my god. guys. just gotta scream about some medical stuff for a second. you know how i've been ill for quite some time. like really nastily ill. bizarre migraines, constant fatigue/joint pain, awful depressive mood swings? well, alongside some proper migraine meds, my doctor prescribed me vitamin D tablets. and the black cloud is gone. the fatigue is gone. the pain is gone. what!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭 this reinforces my belief that vitamin/mineral deficiencies can be extra insidious for neurodivergent folks because we're so used to ignoring our pain, and our difficulties with eating a wide range of foods/getting outside enough/breaking our routine/etc. set us up to be deficient!! 💔
to be clear, my doctor and the NHS say that folks in my country ought to be taking vitamin D supplements during the winter months anyway. it's actually mandated for everyone and i had no idea. just. enormous relief. getting my bloods done in a couple of weeks to confirm, but i wasn't expecting such an immediate effect 😳 so if anyone's been feeling unusually fatigued, sick, with disturbed menstrual cycles, migraines and moodswings, and there's no underlying cause...see if you can get your bloods checked, and consult with your doctor. especially if you're ND/get less sunlight/have a restricted diet!!!!

Dancing in nature's arms
Each day begins in a tangle of emotions,
a bittersweet symphony playing softly in my heart,
as I pick up a few of your favourite yellow balls, that shine like sun.
Each one, a reminder of laughter and barks of joy, of races we ran across the field.
You, with your gleaming coat, dashing in zig-zags and chasing shadows,
while I, a mere speck in your universe, could only marvel at the delight in your eyes.
Oh, how bright the days were,
when the sun painted our afternoons,
the two of us lost in our own world,
you bounding into muddy puddles, wings of happiness spreading wide.
Each plop and splash, a symphony of glee,
muddy paws leaving imprints of love,
as you danced in nature’s arms,
with every heartbeat echoing our bond,
as warm as the sun overhead.
But unfortunately time, relentless and unseen- began to weave its quiet threads.
The vibrant strokes of our story faded,
replaced with muted hues of struggle.
Arthritis came,
an unwelcome visitor,
unbidden and cruel,
stealing the ease from your movements,
and coiling around your fragile bones,
slowing the once-whirlwind of spirit.
Each sluggish step a reminder of what was,
and what could no longer be.
I tried to fight it. We both did.
Joint supplements, large quantities of tablets filled with hope, and sprinkled into your meals like wishes.
Pain relief wrapped your nights in a fragile cocoon of comfort,
and physiotherapy became our ritual-
sessions of tender work and soft determination, a rhythm that bought us moments,
days,
weeks,
months,
and even years,
a precious sliver of borrowed time.
For a while, it seemed enough.
You still chased the sun,
though your steps were slower,
your leaps gentler.
And so I held on,
to the fabric of our days together,
to the rhythm of your breaths,
each exhale, a wish and a promise,
that here, love would remain,
in every corner of our home,
in the warmth of the sun that streamed through the window of the living room,
the soft cushions of the couch,
where we spent afternoons, lost in the softness of togetherness.
On the hardest days,
when the pain wrapped around you
like a shroud, pulling you deeper into shadows,
I would take you gently to the water,
to swim beneath the arch of the sky,
where the light sparkled like diamonds on the surface,
and we would forget, if only for a little while,
the ache and the confines of this earthly realm,
your body buoyant in the healing embrace of the sea.
Together we would play,
with laughter and barks breaking the silence,
as you splashed, relishing the cool caress,
your spirit darting like the fish below,
and I, awash in the purity of that moment,
would brush away the dust of pain,
let it float away like the ripples on the water,
each wave whispering, “Here, now,
in this beat of life, you are free.”
Even as seasons turn and days wane,
the bonds of love tightened and frayed,
the threads weaving hearts together,
the hours ticking away like slow, fading echoes.
and there came a day-- even borrowed time has its limits.....
The therapies that once held back the tide, began to falter,
and then,
your back legs refused to carry you.
I never truly understood, not until that moment,
what people meant when they said, "Let him tell you he's ready."
But then you looked into my eyes, and I knew.
Your gaze held no fear, no pain—
only love, and a quiet surrender.
"Mum," you seemed to say,
"It's my time."
The weight of your words, unspoken yet clear,
pressed heavy on my heart.
Through the tears,
I made the call.
The vet came,
a beacon of calm in the storm,
to help us make your final moments
as gentle, as special as they could be.
We wrapped you in love,
in whispered words and soft strokes,
in the richness of chocolate,
a rare treat for a soul who deserved every sweetness the world could offer.
And at 11:11 a.m.-the angels’ time-
you fell into forever sleep, cradled in my arms.
Your body, once suddenly so tired,
finally looked at peace,
your face so serene,
as if relieved of the burden,
you had carried so bravely.
I held you close,
wrapped in the warmth of my love,
as you drifted away,
so dignified and free,
leaving behind the ache of this world.
Now, it is my time to grieve.
The depth of my grief is the depth of my love,
an ache carved out by joy and devotion.
The house feels so empty—
every corner, every room and every place we've walked, echoes with loss.
The chatter and laughter of the world around me
feels hollow, distant, without your presence.
Returning to work feels impossible,
time is moving too quickly for my heart.
And coming home, I find only silence—
no wagging tail, no big brown eyes of welcome.
Your favourite elephant teddies lie where you left them,
your bed still unmade,
your bowls and treats still in their place.
Your absence is everywhere,
a quiet void filled with your memory.
But even in this grief,
there is gratitude.
For every bark and every wag,
for every race, every kiss and every cuddle,
for every splash in a muddy puddle,
for every swim in the pond and sea,
and every shared moment of joy.
And though the house feels hollow,
and the days stretch long without you,
I see you in the sunlight,
I feel you in the whisper of the wind.
You are free now, my gorgeous boy,
bounding through endless fields,
chasing rainbows in skies of gold,
and swimming for miles in the sea,
now with angels at your side.
And one day, when my time comes,
I will find you again,
waiting at the rainbow bridge in that golden glow,
with the grace of a thousand memories,
each step an echo of joy, of love,
and though the tears will blur my sight,
I will see you run around.
You, so vibrant and pain-free,
bouncing through cloudy skies,
under rainbows that flooded
the heavens with hues of joy.
Your tail wagging,
your eyes bright,
and we will run together,
never to part again.
Until then, I carry you with me,
in every beat of my heart,
in every sigh of the breeze,
in every moment of this life
that you made so much brighter.
