Once March arrives, the weeks leading up to St. Patrick's Day see a celebration of all things Irish or even just green, but for horror fans, we know it's a time to revisit the campy exploits of the Leprechaun franchise. Whether you're a devout fan of the franchise or entirely new to its exploits, SYFY will make sure that your holiday is filled with the series' deadly adventures by airing a marathon of the films on March 17th. From the original 1993 film to prequels to sequels, the marathon will include a variety of entries from all corners of the franchise. The event will kick off at 12 a.m. ET on March 17th. The original film sees the supernatural leprechaun (Warwick Davis) seeking vengeance against a family he believes has stolen his pot of gold. While the first sequel in the series also earned a theatrical release, subsequent sequels were released straight to video, up through 2003's Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood. Leprechaun Origins attempted to reinvent the concept, replacing the wise-cracking figure with a more monstrous creature, which earned a limited theatrical release. Leprechaun Returns aimed to channel the success of the original films, serving as a direct sequel to the debut installment, featuring Linden Porco in the title role. ⚡️🍿🍿🍿🍀 #comiccon #spoilermagazine #news #losangeles #podcast #magazine #art #instagram #galaxy #film #tv #hollywood #feature #movies #fandom #graphicdesign #nyc #spoiler #comicconradio #comicbooks #leprechaun #warwickdavis #stpatricksday (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp2F-HFOqfx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Linden Porco Talks Taking Over a Horror Icon in Leprechaun Returns [Exclusive] [ad_1]

This is a hell of a year for horror. In particular, this year has been a record year for horror franchises that are making their comebacks very well received. Halloween is certainly the largest and perhaps the best example, but The Puppet Master: The Smallest Reich also brilliantly (and bloodily) revived…

Leprechaun Returns (2018)
Directed by SFX guy Steve Kostanski that rocked the world when he directed The Void. Well everybody needs a pay day right?
The issue with the new Leprechaun film is ... it's not that bad.. infact it is pretty good.  When you are taking over an existing franchise you have to rock it off its ass or you have to be so bad that at least everyone will talk about it. After so many years of Warwick Davis playing the evil killer Leprechaun fans were pretty upset that he was being replaced due to SyFy network budgets. However honestly Linden Porco did a pretty good job. His witty banter was funny and well timed even if it did sound like they were tweaking his voice to sound like an impression of Warwick.  When the young people are getting killed the Leprechaun the film is also pretty dead on with creativity and good spills of blood. I cant say much for the teens as actors as some of them felt like victims of the time and maybe not the best script.
Maybe the issue is people's expectations or maybe its going back to 80s/90s comedic horror is hard to go back to. It's not dick / shit and shock jokes like most comedies of now and it is also not dry and dark like most horror of now. So maybe the audience just doesn't get it ... OR maybe the negative reviews I read when it first aired on the SyFy network in December were just assholes on the internet. I am not sure. My fav of the franchise is part 4 in space  and it is honestly just stupid and ridiculous. Everyone these days talk about Leprechaun BACK 2 the Hood. I am sure people talk about that just because of the title and they never actually say it because Back 2 the Hood is much weaker than “In the Hood” and Warwick seems pretty tired by that movie. This new simpler sequel brings a lot more life and simple “just do it” attitude. It is pretty basic.. a bunch of teens go to fix up the old run down house from the first movie and reawaken the monster... etc etc.. you know how it goes. Yeah it feels more like a generic slasher sequel (which to me is a good thing). Some are drunks, some are bitches and some are jocks trying to get laid so your not morning too much when they are killed. About half the cast is pretty unlikeable and has some pretty weak ass dialogue but thats never stopped me from loving a comedic slasher before anyways.  Definitely some of the cast screams of trying too hard but the other half of the cast are not that bad ( however not good enough to make up for the annoying ones, I am not pointing fingers though).

I guess people had so much love for the franchise... who knew? As in the long run this was a tv special spin off that to me just spends too much time referencing similar horror films (Army of Darkness jokes and Ghostbuster winks) . I really wish there was not a “film student character” I am super tired of those characters as only film geeks can relate or else you just gotta mock the guy. So it makes nerds like me self hate I guess ... c'est la vie... I am thinking waayyyy too deep into this movie.
I like Steve the director. Met him a few times and even “borrowed” a prop from him for one of my DIY movies (I won’t say what it was though). So maybe I am bias but you can tell this was a easy job for fun and he made it fun for himself while still showing his talent of ripping out stomachs and squashing heads with a funny little green demon.  It just came out on DVD and well its worth owning cause it is usually really cheap, but I would say it was more of a rental. Its no pot of gold but it is a good cheap laugh and I would love to see more simple dumb fun movies getting funded like this more... but I am a sicko who really loves Pumpkinhead 2 Blood Wings, so what do I know.

Horror Movie Review: Leprechaun Returns (2018)
Horror Movie Review: Leprechaun Returns (2018)
Following in the footsteps of Halloween, this new entry in the long running Leprechaun series is not a reboot but a sequel to the original movie and that one alone. Every single movie after the 1993 horror has been retconned, especially the poor attempt to reboot it in 2014.
It’s a bit of a shame as there were some entertaining entries over the years but I would be lying if I wasn’t a little…

Leprechaun Returns will act as a direct sequel to the first film, the Leprechaun won’t be the only character to return this time around. Ozzie – the affable goofball – will be back with Mark Holton reprising his role. And for this new chapter, the Leprechaun – a character originated by the legendary Warwick Davis – will be played by Linden Porco (Channel Zero). Releasing December 11, 2018. The new installment in the Leprechaun franchise ignores the previous sequels, picking up 25 years after the events of the 1993 cult classic. Steven Kostanski (The Void) directs from a script by Suzanne Keilly (Ash vs Evil Dead).
Linden Porco (Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block) fills the Leprechaun shoes of the titular role, originated by Warwick Davis. Taylor Spreitler, Pepi Sonuga, and Sai Bennett star, with Mark Holton reprising his role as Ozzie from Leprechaun.

My Ranking of the Leprechaun films from worst(8) to best (1)
8- Leprechaun Origins: This was just bad...the story was bad. The characters were bad. The makeup effects were bad...and you hardly ever get to see the "Leprechaun" and when you do get glimpses, it looks more like the cave creatures from The Descent than the Leprechaun. Not one of WWE's best films
7- Leprechaun 4, In Space: bad acting, weird story, and the fact that the word "Leprechaun" is never uttered in the entire film. I know some fans of the series have "grown" to like this one and some consider it in the top, but its a "no" from me. It was just awful.
6- Leprechaun 3: This film takes its setting in Las Vegas, while I'd say its the funniest of the series, its just not good. The kills are creative and I thought the story was decent, though.
5- Leprechaun 2: Interesting story, but the female lead is so annoying. The kills are pretty good.
4- Leprechaun Back 2 tha Hood: Not as good as the first 'Hood' but still a pretty good installment in the series. Interesting story and characters, but as with all if not most of the Leprechaun films, the production is lacking
3- Leprechaun: the original. Great story, decent characters, decent jokes and decent kills.
2- Leprechaun In the Hood: I really liked the characters in this film and the story. Also Lep smoking weed with Ice T is a great scene.
1- Leprechaun Returns: I absolutely loved this movie. The kills were great, it was updated perfectly to today's culture. The jokes were hilarious and I really like having the connection to the initial film, which I felt the other films in the series lacked. I also really like the makeup done to the Leprechaun and even though I love Warwhick Davies, Linden Porco did a fantastic job in the role. He perfectly matched Davies portrayal of the character.

The Leprechaun in ‘Leprechaun Returns’ ‘Memba Him?!
Canadian actor Linden Porco is best known for playing the killer leprechaun — who still wants his gold back and slays a group of sorority sisters after being brought back to life from the well — in the 2018 OG sequel “Leprechaun Returns.” Even… from TMZ.com https://www.tmz.com/2021/03/17/linden-porco-leprechaun-returns-then-and-now-no-makeup-photos-primary/

Leprechaun Returns The leprechaun is back but this time we're Halloween 2018'ing it (anything can be a verb if you try hard enough) and ignoring the sequels and making a direct follow up to the original. Unfortunately Warwick Davis chose to sit this one out but Mark Holton is back as Ozzie so that's something, I guess. Listen, this is a Syfy Original movie if you think they can afford Jennifer "I make a million an episode on Friends" Aniston then you probably shouldn't be around sharp objects. I mean I guess if I was making that kinda money and was STUPID rich then like it might be kinda fun to take on bullshit projects for the fuck of it but I get it, it is the movie BUSINESS after all. Get that money Jen. Now while "Syfy Original" doesn't inspire much hope and Leprechaun Origins made me want to stick my dick in a meat grinder, this was directed by Steven Kostanski, member of Astron-6 and director of The Void and most recently the awesome Psycho Goreman so this could go either way and honestly I think your enjoyment is gonna depend on how you approach this sequel. If I watched this along with my full run through of the franchise, after the back to back stank of Back 2 Tha Hood and Origins I would have appreciated this a lot more. However I had just watched the hilarious Psycho Goreman not too long ago so I couldn't help but be a little let down. It's not nearly as funny as the director's previous work with Astron-6 nor is it the serious horror of The Void. It's perfectly OK. While Warwick Davis is missed, though Linden Porco is a fine substitute, it's the gorey SFX kills that really stand out and make this worth watching. Even though as great as they are I do wish they were slightly more creative and utilized the Leprechaun's magic like in part 2 when that dude stuck his face into a lawnmower cuz Leprechaun made him think they were a pair of big mommy milkers. My lack of enjoyment is probably my own fault though, I shouldn't have expected so much from the Leprechaun franchise. I was hoping the director could elevate the material but I should have just kept my expectations low cuz there is plenty to enjoy if you don't care as much. That's my bad. https://www.instagram.com/p/CMc8HPpl7TY/?igshid=1j71bvvcc0yst
