“Les amitiés particulières” 1964
I did these sketches almost two years ago. I still adore this story.

Les amitiés particulières / Special Friendships (1964)
Tumblr media
Director: Jean Delannoy
Stars: Francis Lacombrade, Didier Haudepin,  François Leccia...
A tale of the tender relationship between a twelve-year-old boy and the upperclassman who is the object of his desire. All set in the rigid atmosphere of a Jesuit-run school.
It is a movie adaptation of Roger Peyrefitte’s novel of the same name. I had the opportunity to read another novel of Peyrefitte called L'Exilé de Capri, which also had gay themes in it (actually most of Peyrefitte’s work contains gay elements as far as I know). I really liked the way it was written, if you like classics and old school literature I definitely recommend it, but from a contemporary point of view, I guess for most readers nowadays, which are not fond of the classics, it might definitely seem outdated, especially the emphasis on pederasty in his work.
The same could be said for this movie. It’s really vintage and outdated, which might be a plus for those who like that kind of movies, but in general I didn’t like its tragic undertones and I’m not all that supportive of the age difference between the characters. It’s a bit too much for me when one of the characters is as young as he was and although there weren’t any openly sexual scenes (that would definitely cross the line), I could see why this movie might be considered controversial by many.
Rating: 3/5

“Know this, if you want to ignore it again, our friendship is called love. Alexandre, you are not dead. You spent but an instant on the other shore. You are not a God. You are the boy that I am, you breathe in me, my blood is yours.
Later I will arrive back home. I will return with another seal and we’ll never be apart again.
Tomorrow, Alexandre, it is my birthday. It will be my first birthday that we will be together. You will always be there for all my birthdays.
It is for you that I’ll live my whole life.”
Other trans goes like this:
"You are not the boy of prayers and tears, but of my love, my hopes, my certainty. You are not dead; you have only crossed over, for a while, to the far bank. You are not a god, you are the boy I am, you breathe in me, my blood is yours. What I have, you possess. As we hoped and wished, we shall henceforth be together for ever, and it is my turn to say to you, ‘How splendid that is: always!’”
He drew near to the house. He would be entering it with a hidden guest who would never leave him. A new life was beginning for them. Today’s mourning belonged to the old one. Tomorrow was Georges’ birthday, the first birthday of Georges and Alexander. Tomorrow they would be fifteen.

Kaze to Ki no Uta & Les Amities Particulieres
The friendship that was so dear to us is in your hands, after having been in mine...
It means that we already live together, although separated.
Know it, if you wanted to ignore it again: our friendship is called love.

100 Minutes with Hagio Moto | NHK Documentary
Tumblr media
Nyaa
Like the title suggests, this is a 100-minute documentary piece on Hagio Moto, taking the form of a roundtable discussion. Subjects include Hagio and her personal life, discussion of her contemporaries of the 24-Year Group, inspirations such as Les Amities Particulieres, and a close look at a number of her key works including Thomas no Shinzou, Hanshin, Iguana no Musume, Otherworld Barbara and The Poe Clan.
Originally aired on NHK. Thanks to Jägermeister for raws. Also included is a complete Japanese subtitle file - any translator wishing to work on this can edit this directly and avoid the extensive work that would otherwise be involved in timing this sort of dialogue-heavy video.  Ripping credit to Jägermeister

Georges liked his laugh, his blue eyes, his black hair, and
the sprinkling of freckles which enlivened his countenance.
Such—he introduced himself — was Lucien Rouvère.

Whenever I see "death in Venice" I keep thinking that it bears a resemblance to Gilbert and the painter who flattered him for his extreme beauty. You should also talk about it
Hey Anon, thanks for you message.
That’s a great idea for a post, I already have some topics to write about, like, the similarities between “Death in Venice” and KazeKi, how Björn Andrésen inspired Takemiya to create Gilbert and much more.
We could turn this a series of posts here on the blog, “The Similarities between KazeKi and...”.
There's already a post about the similarities between Les Amities Particulieres and KazeKi being written, but I don’t know when It’ll be posted.
Thank you for your suggestion anon, I'd gladly write about Death in Venice.
What do you guys think? Would you like to read a serie of posts about movies/books/ manga & anime that are similar to KazeKi?
