Yesterday I found myself at the Fabricville by Namur metro so I went in to look at their yarn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bernat Forever Fleece, super bulky polyester. Looks a lot like roving but isn't. SO SOFT (and not in the horrible slimy way that acrylic yarns like Caron Simply Soft are). It looks like it would pill like crazy, so I would definitely want to make a small project with it before investing in more than one ball. If it doesn't pill and is relatively easy to work with, it could become one of my favourite yarns because it feels fantastic. The colours are right up my alley: dusty and warm. It would be nice if they had a wider variety of darker and lighter colours for colourwork. If I can't figure out how to make the Red Heart Boutique Chic work for my Hecla hat, I will try this; it seems much closer to what the pattern calls for. The Yarnspirations website is out of stock of half the colours, which makes me feel like I should invest in a bunch of this in case it gets discontinued. (ETA: Oh fuck, it has been discontinued! Damn, I should have bought a ball yesterday! Gonna have to go back and get one.)
Bernat Blanket, super bulky polyester chenille. Identical to the Red Heart Boutique Chic I'm trying to learn how to use right now, minus the pom-poms.
Lion Brand Feels Like Butta, worsted polyester chainette. Claims to a 4 weight, but looks more like a 3 to me. I don't know, I've never used a chainette yarn, so maybe they behave differently? Not as soft as the Forever Fleece. Feels kinda of light and insubstantial. Not sure what I would use it for. If I ever do a crochet project I would want to use a chainette yarn because I'm incapable of crocheting without splitting the yarn, but I just don't know what I would make with a yarn so soft and light.
Bernat Softee Cotton, DK cotton/acrylic. Now this is a nice yarn. The smooth feel and drape of cotton with the extra softness of acrylic. Probably crazy slippery; would definitely need bamboo needles. This would be perfect for garments. Wish they had more colours.
Patons Kroy, sock weight wool/nylon. Maybe a teensy tiny bit less scratchy than Madolaine Socquette, but I don't like the colours as much, except for that fun rainbow one. Significantly cheaper than Socquette, but that might be because it's not for sale at my local drugstore. I would definitely not be able to wear socks this wooly (I still feel like I'm covered in mosquito bites from sleeping in a super soft merino shirt last night), but my baby daddy might?
They also had nasty shit like Caron Simply Soft and Lion Brand Hometown, and omg they had Red Heart Super Saver BRUSHED, which just feels like the worst of all the worlds: made my teeth itch. Red Heart With Love feels cheap but usable for stuff that's not gonna touch your skin. Lion Brand Mandala comes in pretty colours but feels completely uninspiring. I'd get one if it was cheap and the colours went with my double knit blanket.
For needles they had the entire Knit Picks Rainbow Wood collection, which just feels like the stupidest colour scheme for a knitting needle: make sure you can't see your stitches clearly regardless of what colour yarn you're using! But they did have the super skinny fixed circulars, so that's good to know for next time I need wood needles smaller than the 3.5 in my Sunstruck set.
Also walking distance from Namur metro: Value Village (great for run of the mill acrylic worsted and super weird discontinued yarns like blanket chenille with faux fur pom-poms) and Walmart (Red Heart, Lion Brand, Bernat but no Forever Fleece at this location).

So it’s technically a sock! It’s a little big all over and I to(e)tally messed up the toe because I read the instructions wrong but!! Only up from here! The yarn is very cozy and feels awesome on my foot. Gonna cast on another sock and finish out this pair, then I’m going to make another pair a size down to try to get used to the vanilla sock pattern I have in my book. These colors are so nice!!

Toestep Tabis: Another Pair
As some of you know, I’m an aspiring pattern designer. My tabi socks pattern, the Toestep Tabis, is my most recently published design. And even though it was published back in 2022, I still continue to knit it! Doing so keeps me in touch with the pattern and allows me to tech edit if needed. I’ve updated it once since publishing; I do my best to fix errors quickly.  This time, I knit a pair for…

2023 Sock A Long for Crocheters and Knitters + Tutorial
2023 Sock A Long for Crocheters and Knitters + Tutorial
SIGN UP TO BEGIN   SOCK A LONG SIGN UP The Sock A Long for 23 is two new pairs of socks. One for knitters and the other for crocheters. For me, I am going to work along with the Yarnspirations Designer to make a pair.  I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit a pair of socks, so I figured, Yarnspirations is going to teach it; I’m going to play long as a new knitter to see how it can be done. I…

damn I finished knitting that pair of socks for my dad and they got 10% bigger after I washed them wtffff
At first I thought I'd get away with unravelling a few rounds off the toe, but now I'll most likely have to frog the entire thing bc they're 2-3 sizes too big🙃

Finally, I Finished The Socks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I finally finished the My Favorite Vanilla socks.
I used Patons Kroy Socks sock yarn in Blue Raspberry. I used size U.S. 2 (2.75 mm) to knit the socks. I modified the cuff to a knit two, purl two rib, other than that, I kept the pattern. I cast on 72 stitches to start, but I frogged the socks, and restarted with 64 stitches, and it just flew by.
The eye of partridge heel flap was a test of my patience. I really thought about modifying the heel, but I persevered, and did it. The extra gusset stitch was worth it, because I didn't have to guess the stitch to knit.
For me, the second sock went by faster. I know they look mismatched, but I don't care. I think it adds charm, adds character, and makes them unique. They'll be covered by my Docs in the winter.

I forgot to post my finished gloves! Selbu style mittens I cobbled together myself with leftover patons kroy socks yarn :-) These are made in linen and black colorways because I couldn't find white when I bought the yarn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hard to photograph but I managed to continue the palm pattern into the back of the thumb >:-) muahahaah.
Definitely feel like I've leveled up as a knitter because the combination of a knit gusset AND like 10 fucking stitches casted on over the loop (and then decreasing half of those later), one fucked up practice mitten I had to undo, combining these motifs in a way that fit my glove base (which I also had to change), plus figuring out how to chart all of it including 3 drafts. The pattern's under the cut but I've never made one before so I apologize if they don't made sense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first pattern is blurry because it's tiny in ms paint. Zoom in or open it there and turn on the grid. I'm like 90% certain that grey part in the middle where you decrease some of the stitches is supposed to go up to the top and there's Maybe a row missing Somewhere where the ribbing comes before a CC line but I can't fucking tell right now lmaoo. Have fun everyone and hope you enjoy.

day one: first lace sock (and second ever sock)!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've officially completed the ribbing, leg section, heel flap, and picked up the gussets :) my hands definitely hurt, but I'm gonna be taking breaks during the week anyways due to having classes.
im using handmade by Florence's "petal drop socks", which can be found here on Ravelry (it's a paid pattern but there is a free video tutorial here, though you may have trouble following along with the lace charts as they aren't fully in view). im using the pattern suggestion of US 1/2.25mm DPNs (i'm supposed to use circular needles but I prefer DPNs for smaller projects in the round).
the yarns im using are Patons Kroy Socks yarn in the color ways "Northern Lights" and "Sidewalk Color." pictures attached :)

both yarns were found at my local Joanns!

february wrap up!
spark cardigan, v neck sweater*, champagne cardigan, peggy sweater, 2x2 ribbed hat
*the pattern i'm using for this one unfortunately has a trash size range so the home sweater v neck has an Extremely similar look with a more inclusive size range
spark by andrea mowry
yarn: briggs and little regal in light brown heather, patons kroy sock in copper colors held double (colour combo blatantly copied from @birch.grove bc i fell in love with it)
she's done!! i'll make a full post with all my thoughts about this one once i get some pics wearing it
v neck sweater (with bonus luna for y'all 🐈‍⬛)
yarn: loops and threads heathered tweed in basil
this one is also done except i need to redo the neckline finishing bc when i folded it down i screwed up and it's slanted 😅
champagne cardigan by petiteknit
yarn: drops heart you 7 and drops kid-silk both in lemonade
using the pattern as a base but i'm knitting it off gauge and between sizes so. champagne-ish. i'm affectionately referring to this as my niall cardigan bc the goal is to wear it when i go see the show live on tour this summer. the colour is not my usual vibe but it fit my ✨️vision✨️ for tour.
peggy sweater by lene holme samsøe
yarn: briggs and little durasport in grey? idk the colourway name for this one
this one is on timeout bc i'm not certain i'm in love with how the texture looks in this single ply but this yarn was originally being used for a different sweater that i ended up frogging and i really just didn't want it hanging around anymore. just need a break from it to make a decision.
2x2 ribbed hat
yarn: craft smart neon acrylic in neon pink
current desk project in the most obnoxious colour i've ever knit with. not following a pattern for this one, just cast on 96 stitches and am going to knit 2x2 rib until i get to whatever length feels right and then figure out the decreases at that point.
