We Figured Out Where I Heard That Song in Theory of Love Episode 10

This post is mostly for the BL OG's who care about earworms.

Every time I've watched Theory of Love since 2019, I get caught up in the song Ching Ching is singing in her audition for their play in episode 10. Since we had @happypotato48 with us for the Theory of Love Romcom Rewatch project, I got him to help me figure out what song she's singing, and he revealed that it is รักไม่ต้องการเวลา by Klear.

Now that I finally knew what the damn song was, I surmised that it must have been from the first wave of BL, in likely Make It Right, but potentially Love Sick or SOTUS. I asked @troubled-mind, @negrowhat, @ctl-yuejie, @benkaben, @wanderlust-in-my-soul, @absolutebl, and @respectthepetty if they remembered it. ctl-yuejie suggested it must be from Make It Right based on its common appearance on OST playlists, and Josi mentioned tat NuNew had done a cover of it.

Foolishly, I presumed that the song must have been in Make It Right Season 2, so I started there. Let me tell you, after 8 years the overuse of the soundtrack in that season has not aged well at all, and the Book Frame storyline is carrying the show for at least six episodes.

However! Pluem found the song yesterday when I was chatting with him and @so-much-yet-to-learn about it! It is in Make It Right 1x08 at the 39:40 mark when Fuse and Tee are having an emotional conversation by the pool that ends in a series of romantic camera angle kisses.

I am so glad to have this mystery solved so that I can finally rest. Shout out to @lurkingshan, @twig-tea, @solitaryandwandering, and @neuroticbookworm who listened to me mention this repeatedly for over two weeks as I searched for this answer.

Glass onion spoilers

One thing I love about glass onion is that Helen’s nails are red when she’s herself and white as Andi. The first shot of Helen is her sitting in a bathrobe and towel, looking at the box from Miles. The second shot is a close up of her hand holding the address card with RED nails. The first shot of “Andi” is her hand on the door of the cab with WHITE nails.

One of the rules of a fair play mystery is that twins can’t be used unless we have reasonable evidence that they exist. It’s such a small thing but having very prominent shots of her hands with the two different nail colours totally creates a distinction that the woman in the bathrobe and the woman getting out of the car are two different people. Of course it is Helen in both shots, but it sets up the idea of two separate people. Obviously no one would infer twins from different nail polish, but I love that little clue 🥰

Ryan Johnson really did think of everything, huh?

ALSO! In the flashbacks at the glass onion bar, Andi has black nail polish. In the boardroom when she shuts down Miles’ klear idea and every scene thereafter, her nails are white. I saw a post where the colour white is a big symbol of Miles’ demise. All the way down to Andi’s nails when she starts standing up to him, and Helen’s nails as “Andi” taking Miles down

Bernice Elizabeth Kenstaites was born in Glasgow, Scotland on November 11, 1911 to Lithuanian parents. She immigrated to the USA in 1920, in 1930, she was living with cousins in Chicago and working as a laborer at a can factory.

In 1933, she married William Daunora, a Lithuanian immigrant and they had a son the next year. In 1940 Bernice was naturalized as a US citizen and they were living in Gary, Husband William was a crane operator at the steel works.

Evidently they were both working at the steel works when this picture was taken. William passed in 1960 and Bernice passed at the age of 82 on June 21, 1994, they are buried together at the Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, Indiana.

03.01.2024 // winter break

first "official" study day of 2025! switching between my KLEAR textbook and my routledge one, and working on the exercises in my new neuchturm notebook. i think the routledge textbook/workbook is doing a lot to improve my grammar, because it explains things that the KLEAR textbook assumes that you'll be picking up from a professor's lecture/explanations.

today's focus was sentence-final endings; the KLEAR textbook's section was on the assimilation of vowels when conjugating with the ~어요, which was very useful because i always forget the way assimilation rules play out. the routledge one was a focus on picking out stems in verbs and adjectives—something that's very easy for me—and the four "main" speech levels' sentence-final endings, which i am...far less practiced at, haha. (i default to the polite whenever i'm writing out responses to exercises unless otherwise indicated just because that's what the KLEAR textbook uses.)

i've also been really enjoying my newly-bought leuchturm notebook—it holds ink exactly as well as everyone claims, and i think it's very much worth the twenty-odd dollars i spent on it. i'm looking forward to using my fountain pen with it—my ballpoints are just about as wet, so i have high hopes!
