News : King Constantine II of Greece passed away on January 10th 2023, after suffering from a stroke.

He will be buried as a private citizen at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens on January 16th 2023 -January 12th 2023.

It’s fine, you weren’t rude or anything! :) This was about William not going to Constantine’s funeral in case people aren’t sure. My view is people can absolutely be disappointed. Every day I don’t see Kate I’m disappointed because I like to see her out and about. Every opportunity to see royals mingle I also enjoy so I totally get your feeling it was a wasted opportunity! And I also would completely understand if Anne Marie or the Greeks wanted to be pissed off with him. It’s their family and if they feel a certain way, they are entitled to. But there is a line for me personally and that’s when people were saying he was wrong not to go. That is different from being disappointed he didn’t go. I don’t think that specific line of argument is fair: 1) We’re not the family so we don’t have that claim of ownership (and it didn’t go well the last time the public felt they had a say in royal grief…). We don’t actually know how close William was to Constantine anyway! 2) Constantine wasn’t a Greek representative anymore and hadn’t been since before William was born so it won’t piss off the Greek state that he didn’t go which would have been an issue that concerns us. And 3) as far as I can tell it wasn’t an official engagement for Anne so he wasn’t slacking off work either. So I don’t see how we can say he’s wrong for not attending an unofficial event for a man who happened to be his godfather - Constantijn from the Netherlands missed it and he was a godson too! That’s what I’m trying to get at basically. It’s not that no one is allowed to be angry he didn’t go or that I’m a cold bitch who is gleefully celebrating him not going to the funeral. It’s just to me royals are our employees and not our family. So the decision to be mad is only something that the family can decide, and it’s not my place to say it’s wrong.

The Greek media continue to insist on the fact that William and Catherine (+Edward) will join Anne for King Constantine II's funeral tomorrow despite royal reporters only confirmed Anne's attendance. According to this article, BP and KP won't confirm William and Catherine's attendance because they would attend the funeral in private capacity and not officially...

King Juan Carlos plans to travel to Athens in the coming days to attend the funeral for his brother-in-law Constantine of Greece, which will also be attended by King Felipe VI, as well as the Infantas Elena and Cristina. Queen Sofía is in Greece, where she traveled since January 5 after attending the funeral of Benedict XVI in Rome, when she was warned of the worsening state of health of her little brother. King Constantine, who died on Tuesday night, will be buried, along with his parents, in the Tatoi royal cemetery after an unofficial funeral was held in the Orthodox cathedral of Athens, which is expected to be attended by representatives of the royal houses with which he the deceased was related.

King Constantine will be buried (alongside his parents in Tatoi Palace) as a private citizen, not state funeral or anything, but the Greek Government said that they will provide measures to guarantee the security of the royals attending. The Danish and Spanish are expected (Juan Carlos confirmed attendance but there is no date to the funeral). I'm pretty sure that te norwegians and dutch will attend too (and non- reigning houses).

It has been reported that the former King of Greece, Constantine II., is critically ill in hospital where he is being treated after suffering a stroke and chronic cardiovascular problems.

Queen Anne Marie, all five of their children and his sisters, Queen Sofia of Spain and Princess Irene, are reportedly with him.
