This is one of my absolute favorite g.o.d songs. I'm not alone in this as there was a study done in 2006 and The Road was ranked 59th out of 100 favorite songs by S. Koreans 13 or older. But oh my gosh, this song is incredible. Please, please take a listen to this.

Written and composed by JY Park (or JYPapi as I call him to differentiate him from his company because I'd rather call him that than call the company JYPE) and arranged by hitman Bang, this song is a legit masterpiece. And I wish I could say I was exaggerating. It's simple. It's poignant. It's honest.

"Why am I standing on this road Is this path really destined for me Would my dreams come true at the end of this road"

Like, there are few first gen groups I love more than g.o.d and even fewer first gen songs that I love more than this one, but don't let my obvious bias dissuade you from listening because of the fact that this song won three daesangs back in the day and seven first place wins on music shows. I cannot stress it enough that this is an amazing song.

Ballad? Yes. But it's a ballad with almost a hip-hop beat (definitely R&B though) underneath an orchestra, which includes a harp. This is emotional storytelling at its finest, offering comfort that we the listener are not alone in our uncertainty and desperation to know if we're making the right choices, or on the right road.

I discovered Colde 3 years ago with Photograph, a song by offonoff - his 2016 duo with 0Channel. As a soloist, he has released 4 albums: Wave in 2018 - it includes Move, the song that made me fall in love with him and his music - Love Part 1 in 2019 - the single WA-R-R gained some popularity last year when Hanni from k-pop group NewJeans covered the song on LeeMujin Service - idealism in 2021 - Wolf, a member of my top 3 songs from Colde is part of this album- and Love Part 2 in 2023 - an album that includes features with two k-pop idols, RM from BTS and Baekhyun from EXO. This year, he'll release his 5th full album, Blue Print, and in preparation, he has released the single album YIN. The album has 3 songs entirely in English: Toxic Love, I Color You, and Nirvana Blues. All three songs have his trademark sound and his characteristic warm tone, but it still feels very fresh and new, especially the upbeat single I Color You. I'm not a big fan of name-dropping in songs -there's a Smell Like Teen Spirit reference in Nirvana Blues- but this is a really solid work that only helps build hype for his upcoming full album.
