Summary:
Inuyasha reveals something important to Sango and Miroku that shocks both. Kagome and Sango get some things off their chest.
Notes:
Hello all! Time for another couple of chapters. These next two sort of go together so I wanted to release them together. This is where the story starts getting thicc. So, I hope you enjoy.
For this chapter, there were a few songs that really inspired this chapter. First, is 'Walls (You Changed)' by Sick Puppies. I feel like this song is really important from Sango and Kagome's perspective, towards Inuyasha. And for those who were wondering about the music Inu is working on, this is one of the songs he ends up 'writing' in the story as he grows a little more. Second is 'Goodbye Apathy' by One Republic which is obviously chosen for Inuyasha in this moment. And the last is 'Torn' by Natalie Imbrugila which is also probably obviously chosen for Kagome.
Anyway... that's my music rant for now. Let me know if you like it.

Chapter 4: That Left Me On the Floor
Inuyasha was stunned into silence and could only watch Kagome’s shoulders tremble as she retreated towards the restroom, wheezing from the hole she’d punched straight through his chest. Each tear that had fallen onto her cheeks lashed his heart like a whip, drawing an answering warmth from his eyes. He had struggled to stay in place, compelled to drop to his knees and grovel on all fours, begging forgiveness. He knew that he had hurt her but…
You broke me.
Inuyasha bit back the whine that crawled its way up his throat and let his head fall into his hand, rubbing the gathered moisture from his eyes. Fuck , he hated seeing her cry. That was why he had always walked away; he’d never been able to take the shame that could—rightly—be placed at his feet for hurting her.
“Smooth,” Sango said from beside him.
Inuyasha scowled in her direction but didn’t respond; he had nothing to say in his defense.
Miroku sighed and pushed a hand through his dark hair. “Well, I guess that’s out of the question. It sucks, but I think we’ll have to find someone else.”
“No!” he growled, making their eyes widen. “It has to be her, no one else.”
Sango shook her head. “Inuyasha, I know you feel guilty for everything that happened but—”
“This isn’t about that!”
She raised a dubious brow.
He winced. “It isn’t just about that. It’s—fuck, you wouldn’t understand.”
“Try me,” she insisted.
Inuyasha shook his head.
“If you want any more of my help with Kagome, you’ll have to tell me why this is so important. Why does it have to be her? Why are you suddenly so eager to have her in your life?”
His ears lowered against his head; he couldn’t tell them. When Sango and Miroku understood what Kagome meant to him, the resulting guilt might bury him alive.
“Inuyasha?” Sango prompted again.
He hung his head, allowing a curtain of silver hair to hide his face as he whispered, “She’s my mate.”
He heard them suck in a sharp breath. Both had no doubt heard the same stories in school growing up. Great demons searching for their fated mate, the first glimpse of romance that their little minds were afforded. Inuyasha had been bored out of his skull just listening to them.
In the past, when the world was smaller, there was a reasonable assumption that this goal was attainable, that this mysterious person who made up your other half could be found, but on a planet of over seven billion beings, those odds slimmed considerably. A mate was someone to be treasured, and he had treated Kagome like she was… worthless .
Argh! The sound of that word gasping from between her trembling lips wouldn’t leave his ears. It twisted his heart, pumping an icy poison of regret through his veins.
“Wh-what? When?” Sango went silent for several seconds before gritting out through her teeth, “How long have you known?”
“From the beginning,” he replied, voice low. “From the first day I met her.”
“I knew it. I knew you were hiding something from me.” He heard Sango move but didn’t even brace as her fist connected with his cheek. “You ass!”
Inuyasha’s head whipped to the side, and he embraced the sting. He deserved her wrath on behalf of their friend, on behalf of fate, on behalf of everything he had scoffed in the face of, like a complete idiot. If it made him worthy of Kagome, he’d let Sango beat the hell out of him with a godsdamn smile.
“Nine years?!” Sango screeched. “Nine years and you… you were fuckin around, stickin your dick in anything that moved—”
“I didn’t actually do that.”
“What?!”
He shrugged. “I know it looked like I was always with a woman, but I just wanted it to seem that way. I didn’t actually sleep with any of them; I couldn’t. After being with Kagome, touching another woman felt,” he shuddered in disgust, “wrong.”
“Why?” Miroku asked. “Inuyasha that just sounds—”
“Cruel,” Sango interjected. “Why the hell would you do that to her?”
He shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “I was trying to push her away, to make her hate me.”
“Well, congratulations,” Miroku said with a hint of reproach in his tone. “I think you succeeded.”
Inuyasha’s head fell back, rubbing his hands between his spread legs while they jittered with tension. He was getting judgment from the pervert now?
“No doubt,” Sango agreed with a derisive snort. “You only made it worse by constantly falling into her bed, too.”
“I couldn’t help it!” He pushed a hand through his silver hair, scraping his claws against his scalp.
Her lip curled with disgust. “That’s pathetic.”
“You got me, Sango,” he snapped. “I’m a completely pathetic, sad sack, piece of shit. Happy now?”
“Don’t say any of that like it’s going to save you,” she said, placing an indignant hand on her hip. “You think just because you finally pulled your head out of your ass means you deserve a second chance?”
His shoulders slumped. “No.”
“You’re damn right! What you deserve is to watch her move on with her life…”
Inuyasha squeezed his eyes shut as a hopeless anguish ripped through him, but Sango continued without mercy.
“You deserve to watch her find a man who treats her with compassion and devotion, like she’s precious.”
Mine! His demon howled from the back of his mind until his temples throbbed.
Still, she didn’t relent. “You deserve to watch her build a happy life and at its end to be surrounded by a family who loves and treasures her.”
Inuyasha folded in on himself, a keening whine breaking past his lips when he could no longer contain his misery. Did he deserve to watch Kagome leave him behind forever? Probably… Was it something he feared with every fiber of his being? Absolutely…
Miroku cleared his throat, saving him from any further torment. “Sango, sweetheart.”
“What?” she snapped.
“I’m not entirely sure if this shame-fest is having the desired effect.”
She went quiet for a long moment, but Inuyasha didn’t raise his gaze from the floor, which he was hoping would open and swallow him whole. “What was the point of doing all that?”
“I told you,” he said again. “To push her away.”
“Yes,” she hissed. “But why the hell would you want to do that? Any other demon in your position would be over the moon and that should go double for half-demons. Most people don’t even think you have mates. So, why?”
Inuyasha took a deep breath before answering. Eventually he’d have to face the same question from Kagome, he better get damn good at answering it now. “I was a dumbass! I was young and stupid and arrogant and…scared,” he admitted.
“Scared? Of what?” Miroku asked.
“I wasn’t ready for something like that,” he said, looking down at his clasped hands. “I’m not good with women in general. How was I supposed to win this person who was meant to be it for me? And let’s be honest, she’s way outta my league; it didn’t seem like we would ever actually fit together. It felt like I was being set up for failure.” He scratched at the back of his head. “I resented it, being forced into this relationship that I didn’t even want or think myself capable of growing. It wasn’t supposed to be like that, anyway. We were just starting out; it was supposed to be all parties and music and groupies.”
“Sex, drugs and rock-n-roll,” Miroku said in a wistful tone.
Inuyasha lifted his hand, gesturing at him over the table. “Exactly!”
“Don’t lump me in with you,” he grumbled. “You took that entire thing to an extreme.”
“Exactly!” Sango mocked with a similar wave of her hand.
Inuyasha scowled. “You don’t get it. These instincts are overwhelming. It felt like I wasn’t in control of myself.”
“And copious amounts of alcohol and amphetamines made that better?” Sango asked in a disbelieving tone.
“Not exactly,” he replied, rubbing at the back of his neck. “When I was around her, it made it damn near impossible to control my impulses, but away from her… I was able to forget about it, I didn’t feel this constant need gnawing at me.”
“Yeah, but that wasn’t just your instincts or fate,” she explained. “It was you being infatuated. The mating bond doesn’t force you to want someone, it reveals who you’re most likely to be compatible with.”
“I get that now,” Inuyasha replied, his mounting frustration clear in his tone. “But back then it was just easier to blame it all on my demon side and push it away.”
She clicked her tongue. “You almost died, Inu. Was it really worth it?”
“How many times you want me to admit that I’m a dumbass?”
His ears twitched as Sango cursed. “You’ve made such a mess of this.”
“I know.”
“No, you don’t,” she replied. “Humans feel it too, you know? That connection, those bonds of fate. We may not be able to name it and maybe we don’t feel it with the same intensity, but it’s there. Imagine the pain, the betrayal she felt.”
“Please … stop,” he whispered, hiding his face in his hands. “I just want to fix it.”
“Sango,” Miroku interjected again.
She sighed. “Inuyasha, I don’t know if you can fix this. You threw a gift back in fate’s face; you’ll need a miracle.”
He finally worked up the courage to meet her eyes. “Then help me… please ,” he begged through clenched teeth. “I can’t do this by myself.”
She pursed her lips. “Fine, I’ll go talk to her, but you have to promise me that if I get her to come back out here, you’ll be on your best behavior.”
He nodded.
“And you swear that you’re taking this seriously?” she asked. “No more waffling back and forth, no more jumping into bed with her only to push her away?”
“Fuck no!” he snapped before deflating. “Look, I know what life is like without her and I don’t want to do it anymore. If Kagome’s really done with me, then I’ll accept that,” he admitted, “but if there’s even the smallest chance that I can win her back… I gotta take it, Sango.”
She took a deep breath and exhaled, her face softening just a fraction. “Fine, I’ll go talk to her, but I don’t think she’s any happier with me than she is with you.”
Miroku chose this moment to pipe up, “I could go if—”
“No,” Inuyasha and Sango cut him off at the same time.
“The last thing we need is your brand of charm,” she added before walking away, following Kagome’s path to the restrooms.
--------------------------------------------
Kagome avoided the curious gaze of the woman standing at the mirror as she stormed into the bathroom, feeling the warm burn of tears in her eyes. She slammed open the door of the nearest cubicle and immediately rested her back against it, sucking in a shuddering breath. What the hell?
It was difficult to even parse out how she was feeling. All of her emotions clambered on top of each other, fighting for dominance: betrayal, rejection, grief, compassion, and even still longing.
This was supposed to be a no pressure reconnection with a good friend. She had been excited to see Sango again, to heal her relationship with a woman who was once her sister in many ways. She had been prepared for it to be a little awkward and uncomfortable, but this had felt like an attack.
She had tried not to resent Sango when her partnership with The Strays had fallen out and her friend had gone silent for almost a year. Inuyasha was Sango’s oldest and best friend, they were more like family. It made sense that she stayed to help him recover, to help him find his way back to reality. It still felt like she was choosing Inuyasha over her, though. While Kagome logically understood, it didn’t negate the disappointment at being so easily forgotten.
When Sango had finally reached out, she had started by apologizing over and over again. It had been difficult to deny her. They had stayed in touch during the next five years by text and the frequent phone call, but this was the first time since severing her ties with the band that she was supposed to see Sango face to face. Just a quick little stop over on her way home from vacation.
Kagome had been eager; it had been ages since she had seen Sango’s smile and laugh or felt the strong reassurance of her embrace. She had missed it and, on her way here, she had allowed herself to feel the deep loss, that hole in her life that the absence of her friend had left. And yet, she couldn’t help but feel grateful that Inuyasha had her support during such a difficult time, even if Kagome felt guilty that she couldn’t provide it. He looked… good, and, if not content, more himself.
Seeing him after all this time was such a shock. Inuyasha had filled out, his tanned skin was packed with more muscle than she had seen in a while, still tall and lean but healthy. He was magnetic; she hadn’t been prepared to steel herself against his appeal. He had the same irreverent, bad-boy look that had drawn her in the beginning, with the piercings, tattoos, and black jeans that barely clung to his slim hips, torn by his fidgeting claws rather than designer labels.
It had been Inuyasha’s golden eyes that tugged at her heartstrings, though. They had been full of the same pain and remorse that was reflected at her each morning in the mirror, as if he had suffered every day of their separation with her. Those invisible ties that had grown slack between them had bound her once more and with it came that same fierce desire to hold him, soothe him, and to allow him to comfort her in turn, a yearning that she didn’t truly understand.
She heard the doorway to the bathroom swing open and closed. “Kagome?”
Sango’s voice made her flinch, and she bit her lip as another frustrated tear fell down her cheek.
“Kagome, I know you’re in here,” she said in a patient tone.
She grit her teeth and flicked the lock, flinging the door wide open. “Of course, I’m in here,” she hissed. “I have nowhere else to escape. You made sure of that, didn’t you?”
Sango rolled her dark brown eyes. “That’s a little dramatic, isn’t it? You can leave at any time.”
“Not without making a scene,” Kagome grumbled as she stomped towards the sinks and grabbed a paper towel from the dispenser. “I’ve already made a hysterical fool of myself once today,” she said while leaning forward to dab at her smeared mascara. “Not exactly eager for a repeat.”
Sango sighed and took a step towards her. “Look, I know it was a shock to see Inuyasha—”
“Don’t.” Kagome whipped around to glare at her. “Don’t you dare come in here and argue on his behalf.”
“I’m not,” her friend replied in a shaky voice. “I’m arguing on mine.”
Kagome swallowed hard as Sango took another step closer.
“I know that I’ve said this before,” she began while staring at her hands. “But I’m sorry, that I abandoned you.”
“Sango, we’ve talked about this,” she said in a dismissive tone. “What you should be apologizing for is bringing him here with no warning.”
“I know but this is the first time I’ve seen you in person since Inuyasha…” She hesitated. “overdosed.”
Kagome pursed her lips as another tear fell from her eye.
“I didn’t want to choose sides,” Sango continued. “But then you left, and I-I couldn’t leave.”
“And I couldn’t stay,” she whispered around the lump caught in her throat. “You weren’t there. You didn’t see him or have to use your hands to keep his heart pumping. For a moment, the whole world became gray and dull, like life itself wasn’t even worth living. I never want to feel like that again, especially for someone who doesn’t love me.”
Sango stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Kagome’s trembling shoulders. “I don’t blame you for leaving.”
“I don’t blame you for staying,” she replied through sniffles. “I’m glad Inuyasha had you around.”
“He’s doing a lot better, if you’re wondering.”
Kagome pulled back with a watery chuckle. “I thought you weren’t here to argue for him.”
“I’m not,” Sango replied with a shrug. “It’s just that, even though I’ve watched his health improve, he’s become quieter, more withdrawn than I’ve ever seen him. I just thought this would give him something to live for again. And I know if anyone can make it happen, you can.”
“I don’t know, Sango.”
“Just give him a shot,” she replied. “You don’t need to commit to anything now.”
“So what?” Kagome said with a sly grin. “Just take the music and run?”
“Why not? We already had plans today, didn’t we?”
“You don’t think that’s a little rude?”
“Serves him right for how he treated you.” Sango ducked around her and took a quick glance in the mirror, dabbing at the skin under her eyes.
Kagome did the same before she felt a nudge against her shoulder.  She met Sango’s reflected gaze.
“Remember that time in New York when we stole Inuyasha’s wallet and went to have brunch at the Ritz?”
She giggled. “How could I forget? Inuyasha was so mad, he made us pay for his meals for the rest of the trip.”
Sango rolled her eyes. “Sometimes, I wonder if he isn’t half-cat instead of dog. That asshole can sure hold onto a grudge.”
“Don’t ever let him hear you say that,” Kagome replied.
They shared a dubious look and melted into a fit of giggles until Sango’s gaze grew tender. She swiped a few strands of hair behind Kagome’s ear.
“See? There were some good times, too.”
“I know. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss it.”
Sango smiled and pulled her into another hug. “I’m really glad you came.
“Me too, the ambush notwithstanding.” Kagome paused and pulled back, loosely gripping her friends’ elbows. “Why didn’t you tell me he was coming?”
“I wanted to see you and I didn’t want you to cancel just because of him.”
She shook her head. “I wouldn’t have canceled. To be honest, I’ve been wanting to see all of you. I just didn’t expect him to be so—”
“Dickish?”
Kagome laughed. “No, it’s just… the way he was looking at me.”
“Like he’s head over heels?”
“Don’t say that,” she scoffed. “It’s not true.”
Sango’s gaze grew serious. “You have to know that he cares about you.”
“Not really, he never made a point of showing it,” she replied.
Her friend grabbed her by the shoulders. “I know he’s screwed up in the past, but Inuyasha’s changed, Kagome. More like the guy you fell in love with and less like the playboy rockstar.”
She looked down to study her nails and remained quiet.
“You do still love him, don’t you?” Sango asked.
Kagome hesitated to answer. She should hate him, everything she knew about being a strong independent woman told her so. Inuyasha had toyed with her affections, pulling her close only to push her away. He had used her, satisfied his lust within her body only to treat her with disdain. It was hurtful, but Sango wasn’t wrong. There were good times.
The moments when they were intimate seemed to exist in a universe of their own, outside of the way he treated her in the real world. Lost in each other, Inuyasha showed a new side of himself. He was attentive, generous, and focused solely on her pleasure before his. In those sweet hours, she had felt like all that mattered. It was only afterwards that he made her feel like a mistake and that contradiction had slowly chipped away at her self-esteem.
Things were different now, though. She wasn’t the same immature girl anymore. She owned her own business, managing several different well-known clients. She owned her own home, and had just paid off her modest sedan. She had even adopted a cat. By most people’s standards she was successful, but the wounds that she had incurred back then had left lasting scars.
Kagome didn’t open herself up to people anymore. She was friendly and polite, with many close acquaintances, but none that she considered actual friends other than Rin. She wasn’t sure she could count that one since technically she was family. Her love life was non-existent; she’d practically become a nun. No one had touched her intimately since… him .
Not that she hadn’t tried, but being in romantic situations with other men made her stomach turn. No one had touched her, held her, set her blood on fire the way that he did. It had been years since the first time they had connected in such a way, but she could still remember every detail. It was a well-trodden and comforting memory. From the first moment she was hooked; he became her drug, one that she had been in withdrawal from for the last six years.

I recently watched Don Bluth’s ‘Anastasia’ and while I know it’s not historically accurate or anything, the movie in itself is beautiful, and Ana x Dimitri somehow gave me a similar vibe to InuKag, only in reversed roles; because Ana is the one who’s looking for her place to belong and she so happens to be lost royalty too, enemies to friends to lovers, bickering a lot, etc lol just thought I’d share!
Oh, anon, I don't know if you noticed that from the everything about me, but I love musicals, animated movies, Fairy Tales... and Anastasia just happens to be one of my all time favorites.
Tumblr media
It's not only a beautiful movie, aesthetically speaking, but the plot is compelling, the characters are relatable, likeable and very well written, the romance makes you swoon.
Tumblr media
Anya and Dimitri definitely give me Inukag vibes. In fact... I wanted it to be a surprise, but fuck it: for years now I've been wanting to write an Inukag Anastasia AU. It's an idea I'm very passionate about, so maybe one day I'll pull it off.
Tumblr media
I totally see where you're coming from with the reversed roles concept and I totally agree. I'd just add that it works both ways: Inuyasha and Anya are both long lost nobles looking for a place to belong, but personality wise, I think he resembles Dimitri more, while Kagome and Anya share more similarities.
Tumblr media
Either way you interpret the characters, it doesn't change the fact that both relationships have the exact same pleasant dynamic. And that's the most important thing. Now, can I interest you in the Broadway adaptation if you haven't watched it yet?
Tumblr media
Lately I've been adopting quite the "anti live actions, sequels, spin-offs and other adaptations in general" instance, so for me to go out of my way to recommend one it means I really, really think it's worth it. If you're looking for something remotely (emphasis on remotely) more historically accurate than the original, you're probably gonna like it.
Tumblr media
The new characters fit perfectly well, the extra songs were as iconic as the original ones, the acting was on point, the performances were mind blowing. I don't think they could have come up with a better, brighter, more talented cast if they tried. The costumes were out of this world gorgeous. And sure, there were changes here and there, but the heart of the story was beating just as strong. You can tell they really put effort on making it justice.
And it felt magical.

More Than
so i was listening to the song More Than My Hometown by Morgan Wallen which is now my new obsession and i shit you not, the ending to this little drab popped into my brain so fast i knew i had to write it down. thus, this angsty little blurb was born.
now as i was writing, i realized that it was giving off sooo many One Last Ride vibes, written by the ever so talented @lemonlushff, that i decided to tweak this so it could tuck somewhere into the story itself as a sort of unofficially official glimpse of their breakup. i’m happy to report that it has Lemon’s official seal of approval and she loved it!
so now i’m gonna share it with all you fine folks and i hope you enjoy it too! :) and since it is in the OLR universe, there will be angst hahahaa.
so this is for you Lemon, my sweet and sour friend~ ❤️
one last thing--i highly recommend either having the song above playing while you read this, or at least listen to it beforehand. yes, it’s a country song, but it really is so good and the lyrics - which i’ve italicized and bolded - seem to reflect Inuyasha’s thoughts perfectly, which is why i thought it fit so well with OLR’s theme.
....shit okay one last last thing: i swear to fuck that the ending jumped out of a scene from a goddamn western harlequin romance novel with its level of cliche and drama and yes i am entirely proud of that fact ;ljadfilajflkahjsfue

She stood beside the bed, feeling empty, cold, hollow as she stared down at the pillows and blankets. It was still unmade, the sheets twisted, messy from her hasty retreat just that morning. Tears burned her eyes as she remembered why; the argument, the begging, the screaming. The heartbreak.
Her heart twinged and Kagome gasped, closing her eyes as she brought up a hand to cover her mouth. Was this…was this really it? Were they really going to leave things like this, unresolved and painful between them? God, she didn’t want to. She wanted to run outside, run through the night to his house, throw open the front door and beg him to—
Her bedroom door crashed open and Kagome gasped, whirling around with wide, liquid eyes, heart in her throat. Golden eyes, furious, hard, bore into her own and suddenly a heat suffused her body, chasing away the previous chill, and her stomach swooped as he shut the door and stalked toward her.
Her breath left her in a stuttered exhale, body trembling, coming alive from the heat in his gaze.
“Inuy—”
“Shut up,” he growled, grabbing her waist, hauling her in tight against him. His lips fell over hers, swallowing her gaps, the crush of his mouth hard, unforgiving, punishing.
Hands – frantic, desperate – removed clothing, touching, grabbing, caressing. They fell on the bed in tangle of limbs, skin against skin, heart against heart, flushed, needy, desperate. Growls, moans, whispered pleas echoed throughout the darkness of the room as they rocked together, moving in a dance as old as time. Fingers grasping sweat slicked skin, hearts thundering wildly and then perfectly syncing in a moment of euphoric completion. A stuttered breath, a gasp of a name; then silence.
Tears trekked down her flushed face as she was gathered against a hard chest, as familiar arms wrapped around her stated body and held her as she cried.
Girl, our mamas are best friends and so are we The whole town's rooting for us like the home team Most likely to settle down Plant a few roots real deep and let 'em grow
Kagome stood in front of the full-length mirror and ran a brush through her still damp hair, the yellow and blue sundress she wore complimenting the blue of her eyes. Blue eyes that were dull as they stared at her reflection, but didn’t really see it.
Which was just as well. She didn’t know why she picked this dress to wear, but had felt compelled to wear it anyway, even if looking at it made the vice on her heart tighten even more.
A gentle knock on her door startled her out of her thoughts and she blinked. Kagome turned her head in time to watch her mother crack open the door and poke her head inside, her smile kind, but her eyes sad. The older woman took in her daughter and her smile faded, but she didn’t comment as she stepped inside.
“Souta brought the car around,” she said softly. “And the keys are in it. Do you need help with your bags?”
“No,” Kagome answered and looked at her reflection again. “I packed most of them in the car last night. I just have my carry-on left.”
Mama nodded but said nothing as gazed at her daughter. Her heart ached at the pain she saw reflected in those dear features, in the eyes were that identical to her late husband’s—Kagome’s father.
“Kagome…” she started, but then sighed as those sad, sad eyes turned toward her once again. Mama shook her head. “Are you going to say goodbye?”
Kagome’s breath hitched. She didn’t need to ask who she was talking about. She swallowed past the lump in her throat and tried to ignore the butterflies that took flight in her belly.
“I…I’m going to try,” she whispered and god help her, but she couldn’t stop the tears from welling in her eyes. “But Mama, I don’t…he probably doesn’t want to see…”
Her throat tightened and she pressed her lips tightly together to stifle the sob that welled up. Immediately arms, warm and familiar, surrounded her. Kagome buried her face in her mother’s shoulder as the tears spilled from her eyes.
“I’ll talk to Izayoi,” Mama murmured and kissed her daughter’s head, her heart aching for her little girl as she felt her own eyes getting hot with the threat of tears. “If anyone can talk some sense into that boy, it’s his mother.”
Kagome sniffled and nodded, grateful that her mother would help her in this endeavor. It was unlikely he’d want to see her, but she had to at least try…
Closing her eyes as her mother rubbed her back and smoothed her hair, Kagome clung to her mother and let herself remember, the memories flashing before her mind’s eye and then fading away just as quickly, only to be replaced by another one, fresher, more precious, more painful than the one before.
But we can't stop this real world from spinnin' us Your bright lights called, I don't blame you for pickin' up Your big dream bags are all packed up and ready to go But I just need you to know
“Shhh! Quit laughing or they’ll hear us!”
Another badly stifled giggle echoed in the night as he drew her into the darkness of the trees, toward their secret spot they’d found years ago. One hand held a six pack while the other held tight to her hand, fingers laced, and he couldn’t stop the grin from spreading across his face before an exhilarated chuckle of his own burst from his lips.
Darkness gave way to the orange glow of a fire, the soft crackling of wood breaking the stillness of the night.
“Why is this so good?”
“Because we’re seventeen.”
“If we get caught, I’m blaming you.”
“Shut up and maybe we won’t be.”
“Hey, this was your idea—”
The rest of the words were stolen in a kiss, a hand coming up to cradle her jaw as a ragged sigh whispered against her lips. He tasted like beer and spearmint gum. She smiled. A strange combination, but it was him, and she loved it.

“You should have seen it, Inuyasha,” Kagome gushed a year later, sitting on her bed as she excitedly gushed about her time in LA to her best friend. “The sunset was absolutely gorgeous, like nothing you’ve ever seen before! God, I wish you were there with me. I just know you’d love it.”
Inuyasha smiled and reached forward to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. “I doubt I can love anything more than you.”
Blue eyes widened as a flush spread across her cheeks; her breath hitched, lips forming his name and eyes drifting closed as he leaned forward and took her mouth in a warm, lazy kiss.
--
“Would you ever wanna go?”
“Go where?” Fingers racked through dark hair and her sigh was blissful, a soft melody in his ears.
“California.”
“…You mean like…visit?”
“Well, maybe longer than a visit…like an extended trip, or something…lots of opportunities out that way…”
A brief pause before the fingers continued. “No. …Do you?”
“Mmm…dunno. Maybe after graduation? I had so much fun last time, but…”
“But what?”
A pause. Then, “Nothing. Kiss me.”
A husky chuckle before a pair of lips covered her own and any thoughts about the Golden State far, far from her mind as she returned his kiss.
That I love you more than a California sunset More than a beer when you ain't twenty-one yet More than a Sunday morning Lord Turnin' some poor lost souls 'round, Hallelujah bound
“Ewww, get that away from me!”
“C’mon Kagome, it’s just a worm! It ain’t gonna bite ya!”
“Eeee! Inuyasha, don’t you dare—!”
Laughter as he chased her around with a baited hook, the sound of water splashing as bare feet waded into the lake.
“Wait, I think I got something!”
The crank of a fishing rod as he reeled it in, the water splashing as whatever was caught struggled against the pull. Grunting, muttered curses, and soft giggling before with a splash the bass burst from the water, dangling from the hook.
“You got it!”
“Damn, ain’t nothing more satisfying than that feeling when the bass hits the hook!”
“I can think of one thing…”
Soft lips, warm and smiling, pressed against his own and Inuyasha abruptly decided that yeah, this was definitely better.
--
“California?”
“Yeah! Can’t you just imagine it, Inuyasha? The lights, the nightlife, the ocean, and no more snow! You always complain about the snow.”
“Yeah, but…Kagome, I don’t know…”
“Just think about it, okay? I’m not asking for you to decide right now. But this is something I’ve thought about for a while now, Inuyasha, and I just…I want to experience it with you. Please?”
A pause, and then heavy sigh. “Fine. I’ll think about it.”
A brilliant smile, soft lips pressing to his cheek in a warm kiss. “You know I love you, right?”
“…I know, Kagome. Me, too.”
--
“I can’t believe you’re reading that crap.”
“It’s not crap, it’s romantic. You could probably learn something or two from these books, you uncultured dog.”
“Uncultured? Really?”
“Besides, I like it when the guy gets the girl at the end. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.”
“I can make you feel all warm and fuzzy, too.”
Her gasp was cut off as lips pressed against her neck and hands slipped beneath her shirt to roam across soft skin. The book fell from her fingers to dive into silver hair, eyes closing as her head fell back with a breathy sigh.
--
“Yes.”
The blood was rushing so loudly in his ears he barely heard her and the thundering of his heart against his chest was so forceful, it was a wonder it didn’t leap out into her waiting hands.
“Y-yes?” he echoed, voice naught but a disbelieving rasp as he stared at her with wide, shocked - and cautiously hopeful - golden eyes.
A half-sob, half-laugh burst from her lips and her eyes were bright from more than just the unshed tears brimming the beautiful depths.  Lips trembled as she smiled, hand trembling even more as she held it out before her.
“Yes,” she whispered. “Yes, Inuyasha, I’ll marry you. I—”
What she felt next wasn’t the cool metal of his grandmother’s ring as it found a new home on her finger, but instead the warmth of her beloved’s hand as it wrapped around hers and yanked her forward into his arms. They tumbled to the ground, laughing, crying, exchanging endless kisses and promises of forever as the ring, forgotten on the ground but still nestled within the velvet box, glittered merrily in the warm glow of the fire.
Yeah, I love you more than the feeling when the bass hits a hook When the guy gets the girl at the end of the book But, baby, this might be the last time I get to lay you down 'Cause I can't love you more than my hometown
“Come with me.”
Silence; thick, stony. Cold.
Desperation made her voice high, the words falling from her lips fast. “Inuyasha, please, come back with me—we’d have such an amazing time together, learning, living and—you can enroll in my school, Inuyasha! It’s not too late, there are so many programs to choose from, and I just think you can do so much more with your life than—”
“Than what, Kagome?” The words were snapped, harsh, biting as he whirled around to peg her with a hard stare. “Than taking on the valued responsibility of the ranch that’s been in my family for fucking generations? Than building our fucking house? You know, the one we'll live in after we’re married? I can’t do that, Kagome. I won’t.”
“But that’s just it, Inuyasha, you have no room to grow here! You’re stifled by the responsibility you feel to take over the ranch when leaving could relieve you of that burden! The world is so big, Yash, and there’s so much more beyond this little town, so if you would just trust me—”
“You’re asking me to drop and leave everything I know behind, Kagome!” His voice was loud, thunderous in his anger, his frustration, his pain. “This my home, our home, and you just want me to leave like it don’t even matter! Like the fucking life I’m trying to build for us don’t even matter!”
“That’s why I’m asking you to come with me!” Tears, hot, salty ran unchecked down her face, blue eyes big and pleading and flashing with undisguised panic. “I want to be with you, Inuyasha, I do, but I need you to understand—!”
“Then be with me here, dammit!” A note of desperation, amber eyes pleading, frantic, angry.
A choked sob, a muffled whimper. “I can’t…”
An anguished sound, a shattered cry, and then a door slamming shut, loud, devastating, final.
--
The words slammed into him harder than any blow he’d ever received, the shock greater than hitting the unforgiving ground after falling off a horse, and the pain far, far worse than he ever could have imagined.
Fuck, it would have hurt less if she’d just outright slapped him in the face.
She wouldn’t look at him, her gaze focused on the ground, dark hair hiding her expression. He swallowed once, twice; his mouth felt like a desert, his tongue heavy, thick, useless. His throat worked but no sound came out. Ice replaced the blood in his veins, freezing his lungs, making it hard to breathe.
“Wh…what did you s…” He shook his head, swayed on his feet as he blinked hard. He couldn't have heard her right. She couldn't have just told him—
“…I cheated on you. Inuyasha, I—”
He didn’t hear the rest of what she said. His legs abruptly gave out and he stumbled back, sitting down hard onto the fallen log behind him. The log he’d proposed to her on. The log they’d kissed on—
He shook his head again, a frown pulling his brows down low over his eyes as he tried to register the words spilling from her mouth a mile a minute. Two days…two days ago. That—that didn’t make any sense. He couldn’t—he couldn’t smell anything, couldn’t detect any sort of incriminating evidence that suggested she’d been unfaithful.
Amber eyes lifted, flashing with tentative hope. She’d been drunk—she didn’t remember, so maybe if he told her—
The sight of his grandmother’s ring, nestled in the middle of her palm, might as well have been his heart because it sure as sure shit felt like she’d just ripped it out of his chest. His stomach clenched, the breath seized in his lungs, and a curious numbness spread throughout his entire body. The realization hit him even harder than the pain had, and that in and of itself would have brought him to his knees had he not already been sitting.
Honeyed eyes, agonized, pleading, lifted to her face. Again she would not meet his gaze, eyes closed against the tears that spilled down her cheeks. He suddenly tasted salt and with a start he realized he was crying too, the tears warm as they streaked down his pale face but he gave them no mind.
“K…Kagome…” It was the only thing he could get through a throat tight from anguish. A plea, a prayer, a question all in one as he stared at her, heedless of the tears that continued to fall.
Her eyes squeezed shut and she shook her head; a clenched sob broke from her lips as she reached forward, grabbed his hand, closed his fingers around the ring, giving it back, giving back his heart that she no longer wanted. Pain, sharp and intense, pierced through him and he gasped, unable to do a damned thing as she backed away from him, arms folded around herself.
“I’m sorry,” she rasped, shaking her head, over and over, backing away. “I just…I can’t…”
A sob, borne of a sorrow so deep, of regret and fear and pain so sharp it felt it in the very marrow of his bones, broke free of her lips right before she whirled around and dashed away, through the night, through the trees, away from the fire, away from him.
Inuyasha could do nothing but sit there, his rejected grandmother’s ring clutched in his fist and his vision blurry from hot tears as he watched her run. Curious, that instead of the crushing pain he expected to feel in his chest, there was a hollow ache that resonated, like an echo of a mournful howl for the one who had just run away with his heart.
What hurt more than the pain of watching her go, however, and more than the diamond cutting into his palm, was the jarring realization that the woman he loved more than his own life would rather fabricate a lie of infidelity than be with him.
And because he loved her more than his own happiness…he’d let her.
I ain't the runaway kind, I can't change that My heart's stuck in these streets like the train tracks City sky ain't the same black Ain't that a map dot shame, man, to think that
Sitting on his bed, freshly showered and donned in simple jeans and a t-shirt, Inuyasha’s head was bowed between his shoulders and his arms were propped on his knees. His hands, clenched into tight fists, gradually relaxed and a breath he hadn’t’ even realized he’d been holding rushed from his lungs, escaping his mouth in a harsh exhale that did absolutely nothing to absolve the torment wreaking his mind.
As the last vestiges of the memory faded away, far more painful than all the ones before, he opened his eyes and stared down at the hardwood floor, scuffed and scratched and worn. He frowned, his chest feeling tight, his stomach in knots, his muscles tensing and relaxing with a restless energy that was hard to ignore. He wanted to punch something, to run, to fight, fight for her to stay, fight for them.
But he remained where he was, hands flexing, jaw clenched, eyes shut tight against the pain that was determined to bring him to his knees. God, why, why did she have to—
Gentle rapping on the door before it was cracked open. He didn’t look up but he didn’t need to; he knew why she was here. The ache in his chest intensified, sharped, traveled up to knot in his throat and make it harder to breathe.
She didn’t say anything at first, simply stared. Then, “…She wants to see you.”
Inuyasha turned his head, looked out the window.
A pause. Then a sigh, resigned, sad. “Asako called. Before she showed up at the door, I mean. Asked me to talk to you. Said I would, but didn’t make any promises.” Pause. “You already know how I feel about her doing this, but…you should at least say goodbye. You’ll regret it if you don’t. You know you will.”
A tightening of his jaw and a deep furrowing of his brow was her response.
“…I’m sorry, my love.”
The door closed with a soft click.
A minute passed. Two. Three.
Inuyasha exploded to his feet, grabbed the lamp on the nightstand, and hurled it against the wall with a roar that was equal parts rage, frustration, and deep, intense anguish that reverberated throughout the entire house; echoing, thunderous, shattering.
Deafening silence followed his outburst; he sank to his knees and wept.
I love you more than a California sunset More than a beer when you ain't twenty-one yet More than a Sunday morning Lord Turnin' some poor lost souls around, Hallelujah bound Yeah, I love you more than the feeling when the bass hits a hook When the guy gets the girl at the end of the book But, baby, this might be the last time I get to lay you down Cause I can't love you more than my hometown
It was impossible not to hear it. As the color drained from Kagome’s face and her heart clenched in her chest, Izayoi stared at her with eyes hardened from the ache she was feeling for her son, the sorrow she felt at his heartbreak twisted into bitter, resentful anger at the woman standing before her.
Kagome closed her eyes, bit her lip to stifle the sob that welled in her throat, sucked in a shaky breath meant to harden her resolve. It didn’t and she fought not to fall apart on the front porch, locking knees that threatened to give out on her.
“Go,” Izayoi muttered in a voice like flint and ignored the younger woman’s flinch. “You’ve done enough damage here. And I’m not talking about whatever he just destroyed.”
Hot tears pricked the back of her eyes. Her throat tightened, preventing any words, protests, to spill from her mouth. She stared at the older woman with wide eyes, someone who she, for the longest time, had looked upon as a second mother, someone to confide in, to trust.
She found none of the warmth that she was used to seeing. No fondness, no compassion, no understanding. Coldness spread through Kagome’s veins, turning her blood to ice, knotting in her stomach, heavy, uncomfortable.
Izayoi stared back, cold, unforgiving, unregretful.
“I’m sorry,” Kagome whispered.
The older woman pressed her lips into a thin line and looked away, arms tight across her chest.
Rejected, heartbroken, Kagome turned, her feet feeling heavy as they carried her back to her car. The tears ran unchecked down her face now, streaming down pale cheeks. She tasted salt and she got in the vehicle, closed the door. Her body felt like it was on autopilot as she revved the engine and started down the long dirt driveway.
It wasn’t until she had gone halfway that she broke down, great, gasping sobs erupting from her throat. Her vision was blurry from the unending tears and her knuckles were white from gripping the steering wheel so hard. Without even realizing it her foot had slipped from the accelerator and she was merely coasting now, too distraught, too tormented to think about anything else but the pain ravaging her heart. Unbidden one last memory, the most recent, flashed before her mind’s eye, twisting the knife keeper, crushing her, killing her…
“Don’t do this.”
He froze at the softly uttered words, spoken in a tone so raw with pain that it trembled. He swallowed hard and turned his head just the slightest bit, but said nothing.
Silence. Thick, tense, deafening.
Then he tightened his jaw, hardened his eyes, and continued putting his boots on.
A choked sob, the rustle of cloth. “Inuyasha, please—”
“I’m sorry.”
He stood up from the side of the bed and refused to look at her as he collected his jacket, still sitting in a heap on the floor from where it was hastily thrown the night before.
A stuttered breath, followed by the salty scent of tears. His lips drew into a tight line and his hands fisted tightly at his sides as he forced himself to head toward the door. But, goddamn him, he paused right in front of it, hand on the knob, jaw clenched so hard it ached.
“Please,” she begged and the word was a raspy plea, vision blurry from tears. “If you would just—we can talk about this—”
“I love you, Kagome,” Inuyasha said and he heard her sharp intake of breath, but he didn’t turn around. He swallowed once, twice, and closed his eyes as he opened his mouth and forced the words past a throat tight with emotion.
“Inu—”
“But I can’t…love you more than this. I just…I can’t.”
Another sob, a hitched breath, and his chest ached. He bowed his head.
“See you around, Kagome,” he whispered and left, his footsteps fading down the hallway and down the stairs until the slam of the front door echoed in the dark house.
Kagome dropped her face into her hands and wept.
The front door burst open and Inuyasha was desperation personified as he rushed past his alarmed mother, sprinting as fast as he could toward the barn that held the horses. Not even a full minute later a white blur sped from the barn and bolted through the open gate of the pasture, following the car that was leaving with his love, his soul, his very heart.
Standing on the porch, Izayoi pressed a hand to her heart while the other covered her mouth, muffling the sob that burst from her lips as teary eyes watched her son chase after the woman who broke his heart.
'Cause I love you more than a California sunset I love you more in a twenty-dollar sundress Hate that loaded down car you got your keys in Girl, but I hate even more that you're leavin'
Urging his mount to go faster, harder, the thundering of her hooves against the ground rivaled that of the thundering of his heart in his chest. Hands gripping the coarse hair of her mane, Inuyasha grit his teeth against the harsh wind, his eyes wild, desperate and bright with unshed tears as he kicked the mare’s flanks to go faster, dammit, faster!
The distance between them was closing, the rumble of the engine, of gravel crunching beneath tires becoming louder until he was riding alongside her, along the fence that enclosed the front pasture. His hands fisted his mount’s mane in a while-knuckled grip as he leaned over her neck, legs tight to her sides.
He turned his head and wild, despairing golden eyes collided with wide, tear-filled blue.
Kagome’s heart lurched in her chest, making her gasp as goosebumps erupted on her skin. She sobbed, shaking her head, mouthing his name and forcing her eyes to look straight ahead. What—what was he doing?! Why?! God, he was making this even harder than it already was, taking her heart and stomping on it, cruel, cold, conniving.
But it made sense, didn’t it.
She had broken his heart, and now he was doing the same to her.
'Cause I love you more than the feeling when the bass hits a hook When the guy gets the girl at the end of the book But that ain't you and me so I guess I'll see you around 'Cause I can't love you more than my hometown
Inuyasha didn’t let up, not even when she looked away, gritting his teeth, kicking his mount to keep up when she accelerated. She was crying, and although he couldn’t hear her, he could see the way she shook, shoulders jerking, chest heaving, face wet from her tears and fuck she was wearing the sundress—
The end of the drive was in sight. Kagome slowed down, so did he, but she didn’t stop as she once again turned her head and caught his gaze. Inuyasha was already staring at her, heart in his eyes, a silent plea falling from his lips, willing her to hear….
“Don’t go.”
A sob, raw, choked, anguished.
“I’m sorry.”
Without even realizing, he let up on his mount, the mare slowing to a trot, a walk, and then stood still, recovering from the hard gallop. Golden eyes, awash with ears, watched the car reach the end of the drive and turn, driving away, going, going, getting smaller, fading.
Gone.
Something inside Inuyasha shattered and he didn’t think it could ever, ever be repaired.
Love you more than my hometown Love you more than my hometown Love you more, baby, love you more

By the way, if anyone wants to be tagged for this, I’d be more than happy to do it! This will also be posted on fanfiction.net and Ao3, in case you would rather follow it over there :)
29. “Uh … how long were you standing there?”
30. “Don’t judge me–you’re the one who sings Disney songs in the shower!”
Tumblr media
Inuyasha had meant to surprise her. It was a weird thing, probably, to want to surprise a girl by doing her fucking dishes, and perhaps he was a little too excited about that, too, because damn he fucking liked that girl way more than he should. He had come right after his last class, since he didn’t have basketball practice on Mondays, and Sango had opened the door at his first knock.
She had glared at him for a few moments, and he had simply waited. Sango wasn’t his biggest fan, but he didn’t blame her. Girl was extremely protective when it came to Kagome, and he would probably be the exact same, if he ever had the chance.
“If you hurt her,” Sango said, very matter-of-factly, as she stepped out of the way to let him in, “I’ll rip your heart out.”
“Keh. I’d like to see you try, slayer,” he answered, though if he hurt Kagome, he would probably let her.
She let out a dangerous laugh, but didn’t reply.
“I’m going to train. Dishes are in the sink.”
“Wait, where’s—”
The door slammed behind her, and he rolled his eyes. How dramatic could she be?
He dropped his bag on the ground and looked around. The place was very small, much like the one he shared with Miroku, and the setting was just as terrible. The living-room was ridiculously small, and he wasn’t even sure how he could fit in the kitchen. That wall, right by the sink, was stupidly placed, and from the look of it, the small room next to it was the bathroom.
Where he could hear water running.
Someone was taking a shower.
Shit.
So Kagome was in there, water running alongside her jaw, down her neck, her back, her legs, over her thighs, on her br—
Yup, nah, not going there. He swallowed with some difficulty and shook his head, trying to push the images out of his head. Fuck. Couldn’t Sango have warned him? At least he couldn’t smell her distinctly, with the shampoo and shit, but when she’d get out she’d be— tempting.
Dishes. He was there to do the dishes. Right. He needed to be doing that, not thinking about how good she’d smell when she’d come out, or about her long legs, her creamy thighs, her wet, parted lips, her small, lovely breasts, her—
Dishes.
But if he took hot water, she would probably notice, so, erm, he should… probably wait? He eyed the sink, and there wasn’t much in it any way, meaning that if he started now, he wouldn’t get to spend much time with her at all.
He couldn’t believe he wanted there to be more dishes when him and Miroku almost fought over who would do them at their place.
He liked that girl so much it was stupid.
“If there’s a price for rotten judgement… I guess I’ve already won that.”
He almost jumped, but no, Kagome hadn’t come out, and the muses weren’t singing to him either. She was just singing, apparently, just when he thought he couldn’t like her any more or could think she’d be any cuter.
“Who d’you think you’re kidding, he’s the earth and heaven to you.”
And she was doing the voices. Inuyasha held back a laugh, half-sitting on the table as he listened to Kagome. For a moment, he closed his eyes, letting himself be enraptured by her voice. No one could see him, and that meant he didn’t have to pretend, didn’t have to worry about people laughing at the half-demon so hopelessly in love with a priestess — yes, yet another, who could break his heart again because he didn’t deserve her either.
“No chance, no way, I won’t say it, no no.”
Same. That Megara girl really knew what was up, huh?
“It’s too cliche, I won’t say I’m in love…”
Ah, to be the one Kagome was thinking about when she sang that. To be the one who held such a place in her heart, to be able to hold her. He’d take far less than that, if he could. He’d be her friend, if she wanted him, he’d take being able to simply love her from a distance, even if that would crush his heart. He’d take anything if it meant he’d be able to keep her in his life.
“At least out loud, I won’t say I’m in love…”
His eyes snapped open when he heard the door sliding, and next thing he knew, he was looking at a very wet, very naked Kagome, with a simple towel wrapped around her.
She screamed.
He, fortunately, held back a scream — that was the least manly thing he could have done and he would never have gotten over it — and turned around.
“Fuck— Sorry— Didn’t mean to— Sango let me in for that dishes thing and I didn’t want to take your hot water—”
“You scared me,” she whispered, and she saw him tense. “I’ll— I’ll go change. Give me a second.”
She slid in her room, and closed the door with a last look at him. She couldn’t help but chuckle after that. His reaction? That was adorable. The look on his face, the blush, the way he clearly wanted to turn around but was holding himself back… And the thing he’d said about the hot water? Ugh. How could he dare.
She got out after having thrown on a tee-shirt and jeans. He had his hands in water, and she frowned when she realized he hadn’t put gloves on.
“Aren’t you going to burn yourself?”
He glanced at her, looking almost relieved that she was dressed now, and shot her a grin.
“Half-demon.”
“That doesn’t mean it would be pleasant, surely…” She tried dipping her hand in the water but he intercepted her right before that
“’m good, really, but it’s still hot,” he said, letting go of her hand almost immediately, like that touch was what had burned him.
She remained silent for a couple of seconds, not knowing what to do about this. About how fast he had stopped her so she wouldn’t hurt herself, about how warm, how gentle and careful he was despite his brash exterior, about how… She cleared her throat.
“So, erm, how long were you standing there?”
He grimaced. “Not long, I swear, I— Don’t judge me, you’re the one who sings Disney songs in the shower!”
She was unbelievably grateful that he was focused on the dishes when he said that, so he didn’t see her turning bright red. He’d heard that? Well, it made sense, because she was singing it when she had walked out but, still, he wasn’t supposed to hear her sing that.
“Oh, c’mon, I have a nice voice!” she joked, hoping she sounded natural.
“Keh. ’s alright, I guess.”
She bumped her head against his shoulder to indicate her disapproval, which was about the highest place she could reach, and then, when it turned out to be surprisingly comfortable, chose to stay there. Inuyasha tensed briefly, then relaxed.
“You’re leaving a wet spot on my shirt,” he protested playfully, forcing himself to say something so he didn’t just think about her body leaning against his, about how his shirt would spend like her after that, about how much he wanted her right now.
“Boo-hoo. So what, you can take almost boiling water, but wet hair is what sends you?”
He laughed, but didn’t reply. “Do you really mind?” she asked curiously after a few seconds. “I can move if you do.”
There was moment of silent, and then:
“…Nah. Nah, I don’t mind. You can stay there.”
For as long as you want.

Tumblr media
WELL THANK YOU ANON!!!! You sure know how to make a girl’s whole day!!!!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying, and I promise there’s more to come!!!
Like tonight, for example.
40 pages of rocker smut because it’s Keiz’s birthday!
Tumblr media
Summary: He had loved her for five years. Climbed to the top of the music charts to prove that he was worthy of her. He wasn’t going to let her walk out that door without a fucking fight. For @keichanz‘s birthday!!
Teaser below the cut!
Inuyasha sighed, leaning forward onto his elbow as the record execs before him prattled on about release dates and what not. Really, he didn’t know why he was in this boring as fuck meeting. He didn’t see what this had to do with him.
Well.
Yes.
It had a lot to do with him.
It was his damn album, ‘Cinnamon’, being released...his damn tour being planned...his damn everything being talked about.
He just didn’t want to be fucking here right now. He wanted to be out of LA on his bike driving towards the beach at sunset. What could he say? He was a fucking walking cliche and he didn’t give two rats asses about it. It made him money, gave him an easy life, and he wasn’t gonna bitch about it.
Well.
That, and his smooth as honey voice, and the good looks his father had so graciously passed down to him.
Thanks pops.
Still, he didn’t know why the hell he had to be here for this meeting. Kagome could handle it. She was good at this shit. She had an eye for detail and always fought for what was best for him. Him being here?
Yeah.
Totally fucking unneeded.
“If we can launch the album next month, then he can set out on a summer tour at the end of June - we will have lots of time to promote and advertise, and we can capitalize on the school girls looking to have some summer fun with their friends.”
“Next month is far too soon! He’s still in the middle of mixing some of the songs and--”
“I’m going to take a piss,” he mumbled, getting up and leaving the room. He didn’t care if it was rude or not. He wasn’t gonna sit there and listen to them going back and forth about the details. Besides. He was bored out of his fucking mind.
Once he was free from that godforsaken meeting, he lazily meandered down the halls until he found the balcony he knew by heart. It was his favorite place in the whole damn building because he could light up a cigarette...tobacco or otherwise...and no one would bother him about it. He quickly crossed the glass doors and reached into his leather jacket, pulling out the box of half used smokes and giving the bottom a couple of firm taps against his palm.
Damn.
It was a hell of a view out here. All of LA sparkled like a diamond, and he found himself smiling down at the city lights and the hundreds of cars slowly making their way to wherever the fuck they were headed. He pulled out a lighter after he plucked a cigarette from the packet. Inuyasha lit it with the expertise that came from being a regular smoker, and placed the butt between his lips. He took a long, slow drag, reveling in the taste. The feel of the tobacco entering his lungs. Fuck it was good...Calming. As familiar to him as a woman’s body wrapping around his cock.
He crinkled up the thick carton holding the last of his cigarettes, shoving them into his back pocket as he plucked the one between his lips and slowly exhaled.
“Damn…” he breathed. That was fucking fantastic...and it was worth ditching that fucking meeting for. Kagome could handle it. She was a big girl. Didn’t need him.
Hell.
She never fucking needed him.
You know...the good thing about being famous? The copious amounts of women and the money and being able to use your fame to get what you want...except for the things ya really want. That was the downside of all of this shit.
He was constantly surrounded by people, and yet...he had never felt more alone in his whole damn life. There was only one person he could really trust. One person he could really confide in...And yeah there was always a string of women more than happy to sit on his cock, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy it...but...he didn’t want a string of women.
He wanted the one woman he could never have.
His fucking manager.
Speaking of cliche...How fucking cliche was that?
It was nothing but business with that woman...that beautiful...smart...strong...powerful woman…
She was kind and sweet and put him and his needs above everything else. When he was drunk off his ass, she took him home and cleaned him up and rubbed his back as he vomited into the toilet. When he was lonely after kicking a woman out from his hotel room, she was there for him, in her mussed up, wrinkly pajamas, brushing the hair out of his eyes as she listened to him. She fought for him against the sharks trying to take every penny of his hard earned money. She helped him pick out his first...and then second house...She...She…
Fuck he loved her and he could never have her...and maybe that just added to the swell of loneliness he felt in his chest.
No amount of women could ever really replace her, and so...he fucked who he could when he could to make the hole in his chest feel a little smaller. Make her feel a little fucking closer.
He could still remember the first day he met her. He was just having some fun at an open mic...Doing a cover of ‘Can’t Go On Without You’ by Kaleo...and there she was.
The most beautiful woman he had ever seen, sitting on the other side of the dark bar, watching him with rapt attention. There was something about those cinnamon eyes that just...drew him in. Something about the way she sat on the edge of her seat...it made him feel like the only damn man in the whole fucking world, and he decided as soon as their eyes locked that he was gonna make a move on her the second he got off stage.
Only...when he walked over to her...she gave him her card.
He had been excited, sure. She was scouting him...saying she saw something in him...But...all he had really wanted that night was a first date. He hadn’t wanted all of...this.
Now, five years later, he had been on plenty of first dates.
Just...never with her...because his cinnamon eyed girl?
She was all business, and he fucking hated it.
Fuck, this was depressing as shit.
Inuyasha chuckled bitterly and took another long drag of his cigarette, slowly exhaling and watching the smoke spiral upwards.
“What the hell are you doing?”
Well.
It was a cold day in hell when she managed to sneak up on him, and yet…
“Smokin’ - you?”
“Dragging your ass back to this fucking meeting. Inuyasha, you can’t just blow this off…”
“Inuyasha? You must really be pissed, huh?” he mused, his amber eyes sparkling with amusement in the dim light shining out from the other side of the glass doors. She normally called him Yash when they were alone now. Inuyasha...That was a name for when she meant business, was annoyed or--
“Yes, I am,” she hissed. “This meeting is important, you know,” she snapped, crossing her arms under her breasts, and he allowed himself a second to look at her as he took another deep drag on his cigarette.
God she was beautiful. Black wrap shirt with red and white vertical stripes...loose high waisted black pants...black Louboutin heels...and the diamonds he had given her last Christmas. Tennis bracelet, station necklace, stud earrings...they all sparkled brightly, drawing his attention to them.
“You never take those off, do you,” he commented as he exhaled, the smoke swirling around them.
“W-what?”
“The set I gave ya for Christmas. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you without them, since I gave them to you.”
“I…” she trailed off, as if the wind had been knocked from her lungs. “That’s not important right now, Inuyasha. I need you to come back inside and pay attention to this meeting.”
He took another drag from his cigarette, just to annoy her. She was so damn beautiful when he pissed her off. Probably not the best thing in the world - to be attracted to an angry woman - but the way her cheeks flushed. Damn.
It was the closest he could get to seeing what she would look like after sex. Eyes closed in bliss...mouth shaped in that perfect little “o” when she came...it was something he’d never see for himself. His heart ached a little at the thought.
Fuck. Why did he like torturing himself so damn much?
“Yeah. I’m almost done here,” he sighed, taking another drag as she drummed her fingers on her forearms.
“Oh good. How kind of you to finish up your smoke break early just for us...You’re a Saint.”
“I know you mean that sarcastically, but I kinda like the sound of that, Kags,” he teased, and he watched some of the fight leave her body as her eyes and scent saddened. “You ok?”
“Yeah,” she waved off dismissively. “Just...anxious to get all these details hammered out.”
“You’re doing great so far,” he mused, flicking the butt of his cigarette to the ground and toeing it out. “Ya always do, Kags.”
She looked like she wanted to respond to that...but words seemed to fail her in that moment.
“Come on,” she sighed instead, opening the door and crossing back into the building.
“I’m comin’, I’m comin’,” he appeased, shoving his hands back into the pockets of his leather jacket. His thumb absently came up to play with the different rings on his fingers as he followed Kagome back to the meeting.
Let me know if you want to get tagged when this goes live!!

InuKag Week Day 2: Friends
AN: Yay, day 2! I wrote this whole thing listening to a Demi Lovato song from a Tinkerbell movie on repeat because it’s relevant as fuck. Hope everyone enjoys! Takes place during episode 48, “Return to the Place Where We First Met”
Can also be found here
Inuyasha had a lifetime's worth of practice at keeping a mask up.
He had no choice. His world was not a world that is forgiving of weakness, and it's especially not forgiving of the weakness of a hanyou no matter how young and alone they may be. One of the first things he'd had to learn after his mother's death was how to keep control of himself and his emotions; youkai or human, anyone trying to kill him would quickly get the upper hand if he let himself get worked into a panic. That was something he could absolutely not allow when his mother had worked herself so hard to keep him alive against the worst inclinations of her family.
So he walked a long road of learning to place walls around his heart, and kept his true emotions as far from his sleeves as possible. Struggling to survive hadn't only taught him how to fight; it had taught him how to put a good front in the face of malice and ridicule. He became someone whose smirk shut out everyone and everything, never allowing anyone to get too far past the harsh exterior and inviting the possibility of more abuse. There remained places in his heart that even Kikyou did not manage to touch, and a single arrow cut off the thought that she ever would.
Hanyou didn't have friends. Hanyou didn't have family. There was no place for him in anyone else's world, no matter what steps he took to change that, and the world had kicked him in the teeth to remind him of that.
Then it was fifty years later, and his self-imposed solitude ended with a girl in the shortest kimono he'd ever seen yanking his hair for all it was worth.
Inuyasha had never known someone so infuriating. She was loud, she got in his face, she refused to just stay put in this time until they managed to fix what she broke. She wouldn't let him stay at a distance, engaging with him like they weren't quite literally worlds apart with two entirely different lots in life. Like he wasn't a half-wild beast she was supposed to tolerate and control until their quest was done. It wasn't like his time with Kikyou, constantly burying the parts of his personality he knew she wouldn't approve of, trying to make himself into someone who didn't grow up scrounging for survival with a target on his back. Kikyou had gotten under his skin, but Kagome slammed into him with all the subtlety of one of those 'rockets' she'd tried to explain to him. There was no part of him that she did not engage.
Sometimes he just wanted to take her by the arms and shake her—why is she still here? She should have left his ass weeks, months ago! Didn't she know what she was giving up by staying with him? She had a home, with family that loved her and people that wanted her around and a world where she didn't have to worry about youkai coming after her every day for the shards. She was smart, despite all the complaining he did about her school and how it took her away too much. She could have such a better life in her world, better than anything he could ever offer her. She had to know all of this, even without his resolve to give Kikyou his life in repayment.
And now it all had to end, because he had managed to forget that his life was not actually his own to control.
Walking to the well to tell Kagome goodbye had been one of the worst experiences of his life, right up there with Kikyou's “betrayal” and the night his mother's family threw him into the wilds. He wore a calm, subdued face, but inside his head he'd been screaming since his talk with Kaede. His mind was in meltdown, horrified that he was going to have to give up the first person in either era that made him feel like a person instead of just an animal to be looked down on. When had he gotten so used to her presence? When had he come to rely on the fact that she would just be there, that incessant-seeming smile tracing her lips and making his stomach clench in a weirdly pleasant way? What was he going to do when he couldn't count on her slight, strong grip holding him together when he couldn't muster the will to do it himself anymore?
When did she get in so deep, and why hadn't he noticed sooner the way she'd burrowed herself into his heart?
*
Kagome always thought she knew how friendship worked.
She'd never been overly popular; people didn't clamor to stand at her side like some of her classmates over the years, but she did well enough getting along with other people. She liked people, she liked helping others, so it all ended up simple enough for a small group of companions. Her friends were just normal girls like her, nothing particular to separate them from the sea of sailor-suited girls. Nothing beyond crushes and petty heartbreaks, fashion and popular music and nothing that captured their attention for too long at a time. Simplicity.
In some ways, her friendship with Inuyasha was anything but simple.
How could it be, with youkai and magic and clandestine time-traveling involved? It was so beyond any scope of normal, and it wasn't like she could really hold it up for comparison to her friendships with the girls. How did you explain to someone the kind of bond that forms from watching someone fight for their life, get holes blown through them from monsters four times your size, day after day? How could she tell her school friends about what she felt sitting up to keep him company on nights of the new moon, when the sounds of their sleeping friends faded into the background and the world narrowed down to just the two of them and their silent understanding? Inuyasha was sensitive about it, so she didn't bring it up, but part of her waited eagerly for those nights where she could smile at him unabashedly and see him soften in their little solitude. He rarely softened towards her like that when the others were awake. It was like a secret they kept between them.
Even before any kind of inklings of romance developed, Inuyasha had carved out a place in her soul and made himself a nice little nest there, refusing to budge an inch with all the stubbornness that she'd come to appreciate as much as it drove her insane. How was she supposed to give that up?
How was she supposed to go back to a life as a schoolgirl, like nothing had happened, like there wasn't a whole other world on the other side of the well, with people she'd bonded with deeper than she ever imagined she could? She must have been an idiot to think it would be as easy as just handing back the shards, even though that's exactly what she'd intended just an hour ago—she couldn't even look at the wellhouse without the thought of saying goodbye making her stomach wrench. Even the memory of Inuyasha clutching Kikyou to him like a lifeline paled in comparison to the prospect of letting go of him and the Feudal Era. It took every ounce of self-control to not fly into a screaming fury beneath Goshinboku the way she wanted to, keeping herself rooted silently to the ground with tears drenching the dirt below.
This was the man she loved, the best friend she'd ever had. How could she stand to tell him goodbye?
**
In the end, as it always was, Mama had known just the right thing to say.
She took those words into her bruised heart, and found a reconciliation. She gathered herself, and whisked herself back through the well.
She and he met in the meadow, and the promise to stay they made that day became one more linking strand in their growing bond. One build on the choice to cherish their friendship above all the twisting, complicated feelings that might come to surface.

MY 10 FAVORITE ANIME SERIES
we have finally arrived to this list...*cracks knuckles* let’s enter into this battlefield!
•this list is MY PERSONAL OPINION!
•this list is MY CURRENT FAVORITES AS OF RN
10. Fruits Basket: Tohru, Kyo and Yuki, these three mainly get me all the time because they suffered so much but they still continue living a normal life even though they bare so much pain and suffering! This series never fails to make me cry and smile but in a good way!
Tumblr media
9. The Royal Tutor: oh my dear....OH MY DEAR!!! I never knew I’d get so attached to them so easily! This show never fails to make me laugh, it never fails to teach me something new and not to give up on what’s ahead! Learn something from these boys as well as listen to the Professor well because let’s just say I WANT HIM TO BE MY PROFESSOR 24/7
Tumblr media
8. Kyoukai No Rinne: ahhhh Rinne, Rinne, Rinne...my sweet Rinne...your funny as hell XD Let’s just say this whole series is literally an amazing comedy (it’s like Gintama but kinda kinda rated PG 13 version) with both the main characters being clueless about each other’s feelings and the people around them. plus if you miss Inuyasha or those “KAGOME” or “INUYASHA” yelling’s. then I highly recommend watching this because it’s literally “ROKUDO-KUN” “MAMIYA SAKURA” most of the time XD
Tumblr media
7. Hyouka: WHAT DO I HAVE TO SAY ABOUT HYOUKA?!?!? ITS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL THAT’S WHAT! The soundtrack, the designs, the character themselves! Every time I watch this I just absolutely love seeing Chitanda’s eyes glowing up and saying “I just have to know” to our beautiful lazy main protagonist. Did I meant it’s like Sherlock Holmes but the teenager version?
Tumblr media
6. Full Moon Wo Sagashite: so many words, so many tears, so little time. This represents me in a lot of ways. But let me tell you, Mitsuki may seem annoying to many people (she was a little bit) but once you understand and watch her grow you’ll start apologizing for everything you said to her because SHE’S A WARRIOR FIGHTING FOR HER LOVE AND DREAM! plus did I tell you that it is very very emotional? (you’ll know soon)
Tumblr media
5. Uta No Prince Sama: hey I had to add them to my list! every song has a meaning! every guy has a meaning and a story to tell. they represent us in some way but in a more musical way! I absolutely love seeing each of these talented guys grow not as a person but as an idol group and making bonds that I want to create. (BACK OFF LADIES I HAVE MY EYES ON TOKIYA)
Tumblr media
4. Shugo Chara: Amu reminds me a lot about myself basically, she’s trying to find who she really is although there are many obstacles ahead of her and it’s not stopping her not one bit! if people want to judge let them judge they’re just jealous of your amazingness, be yourself and don’t let anyone stop you! & plus Ikuto is kinda....fucking hot XD
Tumblr media
3. Chihayafuru: oof—the soundtrack, the characters EVERYTHING IS SO BEAUTIFUL! The poems for each card is so beautiful to read and listen! It makes you feel like your in a shrine: your either paying respects to God himself for these beautiful poems or your relaxing while listening to the wind and many sounds of the outside world! Chihaya felt relaxed when playing and her determination of being Karata Queen made me want to try the game itself. (I’m actually learning)
Tumblr media
2. Ao Haru Ride: oh my dear—THIS SHOW! oh my dear so many levels of feels and real life problems that really standed out and called to me! I really wished they could of continued this story because let me tell you THE MANGA IS SO WORTH A READ! THIS SERIES ALONE HAS MADE ME READ THE MANGA OVER AND OVER AND EVERYTHING!
Tumblr media
2 Bonus (it’s my list so I can add cheat cheats)
Blend S: look....it’s extremely cute to me not gonna lie! and plus Maika is also me, cute and adorable but every time people think I’m mad when they see my facial expressions XD so I feel her pain!
Love Live Sunshine: gonna get this out of the way....YOU IS BEST GIRL FIGHT ME! the girls learning and discovering new songs but also facing many trials to become an idol group is so fun to watch plus watching You Chan being adorable makes me happy
Haikyuu: ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING SPORTS ANIME (besides Free & YOI) I HAVE EVER SEEN! Like...AMAZINGLY AMAZING! it makes you feel like your watching them from a distance and makes you feel like your at the benches watching them and cheering them on! not to mention seeing them fight and being the best on the court is breathtaking! LET MY BOY’S FLY HIGH, HIGH TOWARDS THEIR DREAMS!
1. Cardcaptor Sakura: I could go on and on and ON about this certain series right here! you may not understand but seeing young love being discovered and learn the meanings of love itself is truly amazing to watch and this is the show to learn from it! Sakura and Syaoran learned what love meant at a very VERY young age! They started off with having the same crush, competing for his love and attention after many many battles with each other. As time goes on, they learned something new together that no one not even Tomoyo herself (jk she knows what’s up here) can truly get! time goes on again and we see something beautiful bloom between them that makes us tear up a bit. old version or new version it really doesn’t matter just one episode alone makes you excited and realize “wow I never knew love can be in that way as well”
Tumblr media
andddddd we’re done💛

**Also on ff.net here and ao3 here.
Inuyasha had a love-hate relationship with Kagome’s locket.
He would stare at it for infinity, at the picture inside of he and Kagome sleeping on his couch. He liked the picture a lot better in his locket than on the internet. And the other frame, her laughing at him after getting splattered with cake batter in the restaurant, his ears drooping. But in the picture, when he’d heard her laugh, he couldn’t help but smile back. He liked that picture more after it happened, too. But it hurt.
He’d tried to keep himself from it. Releasing aggressions on punching bags, binging on Naruto and popcorn (again), and playing music so loud that it would surely block out any thought of going back to that stupid little torture device around his neck.
And maybe… seeing her but not being with her was the source of the torture. She was unreachable. Inuyasha couldn’t touch her, get drunk on the warmth of her body wrapped in his embrace, couldn’t feel her breaths move in harmony with his own. And he had no idea when he’d see her again.
But that stupid, stupid, precious locket.
It was a Tuesday. He had no work at the restaurant. So Inuyasha sat in the living room window seat, turning over the necklace in his hands. Part of him prayed that the pictures would move, her familiar eyes would light up in the image, and her laugh would drift to his ear like a favorite song.
Gritting his teeth, he tossed his locket down onto a cushion and leaned his head against the wall with a sigh. Instead of the cursed little jewelry piece, his hands held his phone as he turned on Spotify. His eyes dully drifted to the Chicago skyline, past skyscrapers and out to the everlasting lake. The sun had only just set, and the last pinks and purples setting over the water gave way to stars. It would be daytime in Japan… He wondered, as he did whenever he thought of her, if maybe, just maybe, she was thinking of him, too.
Maybe she still listened to this stupid playlist she put on his account with songs he didn’t even like, like the one playing now:
...Oh you can fit me
Inside the necklace you got when you were 16
Next to your heartbeat
Where I should be
Keep it deep within your soul...
Inuyasha picked up the locket. He turned it over again. And again. And-
“It is almost August,” Sesshomaru’s voice interrupted his haze. “Will you be moving into a dorm, or commuting?”
Inuyasha’s head snapped up, and he took out his earbuds; he hadn’t even noticed that Sesshomaru had gotten home, locked in his own world.
But then, Inuyasha just scowled. “Hopin’ to get rid of me to make room for your new kid?”
Sesshomaru raised his eyebrows, walking over to stand a few feet away and cross his arms. “I do not need your room clear. We have an extra room. It’s a reasonable question; it makes sense that I would want to know if someone is still going to be living with me.”
Someone, Inuyasha internally repeated, scowl deepening. “What does it matter? Not like you notice if I’m here or not.”
Sesshomaru seemed unaffected as always. “Your presence is rather difficult to ignore.”
“Well, by all means,” Inuyasha muttered, turning his gaze back to the window, “keep trying.”
“If you have a problem with me, Inuyasha, I would rather you have it out then remain in a constantly passive aggressive state.”
“I wouldn’t call it ‘passive’ aggressive. I’m going more for ‘aggressive’ aggressive.”
“Inuyasha.”
“And it’s always been like that with us, so I don’t get why you’re suddenly asking me to talk about it.”
Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes. “On the contrary, after we defeated Naraku-”
“Kagome defeated Naraku-”
A sigh. “Yes, your woman shot him in the head. I was not putting importance in specifics. In any case, after she defeated Naraku, you almost weren’t cursing my name every day and you asked me to pass the salt without an insult afterwards.”
“Oh, what a miracle. Not my fault you went and thought it was important.” Inuyasha kept his gaze on the horizon. “Not like you care.”
“You make many assumptions. I simply asked if you were moving into a dorm.”
Inuyasha rolled his eyes and finally grumbled, “Yeah, I am. Rooming with Miroku. I’ll be out of your life. Yay.”
Sesshomaru pinched the bridge of his nose. “I did not force you to live here, Inuyasha.”
“You used the ‘Dad would want it’ card,” he argued back. “Pretty much forcing.”
“I did not send Higurashi-san away. That was you. You do not need to take out your misery on me.”
Inuyasha sat up, snarling, “You don’t get to talk about her! You’ve never given a damn about anyone other than yourself and Rin; you wouldn’t understand what’s it’s like to lose your fucking soulmate.”
Then, he felt himself grow embarrassed by the outburst. Inuyasha stood, beginning to walk back to his room before his brother could make fun of him about it. “Whatever. I’ll stop being all human at you. The only humans you like are tiny orphan girls you can boss around.”
“How can you accuse me of such things,” Sesshomaru answered in a low voice that made Inuyasha freeze in place, “when you do not understand either what it is to lose your child?”
Inuyasha paused. Then, surprised it was coming out of his mouth, he muttered, “I’m sorry. I liked Rin.” And he breathed out, pushing his bangs back. “I’m sure the kid you adopt will be great too. After all, you have high orphan standards.”
Sesshomaru kept talking. “And what is that supposed to mean?”
“I bet they’ll be damn perfect!” Inuyasha shouted, decades of anger suddenly lashing out. He turned, leaning toward his brother mockingly and baring his fangs. “And you’ll just be a fucking saint, won’t you? Taking in the orphaned child! Oh, poor kid, all alone and abandoned and rejected without a home! Bet you’ve hardly seen any of those! What a fantastic person you are!”
Sesshomaru was not intimidated, but took a deep sigh. “This is not about the child, is it?”
The damn burst. “Where the hell were you when I was that kid?! Wasn’t good enough for you, huh?! Too human-oh wait!” Inuyasha let out a maniac laugh. “You adopt kids that are one hundred percent human! Mad at me because it must be my fucking fault that our father loved my mother more?! Wanted a stupid sword that Father left me?! No, I was a half breed! I wasn’t good enough to have a home with my own fucking brother!”
Inuyasha laughed again, wondering if he’d be full, rampaging demon right now if Tessaiga weren’t strapped to his chest. “Well, you thought, you’d rather just kill me! Why actually try to give a damn about your own brother who kept having the shit beaten out of him for things he couldn’t control?! Adopt a kid--ha, that’s so fucking rich, coming from you! That would’ve been a fantastic idea about a few hundred years ago, oh, I don’t know, when Naraku killed our father and my mother! But this kid is sooo much better than me--doesn’t have dirty hanyo blood! Well, great find, Almighty Sesshomaru! So you go on caring about some random kid--see if I give a damn! Better tell them how special they are, because hey, you cared about them, but not your own brother! Have a blast trying to pretend that you’re not a fucking piece of-”
Inuyasha stopped breathing when Sesshomaru put a hand on the top of his head and pulled Inuyasha’s forehead to his shoulder.
His older brother held his head to his shoulder for several moments before saying, “Inuyasha… I am… sorry.”
Sesshomaru let him go, moving further away. Inuyasha was gaping at him, brain having shorted out even at the possibility that he was hearing this. But his bewilderment only got worse when Sesshomaru said, “I do… care.” His brother’s face was impassive as ever, but Inuyasha could tell he wasn’t lying.
Inuyasha couldn’t think of anything to say.
For once in his ridiculously long life, Sesshomaru looked a tiny bit awkward. “Anyway.” Sesshomaru cleared his throat. “I got something for you at the station.”
After digging in his pocket, Sesshomaru pulled out a regular-looking cellphone. Inuyasha took it numbly, after which Sesshomaru explained, “The screen is cracked, but it still works. We are replacing it and they were going to throw it away, so I took it. It is untraceable; we usually use them in undercover operations. No remaining Spider will be able to track any place you call.”
“So,” Inuyasha choked, gripping the cracked phone like a lifeline, “so I can…?”
“Yes. Check on that strange human of yours and make sure she hasn’t gotten herself into another ridiculous situation.” Sesshomaru’s voice was back to normal now, eyes wiped clean of emotion. “Since she met you and ended up taking out the most notorious drug and crime lord ever in history for the both of us only months later, I assume she has a knack for finding trouble.”
Sesshomaru strode off to his room.
Inuyasha stared at his brother’s back.
I am sorry.
I do care.
He remained numb from head to toe. He never would have expected… never.
And slowly, his gaze turned back down to the phone.
His fingers seemed to dial the number on their own; he’d memorized it, before deleting it from his contacts.
The dialing tone sounded, and he only breathed again when the line was picked up.
“Hai! Kagome desu.”
Damn. Forgot how to breathe again.
“...Kore wa daredesu ka?”
Finally, Inuyasha took in a breath and forced himself to speak. But the first thing out of his mouth was, “You idiot. Sayin’ your name right away like that; what if I was an enemy lookin’ for you?”
“...Inuyasha?”
For the first time in months, Inuyasha felt a huge, real smile spread across his face. “Hey, Kagome.”

No Place I Would Rather Be
Summary: We're a thousand miles from comfort. We have traveled land and sea. But as long as you are with me, there's no place I'd rather be. Word Count: 3.617 Genre: fluff Fandom: InuYasha Pairing: Inukag Format: oneshot AO3 Link: 🌹 Fanfic.Net Link: 🌹
Tumblr media
Boredom was eating him alive.
Days had passed without a single lead about the jewel fragments. So much that their little group had disbanded for the time being. Sango went back to what was left of her old village. It had been a while since she last paid homage to their dead. Kirara, of course, was her loyal company — and also ride. Miroku was visiting Mushin’s Temple, as if the place hadn't been profaned enough, already. Shippo was still around, but keeping his distance due to InuYasha’s stormy mood.
The frustration of it all got him desperately wishing for some kind — any kind — of action. Something that didn’t involve sulking under a tree and watching time crawl. Every second of this idleness meant another second Naraku was out there, still breathing. Collecting the shards was a small mean to achieve a bigger, imperative ending. It gave him purpose, a sense of getting closer to his ultimate goal step by step. Waiting got them nowhere. It only granted him to be alone with his thoughts and the combination was nothing but disastrous.
Lucky for him, his private source of distraction was not too far away.
Kagome was humming a foreign tune, the same one she liked to sing whenever she was happy. Following the melody was almost mandatory. InuYasha didn’t realize what he was doing until he arrived to the other side of it, where the girl thumbed through her hair in a futile attempt to tame her hair, the lake’s surface a natural mirror at her convenience. InuYasha made his presence known before his own reflection joined hers.
“It’s no use, ya know.”
“Jerk!”
The girl glared at him and retaliated by splashing water on his direction — of which he easily dodged. InuYasha had to admit her reaction was justified, given his past tendency to be utterly unkind to her. This time, however, although his tone wasn’t devoided of casual teasing, he was being completely honest. When you spend sunrise to sunset with someone for so long, it was inevitable learning a thing or two about them. Kagome had a wild hair. Not in a bad way, but it sure had its own will. Especially in the humidity, which was definitely the case of that afternoon. To an outside viewer, the strands could pass as straight. Noticing the shy waves at the end and how they used to stand out after getting wet was a privilege for the few allowed to look closer — a privilege InuYasha cherished. She always had her hair down and he liked that she did. It was destined to be free, to go with the wind. And it had grown a hell of a lot since they first met. The half demon wondered if Kagome was aware of how much. He certainly was.
Then she got up, revealing clothes that were undoubtedly new to his eyes. It was one piece, all lime flowers and malleable fabric against her cream skin. A bit longer than what she usually cared to wear, but leaving her arms and shoulders at plain sight in compensation. The view was thrilling, until his eyes caught the yellow backpack laying by her feet, causing his grin to falter. He understood the implication behind it, even if the question had yet to pass his lips.
“What’s with the weird kimono?”
“Oh, this.” Kagome lowered her gaze, inspecting for herself. Her combative attitude swiftly turning into a cautious posture. “It’s a sundress. I’ve been meaning to ask… can you please give me a ride to the well? I’m going home.”
There it was.
Somehow, getting his suspicions confirmed did nothing to prevent the scowl from forming on his face.
“Thought the school thing were over for the summer.”
“Well, yes...”
“Then why the fuck ya going home for? We still have plenty of supplies!”
“Because I promised I’d go to the movies with Hojo and now that we’re on vacation I don’t have excuses not to go, anymore. My grandpa literally ran out of diseases I could have. And what’s the point, anyway? Jewel hunting is going through a dry spell, everyone left… and I haven’t seen my family in weeks.”
Half of what she said didn’t make any sense to him and InuYasha positively hated the half that did.
“What if something comes up? I can’t see the damn shards like you do.” He argued.
“You jump through the well and get me.” She shrugged, as if the idea was highly unlikely. InuYasha opened his mouth to list the many, many reasons her solution was flawed. She bit him to the punch. “Listen, it’s not a big deal. I’ll be back tomorrow. I bet Miroku and Sango won’t even be here yet.”
It wasn’t fair.
In general, storming off to her era was Kagome’s way of punishing him for being a massive asshole. He got that. To tell the truth, more often than not he deserved it. But InuYasha was in his best behavior — despite feeling rightfully entitled to throw a tantrum, given the circumstances — precisely because he needed her close. He needed her to stay. Picturing Kagome hanging out with someone else instead was the worst kind of self torture. Would she change her mind if he swallowed his pride long enough to say so? Would he ever get the guts to let it out? She hadn’t invited him to come along. Was this Hojo guy really that important to her? More than InuYasha was? Trying to talk her out of it was a dangerous move. He’d put his foot in his mouth, she’d put his face on the ground. That’s what they did.
Either his expression betrayed the turmoil inside or Kagome became too good at figuring him out. Whatever it was, her smile shined, reassuring and warm.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be so quick, you won’t have time to miss me.”
“Who says I’d miss ya?” He dismissed, his indifference unconvincing even to himself.
InuYasha perceived another presence approaching. Shippo. His arrival couldn’t be more providential. Kagome had a soft spot for the brat. If anyone could get her to stay, it was him.
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s just the runt.”
Like he had been announced, the kid emerged from the trees in a hurry, Kagome’s bow and quiver looking gigantic on his tiny hands.
“Kagome! InuYasha!”
“Shippo-chan! What’s going on?” She asked, as soon as the boy reached them.
“There are rumors of a jewel fragment, two villages to the west.” He explained, with the pomposity the information called for. “Kaede sent me.” His chin was up high, like the statement added a final hint of importance to the message. “Here,” continued the kit, offering Kagome her weapon in a formal manner.
She hesitated.
“Kagome, let’s go!” InuYasha was prepared to move at the sound of the word ‘jewel’, their earlier argument happily buried and forgotten.
“Wait! Don’t you think it’s strange? For days we had no leads, and now, just when we splitted up…”
“Yeah, well, so what if it’s a trap? It wouldn’t be the first.”
Coward that he was, Naraku resorted to the nastiests schemes in order to get what he wanted. His disgusting fingers laid on every happenstance that had ever caused them harm. What choice did InuYasha have, though? Ruse or not ruse, he had to check it. Regardless of anyone else’s help, it was his duty to get vengeance on the bastard — for Kikyo, for himself — and Kagome knew that.
She sighed and took the bow and arrows from the fox’s hold.
“Thank you so much, Shippo-chan! Now can you do me another favor?”
“Anything!”
“Go back to Kaede. Tell her InuYasha and I are on our way.”
“I’m not coming with you?” He whined, as confused as InuYasha. They never traveled without the child.
“That’s right. We don’t know how dangerous this may be. I need you to stay and if we don’t come back tomorrow by noon, get Miroku and Sango and send them to us. Can you do that for me?”
Shippo resolutely nodded .
“I won’t let you down, Kagome.”
“I know you won’t.”
And through the same path he had appeared he went. Kagome fixed a pleading glance at InuYasha.
“Can I at least change clothes before we g—”
“No time to waste.” He said, grabbing Kagome and her bag to leap towards west.
Tumblr media
Kagome was whistling that same song again.
It took him an enormous amount of self restraint not to whistle along.
He was happy. So wonderfully happy. It was astonishing, the effect that tiny, bossy human girl had over his humor. The fact they were following the possible whereabouts of a lost jewel piece also played a role on his attitude swing, there was no denying that. But even if this turns out to be nothing at all, it would be a small price to pay in exchange of spending more time with her.
“Weren’t you mad about not coming home just now?”
His curiosity was genuine. Kagome had been angry since they left and InuYasha would be the person to know. She had two kind of anger. The one he could hear and the one he could feel. Even though she had been unusually silent, her frustration was palpable at first. Mercifully, it seemed to fade away the more ground they covered. Her one complaint was the soreness that too many hours on the same position inflicted upon the muscles, which was why they were both walking. As a rule, he was strictly opposite to anything that might slow them down, and the human pace was unbearable once you had a taste of demonic speed. Running free, with trees and people alike turning into a blur on each side of him, was an unparalleled sensation, amplified tenfold whenever Kagome was riding his back. He didn’t regret giving in, though. They weren’t far from their destination, after all. In addition, her comfort came to be a priority, despite him still being unaware as to when or how.
“Well… yeah, but… what can I do, right? Besides, I haven’t realized how much I missed this.”
Clueless, InuYasha searched their surroundings, unsuccessfully intending to spot what she could possibly be referring to.
“Whatcha talkin’ about?”
“This!” She spinned around, open arms and face to the sky, chasing daylight like a sunflower, the movement bringing her garment to life. “You. Me. An adventure. Don’t get me wrong, I love Shippo and the others, I’m glad they joined us. It just feels like we haven’t had as much quality time together as we used to, after they did.”
“Y-you miss that?”
She shook her head up and down with enthusiasm and a content smile fought its way across his lips.
“I know we could hang out in Kaede’s village, but it’s not the same as going out. O-on a trip, I mean.”
Although InuYasha couldn’t make out why her cheeks were suddenly burning red, he did see the logic her reasoning, and the feeling was mutual. There was a certain level of closeness only the road could provide. No curious eyes. No sly comments. No need to explain themselves. InuYasha had missed that as well.
He often played with the thought of stealing her away, of placate his selfish thirst for her undivided attention. Not once had he imagined Kagome would be as eager to go as he was to take her. Regardless, the timing wasn’t right. It never was. From the moment they met, they were tossed into a mission and there was hardly space for anything else. So he settled for whatever he could get until it was over.
“Why would you miss those trips? It ain’t like I was nice to ya back then.”
It didn’t make sense to him that she would. His memories were of a spoiled little girl, complaining about the bugs and her aching legs and the fact she hadn’t bathed in days. There was no escaping InuYasha’s share of responsibility on the issue. He could have made her life easier, had he bothered to. But at the beginning he saw Kagome as a potential threat he would eventually get rid off. How could he have guessed, after the many betrayals he had endured through the years, that his heart would be safe on her hands?
Kagome limited herself to a shrug.
“You are now.” She stated, as if it made up for his unexcusable former behavior. Her unconditional forgiveness amazed him, no matter how regularly she had shown it to him. “Also, it feels like old times.”
“It doesn’t unless you get kidnapped, somehow.”
“It happened once or twice!”
“Keh! Stop kidding yourself.”
“Shut up.”
“You shut up.”
“No, shut up. I’m sensing a shard and it’s moving away.”
Wordlessly, InuYasha returned the backpack to her and offered her his back.
They raced at full gallop, Kagome guiding their course. The forest transitioned into arid highland, where dirt, thorns and rocky surfaces took place.
“Hey, you!” Kagome yelled at the youkai emerging in their camp of vision. Their target. Over his shoulder, the startled creature sneaked a peek at them and increased speed. Growling, InuYasha matched his rhythm. “Wait up! We won’t hurt you.”
“I’m pretty sure Imma hurt him.”
“Give the jewel fragment to us peacefully and you’ll be free to go!” She went on, his snide remarks as ignored by her as her plead was by the demon. InuYasha’s patience was wearing thin. Now that the rumors turned out to be true, his focus was entirely aimed at the task at hand.
“Are those fancy arrows of yours just for show?”
Kagome let out a deep breath. Shooting was her last ressource. She preferred to sort things out with words first. It rarely worked. Still she always tried.
“I suppose we have no choice.”
The arrow hit the creature in the calf and his groan of pain reverberated through the field. Not lethal, but enough of a nuisance to make him drop the run. InuYasha closed the distance between them within seconds. Kagome climbed off him and together they inspected their opponent.
On the floor, a possum demon hissed and exhibited his fangs at them, his ugly face twisting in agony while he pulled the arrow out. A cascate of blood immediately flowed from the wound. InuYasha was not fooled by it. Being a full youkai, he would be healed soon.
“Where is it?” InuYasha asked Kagome, not daring to leave the bastard out of his sight.
“His belly.”
“Step away, you filthy half breed!”
“Excuse me?” Kagome defied, any trace of courtesy forgotten.
“That was quite the damage she did on ya, there.” InuYasha released Tessaiga from its sheath as he approached the fallen man. “Think I can top it, though.”
“Step away, I said!”
His fear was palpable. InuYasha could feel it. See it. Smell it.
Smell it.
Faster than realization, the odor filled his lungs. It burned his nostrils, his throat. He could taste the toxic substance on his tongue. It was unbearable. And gasping for air only resulted in the pungent scent flooding him further, overwhelming his senses. A defense mechanism, he thought, his vision blurring, his knees giving in. I’m going to faint. No. No, no, no, no, no. Kagome. He had to protect Kagome.
There was a cry of his name.
And then an awful lot of darkness.
Tumblr media
InuYasha came to abruptly, uncertain and alarmed by the new reality.
In one minute, the sun was up and he was succumbing, his consciousness leaving him to drift. In the next, he was awake and crickets sang the night’s arrival.
It was tempting to think he had dreamt the whole thing. A stupid, ridiculous, crazy ass dream. However, the lingering smell left no room for argument. It happened. The scent was weaker. Fading. But was there, overpowered by a significantly nicer aroma. A familiar one, sweet on the nose and soothing to the soul. Kagome’s.
He was lying half naked in her sleeping bag.
Sitting up, InuYasha seeked for the priestess, desperate to make sure for himself she was safe and sound.
The fragile light of her modern lantern illuminated the cavern that sheltered them. At its entrance, a girl rested — her silhouette contoured by a starry sky.
“Kagome.”
“You’re awake!”
She rushed to him, tripping over her own eagerness. Her beautiful clothes were dirty and a bit ripped at the hem. A small scratch cut her cheek, remnants of dry blood tainting her skin.
“Are you alright? What happened?”
“I’m fine!” Kagome kneeled in front of him, a gesture he appreciated. There was no peace for him without an up close inspection of her well being. “I purified the demon after you blacked out. Turns out it was a trap. Thousands of Naraku’s second-class demons came for the shard when I took him down. I tried to purify those too, but more of them kept coming and I ran out of arrows, so I casted a barrier and—”
“You casted a barrier?”
InuYasha was beyond impressed. Barriers required great power and discipline. Even from Kaede or the monk. Kagome had apparently done it all by herself. Effortlessly. On the spot.
“To be honest, I don’t know how I did it. I just… I saw you lying there and I… anyway, the barrier purified the ones who touched it. Eventually they all died or left. How are you feeling?”
InuYasha didn’t answer the question.
“I’m sorry, Kagome, that you couldn’t rely on me.”
Guilt pulsed within him like a heartbeat. Constant and compulsory, expanding the outcomes of its work through every inch of his body.
“It’s not your fault. Your nose is too keen, of course you’d be affected the most.”
“But you got hurt!”
“In the thorns. I was careless. Don’t worry about it, it’s not even going to leave a scar.”
“It shouldn’t have even happened. I’m supposed be the one protecting you, not the other way around.”
It could have been worse. InuYasha should be grateful for that. He wasn’t. It could have been worse. And he wouldn’t be able to help her, to save her from this insignificant peril while she had already saved him in every conceivable way there was for a person to be saved.
“I’m not as helpless as I used to be, you know? I’ve grown a lot.” She had a point. InuYasha himself had told her that much, once. Kagome had faced scarier dangers than that. And she could absolutely take them. But he didn’t want her to have to. “Not to mention, it was totally worth it.”
As a proof, she exhibited a jewel fragment, glowing in the healthiest shade of pink.
“You got it!” InuYasha captured the shard, glancing at every angle of it in awe.
“Don’t act so surprised.”
Kagome went for her backpack and came back, falling on her knees again. Her hand dove in and emerged holding the glass container in which they kept the other pieces. She opened it and tilted the receiver to InuYasha, hinting for him to do the honors.
It was as if she had been waiting for him so they could do it together.
As if it was their private, sacred ritual.
He did as she wanted, mirroring her satisfied smile.
“Where’s my haori?”
“Oh! I… I put it away.” Blushing, Kagome tore her gaze from his and InuYasha followed it to a corner of the cave, where a huddle of scarlet fabric laid forgotten. “I figured you’d heal faster with that smell gone and your haori is soaked on it. Sorry.”
“D-don’t apologize, stupid. It was the right call.” To feel useful — and to occupy his brain with something other than the image of Kagome undressing him — InuYasha searched her backpack for the first aid kit, a tool from her era he was sadly too intimate with. “Now let’s take care of this cut.”
“Okay. You have to g—”
“I know what to do. I’ve seen you do it a thousand times.” Her lips parted, and InuYasha added: “Don’t act so surprised.”
He cleaned the wound with cotton, water and soap, then used a different ball of cotton to carefully apply the content of a smelly little bottle to the extension of it. Kagome hissed, but he ignored it in favor of wrapping it all up with a band-aid. To ensure it was properly stretched, he gently ran his thumb through it, allowing the touch to linger more than necessary and his stare to go from her cheek to her eyes.
Her eyes.
The most stunning maze.
Let yourself get in, you are sure to get lost.
She blinked before he could, keeping them closed and leaning into his palm, her hand lifting to cover and caress his.
It would be so easy to grip her chin. To turn her face to him. To bring her to his lips.
So easy to steal a kiss.
Why do the easiest actions have to carry the most difficult consequences?
Clearing his throat, InuYasha transformed present into a loving memory.
“Take some rest. We leave first thing tomorrow.”
“Sounds good to me.”
On the way to claim Kagome’s prior guarding position by the entrance of the cave, InuYasha collected Tessaiga while she busied herself with getting cozy inside the sleeping bag.
“Kagome?”
“Yeah?”
Thank you.”
“InuYasha, I think we’re way past saying thank you for saving each other’s lives.”
“No, not for that. I mean, for that too, but... for coming. For staying by my side.”
“Stupid.” She mocked him, her voice lethargic as exhaustion finally caught up to her. “Where else would I be?”

A/N: this was some serious self indulgent bullshit. I regret nothing.
@inukag-week here is another piece of contribution. Kind of merged the Loyalty and the Instinct prompts here. Oops.

A Long Night (A MirSan Birthday Fic)
Tumblr media
Happy Belated Birthday @sapphirestarxx.
Although, I did give you this the other night. But the banner is new as is the playlist. This sweet girl is a lover of MirSan (as we all are) so this is my first for her. Sapphire was one of the first people to friend me in the Inu fandom and one of the things she lamented the most was the lack of MirSan fics.
So who’s ready for some Miroku x Sango romance with a side of InuKag established relationship? In this “we’re not setting you two up” fic Miroku and Sango have one wild night that hopefully ends well for both of them. This is also me playing with 3rd person omniscient again. I hope that doesn’t bother you Sapphire!!
I was going to do a one shot but for those of you who know me, my one shots aren’t really one shots... expect the next chapter soon!! Working on it today hopefully.
Playlist is here!

Chapter One
8:24 pm
“You promise this isn’t a setup?”
“For the hundredth time, yes. We are just meeting up with some people. That’s all!” Kagome called out from the bathroom as she finished lining her eyes. Sango paced in the living room, already in a bad mood. “You need to relax!”
“I’ll relax when this night is over and I’m back in my bed. Alone!”
Kagome emerged, light sundress and heels next to Sango’s jeans, tank, and tennis shoes made them look like they were going to different places that night. “At least wear your hair down?”
Sango rolled her eyes. The last thing she wanted was to go out tonight. The week had been rough enough as it was. Nothing but bratty debutants for clients and with no one calling for a guard this weekend, she had to worry where her next paycheck was coming from. Her roommate, Kagome, was the only real reprieve she got from the paranoid, ‘so rich they choke on their money’, assholes she had to deal with on the daily. So she tugged the elastic out of her hair and let it fall around her shoulders.
“Better?”
“Much.”
Their door shook from the knock someone did on from the outside. Kagome’s boyfriend was here! Due to him being such a stand-up citizen that could clearly take care of (and cared for) Kagome, Sango tolerated him. Actually, she really liked Inuyasha. He was the only ‘down-to-earth’ rich prick she had ever met. She was pretty sure that had to do with the fact that he was the illegitimate child of a CEO and his secretary. He had money now but he didn’t grow up rich.
Neither did Sango or Kagome. And their apartment reflected that; comfortable but cheap along with all the furniture inside it. Sango knew Inuyasha was a good guy when he came over for the first time and didn’t so much as flinch.
“Hey, Baby.” He leaned in and kissed Kagome before entering.
Sango looked away (never comfortable with PDA) but could still hear them whispering. It was sweet, however, it grained on Sango’s nerves. Especially tonight.
“Where are we going tonight?” She had asked Kagome but the doe-eyed look her roommate gave made Sango give up quickly.
“Out,” Inuyasha answered gruffly.
Sango was pretty sure Inuyasha was only sweet and soft towards Kagome. “That’s been made clear. Got a location in mind? Or are we wandering the streets like hookers tonight?”
Inuyasha grinned, he liked Sango. She was clever and snappish. She never took shit which was why he was sure his buddy was so enraptured. Not his word, fucking Miroku’s (of course). “If you’re into that, I’m not going to stop you.”
“Screw you.”
“No thanks. I’m good.” Inuyasha grabbed Kagome by the waist and pulled her in tight to his side.
Kagome giggled and Inuyasha smiled brightly down at her. It made Sango’s heart ache. She would never admit it but she really wanted something like the two of them had. Comfort, stability, and love.
She grabbed her cropped leather jacket and pushed around the pair. “Whatever. Let’s just get this over with.”
“There’s the spirit!” Kagome cheered sarcastically.
Inuyasha kept his arm around his girlfriend and leaned in close to whisper. Sango wasn’t that far from them but he figured, with the intimacy, she wouldn’t listen. “Did you tell her anything?”
“No, and it wasn’t easy.”
“Nothing about you is easy, Baby.”
She gave his ribs a playful smack; taking in his appearance in full. Her favorite part about her boyfriend? His long hair. It was pulled into a ponytail at the top of his spine right now but tonight it would splash with hers; a pool of silky black hair that neither could tell who was who’s. Sango walked ahead of them and sat up front in the cab. The beauty of tonight was that Inuyasha and Kagome didn’t know where they were going. They only had an address.
Which was why Kagome squealed, Inuyasha groaned, and Sango cursed when they pulled to a stop. “What the hell?”
“Goddammit, I’m going to kill Miroku.”
“Dancing!!!”
It was a dance club, already bursting at the seams with bodies going in and out. A long line (that had Sango hopeful) and a bouncer stood between them and a night full of scantily dressed men and women and overpriced drinks.
Kagome was already swaying to the beat on the sidewalk (yes, it was that loud) and Inuyasha wrapped an arm around his girl’s shoulders before she danced away. “We’re not exactly dressed for this. Maybe they won’t let us in?”
He said, consoling the hope he and Sango had. Neither of them wanted to go inside. But then Kagome turned to face both of them, hitting Inuyasha the hardest with her puppy dog eyes. “But… it looks like fun!”
“If you wanna dance then you can do it at my place. I’ll let you go nuts.” Sango chuckled as Kagome pouted. No way they were getting out of this now, Kagome wanted to dance. “Goddammit,” Inuyasha growled and threw a hand through his bangs, messing up the black mop that fell on his brow.
Sango knew where this was going as Inuyasha stepped up to the bouncer. Truth be told, Sango probably could get them in too; she recognized the bouncer from a work outing a year ago. Times were tough; good bodyguards had to moonlight as bouncers. Maybe she should ask if this place was hiring while they were here?
A few hushed words, some money slipped between them, and they were walking unimpeded into the den of demons. The place was actually called Hengoku (which meant Limbo). It seemed fitting, bodies undulating all over the place as if listless.
Kagome was trying to go to the dancefloor but Inuyasha kept a tight hold on her; guiding them all to a set of stairs towards the back. He didn’t know where Miroku was, but if he was here he’d be in the rooftop club for ‘high rollers’. And if he wasn’t there yet… then Miroku would be there eventually.
Grabbing her from his hold, Sango hissed loudly in Kagome’s ear. “You told me this wasn’t a setup?!”
“It’s not! We’re just meeting up with Miroku too! So we can all hang out?!”
Taking a look around, Sango didn’t see Miroku from the stairwell they were on (a clear view over the entire club). “Where are we going now?”
“No clue.”
Kagome caught back up to her beau and Sango caught on to the name of the rooftop bar. Tengoku. Seriously? Was the basement called hell? The roof was Heaven, the middle Limbo, and the bottom was probably a tattoo parlor. Sango couldn’t imagine anything worse than being drunk and near a place to permanently mark yourself.
The music changed; hard beat with the singers talking about Karaoke. At least they weren’t doing that tonight. And she seriously hoped the song didn’t give Kagome ideas. The roof wasn’t as crowded and Inuyasha had to pay their way into it as well. She couldn’t decide if Inuyasha being loaded was a good thing tonight. Because it was clear neither Sango nor Inuyasha wanted to be here. But it did make Kagome happy so they both went with it.
That is until Miroku stood and waved them over.
Inuyasha broke away from Kagome, rushing up to his friend and punching him in the gut. Miroku groaned and fell back to the booth he had for them, taking several breaths before struggling to speak. “Good to see you too…”
“A fucking dance club? Seriously?!”
Miroku recovered and smirked. “I knew once Kagome saw it, she’d make you guys come play.” The clever bastard considered his soul clean and turned to Sango. “Sango, my dear, so glad you could make it.”
“Drop dead.”
“I just might. You look exceptionally well tonight. I love your hair like that.”
Turning towards the crowd, she hid her blush as best she could. “Whatever.”
Miroku got to his feet again and allowed Sango to sit. She continued to scoot around, though, until she was mostly in the middle. Kagome sat on the other side of her and Inuyasha closed them in, keeping Kagome from escaping to dance. Miroku didn’t sit back down, looking over the group of fine (albeit mostly agitated) friends he had out with him tonight. He let his eyes linger on Sango and didn’t care if she noticed.
“First round’s on me.”
Inuyasha huffed. “You mean all rounds are on you. And I ain’t a cheap date. You owe us drinkssssss tonight!”
Miroku just held up his hands. “As you wish; Inuyasha, beer and whisky; Kagome, strawberry daiquiri; and Sango…” he paused to think but also to look her over again, “Jack and Coke?”
“How did you do that?!” Kagome asked, amazed.
Miroku shrugged with a grin. “Special talent of mine.”
He left to get the drinks and Sango turned to Inuyasha hotly. “If this is you guys trying to punish me for something, I promise I’m sorry.”
Kagome hugged Sango sympathetically. Then continued to dance in her seat. That wasn’t going to last long, Inuyasha was going to have to set the bird free. Miroku set drinks down and sat closer than Sango liked next to her. But with Kagome trying to get Inuyasha to stop pouting, Miroku was the only person she had to talk to at the moment.
“Want to make a wager?” Miroku said, a curl of a smile on his lips.
Her eyes danced from his mouth to his eyes and found she couldn’t resist smiling in return. “Yeah?”
“I bet you a dance that Inuyasha dances tonight.”
Sango huffed and glanced back at her friends. Inuyasha had one arm slung over the back of the booth, pretending to watch the crowd on the dance floor. But really he was watching Kagome as she shifted in her seat. Any second now she was going to spring free and leave them behind. Because no way Inuyasha was ever going to dance.
“You’re on.” Miroku held out a hand to shake and she took it. But then he held on, shaking slow and steady. Sango sucked in a deep breath; Miroku’s eyes were locked on her and made it hard to swallow. But she found the will soon enough. “If he doesn’t, then you have to do something super embarrassing.”
“I’ll gladly strip for you, Sango, but that won’t be embarrassing in the least.”
There was a twinkle in his eyes that both fascinated and terrified Sango. Miroku was just another trust fund baby. He didn’t have to work but he did. Miroku worked hard at the advertising firm and was now the owner. She could see it; someone like Miroku would be a natural at selling shit no matter how useless.
His finger snaked out and started rubbing her palm. That was when she yanked away. Miroku wasn’t deterred in the slightest. He never was as far as she could tell. But the truth was, Sango was the only one that made him feel unworthy.
After their second round, Kagome got free to dance. It looked like a combination of begging and promises that included some kissing that made Sango uncomfortable to no end. She stayed at the edge of the crowd insight and Inuyasha’s attention was almost completely on Kagome. Save for the small fraction he gave to Miroku.
“I fucking hate you, dude.”
Miroku balked. “Why?!”
“You never said anything about a damn dance club. You know I hate this shit.”
The glance Miroku sent Sango’s way had her worried. “I know. But Kagome doesn’t, clearly. She loves it. And just think how much love she’ll be giving you later tonight? Or how much she would be giving you right now if she wasn’t alone on that dance floor?”
All three of them turned back; Kagome was floating around on a high, twisting to the music without a care. Inuyasha suddenly didn’t give a shit about anything else and left his friends behind. He was welcomed warmly by his girlfriend while Sango grimaced back at Miroku.
“Someone owes me a spin on the dancefloor.”
She rolled her eyes and quickly slung back the rest of her second drink, hoping it would help her. Miroku waited for her at the edge of the booth, taking her hand to pull her to her feet. She ignored the skip her heart did and he enjoyed the rough feel of her skin. Sango had calluses on her hands from all the training she did. It was so different from all the other women he had touched… he probably shouldn’t put it like that but he did do a lot of handshaking.
The song was a little slower but still heavy and suggestive. A woman sang about ‘feeling good’. Miroku felt Sango made him feel good whenever she blessed him with her presence. It was clear she had been hurt, but he desperately wanted to be the one to silence that.
Kagome was curled into Inuyasha; the two oblivious to the pair that now joined them. Sango looked away when Inuyasha grabbed Kagome’s ass to get her closer. Miroku tried to do the same to Sango and she pushed his hand away hard. “Don’t push it!”
He chuckled and grabbed her elbow instead. Miroku put a hand on her hip as well, but she couldn’t bring herself to push him away; his eyes were on hers and she really liked that. They were swaying together; not really dancing together like the other couples were. But then again, Sango wasn’t trying to screw Miroku. But she was enjoying this, being close to Miroku while he was being decent for once. He wasn’t groping her or someone else. And he was silent so she didn’t have to hear his ridiculous promises of devotion.
Sango liked hearing them, she just didn’t believe the man whore for a second.
The song changed but neither made any indication of caring. Miroku pushed his luck and kept dancing, pulling Sango a little closer. His hand on the small of her back, he pressed his cheek against hers; it sent his hot breath down her neck to her shoulder. She was far from cold but it made her shiver.
Slowly, Miroku pulled and turned, brushing his nose along her skin. Sango knew what he was doing but couldn’t find the want to pull away as he lined his lips up with hers. Now his hot breath puffed across her mouth and cheeks; causing her to shiver again.
“Walk away.”
She snapped out of it just as Miroku did; a loud and angry voice making it over the other noise. And it belonged to Inuyasha.
The couple had drifted away; the distance made by either Sango and Miroku or Inuyasha and Kagome but now there were bodies between the friends. Miroku held Sango’s hand as he pushed his way back to their friends. Inuyasha was squared up to some guy and Miroku cursed loudly.
“What?” She yelled to him over the music.
He pointed. “That’s Koga. And he has always hated Inuyasha.”
“Why?”
“No clue. Jealousy? Inuyasha was a poor kid until a few years ago when his father found him. Koga has his own money and hates the status Inuyasha received with his money or something like that. Some people just want to hate on others. And Koga… he likes to mess with Inuyasha any chance he gets.”
Miroku said nothing more, pulling her along with him the rest of the way until they stood next to Inuyasha. Kagome was behind Inuyasha, holding tight to the back of his polo and stretching it out. But she was scared. Scared Inuyasha would get hurt and it didn’t seem worth it. The guy came out of nowhere and pulled her out of Inuyasha’s hold. Then tried to force her to dance with him! Inuyasha got back to her fast enough and now Miroku and Sango were with them. So it would be okay, right?
“Koga! How nice to see you again!” Miroku had his ‘seller’ voice on.
“Fuck you, Miroku.” Koga spat.
Two other guys stepped up and Sango glanced Miroku’s way. She felt a little pulse in her heart and thighs when the Letch didn’t back down in the slightest at the new threat. It was… hot.
Koga stuck out a finger and started ‘adding’. “Half, half,” and when he pointed at Sango, “zero. One against three doesn’t seem all that fair. How about, I get a dance from the girl and we call it even.”
Inuyasha growled and shoved Koga back. “What the hell is wrong with you? She’s not a thing!”
“She’s making my thing ding; far too pretty for you, Tashio.”
Miroku glided between the two alphas with his hands next to his face. “Why don’t we all act like grown men and walk away?”
Sango rolled her eyes at that; it was a nice idea and certainly the grown-up thing to do. However, nothing said or done so far was the actions of an adult.
The one in front of Sango reached out for her and put a hand on her arm. “Don’t you wanna go dance, Sweetheart?”
Miroku and Inuyasha both lurched; going to help her. It was unnecessary as Sango grabbed the guy’s hand and twisted it back. His arm was now a pretzel and she held tight. “Look, don’t touch asshole.”
“Okay, okay, okay, I’m sorry. Let go!”
Miroku chuckled and she glared his way for a second. “You didn’t say the magic word!”
“PLEASE!!”
She released the prick and he scampered back to ‘his side’. The three of them took a step back now. Miroku still stood between Inuyasha and Koga, putting two men between the creep and Kagome.
“Enjoy the rest of your night, half-breed,” Koga called out as he walked away.
Inuyasha turned on his heel, grabbed Kagome, and made for the exit. Kagome didn’t fight him on it either and Miroku continued to stand still as he watched the threesome disappear in the crowd. Sango had to stand on top of him and speak in his ear.
“Are we leaving now?”
He blinked at her; a slow grin spreading on his face before he nodded. Then he tested out a theory, wrapping an arm around Sango’s waist to guide her away. “It might be best.”
Kagome was still trying to calm Inuyasha down while they waited for Miroku to pay the tab. More PDA, Sango turned and took up watch for their remaining friend. The relief she felt at the sight of him was only because Kagome had started giggling behind her. That was the only reason: nothing else.
Miroku returned his hand to Sango’s hip, his arm wrapped around her. She allowed it but only so she didn’t feel like an odd wheel with Kagome now on Inuyasha’s back. The only good thing about Koga’s appearance was how eager Kagome was to calm Inuyasha (in his book). Not that Inuyasha expected anything else from her; she would have ‘calmed’ him down with a simple ask from him. But he never had to ask and it was one of the things he loved about Kagome.
“How did you know he would dance?” Sango’s question broke the silence between them and it took Miroku a second to follow. She had thought she understood Miroku but now, Sango wasn’t so sure. “How did you know Inuyasha would dance?”
“Maybe I just wanted to get naked for you?” He said with a chuckle but she wasn’t buying it. So he sighed and pointed to the couple before them. “You didn’t know Inuyasha before Kagome but he wasn’t like this.”
“Like what?”
“Happy.”
She looked at the couple again -closely- but it was impossible to imagine with the shit-eating grin on Inuyasha’s face. One he always seemed to have. Save for a moment ago in the club. The guy was prickly yet caved to Kagome’s every wish like it was nothing. Sango should have known the fucker would have danced for Kagome.
“I have to say, I was impressed with how you stood by him in there.”
Sango was giving him a coy look and it nearly stopped his heart. “Oh, come on! Like I’m going to run and hide?”
“I don’t know,” Sango smirked to the sky above, “you strike me as the flight instead of fight type.”
“I am a lover not a fighter, Sango dear.” He whispered, leaning into her ear.
She kept shivering, every time his hot breath touched her skin. It was why she didn’t like Miroku, he was always getting the better of her. Like now. “Miroku… get your hand off my ass.”
“What if I said ‘please’?” Her answer was to glare up at him. Miroku laughed and pulled his hand back to rest on her hip. “Too bad. It’s a very nice ass.”
“Look, don’t touch.” She growled.
“Happily… for now.”
She glared at him again but he was tipped back, looking straight at her ass as she walked. “Miroku!!!”
He straightened and laughed; Inuyasha and Kagome had stopped and turned to face them. Kagome’s head hung over Inuyasha’s shoulder to look down at them. “What are we doing now?”
“Going home?” Sango hoped.
“Mine or yours?” Miroku begged.
“Awe, come on guys! It’s early!” Kagome cried.
“This one’s drunk already.” Inuyasha groaned.
They were silent for a moment save for Kagome’s whimpering (sounding like a puppy). Inuyasha caved quickly and started carrying his load towards a bar or something. Kagome was cheering and rubbing his shoulders like a deep massage so Inuyasha decided to be happy with the choice. Sango looked to Miroku who hadn’t moved at her side.
“Shall we then?”
His dark brow twisted upward suggestively and she groaned. “It’s going to be a long fucking night.”
“Oh… I really hope so. Especially the fucking part.”
Sango really hoped he didn’t feel her shiver again. At least he couldn’t hear her heart as it danced in her chest. “Keep dreaming, Letch.”

Tumblr media
She awoke with a start. It wasn’t the first time this had happened since she moved out of her family’s shrine. It had only been a month maybe since it had become a permanent move. She got a nearby one-bedroom apartment; she needed her own escape—she meant place! She gathered her surroundings and realized she was completely alone… like usual… until she noticed the sound of running water…
What. The. Fuck. Happened???!? She remembered she hit the sauce pretty hard last night. Last night marked four of the longest years of her life. Four long years without her friends from the other side of the well. Four years without the love of her life. Four years of pure misery… Ugh her head was going to split in two from her careless actions or probably the worst hangover she had ever had…
Since her quick departure from the Feudal Era four years ago, she couldn’t shake her rampant and monstrous dreams. They caused her frequent disruptions throughout the night and drove the need for alcohol (well, to be honest, that wasn’t the only reason for her to start drinking). College had been not the best experience—especially when she had to share a room with a roommate. She knew her dorm mate didn’t care for her; in-regards-to: well-being, modesty, or just all around courtesy. She often had a pillow (sometimes heavier objects) thrown at her if she was screaming or crying in her sleep to wake her up, had her food ate without permission, or had her privacy violated…But the worst thing was—her roommate was what one would have referred to as ‘loose’. And by that, she didn’t care that she entertained men. No, she understood. Your body, your rules. Kagome didn’t care about what or who she did that with… She did, however, care her roommate did it when she was in the same freaking room!!!!
She often had to find refuge in Yuka and Eri’s room. Ayumi had decided to travel abroad her year having taken extended courses in high school of German to prepare her. But their second year, the four of them got a suite style apartment and things worked out better. But the nightmares never faded. She started to sleep with a nightlight, kept her bow close, started drinking before bed... Her friends felt for her, but they had their own lives, their own boyfriends.  They still hadn’t heard the full story of what happened to Inuyasha… They just knew he was gone. They tried to reset her up a couple times with Hojo… But she refused when she knew it was a date-like-thing. She was determined to always wait for Inuyasha to find her. He always found her… He would always come for her…
She could have started screaming because not only did she hear the shower running, but she looked down at herself and she was FUCKING NAKED.  And she was extremely sore down there. FUCK. DAMNIT ALL. UGH. Tears started to form in the corners of her eyes from her own stupidity… Four long years of not ever having a boyfriend, no random make-out sessions or anything… and she lost it on a night she blacked out… Actually, she could kind of visual some of what happened, so not completely blacked out, just some parts were missing… Think! Think how did I let this happen!?!?
She had been out with the girls and their boyfriends. She didn’t have to work, for once, on the weekend in the Emergency room. She usually was always worked weekend shifts with her being so new and willing—because obviously she didn’t have anything else to do. No boyfriend. She avoided home because of the reminders of her past, didn’t want to be alone in her new apartment... An excuse to avoid people in general… But when her friends called her, she reluctantly agreed as she hadn’t been out with them since graduation…basically a full month ago… whoops…
They had bought her shots all evening and kept trying to get her to make a move on Hojo because they knew she was upset about this was year number four without Inuyasha. They were at the newest club down the street from her apartment. They’d made her wear a black pencil skirt and a forest green sleeveless tank, sheer, but she insisted she had a black camisole underneath so no one could see anything inappropriate. She had been nicknamed the prude of the group. She didn’t care though. She didn’t care what anybody thought. She would stay a virgin her whole life if she had to. She would wait for him… Her friends assumed she was just nervous… Pfffft. Don’t get her wrong, she pleasured herself enough at home, but no one excited her. No one sang her that sweet erotic song like the owner of those amber eyes had. Call her prude, nervous about the idea of someone down there, whatever—bottom line was she wasn’t easy. She refused to just sleep with someone who didn’t even appeal to her. Maybe if someone had come along that inspired those feelings… Those wants… But no, no one had. Ever. There was no one who made her feel like that. She was doomed to become the crazy cat lady who fucked herself with her fingers.
But she also reluctantly, refused to give up hope. She could have decided just to more or less poison herself with shot after shot and pray Hojo would finally look okay enough to just ‘bang it out’. But no. Barf. Nope. Sorry, he had been the most boring person she had met. She’d prefer Koga. Koga. Even then, if Koga appeared right there in front of her, she’d still say no. Because it wasn’t him. Still didn’t have that beautiful silver hair that fell to his waist, those sexy little triangles that sat on top of his head, furrowing dark brows, sultry smirk…
After she lost count of shots, she snuck away and paid her tab. She didn’t really remember signing her name or how much she tipped, but that was neither here nor there. She made enough to support herself, her habits, and then some. She dipped out before her friends tried to get her to dance with Hojo. Nothing had ever turned her off less than them dancing together. She’d prefer to dance with her brother. Ok, she admitted, that was kind of crass, but still—that’s what she equated a dance with Hojo with; like her brother trying to make move on her. Barf. Hojo had just become that constant reminder to her how boring her life had become once she returned from the Feudal Era. A reminder of what she really wanted… Oh Gods, she thought she was going to be sick. Nope. Nope. She needed to make it to the apartment.
She walked noisily up the stairs. Staggering around and laughing at herself, she knew she looked like a drunken idiot. The only person who she knew who lived here was Jiro, her across the hall neighbor. She didn’t mind him. He was okay looking. He had black hair, kinda longer than most but wore it in that trending man-bun. He had bright blue eyes. Brighter than Miroku’s. It was weird because he looked similar to her old friend... But he was nice and not at all handsy. He listened to some of her college stories. Listened to her cry. Watched movies with her as she passed out from her drinking too much in an evening. He was nice guy. He never took advantage. But it probably did help she made it clear nothing would EVER happen.
She finally got to the fifth floor (the thought occurred to her why hadn’t she taken the elevator? Oh yea, she couldn’t figure out the buttons hahahaha). And he was standing there. She had to be crazy. It wasn’t him. Demons were gone. They hadn’t been around in ages. She searched, researched, tried to find any clue that they could be around. That he could be around… That they’d just gone into hiding… Nothing… She clearly was delusional at that point. Drunk. Yea, definitely that. She had what… four shots bought for her? No, probably like six…eight? Not including the two drinks she had herself?
But this was the first time she felt like she could actually sense him. His demonic aura… She hadn’t given up all her hopes yet. But she resigned herself and just smiled sadly thinking her mind was playing tricks on her though; it was their four year anniversary of being separated after all.
“Heyyyyy… Why you up so late, Jirooooooo?” She sang drunkenly.
His face changed from sheer awe to confusion. His head titled as she approached him stumbling in her heals. As she watched his ears twitch, wow she had a very active imagination, she tripped and gasped but his arms caught her easily. She giggled and hiccupped turning up to face him.
“Opps, sorry ‘bout that! Probably had like, four too many tonight…I blame the girls though. They bought more than half, said stuff about ‘no pity party’ or sumthin’…” she felt her face heat as his hands didn’t move away nor did he say anything… probably just thought she was being crazy and had been helpless like usual when she was absorbed in her bad influences. She turned away from his chest to the purse in her hands to grab her keys but unfortunately spilled the entire contents onto the floor with only her keys and purse intact.
“Ugh *hiccup*darnnnnnnnn! Jiro, lemme go, I need to pick all this up and climb into bed,” she slurred.
He still didn’t release her and was breathing unsteadily. What had gotten into him? “You’re acting all weird ‘n stuff Jiro, everythin’ ok? I’d ask if you wanna talk but it’s late and I’m pretty sure I’m not gonna remember at this *hiccup* point,” she drowsily turned to face him.
Goddddddddd[AR1] [AR2] . That FACE was still staring back at her with those amber eyes, silver hair, fluffy ears, dark brows, tan skin…
“Uhm… Jiro? I know this sounds kinda crazy… but—you have a different face on ya. For real, I need to go to bed. I’m losin’ my mind.”
“Whose face do I have, Ka-Go-Me?”
Her eyes widen and her breath hitched. She swallowed uneasily. That…that voice… Maybe this was a sign—she should just give into her needs and just fuck this dude already that now took on Inuyasha’s form. For whatever reason, the universe, the Gods, her imagination were finally making her see, hear, smell, and touch “Inuyasha” again… She had refused to entertain those ideas anyway just in case Inuyasha did manage to come along… Well not just because that. The attraction thing was huge. But she hoped if he had lived 500+ years he didn’t wait for her… She just knew his sense of smell would put him off if she fooled around with someone not special to her, but he could probably forgive her for not waiting... Wait—was that why she didn’t find any one attractive? For the off chance he finalllllllllly appeared, he would smell her? What was she saying? Thinking? God, all her thoughts were jumbled. She didn’t need to play counselor to herself right then. Maybe she should’ve just stopped waiting… He was gone… This wasn’t him. No, she couldn’t allow her heart to be shattered again…
“Wh—uhm—” she cleared her throat, blushed having heard her name said like that. It’d been since she started traveling with Inuyasha since her name was pronounced like that. She was beyond flustered. “Ji-Jiro uhm, it’s late, I may be drunk but—but—I’m waiting for someone. If you know what I *hiccup* mean. Go home,” she said flailing her arms towards his apartment.
His eyes softened, “Who are you waiting for?”
He had been acting so weird and clingy! So unusual for him. He would have usually just leave her, let her stumble—he respected her independence. Even though sometimes in the morning she wondered whyyyyyyyy he would have left her in the state she was in. But he remained steadfast—his arms still around her. She figured he could come in for bit… He was always respective… He wouldn’t have tried anything… Grabbing her keys she leaned forward against his chest, resting her head on his shoulder—had he gotten taller?—reaching around him and put them in the door and twisted. Even with heals, she probably would’ve been able to meet his head… He wasn’t that tall… Who knows, she was obliterated. What was she thinking about anyway? His arms slightly increased their pressure around her, and she swore he took a giant whiff of her hair.
“Well come on in; I probably can’t walk anyway without you’re help. The girls thought it’d be ‘sexy’ to wear these disastrous shoes… but I’ll tell you a story Jiro *hiccup*. About the man I fell in love with…that one’s new right? I know I’ve been refusing to share, but I’m probably numb enough to share tonight.”
He bent slightly and picked her up bridal style causing her to shriek a little in startlement and her to wrap her arms around his neck. Wow, his hair was really that long? She wove her fingers through it… Jiro’s hair isn’t this long, there’s no way I’m that creative with my imagination… Nope—nope don’t let your hopes get raised. You’re just crazy. Crazy. Yep. He paused at her ministrations looking down at her as she turned back to face him… Her heart was racing… She swore she saw him eye her lips and lick his briefly but then placed her on the couch gently before turning away. She immediately missed the intimate contact. He returned to the door and picked up all her things from the floor outside putting them back in the bag for her. Dude, he was such a nice guy. She felt bad to burden him with her problems…
He closed the door behind him and stopped midstride having caught an eye of a picture she had by the front door. The picture of her and Inuyasha taking a selfie in the feudal era. Where she was encompassed between his legs smiling radiantly into the camera and he had his handsome cocky smirk on his face. She giggled drawing his attention back towards her.
“That’s the guy you look like right now. Liquor is a cruel bitch like that, I guess. His name is…was… Inuyasha… I met him when I was fifteen… We uh… knew each other for three years. He was in love with someone else, for a while there… but I couldn’t stop how I felt. If anything, the love I had for him just grew stronger. We had so many moments I really thought, ‘he feels the same’… Like one time he made me cold medicine, he had told me he was scared to lose me but that he needed me by his side, different battles, uh, things happened to have those words fall from his stubborn crass mouth, but he’d also give my his haori even if it meant he’d be more vulnerable… Kisses on the cheek…Temple… A couple on the…” she lightly touched her lips remembering the sensation. “I was eighteen when we got separated by time, literally, and I’ve been searching for him since. Today made four years...FOUR. Can you believe that?? But I’m still lookin’. Even though I don’t think I’ll ever find him… I-I…”
He came and sat by her and looked at her worriedly.
“I’m not crazy—not some childish girl lovesick on some crush she had in high school! I love him! It was real! I’ll find him! I’ll prove everyone and even myself wrong! He can’t be gone! He-he can’t…H-he always has come for me…I-I can’t give up on him,” she started crying. Sobbing actually. Hysterically. How embarrassing. God she was pathetic; she’d been so good about keeping her secrets about her broken heart. Her resistance to move on. Her lack of enthusiasm of seeing the people she still had in life. She always just cried and said she didn’t want to talk about it… Jiro never had pried further. But she apparently lost her last shred of dignity and bawled like a child. “You should leave. Please, don’t judge me. Please! I-I can’t lose you as a friend. I lost all my closest friends then too…The ones that mattered. I-I just miss him so much!”
He grabbed her hands from her face and looked into her eyes with those beautiful rich golden eyes…
“Kagome…It is me…I-I’m not Jiro. You aren’t seeing things—it really is me.”
She stared at him disbelievingly. “It-It can’t be…”
“It is though, Kagome. You’re not just seeing things. I’m here! I’m real,” he steered her hands to his ears. Oh God, she swore he started purring as she massaged them.
“It—I—this isn’t possible…”
“I’m sorry it took so long for me to get to you. I tried to find you but the first time I came by you had left for college… I should have just told your mom who I was when I came by, but I didn’t want to distract you from your future or what you wanted… You were still so young and I wanted to give you time to grow still… The next time she said you had gotten a job at a hospital nearby, but you didn’t come by often. She was reluctant to tell me where you live, and I couldn’t blame her for wanting to protect your privacy—but I actually got a call from Jiro before I could actually tell her who I was while I was with her. He was certain it was you. I told her I was a friend of yours and swore everything would make sense after I talked to you… I-I just wanted to make sure you still wanted to see me. To be in my life before I said anything to her, I just had to see you… I came here and I-I found…” he trailed off. This had happened earlier that very day… He had just left her mom’s house and came here. She had unpacked those pictures since she had the time and Jiro came by and had lunch with her. Her mom had called her three times while she was out… and she stupidly ignored all three. He had waited here for her for hours... And found her stumbling up the stairs laughing to herself drunk as fucking skunk. Nope! He wasn’t real! No God was that cruel. He was for sure an illusion.
“No, no, no, no, noooooo….P-Prove it! Prove to me, you are who you say you are then; prove you’re real,” that extra hiccup at the end made her realize how unserious she sounded—but she thought she sounded pretty desperate at least.
He slightly cringed but appeared to be willing to play her little game, “Ok… ask me anything you’d think I wouldn’t be honest about…anything you want…”
“Mk fine I will! *Hiccup* How did we meet?”
He got up and got her a glass of water and returned handing it to her, “You broke the seal on me. The one Kikyo placed…You broke the arrow, and I attacked you for the jewel. The subjugation beads were placed on me and we began to travel together after you shattered the jewel.”
“What about, how did I get back and forth?”
“The stupid fucking well…You came and went to be with your family and for those stupid tests at school…I should’ve smashed that thing when I had the chance before it separated us.”
She blinked… It couldn’t be… There was no way…
“Ki-kyo…” she said brokenly hoping he would know what she was asking.
“Sigh…I know we never really addressed this. Hopefully this will be enough. I loved Kikyo. We both sought each other out on loneliness. The problem was, we didn’t trust each other. She didn’t trust me because of my demonic heritage. She wanted me to become human using the jewel… I hesitated because I wasn’t sure that was something I wanted. But she said as long as the jewel existed, she could only be a shrine maiden. A priestess. She wanted to be ordinary—in order to be a normal woman with a normal life, the jewel had to be used... I agreed, because I was done being alone, and couldn’t take it if she wouldn’t be with me if I was a half-demon… but in the end I didn’t trust her to believe she wouldn’t try to kill me. After all, I was a dirty half-breed. Then I met you; you taught me to trust, work with others, befriend others… care about other people…
“When she was resurrected, I had already started to fall for you. We were beneath that tree in the village when I tried to kiss you and you pushed me away. But with Kikyo back among the living so shortly after that, my duty to avenge her, save her from the person she had become… it was too much. I couldn’t stop myself from falling for you, but I refused to let you know. Because I was stupid, stubborn, afraid you didn’t feel the same. Even once I did hear that you did love me, the idea that anyone I loved died, it drove me away from you… It didn’t stop the little moments between us. I-I couldn’t help it. Knowing you actually did love me… I just—I wanted to wait until it was all over before we could actually figure out what was between us.
“Kikyo will always be my first love; but Kagome, you had always and will always have my heart.” He took her hand and placed it on his chest. Oh Gods… this—this—
“Th-that picture…” she continued. She had to hear more.
“You brought your cell phone back one time and you took pictures with all of us… So that you had something to remember us by just in case…We were awake after the others fell asleep… I asked you for another one to be shot because the other one we had taken before wasn’t good enough. I wanted… I made you believe it was something you wanted, a better picture with just us… We took a couple. The last one I surprised you and kissed you.”
She swallowed. She knew she was going to start crying again. Stupid drunken images. He couldn’t have been real. But it reallllllly seemed like he was. She didn’t normally see him when she was wasted... Even though she really wanted to. She thought it would numb her pain. Make her forget. But there he was—right there in front of her. On her navy couch. Red button-down shirt, grey suit pants, long silver locks uncut, blazing amber eyes… Oh Gods… this wasn’t real… She wouldn’t allow her hopes to be raised. They had been shattered so soooo many times, she couldn’t allow herself to allow the deception in.
“Where did you find me after the final battle?”
“In the jewel…”
“And we…”
He grabbed her face and kissed her softly which made her melt into his body. She finally let herself go. Who cared? No one could or even would blame her. Even if it wasn’t Inuyasha, she had proved her loyalty to him and then some. She climbed into his lap and wrapped her arms around his neck and tried to pull him as close to her as humanly possible. His hands found themselves on her hips. She felt it. They were both hungry. Hot. Aroused. Needy.
He still smelled of pinewood, forest, musk. God, she had butterflies swirling in her stomach, heat spreading to her lower regions. If this was a dream, an illusion, or just a drunken image, she couldn’t have stopped it even if she wanted to. She needed him. Or whatever he was. Right then. Right there. She shifted and started to slowly grind on his hips, moaning all the while she started to unbutton his red shirt... His hands found hers and he pulled away. She whimpered loudly in disappointment.
“Kagome—God—You don’t know what this means to me. Seeing you, finding you again… But—but you’re drunk. You’re not thinking clearly.”
“Don’t care,” she tried to start kissing him again only for him to have kept her still.
“I’m not going to take advantage of you like this. We just found each other again. I—I can’t—”
“Inuyasha—it’s been four years for me, five-hundred-four for you…Just—shut up” she plunged forward and finally was able to recapture his mouth and he seemingly reluctantly resumed kissing her. Her hands started their handy work again until she shoved off his shirt down his fucking ripplin’ muscles. God, he was more built than he had been before. She swore she could have cum just from the sensation of her fingers touching his warm god-like body, or even having kissed him and him kiss her back in such fervor probably only they could have ever knew.
She moaned as she kept rubbing herself against his very present hardened length. Her skirt was basically no longer a skirt as it was so pushed up exposing her heat. She felt bad knowing that his pants probably were just as wet as her panties. If this was a fantasy she had conjured up, whew boy was it an amazing one. But each kiss, each brush of their tongues, each moan, growl, pant had begun to break down her walls to let her start believing it was reality. He was groaning but clearly hadn’t lost himself completely yet. If this was a dream, she wouldn’t have had that! He was going to fully enjoy this just as much as she planned to. It just then it became a plan of how to get him to unwind.
She moved from his lips, which did cause her to whine a bit but kissing her way down his jaw to his shoulder, to his pecks, Godddddddd. She was beyond wet. She was so horny it was unbelievable. She had never felt like that with anyone. She needed him more than she needed air. But he clearly refused to undress her or be an active participant aside from kissing her. Fine; she admitted she was drunk. But she didn’t care. She maybe would have regretted this in the morning, but the alcohol was definitely convincing her to not give a shit right then.  If this truly was Inuyasha, she would have zero regrets… She dropped to the ground between his legs and laughed. Which in turn caused her to hiccup making her only laugh harder.
She turned her eyes back to his face who was flushed but gazed down at her with concern.
“I waited for you, ya know? I couldn’t find anyone who was even half the man you are…I’ve never done…anything…” she trailed off while her hands moved along his thighs which caused his muscles to tighten and forced him to let out a low groan. She reached his button and unbuttoned while she maintained eye contact. She then pulled down the zipper. Slowly. Teasingly. Testing.
“Ka-Kagome—”
“Sh, sh, shhhhh. I’m going to prove this isn’t just about me…Inuyasha…I need this for myself too…Please…” Her skipped a beat when she uttered his name. She tugged down his pants to which he seemed hesitant but still willing complied to her nonverbal commands.
After a long look into his unsure hazy eyes, she turned to look at his twitching hardened cock. This had to be real. Even her imagination couldn’t have made this kind of thing up—the details were so…explicit. Mouthwatering. They made her body burn with excitement. She slowly wrapped her fingers delicately around it and stroked up gently. He jumped and growled. Mmmmm how she missed that sound.
She bent forward and took him in her mouth. His hands shot out to her shoulder and he tried to push her off; but she clenched one hand onto his bare thigh to steady herself and reassure him. Her other remained stroking in time with her taking him as deep as she could in her mouth, covering what she couldn’t contain. Clearly his resolve was weak enough at that point as it kept him from completely over-powering her. Or her fantasy she was stronger. Whatever it was.
He started panting and moved his hands into her hair, but he did not push her down or try to control the speed. It was like he just enjoyed having her tresses in his hands, between his fingers—she didn’t mind either. The sensations only added to her desires. He still rumbled through his gasped breaths, deep from his chest. She felt him twitch in her mouth and his grip tightened as he tried to pull her away but she held firm; she swirled her tongue around the tip, softly grazing him as she would bob up with her teeth and then encase him with her tongue on way the back down. She wanted to know how he tasted or wondered what her imagination would dream up. She was determined to keep going no matter how fucked up she would feel tomorrow. She had to know if in that very moment he was real…
“Kagome—I’m gonna—" She looked up at him and it caused him to hold his breath. His flushed face, tremoring body, God, she started praying to all the Gods she hadn’t spoken to in years that this wasn’t a dream or some drunken made up illusion.
He howled when he released, and she drank him up like she was parched and stuck in the desert, unsure when she would see water again… He was her savior. Her light. Those golden eyes bore into her own chocolate orbs heating her like she was laying on the beach in the middle of summer. She pulled back once she felt him stop pouring into her mouth and remained kneeling.
He grabbed her by her upper arms and drug her back up to him and kissed her hard. His tongue pushed back her lips and she let him taste himself in her mouth. He growled in approval and embraced her hard. He pulled back for them to catch their respective breaths again and locked eyes with her before he kissed her forehead gently.
“Kagome… I-“
“Inuyasha… Please…”
“Grrrr, you’re still the same stubborn wench from five-hundred years ago.”
“Hehehehe, you can say that. Please, I just… I want to believe you’re real… That you’re really here… Please…” she implored stroking her hand on his cheek.
He leaned into her hand sighing. He was still holding back. For whatever he was, real, fake, in between, he was uneasily wavered. Her hand moved subconsciously to his ear where she started kneading it in her finger. He more or less purred (she would never tell him that if he had been real) and kissed her again. She melted in his arms as he picked her up letting her wrap her legs around his bare waist and was carried to the bedroom. She actually didn’t remember that very clearly, she was still in a drunken haze, and only felt she was becoming more intoxicated by that man’s tongue working every angle of her mouth while her own grazed his sharp fangs. Was it possible to get high on this feeling? If so, she was.
He sat her on the bed and moved to unbutton her top but, yet AGAIN, paused. She exhaled irritably and earned a chuckle in addition to the resumption of his fingers delicately unbuttoning her top. She released his shoulders so he could push her top down her arms. She pulled her own camisole over her head and unzipped her skirt letting it fall loosely to her bottom and legs. She sat in just her under garments—lustful eyes set on him. Pleading. Begging for his touch. He slowly cupped her breast which caused a very unexpected sound to escape her own mouth. His mouth moved to her neck and his tongue laved its way to her shoulder.
Her walls were almost broken at that moment. This was a million times better than any fantasy she had dreamed up. She couldn’t have controlled her panting or her withering body at his ministrations even if she had tried to. Her images started to get harder to remember from the night before. Ughhhh noooooo! Keep thinking stupid!!!!
Her bra came off, did she take it off? Or him?
She remembered lifting up her hips for him to pull down her skirt while his mouth suckled on her nipples. That wet hot mouth on her breast made her mewl loudly. She was putty in his hands. Her underwear met an unfortunate fate, while she didn’t see them being removed, she heard a very distinct tear and the sensation of lace went missing…
She had been lying flat on her back as he crawled above her; he took her lips in her gently and lovingly. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and lightly brushed her fingers over his back and then threaded her fingers in long silver hair. He pulled away and started to trail his way back down her body, nipping, licking, kissing, hands brushing against every surface his face passed.
Fire. She was on fire. She was desperate for her release. She had never been so achy in her life. She was brokenly saying his name over and over pleading for him to understand what she wanted when she felt his tongue lick between her folds against her core.
She wailed and locked her hands on his head. Pressing him, if possible, further into her. His pace was torturous. She could tell he was learning her smell and taste all over again. She heard him mumble about how amazing she smelled and he had so many dreams about tasting her—none of which stacked up to that moment.
“Please Inuyasha… Pleaseeeee…”
That was what broke him—he began to set a better, fast rhythm. He used one hand to keep her hips steady (which she hadn’t been aware they were apparently out of control) and the other had started pumping a digit in and out of her. She had already been spoiled. She could never go back to her own fingers. No. Never. They would never stack up.
She was sooooooo close. The coil in belly was pulled tight. She wasn’t even sure if she had been panting or breathless at this point. She remembered trying to buck her hips in time with his fingers (wait, he added some??) but he still held her hips still. But the moment his mouth clamped down on her nub she was gone. Literally and figuratively. That was it.
The shower turned off and she heard the sound a towel being wrapped… She was scared. She figured she might as well check herself into a mental institution… That or AA. She knew she had issues. She shivered in revulsion pulling the cover up to her breasts and closed her eyes when the bathroom door opened in the hallway.
“Kagome?”
Th-that voice… She dared peek and… it really was him. He was standing there, wrapped in a towel hanging from his hips, hair dripping from the shower, concerned eyes on her. She threw the sheet off, stumbled out of bed, and jumped to embrace him. He caught her easily and held her close as she sobbed into his chest brokenly weeping his name. He started to stroke her hair then picked up her and carried her back to the bed. They remained like that for some time until she finally calmed down.
“I-I’m sorry, Kagome.”
“What?” she asked as she lifted her head from his chest.
“I said I’m sorry… I… I took advantage of you…” his ears were flat on his head and he trembled slightly.
“Inuyasha, what do you mean?”
“I let you talk me into going further than I had planned on. I knew you were drunk and I tried to stop, I tried to stop you, but you were so persistent and I—I missed you so much, your scent was driving my instincts wild and—”
“Inuyasha,” she pressed a hand to cup his cheek which he leaned into. “I wasn’t—I didn’tuhm…honestly I’m embarrassed to say I don’t remember everything from last night. But I know you wouldn’t have taken advantage of me. I actually have never been with anyone before and the fact I was so desperate in the parts I do remember, I’m not surprised I made us have sex,” he opened his mouth but she pressed a finger to it. “Wait, I want to finish. The parts I do remember I know you made me feel alive, for the first time in years. Just like when we traveled together. I’m not sorry last night happened. I love you so much, Inuyasha. I always wanted to be with you. I had been waiting for you, trying to find you since the well closed. I-I just hope… you’d be willing to do it again while I am sober and that I didn’t ruin our chances at that...”
He nipped her finger lightly and she squeaked and pulled it back blushing like mad. “I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but…” she braced herself for him to tell her he regretted last night and that there would be no repeat. She couldn’t have said she would have blamed him. She had been stupid. She shouldn’t have been that drunk. She was seriously going to start a sober streak after today. Hopefully she could win him back…
“We actually didn’t have sex.” She blinked. Twice. Did she hear that right? They…did not? But why was…
“Why don’t you tell me what the last thing you remember, Kagome.”
“Uhm… you-you had just finished, uhm—” she blushed like mad, just remembering what his tongue had made her feel heated her up. She noticed he stiffened beneath her, sniffing the air, and he growled sexily. She tried to swallow but before she could, he had her pinned underneath him, lips pressed to hers hotly. She moaned from the contact and let his tongue enter her mouth while she used hers to reacquaint herself with those fangs. He pulled away and started kissing down her jaw rumbling deep in his chest as she struggled to breathe. Her body was in flames. Clearly, she was always going to burn with him. She was so hot, so needy, she had never wanted anything more than his mouth to go lower. She wanted to jump into the flames with him.
“Let me—refresh—your memory—Ka—Go—Me,” he said brokenly as he kissed all down her chest and took her nipple in his mouth. She mewled, gasped, moaned, she had no control her body or the sounds it produced for him. The alcohol had not been a source of fuel—her body and mind apparently craved him so much that any touch would send her over the edge. But she had zero cares about being so wanton because it seemed like it just egged him on more. She arched herself into his mouth and massaged his ears as he thoroughly refreshed her memory. After each of her breasts for fully loved, bitten, suckled, he continued his quest south. He knelt to the ground between her legs allowing the towel to drop as he gave her a teasing lick. Her hands latched onto his head, entwining her fingers in his hair while she moaned his name.
“Oh Gods, Inuyashaaaaaa!” her hips rocked in rhythm with his tongue, she was aching. Yes, she had this pleasure last night, but at that moment, she knew she would never get enough from him. Ever.
He pushed two fingers into her folds and started pumping in and out of her while the other hand reached up and started to knead her breast. His mouth found purchase on her sensitive nub and she about lost it right there with a desperate cry until he drew back—damnit!!! He’s a fucking tease!!!
“We stopped right after you came last night. You more or less passed out mumbling not to leave you again… Let me tell you something right now, wench…” he started pumping his fingers faster, harder, making her cry from pleasure but still not enough to release for him. “I have no intention of ever letting you out of my life again. We were born for each other, Kagome. I waited five-hundred years for this moment; and I was not going to mark you while you drunk out of your fucking mind. But Gods, did I want to, I’m struggling for control now.”
“Th-Then stop—take me—pleaseeeeee—ahhhhhh! Inu-Inuyasha please!”
“Don’t gotta ask twice,” he smirked his mouth engulfed around her jewel and sucked hard. She came hard crying out loudly, soaking his fingers and the edge of her bed. She didn’t get a moment to recover as he rose to his feet and steered her fully on the mattress then climbed over her. Their mouths locked and her legs swung and wrapped themselves around his hips while her arms swathed his shoulders. He lined himself up at her entrance but paused.
“Inuyashaaaa—” she whined pathetically.
“Do… you do know this is a ‘forever’ kind of thing…right? Demons, we don’t just go and do this with anybody… We either need to sire an heir…or we plan on mating forever. I won’t be able to stop my inner demon if we start Kagome—it has been screaming since last night to take you. Claim you. But—I know as a human, you need to know, that you will watch your friends die. Your family. Time will become almost nonexistent… Are you sure this is what you want? I—I am just so thankful to have you back. I want anything you want.”
“Inuyasha… if I’m with you, I will always be whole. I will never regret this decision. Four years was enough for me to know I could never be without you. I want to be with you… Always,” she reached up to cup his face and pulled him down for a tender kiss.  As their lips were locked, he pushed forward gently. She felt herself slowly being stretched but it felt so amazing to feel this complete, it overrode the slight pain and discomfort. She was so wet, it made it easy for him to slide in. She suspected he was restraining himself to not just shove himself fully in her. Or this felt completely overbearingly amazing. His face was pleasure ridden she couldn’t tell one reason from the other.
He rested his forehead against hers once he was fully sheathed in her. He was likely trying to control himself, but she refused to have any of that. She needed him. All of him. Demon, Human, Half. That wall of disbelief was shattered last night and almost lurked its ugly head back again when she had woken up—she was vulnerable and demanded to be filled by Inuyasha. This was real. He had come for her.
She bucked her hips causing them both to gasp and moan out their pleasure. He took his cue and began slowly driving into her. She met him thrust for thrust—encouraging him to go faster, deeper, harder. He gritted her name through clenched teeth, his fangs elongating. She reassured him by cupping his face then slowly moving her hands to stroke his ears. His growl vibrated her to the core, and he began to plunge in deeper and faster. She could barely keep her eyes open let alone not grasp his ears tightly; before she could have harmed his little furry appendages, she dropped her hands onto his shoulders, stabbing him with her blunt nails, no longer able to match his pace. She was just along for the ride and this was the best roller coaster she had ever rode.
She was mewling, crying out his name and probably a God or two, begging for more. She was so close. So close. She heard him cuss under his breath and opened her eyes see his purple strips present on his cheeks. She felt his claws prick her hips. He had finally lost whatever battle he had within himself. But his amber eyes shined through.
“I-I’m close, Kagome.”
“Me-Me too! Ah! God!”
“When I release, I’m going to mark you. Here—” he dropped his head and licked the junction of her shoulder and neck and pulled back up to make eye contact.
“Okay—Inu-Inuyashaaa, pleaseee…”
“Yea, Kagome? What do you want? What do you neeeed?” he purred.
She couldn’t articulate what she really needed—but she knew what she wanted. She knew one way to finish them both. She looked up to make sure he was watching as she let go of one of his shoulders and dropped her hand to rub her overly stimulated nub. He sucked in a breath and almost closed his eyes, but he looked too entranced to look away. His thrusts became harder and he resumed his previous pace before having paused to tell her about the mark. She cried out his name as her coil snapped, her core seized around him, pulling him in, trying not to let him go, milking him for all he had.
He roared her name as he came pulling her up to his mouth and bit down. She whimpered in pain but didn’t fight him. She wanted this. Craved this closeness. Absorbed his demonic aura into her body happily without hesitation.
He pulled his fangs from her first and swabbed the blood with his tongue then pulled out of her slowly. He released her hips and lowered himself back down to the bed gently next to her. She immediately closed the gap clambering to rest her head on his chest. He chuckled and wrapped his arm around her pulling her body close, leaving his hand on her bottom, stroking it gently.
“So… if we didn’t have sex last night…” she peered up to look him in the eyes. He placed a pillow under him so he was elevated so he could look down into her eyes with ease.
“We didn’t. I would have never take advantage of you when you were that far gone. Marking you and having explain everything after? Yea, if the beads still worked, I would have been sat to Berlin.”
“No, I wouldn’t have been mad, but—why was I sore between my legs when I woke up?”
“You were sore… Oh! I forgot! You wiggled your way out of my hold last night complaining about having to pee and you fell hard straddling the toilet. I came in but you shoed me out… I waited outside the door only to hear you fall in the shower—you’re lucky you didn’t bust your head open.”
“OH… God…” she covered her face with her hands. “Why you would still want me to mate with me after last night?”
“Kagome, when you came up those stairs you reeked of liquor and sadness, all I wanted to do was make the pain stop. Jiro said for the month you’ve lived here all you’ve done is drink yourself to sleep or cry. He said you refused to open-up and he didn’t want to push you in fear you wouldn’t let him learn who you really were. After hearing about your nightmares and everything else, it tore me up to know this was how you had been living… I thought it was best you decide on a future for yourself; I didn’t realize how much you would suffer alone like I had though, and I’m so sorry. I understood why you had been drinking the way you had.”
“Inuyasha, you didn’t know. It’s ok. We’re together now. That’s all that—wait a minute, how do you know Jiro?”
“You really don’t see it?”
“That he kind of looks like Miroku? Yes, I do. But I didn’t…how…I know you’ve lived for hundreds of years… I just have so many questions! What are you doing now? What—what happened from then to… now?”
“The short version is Sesshomaru and I run a technology cooperation together, he’s still Lord of the freaking West, regions are still divided into four. Two jackasses run East and South that I try to refrain from every having to interact with and Koga is head of the North. He mated Ayame, have a giant pack of little nasty flea-bags—” she elbowed him in the chest and he rolled his eyes. “We’re fine now. He’s mated. He actually doesn’t know I have been lookin’ for you. I can’t wait to see his face.”
“But he’s with Ayame now. Why would he be upset?”
“That dumbass wolf, even though he is mated to Ayame and is a loyal mate, has never given up looking for you. He still cared about you. Yes, he has grown to love Ayame and would never abandon her, but he was convinced I let you die… never heard the end of it. All this shit about he would have never allowed that to happen, how I let you down… not that he isn’t a total moron for thinking that but…”
She reached up and cupped his face and he kissed the inside of her palm. She crawled her way to lay on top of him and took his lips with hers. It was slow, loving, patient kiss. She tried to convey all her emotions, gratitude, love, longing, anything she felt to show how there was no anger or grudge she could have held.  Slowly the kiss turned more sensual, not that she was trying to start anything again, but Inuyasha was there, lying beneath her, naked, and she was fairly certain she felt a certain piece of anatomy poking her thighs. His wrapped his arms around her back slowly rubbing up and down until his hands found purchase on her ass and squeezed. He slowly rubbed himself on her and she moaned into his mouth allowing his tongue to reacquaint itself with her taste. She felt herself growing warm again and pulled away slightly gazing into his eyes. He stared back at her with all the love she had ever dreamed he would have for her.
Still breathing raggedly, she pressed as she started using her hips to aid his hands in their little dance of rubbing her core on his length, “What else?”
“Hahaha… you would be a talker… Sess’ and Rin mated when she was eighteen, I—we have three bratty nieces and one asshole nephew.”
She dipped her face to lick his nipple causing his breath to get caught in his throat, “Shippo?”
“Shippo is mated to some fox demon he met at the that stupid inn we went to. They’ve been mated for about three hundred years… Couple kids. Technically our grandkids—adopted—fuck Kagome—” She had bit his neck and started kissing up his jaw to his mouth again.
“I-I know they’re gone… but what about…”
“Miroku and Sango lived long full lives. Eight kids. Lech wasn’t exaggerating about wanting a big family. Kirara actually lives with me for now; she was traveling to each descendant of Miroku and Sango for a while. She still will visit them here and there—but they usually come to visit us because it’s easier that way. Family reunion shit. Ugh,” he grabbed her hips to steady her a bit. She knew she was teasing him, but to be fair, she owed him from keeping her so on edge last night and this morning. “J-Jiro is one of them, probably the closest to their original heirs—the story is passed down in the family and they just refer to me as ‘uncle’. J—God damnit you’re trying to kill me—” her hands were rubbing the base of his ears and she was dipping her wet opening just at the tip of him. She was impressed he was still talking as coherently as he was, but he was speaking extremely fast.
“I’m sorry? You got cut off… what about Jiro?” she smirked with another twist of her hips almost letting him in fully.
“Son of a—if this is the punishment I have to have, I guess I’ll take it,” he smirked back at her as he reached one hand between them and grabbed her mounds, fingers dancing before twisting and pinching her nipple. Her breath caught as he chuckled, “Jiro runs a dojo his family started years ago we helped fund. He technically works for me and we are as close as the monk and I were. He said he saw the pictures we took put up in your apartment yesterday and finally put two and two together—” he moved his over hand and started rubbing her jewel. She moaned and finally couldn’t take anymore torture and pushed back letting him be sheathed within her. He remained still for her to adjust—both panting having endured what seemed like hours of teasing. She finally tested to see what it be like to move forward and push back. HOLY. FUCK. RIGHT. THERE.
He sat up and she immediately grasped his shoulder raising herself up to push herself back down and didn’t expect to feel him thrust up. She gasped and withered from the sensation. She was already almost there. He was so hard she imagined he probably was too. But she didn’t care. She would’ve rode him all day. They had years of catching up to do. She remembered she was off all weekend too and mentally did a happy dance as she bounced up and down literally on his cock.
“Do that again,” he said huskily.
“Wh-what?”
“Touch yourself. I want to feel you,” he whispered into her ear, licking the shell and grabbing the lobe in his teeth.
She didn’t falter her pace and did as she was told. He leaned down and took her nipple in his mouth sucking, nibbling. She froze and crashed down on to him crying her release, trembling, holding onto him as she tried to ground herself. She felt like she was soaring through the skies like they used to do—traveling on his back. Free, carefree, just enjoying the scenery.  Together.
His hands on her hips guided her to lie back as he resumed their previous pace as she came down from her high. His mouth found her mark and re-pierced it with his fangs, sucking hard on her skin.
“Fuck!! INUYASHAAAAA—” she was already restrung ready to snap again when she felt him stiffen and grumble her name as he growled loudly letting himself go causing her to wail as she felt her walls crash down on his length buried within her. He crashed down on top of her, completely spent, head resting on her chest as she languidly brought her arms around him.
She was exhausted. She felt sleep edging its way faster and faster through her consciousness but she wouldn’t allow it to claim her yet. Four years. Over five hundred for him. She needed to be with him. She didn’t want the connection to be broken just yet. She swallowed and softly asked, “How are you here…? I mean, why haven’t I been able to sense any demons? It sounds like there are plenty around here…”
“Mmmmm,” he reached one arm up tilting his head to find the strand of hair his hand began to twirl through. “We have charms. Like the fuyoheki Naraku used. Made it easier to be less noticeable; blend in and have less trouble amounting power. The demon council that had been established knew we couldn’t keep killing humans who would wage war on us, and humans would never fully accept us. We often had to change identities, move to different countries for awhile until people who knew us and would have realized we didn’t age passed, but all in all it hasn’t been too hard to amount wealth and stuff. Make life more comfortable.”
“You never… you never took another mate?”
“Never found one I loved. You were always in my heart Kagome. Don’t be mad, but I did try. I really did because I knew you expect me to; but no one ever came close to how I felt about you. I told you for demons sex is just—different. Even though I am only half, my demon half refused to allow us to go around fucking anyone who gave me any attention. It only desired you. It knew you would be back… My human half recognized that too. My love for you made me refuse to move on…I also felt no need to sire any descendants of my own. I had Shippo. Adopted or not, he is our son.”
“I’m so sorry you spent all these centuries alone… It—it’s all my—” Inuyasha leaned up and took her lips to cut her off.
“Shut up. You won’t let me apologize for making you wait, then you aren’t allowed to blame yourself for being my mate.” She blushed hotly and averted eye contact. “Shippo is probably going shit himself when I tell him I found you.”
“What does he do now?”
“He’s actually a teacher—Chemistry. You know. Has a thing for burning shit and all,” he winked at her causing her to giggle.
Her phone began chirping from the living room. She groaned and patted his shoulder to move. He jumped off the bed after a quick peck to her temple, grabbed the phone and returned to lay by her side instantly. She had to blink to realize he had even actually moved before looking at the caller id. “MOM” it read. She answered, “Hello?”
“Kagome! I’ve been trying to reach you all evening! Are you ok? Your friends said you disappeared at the bar and they weren’t able to reach you either! Jiro didn’t answer his phone and someone has come by looking for you twice at the shrine! He wouldn’t say who he was, only that he was a friend! What is going on??”
“Mom, mom, calm down. I’m ok. I’m great actually.”
“Kagome—you had us so worried! We thought something happened to you!”
“Mom—I’m really fine. I promise. I—”
“Kagome this behavior has to stop! I’ve let it go long enough but—”
Inuyasha grabbed the phone from Kagome, “Mrs. Higurashi?”
“—enough—You! You were at my house yesterday!”
“Yea, I found her.”
“Kagome!!!!”
“Owwwwww—not so loud. Hurts the damn ears.” Kagome grabbed the phone back shaking her head at him and massaged the abused appendage.
“Mom, he is a friend… Well, more than that actually,” Inuyasha snaked the arm his head wasn’t propped up on around her waist.
“What do you mean Kagome? You said you haven’t been seeing anyone since you came back from the Feudal Era! Why didn’t you tell me the truth?”
“Mom, I didn’t lie. He found me. Yesterday. It’s Inuyasha,” he lowered himself to rest his head on her chest again as she stroked his ears.
“Kagome—Are—Are you sure??”
“Doggy ears and all,” she said with a giggle flicking the said appendage making him growl in annoyance.
“Oh my gosh! That’s wonderful news Kagome! So, when will you be getting married and giving me grandchildren? OH! Will they have his ears?!? Are you coming over tonight for dinner still?? Bring him!! I can’t wait to actually see him again without that disguise he was wearing!”
Inuyasha nodded yes to the question on Kagome’s tongue, “Uh—yes, we will be there tonight.”
“Ok my darling, have fun!” she could literally hear the smirk and wink from the phone. “Be safe—no grandchildren until after you’re married!”
“MOTHER!”
“Love you!” she heard a click and held the phone away from her. Completely mortified. Inuyasha snickered in response.
“Keep laughing dog-boy and you won’t have to worry about kids,” looking at her multiple missed calls and texts and quickly responding without being totally forthcoming to her friends.
“Right, as if you could hold out on me—don’t forget who had to be the one to tell you no,” his mouth engulfing her breast.
She sucked in her breath and shifted her hips a little, “Ah! Mk, you’re right.”
“Besides, not to be gross, but I can smell when you’re in heat.”
“That’s not surprising; if anything, it explains why you act the way you would. Extra moody and pushing me to go home because I was ‘bothering’ you,” she smirked realizing it wasn’t actually a lie. “Oh, the girls want to go out again tonight. They want to know who finally ‘met my standards’... But I think I’m gonna pass…”
He rolled his eyes as he trailed kisses up to her collar bone, neck stopping to lave her mark again, then made his way to her lips.
“We should go after dinner with your family,” he breathed on her lips.
“W-We? Y-You wanna go to a club? Really? But—I didn’t think you’d—”
“Keh, I think you forget I’ve lived five-hundred years since we last saw each other. My nieces, while they can kick anyone’s asses, all enjoy that scene. ‘Someone’ said one of us has to watch them. Protective Uncle is better than Asshole Dad. I’ll warn the fucks, Sess would just kill them. Also, not to make you jealous, but enough women I dated wanted to do that kind of shit… But there’s only one person I ever wanted to grind on,” he winked as he came back down to smoother her in kisses as she giggled.
“Uhm… Ok. I guess we can go. I’m sorry in advance if they bring Hojo.”
He laughed, “I’d actually love to kick that scrawny fuck’s ass if he tries anything while I’m there. But,” he started to rub his hands along her body, lingered on her curves and then settled for massaging circles in between her folds, “Why don’t you tell me what you’ve been up to Ka-Go-Me?”
She groaned internally. How could someone invoke such intense feelings out of a person? How could he make her so desperate with barely any effort?? After being fully dated multiple times already.
“College. Sucky roommate. Friends still pushy. Graduated. Nurse,” she informed through each kiss exchanged with their as he teased her.
“Heh, impatient are we?” he smirked down at her as she was already breathless. He leaned closer to her ear and whispered, “Why don’t we go shower together this time and then get breakfast?”
She nodded vigorously and he laughed as he edged off her allowing her to the lead the way…
At dinner, Inuyasha filled her family in on his five-hundred years between when he saw Kagome last to now. He apparently worked for Takashasi Enterprises and was directly under Sesshomaru as the COO. His identity was currently Yashiko Takahashi and went by “Yash”. She recognized the name immediately and was shocked how well-known he had been and she never realized it was him. But he told her that had been the point. He couldn’t risk his younger self ever catching whiff of him and his presence. He was, up until four years ago, opening the new branch of their company in Berlin to avoid them.
He had an apartment near where his work was but also owned properties around the world. He maintained his human disguise originally until Sota and her mother begged to see his ears again. It all had been so surreal… He was really there—eating dinner with them again, holding her hand under the table, he had given her his old haori when they stopped at his place to change before dinner, and she had decided to wear it over her cocktail dress she picked to wear for when they went to the club again. She realized she had never been happier. More complete. As she looked into Inuyasha’s eyes, her mate, her life, she realized the feeling was mutual.
Still debating on maybe a part 2? Epilogue? We will see
