Unlocking AI’s Potential: Practical Applications for Business Leaders

If you’ve been watching the rise of AI and wondering where it actually fits into your business, you’re not alone. AI is no longer a science experiment; it’s a working tool that smart leaders are using right now to improve customer engagement, automate routine processes, cut waste, and scale efficiently. This article walks you through current, real-world applications that show how AI delivers value today—without requiring a technical background or a massive budget.
Personalizing Customer Experience at Scale
When you tailor experiences to what your customers want, you don’t just keep them—you grow them. AI gives you the ability to respond faster and more precisely to customer behavior. You can use it to send individualized product recommendations, predict churn, or automate real-time support.
Marketing platforms are now embedding large language models to handle everything from ad copywriting to audience segmentation. Adobe’s new optimization tools, for example, use AI to match creative content with the right buyers. If you’ve got enough customer interaction data—clicks, purchases, time spent on site—you already have what’s needed to start testing AI-driven personalization. Even if your team isn’t technical, there are now user-friendly tools with no-code interfaces that help you launch campaigns and monitor results.
Automating What Slows You Down
Repetitive work wastes time, but it also demotivates your team. AI gives you the opportunity to eliminate that bottleneck. Whether you’re handling invoices, sorting emails, or pulling data from PDFs, there’s a good chance AI can do it faster—and without cutting corners.
Financial firms are already using tools like Hebbia to read thousands of pages of contracts and build financial models in minutes. You don’t need to be managing billions to benefit. You can apply similar logic to internal reporting, HR onboarding, or customer documentation. Start by identifying the tasks your team repeats daily or weekly. Then test automation tools that combine AI with rule-based workflows. You’ll likely discover you can repurpose time and attention for higher-value work.
Creating Habits That Stick
Getting your team to actually use AI means making it part of their routine. That won’t happen just by running a workshop. You need to make the tools accessible and tie their use to clear outcomes.
A great example comes from Whoop, where one product leader ran a program called “30 Days of GPT.” Every day, her team completed one small task using an AI tool. These weren’t major lifts—just tweaks to daily habits—but over time, usage jumped significantly. You can run a similar challenge inside your company. Use leaderboards, shoutouts, or even lunch rewards to gamify adoption. The key is to normalize experimentation and make AI less intimidating.
Making Operations Smarter
AI’s value isn’t just in shiny customer-facing tools. You can improve planning, logistics, and vendor coordination using AI to predict outcomes and spot issues faster than manual methods allow.
Companies like EXL are helping clients in manufacturing and consumer goods get clearer supply forecasts and cost projections using machine learning models. Meanwhile, Nvidia is enabling carmakers to simulate thousands of design changes across virtual test environments. That kind of power is available to you too—especially if you deal with complex inventory, logistics challenges, or rapid production cycles. You don’t need to be a tech firm to see the results; you just need to start with your most unpredictable cost center and build from there.
Improving Financial Forecasting
Your finance team probably spends hours modeling cash flows, risk, and revenue projections. AI speeds that up with real-time data ingestion and machine learning that improves as more data flows in. Whether you’re trying to prevent fraud or predict quarterly performance, AI helps eliminate human blind spots.
Mastercard is already using AI to detect payment anomalies in real time. On the budgeting side, software platforms now integrate AI to suggest reallocation opportunities based on current performance versus plan. If your spreadsheets are heavy and outdated by the time you present them, it might be time to test predictive finance tools. You’ll get fewer surprises—and more time to make adjustments before it’s too late.
Introducing Agentic AI
There’s a growing class of AI that doesn’t just react—it acts. These are called AI agents. They handle full workflows instead of isolated tasks. Think of them as interns who can learn your SOPs, follow instructions, and update documents, systems, and databases across departments.
Hebbia’s agent technology is already helping firms in private equity and legal services complete multi-step tasks that used to require junior staff. You might not need that level of complexity right away, but even deploying a simple AI agent to handle things like meeting scheduling, email follow-up, or document classification can help. You still review the output, but your involvement drops significantly.
Scaling Leadership Presence
As your company grows, you can’t be everywhere. AI avatars are now being used by executives to extend their reach without overloading their calendar. These avatars—powered by trained large language models—can participate in onboarding, respond to common staff questions, and deliver regular updates.
The idea may seem futuristic, but companies are already deploying these digital stand-ins in customer service and internal comms. You can start by recording a set of frequently asked questions or recurring presentations and train an avatar model on that content. It’s a smart way to maintain connection and consistency while staying focused on strategic decisions.
How to Start Using AI in Your Business
Identify one area where speed or accuracy matters most
Use existing data—make sure it’s clean and structured
Choose a tool with built-in AI that fits your workflow
Set a clear success metric like cost saved or hours reduced
Pilot on a small scale before expanding usage
In Conclusion
AI is already proving useful across departments—from marketing and finance to operations and leadership. You don’t need a massive team or budget to start. Focus on one area with a clear outcome, gather reliable data, pilot a small test, and reward usage. AI becomes real once it solves a problem you can measure.

Elevate: Training the Next Generation

The gym smelled of sweat and determination. The sound of sneakers squeaking against the polished wood floor mixed with the rhythmic bouncing of basketballs. It was another late evening practice, and the team was already exhausted. But Brock Gold 46 wasn’t done with them yet.
“Alright, listen up!” Brock’s voice echoed through the gym as the players caught their breath. “You think you’re tired? You think you’ve hit your limit? Nah. That’s just your mind lying to you.”
Some of the players groaned. The scrimmage had been brutal—fast-paced drills, full-court sprints, and defensive breakdowns. Sweat dripped from their jerseys, and legs felt like concrete. But Brock wasn’t here to let them settle. He was here to unlock something deeper.

He pointed to the hoop. “Who wants it?”
A younger player, Malik, stepped forward. He was quick, had good handles, but his confidence wavered under pressure. “I do, coach,” he said, chest rising and falling rapidly.
Brock smirked. “Alright then, Malik. You’ve been holding back all night. Let’s see if you can break through.”
The challenge? Dunk. Malik wasn’t the tallest, wasn’t the strongest, but Brock had seen the power in his legs. It wasn’t about height—it was about mindset, about pushing through the doubt.
The team gathered around as Malik took his stance. Brock crouched next to him, speaking low but firm. “You think you can’t? That’s the problem. You can. But you gotta take off like you mean it. Stop hesitating. Jump through it.”

Malik took a deep breath. He dribbled once, twice—then exploded forward. His feet left the ground, arms reaching high, but the ball smacked against the rim and bounced away.
“Again,” Brock ordered.
Malik gritted his teeth, stepping back to reset. The gym was silent now, the only sound his heavy breathing. This time, Brock clapped his hands. “Forget the miss. It doesn’t exist. Attack the rim like you own it.”
Malik nodded. He sprinted forward, took flight—and slammed the ball through the hoop. DUNK.

The gym erupted. His teammates cheered, slapping his back, hyping him up. Brock grinned and nodded. “Told you.”
The lesson wasn’t about dunking. It was about breaking past what you think you can’t do.
Brock turned to the rest of the team. “This? This is why we don’t stop at ‘good enough.’ You don’t know what you’re capable of until you push past the doubt.”
They weren’t just players anymore. They were warriors. And they were ready for whatever came next.

Giving back to the community isn’t just about teaching skills—it’s about building character, discipline, and confidence. Just like Malik pushed past his limits, every young athlete has the potential to become something greater. That’s what the Golden Army stands for: transformation, strength, and brotherhood.
Whether on the court, in the gym, or in life, the Golden Army is about pushing beyond limits, supporting each other, and striving for greatness. If you’re ready to challenge yourself, grow stronger, and become part of something bigger—join the movement.

Women, Work, and the Future of Japan: A Catalyst for Change
Japan's post-war economic resurgence was once driven by its distinct work culture, but this same culture has now transformed into a double-edged sword, imperiling the nation's future prosperity. Historically, Japan's collectivist ethos, rooted in the pursuit of "Wa" (harmony), fostered stability and cooperation, but in today's context, it often manifests as a rigid hierarchy where excessively long working hours are misconstrued as the pinnacle of loyalty and dedication. This has severe human consequences, including "karoshi" (death from overwork), plummeting birth rates, and a dwindling workforce.
The country's inherent risk aversion, stemming from a deep respect for tradition, hinders innovation, with the fear of disrupting social balance outweighing the benefits of progress. This is evident in Japan's struggles to keep pace with global technological advancements, particularly in software and artificial intelligence, leading to stagnation and erosion of its competitive edge. Furthermore, traditional workplaces prioritize visibility and seniority over merit, resulting in ineffectual leadership, misguided decision-making, and a brain drain as talented individuals seek opportunities abroad.
Recent government initiatives aimed at improving work-life balance and promoting sustainability offer hope, as do forward-thinking companies adopting flexible work arrangements to attract top talent. However, a profound cultural shift is necessary for Japan to reclaim its innovative forefront. This requires blending cherished traditions with the uncertainties of innovation, fostering an environment that encourages risk tolerance, creativity, and merit-based advancement. A gradual shift in societal values, emphasizing individual creativity alongside collectivist principles, is crucial, as are structural reforms in workplaces and educational institutions promoting meritocracy, flexibility, and lifelong learning.
Interwoven with these challenges is the complex situation of Japanese women, who face traditional expectations, societal pressures, and workplace demands that profoundly impact their lives and the country's future. The notion of "ikigai" (finding purpose in life) often narrowly translates to family devotion for women, leading to unfulfilled potential and stagnation. This results in low labor force participation rates, a persistent glass ceiling, and underutilized parental leave policies, placing an undue burden on women and threatening individual well-being and the broader social and economic landscape.
A growing pushback against these traditional expectations, marked by women-led startups, flexible work arrangements, and paternal leave initiatives, signals a tentative shift towards inclusivity. To truly empower Japanese women, however, a profound societal transformation is needed, involving a reckoning with outmoded gender roles. Education and awareness campaigns, alongside the promotion of male allies embodying modern masculinity, can challenge these norms. By celebrating the diverse contributions and aspirations of its female population, Japan can dismantle barriers, realizing the full potential of its women and securing a vibrant future for the nation. The path forward hinges on choosing between the status quo and a new trajectory that values, supports, and empowers Japanese women to thrive, ultimately determining the country's prosperity.
Japanese work culture is unsustainable (pigallisme, April 2024)

huh. weren't sash and ais supposed to be mirrors. I think I kinda stomped that out by giving her a semi-functional moral compass
#i mean its not like she dislikes killing because That's Bad!#killing whoever her witch desired was part of her contract so she doesn't really want to keep it up!!#she's also very sympathetic. very soft heart in a very cruel world#in kaiho's grief addled brain he was going to connect sash and ais as he connected leander & efrain#(vere doesn't have a backstory counterpart... so far. it was going to be efrain but leander has them already)#but that kinfa doesn't work when him and sash only have leadership and fighting skills in common lawl#well. i think it still works with sol & ais.. ais is a strange source of comfort for kaiho#very easy to connect him with sol who was kind of like his father figure. also both have similar personalities#even though sol was a bit ostentatious...

So if you login on to NanoWriMo and go to your home region, most of them have a discord or other off platform communication (and you can set one up if not!) join that before deleting your nano account.
ML's are volunteers who do not get paid and do not sign off on Nano announcements. If you're writing community is communicating off the Nano platform and you're not giving Nano money, there's no ethical reason you can't continue NanoWriMo and having/attending writing events without the organization. (There's also a lot of different software and spreadsheets that will do Nano like word graphs and trackers for you!)
The challenge has always been about taking time to prioritize your writing and finding community with other writers. The website has only ever been about facilitating that and we don't need them anymore.
Many ML's will still want to host events if there's an active community and can do so without supporting Nano ( but also be understanding to all that don't, they're volunteers anything they do is a courtesy not a duty) , and you can always host your own! "Meeting at such and such library at 2".
Don't let the shitty organization (which I think is like 2 people rn) and their bad decisions over the past few years take away our passion projects and communities! Nanowrimo belongs to everyone who has ever participated or has wanted to, not the website that just shared the name.
#nano#NanoWriMo#writblr#national novel writing month#ai#generative ai is plagiarism#plus the last years scandal thats a whole CW#i really hoped the leaderships changes after that were going to make things better#i mean i guess this is a better scandal to have in terms of harm but like the bar was in hell

the thing about work is that it's so so so important to have a coworker you can recommend anticapitalist books to. i'll get this union formed yet.
#i love brent because we had an entire discussion about the futility of people ever making ai truly sentient#and how the current push for ai is emblematic of larger issues at play in regards to how workers are seen by bureaucracy-focused leadership#and yet i talk about unions and he's immediately SO against them#like brent. king. you are literally 'i'm not a unionist but i believe in their beliefs' take my hand. i will show you the way.
