it's that time of year i watch fruits basket again and i love it so much. it was the first anime i got into without my sisters' influence so i hold it so dear to me 😭 it definitely became more of a comfort after i got into jjk bc we have:

nakamura yuuichi (gojo -> shigure)

uchida yuuma (megumi -> kyo)

shimazaki nobunaga (mahito -> yuki)

especially bc aya and shigure are exactly satosugu, more homoerotic.

crack headcanon based entirely on shared vas:

kyo is megumi and shigure is gojo, easy enough because their character arcs and entire personalities are like 80% identical

instead of turning evil, geto just becomes extremely obnoxious and starts making fetishwear after his hair turns white from all the Trauma of hidden inventory/premature death

when ayame’s antics become wayyy too much, yuki grows out his hair and becomes an utterly deranged cursed spirit hellbent on fucking with some rando named yuji

2001 kyo had 3 forms, but they weren’t human/cat/bakeneko, they were panda/gorilla/triceratops. megumi doesn’t realize he and panda are actually the same person, but panda definitely knows.

If anyone wanted to know the rundown of Rising Sun Spiritual Union ladies from chapter 8, here they are!

Junko (55) leader of the group. Office for healing, acupuncture, reiki, and cleansing. Its her apartment. Led the Kageyamas back - broad shoulders and long hair. Seasoning City’s Rising Sun Spiritual Union Rep Youko(68) motherly and round, conducted seances for grieving people. Had all boys and grandsons. good aim- the equipment was hers - flower bandana. small Himari (44) - spiritual counselor - thick glasses and very soft hands, farsighted. Dark moles under her eyes. Misaki (40) palm reader and tea reader. Weird sense of humor. - hit Sakurai Aya (51) spiritual historian and bookkeeper – made the stamp for the curse seal from wine cork -hit Tsuchiya Megumi and Kaoru (38/49) sisters who worked at a local shrine with Aya and stayed behind to tie up/detain the mall Claws Shiori (71) - brought up the rear. Marathon runner. Shoulder length salt and pepper hair in two braids Hana (29) - glasses, very short. Owner of many excellent sweaters. Mei (51)- bob haircut, half ponytail. Last week, in the middle of a pretty trash week in general we learned that Sakurai Atsushi, lead singer of legendary Japanese rock band Buck-Tick passed away on Saturday October 16th.

I'm not sure how much I've spoken about them on here.

I found them in late 1998. When I got that X/1999 fansub in Brooklyn where I first heard X-Japan, it sent me down a rabbit hole. I would find out the fandom and the country were reeling from the passing of X's guitarist hide earlier that year, in Spring, and I would find a stream of a tribute album. Hide tribute spirits.

This is where I first heard Buck-Tick. Their cover of "doubt" left me wanting more.

I would then learn that they had been around since 1983 (i was 3).

They evolved through many eras, from new wave to goth (?) to cyberpunk to rock'n'roll to a combination of all eras. Their influence can be felt even in modern visual kei. They are probably the band that made everyone in that scene wanna have at least one jazzy swing type song on their albums. Hell, Acchan's the reason Kyo is Kyo. Sakurai's look inspired many anime character designs (and I'm pretty sure Benimaru Nikaido from King of Fighters is based on 80s Buck-Tick....yes...they ALL had that hair).

In fact, a lot of their music was in anime (especially if said anime was about vampires. It always amused me that during the era where Acchan looked like a vampire, B-T were the band you called if you needed a theme song for your vampire anime.) Nightwalker, XXXHolic, Trinity Blood, and the very best one, the one that is actually scary, SHIKI!!

If you're not up on vis kei, you probably still have heard of him since he and Imai were in SCHWEIN with Raymond Watts from Pig and Sacha Konietzko from KMFDM.

He also had a band called The Mortal which did a pretty amazing Siouxsie cover.

I recommend Buck-Tick and the Mortal's entire catalog, most of which is on streaming now. I should make a bloody playlist.

R.I.P. Sakurai Atsushi

one of the greatest vocalists ever, and condolences to the band.

I cannot stress enough how awful I feel for those guys.

This band was together for THREE FUCKING DECADES. No lineup changes.

Atsushi and Imai had the kind of vocal interplay you only get if you're basically best friends.

It's a terrible loss.

in the 80s, for the album Seventh Heaven (an album I might actually like better than Sexual XXXX, I can't decide), B-T did videos for quite a few songs (they did PVs for pretty much every song on Sexual XXXX), and 3 of them feature Atsushi having nightmares about/seeing people with large fake paper mache heads. Then in the video for In Heaven they are playing a show for them.

They had something I think is crucial to every band now and forever: WEIRD ASS MUSIC VIDEOS.

Seimei sounds insanely arrogant. I mean, if the affair with Rika happened where Douman first got his immortality and he STILL had trust in Douman by the time Heian-Kyo happened in a singularity despite having Clairvoyance. And Douman was still ALIVE alive even through modern times. You'd think he'd have permanently killed him before then but I guess nah? Is there a way to reconcile all that because that sounds nuts (or maybe that's the point) or is that too in the realm of hypotheticals.

Sakurai tends to alter the originals for the Servants she creates only for two reasons.

To integrate their stories with pre-established Nasu lore (the oni stuff from Tsukihime; the Clock Tower presence in the lives of Holmes, Helena, Jekyll, and Cagliostro; the Mozarts being one of the original Western mages; the laundry list of Nasu lore elements in Dantès's life; Attila and the Olympias being integrated in the Sefar backstory)

To make them less shitty husbands (Kasugahime accompanying Koga Saburou to Yuimankoku, Ragnar's wife order being shuffled, Yoshinaka having a total personality makeover, Takeru not marrying Miyazu after Tachibana's death, Odysseus never giving Circe a chance)

Reason number 2 has me really curious particularly about Rika and Cagliostro's Lorenza. Neither of those two were ever mentioned despite acknowledgment of stories they're part of, so my guess is that maybe Rika doesn't exist in TM. I really hope to be proven wrong though. A Sakurai take on Rika sounds fascinating.
