Addison is best known for scoring the epic World War II movie “A Bridge Too Far” (Richard Attenborough).

Uncanny detail: as a young man, tank commander Addison participated in the Normandy landings and got wounded during the tank battle that liberated the French city Caen. Operation “Market Garden”, shown by Attenborough, came after operation “Goodwood”, the invasion.

I always have thoughts (I can't be asked to rename this- Rigged traps and etc thinking)

We discuss Amanda rigging her traps so much and it has to be one of the most depressing aspects of her character. It’s somewhat obvious that she doesn’t actually think she should’ve survived her own test, which is why she doesn’t believe that anyone else should either- Amongst other factors.

I sometimes wonder whether she’d come to this conclusion without having to go through as much as she did. For example, if Gabriela hadn’t died and let’s say Cecilia did? If Adam somehow escaped… Or was Amanda always destined to doubt John’s ideology and be doomed. The reason she stuck around was because of him really, not anything to do with the ‘’rehabilitation���’ of others. She always tends to react negatively in the face of any game too. With Saw X I think we literally get to watch any hope Amanda has for John’s methods be crushed. I always get confused with the timeline but with a quick search this movie falls between the first Saw movie and Saw 2… Anyway the bathroom trap, Amanda is quite removed from the game itself, even though she is slightly one of the reasons Adam fails with how carelessly she throws the key. The most hands on Amanda gets in regards to this test is when she brings Adam to the bathroom and then also when she returns to suffocate him. 

But if we look at the traps for the scammers? Amanda plays a very active role in their test throughout the entire process. She not only brings them to the location, but she interacts with them whilst they’re playing their game. Amanda seems to be rooting for Gabriela, being quite empathetic to the younger woman’s struggle with addiction…. And in a sense, Cecilia is Gabriela’s John? Because to me both Cecilia and John are kinda predatory, just in different ways.

John knew of Amanda from the fact she was a patient in the Homeward Bound Clinic, testing her in her own words because she was a ‘’fucking junkie.’’ So he puts this clearly mentally unstable woman in a reverse bear trap and when she survives the ordeal, John proceeds to use her misplaced gratitude to recruit her. However, I do think there is genuine care between them, it’s just a shame the one person Amanda latches on to is JIGSAW. Whereas with Cecilia, she targets Gabriela because it’s easy to hire an employee whose main focus and drive is money. You can say that’s most workers and sure it is! But addiction can blur and shift your morals by a lot. The same way that Amanda got Cecil to attempt to rob the clinic, I don’t believe Gabriela is focused on the good and bad of what she’s doing. She is purely focused on funding her drugs, making her very easy to be taken advantage of. This could have been Amanda in another life. 

Back on track though- Another little detail that always makes me sigh is the fact that Amanda likely was the one to put Valentina’s hair up for her. It’s such a simple consideration and that is what makes it all the more saddening to me. She then watches with her own two eyes, almost every single one of their deaths… EXCEPT CECILIA WHO SURVIVES AND IS THE REASON GABRIELA DIED. Shit man. I’d crash out too. Like, what do you mean the person behind the scam in the first place and who has just stomped on another human being's neck like she’s killing a bug is the person who wins this? What because she did it in the time frame? Because she physically overpowered the other person within her test and KILLED him. That’s who we’re letting out??? Gabriela won but died and even someone like Valentina actually was successful in cutting off her own leg, she just didn’t have enough time. Oh! Did I mention this happens in Saw 2… Like so much of this is a repeat. Xavier physically overpowers almost everyone else in that group, throwing Amanda into a needle pit and killing Jonas. Laura did about nothing wrong except shoplifting and having Eric frame her, yet she succumbs to the poison and dies in Amanda’s arms. Oh! AND SOMEHOW THERE IS A MINOR IN BOTH OF THESE GAMES, DANIEL IS JUST A FUCKING TEENAGER AND CARLOS IS A CHILD!!! DID I MENTION WE HAVE SEX WORKERS HERE TOO? BYE VALENTINA. BYE ADDISON. Oh and people being forced into traps not intended for them. Amanda was never meant to go in the needle pit and a whole CHILD shouldn't be BLOODBOARDED.

All of this is so close together timeline wise too. Amanda is catching no breaks and that’s why it’s not surprising given these circumstances that she’d become unhinged and start actually just murdering people. Might as well everyone else seems to be doing it and getting far. But, let's say things were different as mentioned. Gabriela survived… Laura survived… Adam survived…. So on so forth. Would she have her existential crisis crash out? Because her belief nobody changes is partially engraved in her experiences with others but also based upon herself. If she was helped the first time, why did she keep getting tested? If not the fact of her drug addiction, what was wrong with her? The fact she still self harmed even after surviving the whole ordeal with the bear trap? AMANDA WHAT YOU COULD’VE BEEN IF YOU LATCHED ON TO JILL INSTEAD.

Like I know it's because John's method worked in comparison to the standard rehabilitation but God.

I think the one decision of Arthur's that I'll never understand, is not telling John about what Larson did to Addison.

I think of all things, that would have convinced John at the very least of *why* Arthur was so hellbent on murder. John knows the guilt Arthur carries over Faroes death, refused to say her name even, back when they were first reunited! John knows what Faroe means to Arthur, and if he knew what Larson did, he would see the full picture of Arthurs guilt and anger.

Just something thats been planning me since I first listened to part 3, months ago
