Happy Reading! - Rhin   Boy, were you glad to walk in the door of your apartment.   Work was just too stressful today, you thought as your purse thumped down on the counter. Your coat landed somewhere on the floor near the recliner. The bun in your hair fell as the tie snapped back on your wrist. Rubbing your eyes, not really caring about smudging your makeup, you entered your bedroom and prepared to hop in the shower.   Except there was something in your bed. Someone in your bed, looking up from his phone and smiling a smile that rivaled sunshine.   In a different situation, you would’ve screamed and bolted back out of the room. However, this was a normal situation. In normal situations, you would smile back, say hello, give the someone a kiss or two, and go about your business. Which was exactly what you did.   “How was work?” The someone asked as he returned your kisses and settled back into the pillows.   “It was… work.” you replied, him chuckling. He totally understood. “I would love to talk about it, but I really need a shower right now.” You continued taking off your jewelry and shoes, gathering your pajamas to change into. “How was your day?”   “Same old, same old. I dealt with four guys and one dumb maknae and cling wrap [aka saran wrap] taped up in all the doorways this morning, then I went off to do other things. Now we’re on vacation!”   “You are? That’s great! Finally we’ll have some time to ourselves!”   “Yeah, finally! There’s so much I want to do with you, you have no idea…” the handsome man in your bed yawned widely and ruffled his hair.   “Well, mister, what you need to do right now is sleep. Get off your phone and close your eyes and I’ll be with you in a bit.”   He rolled his eyes. “Yes, Mom.”   “I love you, Dongmin!” you called as you closed the bathroom door behind you.     “I love you too, (Y/N)!”   Fifteen minutes later, you hung up your towel, threw your hair up into a bun again, and crawled in under the comforter next to your conked-out boyfriend. For a while you just admired his face, the thing that made him so sought-after. His slightly puffy eyes from inadequate hours of sleep, his nose that cutely flared with each intake of breath, his lips that just look so kissable.   How did I get so lucky? you thought for the millionth time since Dongmin asked you to be his. He had told you the answer a hundred times, but it had crossed your mind way more times than that. You reminded yourself that looks are not everything. You love this man because he is a goofball. A loyal, hardworking, talented goofball that just so happened to fall in love with you and make the feelings mutual.   Careful not to wake Dongmin, you made yourself comfortable as the little spoon and tried to lull yourself to sleep. Closing your eyes and listening to the steady breathing behind you didn’t work as it usually did. Too much was on your mind. So, you talked.   “A lot of things have happened since I saw you last, Dongminnie. As I’ve already told you, I got that promotion, but with it came responsibilities I was not mentally prepared for. I mean, I knew all the information and what I was expected to do, but I just wasn’t ready for it, you know? Yeah, you probably know since a lot more modelling and advertising gigs have been added to your schedule lately.   Drama Mama ([we all have that person in our lives, right? Put her name here]) keeps coming over to me during her break to tell me company gossip I don’t really want to hear. It’s getting annoying but I’m afraid to tell her because she’ll start talking about me and I’ll get demoted. She’s a backstabbing snake, I don’t trust her at all. Well, nobody does anymore, except the boss.   Did you notice the time when I got home? I think it was 7:30, I don’t remember. Oh, did you eat supper, Dongmin? A very nice janitor has been bringing me food from the break room when she noticed that I’ve been staying way past closing time to finish up the projects I’ve been given. I usually don’t come home this early anymore.”   You didn’t really expect Dongmin to answer those questions, but when you paused to think of more things to get off your mind, he made a small “mm-hm”, which made you pause even more. You mean, you wouldn’t mind if he was actually awake and listening, but if he actually was awake you felt a bit guilty for keeping him up.   A soft snore floated out of Dongmin’s mouth, confirming that he was, in fact, asleep. A voice popped up in your head, reminding you that he has a habit of talking and laughing in his sleep. It sounded suspiciously like Bin, probably because it was him that told you this information.   Ah, it’s been too long. It had been almost three months since you shared a bed with Dongmin. He was so busy with the Dream Store comeback, modelling, and CF and drama filming that he simply didn’t have time to come visit you. You understood, but it never felt quite right without him occupying the left side of your favorite piece of furniture.   “Anyway, the company’s absorbing another small firm soon, so all of that paperwork has been pushed on to me.” Words kept flowing.     Pretty soon you found yourself nodding off, which was your goal in the first place. You’d better wrap up, or soon you’d be talking gibberish all night.   “One more thing, then I’ll sleep. Someone pulled a prank in the copier room today.” you giggled at the thought. “Someone rigged the printers and copiers to spew papers for five minutes whenever a person entered in a command. Then they’d have to dig around to find what they needed. I think they accused a tech dude from the third floor.”   Apparently Dongmin’s subconscious found that funny, so he chuckled. However, he did so in your ear.   Everyone who knew about it teased you incessantly with it. They used it against you, surprising you at the randomest of times, which usually led to yelling and chasing. Therefore, you didn’t tell a lot of people that your right ear was sensitive in a weird way. If a person’s voice was just the right pitch and close enough to your ear, it would tickle and send a weird feeling down your spine. Dongmin’s laugh was just that right pitch.   Squealing, you squirmed away from your sleeping boyfriend and rubbed your ear in an attempt to ease the weird feeling. You were surprised he didn’t wake up at the movement; he was certainly exhausted.   The feeling passed. You were considering staying in this position and giving Dongmin some space, just in case he woke up before you and wanted to get up and make breakfast or something. Once again, his subconscious made his wants known, and a whine emitted from your partner’s throat. His hands blindly searched the sheets until he found your form, then he pulled you back into his arms, snaking them around your waist. It never failed to amaze you how naturally your two bodies fit together.     “Okay, okay, Dongmin. Geez, I didn’t know you were that needy,” you joked. There were times in the past (when you first started dating him and when Astro came back with Autumn Story) when he was way needier than that, not even in a sexual sense. In those times he needed physical contact at all times, so he would just attach himself to you and wouldn’t let go until hours later. If you wiggled out of his grip to go do something, he would either follow you or just whine until you came back. Cuddles and/or kisses were needed at least twice every time he saw you. You low-key missed that side of Dongmin.   Minutely readjusting and making yourself more comfortable once again, you relaxed, taking in the faint aroma of his day-old cologne. Taking your own advice, you closed your eyes and floated off to dreamland with Captain Ddana, very glad and thankful for the person beside you.       “Thanks for listening, Minnie. Whether you knew it or not.”

Jangmi’s Masterlist

“Love you too. Look after yourself.” Jangmi waved into the camera, as her parents faces were replaced with the ‘Call Ended’ screen.

She placed her phone on her bedside table, and sighed, before walking over to the wall next to her bed. They had only moved dorms a few day ago, yet Jangmi had managed to find time in redoing her entire collage of pictures.

The photos were evenly scattered, covering the entire wall. There were photos of her family, her friends, her members and random scenery shots she’d taken during all their trips. 

She pulled the one of the pictures of her family off the wall, and sat back down on her bed.

It was taken during Seventeens first, and only, visit to Australia. Her parents had taken all the members out to lunch, and Mingyu had insisted on taking a picture of just her and her parents.  

She was standing in the middle, right behind her parents seats. She was wearing a frilly strap dress, and her hair was nicely plaited into 2 pigtails, courtesy of her mum. Both her arms were wrapped around their shoulders, and she was grinning from ear to ear.

“What are you looking at?” Jangmi jumped at the sudden noise, and looked up to find her roommate leaning against the door.

She turned the picture around to face him. Dino squinted, before walking into their room, and grabbing the picture out of her hands.

“We need to go back soon. I heard your grandma tell Joshua that he was her favourite member.” Dino chuckled. “Since I’ve improved by English, I’ll definitely steal his place.”

Jangmi grabbed the picture back before sticking it back up on the wall. “Hate to break it to you, but her favourites Seokmin.”

He groaned before lying down on his bed. “How can I compete with that?”

“You can’t.” Jangmi said in a matter-of-fact tone, whilst reaching over to hold another picture; this time the photo iss with all her cousins back in 2015- the last birthday of hers she’d spent back home.

The conversation ended there, with Chan going back on his phone, probably texting his younger siblings.

Jangmi continued staring at the picture, holding the corners tightly in her hand.

“Jangmi-ah!” Why are you crying?”

She looked up in confusion, furrowing her eyebrows. She wasn’t crying.

Only when she touched her cheeks, did she feel the wet tears.

“I- I -don’t know” She stuttered, furiously wiping away her tears. “I’m fine. I’m okay.” Her voice betraying her by cracking at the end of her sentence.

She dropped the picture into her lap and started sobbing into her hands. She didn’t even know why she was crying. She was doing absolutely fine 10 seconds ago.

But the tears were coming out like a waterfall, and she could feel her breathing slowly becoming irregular, making her take deeper breaths to grasp onto some air.

“Hey hey hey.” The bed sunk next to her, as Dino pushed her into his chest. “It’s ok. Everything’s ok.” He’d heard his hyungs use that phrase often, when reassuring the other members- except he had never got a chance to use it. Until now.

His smooth demeaner didn’t help, as Jangmi’s breathing before more ragged and irregular, her body shaking through her muffled sobs.

“I need you to breathe for me” Dino pleaded, his voice raising after seeing the state of mind she was in.

He didn’t know what to do. Usually when she showed signs of panic, the hyung’s took care of her. He just left the room to bring her tea.

“Keep breathing. Take a deep breath.” He instructed, as he quickly ran to get his phone, which he had left on his bed.

He sat back down next to her, and called the group chat, hoping someone would answer.

Immediately when it started ringing, he switched over to the chat function. “Anyone at the dorms?” he texted. Not wanting to scare them. He could handle it.

He looked back up at his twin maknae, who was still struggling to breathe, and forcibly placed her hand on his chest. “Breathe with my heart. Slowly. Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out…”

He kept repeating those words, when he got a notification that someone had replied to his text. He quickly unlocked his phone, and let out a small sigh in relief to see Joshua’s message.

“I’m here. What’s up?”

Dino called Joshua and was overjoyed to hear his voice after 2 rings.

“Can you come into my room? Jangmi just started sobbing for absolutely no reason” The words tumbling out of his mouth at an incomprehensible speed.

“On my way.”

Dino was grateful for Josh being the one who was coming over. Josh and Jangmi had a close bond- being the English foreigners of the group.

He turned back to face Jangmi; whose breathing had thankfully gotten a bit more stable.

“You’re doing good. You’re doing good.” He encouraged, rubbing her back.

He heard footsteps from the corridor and gave a weak smile once Shua barged into the room.

“Go make some tea or get her some ice-cream.”

Dino stood up and left the room, to obey his hyungs’ orders, whilst Joshua took her place on the bed.

He cupped Jangmi’s face, forcing her to look into his eyes.

“Are you ok?” Josh asked in English, frantically searching her eyes for some sort of answer.

Jangmi slowly nodded, taking in a deep breath.

“Good good. Breathe with me.” Josh grabbed her warm hands and placed them on his heart. “Follow the beat of my heart.”

Jangmi nodded, her breathing slowly easing during the next few minutes.

Once he was satisfied that her breathing was normal, he opened up the middle draw of her bedside table and pulled out her asthma puffer.

He handed it over to her, and whilst she used it, he pushed the stray hairs stuck to her face.

“What happened?” He whispered gently, when she placed her asthma puffer down on the bed.

Jangmi started playing with her hands on her lap. “I miss home.”

Josh leaned in closer. “What? I couldn’t hear you.”

“I miss home” A small sob left her lips, as she curled back in on herself.

He shifted down on the bed, until his back touched the wall. He grabbed Jangmi’s right hand and placed it on his lap, playing with her fingers.

“We all do.”

“No you don’t. No one does” Jangmi sighed, raising her voice a little. “They all can go home whenever they please, and their schedule lets them. Or their family can come up here to visit. They just need half a day free to visit. I need a freaking week. Do you know how rarely we get a week off?”

“Jun hyung and Minghao hyung are used to flying back and forth between China and here so often before COVID. Do you remember Minghao flying out every weekend? Between promotions. Plus they always talk to each other in Mandarin.”

“I speak to you in English, plus Vernon.” Josh's tone resembled one he would use on a 6-year-old who just fell off their bike, but he thought it was appropriate as their maknae looked so broken and fragile.

Jangmi gave a weak chuckle. “It’s different. It’s not just the English. It kinda comes hand in hand with the other stuff. But you still have family here. You can visit your aunts, your second cousins. Plus we always go back to LA for promotions.”

Josh nodded his head, “true true.”

Jangmi continued. “Everytime we talk about tour; I keep asking them to visit Australia. Even if it’s not our own concert, I’d be happy with KCON.”

“I’m just so sick of not being able to go back when everyone else can.” Her voice cracking. “I haven’t gone home in 4 years.”

Her hyung held her tightly, as she broke into sobs once again. Josh rocked Jangmi back and forth until she had no more tears left to cry. He’d learnt from his experiences it was often best to let her release her emotions, and then figure out ways to solve it.

Jangmi looked up once hearing front door being slammed, and quickly shifted her position, using her hands to dry her tears.

“It’s pointless hiding it, isn’t it?” Her voice sounding hoarse and cracking at the ends.

Josh chuckled, using his fingers to tuck her hair neatly behind her ears. “Doesn’t matter. I’m pretty sure Chan’s giving an over the top version of what happened.”

Jangmi groaned. “Can you tell Seungcheol hyung I’m fine.”

“I can’t lie to your dad like that.” Josh gasped dramatically, causing Jangmi to smack the back of his head. “No more bracelets for you.”

“Who said I want your childish bracelets anyway?” Jangmi joked, causing him to tackle her on the bed.

“Take that back.” Josh instructed, whilst tickling Jangmi.

“Never” Jangmi yelled, trying to squirm after his grasp.

Their fight continued for a little bit, only stopping when Jangmi announced that if she was tickled again, she’d wet the bed.

They sat in silence for a second, Jangmi using that time effectively to catch her breath.

“Thank you though.” Jangmi smiled at her hyung.

Josh squeezed his way between the way and Jangmi, before pulling her closer to his chest.

“You still haven’t told me what caused it.”

Jangmi stayed silent for a second, before little out a small sigh. “I got a reminder this morning, on my Calendar saying my flight was tomorrow. And that’s when I realised that I would have been seeing my grandma and family in a few days. And then when they called me, I felt so bad because they kept talking about all the fun we would be having if I was there. But I’m here, cos of fucking Covid, and not there. I’m on my last packet of tam-tams, and I’m pretty sure my vegemite is expired.” Her string of words ending with a small sniffle.

Josh opened his mouth, but closed it again. He didn’t know how to make Jangmi feel better. It’s true that the foreigners all missed home, but there were instances where Jangmi felt alone. He always complained about missing home, but he usually went there a few times a year. Jangmi, on the other hand, hadn’t been attacked by venomous animals for quite a while.

“I promise when this whole pandemic is over, we’ll go visit.” Josh held out his pinky.

Jangmi raised her eyebrows. “That’s a pretty big promise you got there.”

“I never said when.” Josh wiggled his pinky.

“Fineeee.” Jangmi looped her pinky with his, and they shook on it

Three knocks on the door, made them turn around to see Chan walking in with cup of presumably tea.

“Chan! Don’t spill any, I don’t want my socks to get sticky everytime I walk into your room.” Seungcheol huffed from behind him.

“Doesn’t that happen anyway.” Mingyu said in passing as he walked down the corridor.

Jangmi gladly accepted the warm milk tea, and took a sip. It was her favourite Dilmah tea, but because of her stupid diet, Chan had only put in one sugar.

“I wanted to put sugar, but I didn’t know if you wanted some.” Chan stood opposite her, watching her carefully.

Josh stood up, grabbing the tea from Jangmi and placing it on her bedside table, pushing some random rings which eventually fell on the floor.

“Actually.” Josh announced. “I think Jangmi and I are going to go on a Maccas Run.”

“We are?” Jangmi questioned, wondering when she even signed up for this.

“Yes we are.” Josh confirmed. “And we are going to get some shrimp on the barbie from a kbbq place. And then we’re gonna drink some ‘Fosters’ until 3am.”

Seungcheols eyes widened. “You are?”

“She barely drinks.” Chan objected quickly. Not wanting his drinking habits to pass down to his twin-maknae.

“Please never use Australian slang ever again. I will stop complaining about ‘Sunday Morning’ if you stop.” Jangmi begged, internally dying at him butchering Australian English. She’d text Felix about this nightmare later.

“Ok ok. But are you still down for a Maccas run?” He switched back to English

“I’m on a diet.” Jangmi sulked.

“We just finished promotions a few days ago.” Josh tried to reason with her.

“We’re shooting the music video to ‘24H’ soon though.” She pointed out.

“I don’t know what you both are saying in English, but I’m not going to object getting some fast food. I’m not going to endorse it either. As the lead-”

“Cut the crap Seungcheol.” Josh interrupted. “No one’s here to tell you off.”

Seungcheol waved his arms frantically. “Just do whatever you want. Be safe obviously. No one listens to me anyway.”

“You got that right.” Jangmi jumped out of her bed, before grabbing one of the jackets hanging in her closet.

“Isn’t that my-”

Jangmi grabbed her phone, before stuffing into her trackie pocket. “Can’t talk Chan. Gonna get food.”

Jangmi walked out the door first and as Josh was about to follow, Seungcheol grabbed his arm. “Tell me after, yeah?”

Josh nodded in confirmation. “I think you’ll need to speak to management about this.”

Their leader furrowed his eyebrows in concern. “Is it serious? Is she ok? Chan said she had a meltdown after looking at a picture.”

Josh gave a supportive smile. “She’s alright… I think… for now. She’s just homesick.”

Seungcheol mentally relaxed. “We’ll talk about it later. Thanks for looking after her.”

Josh opened his mouth to reply but was interrupted by Jangmi’s scream coming from the front door. “Hurry up! I want an Apple Pie.”

He chuckled, whilst shaking his head. “Talk soon,” he said as he left the room.

“Bring me back some fries!” Seungcheol shouted.

“And some nuggets!” Chan added.

Jangmi rolled her eyes, as Joshua grabbed his shoes.

They had just left their apartment and were waiting for the lift when their phones started vibrating like crazy.

Jangmi quickly opened hers up to find the groupchat being lit up with different McDonalds orders. Even from Wonwoo, who had gone back to his parents’ place for the night.

She shut off her phone without replying, and shoved it into her pocket.

“How mad would they be if I just seened them, without bringing back food?”

Everything You Are (Yoon Jeonghan)

I am...the worst. I’m literally so busy with everything in my life that I’m AWOL on most of my social media and I haven’t responded to anything or anyone. I’m iffy about this but I needed to post. And a happy birthday to our ever wonderful Kim Mingyu! Credits to owners for the gifs. -Bee

March 31st: present day

“So,” Mingyu said in the midst of slurping his noodles, “what are we doing for the greatest day in the world?” The hotness burned his mouth, but that only prompted him to shove more inside than he could (literally) chew. He almost choked when he locked eyes with Minghao, who only stared at him in confusion.

Jihoon shook his head. “The greatest days in the world are those that don’t require alarm clocks and we won’t be getting those anytime soon.” He swiped a piece Soonyoung’s fish with his fingers, playing with it and then eating it before telling Wonwoo to high five him, which his elder declined and moved away. (Not that stopped him from throwing lettuce.)

“April has great days...earth day, Easter Day, April Fools Day, Arbor Day...Mingyu sunbaenim’s day.” He shrugged. “You know, just to name a few.”

“Those don’t sound like fun though.” Seungkwan.

“No one asked you.”

“Then why are you asking?”

“Are you really gonna brush off my special day?” He placed his chopsticks on the bowl when half of his brothers nodded, sticking out his lower lips in a pout. “But oh, we had to take the maknae to out to a movie and give him this fancy dinner and buy him everything he pointed at.” He ruffled Chan’s hair affectionately and rested his head on said boy’s shoulder.

“Did you have anything in mind?” Joshua.

“We haven’t done a proper birthday in awhile. And we haven’t really talked to any of our other friends besides when we bump into them at the shows, so I was thinking we invite them all and just hang out. Maybe bust out a cake, a piñata.” He counted his fingers as he ticked off his plans. “And either get some takeout or pizza. Oh! And we can hire strippers!” At that, he had everyone’s attention.

“Why the hell…” Minghao shook his head. “Never mind.”

“It’ll be funny to throw them off.” He slammed his hand down in front of Jeonghan who sat across from him.

He jumped, clearly not expecting to be acknowledged by the dongsaeng. “What?”

“Can you invite Y/N?”

“Y/N?”

“Yeah. You remember Y/N, don’t you? The best friend you swore you never had? The one you kept away from us for a long ass time? The one who’s currently somewhere in South America since your last update? How long ago was it that we hung out?”

Jeonghan swallowed subtly. “Oh that Y/N. I’ll see what I can do.” He offered his best version of his mischievous smile. “It has been a while, hasn’t it?” Give or take six months if you don’t count birthdays. “But do you really want that?”

“Hyung, I don’t ask for anything except for clean dishes and rooms. I can’t even remember the last time we had a conversation that didn’t start and end with ‘I miss you’, and that’s just on Instagram!” He rubbed his eyes, “We were all friends too, not just you two.” Mingyu’d mumbled that last part so lowly, anyone would’ve missed it if they weren’t paying attention. But they didn’t know you didn’t speak anymore.

April 6th: three years ago

“Dinosaurs?” Seungcheol asked in disbelief as he saw Jeonghan’s choice in balloons. “You’re getting a grown-ass man balloons in the shape of a dinosaur?”

“It’s his birthday,” Jeonghan shrugged. “You know better than to deny Mingyu anything…”

“You binge-watch The Land Before Time one time-”

“No, apparently it was the Disney movie Dinosaur.”

“Disney did not do a dinosaur movie. I would remember...I had a phase until I was 11!” Though the T-Rex sticker on his phone was a subtle reminder of his younger days in Daegu that he never quite outgrew it.

“If I’m gonna have to fight you on this, at least get me a soda and a bag of chips.” He pulled out his phone, typed in the movie in question and watched Seungcheol’s face scrunch up in disbelief in amusement. “Pay for lunch too while you’re at it.” Jeonghan then turned his attention to the person at the register. “Hi, how are you today?”

“Hi, I’m good. How are you?”

“Another day in paradise. I have a question. Are these all you have?”

“Yeah, a few others came in about-” A quick look at the clock, estimating a time, “maybe 20 minutes ago, and took just about everything. Are dinosaurs like a thing here?”

“Not that I know of.” Jeonghan found himself squinting his eyes. “Are you new here?” He asked when he realized he didn’t recognize you.

“Overall, yeah. I’m not too crazy about switching jobs but I need to survive, especially when I don’t get enough. C’est la vie, you know?”

No, he wouldn’t. The Louis Vuitton wallet in his pocket confirmed it. He watched as you blew up the foil balloons and rang up everything. He didn’t miss the way your eyes widened slightly when he saw the designer logo on the leather material nor when he handed you his American Express card Joshua convinced him to get when they were in America. “Thank you,” he finally said when he signed his name on the receipt.

“Thank you. Have a nice day.”

Not one to make impulsive decisions, he surprised himself by scribbling some information on a scrap of paper and handing it to you. “This is an address from where we work. I don’t know if they’re looking for anyone, but if you tell them Jeonghan sent you, they’ll find you something.” His angelic charms hadn’t failed him yet, and he’d be damned if this started now. “Don’t hesitate to call me, uh-”

“Y/N.”

“Y/N.” He could feel Seungcheol tugging on his sleeves. “Well, it was nice to meet you.”

“Same here. Thanks for this, really.”

“We’ve been there and done that. It’s no problem.”

*April 2nd: present day

Mingyu’s constant question of, “Have you called? Have you called? Have you called?” played like a broken record inside his head throughout the day, irritating him more than he cared to admit, the longer he thought about it. He hadn’t bothered trying because he knew it would go straight to voicemail and it’s not like Mingyu would find out if he didn’t. You wouldn’t have broken your evading streak...well, besides calling for a happy birthday...scratch that, Mingyu would have Jeonghan’s head for that. It was late when he got home, Seokmin’s King Arthur rehearsal taking up more time than he thought it would. He had already flopped into bed, granted, the yellow toothbrush dangling dangerously from his lips as he tried not to gag from the baking soda when he saw his phone light up with a notification. You had uploaded a video from your time on your tour. Jeonghan found himself shaking his head, feeling a smile forming. Who would’ve thought you were gonna end up as a famous YouTuber when you’d struggled with jobs in the past.

He loved seeing how happy you’ve been looking, despite the fact you’d never smile the same way again. He laughed at your introduction, eating whatever you scrambled together at that moment, rambling a bit and then diving into your story, not even realizing he was dialing your number at three am, foam dripping into his sheets and hoping for once in your life, you’d pick up. With every passing ring, he felt nervous. He figured it’d play a key role in where you stood at the moment. Just when he was about to give up, he heard someone pick up, his heart pounding with anticipation on how this could go.

Jeonghan swore it took you four days to actually show up to Pledis Entertainment studios, and his charismatic streak lived to see another day. And because you were recommended by him, the head of said Pledis only saw it fair that you become an assistant to not just him, but the entire group. It scared you for the first few weeks, what with learning their names to figuring out who spoke which language to who was in charge, you considered yourself lucky that you didn’t crack under the pressure. It wasn’t because they looked much too perfect to be real (though it was a factor), but because your world flipped upside down when you realized Seventeen were kpop idols, not part of the staff.

The boys were friendly, thankfully enough. Seungkwan, Seokmin, and Soonyoung were obviously the ones who welcomed you the fastest and the ones who spoke for everyone else when it came to opinions and the ones who made sure the rest had an ounce of energy to get through the dance or song or whatever required physical exertion. Hansol, Wonwoo, and Jihoon eyed you dubiously at first as if waiting for you to expose yourself as a sasaeng or someone who worked for a sleazy tabloid magazine. They watched your every move whether on break or on call and had Jeonghan not confirmed the story of him reaching out to you, they would’ve continued to give you the cold shoulder until you quit. Once you gained their trust, everything simultaneously fell together and apart.

For starters, any requests made had to go through the ‘95 line. It wasn’t necessarily ice cream for dinner stuff, but if so and so could come in late the next day because they wanted breakfast. Four books and a game console were always required in their dressing room when they were scheduled to perform. They could never decide on what they wanted to snack on before they were due on stage, so you’d find yourself running back and forth to satisfy their cravings. (Though you did notice that vocal unit had a soft spot for gummies.)

Because you were still getting used to the boys’ hectic schedule, they left you in the hands of the Nu’est boys while they attended KCon in the late summer. While it meant learning the names of more boys, you preferred that over fucking things up because of jet lag and possibly getting fired for not being able to follow instructions. (Though the vibe was different than what you were used to, you were glad you treated you just as well as Seventeen. The only difference was that they used your respected honorific instead of just “Y/N” and you were home a little after midnight as opposed to two, three am.)

It was the ongoing prank war between Jonghyun, and Jeonghan that got the ball rolling between you and Jeonghan. Jeonghan had texted you to see if you could swipe Jonghyun’s water bottle and replace it with vodka he had smuggled into Jihoon’s locker and to send him the reaction when he drank it and in return, he’d bring you back something from the (not so) great Los Angeles. Instead, he found himself sending you pictures of Six Flags Magic Mountain, and the famous Santa Monica Beach and how beautiful the ocean looked from above the Ferris Wheel and began looking forward to your text messages and your overall company while you were on opposite ends of the world. He realized how much he missed having someone to talk to that wasn’t the 12 boys he loved and how it had been a while since he felt attracted to someone, felt wanted.

Upon coming home, you surprised each of them with a single balloon and new speakers for when they practiced a new choreography and they treated you to a late late-night dinner and a million stories. (Jonghyun got Jeonghan back the following day by shoving all the baby powder he could manage on the inside of Jeonghan’s towel.)

Jeonghan managed to keep your flirtationship inconspicuous, both on the clock and off although the fact that everyone played a part in treating you special (because one on one things became a common affair.) No one really had a second thought when you started carpooling with him because you lived in the same neighborhood and nobody said anything when he asked you to help him bring all the cup holders containing coffee and tea. And nobody had any questions when you and Jeonghan would smile at your phones during their practice break. (That was mostly due to the fact that he sent links to everyone in their group chat.) He’d wink at you when everyone was watching and playing it off as you being their favorite assistant.

The first time he kissed you was on Halloween during a party hosted by Pledis. It could’ve been the fact that it was a day no one was themselves or because the vibe was stress free but all you knew was that one minute you were fighting over the last can of beer and the next, he had you pressed against the counter and shuddering from the way your hands tangled in his hair. He remembered admitting that he had wanted to do that for a while. He would’ve leaned in again, but he heard someone coming in and he stole the can from you and skipped away, bumping into one of the boys but he forgot who. From then on, he’d kiss you whenever he felt like it, always making sure that no one was around. He liked the feeling of sneaking around, knowing that while recording was going on in one room, he’d be in the broom closet next door with you, fighting for air and grasping at whatever you could. And it was an unspoken thing to never mention what you had going on, which you naïvely agreed to because it was Yoon Jeonghan, the angel and the boy whom you couldn’t say no to.

Jeonghan knew it was reckless and irresponsible what you were doing but he couldn’t stop. It felt different than he was used to. He had someone at the palm of his hand. He felt something for you and he had planned to pursue it as long as possible, although that plan was short-lived.

April 3rd: present day

Why Jeonghan had picked to meet you by the street vendor who sold snow cones, he didn’t know, but it would’ve been better than looking like he was sneaking around. He sipped on his sofa, letting the fizziness calm his nerves. He couldn’t believe you agreed to meet with him. While he waited, he took pictures with the lucky Carats who found him completely by chance and even Jonghyun, who he hadn’t had the chance to say a proper hello to since...it felt like forever ago due to increasing demand of kpop and how they rarely saw each other outside of Pledis because of it. Their war was no longer a counted thing, but they enjoyed pulling their pranks here and there for the sake of nostalgia. (The matching scars on their pinkie fingers being a subtle sign of their idiocy.)

He didn’t know how long he waited, but it was worth it when you tapped his shoulder, waiting for him to respond. He knew seeing you would be a shock, but he didn’t expect for his vocabulary to fly out at the window and stare at you dumbfounded, nor for his first reaction to just reach out and grab you in a hug.

He missed this so much. He was a fool to think he could’ve fucked with your mind and expect you to be okay with it. He lived with the regret of lying to you when he said he wasn’t in love you everyday and when you hugged him back, he swore he saw his future flash before him. You pulled away first, expecting him to say something. “Hi.”

“You called me up at three am just to tell me that. Now, what is it?”

“I miss you.” Well, not the greatest start, but it’s something.

“I miss you all too. How is everyone? Congrats on the comeback by the way. You guys doing great.” You broke eye contact with him, peering past him.

He waved off your praise. “We’re all good thanks. I just wanted to talk to you about Mingyu. He, ah-” He scratched the back of his head. “He just wanted you to know that he’s having a party on Saturday and he’d love for you to stop by.” And he would too. Maybe, he’d be able to talk to you then.

“Saturday?” You racked your brain to see if you had any commitments for the day, coming up short. “I don’t think I’m doing anything, but I’m not sure I should go,” you admitted. Talking to Jeonghan always brought out your honest side, even when it was best to lie, like now. But the irony was that Jeonghan was the master of deception. You’d know. You’d fallen under his spell one too many times to not know him.

“Why?”

You shook your head. “Jeonghan, hhhhhh, never mind. You wouldn’t understand. I’ll see.”

“Wait.” He stepped closer to you, taking off your scarf and readjusting it so it’d look right. “There.” He was close, really close like he could smell the winter mint chewing gum you had in your mouth. If he really wanted to, he could steal a kiss, something he hasn’t done in so long. So he went for it.

Only instead of getting caught up in the moment like you were used to, you stopped him. “I can’t do this again.”

“Why? You afraid your boyfriend’s gonna see you?”

“As a matter of fact, he will, and I’d appreciate me doing myself a favor and not fucking this up too. Goodbye Jeonghan. I have to go; excuse me.”

Late December: three years ago

Jeonghan loved to admit it and he would always say it: he enjoyed watching you stress over birthdays because everything seemed inadequate due to their lavish lifestyle. But he expressed his appreciation from the homemade card and a new phone case and he saw the appreciation in the boys’ eyes when they opened theirs. And once he saw how you were fretting over Joshua (because “what the hell do you give an American boy who sings show tunes and eats his soup with a fork?”) he gave you clues as to what his best friend out on several wishlists. Once you figured out what to get him, you ordered it and the day it was to come, you invited Jeonghan to your place after they were done for the night to get his opinion.

And one moment you were showing him a thing of the Hollywood sign and the next, you were a tangled mess of limbs on the couch and Jeonghan knew he had crossed the line. Even worse was his realization that all he wanted was a friendship with you. So he ghosted you that night and gave you the excuse that Soonyoung needed everyone in the practice early. (Which wasn’t true, of course, because performance unit were recording their song while the remaining two basically had a free day.) From there began the end. Suddenly, he felt that everything you did had an ulterior motive to wanting an actual relationship and he started feeling annoyed with your presence and gave you the cold shoulder.

You knew everything that had happened before that was a mistake but it didn’t stop you from trying for more. Your feelings for Jeonghan ran deep and you would’ve sworn you had fallen in love but you bottled it up, letting him take the lead. The way he ignored you broke your heart and you weren’t as cheerful, nor did you treat the boys to anything like before. Your quieter than usual manner worried them, once Seungcheol going as far as asking if you wanted to see a doctor before they had to leave for the airport, which you declined, blaming your mattress for lack of sleep. You bid them a fun trip and to let you if they needed anything done while they were away.

While away for three months, Jeonghan texted you on occasion, mostly for business (and once in a while to fulfill his pranks) and how to handle some personal affairs. Again the distance made him miss you so he tried to keep you close, but he couldn’t; not when you eagerly replied to him and sent him photo after photo of irrelevant things, once again thinking you could regain what you had. He didn’t really blame you since he was the one who initiated your affair (if you could even call it that) but he knew if he continued to go down that road, the basis of your friendship would go up in flames. So he began looking for companionship in the wrong places, self-destructing himself in a way, not that he told you any of this. As far as you were concerned, he went straight to bed after a long day. He did, however, try to set you up with the pizza girl who delivered to Pledis but when that backfired, you yelled yourself to the point where Jonghyun sent you home until you could talk without killing yourself. (Seventeen still left you with Nu’est at this point because they liked how you worked with them, and it didn’t seem right to let you go with them when Nu’est was just as busy.)

When they came home it was only for a month before they were needed in Japan for promotional purposes and they left you once again. Jeonghan had only vaguely talked about his actions, but still felt guilty and tried to make it up to you while he was gone. The plus side was that he got to know you on a deeper level and understood the way you were and promised to help you help others because he saw it’s when you were your happiest. The long calls started again and it felt like old times. The downside was that no matter how much you opened up to him, he never did, so he never told you about his love interest who was nothing like you and let you believe something could happen when he came back home. True to his word, when he came home, he decided the fastest and easiest way to help people was to start your own YouTube channel and he readily provided the audience.

Two months into your unofficial commitment, YouTube’s management contacted you about being interested in making a career out of it and once you expressed your interest, they wrote down your information and told you they’d be in touch. You burst through the doors to Pledis that day, ready to shout from the rooftops about that, smoke all but visible behind you as you ran to Seventeen’s wing, and when you threw the doors open, there was Jeonghan in the middle of a tonsil hockey game with someone you’ve never seen and it was all you could do to not make a sound and just walk away quietly. You managed to sneak out of the building unseen and call Seungcheol that you came down with something and wouldn’t make it.

For three days, you stayed in bed, not eating or drinking anything, just crying your heart out for letting him lead you on. You would’ve gone the whole week like that, had one of your friends not forged a note from the doctor they worked with saying you needed bed rest and when you came back, they jumped at you, wanting to know why you didn’t say anything about being sick sooner, and you thanked your higher power at how oblivious they could be. And then Jeonghan had the audacity to stoke your hair, playfully telling you you looked like shit and you visibly flinched away from his touch, blaming it on a nonexistent headache. And suddenly your good news didn’t seem so good when you told them and bless Seungkwan’s heart when he asked if it meant you were quitting which you nodded sadly, and that meant a party for everyone.

That party was held the following month, in which your heart felt heavier than the day prior because of how Jeonghan acted like nothing had happened, and you suppressing everything. The boys bought liquor and alcohol like it was the end of the world and you used that opportunity to drink the image away. Not your brightest idea you’ll admit since you ended up hooking up with Joshua when he tried telling you that you had too much to drink and you begging him to make you forget.

And that was only the beginning of your own self-destruction, falling deeper in the rabbit hole, the closer your days as Seventeen’s assistant ended and the closer you became an influencer. The bags under your eyes never faded, feeling more sluggish by the day. You had only coffee in your system, not being to stomach food. Your headache never went away and you couldn’t stop crying. Everything hurt; there was no remedy for your pain.

Naturally, you worried everyone until Jeonghan confronted you and didn’t let you leave until you told him what the hell happened. He pushed you to your limit, finally telling him everything you felt, everything you saw, how nothing seemed to matter, to which he yelled at you, words feeling like venom as he spewed his own thoughts and piercing deeper into your heart and disintegrating parts of your soul. He cared about you, but not in that way. You were a wonderful person but you weren’t his type. He wished he could change everything but he was happy who he was with. He regretted everything because he was afraid this would happen.

You quit the next day but that wasn’t the last time you saw Jeonghan. He didn’t last much longer with his fling and his first reaction to the split was to call you, even though you had to work on your first ever video where you worked with introductions and whatnot. You had the faint naïve hope for reconciliation each time he called you up when something went wrong, each time ignoring the fact you were nothing more than an emotionally unstable human blinded by your love and him taking advantage of that. On Halloween of that year, you quit him cold turkey after sleeping with him one last time, realizing that he was nothing more than someone who fed off your energy and you couldn’t keep living like that, not when you had so much to offer the world and knowing you had a younger audience watching your movements.

It took time but you finally managed to get him out of your system.

You didn’t hate him. How could you when he not only made you but was a friend when you needed him? You wished him nothing but the best because at one point he was the best to you though it took a while to admit you were angry. It took you some time but you dedicated a special video for your situation, not mentioning his name for the sake of his image.

April 6th: present day

During that time, Jeonghan learned just exactly what he lost, and his mistake was meeting you again after those six months. He had grown up and he had hoped you would see past it and give him one more chance. He was lonely; he knew that now. All he wanted was for you to hold him one more time. He remained skeptical about you having a boyfriend though. You never mentioned it to anyone, so he chalked it up to you lying.

He didn’t expect you to show up tonight. He didn’t expect to stop singing his duet with the birthday boy to open the door and you forcing a smile on your face when you saw him. Jeonghan couldn’t even say hello because in that moment tipsy Mingyu came to the rescue and hugged the hell out of you, scolding you for hiding away and not even bother to check in on them and then enveloping you in a bone-crushing hug, swinging you back and forth and actually hearing your bones crack at his strength and laughing like his night couldn’t get any better. Everyone surrounded you, asking questions and catching up and you enjoying yourself, gossiping with Pristin and BlackPink, playing musical chairs with Monsta X, swapping stories with BTS and complaining to Seventeen when Nu’est was arriving because you were here for them. It was everything you needed: a fun night catching up with old friends.

Eventually, you ended up in the kitchen, looking for a water bottle to soothe your throat, coughing in an attempt to catch your breath from laughing so hard and bumping into Jeonghan, who was serving himself a slice of cake. “Great night?” He asked you, motioning for you a take a piece which you accepted.

“The best. I missed everyone. It felt like old times.”

He had to agree. “The only difference is we’re not hiding away, eager to rip each other’s clothes off.”

“And it’ll stay like that.” You wrinkled your nose at his words. You’d never felt awkward around him, but now knowing everything was different, you didn’t know what to say. He knew you well, and at one time you, him. He put his hand over yours as if he knew what you were thinking and you retracted it just as fast. “I-”

“Are you sure you have a boyfriend? The words were out before he could even stop himself. “Or are you just giving me an excuse?”

“Yeah, I do. And I’d appreciate you not doing this anymore. I’m not who I used to be.”

“I love who you used to be.”

“I don’t. You made me hate myself.”

“I’m sorry.” He had never apologized for causing you grief before tonight.

“Y/N! You made it after all!” The familiar voice of Jonghyun filled the room.

“It’s for the one and only Kim Mingyu. I wouldn’t dare.”

“Well my love, you look perfect. I’m sorry I’m late.” He kissed your hair, his eyes widening in pleasant surprise when he saw you weren’t alone. “Jeonghan-ssi! I hope I wasn’t interrupting anything.”

He wanted to call out his seonbae for his latest prank, wanted to tell him he got him good. But judging from the way he pulled his arm around your waist, he knew it wasn’t. The cake in his mouth felt dry and found himself choking when he tried to swallow as you left with him.

He took shots the rest of the night, each time he saw you laughing at his words, every time he saw the look in your eyes, every time he shamelessly kissed you, feeling disgusted with himself because he wasn't courageous enough to do it when he had the chance.

He lost his lover and his friend from his actions.

Behind his truth lied everything you are; he knew that too little, too late.

Dreamcatcher Dallas Concert Write-Up

Now that I’m back home and have had time to process the trip, I’m finally ready to write about the experience. It’s gonna be hella long, so strap in! Even now, it’s still kind of hard to believe that it all actually happened. It’s like one of those things that feels like a dream while it's happening ya know?  A friend and I drove up from Houston early Wednesday morning, and arrived in time to grab our merch without any problems. I’m actually pretty impressed with the quality of the goods, they’re definitely not top quality but not cheap either. I had heard Studio PAV had problems organizing the lines and setting up before the concert at the previous stops, but everything seemed to go pretty smoothly by this 3rd tour stop. I was on the fence about the Over the Sky event due to the $200 entry fee, but finally caved when I saw one of my friend’s solo photos. I met up with some friends with 7-Dreamers and we hung out until it was time to go in for OTS at 4pm.

I bought my OTS ticket the night before the concert, and I think there were still some left the last time I checked, but I would guess there was 60-70 of us in there. We were arranged in 2 rows of chairs and then when the girls came out, it was so unreal. I mean I’ve seen them before last year at the LA fanmeet and KCON but maybe I just forgot how beautiful they really are. They were absolutely radiant dressed in angelic white outfits and smiling happily - they probably got some much needed rest in the time between Chicago’s Sunday concert. They did a Q&A session where they answered some questions the fans had written. Filming/pictures were not allowed so I don’t remember much. Some of the answers were pretty basic or things I had heard before. A highlight was Yoohyeon saying she would be a cockroach if she could turn into any animal bc they’re hard to kill lmaoo. Then came the solo photos with our own phones, which I had nervously been anticipating for hours. You could quickly indicate which pose you wanted to go with, lots of people did hearts, rock on signs, and the standard cute kpop poses. One guy did the dab and promptly got heckled by the crowd lol. When my turn came, it all happened so fast that I don’t remember looking directly at each of them. I felt like I would burst into flames like in Indiana Jones or something XD. I first thought about doing the dual heart thing with whoever was going to sit next to me, but I chickened out lol. Then I was going to do rock on until I saw that a lot of other people went with that, so I just decided to do a thumbs up. It all worked out in the end, I could never have dreamed that Jiu would touch my cheek in a thousands years. I think I’ve peaked in life haha. After the photos, the girls went on stage and did some short mic tests, and then we were all ushered back outside.

At this point it was about 5pm, so we still had 3 hours to go until the concert actually started. I’m so glad I got VVIP bc that meant I didn’t have to jump in line and stay there for hours to keep my spot. It was maybe like 40-50 degrees F outside, but not too windy so it wasn’t too bad. I had fun just hanging out and talking with my friends, tho the only bathroom was a gas station across a busy street. The venue was located in this kind of industrial area-turned bar street. Very hip, I think they chose a good place. Finally, around 6:45, we hopped in line according to our VVIP number and we were let into the venue on time. From here we still had to wait an hour for the concert to start, and it was all standing so I’m glad I wore comfortable shoes. The VVIP section was barricaded off from the rest in case you needed to leave and come back, but I was in the 4th row dead center, so I didn’t want to lose my good spot. I wished I had at least gone to the bathroom first, but for once I actually somehow lasted through the full 3 hours.

At 8, the lights dimmed and they started playing some of DC’s songs, and shortly the girls finally came out to a raucous applause. There were 2 people right in front of me wearing these tall headbands with words in Korean on them, which was kind of annoying. And some of the people in front were filming holding their phones way above their heads.. The girls themselves even said to please not do that or use professional cameras, which they still ignored. Come on people, at least observe basic concert etiquette! Nothing could sour my mood though, as what followed was pretty much the best, most action packed 2 hours I’ve ever experienced. They performed the same song set from previous stops, so I won't list every single song. They sang all the title tracks interspersed with unit performances and brief talking parts. I really enjoyed the songs where they just played around and interacted with the crowd, especially the encore set. Sua of course had endless energy and was a real crowd pleaser all night. She played around with a stuffed elephant, tiny pink cowboy hat, and a Handong head cutout during the encore. The Taki Taki and 7 Rings covers naturally killed everybody, and TT/Bad Boy were probably the other crowd favorites. Siyeon was really funny, and her confidence was exemplary, especially during Overdose. I'm biased, but I was really impressed with Jiu's dancing in person. She gave 110% during the choreo, and still somehow managed to incorporate little bits of fan service toward us. All night she was hyping up the crowd, flashing rock ons, and just generally being the loveliest person ever. She almost had us convinced that she was the maknae but Gahyeon was just too cute all night, esp when she couldn't get her coat buttoned up at one point. Yoohyeon tried to help, but messed up and mismatched the buttons which was hilarious. She was kind of subdued all night I feel, but you could see the Rachel in her come out at times, which was very endearing. And Dami was just effortlessly cool, no better way to describe her. All her parts got loud screams from the crowd. Near the end the girls left the stage for a while as the crowd screamed for an encore. Then they came back wearing the tour t-shirts and did the fun songs with no set choreo. I was jealous of the front row since the girls would often crouch down to wave at the phones or throw hearts and stuff at everyone during this time. Of course I should shut up bc I can’t imagine T3 and T4 could see much from the back of the venue since it wasn’t stadium seating :/ At the end, they didn’t even look that tired which was insane after 2 straight hours of non-stop dancing. And Dreamcatcher’s choreo is way more complex than most other groups too! They are truly consummate professionals of the highest degree. Above all you could just tell how much work and effort the girls put into every performance, and beyond that - how thankful they are to InSomnia for the love we show them. They thanked us many times for coming and promised to return as 7 someday. They also made us promise to visit them in Korea lol.

During the hi-touch and group photo after, they must have been really tired but still greeted us with smiles and photocards. It was sad to finally leave the venue, but I have so many happy memories to last a lifetime. This was my fourth kpop concert, and it unquestionably topped them all. It was truly an incredible experience all the way through. I would pretty much describe it as a perfect day, I’m so happy that they finally came for a US tour. If anyone is still able to make it to future concerts, I highly, highly recommend going! It really could be a once in a lifetime experience.

Stephanie: If we were to count just how many times I awwwww’ed this episode, where do you think we’d sit?

Cherry: Hmmm… about eleventy million? 😀 This was a really good episode. I liked hearing the stories of how they got where they are.

Stephanie: It’s part of how we know them, or we know their origin stories, but to hear them tell it, to get their take on it, is really interesting. From Hoseok’s ‘I’m just here to dance, oh you want me to be a rapper?’ to Jungkook’s “I’m just here to dance oh you want me to be main vocalist, please stop yelling at me Jimin’ to RM’s ‘I used to be all dark and ansty but now I’m a super leader’, yeah, it was fun.

Cherry: Hearing RM talk about having to cancel the show in Beijing because he had stage fright? I feel like a bad fan, because this is the first time I’m hearing it. I mean, I’ve heard the songs where he sings about needing to love himself, so I knew there were issues, but this just made it more real. I’m happy that we’ve seen that he’s better now, more okay with himself. More relaxed in his interactions with the guys at fanmeets and stuff.

Stephanie: I know, I had no idea! This is why I love this show so much, the insights we continue to get. It kind of boggles my mind. How does that even work? How did we not hear about this? It seems like it would be a pretty big freaking deal if that’s what happened. I mean Idols have to apologize so much for every real and imagined slight if fans knew he canceled a show for stage fright? I can’t imagine they’d ever let him live it down if it happened for that reason. Poor egg.

Cherry: Another thing that came out of that that I’ve appreciated, but didn’t know the why, is that he channeled his healing into writing music telling other people it’s okay to mess up. I loved when I heard that message in Fire.

Stephanie: That does seem to be the underlying theme to a lot of their music, self-acceptance — which — hellz yeah! This episode really wasn’t so much about the journey but telling us how far they’ve come as performers and people. They take what they do really seriously, and I think you can tell by not just the quality of their work but by how far they’ve come. They really are the little band that could.

Cherry: The little band that could reminds me of Jungkook talking about how he thought they were the most awesome thing in the world, until they debuted, when he realized they had just been ‘a big frog in a small pond.’ Yeah, that’s gotta be an eye-opener. Makes me glad he reacted by trying to improve himself so that he matched the ideal he wanted.

  Stephanie: Those management companies are just like little insulated incubators, I would think especially one as small as BigHit where all of their attention would be focused on BTS. They didn’t have anyone there to compete against, it must have been a bit like being an only child. It’s once you’re out of the nest that you realize that the world isn’t quite so focused on you as you think. I loved the idea that Jungkook said he learned and got more skilled, and that he continues, even though it’s slow, to get even better so that in the future he’ll be worthy of the title ‘main vocalist’. Do I remember him being on Masked Singer?

Cherry: I had to Google that, but you’re right, he was ‘Fencing Man’ on Masked Singer. He sang BigBang’s ‘If You.’ And people were right about his voice being distinctive, I could tell it was him right away. I loved that it was Jimin pushing him and telling him to improve himself. Go Jimin! Such a good hyung.

Stephanie: And now we’re going to have to add Jungkook’s ‘If You’ to our TBW list on Friday. (I have a sneaky suspicion it’s going to turn into BTS-apalooza) One big part of the episode was them trying to figure out the choreography for a performance on a stage that was way too small for them. We were trying to figure it out as it went along, wouldn’t they have considered that before booking the venue? They are a group that sings AND DANCES. Having enough room on the stage would probably be #1 with a bullet. But turns out, not for the concert, but instead for a local tv show heir first here in the states. Loved them at the theater looking at all of the bands that had performed there before.

Cherry: And that’s another one we’ll have to look up for our Friday BTS-a-thon. When we saw them practicing in the hotel room, I was like, “Look! It’s Son Sung Deuk, their choreographer!” I was fangirling so hard. And I was impressed with how they were able to work with him to adjust their choreography for the smaller stage. What little we saw of their performance looked really good.

Stephanie: I actually really enjoyed the inclusion of someone around them. We know that they are always surrounded by people, we even saw people squirting something into each of the members mouths, and yet, with the exception of that little bit with Son Sung Deuk, we never focus on any of them. That had to be a choice.

Cherry: When Taehyung sat on the stage and wondered if there’d be enough ARMY to fill it or whether they’d be performing to an arena? Awww… Don’t worry, baby, they’ll be there. I think that’s just as they were learning how well-known they were internationally.

Stephanie: And how did it feel for you seeing the behind the scenes of the actual concert you went to? Were you looking for you and Mystical Being of Unicorns in the background? I know I was.

Cherry: I totally was, except they weren’t focusing on the people so far to stage left that we couldn’t see the back of the stage during the performances. So I just enjoyed seeing bits of the performances again and realized, along with you, that we’ll never see those bathrobe costumes during the Cyphers again, because they’ll do something totally different next time. sigh I love those bathrobes.

Stephanie: GAH. I remember when I heard the opening notes for this Cypher at my concert and realized they were going to play one of my favorite songs? I nearly DIED. They looked so good in those costumes and TOTALLY owned the stages like bad-asses. It’s funny to realize now that they were actually performing that in the middle of a show, with those heavy jackets/robes ON TOP OF the heavy gem encrusted jacket for the next number. No wonder they are tired at the end of the night.

Cherry: That’s another thing they talked about this episode, is how tired they were after performing so many concerts in a row. That’s definitely something I’ve worried about when I hear about the grueling schedules KPop idols maintain. I’ll see on a fansite that a band is coming right from a performance in, say, Philippines and performing with only a day in between, and I start getting anxious for their health. I mean, that doesn’t keep me from going to their concert, I just feel bad about it later. 😛

Stephanie: We actually experienced that! KCON LA a couple of years back, they literally flew in the day of the concert, having performed the night before and, coming from someone who has seen them multiple times, you can tell the difference, you can see it when they are tired, even if they try to hide it. There has to be a balance between getting lots of concerts in and the well-being of the band. It makes for a not great experience for the band or the concert-goers. (Not that I didn’t love them, saying it right now, but YOU COULD SEE THE DIFFERENCE. I was at NY and LA KCon, there was a difference between those two performances, both band and viewers deserve to have the best experience possible. And you know, keep our boys healthy and happy.)

Cherry: That’s why I was glad to see them able to get out and be tourists after their shows in LA. We had Hoseok, Jungkook, Jimin, and Jin at an aquarium and bowling; Taehyung and RM at an outdoor photoshoot and eating; and Yoongi… shopping at Best Buy? Whatever helps you relax, dude, I’m all for it.

Stephanie: Highlight of the freaking episode. They were so adorable! And seeing them get time off in both LA and Chicago was nice. When they Kai Bai Bo-ed to see who had to get hot dogs for everyone and you could see Jin standing in line stressing about how to order twelve hot dogs in English? Ah-Dorable.

Cherry: They were still at the point where there was little chance they’d be recognized. They’re not quite mainstream here, yet, but the recognition factor is higher now than it was then. I loved that they all got together at a barbecue at the end and drank together.

Stephanie: I saw you Kookie, and your underage drinking. 😉 This episode was just a bunch of hard work, cuteness and light, almost a little cathartic after last episode. Was looking at screenshots and noticed that in that first meeting about the too small stage? Tae and Jin sitting together. YAY Harmony amongst coworkers and friends reigns again!

sf9 stands for “sensational feeling 9,” they’re an idol group under fnc entertainment that debuted on october 6, 2016. before debut they were in a program called neoz school as the neoz dance team, along with 4 other trainees that made up the neoz band team (now honeyst, check them out they’re great!) the two groups then entered the survival show dance or band (d.o.b) to get a chance at debut. the dance team won by a very close vote so they got to debut first. in korea, sf9 has released one single album, called feeling sensation, and two extended plays, called burning sensation and breaking sensation. in japan, they’ve recently released two singles, fanfare and easy love. they are currently holding fanmeetings around asia and will be at kcon la next month!

Sometimes I think about how fandom can be chaotic and how even within the fandom there could be just a lot of things that make being an EXO-L hard or unpleasant but then remember that my own experience with fans has been okay, especially in person. One experience I can really rememberwas back in 2013 when EXO(T12) came for KCON. 

My sister-in-law and I got to get audience passes so we were able to see their Q&A and everything. While in line we got to talk with some of the other fans -- my sister-in-law is more opened than I am and I was all shy and got them talking-- and it was really nice because in RL I didn’t have anyone to talk about fandom stuff like that. The one that I really remember was this girl who had a rainbow wig (because ya’kno Sehun had the whole rainbow hair during WOLF). 

After the session, I was super emotional and started to tear up (because I mean all 12 of them were so *_* and hahaha yeah) and one of the girls we met up was like “Do you need a hug?” and even though I just met her, and I’m known to be a hugger only to those I’m comfortable with, I nodded and she hugged me tight. And I was just like *these EXO fans are so nice*

Anyway, after the concert, and all the artists were coming back around, the girl with the rainbow hair came back, but she didn’t have the wig and I was confused on who she was but she was like “WE SAW THEM!” and hugged us and my sister in law had to tell me it was the “Sehun girl” and we just all started laughing and just really having a great time.

Now 4 years later, I still have great experiences like at their recent concert in LA when my phone died, the girls who was with us were like “Here, use our portable charger!” And I was like “really?” and they were like “Of course!” and I was like T___T <3 even though all I really wanted to do was charge my phone so I can rewatch my fancams but they were like “It’s all good~” 

Hahaha so I’m thankful for all the fans I’ve met, past and present and have made being an EXO-L really fun and enjoyable :)

this is more or less a post for my own reference bc i tend to forget things rlly easily... and i really don’t want to forget this weekend!! sorry if this is unreadable.. like i said, it’s mainly for my own reference ghfjdksn

friday convention: pretty uneventful seeing as it’s only the first day... me n my friend lined up to try for the w1 hitouch but we were told to come back at 2pm. we had heize’s audience engagement to go to at that time, so we just ended up buying w1 banners and nametags anyways bc tbh.. we didn’t have a chance at winning LOL.. (i heard fansites bought all the merch tho? so at least we got our stuff before that madness). a lot of people were selling their heize passes, so the rest of our party bought them to go in and honestly.. it’s a loss for the people who sold them !! heize is one of the sweetest n down to earth people i’ve ever met/seen... someone in the hi-touch area got her an olaf backpack and she was so excited!! she also said she really liked the vibe of la and that more people showed up than she expected (which broke my heart HJKDS). she also describes herself as a “srapper/ringer” bc she says she likes both singing and rapping... im gna fast forward to the cosmic girls audience engagement which was.. life changing tbh.. they’re all so pretty and cute irl, but bona couldn’t make it for some reason :( yeonjung sang miracle + secret, dawon did eunseo’s “hing~”, and meiqi did luda’s “mollah-ah”. they were also asked who they wanted to switch bodies with and from what i can remember, dayoung wanted to switch bodies with dawon (bc in her words, dawon is “hot, tall, and sexy” HJFSHLJ), and luda wanted to switch bodies with seola (bc she’s really pretty.. and i agree!! all of them are!!!) cheng xiao is my bias but unfortunately she didn’t say much..... also every idol whose never been to la wants in n out but i don’t blame them, it’s good!! i didn’t have that great of a view either bc the people in front of me were already tall + they were against the barrier which adds another inch or so to their height.. but overall it was a cute n fun audience engagement!! we went home afterwards bc there was nothing else left to do..

saturday convention: we went early bc my friend had sf9′s audience engagement so while we waited for her to finish that, me n the rest of the party just went around the convention hall and got free stuff :’)) when she came back, we went to juncurryahn’s meet and greet. he’s rly nice and talented, but i don’t watch his videos so i didn’t know what was going on majority of the time... afterwards we were going to get food and i was going to line up for seventeen’s audience engagement, but on the way out i saw people already lining up outside? when i asked what was going on, a guard told me to wait in the indoor waiting area but when i went there, vixx’s audience engagement hadn’t gone in yet. i asked the woman scanning bracelets but she told me to go outside. when i told her the situation, she then said i could stay inside. thirty minutes later, more people came in and started complaining so she told us all to.. go back outside lmfao... when i headed back outside the guard said the waiting area was full, so i’d just have to sit around until they started letting people line up again... i did meet a few more carats in line tho so i guess? it’s fine.. i also got a mingyu fan from one of his fansites, like u! it was super hectic inside bc a lot of people were crowding me and i was getting anxious, but the carats i met in line were nice enough to check up on me every few minutes to make sure i was okay... and seeing seventeen..... made my heart stop.... i couldn’t get a good view bc 1) im short and 2) people brought posters and constantly held them up whenever their biases talked.. it was a good experience but the only thing that bothered me was people screaming whenever a member tried to talk... i’d hate to be biased but seeing dino in the same room as me was the most memorable.. like he actually glows irl and he’s so handsome and pictures don’t do him justice!!!!!!! also junhui? ethereal. he can’t exist like.. he’s too handsome. they then played a dice game where each number means they have to do a certain thing.. dino got freestyle dance (how fitting...), seungkwan and wonwoo got fav pop song (when we were young + see you again, respectively), jeonghan and joshua both got aegyo, dk got random dance (and he threw the dice inflatable into the crowd and.. mightve hit someone ? idk i only heard him apologizing!!), and mingyu got sexy dance (hgfjdkl it was funny bc he started off fine but got rlly awkward n shy). everyone and their mothers are hip hop team stans btw... after that i left to go find my friends at the mwave stage, where they were doing signed album giveaways. oh my girl was having a fansign at star square in thirty minutes and i happened to be near the barrier where they walked by... in the midst of waiting for oh my girl to come out, my friend’s number was called for an album and he got the night version of astro’s dream pt 01 signed by all members!! literally 3 minutes later oh my girl came out and??????? they’re so pretty i was FLOORED.. i could only get a good look at jiho’s face before a guard stepped in front of me tho.. but i did see all the other member’s side profiles and? i love girls. wow. once that was over, we went to go get food and line up for the concert when the friend who won the album said he didn’t listen to astro.. and he gave it to me....... i started crying

saturday concert: HJFKDSLHJFK IT WAS WILD TBH!! the pre show was really good w/ juncurryahn playing crush’s beautiful on the violin and dancing to not today.. then it was krnfx and he beatboxed a few songs.. also lydia paek joined him for bs&t which was cool!! the first mc’s for the night were scoups, joshua, and vernon and i kind of.. lost my shit HJKDSLHJFK.... i don’t rmr the exact order but i do know that sf9 was the first act and they performed fanfare, jungle game, and easy love. also when they did the whole robot acrobatics thing in jungle game? my face was like :O the whole time!!!! chani looked like a cute lil pumpkin and zuho... is spicy... after that was cosmic girls and I LOVE!!!! THOSE SPACE ANGELS!!!! SOO MUCH!!!!! they performed happy, i wish, and secret (though i really wanted them to perform miracle...) i’m not a big fan of girl’s day but they’re sooo beautiful and they performed i’ll be yours, something. and ring my bell.. i knew nothing about suju d&e but they did 3 songs! the only song i can recall the name of is oppa oppa, which is really catchy... vixx’s act was really good!! they performed shangri-la, black out, and fantasy, but i was thinking about haknyeon and ravi’s lil head twirl part the whole time ghjdfkl.... vixx had a thing called ‘pinata time’ and got photo session, and they made cute poses around the stage so fans could take pictures of them. seventeen was the last act and ................ it was life changing, truly... they performed don’t wanna cry and I STARTED CRYING BC I LOVE THOSE BOYS SO MUCH AND WORDS CAN’T DESCRIBE HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO ME AND HOW MUCH THEY’VE DONE FOR ME.... they had a pinata time and got everyone in the venue to dance to mansae which made me tear up again... they shot signed tshirts into the crowd in reserved seating!! mingyu + jun + woozi had to share a gun and after they shot one shirt, mingyu was trying to put the other shirt in and almost broke the gun HJFKLHJSDK... jun was interacting w/ the crowd all while woozi n mingyu were trying to figure it out.. like he was just shrugging and being his cute bubbly self.. eventually a staffer had to come up and help them lmao.. they also performed boom boom and aju nice which put me in the happiest mood!! i wanted them to perform pretty u which is like.. my fav song.. but i would have started UGLY CRYING so i’m glad they didn’t... somewhere in between cosmic girls invented the song i need u and sf9 covered sorry sorry... both groups danced together for the last chorus or so for sorry sorry..... also all of svt’s units performed a song! performance team did swimming fool, vocal did habit, and hip hop did check in. but saturday’s concert was amazing and seventeen.. really did change my life..... i also hope hoshi is feeling better !!!

sunday convention: got lost on the freeway and we all started freaking out bc we thought we’d miss wanna one at the innisfree booth. fortunately we made it in time, but the booth was already packed and there were people pushing and shoving. the security was really rude and told people near the back “if you cant see anything you’re wasting your time, what are you doing with your lives??” though i get he was doing his jobs.. there’s better ways to just tell us to back up lmao... i also i stood next to a baejin fansite (cheese bae) and they gave me a banner! my friend and i got claustrophobic and left, but i’m glad i did bc the people in front of me were a good 7 inches taller than me and when wanna one showed, the pushing got so bad that kcon threatened to end the session. the rest of the party stayed and said that they were only there for 5 minutes and that they looked visibly upset (understandable bc of the whole airport incident. i don’t blame them if they hate la lmao). they did get a blurry video of baejin and daniel tho so.. they airdropped that to me. we did pretty much everything the convention hall had to offer and no workshops/panels really interested us so we just hung around the toyota booth for astro... there i got a sanha fan from a fansite, but their name isn’t on the fan so i can’t find them :(... kard was said to make an appearance at the state farm booth right next to the toyota one, so it got crowded and my friend and i left. we just sat in the entrance hall near an outlet until astro came out, and we stood near the elevator so we could see them walk out... sanha is unbelievably tall. like.... what’s he so tall for. why. also while waiting i got a taeyong banner from leetaeyongbar! we then decided to go back inside to hopefully see wanna one at star square, so we went to the area where we stood for oh my girl. luckily not a lot of people cared to stand in the back so we got right up by the barrier. i also talked to a wannable and she was rlly sweet!! i mentioned getting anxious abt crowds of people against me and she also made sure i was okay, which is nice.. also a fansite stood behind me and i told her that if i was in the way, she could just let me know.. i dont know which fansite she is but she was nice n was thankful!!! wanna one came out and i only got a good look at guanlin (who is tall, but not sanha tall) before staff stood in front of me.. after they walked by a bunch of people left so i got closer and waited for them to come out... i’m glad i stayed bc i actually saw them walk out... and jisung!!!!!!!! waved!!!!!! in our direction!!!!!!!!!!!! my heart almost burst out of my chest bc he’s so handsome irl and he’s so cute and he looked really happy... after that we left to line up for the concert

sunday concert: sunday’s crowd was a lot bigger than saturday’s, and i’m pretty sure everyone there was a got7 stan... while in line i saw papa tuan (mainly bc he was dressed as their lightstick, which was cute)!!! inside the venue, the girl sitting next to me as also an aroha so we talked abt astro while we waited for the concert to start!! the preshow was a band called iamnot (correct me if i’m wrong, i couldn’t read their logo ghjfdk) and they were really good.. i liked their act a lot!!! the night’s hosts were mark and jackson, and they did a good job hyping up the crowd (tho everyone in there was a got7 stan so.. who wouldn’t be hyped lol). when they were calling up all the artists, heize brought the olaf backpack on with her and my heart!!!!! exploded w love for my mother!!!!!! once again i don’t remember the exact order, but i do know that the first act was kard, who performed don’t recall, hola hola, and oh nana. we also sang happy birthday to somin who teared up :’)). also j.seph is super cute n shy........ heize performed don’t know you. after a small ment, a sign asked us to turn on our phone flashlights... the music for star started and heize started to cry bc of all of the lights hjgfdklhg :( she only performed two songs... oh my girl performed coloring book and closer, and yooa is sosososo pretty!!! arin is super cute too!!! also binnie doesn’t have bangs anymore and my heart almost stopped!!! my robong DIED during coloring book bc me, being the fool i am, reused batteries from my carat bong... the aroha next to me gave me her spare batteries which was so nice of her... but then her robong died during closer so i gave back the batteries bc i knew astro as her ult, n she needed those batteries more than me LOL.. when wanna one performed, the girl saw me with my banner and she asked to record for me and i’m so grateful!!! they performed energetic and burn it up, and i think me and my friend got on the screen for like 2 seconds HJKDLSHJGKL... astro did a collab with kim taewoo and they did so well!! the dance was super energetic but their voices still sounded so good!!! kim taewoo then performed and his voice was really nice.. i can’t recall the song names but i believe his last song was love rain? astro performed should’ve held on, breathless (with a transition into polaris), and baby!! sanha was soo cute during the ment :(( they also had a pinata time and made tshirts to throw to those in the pit. they also had tshirt guns and shot those to the reserved seats... also i recorded the performance for the aroha next to me in exchange for the w1 videos... nct’s stage was.. so hype.... they performed firetruck, limitless, and cherry bomb!! some of the mics weren’t working during the ment so mark leaned over to let taeil use his in-ear mic and everyone in the venue went wild... also sicheng’s self intro was “my name is winwin!!! today.. we winwin!!!!!!!!” HJFKSLHJSF HE’S SO CUTE I LOVE HIM SO MUCH I’LL FOREVER BE SICHENGSGIRL NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I CHANGE MY URL.... once again, the aroha next to me recorded nct for me and i later recorded got7 for her.. jj project performed, and they did never ever, hard carry, and?? correct me if i’m wrong but confession song?? idk.. they had a pinata time as well and a lucky fan got proposed to by three members, who i think were bambam, jaebum, and jackson. somewhere in between, wanna one came out again in navy colored school uniforms and perfomed never and nayana.. and i teared up during the latter... after the concert was over, me n the aroha airdropped each other the videos... i never got her name but she was super sweet and im glad i got to sit next to someone who didn’t consider my screaming obnoxious (she apologized for screaming during astro and got7 but.. we get each other LOL)

overall i’m so happy that i saw 6/6 of the groups i stan at my very first kcon!!! it’s rlly a memory i want to keep forever.. but i probably won’t go again in a long time (unless ofc.... wanna one or seventeen decide to come again :’))) )

K.A.R.D has been rising in popularity even before the official debut! How do you feel about the love you’re receiving so far in Korea and internationally? BM: None of us expected this much attention to come in such a short amount of time. It’s really a blessing to have so many people all over the world appreciate and vibe to our music. J.SEPH: I’m so thankful for the love. Because of the attention and love we’ve gotten, we were able to grow more. To meet the expectations, we’ll continue to work harder and continue to monitor ourselves. SOMIN: It’s still so surreal and I’m just always thankful for the amount of love we’re getting. JIWOO: Despite our worries, there were a lot of positive feedback so I’m very thankful for that. We haven’t had a lot of opportunities to meet the fans face to face.

What are you looking forward to the most when coming to the US for your “WILD KARD” in USA tour? BM: I’ve never visited Canada, nor have I ever been outside of Cali while living in the states, so I’m very excited to see places I haven’t yet. Also, I’m very hyped to perform at my hometown in front of friends and family that I haven’t seen in years! J.SEPH: I’m so excited and happy to meet the international fans! There’s a thirst that we can’t quench with just online encounters. SOMIN: For the first time, we’re meeting out international fans so that’s what I’m most excited about.JIWOO: Above all, seeing the fans is what I’m excited about.

BM, you’ve mentioned that you’d love to come perform in your hometown, LA and it’s happening! How do you feel? What are you most excited about? BM: I’ve been away from home for almost 6 years now and that was always my biggest struggle. Friends and family always worried about my future, but to finally be able to show them what I’ve been working on makes me very excited and nervous at the same time. Hopefully our show meets their expectations.

What can we look forward to the most during the US tour? BM: A LOT of swag and wilding out. A lot of goofiness too because us K.A.R.D members are all a buncha goobers J.SEPH: I think if you come with the curiosity and excitement of KARD performing foreign pop songs in our own color, you’ll enjoy the performances a bit more. It’s a little pressuring to perform such well known songs but we’ve prepped hard so please enjoy it!~~~ SOMIN: Although our songs have their own charms but because we’re a co-ed group, there are unit performances that only KARD can do. I think that’s what you can look forward to. JIWOO: Our teamwork…? We’ve never “talked” a lot but our teamwork is really great so I think you’ll find our charms during the chat time.

Can you tell us what your ideal type is? BM: My ideal type used to be CL, Jessi, and Hyolyn, but nowadays I don’t really discriminate. I’m looking for a woman who works hard, has confidence, has a positive mindset, and knows how to appreciate a good man. J.SEPH: First, a tall person with beautiful eyes. A person who looks good in a ponytail. A person with a positive vibe. SOMIN: I don’t have a specific type but I like manly men. JIWOO: It’s always so hard answering this question! Hmm… Somebody that’s like me. Specifically, not on the outside but on the inside like interests, personality, music taste, etc.. And I’d like somebody who has a lot of different sides to them. Very reliable and comforting but also playful.. Just anybody with charms. Is this too difficult..? The members always ask me where a person like that is but I think everyone has their own charms so I believe there’s something like that out there! ‘ㅁ’

Is there a hobby that you guys have gotten into? BM: I used to skateboard a lot in high school and I’m slowly starting to get back into it. Nothing is more fun than hobbies you enjoyed in your younger days. J.SEPH: Nothing special but just soccer, soccer games, watching soccer, sporting involving balls. SOMIN: When I have some free time, I like to watch movies at home or at the theaters. And because I have to constantly be on a diet, I’m trying to make exercising a hobby of mine. JIWOO: Nothing too special but shopping, watching movies, finding new music, reading, watching animal videos, etc.. It’s just normal stuff haha

Who was your role model when prepping for K.A.R.D? BM: K.A.R.D is such a unique group that we really had no group to look up to and try to be like. Even now, it’s still so new to us being that we’re a coed group doing dancehall. We hope to be a good role model for aspiring future coed groups! J.SEPH: I respect all co-ed groups but because we have our own color, it’s hard to pick a “role model”. I hope to become a role model for somebody later! SOMIN: Instead of KARD’s role model, my personal role model was Lee Hyo-Ri becase she has her own aura and can adapt to anything. I hope to be like her in the way she makes everything her own. JIWOO: Ever since I was young, I respected Beyonce and Rhianna. And I respect BoA… (heart)

What is one song that you can listen to without getting sick of it? BM: Russ – “Aint Nobody Takin My Baby” J.SEPH: Dynamic Duo’s “How Wings”. The intro was so good so I set it as my alarm which I hate hearing… but even as an alarm I didn’t get sick of it… SOMIN: “Oh Na Na”, “Don’t Recall”, “Rumor” and every song that is to come out. JIWOO: There are sooooooooo many!!! I want to show you my entire playlist. Right now, I am writing this as I’m listening to NU’EST’s “Daybreak”. I like that it makes me feel happy, warm, and relaxed.

How would you describe your style of music in five words for those who have not had a chance to listen to you guys? BM: Easy to vibe out to.Dance wise, singing wise, or if you’re having a hard day. We like to put a lot of positive energy into our songs when we record or when we dance, and we hope that other people will feel that too. J.SEPH: King King Jjang Jjang man SOMIN: Your ears will be healed JIWOO: It’s like a prism. We will be artists that show off our charms in many different colors.

1) Who is your favorite girl group?

Tough question. I used to love 4minute and 2ne1 but if we’re talking about active groups then it’d be either GFriend, Blackpink or Mamamoo. Dreamcatcher is slowly going up my list too, I really like their style.

2) Who is your favorite boy group?

B.A.P. I just love them and their work so much, all their songs are perfectly crafted in every way, and they’re so lovely, hardworking and talented. They’ve been through so much but they fought together and are still trying, I really admire them.

3) Are there any choreographies that you love the most (from any group)?

I have to answer B.A.P again. I just love their choreographies, I think they’re so complex and well executed. I particularly love Power and One Shot but all of them are amazing, really. There are other incredibly talented groups I love too: GFriend, SHINee, Infinite and BTS, to name a few.

4) Do you prefer when groups release hype songs or when they release chill songs?

Normally I like hype songs better, there are some ballads I love but they’re usually my least favorite songs in an album.

5) What was your favorite debut song (from any group)?

I don’t want to turn this into a B.A.P biased meme buuut I love Warrior lol, I’m not a big fan of the all-blond style but I really love the song and the choreo. My other favorite debut song is Fanfare by SF9, I fell so hard for it, had it on repeat for days.

6) Are there any groups you wish that were not underrated/would get more recognition?

I’m going to write a lengthy answer for this and it might not even make any sense so I apologize in advance lol.

I try not to think too much about this because it’s dangerously close to what I personally consider “bad fan-etiquette”. Doesn’t matter how much someone screams underrated, it’s always a biased opinion. A specific group might be the best thing on earth for me but it doesn’t have to be for the rest of the people, everybody has their own taste and their criteria of what’s important in a group. Not only there’s no real way to objectively rank idols based on how good they are or how popular they deserve to be, but I feel like it shouldn’t matter much anyway. I know there’s a limit of how “nugu” a group can be before they disappear so we all worry and fight hard to make sure our groups are known, but as long as they get by well enough to survive I don’t care too much about awards and number of views or stans. Sadly, that’s not really how you measure talent or professionality (even if some people like think so), let alone how lovely or hardworking they are. And sometimes talent isn’t even relevant, in my opinion, sometimes you just like a group simply because you do and you’re perfectly entitled to. I don’t like forcing anything on anybody and I don’t like putting value where it doesn’t belong.

Stuffy rant said (sorry for that, it’s a topic I’m somewhat passionate about and I couldn’t help it lol), I’m going to answer this question anyway. I personally wish B.A.P and Monsta X had more recognition, in my very biased opinion. B.A.P was on a really good path before everything went to hell because of the lawsuit issue, and I think it’s really unfair because they were brave enough to fight back and they ended up being punished for it. And Monsta X is doing so well and they’re so good but they still haven’t won anything and they think it’s their fault, so it’s frustrating. But there’s nothing I can really do about it besides “doing my part” and buying/streaming/recommending them when asked, so why complain about it.

7) Do you choose your biases or do your biases choose you?

They choose me. I always try to choose and stick to it but it’s inevitable, they come for me hahaha. When I get into a new group I choose the cutest member and go with it, but then I get to know them and usually someone else does something that makes me go ‘who are you and where have you been all my life’.

9) What made you fall in love with Kpop?

I just love the aesthetics and how professional they are. I was in awe, the way they train for this and how hard they work for every single comeback after they debut. They have to sacrifice so much to become idols, they spend so many uncertain years trying to debut without even knowing if they ever will – and when they do, it’s not like everything is done and they’re going to live in luxury the way popular Western artists do. Being an idol is really hard and the competition is brutal, you never know how long you’re going to be up. It’s amazing, you don’t see this kind of commitment and professionality around here, in my opinion.

10) Do you have an merchandise of your favorite groups?

I do! I’m very picky when it comes to merch but I own several t-shirts/hoodies, lightsticks, photocards and some other goodies.

11) Do you have any song or group recommendations?

Aw man, how am I supposed to choose. I’m going to say B.A.P again, sorry. I love Skydive, 1004 (Angel) and Wake me up, such good videos. I love VIXX’s mvs as well, they’re always so dark and dramatic. I love EXO’s Monster, Monsta X’s All in and BTS’ Run too. I can’t really choose one hahaha.

My ult bias is Bang Yong Guk from B.A.P. Where do I even start. I feel like we’re very similar, he looks introverted and quiet and someone who is very active inside his mind, but who is also funny, quirky and sassy. I feel like I’d feel really comfortable around him. I don’t know how to explain it, he seems to have a nice and calm aura and I feel so at ease with such people (introverted things lol). He’s really smart and socially aware, he doesn’t speak much but every time he does he says the right thing. He’s such a good caretaker, all the boys love him and respect him SO much, I feel like it says a lot about him and how he makes people close to him feel. He’s an amazing person as well, he does so much for other people and gives so much to charity, I feel like we don’t even know half of it but it’s already impressive. He’s so incredibly talented too, he plays such an active part in the creation of their songs and they are always so good (and so is the rest of the work he does under his known pseudonym.) I could go on forever but I won’t do that to you lol basically, he’s an incredibly amazing and gorgeous human being, an amazing leader and a talented artist.

Most of the people I stan, really. I just love everybody so much, they move up and down on the messy list all the time. They’re all amazing. I guess I’d say the rest of B.A.P if I had to choose, specially Youngjae.

6) Have you ever seen a kpop group live/been to kcon?

I have! I went to KCON LA 2016 and I’ve also seen EXO, GOT7, SHINee, Red Velvet, AOA, FT Island, Tiger JK and Dean live. Amazing experiences, all of them. I’m really hoping they’ll do a KCON in Europe this year.

7) Is there a group you want to see live?

B.A.P! They’re coming to Europe next month but nowhere near me and I can’t take the time to travel far because of work (all the dates are weekdays, WHYYY). I’ve already seen Monsta X and GFriend at KCON but I’d love to go a solo concert, that’d be lovely. I’d love to see BIGBANG, VIXX, BTS (if it’s in a seat far away from the rest of fans), Mamamoo, Highlight and Block B too. Who am I kidding, I’d love to see everybody I stan lol.

8) What was your favorite comeback of 2017 so far?

B.A.P, of course hahaha. I’ve loved many comebacks and debuts actually, obviously Highlight’s “debut” is a close second but I also really liked GOT7, Winner, Day6, Victon, SF9, Teen Top, IMFACT, BTS, CLC, AOA and CNBlue. If we’re talking about debuts, I really liked Dreamcatcher, MVP, Seven O’Clock, Black6ix and UNIT BLACK. I’m probably forgetting a couple debuts/comebacks I loved lol.

9) What upcoming comeback are you looking forward to?

Highlight’s Junhyung is making a solo comeback soon and I’m super excited about it! He’s my BEAST/Highlight bias, and I love his work and rapping style. I’m high key excited about Triple H’s debut too, I love Hyuna and Pentagon so I’m looking forward to see what they come up with!

10) Is there a group that you know of that you want to get into?

I have what I call my “side-children”, it’s basically groups I check out when they come back and occasionally see on my dash but I don’t actively follow. I’d like to get more into them, I don’t know much beyond the music and I wish I did. Groups like KNK, IMFACT, B1A4, 24K or Brave Girls, among others.

11) What’s your favorite kind of album concept? (royalty, cute, gang, elegant, sexy, etc.)

I usually like any concept as long as it’s well done and it fits the group, but I’m not very into cute concepts. I tend to favor dark and aggressive concepts best but I don’t have a favorite, I’m in for anything if they can pull it off successfully.

Why K-Pop Star Chung Ha Washes Her Face Three Times Every Night

Raise your hand if you’re ready for Chung Ha to have a goth concept. The 22-year-old Korean pop singer has covered the bases for cute and colorful looks since debuting with disbanded girl group I.O.I in 2016. Now that she’s been a soloist for a good year and a half, imagine her swiping on black lipstick before taking the stage.

Chung Ha doesn’t hate the idea when I suggest it during a recent phone interview. “Maybe for Halloween,” she tells me as she sits backstage before a performance in Seoul. “One day, I would love to try it.” She even brings up trying out a midnight blue lipstick because she loves dark lip colors, so I swear I’m not the only one who is putting this concept into the universe for Chung Ha.

At the moment, Chung Ha is focusing on the concept for her newest mini-album Blooming Blue, though. True to the season, the music video for its title song “Love U” radiates summer vibes, including but not limited to, Chung Ha’s beachy blonde-streaked brown hair and popsicle-stained lips. “[The concept] might remind you of a pool party,” Chung Ha says. I dare you to watch the music video and not want to slip on your bathing suit.

Experimenting With Beauty Trends

Some of this summer’s most popular beauty trends also dominate Blooming Blue’s concept. I have to admit that I screamed internally when I scrolled past a photo Chung Ha posted on Instagram to tease the album of her face speckled with pearls in the formation of freckles. It’s exactly the kind of experimental look that gets me excited about covering K-pop for Allure.

For another promo shot, half of Chung Ha’s hair was tied up into two mini buns, her cheeks were swept with a lemon-yellow blush, and her lids were covered in a shimmery wash of bubblegum pink. Bold eye shadow, in particular, has been incorporated into makeup as she makes the rounds on South Korea’s popular music shows to promote “Love U.” Like many K-pop stars, Chung Ha consistently has the same makeup for every performance. For this comeback, colorful underliner is the focal point of her makeup. “I put on different colored eye shadows on my [lower lids],” she says of her everyday look. Today, she notes that it’s purple, but she’s also done baby blue and fuchsia.

My favorite part of the whole look is the tiny star-shaped rhinestones placed right below Chung Ha’s tear ducts. While promoting her last title song “Rollercoaster,” Chung Ha points out that she had circular ones on the middle of her lower lids. For her goth concept, she can do tiny half moons on the outer corners of her eyes — just saying.

Because Chung Ha seems so on top of beauty trends, I ask her if there are any happening in Korea that haven’t made their way to the U.S. yet. “I’m not sure because we can share everything on YouTube,” she says. True. That’s how she recently found out about cryotherapy. “I haven’t tried it before, but I really want to,” she says. Maybe we should get cryofacials while we’re in Los Angeles for KCON LA? (I’m only half-kidding.)

The Impact of “Rollercoaster”on Chung Ha’s Look Throughout our interview, Chung Ha repeatedly refers back to “Rollercoaster.” Its bright concept truly helped solidify and define Chung Ha’s aesthetic in the K-pop world. Not only was has it been her favorite concept so far, but it’s also one that she says fits her personal style best. The glow-in-the-dark makeup was fun, but Chung Ha still isn’t over the amount of glitter involved. I thought I loved glitter, but Chung Ha lives for it. She brings it up so many times I start to wonder if it runs through her veins.

With copious amounts of sparkle on her eyes, outfits, and nails for the music video, the concept made Chung Ha feel more comfortable than, say, the cutesy, ice cream-themed concept I.O.I had for its final album. (She names this as the hardest concept for her to pull off.) While in the makeup chair for “Rollercoaster,” “I gave a lot of suggestions, like, let’s do glitter here, let’s do glitter there,” she says. “I love glitter so much.”

Turns out, giving input on her hair and makeup concepts is commonplace for Chung Ha. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like input from others either. “I also love listening to other people’s advice, so I could try new stuff like the freckles,” she adds.

Chung Ha does have thoughts on her next concept, though. Surprisingly, the look she has is mind is completely opposite to her favorite look. “For my next concept, I’d like to go very matte with more of a nude tone,” she says. “And my hair not colorful, just black or maybe brown — really minimal.”

Chung Ha’s Go-To Skin-Care Routine Despite being experimental with her hair and makeup in her professional life, Chung Ha rarely tries out new looks when she’s not working. “Because I wear makeup all the time when I’m on schedule and on stage, I give my skin time to rest and breathe,” she explains. “I actually don’t put on makeup that much in my free time.”

Instead, Chung Ha concentrates on giving her skin some TLC with soothing sheet masks. “They’re comfortable and easy to dispose of,” she explains. Wash-off masks, on the other hand, aren’t her favorite because rinsing them off can be harsh on skin, and she’s all about gentle formulas.

Cleansing is also a key part of Chung Ha’s skin-care routine. “Even if you put so many good products on, there’s no use if your skin isn’t washed thoroughly,” she explains. If she’s wearing makeup, Chung Ha starts off with an eye makeup remover before embarking on a three-step process. An oil cleanser kicks things off by gently sweeping away any leftover makeup. (My favorite is the Banila Co Clean It Zero Original Cleansing Balm, in case you’re looking for a recommendation.) Then, she reaches for a foaming cleanser like the Neogen Real Cica Micellar Cleansing Foam.

Lastly, Chung Ha like to do what she calls “bubbling it out” with face wash that, well, bubbles. (She didn’t mention her go-to, but try the Belif Pore Cleaner Bubble Foam.) “That’s about it,” she finishes off the list, as if it isn’t an extensive cleansing regimen. I tell her some people just use a face wipe and call it a day, so I respect her washing her face three times. “Really?” she replies. “I thought I was really simple because I wear so much makeup.”

She thinks the rest of her routine was simple, too. Spoiler alert: It’s not. After cleansing comes her toner set. The first one is a cleansing toner. (Allure editors love the Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner.) The second is a hydrating toner. Then, she smooths on an essence, a moisturizer, and a sleeping pack — in that order.

If you lost count of how many steps that is, Chung Ha’s skin-care routine adds up to nine steps. Occasionally, a tenth is incorporated. “If I would do another one, I would do eye cream,” she adds. “But I don’t usually do my eye cream. I forget.” Same. I’m glad K-pop stars forget to put on eye cream, too.

Summer is just getting started but it’s already HOT.

This past month has been pretty calm. My mom was up in Oregon up until last week so I’ve had a lot more time to work and study without her bothering me. After all the chaos in April, May, and June, I’m glad things have settled down in July.

I still have so much more to learn it’s ridiculous. While I’m capable of doing my job at work, software engineering has an infinite ceiling of improvement and I’ve barely dipped my feet in the water. I started this daily task of asking my next door cubicle-neighbor for some life advice, and he tells me the best stories. He’s talked about the importance of doing meaningful work, the struggles he went through when first coming to America, what to look forward to when living alone, and much more. In terms of growing as a person, I feel that listening to the experiences of people who are farther down the road of life than me and picking out the good from their stories is one of the best things you can do.

My operating systems book is getting dry. I’m about halfway through this 600 page textbook, but I hit the chapter of multiprocessor scheduling and my interest seems to be diminishing. I still feel obligated to be doing reading on the side to improve my skills in the workplace. It’s too easy to have your knowledge stagnate when working full-time, but getting through this book is becoming more and more of a challenge.

While I’ve tried to cut out some of the pointless things in my life,keeping up with the GSL and wasting time on this website are still really meaningful to me. I’m still a huge fan of the depth of strategy and high skillcap of Starcraft, and I need Tumblr as an outlet for Internet memes and seeing f(x) and GFriend. The laugh I get from some of the stuff I see on this website is priceless, and while this might not be the “best” objective use of my time, it’s a good break from the rest of my life.

My mom can drive me insane sometimes. It’s almost ridiculous how one person can be this afraid of any semblance of adversity.

Listening to music has always been something that’s just semi-voluntary, such as hearing songs on the radio or needing some background noise while I do some reading. More recently, I’ve actually realized how important music is in some of my everyday tasks. I forget the name of the theory, but it talked about “high stimulus, low effort and low stimulus, high effort” and how the human attention span works. A high effort task (finding directions when you’re lost) requires low stimulus (turning the radio down), and vice versa (doing homework [low effort] while blasting music [high stimulus]). The workday would be pretty boring if I didn’t have pop music to get me through the day.

I find it incredibly difficult to share music with someone. Everyone forms their own opinions about songs and trying to reach the common ground with someone proves to be difficult. And when you do show someone a song, either 1) they aren’t actually listening to it, 2) they’ll judge the song before it reaches the chorus, or 3) it’ll take them multiple listens to appreciate it the way you do. I’ve been keeping the songs I listen to to myself but I could imagine how nice it would be to have someone with the same taste in music as me.

I’ve recently had a huge burst in motivation to continue studying Korean. I sent my Korean teacher an email earlier this week and she gave me some more encouragement to keep learning. I’m trying to take a different approach this time by just memorizing a LOT of words. When I read lyric videos and posts on the internet, I actually know a majority of the grammar but I just don’t know what the word means. In the past few days, I’ve just been writing down of useful words I should probably already know (느끼다, 살며시, 감추다, 왠지, 자꾸, 영원히, etc.) and memorizing them when I have time. My want to learn Korean has always swung from “pretty motivated” to “this isn’t going to happen is it,” but I don’t think it’s going to waver as much anymore. It’s too relevant in my life (kpop, variety shows, Starcraft), and I really prove to my family when we do eventually go to Korea that it hasn’t been a waste choosing this in Mandarin. Just you wait and see...

I am such a Buddy now it actually keeps me from falling asleep at night. Their music is amazing, their personalities are A+++, and there’s so much content for me to consume (uhg f(x)). As cheesy as it sounds, I’ve learned A LOT of Korean from just watching their variety shows and memorizing their songs. In my short time as a kpop fan, it seems like f(x) is the group that hooked me into this and GFriend is the group that’ll make me stay. On a side note, they’re all so tall (like 은하 is the shortest and she’s 5′4″ and 소원 is a giant [5′8″, really? :( ] ), and that means I have to compensate harder in terms of intelligence and humor because I don’t have height going for me T_T.

I can’t bring myself to follow through with going to KCON. Compared to every KCON LA/NY in the past few years, this lineup is just awful (the most popular group is GOT7 and their music is just x_x). I don’t think I can throw money at this when I have zero interest in the lineup, even if it’s for my younger cousin. At least I still have my labor day weekend trip to socal to look forward.

KCON LA 2017 fanaccount!!

part 1: Seventeen-teen-teen (I got to hi-touch them!!!) and a bit of VIXX~ 

Oh my goddd it's past 2 am as I'm writing this and I'm really worn out + still going to the convention tomorrow (Astroooo) but I wanna write this up before I go to sleep and forget 😂😂😂

First a bit about day 1, my early morning flight got delayed so I was like 😱 bad omens but the convention check-in line was amazingly smooth this year, I was prepared to wait hours in the hot sun from what I'd read online about previous years???? That didn't happen so 👍🏽

I was praying to get a Seventeen or GOT7 hi-touch with my ticket (to be clear, I only wanted GOT7 to trade for Seventeen 😉) but I got SF9 instead. Which is fine, I would've been happy to do SF9's hi-touch if I hadn't gotten Seventeen. I spent most of Friday in the trading area desperately looking for a Seventeen hi-touch, and was almost resigned to my fate/actually bought an Astro hi-touch because I thought I wouldn't get Seventeen. But one popped up at the last minute!!! I was expecting to be asked to pay $400+ and I love Seventeen but I'm not willing to spend that much money just for a hi-touch, but the seller was really kind so it worked out!!! 

I don't think I really did much else Friday, just walked around looking at merch and wondering whether to buy or not 😂 I filmed myself saying random stuff about the convention to my sister! She's at school so she couldn't come with me 😓

Saturday morning I woke up and had a few minutes of panic because HOLY CRAP I'M SEEING SVT TODAY. I GET TO TOUCH SVT TODAY. It was totally unreal and I wasn't even at the event or even the convention yet, I was literally in my bed 😂 I couldn't believe it was really happening!

I felt really bad because I sold the two Seventeen audiences I got on Friday as contingency, and I know my fellow Carats really wanted that hi-touch 😭 I'm sorry Carats!!! Next time!!!

I went to the Carat fan meeting event for a bit, it was pretty cute! I've never seen so many Carats in my life before 😂 so many of them came with their parents too~

Around noon or so I was just sitting outside the expo hall and I noticed people were starting to line up, so I went over and asked what was going on. Supposedly ~some idols~ were gonna come through, maybe VIXX! So I stuck around - I wasn't planning to go to VIXX's fan engagement because it was right before Seventeen's, and I needed to line up for a good view for Seventeen 😂 

I want to say it was anticlimactic, but it kinda wasn't? Sure, I was waiting there for a while, and I'm short so it was hard to see what was going on. And when they actually came through, they walked so fast I didn't have time to react! I wanted to shout Hakyeon's name but it all happened so fast that I couldn't get the words out 😂

But I did see them in real life! I was literally like, 5 feet away from them?? Hyuk was first and I actually wasn't sure if it was him for a second, either I've been out of VIXX for too long or he looks different in real life? Probably at least a bit the latter, haha. Not in a bad way tho! His face just looks softer in real life. Also, he's really tall! But at the same time, not as tall as I expected? Like, it felt like I was expecting all of them to be almost larger than life. It was really amazing seeing them in real life and just having that world-changing reality check that yeah, these are real, living, breathing humans who just happen to be celebrities. They looked so....normal, in a way? Like I see them and I realize that in some other universe where they're not idols, they're just regular people I might've known. Idk if this is making any sense, haha. Of course I've been aware of the fact that I shouldn't put idols on a pedestal - VIXX themselves have definitely taught me some lessons about how to deal with it when idols that I love do problematic things - but it's one thing to accept intellectually that idols aren't perfect, and another to actually have them in front of you without any of the usual digital barriers, just casually walking by like any other stranger you pass by on the street every day. So yeah, overall it was pretty amazing to see them, really refreshing in a way, even if it was only for a few minutes, if that. 

Mm anyway, Hongbin looked as pretty as ever and Wonshik was really charismatic (although I wish he had smiled). I remember while I was doing my research for KCON tips and tricks, someone said Jaehwan looks like a doll in real life? Whoever that was, you're totally right. Can confirm. I was a bit surprised honestly, I never thought of him as a top visual in VIXX but he's astoundingly pretty. Taekwoon.....lmao I'm so sorry, I literally don't recall seeing Taekwoon 😂 I must've been distracted 😕

Overall I was pretty pleased with my luck XD I totally forgot that they were coming to the expo hall at all and I'm glad I was there just in time. Most importantly, I was really glad I'd seen VIXX first, because I felt a lot more prepared for Seventeen after that 😂

Also Kevin Woo (U-KISS' Kevin) walked past me on his way to a panel, so that was kinda cool. 

It was still more than two hours until Seventeen's engagement, but I saw one of my twitter mutuals said they were already lining up for it??? So I hurried over and got in line. The fan engagements are all standing, no seats for some reason, so I really wanted a good view 😂 I talked to people in line, and made a new friend! That was actually one of my biggest fears about KCON - I'm really shy about talking to people, and I also kind of feel out of place among KCON fans. That's still kinda true, but at least I made one friend 😄

I was so nervous while I was in line, and I don't think I stopped being nervous until Seventeen had come in and were on stage, tbh. Seeing them in front of me was so calming ❤️ It was so nice being surrounded by so many Carats tho! On the screen in the hall they were playing MVs of the artists in the lineup and everyone was cheering and singing along for Don't Wanna Cry. 

I recorded the whole fan engagement session including Seventeen walking in and I can upload that later, so I'll just toss out the things that stuck in my memory:

-I was WHOLLY unprepared for Jun to walk out first?????? He looks like a goddamn elf in real life, he's so beautiful. I'll still grumble about his hair being blond and grumble a bit louder about how he should eat more and fill out those cheeks again, but he's so beautiful. Similar to Hyuk, not as tall as I expected (also, I think he just has lousy posture). 

-Dino????? Is so tol???? But also so smol?????? Also I'm sorry, this is going to sound REALLY weird, but his head is kinda big proportional to his body? 😂😂😂😂😂 he's still a cutie tho. 

-Coups was so excited and happy, he was smiling and waving with both hands and I swooned. His black hair is gorgeous and I feel so blessed. 

-Jeonghan had glasses!! I swooned again. 

-Seungkwan is ADORABLE. I think up until he came out I'd just been cheering, not yelling members' names, but when he came out I just suddenly found myself screaming his name lmao. I love him ❤️

-I'm not a makeup expert by any means so I could be wrong, but they all seemed to have pretty heavy makeup on? Not a bad thing at all!!! Just a comment. It made all of them look really gorgeous. Especially Woozi, his skin looked so pristine and soft. 

-I kept waiting for Hoshi but he never came 😔 I hope he's resting well and that he isn't too sick!!!

It's getting a bit late haha so I'll skip the actual session for now and talk about the hi-touch, since I don't have a video for that! They made us put our phones away, although one of the girls with me just left her phone recording in her pocket 😮 tips for next time!!

So my plan was to alternate saying 수고했어요 (you've worked hard) and 건강하세요 (be healthy) because I knew I wouldn't have time to say both to each member, and they were all close together so I hope they each heard both phrases 😅 and I was planning to speak English to Joshua and say "take care of your health", and Mandarin - 您辛苦了 (you've worked hard) and 祝您身体健康 (be healthy) - to Jun and Minghao. I really wanted to say something meaningful in the short time I had! I didn't want to say something as trite as "saranghaeyo" or anything. 

Actually my rehearsed lines went pretty well, I should really give myself more credit for that. I couldn't really tell if they were more happy to hear my message than normal - of course they're always happy to meet their fans, but I couldn't tell if they were more happy than that to hear their native languages, ya know? I hope they appreciated it though 😓 ironically I actually stumbled on the English - I don't remember why, maybe I looked at Jisoo's face or something haha, but I suddenly got really shy and instead said "thank you for coming" while not looking him in the eye. He thanked me though, and I could hear the smile in his voice 😌

I'm really mad at myself about the eye contact thing though! I keep feeling bad about not looking some members in the eye; I hope they know it's out of shyness and not because I love them any less! Honestly I have this problem in real life too, my eyes will just wander during conversations 😒 I need to fix this (and not just for if I ever meet Seventeen again 😂)

Individual impressions:

-Woozi, oh, Woozi, my poor Jihoonie. He seemed super exhausted. I don't want to cause any trouble but I think Carats understand - he seemed really happy to see his fans, but at the same time very tired. His smile seemed like one of those polite smiles, but like I said, I totally understand. His lil dimples were really cute too! Also, he has a really manly vibe? LOL idk he’s so smol but also surprisingly manly????

-Seokmin, my sunshine, I think I might've talked over him by accident?????? Lmaooo I have no idea, it happened really quickly. As I was moving from Jihoon to Seokmin I think Seokmin was saying something to me, probably just hello, but I couldn't hear and by the time I realized, I was already opening my mouth to talk. I can't really remember much about his face or expression or anything but I remember getting the vibe that he was a really sweet person. It was probably his smile 😍

-Joshua: see above. I'm sorry babe! I love you, I'm just shy!

-Seungkwan, my baby boo, I'm so sorry, I barely remember hi-touching him 😭😭😭 if I ever see you again Seungkwan, I'll give you lots of love!

-Jeonghan, my angel, I think I was also too shy to look at him? I don't remember his face 😂😂😂 I love you Jeonghan! 😭

-Vernon, oh my god, Hansol, my child. He said hello to me as I moved up to him with his like, classic crooked grin and I about died on the spot. His voice is so lovely, oh my god, and the way he was smiling with his eyebrow quirked I just can't! I didn't realize until way way later that he'd talked to me in Korean (or rather, the importance of that fact). I wonder if he thought I was Korean because he heard me speaking Korean to Jeonghan? I'm under no illusions here about my Korean ability lol so I'm not sure. Either way he seemed really excited to be hearing Korean spoken to him and my heart melted when I realized that. I had purposely decided that I was going to speak Korean to Hansol for this very reason - because I remember reading about how he's lived in Korea for so long and how he said before he identifies more with his Korean side. I figured he'd appreciate a message in Korean and I feel really proud that I was right. 

-Mingyu, my darling, I think I was still freaking out from talking to Hansol lmao. I love Mingyu more than....a lot of things but he didn't make much of an impression on me? Like, he was exactly how I expected him to be, no more, no less - very tall, very beautiful, very excited. It's not a bad thing 😂😂😂 thank you for saving my heart, darling!

-Coups, my love, I feel bad that I couldn't show him more love with the time I had. I had another attack of shyness around him and didn't look him in the eye 😭 I tried to touch his hand a little longer to make up for it...also I'm SO regretful that I didn't look at his face more attentively because I know he was smiling, but I didn't even take the time to appreciate his dimples 😭😭😭

-Wonwoo, my precious, I'm sorry I also don't remember much of him. Whose idea was it to have hip hop unit line up together?????????? I, a lowly hip hop unit stan, am DECEASED. I was already so overwhelmed from the others that I didn't have the capacity to appreciate Wonwoo 😭😭😭

-Minghao, oh god, Minghao, my everything. I'm not gonna lie, he stole my heart today. Recently I had been feeling increasingly fond towards him for no particular reason, so I kinda saw it coming, but after the hi-touch I was just like, wow. My life has been changed. Right before the hi-touch started, as we were lining up, I was yelling Minghao's name trying to get him to notice me. No luck 😔 but I spoke Mandarin to him during the hi-touch, and he gave me this radiant smile and thanked me in Mandarin. Holy shit, his voice. I'm still getting shivers thinking about it now. I swear to god my heart wanted to fly out of my chest. In hindsight though, I think he seemed a bit tired, similar to Woozi? I'm not sure if it's just his smile lines but yeah, he seemed kind of tired. He was really gracious about the whole thing though. 

-Chan, what a smol, especially sandwiched between the two giants that are China line. LOL I mean he’s actually pretty tall too, he just gives off the vibe that makes me want to coddle him 😅 I hope he got to meet a lot of people who bias him! He deserves the world ❤️

-Jun, wow. I feel a little bad for reiterating that he's beautiful? The boy's talented too, make no mistake! Appreciate Wen Junhui 2kalways! But anyway he seemed a bit tired and withdrawn during the hi-touch, I felt a little twinge in my heart. I had a split second where I freaked out mentally over the Mandarin so I just ended up saying "you've worked hard" to him even though I'd already said it to Minghao. Actually I don't think I ended up saying anything about staying healthy to any of the members of performance unit who were present.....I feel like there's some kind of cosmic irony here. Anyway I hope Jun appreciated the Mandarin even though he didn't say anything! 😅

I really wanted Hoshi to come so I could tell him to get well soon, but of course I don't blame him. I hope he's back on his feet soon!

I was curious about Seventeen’s actual heights lmao but they were all kind of bending down/crouching to accommodate the fans! So sweet of them 😍 (but I still will never know how tall they really are.......hahaha)

God it's 4:40 already 😂😂😂 anyway! I'm gonna sleep now! I'll talk more about the concert later, but it was So Good oh my god. I've now adopted SF9 as my babies and reaffirmed my belief that Seventeen are gods 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Vernon and Seungkwan are the sweetest little things and Mingyu and Minghao are precious together. 

TL;DR: I went in to the hi-touch a Coups bias and I left a Minghao bias 😂😍😂😍😂
