The importance of horticulture in combating climate change
Tumblr media
One of the most complicated and difficult environmental threats the world is currently facing is climate change, which has had a significant impact on ecosystems. Over the next ten years, it is expected that the average world temperature would climb by 1.5 to 2.0 °C, causing more heat waves, longer warm seasons, and shorter cold seasons.
India's unique geography, ecosystems, and climatic zones make it more susceptible to climate hazards. Due to climate change, the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh is also enduring droughts, excessive rainfall, floods, and hailstorms. Numerous areas in Madhya Pradesh are dealing with issues including rain that comes late, leaves early, has a protracted dry period, and not enough water in reservoirs, all of which wholly adversely effect crop productivity.
Fruit crops (mango, guava, banana, oranges, papaya), vegetable crops (potato, onion, peas, tomato, brinjal, cabbage), spice crops (chilly, garlic, coriander, ginger), and flower crops are some of the most important horticultural crops farmed (marigold, rose, gladiolus). With a share of roughly 45 percent in the region, vegetable crops are the most common, followed by spices at 35 percent, fruits at 18 percent, and flowers at 2 percent.
The anticipated temperature increase is alarming because it could have a direct impact on the flowering of fruit crops like guava and mango. During the peak of the mango plant's bloom, high temperatures and low relative humidity cause higher transpiration rates, which cause dehydration and lower output. Due to the infestation of insects like fruit flies, hot and humid weather can increase the likelihood of pests and diseases.
High temperatures can also shorten the growth time for the bunch by speeding up plant maturity rates in fruits like bananas. Due to their succulent nature, vegetables are much more sensitive to high temperatures. For instance, because of decreased productivity and smaller stature, high temperatures might result in yield losses in tomato plants. In tomatoes, higher temperatures can cause ovule abortion and poor viability, bud drop, abnormal flower development, poor pollen generation, dehiscence, and viability, as well as other reproductive problems.
Low temperatures in cucumber promote the growth of female flowers, whereas high temperatures promote the growth of more male flowers, which inhibits the growth of female flowers. Reduced yields are caused by the shorter duration of onion bulb size at high temperatures.
Impact of Climate Change on horticulture crops
Little precipitation and high temperatures brought on by climate change's rapid rise in temperature have decreased horticultural crop production and market demand. Agriculture commodities including wheat, maize, and rice as well as horticultural products like saffron, walnuts, and apples have seen a decline in production in the Jammu and Kashmir regions. Due to the change and loss brought about by climate change, many cities and farmers who were known for producing certain crops as well as communities and farmers who were completely dependent on horticulture crops have been under pressure.
Conclusion
Recognizing how Climate Change is negatively affecting agricultural production should be the first step in solving the difficulties. We will be in a better position to build the solutions once we are aware of the disparities. Bringing up the developing issues can assist establish policies and methods that, when properly and successfully applied, can lead to desired results. Crops used in agriculture and horticulture could be saved using the best techniques, such as greenhouse technology and the development of heat-tolerant measures. However, before implementing these techniques, it is crucial to acknowledge the problems and difficulties caused by climate change.

How can Sun exposure be treated
Tumblr media
The sun is a crucial component of life on Earth since it gives forth heat, light, and key nutrients like vitamin D. On the other hand, continuous sun exposure might harm our skin. The sun's radiation includes UVA, UVB, and UVC rays; UVA and UVB rays are the most harmful to the skin. While UVB rays result in sunburns and rapid damage, UVA rays damage the skin more deeply and over time.
How Much Sun Exposure Is Enough?
Individual needs for sun exposure vary, but on average, 10 to 30 minutes of sun exposure per day is sufficient to produce adequate vitamin D without endangering our skin. The amount of sun exposure necessary can, however, be influenced by factors like skin type, location, and time of day, according to the skin specialist.
The skin specialist claims that the impacts of UV exposure can build up over time and cause noticeable changes in our skin. The deterioration of collagen and elastin fibers, wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin are a few of these alterations. Other harm from prolonged sun exposure includes skin cancer and black patches.
How Can It Be Treated?
The skin expert claims that in addition to retinoids, lightening agents, chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing, dermabrasion, and fillers, there are various alternative therapies for severe cases of sun damage. According to her, these procedures can assist in lessening the visibility of wrinkles, dark spots, and other ageing symptoms brought on by sun exposure.
We are well aware of the need of obtaining enough sun exposure for optimal health. It also aids in mood regulation and aids in the production of vitamin D, which is important for the absorption of calcium and phosphorus. However, many people are unable to receive the necessary amount of sun exposure to maintain their health because of things like hectic schedules or living in places with little access to sunlight. Fortunately, there are a few strategies you can use to compensate for your lack of sun exposure and make sure you're still getting enough vitamin D. These 6 methods have been validated by science.
1. Try light therapy
A sort of treatment called light therapy, also referred to as phototherapy, includes the patient being exposed to specialised lamps or light boxes. Although Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is typically treated with this kind of therapy, persons who don't get enough sunlight exposure in their regular lives may also find it helpful. Before attempting light treatment, speak with your doctor to ensure if it is appropriate for you. If you receive the all-clear, it's a good idea to know that a red light treatment device is available to assist you in getting the desired result. It works by directing modest quantities of red light onto the skin, which encourages the synthesis of vitamin D.
2. Increase dietary sources of Vitamin D
Good sources of vitamin D include foods like egg yolks, fatty fish, and fortified dairy products. If you don't consume enough of these foods, you might want to add a vitamin D-fortified meal to your diet or take a dietary supplement. Supplements for vitamin D are widely available at pharmacies and health stores. Several foods, including yogurt, orange juice, and cereal, have vitamin D added to them.
Moreover, some mushrooms may also have vitamin D in them. You must expose these mushrooms to UV light before eating them in order to profit from them.
3. Spend time outdoors during the day
If your schedule or living situation prevents you from getting enough sun exposure, try taking a few breaks during the day to go outside and soak up the sun for 10-15 minutes. Your body will produce more vitamin D as a result. But remember to use sunscreen if you want to spend longer than a short while outside!
Try to receive 10 to 30 minutes of sunlight exposure throughout the day. This can be accomplished by going for walks during your lunch break or spending some time outside before your day begins.
4. Take advantage of UV light lamps
UV lamps can be used to increase vitamin D levels because they emit wavelengths that are comparable to those of sunlight. A prolonged exposure to UV radiation may raise your chance of developing skin cancer, so they should only be used for brief periods of time, whether at home or in a medical setting.
5. Increase your intake of cod liver oil
Together with other vital elements like Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin A, cod liver oil is a great source of Vitamin D. You can find it in liquid form and add it to smoothies or other foods, or you can take it as a supplement. Be sure the supplement you chose to take is pure and of the highest calibre. For people who don't like the flavour of the liquid, cod liver oil pills are also an option.
6. Consider taking Vitamin D injections
If you have severe deficits, your doctor may recommend vitamin D shots since they offer higher levels of the vitamin than you can usually get through diet. Follow the suggested dosage and always check with your doctor before taking a vitamin D shot.
7. Regularly check your blood for vitamin D levels
To make sure you're getting enough vitamin D and to modify your supplement or diet as needed, your doctor should regularly test your levels of vitamin D. Your age, current levels, and other variables will determine how frequently you undergo these tests. Moreover, make sure you get regular checkups with your doctor to ensure that your vitamin D levels are staying good.
Conclusion
If you plan to spend a lot of time outside, wear sun protection clothing, a hat, and sunglasses, reapply sunscreen every two hours, and seek out shade whenever you can.

Kantara Review and Analysis - A Video Essay
Tumblr media
A small brief description about this movie:
Kantara is a Kannada-language film that focuses on a plot involving a conflict of land acquisition and the involvement of demigods to the story.
The film's highlight is how it represents the Tulu culture of celebrating the Bhuta Kola and its traditional dynamics around the film's plot.
Kantara made rounds around the Indian Cinema's space, and now it's being acknowledged around the world too by cinephiles.
Though Kantara have a predictable and common plot about the war between two groups of the same village and who wins the war, but -
The greatest strength of Kantara is the cinematic and thematic elements present in the whole film and how Rishab Shetty, the main lead along with the writer and director of Kantara, represents the Tulu culture of Bhuta Kola in the movie.
Here's my take on "What's the Value of Kantara" for so many people in India, especially the people who are accustomed to the ritual of Bhuta Kola in Karnataka and other areas.
This video gives a brief description of the Bhuta Kola, then went on to give review with how Rishab Shetty materialised this movie and provides an analysis on the story of Kantara, eventually summing up with a conclusion.

Health Benefits of Almond
Tumblr media
Almonds are nutrient powerhouses. Almonds can be consumed whole, ground into flour or butter, or cut into chunks or slices. Another well-known recipe that uses almonds is almond milk. This satisfyingly delicious nut is deserving of the moniker "superfood." Let's examine several advantages of routinely eating almonds that are supported by science.
You should consume almonds every day for the following nine reasons.
1. Can help reduce cholesterol
A study found that eating almonds reduces your risk of developing high cholesterol and increases the amount of vitamin E in your red blood cells. Increased blood levels of vitamin E produce antioxidants that stop cholesterol from accumulating inside your cells. Thus, consuming a few almonds daily will boost your blood's vitamin E levels and lower your risk of developing cholesterol.
2. May aid weight loss
Almonds include more protein, fibre, and less carbohydrates than other foods, which helps you feel fuller for shorter periods of time. Also, this lowers the daily calorie intake. Almonds can reduce hunger, allowing you to control how much food you eat and maintain a healthy weight.
3. Good for the heart
When consumed together, almonds and other nuts are excellent for your heart. Eating almonds is intended to balance and regulate blood sugar levels. This is due to the magnesium found in almonds, which you ought to eat daily in moderation. Almond consumption increases blood antioxidant levels, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow to numerous body parts.
4. Protects the eyes
Almonds include a significant amount of vitamin E, which protects your eyes and prevents artificial changes to your lens, while carrots are said to be very excellent for your eyes. Almond consumption will afterwards safeguard your eyes, but consume them in moderation to avoid gaining weight. Consuming almonds should never exceed moderation.
5. Rich in antioxidants
Antioxidants found in abundance in almonds may aid in the reduction of stress. Stress causes molecules to break down, and broken molecules result in inflammatory diseases, cancer, and ageing. Antioxidants that are good for the skin are abundant in almonds. Eating 84 grammes of almonds daily will boost your body's antioxidant levels, preventing you from getting older and developing a host of other problems.
6. Improves skin health
You may have read that almonds make up a significant portion of the ingredients in the majority of beauty care products because they provide so many advantages for your skin. A flavonoid that is also present in broccoli, green tea, and almonds can be discovered. This ingredient hydrates your skin and has anti-aging benefits.
7. May prevent grey hair
From avoiding grey hair to curing hair loss, almond oil is quite efficient in addressing a variety of hair issues. Dandruff and other issues with the hair can be treated with almond oil. Its best quality is how soft and shiny your hair feels after using almond oil.
8. Good for the brain
Almonds become high in potassium when combined with milk. This mineral is one of the main ones that increases the electrolyte levels in your body and gives you more energy. If you drink almond milk, it might help your memory when your electrolyte levels drop. Thus drinking almond milk improves your memory.
9. Helps cure anaemia
By drastically lowering the amount of oxygen that reaches the brain, red blood cells frequently induce anaemia. Almonds can consequently be used to prevent anaemia due to their abundance in copper, iron, and vitamins that encourage the production of more haemoglobin.
Conclusion
Having almonds is healthy. They provide a range of essential nutrients and can be a respectable supply of protein for people who solely eat plant-based diets.
