Paws and Claws Mysteries
Tumblr media
The Sugar Maple Inn in Wagtail, Virginia, is the country's premiere vacation hot spot for pet owners who can't bear to leave their furry friends behind. But this tourist town smells trouble when a killer goes on the prowl...
Holly Miller's life has gone to the dogs. She has no job, her boyfriend's former flame is sniffing around, and a scruffy but loveable Jack Russell Terrier is scattering crumbs all over her borrowed car. Just when she thought things couldn't get worse, a troubling phone call about her grandmother sends her rushing home to the family inn on Wagtail Mountain.
The staff - and a frisky Calico kitten named Twinkletoes - adopts Holly and her new dog on arrival. But someone in this friendly town is bad to the bone. One of the employees at the inn has been killed in a hit-and-run accident - which is looking anything but accidental. Now Holly and her furry companions will have to nose out the murderer before someone else gets muzzled.

any nonfic book recs by lesbian authors? want to get into more feminist readings. whatever ya got :)
Hi! we don’t actively track down every author’s sexuality when we purchase their books so I don’t want to 100% guarantee when it’s possible some of these folks may be bi or some other flavor of queer, but I do imagine a lot of our non-fiction that’s about lesbians is also by lesbians, here are a few;
The Lesbian South by Jamie Harker
Lesbian Love Story: A Memoir in Archives by Amelia Possanza
No Modernism Without Lesbians by Diana Souhami
Boots of Leather Slippers of Gold by Elizabeth Lapovsky Kennedy & Madeline D. Davis
Mouths of Rain: An Anthology of Black Lesbian Thought by Briona Simone Jones
A Burst of Light (and anything else really) by Audre Lorde
Moby Dyke by Krista Burton
Rust Belt Femme by Raechel Anne Jolie
We Walk Alone by Ann Aldrich
& tons more!

Hi! I'm making Christine's wishing dress cosplay and I was wondering if you might know what kind of fabric I could use if silk is not an opinion. Could strong 100% cotton work, thinking that the bodice needs some boning
As the dress require some yardage, I would probably first and foremost keep the fabric firm, but light. But maybe not quilting-cotton light, as it doesn't always drape well. Think taffeta, silk dupioni, cotton satin, or light brocades. These last couple of years there's been several on Spoonflower etc. who's made versions of the stripy/floral fabric for sale. The option there is usually cotton, and they look gorgeous.
The benefit of using natural fibres like silke, cotton, linen, wool etc. is that they breathe. But if this is out of your budget (as it was for me!) think of lining the bodice, and keep the lining in natural fibres like cotton or linen. It is SO much more comfortable to wear, especially if you will wear the costume for hours out and about rather than "just" a photoshoot.
Tumblr media
I think my main thing when being impressed with a replica is if the blue fabric somehow illude stripes and flower ranks, as the original fabric. The general pattern is depicted above.
It doesn't have to be an exact replica of the original fabric, but keeping in mind that the fabric has two main patterns going on, and to play with this in the construction is a cool feature. Maria Bjørnson plays around with the direction of the stripes in her design.
But there's also been stage-worn dresses in the US where they used various floral patterns without stripes, so this is also an option.
One was a type worn by Kathy Voytko in the 1990s, and also re-used by Rachel Zatcoff on Broadwa, as well as Krista Buccellato and Kaitlyn Davis in the Restaged US Tour (where @phantomphashion photographed it). The stripes you see are the velvet trims, the fabric itself is greyish pale blue in two nuances, with black (or navy) floral pattern:
Tumblr media
There's also the super-floral one in shades of blue, green and red that was worn by Teri Bibb in the 1990s:
Tumblr media
And also the blue-on-blue floral fabric first worn by Patti Cohenour in the original Broadway production, and later by Sara Jean Ford in the US Tour. This was photographed next to a dress made of the original stripy/floral fabric, which is very useful as a reference:
Tumblr media
So no, you don't have to buy silk, and you don't have to do stripes and flowers. But think of the drape and weight of the fabric - it should drape well, but also not be to heavy - and think of natural fibres if you will wear it for hours.
Happy hunting and happy sewing!

i have no context for ur ocs please introduce me to them!
Oh I have so many! Fasten your seatbelt because it's gonna be a very long long answer!
Rayman Krista: A limbless thingmajig who's created to defeat nightmares creatures and save the world like Rayman. She was from a different world named Silverleaf. I have a frigging long lore for her and the other characters she served as my icon for years. Davis: A human mage who created Krista. He was born and raised in Silverleaf and accidentally visited the Glade by a tome he came across and purchased. I did started writing a story about this before I lost interest and got into different fandoms. Ami: A fellow mage who's Davis' best friend and mother figure to Krista. She doesn't have a big role other than just supporting Davis and Krista at most. Atiena: Polokus' second wife after the Muse of Poets and protects the dreams of her husband and his creations. That essentially makes her a step mother to the first generations of Teensies and the Nymphs also Rayman's step grandmother. She plays an unfortunate role of how the First Nightmare outbreak happens resulting Rayman's birth and Krista's a month after.
Purpette: Globox and Uglette's daughter and one of their many many children. She doesn't have much of a big role other than supporting Rayman by winning races against Spyglass (Rayman 2/Revolution) Spyro Dusk: A Magic Crafter dragon who is pretty timid but a very dedicated learner of magic. She was named Dusk because her wings looked that of the sunset itself.

Hi!! I hope it's okay to ask this because I know you've answered it before but couldn't find the post anywhere -- could you tell me exactly when Julia Udine played Christine on the tour (what years?) I'm working on a project and just needed to fact check!
She played Christine in the tour from November 2013 (when it opened, as she was part of its original cast) to November 2014.
She was also supposed to have a short run in the tour from July to September 2015, and I believe she did do a few performances there, but had to drop out after sustaining an injury (they then had Kaitlyn Davis promoted to principal and brought back Grace Morgan to cover alongside the then-understudy, Krista Buccellato).

The Connection
Short film matinee curated by Betty Schiel (Women Film Fest Dortmund+Cologne) 02/10/2022, 3 PM Medienwerkstatt Wien Neubaugasse 40A 1070  Wien
We attempt a thought experiment: everything is connected to everything else in a living network in which we are interdependent. How would it be if, in this new attitude, we did not place man as an exceptional being at the center of being, but tried to adopt a more-than-human perspective? This radical shift in perspective is about searching for non-anthropocentric perspectives and thus revising the nature film as a whole. What stories can be told about it? What might the films look like and what formal-esthetic approaches can be helpful in the encounter with the Other?
The experimental short film seems particularly appropriate, as it literally unhinges the visual axes with immediate emotional access. The often witty deconstruction of the animal film as a genre is pursued by the filmmakers with all the means of art, for example through the dramaturgically pointed search for the optimal camera angle on the animal object of desire, which is then withheld from us. What do we see when we look at others? How do others look back. Plants, humans and other animals only have a chance to survive if resources are equally distributed among all beings. Showing and practicing this equality in artistic attitude inspires filmmakers to new approaches, of which we collect some exciting examples in this program.
Short film program
Muttitelefon Dagie Brundert, D 2022, 5 min Power poles without wires in a field, filmed in grainy Super8 esthetics. "These poles here - where are the lines, the wires, the connection? Look - they are gone. What's going on there? I'll take a closer look." Dagie Brundert makes contact with her fellow world, drawing lines of connection and using the mummy phone to bring human delusions of grandeur to the right level. "Be a transmission tower or just shut up for a while."
blueberries -cerne jagody Maja Nagel, Julius Günzel, D 2013, 15 min The old lady knows the best places to pick blueberries and she also knows how to preserve them well. She loves the old beech tree and the area, which she knows like the back of her hand. Open-cast lignite mining is inexorably devouring the forest of the Muskauer Heide and is approaching the village of Rohne, where the two Sorbian protagonists Edith and Christian Penk live. A tragic story from Lusatia.
How to Civilize a Waterfall Hanna Ljungh, S 2010, 4 min Hanna Ljungh goes on a direct confrontation course with untamable nature. Wordy and in rocker pose, she tries to persuade a waterfall to turn into a power plant; man's paradoxical relationship with nature as a comic and passionate performance. Since we cannot communicate with nature, Ljungh states, it easily becomes an alien and alienated other - with an ever - changing identity that is impossible to comprehend.
Fahrt ins Blaue Ingeborg Tölke, DDR 1965, 9 min "The dandelion, blooms, is fertilized and closes its flowers." Ingeborg Tölke explains the reproduction of flowers in her Super 8 film. In poetic macro and time-lapse shots, she captures pollination, fruiting and seed dispersal. A male narrator's voice explains the facts. Fahrt ins Blaue is the first GDR amateur film to celebrate success on the international stage, for example winning the silver medal at UNICA 1965 in Dubrovnik.
Exercises in Being Close to You: A Story for the Arctic Refuge Krista Davis, CA 2020, 15 min The National Arctic Refuge is sacred land for the First Nation indigenous community; it is also the place where 40,000 caribou calves are born each spring. Krista Davis joins a 10-day expedition to observe the migration of caribou and explore how to critically engage with your fellow world through the camera. In her ostensible animal film, she uses a variety of artistic means to unhinge the format.
Panda Moonwalk or Why Meng Meng Walks Backwards Kerstin Honeit, D 2018, 8' Sometimes it's two steps backward. The Berlin Zoo's multi-million dollar new animal investment does not play along. Between short film and performance in public space, Kerstin Honeit combines elements of found-footage film, reportage and music video with humorous, queer re-enactments of interview passages with passers-by to create a counter-narrative. The backward walking of the panda Meng Meng becomes an act of rebellion.
Whispering Pines 10, Chapter 1 Shana Moulton, USA 2018, 5 min Shana Moulton's alter ego Cynthia has been searching for the meaning of life and fulfillment for nearly twenty years in the video series Whispering Pines. She is helped by interactive home design, self-help guides, videos to follow, and beauty rituals. In the very first chapter, she finds spiritual liberation on the yoga mat through a blissful fusion with Mother Earth.
What a Wonderful World Anja Plaschg (Soap&Skin), Timo Schierhorn, D 2018, 2 min "I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom, for me and you And I think to myself What a wonderful world..." (Bob Thiele, 1967)
A beautiful day in the life of a turtle. She does what she enjoys. An animal music video with a single protagonist being handed treats. The camera stays at eye level with the heroine.
