BIPOC Ladies in Minnesota l here’s something to look into
ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- A Minnesota woman who grew up in East Africa is trying something new when it comes to mental health. She's found a unique way to help women clear their heads - and free their finances.
It was a rainy Saturday morning at Ainsworth Park in St. Louis Park, but women showed up - to walk.
Kimberly Steward, who lives in the city, is part of the walking club of women.
"We're all coming together with same or similar problems that I feel like we don't get to talk about on the daily," Steward said.
Steward is a busy mom who likes to make time for this walking club.
"It's very nice, very intimate, and it just gives us a chance to like let our hair down without the pressure of what it's like to be a woman and a mother and so many titles. We get to just walk and talk [laughs]!" she said.
And they talk about some really heavy stuff, as Yolanda Farris explained.
"A lot of us are struggling silently," Farris said.
Farris has walked quite a journey in life. She is in long-term recovery and coaches women in sobriety. She is also a newly-elected St. Louis Park Council member - a woman with a powerful story.
Tumblr media
It was Muna Ali's story that got the walking club started. The East Africa native recently left her job in finance to start the Minnesota BIPOC Women's Association, hosting programs like a weekly walk and talk about life and money. She explained why walking works wonders.
"You don't have to think about being perfect at it, it's just walking, one of the most mindful exercises that you can do to get our heart healthy," Ali said. "We are incredibly interested not only in the physical well-being of our participants, but their mental health."
She says another important factor is that women of color are freely bonding.
"A lot of our women, they feel alone, they feel isolated, and lot of them also don't realize that we share traumas, that we do come from a shared background. So it validates their hurt, validates how they have felt for many years. She says it's an activity of comfort. That's why everyone is smiling when they are walking. No one is frowning, I love that," Ali said.
Steward is smiling about the group, too.
Tumblr media
"They've shown me that I'm not alone and that there are other women going through either what I'm going through or something similar," Steward said.
"When I leave, I don't feel the same as I did when I got here," Yolanda said. "I am always focused on other people. When I come here, I get to focus on me and talk about me and how I feel, and so that's been beautiful."
"Walking with Confidence" will be going on the next two Saturday mornings at Ainsworth Park from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The BIPOC Women's Association has many other resources, with the goal to increase self-worth and net worth.
Please add any women only or women focused groups in other places in the notes or reblogs

This Black Woman Produced A Film That Is Nominated For Six Oscars
Tumblr media
Producer Kimberly Steward was among the several black stars who celebrated earning an Oscar nomination on Tuesday.
Steward, who was a producer for the film “Manchester By The Sea,” is only the second black woman producer to have her film be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture (second to the legendary Oprah Winfrey).
The industry newcomer has been garnering quite the buzz among film critics since the acclaimed Sundance premiere of the film, which has been nominated for six Academy Awards.
Steward spoke with the Huffington Post just hours after the Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday morning.
“This is exciting and surreal,” Steward said of her reaction to the news. “I’m just beyond belief.”
“Manchester By The Sea” follows a young man grappling with the idea of becoming his nephew’s guardian. After reading its script, Steward, who independently financed the $8 million movie, said she and production partner Lauren Beck were instantly attracted to the movie’s storyline.
“I really was able to identify with the film as an African-American woman because I saw my own extended family dynamics and have family members that have dealt with very tragic situations,” Steward said.
Steward, who said she looks up to fellow producers like Debra Martin Chase and Ava DuVernay, hopes that she too can service black communities with her work. DuVernay’s documentary “13th” was among a number of other black-led films to receive Oscar nods this year.
“It’s really important to represent who we are in front of the camera as well as behind the camera,” she said. “We’re amongst a really incredible group of filmmakers and films this year,” Steward said.

What if MMPR were to gain access to the Dairanger suits (Squadron Rangers)?
Tumblr media
Here’s how I’d envision it.
Part 1
- Jason Lee Scott has Tommy Oliver get into contact with the Zordon of the past before the Z-Wave happened in Power Rangers in Space. Zordon explains that the White Ranger and White Tiger Ranger powers were part of a set and it's possible to unlock the new powers along with the Thunder Zords.
- A woman arrives in Angel Grove from a portal while being chased by monsters. She reveals herself to be the Yellow Ranger and Trini from another universe: Trinity Trinidad. She warns of a deadly force headed to Earth who usurped Rita Repulsa's powers and killed off her teammates, the alternate reality versions of Jason, Zack Taylor, Billy Cranston, and Kimberly Ann Hart.
Tumblr media
- This pushes Jason and Tommy to get the ranger teams to train and achieve the same form as Rocky DeSantos did during the Beetleborgs crossover.
- Two sets of MMPR train. The OGs are the original MMPR with Trinidad replacing the late Trini Kwan. The other MMPR team were the replacements Rocky, Aisha Campbell, Adam Park, and Katherine Hillard. In Billy's place in the team was Justin Steward, the Blue Turbo Ranger.
- As expected, with two people occupying the same power set, their powers were halved. They needed to create a new set of powers for the Morphin Grid to give them full powers. Rocky was able to unlock Red Dragon Ranger, but the others were having troubles unlocking the Green Lion Ranger, Blue Unicorn Ranger, Yellow Griffin Ranger, and Pink Firebird Ranger.
- Jason gives Rocky a pep talk, saying that a team is only as good as its leader and he should have more faith in himself so that his team can have faith in him, reminding him that he's a pretty good guy who taught him how to do an arm bar back in the 1990s.
- Trinity then betrayed the MMPR, revealing herself to be the traitor to the original team in her universe while serving as Colonel Trinity (Gara) to Master Shadam of the Org Tribe, the Master Org of their dimension. Shadam killed the Master Org of their universe, stole the powers of Master Vile, and wields the wand of Rita Repulsa.
- They found this universe by tracing back Trinity's connection with the Morphin Grid to this alternate universe Earth. Trinity then ends up corrupting the OG MMPR with the influence of Shadam's mind control by tainting their Power Coins with Org Tribe energy.
- The powered-up OG Rangers make short work of their replacements before they end up reclaiming the other half of MMPR powers.
- Tommy Oliver attempts to save the day with the Master Morpher, morphin into his multiple forms to fight against Master Shadam. However, he is stabbed in the back by Major Pain (Zydos). The hypnotized MMPR then turn on the White Tiger Ranger.
- The MMPR know Tommy too well and the hypnotized Jason gets the upper hand, who them prompts his team to use the Power Blaster to un-morph him. He then steals the Master Morpher away from his rival and seemingly kills him.
Part 2
- The Replacement MMPR Team, with no Power Coins, regroup with an injured Tommy. They first contact Tanya Sloan and attempt to use the Zeo Ranger powers in order to deal with Master Shadam's Org Army. However, they start losing their Zeo crystal powers too because Master Shadam has started invading the Morphin Grid through the Master Morpher so that only the MMPR could use its infinite power.
- They then hear the OG MMPR are headed to the White House using the Megazord in order to destroy it, with them destroying property, tanks, police cars, and fighter jets along the way.
- Knowing the danger of having multiple ranger teams without access to the Grid, the team attempts to use the New Powers once more, with Tanya sharing her Zeo powers to Aisha to get aid her attempt at creating a new power never before seen on Earth until the Super Mega Force Rangers and Rocky accessed it.
- The injured Tommy gives Rocky a pep talk too, saying he's every bit a leader as Jason is, he should just have confidence in himself.
- The bad guys close in on the good guys inside the cave, with the Zeo Rangers and one Turbo Ranger barely holding it together because their powers are themselves starting to fade with Master Shadam's corruption of the grid. Another Shattered Grid event might happen. Inspired by Jason and Tommy, Rocky transforms into the Red Dragon Ranger and saves the weakening Zeo team plus Justin.
- The rest of the rangers were also inspired by the heroism of Rocky, which resulted in them getting new morphers in the form of Aura Changers. They then change into the Thunder Power Rangers with free access to the Thunder Zords without morphing the Dino Mega Zords to turn into them.
- The TPR drive the monsters back and with Zordon's instructions, fly out with the Thunder Zords to stop the Dino Megazord from killing the president and destroying the White House. Unlike the earlier battle with the Dark Rangers, the veteran hypnotized MMPR were tough opponents against their replacements.
Tumblr media
Part 3
- The Thunder Power Rangers get help from the Yellow Zeo Ranger in her Yellow Zeo Zord. This allows Tommy to summon the White Tiger, which then merges with the Thunderzords to form Mega Tigerzord while the Red Dragon Thunderzord Robot Form attacks from the rear.
- After defeating the Dino Megazord, a showdown between the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the Thunder Power Rangers commence. Master Shadam has Major Pain morph into the MMPR Green Ranger to make it a 6-on-6 match, but because Master Shadam is aiding the MMPR, they were forced into a corner on top of Tommy still being injured.
- Just as the MMPR were about to use the Tower Formation Attack to take out the TPR, the Yellow Zeo Ranger attacks the alternate universe Trinity, saying "This is for the real Trini!" before she lost her connection to the Morphin Grid. This prompts Rocky to use that opening to summon the Power Cannon and do a beam struggle against the MMPR's Power Blaster that they win out because Trinity was injured. This finally de-morphs the whole MMPR team.
- The TPR then face off against the Org Tribe's Big Three... Master Shadam, Colonel Trinity (in her Org Tribe form), and Major Pain... with Master Shadam finally revealing his Master Org form.
- They struggle for a bit, with them running out of power because Master Shadam still has the Master Morpher and is still attempting to shatter the Morphin Grid, but then they get saved by the non-hypnotized MMPR, who offer their own remaining power to them to recharge their batteries.
- Defeating Master Shadam proves tricky because of his illusion abilities, but the inner martial artist abilities of the Thunder Power Rangers allow them to see through the lies and take the Master Morpher away from Shadam, which makes the Morphin Grid powers open up to them once more.
- The recharged TPR destroys Major Pain with another Team Cannon shot, does a team attack on Trinity to de-transform her back to human form, and then they're forced to finish off Shadam with a slash from the Thunder Megazord and a third blast from the Power Cannon.

Hi! I hope I don't bother you, but would you be so kind and share some historical middle grade fiction reading recommendations? I love reading those! Have a lovely day :)
this is absolutely not a bother, I love doing book recs and I love this genre! Some of my very favorites, in roughly chronological era by the period they’re focused on:
The Roman Mysteries series by Caroline Lawrence
I happen to love good detective stories, and this series includes that, along with so much else. During the reign of the Roman emperor Titus, Roman preteen and enterprising amateur sleuth Flavia and her three friends Nubia, Jonathan, and Lupus solve mysteries and experience historical events from the eruption of Vesuvius to the opening of the Colosseum. This series has really well-developed characters, both major and minor, and strikes a great balance between enjoyable fun and some pretty heavy dramatic storylines. There are also a lot of actual historical figures depicted, like Titus and Pliny the Elder.
Crispin: The Cross of Lead by the always-wonderful Avi
One of the comparatively few children’s historical novels I’ve read and enjoyed with a male protagonist! In medieval England, young peasant Crispin is forced to go on the run for his life after the steward of the estate he lives on declares him an outlaw for mysterious reasons. With the help of a traveling musician who he meets and befriends, he attempts to clear his name and discover why there’s a price on his head to begin with. Beautifully written and thrilling.
Catherine Called Birdy by Karen Cushman
Also set in medieval England! This book is written in a diary format by the narrator, Catherine/Birdy, a young noble girl who records her daily life, her struggles with becoming a proper young lady, and her fears about her upcoming arranged marriage. The narrative voice is really unique, snappy and humorous and deeply engaging.
The Tudor Women series by Carolyn Meyer
This is a four-part series focusing on the childhood/adolescence through young adulthood of women in the English Tudor dynasty: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Queen Mary I, and Queen Elizabeth I. My personal favorites are/were the Anne and Mary books, but I think they’re all very worth reading. They’re quite well-written and the author has a real gift for characterization. These were my introduction to the wild world of the Tudors!
The Lady Grace Mysteries series by Patricia Finney
Another middle-grade historical detective series! (Technically, I think I’d consider both of the Tudor series middle-grade bridging to young adult, but I’m counting them both here). Lady Grace Cavendish is a bright, mischievous young maid of honor in the court of Queen Elizabeth I who solves mysteries, including plots against the queen. The world of the Tudor court is very well realized and a lot of the mysteries are very clever.
The Lacemaker and the Princess by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
Isabelle, the young daughter of a struggling family of lacemakers, visits Versailles to deliver lace and is stumbled across by Marie Antoinette, who selects her to be a playmate for her own daughter, Therese. As she travels between the world she once knew and the world of royalty, she has to decide who she is and where she belongs, as outside the palace the French Revolution is brewing. (Note: Marie Antoinette did actually bring ordinary children to play with her kids, but Isabelle is an invented character). I feel like this is a quite compassionate and nuanced take on the time period and the complicated friendship between Isabelle and Therese was very interesting.
A Drowned Maiden’s Hair by Laura Amy Schlitz
Maud, a difficult and awkward preteen orphan during the Victorian era, is finally adopted by a pair of spinster sisters who work as spiritualist mediums. At first, she is thrilled, but as she realizes the two are con artists who plan to use her in their rigged seances to scam grieving parents out of money, she has to decide whether this new family is worth having. I feel like this book really tapped into the spirit of Gothic novels for a middle-grade audience, it was really delightfully creepy as well as quite emotionally affecting.
Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan
Esperanza, a wealthy young Mexican girl, is left mourning and destitute after her father is murdered by bandits and her uncle forces her, her mother, and her grandmother off the family estate. Along with a family who formerly worked as servants on the estate, her family immigrates to America as migrant agricultural laborers in California during the Great Depression. Esperanza has to adjust to her difficult new life and find strength and hope where she can. This book is very captivating but is also absolutely beautifully written, very poetic. It also provides a very important look at a demographic of people who are not as frequently talked about when we discuss the period of the Great Depression.
Breaking Stalin’s Nose by Eugene Yelchin
Set in the Soviet Union during the Stalinist-era purges. Nine-year-old Sasha is an ardent admirer of Stalin and thrilled that he’s about to become a Young Pioneer--until his life is turned upside down when his father is accused of crimes against the state and arrested. As he struggles to make sense of these events, Sasha accidentally damages a bust of Stalin at his school and tries to cover it up with the help of other children of “enemies of the state”, who are outcasts at the school, as Sasha has now become. This is a really thoughtful book that combines acerbic, surrealist humor with deep compassion, and it’s a great look at a really horrible period in history that isn’t talked about much in the United States, tailored very well for the developmental level of middle-grade readers. Also, Sasha’s father is an NKVD officer who is later denounced and purged himself, which was a pretty common scenario at this time, and I appreciate the author’s choice to show how the lines between victims and perpetrators weren’t always very clear.
Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson
This is a coming-of-age story about Louise, a tomboyish teenager living in a fishing village on a remote island on the Chesapeake Bay during World War Two. This is hands-down my favorite children’s novel (I think it bridges middle-grade and YA) and one of my favorite books after. It is an incredibly poetic and poignant story, both uplifting and heartwrenching, about a girl struggling to discover her own identity and carve out a place in the world, as well as a really captivating portrayal of an insular community that is both comforting and crushing.
In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson by Bette Bao Lord
Nine-year-old Shirley Wong immigrates from China to Brooklyn in 1947 along with her parents. She struggles at first to fit in with her classmates and neighbors and misses her large extended family back in China, but she eventually finds ways to make friends and thrive in America while being true to herself. Also, she falls in love with baseball! This book is partially based on the author’s experience as a young Chinese immigrant. The way that Shirley navigates a very foreign and confusing world is depicted in a funny, poignant and accessible way and the clever, scrappy Shirley is a vividly written character who definitely goes against common stereotypes about Asian American girls.
Penny from Heaven by Jennifer L. Holm
Eleven-year-old Penny feels caught in between the two sides of her family--her mainstream 1950s Anglo-American mother and grandparents, who she lives with, and her father’s relatives: a large, loud, very Italian, very Catholic immigrant family. As she grows up, she begins to uncover the family secrets that contribute to the tension between the two sides of her family, including uncovering the story of her father’s death when she was a baby. This is a really beautiful, moving story about love, trauma, and the things that families often find too painful to talk about, and it’s also a really vivid picture of 1950s Americana as a whole and Italian-American families in particular. Also, Penny is partially based on the author’s mother as a child and her own family history which I thought was sweet and pretty compelling.

People say this orchestration is the First National Tour one but it really isn’t, it sounds much more like the LA orchestrations. Perfect quality, includes every musical interlude, underscore, song, etc.
Audio Wants: Audio of the current run of Cats in Mexico, any production of Cabaret. Anything with Wicked, Cats México or Argentina, Dear Evan Hansen, Hadestown, Once on this Island, The Wizard of Oz, and anything I don’t have!

Kimberly Steward up for Oscar gold with ‘Manchester’
Bam! Producer/financer Kimberly Steward up for Oscar! #ManchesterByTheSea #film
Posted by Larry Gleeson
By Kenya Vaughn
