Going for gold: Canada roars back to beat U.S. in world junior semifinal
Canada is one step away from its 20th gold medal at the world junior hockey championship.
Adam Fantilli scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and Thomas Milic was outstanding in making 43 saves as the tournament hosts fought back from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the United States 6-2 on Wednesday in another emotional matchup of the bitter international rivals.
Joshua Roy had two goals, including one into the empty net, and two assists for Canada, while Connor Bedard and Logan Stankoven each scored once and set up another. Brandt Clarke had the other goal, while Fantilli added an assist for a two-point night.
Czechia beat Sweden 2-1 in a thrilling overtime to also qualify for Thursday's final.
Logan Cooley and Kenny Connors replied for the Americans, who will play the Swedes for bronze. Trey Augustine stopped 31 shots for the U.S.
TSN's complete coverage of the world juniors
Canada, which advanced to face the Americans thanks to Bedard's incredible individual effort in a dramatic overtime victory against the Slovaks in the quarterfinals, dropped a 5-2 decision to Czechia in an embarrassing tournament opener.
Expected to go high at the 2023 NHL draft — but also largely overshadowed at the men's under-20 event by the breathtaking Bedard, the presumptive top pick in June and world junior scoring leader with 23 points in six games — Fantilli started the tournament on the second line, but was pushes to the fringes of the roster as the showcase progressed.
After the Canadians fought back to tie the score 2-2 early in the second, he scored his second goal of the event off a terrific feed from Zach Dean to ignite a red-clad Scotiabank Centre.
Milic made a terrific stop on Jimmy Snuggerud off a 2-on-1 to keep Canada, which won its 19th gold at the pandemic-delayed summer tournament, in the driver's seat.
The U.S. appeared to tie it at 6:22, but Jackson Blake's goal was overturned following a coach's challenge for goaltender interference.
Augustine then denied Dylan Guenther in alone at the other end, but Roy scored his fourth on a backhand at 12:20.
Olen Zellweger hit the post on a Canadian power play before Milic stopped Connors on a short-handed break.
Rutger McGroarty looked to have made it 4-3 just 38 seconds into the third, but Canada once again correctly challenged for goaltender interference.
Milic made four huge saves on a U.S. power play that also included McGroarty chiming a shot off the post.
The Americans had their neighbours on the ropes as the period wore on, but Fantilli set up Clarke for his second at 9:45 for some much-needed breathing room.
Roy iced into the empty net on a U.S. power play with 3:15 remaining to send the Canadians to Thursday's final as fans chanted "We Want Gold" at Scotiabank Centre.
Canada, which came in losers in five of its last six meetings with the U.S., including the finals of both the 2017 and 2021 tournaments, had a terrible start Wednesday.
Cooley, second in tournament scoring behind Bedard, broke the ice 1:19 into the first when he swept home a loose puck for his sixth.
The U.S. led 9-0 on the shot clock before Canada tested Augustine and came close when Luke Hughes hit the outside of Milic's post before going up 2-0 at 10:30 when Connors banged home a rebound for his second.
Bedard, who set five national or tournament records in the quarters, responded at 11:49 after the Canadians — poor against the Slovaks in the faceoff circle and even worse early Wednesday against the Americans — won an offensive zone draw and took a nice feed from Ethan Del Mastro in front to make it 2-1.
Stankoven got the hosts back on level terms 57 seconds into the second on a scramble.
Fantilli hit the post on a power play, but wouldn’t be denied later in the period before Milic stopped a Chaz Lucius breakaway.
AMERICAN PRAISE
U.S. head coach Rand Pecknold was asked before the game what stood out about Canada’s star-studded roster that features seven first-round picks — including three NHLers — plus Bedard and Fantilli.
"Talent, talent and more talent," Rand said. "They've done a great job developing players."
CZECHS FOCUSED
Czechia will have to pay close attention to Bedard, but forward Gabriel Szturc said his team knows there’s more to the Canadians than just the dynamic forward.
"Every player on Canada is very good,” Szturc said. "You can't say, 'Hey, you have to play only against Connor Bedard.'"
NO CHATTER
The Michigan Wolverines of the NCAA were well-represented Wednesday with five combined players taking the ice.
Fantilli suited up for Canada, while Hughes, Rutger McGroarty, Gavin Bindley and Dylan Duke were in the U.S. lineup.
There just hasn’t been much chatter.
"I stuck to my word,” McGroarty said when asked if he’s been in contact with Fantilli throughout the tournament. "I haven't texted him at all."
Hughes echoed those sentiments.
"Radio silence."
Now Fantilli has world junior bragging rights.

Wedding – The days before
June 10th
We began laden with more luggage than we could carry, but due to delays, we arrived with only our carry-ons. We WERE, however, greeted at baggage claim by Jake and Ciera, which was a lovely surprise!- even if travel exhaustion kept the outward enthusiasm levels low.
After sorting the luggage issue and securing our rental car, we went hunting for some Good Unhealthy American Food. The only place left open was Pickle Barrel, and we got some shockingly massive sandwiches (and ate a shocking amount of them) before collapsing into our little bed.
-
June 11th
It was surreal to be back, and surreal that we were back for our wedding!
We woke up early (not by choice) and did errands. Seeing how wide the roads are really blew our minds! A single intersection was far wider than any part of the Autobahn. SO much wiggle room! And even Bozeman itself was sprawling. Huge parking lots took up a lot of space, but even outside that, everything was just so far apart. There is certainly no real alternative to owning a car there.
We went to Walmart and again were blown away by how much STUFF is there. Like obviously we KNEW. But even just a couple years gone was enough to desensitize us to the variety of it all. It was honestly kind of exciting! I do very much appreciate the German ways of living and overall consumption but damn, it was nice to walk into one store and get absolutely everything we needed.
A small stop to get a temporary SIM card for my phone since neither of ours worked at all, and then lunch time!
We went for beers and fries with Jake, Ciera, and Blake (suppsed to be John too, but he got a flat tire). It was so nice catching up with everyone again! Blake is doing well with Shakespeare in the Park, and Jake and C are on their usual adventures- this time Jake is firefighting in Missoula.
Then, off to drinks with Logan, Jesse Mundt, and Kaleigh at a cool new place in an old barn. It’s fixed up really nicely and has a huge selection of mostly local beers. Jesse is just as silly and giggly as always, Logan is just as sweet, and Kaleigh was fun to meet too. We all laughed a lot and I nibbled around some chicken in the table’s nachos before we headed to our third socialization of the night: BBQ at John’s.
I didn’t know anyone there except for him, but everyone was so incredibly friendly (is this what it was always like in Bozeman??) and there were also some very cute dogs there. We had some veggie kebabs and tacos and sat around a fire and it was a gorgeous sunset. We chatted with someone who went to our high school (I kind of recognized her) and found out she had her own clothing store on Main Street! John and a few others run the farmers market, and everyone was just very all around successful and happy. They seemed like such a lovely tight knit group of friends to have.
-
June 12th
At long last, the event we had been wholeheartedly looking forward to, dreaming of in vivid detail for years now… breakfast at Jam!!
We went with Blake, C, and Jake, and it was exactly as heavenly as we had remembered it being. We split an omelet and some cinnamon pancakes and it was indeed my favorite meal of the trip. Mimosas, great food, lots of laughter. Perfect morning.
Then, we picked up Jesse Mundt and Wesley for an ambush mission to Butte. We were going to find Daniel. It all seemed to go well, but he seemed kind of uncomfortable and by the end still was non-committal about coming to the wedding. Which, to me, was more disappointing than him just straight up saying no. Instead of writing about him again later, I will give a spoiler and say that he did not come. He didn’t even tell you he wasn’t coming. He just went silent and didn’t show up. He didn’t ever say congratulations, and he didn’t ever say sorry. You haven’t heard from him since we drove to see him. And it makes me so angry. I know that he’s your friend, and this is your pain, and you’re not as angry as I am. He probably has something going on in his life. But I find it inexcusable to ghost a friend like you. You don’t deserve that. I’m sorry that your friend did that to you.
So. We will move on. Much more to cover.
In fact, that very night, we went to dinner with Haley and her girlfriend(? I don’t know actually I just assumed) Audra! It was sooo good catching up and so fun that you finally got to meet her! Yummy Mexican food and margaritas and old funny stories. I’m so proud of her and I. We really went through it with that shitty family (her especially) and have really come out on top. It took a lot of courage and strength and endurance and we did a lot of growing and WE MADE IT. I’m so happy she could be there with me, for such a landmark of an event <3 It wouldn’t have been right without her.
But then, another downer. Moriah tested positive for covid. She may not make it. Technically, her quarantine was up before the wedding but… we just had to wait and see.
In better news, Caiah texted me back! I had noticed her watching my stories for a while and just decided to reach out to tell her I was thinking about her and I loved her. And she responded! She said she loved me too and misses me! I didn’t push it any farther but I am so happy to even have gotten that.

June 13
A busy errands and prep day. We did our first venue visit to drop of the deposit. There’s some severe flooding happening on Yellowstone and so water levels are high everywhere and we were mildly concerned about the creek levels, but no one else seemed worried so I chose to trust their judgment. It wasn’t set up the way it would be for our wedding yet so it was hard to get a full idea, but even in the rain and gloom it looked like it would turn out really nicely! It’s such a pretty space, I’m so happy we went with it.
I found out from dad that mom had moved just this past weekend. I messaged her to get the new address, and she left me on read. So there goes my plan to drop in and see her. And if she won’t give it to me, that means I can’t keep sending Cate gifts. I don’t really know what to do. There are so many emotions happening this trip, and there’s no real time to process any of them.
More errands, quick dinner, and an early bedtime.

June 14th
Woke up to the fantastic news that the boat guy paid us off! All of it at once! Makes no sense to me but whatever man. Perfect wedding gift!
Today was our extra luxurious spa day. We went to The Loft downtown, and though very expensive, it was worth it for this. We got to use the steam room, which was the first I’ve ever used, and I loved it way more than I expected. I don’t really like dry saunas but this was completely different. It was like getting cleansed from the inside out, and it felt so wonderfully hydrating. Next was our 90 minute couples massage. I wanted mine to be relaxing so I asked for a little less pressure which felt nice but probably didn’t do me much good, and you wanted to unknot your muscles which made it far less relaxing for you but definitely helped you out in the long run. You said you could stand up straight without pain for the first time in ages. I’ve been trying to get you to have them more often.
Then, my favorite part- 45 minute facials! It felt SO incredible and included head, shoulder, and arm massages too. It was absolutely blissful. It went by so quickly I almost would have thought they didn’t go the full time allotted if it weren’t for how shockingly late in the day it was by the time we emerged from the lowlight of the spa. We were deliciously relaxed, and decided to top it all off with some uswirl.
Turns out, my dad had just landed! He was in the area so met us in the parking lot we were at. It was so nice to see him again! It’s been so long. AND for him to finally meet Robert. We chatted in his car for a little bit but we all had other people to meet, so it was short and sweet. He also agreed to give Cate’s gift to her for me, which made me feel a lot better.
Next we were off to Pray, to meet your family. The flooding had put a few bridges out of commission but Susan and the crew found a way there so we all began the migration to the house. We got there pretty late but were greeted by Grandpa Bob, Aunt Gail, Barb, Susan, Charlie, and of course little Daisy Mae! Drew, Eliza, and their littles arrived after us. I love watching you interact with your family, I remember the warmth and familiarity of that. And little Robert just loved you to death, and even made a buddy out of me by the time bedtime rolled around! A full evening with many reunions.
June 15th
Had a nice low key morning at the house with everyone. Breakfast and rotating chairs and conversation. Being around family like that really made me miss mine though. It really began to set in that none of them would be at our wedding. My mother was in the same town and would not speak to me. I would not get to have pictures with her and Cate on this most important day. New pictures, updated pictures of the RIGHT day. They were only at first wedding- the sad wedding, the wrong one. I would never have wedding pictures with my whole family who I loved so much, my family who used to have such joyful reunions like the ones I was at with yours right now. It felt like this with them too. I would have never guessed I could be dropped so easily, forgotten. I may not see any of them again. I almost certainly won’t see my grandparents again. All without saying goodbye. An unceremonious dumping.
And on top of that, Moriah can’t come. The closest thing to that family I have.
I really tried to keep it together, I did. I didn’t want to shift attention to me and MY family when it is a day for you and yours. But it really started to overwhelm me, and when Susan caught my eye as I was tearing up I really couldn’t help it anymore. Thankfully, only she and Drew knew, and you, of course. I was so grateful to have our little cabin to retreat to. You followed me with the pizza I had been reheating, and wine, and held me as I sobbed. It had just all gotten to me.
And, you told me that we would see Moriah no matter what, and if she couldn’t come to us, we would go to her.
I love you so much.
An hour later, I was cleaned up and changed and only mildly embarrassed. We were off to our “engagement” photoshoot! The package with our photographer came with one and because of the geographical situation it just became a fun little pre-wedding session. I wore the dress that was originally going to be my wedding dress, before I saw The Pink Dress of my dreams and you convinced me to go ahead and get that one. We went to the Cherry River access point at golden hour, and met Stephanie.
I was nervous, since having pictures of myself is just not my thing (yours either). But Stephanie was so nice and she made it so easy and fun it just felt like running around and playing in a field with you! There was a lot of laughing and a lot of kissing and twirling and running and being absolutely thrilled to be told to cuddle each other as closely as we could. No matter how the pictures turned out, it was already such a happy memory.
The sun set, and we headed back to Pray.
It had been quite the day of emotions (the whole trip, really!) and I pretty much just contentedly zoned out while you jumped in on the mystery game that your family was playing until we went to bed in our cozy little cabin.
-
June 16th
A day devoted to family time! We began the day by going thrifting in Livingston with Gail, Laura, Ben, and Barb (most of the other guys went golfing). Our first stop was a secondhand shop where they were selling books for just $1 each! I got as many as I thought I could wedge into my suitcase (and probably more). Robert and I wandered into a gorgeous photo gallery with massive black and white prints of Montana cowboys and Native Americans. Our favorite was of two little girls- a white girl in a ballerina outfit, and a native girl in her regalia- standing next to each other and staring into the camera. No attempt to be intentionally cute, but really showing their personhoods. I loved it. We got to chat with the photographer a bit too, and he was very nice.
On to a pawn shop, where I found a really cool tasseled leather jacket (very 80s shaped) and you found a signed photo of Bill Guarnere! (Easy Company, WWII- of Band of Brothers fame).
Had a nice little lunch in the sun (treading uncomfortably close to vaccine arguments) before heading back to the house.
There, we sat on the porch and chatted, sipped drinks, and eventually moved out onto the lawn for the most idyllic golden hour. I was stretched out on the grass with Susan, Eliza, and Emily, and you played baseball with Drew and Charlie- the kids drifting in and out between the groups, occasionally darting inside to grab a snack. With the big cabin and the sweeping green hills leading up to the towering mountains bathed in gold, it was a very Norman Rockwell type of sight.
Gail gave everyone a very generous gift after making us all dinner. We will be using it to visit her soon.
A few cutthroat rounds of Uno (those Fosgate kids are brutal!) and then we had to pack up and head to our next AirBnB back in Bozeman. We would be meeting Leanna and Antonio there. It was really late and hey got there shortly before we did, all the way from Arizona. We got a quick hello in with Leanna before we all crashed for the night.
-
June 17th
What. A. Day.
I woke up and realized that I was quite sunburned on my shoulders. Perfect timing, of course. I added aloe to the shopping list.
We began with a breakfast at Nova café with Leanna, Antonio, Jordan, and Britta! It was SO good to see everyone! And then, you had a surprise for me: When I cried to you that I had found out my mom donated all of my old beanie babies, you immediately started posting on facebook and calling thrift shops in the area. Eventually you found one and they knew my mom and recognized what delivery you were talking about! Unfortunately most of them had been bought already, but there were two left. You paid Britta to go get them, and then you had them restored! All leading up to this moment at the breakfast table, where I opened a package with my beloved Fudge and Pounce inside- two of my earliest babies. I immediately started crying. It may seem like a small childhood thing but they truly did mean so much to me and I had been devastated to know my mom got rid of them like they meant nothing. You understood this, and put in incredible amounts of effort into getting them back for me. I treasure you so much, and I’m overjoyed to have them back, and I am just so thankful. For everything.
-
We had errands to run, so Jordan came with us and Britta was going to meet us at Hobby Lobby to find some last minute things with us.
At a stoplight, as I was looking at my phone, you suddenly said, “That’s your sister”
I couldn’t process what you just said.
“Babe! That’s your dad and your sister!”
They had crossed the road in front of us on bikes and were about to turn a corner.
Stunned, I finally said “We have to follow them”
As soon as the light turned green you sped ahead to switch lanes and turn where they did. Heart in my throat, we scanned the roads for them.
And there they were.
They were on your side of the car, so you rolled down the window and called my dad’s name. They heard, and Cate saw me, and she smiled and I heard her say, “Allison!”
We pulled into a parking lot and I got out of the car and a wave of relief washed over me as I saw Cate walking up to me with arms open and a big smile on her face.
She was so tall. Almost as tall as me now. So grown up. Braces and painted nails and that posture that every teenager has. I have missed so much. But her eyes are the same. It was surreal looking into them and seeing the tiny little girl I used to know in them contrasted with who she is today. I love her so much- then and now, and everything in between that I missed.
We didn’t know where to start at first. Of course, that we had missed each other. I held her hands and asked her how she was, how was her time with dad, what were they doing… I found out she still likes cooking, and she has a bearded dragon!
But then I held her and I told her all the things I had been worrying about, that I needed her to know. I told her I loved her and was so proud of her no matter what she does or believes. That I will always, always be there for her. I asked her how she felt, if she was angry or anything. She said no, that she never had been. I told her I hoped that she understood that I didn’t make my decisions like they were a choice between her and another life that I just had to be honest and do what I believed in. She said she knew. I told her that I always wanted to hear from her, that our door was always open, that she could even live with us in Europe if she ever wanted to! That made her laugh. I told her that I would keep sending her things and writing her letters but that I wouldn’t reach out any other way because I didn’t want to step on her or moms toes, but I would ALWAYS be thrilled and respond if she ever reached out to me. I told her when our wedding was and that I would always be happy to have her there. She said she knew, but that I knew what she believed in…. I said that I did, I believed in it too for 22 years, and she didn’t have to explain a thing to me. I just wanted her to know. I told her over and over that I love her and always will, and was so proud of her no matter what she does. We hugged each other and cried for a long time.
I asked her if I could take a few pictures, and she said yes, so now I have pictures with my sister for the first time in years. I am so thankful.
A tearful goodbye, and then back into the car.
I felt dazed, like I was dreaming I couldn’t process what just happened.
It really was the best case scenario. It couldn’t have gone any better, really. And all by chance. All luck. Thank you, Fortuna, or Tyche, or whatever made that happen. I am so thankful. So thankful.
-
I had to go shopping after that! I felt like I was just hazily floating through the store. Thankfully Britta and Jordan were there to help me out (since seeing Cate had been an unexpected detour, you and I split up to cover more ground before the rehearsal).
Three more stops including fixing my nail (I got my nails done earlier in the week and they were already peeling) and buying several forms of sunburn care. Then a rush back to the airbnb, hello to Shayne and Logan! And then we all rushed off to Bodhi for the rehearsal.
-
Rehearsal went quickly. Now that we were practically on top of the date I had detatched myself from any further decision making or worry and was just going with the flow. We decided who was sitting where and where we would start walking from and who would hold my bouquet and how we would do the rings and which way we would face, etc. It was a strange group of friends trailing along behind us like slightly confused ducklings, and Shayne was grumpy for whatever reason, but I was still glad to have everyone there. And even gladder to head back to the Airbnb.
But not before ice cream! I finally got to have my favorite coriander flavor again! Just as good as I remember.
-
Back at the house and on to the last minute wedding DIY. Britta braided a beautiful cord for our rather spontaneous hand fasting ceremony. Robert and I finalized the seating chart as much as we could, and then I wrote two lists of everyone coming so that Jordan and Shayne could write the place cards for everyone. We poured wine and ordered pizza as more and more people showed up. We ended up with a group of Britta, Shayne, Leanna, Antonio, Logan, O’Rourke, Jordan, Christian, Meredith, and Lizzie! Robert and Logan had to go out to chase the pizza (and good whiskey) down, and came back with it to rounds of cheers. We scooted furniture around until we had a good little circle with the pizza in the middle, and played We’re Not Really Strangers, which is a fantastically honest game and right up my alley. I can’t tell you how good it felt to have a room full of my family all together and talking and laughing like that. It was really the part I had been looking forward to the most all these years. Maybe some people found it awkward to be so intimate with near strangers (for some of them), I don’t know. But I think the mood was good. I was happy. Even if my story is messy, I can only trust them all to love me for it anyway.
It was late, and we had to wake up early, and there was still details to hash out with Logan’s speech. So we shifted to that, and everyone started heading home, until we went to bed. I wouldn’t have thought I’d be able to sleep much, but the emotional and busy day- week, really- had worn me out. I don’t remember falling asleep.

The Sanders Sides Superhero AU no one asked for!
Anyway this was heavily based off that one post about low and high empathy heroes and villains, I’ll link it in a rb because Tumblr’s being weird again
And now for the AU...
Patton (Delirium):
Empath
Colour-changing eyes as a slightly disturbing side effect
fed up with feeling other peoples' feelings
not sure where the lines between him and other people are
will draw lines himself
physical and mental ones
he doesn’t like touching people because that’s when it gets really intense.
if drawing the line involves people dying…oops
it’s the domino effect! (ft. emotional manipulation!)
that way, it gives him time (for what? guess.)
as well, kiss-healing
He doesn’t do this very often
it feels like an invasion of privacy
(he has standards!)
wears a flower crown
goes to the same high school as Virgil and Roman but pretty unpopular
Martha Dunnstock + Jenna Rolan - gossip
nearly 18
has a love-hate relationship with Roman
very very jealous of Logan
thinks Virgil is Misguided and Could Be Doing Anything Else
Virgil:
Enhanced senses
Healing factor with a 60-minute delay and absolutely no trace of injury
This scares him
Reacts poorly to meds
Did you know that anxiety functions very similarly to spider-sense? Neither did I!
Did you know that enhanced senses don’t help with anxiety? Actually, that one was pretty easy to figure out!
Has no idea if he’s doing the right thing
(He is, more or less)
Is terrified of what he can do if he’s alone
Wears fingerless gloves and goggles
Has a general Coraline vibe
He’s not worried about getting hurt, he’s worried about hurting people
High school senior, 17
Veronica Sawyer + Connor Murphy + Michael Mell
Works at a Starbucks close to Logan’s college
Has a one-sided crush on Logan but will never admit it
Is thoroughly convinced he can help Patton
He and Patton are the only ones who know each others’ real names
Absolutely despises Roman
Logan Blake:
Surface-level mind reader
not that he actually uses it very often
This freaked his aunt out when he was a kid
Disconnected to people’s feelings as a result
Knows why they’re feeling, just not what exactly if that makes any sense
Heroism is making him feel things he is not ready to feel
Hologram projection
A very nice shade of dark blue
Serves mostly as a map tool or visual aid
Bad with social cues but has decent social skills
Knows that being a hero is good. Logically.
Excellent memory
Wears a trench coat and headset
No, the headset does not work. He just likes to imply it does.
18, in college
Has no idea what to think about Delirium. Or Patton, for that matter. Refuses to read his mind
Roman is another mystery. It’s a mystery he doesn’t like very much.
Vaguely knows Virgil from Starbucks
Roman Browning:
Charm effect~? Kind of hard to explain
Gets weaker the more people he uses it on
here just take the TVTropes link
I’m sorry
tl;dr improves people’s opinions of him
As well as an illusion effect that’s independent of said glamour
It works just like Volpina’s (from ML, yes, just because I don’t care about that show anymore doesn’t mean I didn’t appreciate season 1 loads)
Does not work well on Logan (but that’s more due to the mind-reading than anything else)
Is genuinely convinced he can do a better job at hero work whatever it takes
(he is wrong)
He’s good at making things quickly
Disillusioned with heroism (pun completely intended)
Would actually be very susceptible to his own powers
Cape with a high collar because he just has to
Drama mask with gold trim
A crown-shaped burn scar on each cheek that he got from a Very Important Car Accident
It’s usually covered up with illusions. When he doesn’t feel up to it he just
Loves his siblings to the death
Popular and mildly annoying Heather Chandler + Jared Kleinman + Christine Canigula
Sees Delirium as having completely opposite goals to him. They clash a lot, but not always. But a lot.
Is pretty condescending when Patton is involved
Does not like Virgil

'This Is Us' Season 6: Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Plot, & More Info
Tumblr media
This Is Us’ first big surprise came in Season 1, Episode 1. It seemed like a show about four random characters with zero connection other than the same birthday. But by the end of the hour, the series had pulled back the curtain and revealed that all four (Kevin, Kate, Randall, and Jack) were one big family. Moreover, there was a grand plan in place to tell their story. With This Is Us Season 6 on the way for the 2021-2022 TV season, fans want to know where the plan goes next.
Since the show's inception, showrunner Dan Fogelman has said the series is on a six-season arc. He said the story's big plot points were already planned out well in advance, including twists to come in later seasons.
The first three seasons of This Is Us were renewed in the usual broadcast way, one season at a time each spring as the networks presented their upcoming slates. But something strange happened ahead of Season 4. Fans knew the show was almost certainly coming back, but NBC declined to mention its renewal at the usual time.
It took until August 2019, when the show returned to film, for the announcement to come, and then it was a bonanza reveal: This Is Us was renewed through Season 6, which Fogelman reiterated at the time was planned as the final season.
Now, with that season almost here, here's what to know about it:
'This Is Us' Season 6 Teaser
There is no teaser for This Is Us Season 6 as of yet. But fans do know a few things: Season 6 is now confirmed as the series finale. Fogelman took to Twitter on May 14 to share the news, writing that while he’s “sad” for the end, “We’ll work hard to stick the landing.”
Fogelman has been working toward the final episode for years. That includes filming future scenes with some of the show's youngest cast while still the right age to be part of the show's final episode.
'This Is Us' Season 6 Cast
The Pearson clan has been the heart of This Is Us since the show's inception, and fans can expect all three siblings, their spouses, their parents, and their children to return for the final run.
That includes:
The Pearson "Big Three" Triplets: Sterling K. Brown plays Randall, Chrissy Metz plays Kate, and Justin Hartley plays Kevin. Their teen versions are played by Niles Fitch, Hannah Zeile, and Logan Shroyer, and their tween versions are played by Lonnie Chavis, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, and Parker Bates.
The Older Pearson Generation: Mandy Moore is their mother, Rebecca, Milo Ventimiglia is her beloved late husband, Jack, and Jon Huertas is her current husband, Miguel. Also, Griffin Dunne plays Nicky, Jack's younger brother and uncle to the Big Three. He's the only character of this generation to have a "younger" version played by a different actor, Michael Angarano.
The Pearson Spouses: Susan Kelechi Watson plays Randall's wife Beth, Chris Sullivan plays Kate's husband Toby, and Caitlin Thompson plays Kevin's fiancée, Madison. Of this group, only Beth has recurring younger versions, played by Rachel Hilson and Akira Akbar.
The Pearsons: The Next Generation: The oldest kids are Randall's three children: Eris Baker as Tess, Lyric Ross as Deja, and Faithe Herman as Annie. Their adult versions (Iantha Richardson, La Trice Harper, and Iyana Halley) will also turn up in flash forwards. Kate's toddler son Jack and adopted baby daughter Hailey, and Kevin's newborn twins, Nicholas and Frances, will also be around. Fans have met Jack and Hailey's adult counterparts (Blake Stadnik and Adelaide Kane) in the future-set scenes, but not their teen versions. Conversely, fans have glimpsed Nicholas and Frances as tweens but have not seen adult versions yet.
As for recurring roles, it's a little less clear who will roll into the show's final season. Asante Blackk will probably be back as Deja's boyfriend, Malik. Phylicia Rashad will also most likely be around as Beth's mother, Carol.
Alexandra Breckenridge may be back as Kevin's ex-wife Sophie (as may her teen and kid counterparts, Amanda Leighton and Sophia Coto). Ron Cephas Jones may appear in flashbacks as Randall's biological dad William. Fans also hope Jennifer Morrison will be back as Cassidy Sharp, Nicky's friend from rehab.
'This Is Us' Season 6 Plot
Like the first five seasons, This Is Us will continue to unfold the final layers of the 100-year story of the all-American family of the Pearsons. So far, the series has covered stories from Jack's birth in 1950 to the birth of his great-granddaughter, Hope, in 2050.
Fans also hope there will be some answers and closure to how the story turns out. Does Kevin win an Oscar? Do he and Madison beat the odds and stay together? What happens to Miguel and Kate? (Neither has been seen in future flash forwards so far.) And what other last-minute ultra-satisfying twists will occur that no one even suspects yet?
'This Is Us' Season 6 Release Date
Except for the coronavirus-delayed Season 5, This Is Us has returned like clockwork every year to NBC on the last Tuesday of September. If that tradition holds, fans can expect Season 6 to arrive on Sept. 27, 2021, at 9 p.m. ET for its final 18-episode run.

Fixed - Part 7
Tumblr media Tumblr media
| Last Part | Masterlist |
A/N: There is a lot of point of view changing… sorry. If anyone wants to be added to or deleted from the tag list, just let me know, I love talking to you guys!
Tumblr media
I sat in the Jeep in the parking lot of the hospital while Stiles was inside, still trying to convince his dad that the supernatural was real. I sighed as I checked the time for the sixth time in six minutes.
“Come on, Stiles. I’m gonna be late.” I muttered before I flipped down the mirror to check my makeup. I sighed at my less than perfect bun and decided to let my hair down, fussing with it for a while, before checking the time yet again.
I was about to call Stiles when he practically ran out of the hospital, towards the Jeep. He got in and started it, peeing out of the parking lot, not saying a word to me.
“Stiles, what’s wrong?” I asked as he urged Roscoe to go faster.
“We need to get to the recital, like, right now.”
“Finally, I have to meet up with Logan, like, now.” I huffed, earning a glare.
“The next sacrifice is going to be there.” He said as he anxiously tapped his thumbs on the steering wheel.
“So does your dad believe us yet?” I asked and he gripped the wheel harder.
“No.” He said tightly, ending the conversation for the rest of the ride.
From: Logan ♡
Meet me in Harris’ room
I stared at my phone with my eyebrows pulled together until Stiles parked and practically fell out of the Jeep, and ran to the auditorium doors, but stopped in his tracks when he heard the clicking of my heels getting quieter.
“Where are you going?” He asked, rushing over to me.
“Logan wants to meet me in Harris’ room.” I said, turning to walk away, stopping as Stiles grabbed my arm and spun me back around.
“And you’re seriously gonna go?” He asked harshly.
“Why wouldn’t I?”
“Why wouldn’t-” He said but cut himself off. “Liv, he wants to have sex with you!”
“So? He’s hot, maybe I want him too.” It wasn’t a complete lie, he was hot, but I didn’t want to sleep with him, not when I was still annoyingly in love with Stiles.
“And here I thought you were smart.” Stiles scoffed.
“Excuse me?!” I shouted.
“He’s just gonna hurt you.”
“You have no right to talk about him hurting me when you’re the first one to break my heart. So if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go lose my virginity to the hottest guy in school.” I fumed, strutting away.
Anger was still bubbling in my gut by the time I reached the room that Harris used to teach in, I opened the door to find the room dark and empty, I was about to walk out when I saw something move in the shadows.
“Hello?” I called out nervously.
“Hello, Olivia.” Miss Blake said as she stepped out of the shadows and hit me over the head with a strength that should’ve been impossible.
Tumblr media
Stiles POV
I slipped into the auditorium and moved to stand next to Scott. My eyes narrowed as I caught sight of Logan getting out of his seat and walking towards us.
“Where’s Olivia?” He asked and I scoffed.
“Like you don’t know.”
“No, I really don’t know. She said that she was catching a ride with you, but then you guys were late and I lost my phone so I can’t get ahold of her and-” I cut off his rambling.
“Wait, you lost your phone?” I asked and he gave me a confused look.
“Yeah. What does that have to do with anything?”
“Shit.” I muttered before bolting out of the auditorium with Scott hot on my heels.
Tumblr media
Liv’s POV
My vision was hazy and I could feel the blood running down my forehead, I tried to reach up to feel my wound, but I was stopped when my wrists strained against something.
“You know, Lydia was my first choice, but you and your friends have her protected a little too well.” Miss Blake said as she toyed with something that my eyes wouldn’t let me focus on. “But you, I can practically feel the power that you have. You are going to be a big help in what’s to come.”
“What are you talking about?” I mumbled as she continued to play with whatever was in her hands.
“You and your friends call them sacrifices, but you’re not understanding the word. It’s derived from the Latin word sacrificium, an offering to a deity. A sacred rite. A necessary evil. You are, sadly, part of that necessary evil.” Miss Blake said and it finally clicked, she was the darach.
“Stop, please.” I whimpered.
“Oh, I wish I could, but you don’t know the alphas like I do.” She said as she stood up and moved behind me.
“No, please, no.” I cried, despite knowing that she wouldn’t stop.
“You aren’t a necessary sacrifice, but your death won’t be in vain. With power like yours, I could take down the alphas before they even knew what hit them.” She said as she pulled something over my head.
My eyes went wide and I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins as I realized that I would be another tri-fold death. I fought against my restraints, trying desperately to delay the inevitable.
“Olivia, stop!” Miss Blake said as the string began to tighten. I closed my eyes, wishing with all my might that Scott would find me.
I felt something like a tugging in my gut and when I opened my eyes random objects around the room had begun to float.
Tumblr media
Scott’s POV
I was following Stiles to the main entrance of the school, but I slowed to a stop when I couldn’t see Stiles or anything that I had just been looking at. Instead, I was a dark classroom with a bunch of things floating around.
“Help me! Please, someone help!” I heard Liv shout before it all faded away to reveal Stiles right in front of me.
“-ott. Hey, Scotty.” He said, lightly tapping my cheek. “What just happened?”
“Liv, she’s in trouble.” I said before we both began running again.
Tumblr media
Liv’s POV
“Unbelievable. You have no idea what you are, do you?” Miss Blake asked, dropping the string and moving to stand in front of me as all of the objects fell to the ground. “A psychic, right before my eyes. You’re just like me, Olivia. Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under it. It’s too bad though… and too late.”
In the blink of an eye, she was behind me once again with the string around my throat tightening.
“One last philosopher.” She said as I felt something cool and sharp against my neck. I was about to give up hope when I heard Sheriff.
“Drop it!” He shouted and my eyes finally let me focus on him aiming his gun at Miss Blake.
Next thing I knew, the knife that had been pressed against my throat was embedded in Sheriff’s shoulder causing him to drop his gun and fall to the ground. I was trying to gather the energy to do something, anything to help him when I heard Scott’s deafening roar.
In all honesty, the next few minutes were a bit of a blur, knowing that Scott was no match for Miss Blake, I tried to make everything float again. Nothing happened until Sheriff was being lifted up by the knife that was still lodged in his shoulder.
“Stop it!” I shouted, feeling the tugging in my gut again as every sharp object lifted up and flew at Miss Blake, yet she managed to catch them all. Once the tugging went away, I slumped over in my chair, all of my energy draining away.
I barely registered the sound of glass shattering or Stiles calling out for his dad or even being untied from the chair, the only thing that seemed to process was Miss Blake calling me a psychic.
My eyes lolled open and managed to focus on Scott in front of me as he gently pulled the garrote over my head. Behind Scott, Stiles was still standing at the window staring ahead with a blank look on his face and for some reason this made me start crying again. I tried to stand to comfort him, but I collapsed, falling into Scott.
“I’m so sorry. I could’ve done more, I should’ve done more.” I cried into Scott’s shoulder as he gently sat down on the floor, pulling me with him.
“Liv-” Scott began, but Stiles cut him off.
“No, you’re right. You shouldn’t have even been here in the first place. If you hadn’t been trying to get laid, none of this would’ve even happened!” Stiles shouted, finally looking at me.
“Stiles! How could you even-” Scott was cut off again but by me this time.
“He’s right, Scott.” I said as I pulled away from him. “I’m just gonna go.”
I stood up slowly, my legs wobbling the whole time. I went to take a step, but my heel slid on the tile floor and I came toppling to the ground. Scott, of course, rushed to help me, stopping short when I held up my hand, signaling that I didn’t want help. I pulled off my heels and got up again, even slower than the first time, and stumbled to my car, feeling completely exhausted and humiliated.

MLB roundup: Dodgers edge Rockies in pivotal opener
Yasiel Puig hit a home run in his return from suspension, and Clayton Kershaw pitched six strong innings as the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers closed the gap on the first-place Colorado Rockies with a 4-2 victory Friday night.

The Dodgers opened a key National League West series by moving a half-game behind the division-leading Rockies. The teams face each other two more times this weekend and three more times later this month in Los Angeles.
Puig went deep in the second inning for his 16th home run of the season and first since Aug. 11. He missed the past two games as discipline for an on-field confrontation with the San Francisco Giants’ Nick Hundley in August.
Kershaw (7-5) gave up two runs on six hits over six innings with one walk and seven strikeouts. He picked up his 22nd career victory over the Rockies, tied for his most against a single team (Giants).
Diamondbacks 5, Braves 3
Paul Goldschmidt had two hits, including his 33rd home run, and left-hander Patrick Corbin pitched six strong innings as Arizona held off visiting Atlanta.
Daniel Descalso had two RBIs, and Nick Ahmed had two hits for the Diamondbacks, who moved within 1 1/2 games of Colorado in the National League West. They had lost five of six.
Johan Camargo had two doubles and a homer, Ronald Acuna Jr. had two hits and a stolen base and Nick Markakis had two hits for the Braves, whose lead in the NL East was shaved to 2 1/2 games over Philadelphia.
Brewers 4, Giants 2
Jesus Aguilar broke a seventh-inning tie with a two-out, two-run double, leading Milwaukee past visiting San Francisco.
The hard-fought win allowed the Brewers (80-62) to solidify their spot atop the National League wild-card race to 1 1/2 games over St. Louis (78-63). Milwaukee also gained a half-game on the first-place Chicago Cubs (83-57) in the NL Central.
Josh Hader (5-1), who struck out five over two scoreless innings in relief of Chase Anderson, was credited with the win. Jeremy Jeffress threw a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts for his ninth save.
Tigers 5, Cardinals 3
Jeimer Candelario hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to give Detroit a win over visiting St. Louis.
Candelario’s 18th homer of the season came off Jordan Hicks (3-4). Victor Reyes singled with one out prior to Candelario’s opposite-field blast.
Marcell Ozuna hit two solo homers for the Cardinals.
Phillies 4, Mets 3
Aaron Nola kept pace in the National League Cy Young Award race, earning his 16th win by allowing three runs over seven innings as Philadelphia topped host New York.
The Phillies won for just the sixth time in 18 games.

Nola (16-4) gave up three hits and one walk while striking out eight as he moved into a tie for the NL lead in wins with one of his Cy Young competitors, Washington ace Max Scherzer.
Astros 6, Red Sox 3
Tyler White capped Houston’s second consecutive three-run inning with an RBI single in the eighth, helping secure a win at Boston.
The Astros extended their winning streak to six games with the come-from-behind victory. They trailed 2-0 entering the seventh inning, limited to one hit at that point by Red Sox left-hander David Price, who was making his first start since getting hit on the wrist by a line drive on Aug. 29.
After losing a 3-2 lead taken in the seventh, the Astros rallied again in the eighth against Red Sox right-hander Joe Kelly (4-2). George Springer, Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman opened the frame with consecutive singles, and each came around to score.
Athletics 8, Rangers 4
Ramon Laureano led off two innings with home runs, and Marcus Semien contributed a two-run homer to a four-run second, propelling Oakland past visiting Texas.
A fourth win in their last five games allowed the A’s (85-57) to keep pace with the Houston Astros (88-53) in the American League West and the New York Yankees (88-53) in the AL wild-card race. Oakland remains 3 1/2 games behind in each pursuit.
Laureano, Semien and Matt Chapman collected two RBIs each for the A’s, who beat Texas for the 11th time in 17 meetings this season.
Yankees 4, Mariners 0
Masahiro Tanaka pitched eight scoreless innings as New York blanked host Seattle.
Rookie Gleyber Torres and Andrew McCutchen each hit two-run homers for the Yankees. New York has hit 230 home runs this season and is on pace to tie the major league record of 264 set by the 1997 Mariners, who featured Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez in their lineup.
Tanaka (11-5) allowed three hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out a season-high 10 to win his second September start after going 0-3 in August. The right-hander improved to 7-0 in eight career starts against the Mariners.
Blue Jays 3, Indians 2 (11 innings)
Kevin Pillar hit the second walk-off home run of his career with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning as Toronto edged visiting Cleveland.
The Indians had loaded the bases in the top of 11th against Jake Petricka on a single and two walks, but Danny Barnes (3-2) retired Jose Ramirez on a groundout to end the threat.
Brad Hand struck out Rowdy Tellez to open the bottom of the 11th, his fourth strikeout in 1 1/3 innings, and was replaced by Adam Cimber (3-6), who allowed Pillar’s 12th homer of the season.
Angels 5, White Sox 2
Felix Pena threw seven strong innings, and Shohei Ohtani homered to lead Los Angeles to a win at Chicago.
Pena (2-4) went seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking none. Ohtani hit a three-run homer, his fourth in his last three games, to increase his season total to 19, a major league record for Japanese-born rookies.
Slideshow (14 Images)
Before the game, Ohtani told reporters he will play out the season as a hitter and decide whether or not to have Tommy John surgery once the season is over. An MRI exam earlier this week showed Ohtani has new damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
Rays 14, Orioles 2
Blake Snell became the second 18-game winner in the majors by pitching 5 1/3 outstanding innings as Tampa Bay slugged four homers to send visiting Baltimore to its 100th loss.
Snell (18-5) limited the Orioles to two runs on five hits. He tied a team record by winning his sixth consecutive start, becoming the fourth pitcher in Rays history to do.
He joined Cleveland ace Corey Kluber as the second 18-game winner. Snell also became Tampa Bay’s first 18-game winner since left-hander David Price went 20-5 in 2012.
Pirates 5, Marlins 3
Rookie Kevin Kramer hit a game-tying single for his first major league RBI, and Jordan Luplow followed with a two-run home run in the seventh inning to push host Pittsburgh past Miami.
In the seventh against reliever Tayron Guerrero (1-3), Jordy Mercer led off with his career-high 28th double. Two outs later, Kramer made it 3-3 with a single to center. Luplow followed with his third homer, to right-center for a 5-3 lead.
Josh Bell also hit a two-run homer for the Pirates, who have won four straight.
Reds 12, Padres 6
Phillip Ervin drove in four runs with two homers, including a tiebreaking shot off Matt Strahm in the bottom of the fourth, and Scott Schebler hit a grand slam to cap a five-run sixth and lead Cincinnati past visiting San Diego.
Right-hander Michael Lorenzen (3-1), who faced the minimum nine hitters while allowing one hit with a strikeout in three scoreless innings, was credited with the win. Strahm (3-4) took the loss in relief.
The start of the game was delayed by two hours and 37 minutes due to rain.
Twins 10, Royals 6
Eddie Rosario homered, and Ehire Adrianza had three hits and three RBIs as Minnesota snapped a five-game losing streak with a win over Kansas City in Minneapolis.
Logan Forsythe scored three runs, Jake Cave had two hits and scored two runs and Jorge Polanco and Rosario also each had two hits for the Twins.
Salvador Perez hit a three-run home run for the Royals.
Cubs-Nationals, ppd.
Washington and Chicago had their game at Nationals Park postponed after more than four hours of rain delays.
The contest will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Saturday, with Game 1 beginning at 3:05 p.m. ET. The second game will start approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
It was nearly three hours into a second rain delay with two out in the top of the second inning before the decision was made for a postponement, which came after the rain had stopped.

Demons dump veteran, forgotten Bomber back
Tumblr media
MELBOURNE has sensationally dumped veteran Bernie Vince for Sunday's clash against St Kilda at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Tumblr media
BERNIE Vince has been dropped for Melbourne's clash with St Kilda at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. First-year defender Harrison Petty and Sam Weideman have been added to the Demons' team at the expense of Vince and forward Tim Smith. Vince is averaging just 16.4 possessions per game this season, his lowest return since 2007 when he managed just six games for Adelaide in his second year. Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said Vince, 32, was capable of reclaiming his place in the team. "Bernie remains an important player for our football club," said Mahoney. "He knows his form hasn't been at its best, but we expect him to go back, play well and find his way back into the team." "We're confident Bernie can return to the required level and have an impact for us for the rest of the season." The Saints, meanwhile, have also made two changes with skipper Jarryn Geary returning from a calf complaint and Irishman Darragh Joyce to make his AFL debut. Defenders Logan Austin and Jimmy Webster have been axed. Essendon speedster Travis Colyer will play his first senior game of 2018 when the Bombers tackle North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Colyer - who missed the first half of the season with a foot injury - is one of two inclusions for the Dons who have also named defender Patrick Ambrose. Small forward Josh Green has been omitted while emerging talent Mason Redman may not play again this year because of an ankle injury. Ben Jacobs returns from his delayed onset of concussion that saw him miss North's thrilling two-point win over the Western Bulldogs last weekend, while Ryan Clarke has also been named. Paul Ahern has been given the chop and speedy wingman Billy Hartung is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Fremantle has lost in-form midfielder Connor Blakely (knee) for up to six weeks, but have been strengthened by the return of three-time leading goal-kicker Michael Walters and key defender Alex Pearce as they look to square the ledger on their season. Walters returns from a one-game suspension for striking while Pearce has recovered from a thumb injury. Ryan Nyhuis has been dropped for Sunday's meeting with Brisbane at Optus Stadium. The Lions, meanwhile, welcome back midfield pair Mitch Robinson and Jake Barrett and defender Daniel McStay. Young gun Harris Andrews will miss after suffering concussion in a sickening clash with Greater Western Sydney spearhead Jeremy Cameron that results in the Giants young gun being hit with a five-match ban, while Zac Bailey and Sam Mayes have been cut. The Tigers picked up a win and now will play at least two more games.
Things started out a little rough for Auburn as Keegan Thompson was getting hit hard by the Rebels early in the first game of the SEC Tournament. After significant rain delays and a long Game 1, the game originally scheduled for 4:30 got under way in the late evening hours. That didn't look to have done Keegan any favors.
With Ole Miss leading 2-0 going into the 4th inning, Auburn needed something to happen. With 2 outs, the Tigers mounted a 3-run rally that included a Will Holland double to score the first run and then a Jonah Todd triple for the next 2 to give Auburn a 3-2 lead.
Ole Miss would add one in the 6th off Casey Mize - who entered the game for Auburn in the 4th inning - but Blake Logan his a solo shot to once again give Auburn the lead 4-3 in the following half. Luke Jarvis scored in the bottom of the 8th on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 5-3.
Ole Miss added a run in a 9th inning rally thanks to a solo home run, but that was all the Rebels could muster against Casey Mize. The normal starter who was pitching from the bullpen allowed only 3 hits, no walks, and struck out 9 in his 6 innings of relief work to give Auburn the 5-4 win over the Rebels.
Auburn will now move into the Double-Elimination portion of the SEC Tournament and will face Florida tonight. The Gators are going to be raring for revenge since Auburn swept them in the opening series of the SEC schedule. That game may or may not happen Wednesday night. The rain in Hoover has significantly altered the schedule. Auburn was supposed to play in the second-to-last game of the night Tuesday night. Instead, UGA and MSU's Game 4 had to be pushed to 9:30 am Central time Wednesday morning.
As of right now, Auburn's game is listed as TBD in the SEC Bracket. Mizzou and LSU are scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm Central. If the weather cooperates and every game stays on schedule, then Auburn and Florida will likely begin around 8:00 pm Central time. If there are more delays and long games, then the Tigers and Gators may be pushed to the first game Thursday morning.
Regardless, with the win Tuesday night it's a virtual lock that the Tigers have scored a post-season birth in the NCAA Tournament. They'll go somewhere and be a 2 or 3 seed. Could they still host? Maybe if they win out and win the whole tournament, but that's not likely to happen.
We've still got at least two games to play in Hoover first, though, to see just what Auburn may be able to come up with. It's good to see Auburn winning in Hoover! War Eagle! Let's complete the season sweep of the Gators!

HUFFPOST HILL - Civil Society Implodes, Paul Ryan Dabs
Like what you read below? Sign up for HUFFPOST HILL and get a cheeky dose of political news every evening!
Donald Trump lost the popular vote, scored a sub-par Electoral College tally and now over 50 percent of Americans disapprove of his performance ― so the revolution is going real swell. Jason Chaffetz threatened the head of the Office of Government Ethics ― we guess he has to do something with all the extra time he previously spent looking his children in the eye. And another political controversy has erupted over a painting, but it’s unclear whether Duncan Hunter will employ his world-renown art-yanking skills to resolve the conflict. This is HUFFPOST HILL for Friday, January 13th, 2017:
TRUMP HISTORICALLY UNPOPULAR - Yeah but wait until you see the crowd size at inauguration. Lydia Saad: “In Gallup polling conducted two weeks before Inauguration Day, President-elect Donald Trump continues to garner historically low approval for his transition performance, with 51% of Americans disapproving of how he is handling the presidential transition and 44% approving. Last month, the public was split on this question, with 48% approving and 48% disapproving. Trump’s 48% transition approval rating in December was already the lowest for any presidential transition Gallup has measured, starting with Bill Clinton’s in 1992-1993. Trump’s current rating only further separates him from his predecessors ― particularly Barack Obama, who earned 83% approval for his handling of the transition process in January 2009, up from 75% in mid-December 2008. Republicans’ rating of Trump’s transition has remained positive, with 87% approving in the Jan. 4-8 poll, similar to the 86% recorded last month. Very few Democrats approve, which has also been fairly steady, at 13% this month versus 17% in December. Meanwhile, his transition approval among independents has fallen from 46% to 33%.” [Gallup]
Oh wait, Trump doesn’t even have crowd sizes going for him: “President-elect Donald Trump has boasted (incorrectly) that there is nary a dress to be had in D.C. for inaugural balls, and that attendance at his swearing in will be ‘record-setting.’ However, bus permit applications for the weekend tell a different story. As of Friday, roughly 200 bus permits have been requested to park in Washington D.C.’s RFK stadium on Inauguration Day, a spokesperson for the District Department of Transportation confirmed to The Huffington Post. (A total of 393 have been granted within the entire district that day.) By contrast, nearly 1,200 tour bus permits that have been requested for the Women’s March on Washington the following day.” [HuffPost’s Catherine Pearson]
Errrbody gonna git druuuunk: “The D.C. government has announced 108 District restaurants, bars, and hotels will be able to sell alcohol until four a.m. from January 14-22.” [WJLA]
THE MORE THINGS CHANGE - S.V. Date: “Days after announcing that he would not be putting his business assets into a blind trust, President-elect Donald Trump is meeting with billionaire real estate developer Steven Roth who co-owns two of his buildings. Roth is to meet with Trump Friday afternoon, according to the schedule provided by spokesman Sean Spicer during a conference call with reporters Friday morning. Spicer did not immediately respond to a Huffington Post query regarding the nature of the meeting. CEO of Vornado Realty Trust, Roth has done business with Trump for decades. Vornado currently owns 70 percent to Trump’s 30 percent of two buildings: one in San Francisco and the other on Sixth Avenue in midtown Manhattan.” [HuffPost]
TRUMP ACCUSER COMING TO D.C. WITH A BIG SQUAD - Dana Liebelson: “When Cathy Heller, one of more than a dozen women who have accused President-elect Donald Trump of sexual harassment or assault, arrives in Washington next week to protest his inauguration, she won’t be alone. Heller plans to travel from New York City to D.C. with an Amtrak car full of supporters. The 63-year-old made news last fall when she came forward to allege that Trump tried to kiss her without her consent about 20 years ago, at a Mother’s Day brunch at his Mar-a-Lago estate. She has reserved an entire train car to bring people to the nation’s capital for the Women’s March on Washington on Jan. 21.” [HuffPost]

THIS SHOULD TERRIFY REPUBLICAN LAWMAKERS - Ariel Edwards-Levy: “Voters who elected Trump largely are inclined to take his side in such disputes against congressional Republicans and traditionally conservative pressure groups, according to a new poll.” [HuffPost]
INTELLIGENCE BRIEFING SEND DEMOCRATS INTO A RAGE - Akbar Shahid Ahmed: “Congressional Democrats raged against FBI Director James Comey on Friday after he and other intelligence agency chiefs provided legislators with a classified briefing on Russia’s involvement in last year’s presidential election. Interviewed by The Hill, Democrats said they were furious. ‘I’m extremely concerned,’ said Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the ranking member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) said he had lost confidence in Comey, citing the last 15 minutes of the briefing as a tipping point but providing no details on what the FBI head or other intelligence officials said. ‘I’m disappointed, outraged — many of us are right now,’ Walz told The Hill. Comey upset both Democrats and Republicans by declining to comment on whether his agency is investigating reported ties between President-elect Donald Trump and the Russian government, sources inside the briefing told the Guardian. Democrats want Comey to look into the allegations, which the intelligence community has not proved but has flagged as important enough to share with Trump and President Barack Obama.” [HuffPost]
CHAFFETZ THREATENS ETHICS OFFICE - Super-ethical thing to do. Nick Baumann and Paul Blumenthal: “Walter Shaub, the head of the OGE, is ‘blurring the line between public relations and official ethics guidance,’ Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), the chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform committee, wrote in a sternly worded letter to Shaub Thursday. Chaffetz, the Republican who announced last year that he wouldn’t be able to look his daughter in the eye if he endorsed Trump and then went on to vote for Trump, demanded that Shaub show up for a private interview on Capitol Hill as soon as possible — or else face a subpoena forcing him to do so. ‘He’s coming in,’ Chaffetz told Politico. ‘This is not going to be an optional exercise.’ Chaffetz noted in the letter that his committee has the power to reauthorize the ethics office. What Chaffetz didn’t have to say is that his committee could also push to shutter the office entirely. Earlier this month, House Republicans tried to gut another ethics watchdog, the Office of Congressional Ethics, before backing down.” [HuffPost]
MICHAEL FLYNN POSSIBLY BREAKS LAW - It’s OK, though, because he saw a report on NewsNowFast.poo that Hillary Clinton once underwent reiki healing with Saddam Hussein ― truly she is the real criminal. Jonathan Landay, Warren Strobel, Susan Heavey and Emily Stephenson: “Michael Flynn, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for national security adviser, held multiple phone conversations with Russia’s ambassador to Washington on the day the United States announced retaliation for Moscow’s interference in the U.S. presidential election, two people familiar with the issue said…. Whether Flynn and Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak discussed those sanctions is unclear. An 18th-century U.S. law, the Logan Act, bars unauthorized citizens from negotiating with foreign governments that are in disputes with the United States.” [Reuters]
But because nothing matters anymore, neither does this. Republican voters have decided to believe Trump on Russia over literally every piece of available evidence, a new poll shows. [WaPo’s Aaron Blake]
GET READY FOR SCHRÖDINGER’S OBAMACARE REPLACEMENT - Republicans won’t be able to sleep tonight over the excitement of kicking millions of their insurance! Matt Fuller: “Without a single Democrat voting in support, the House narrowly advanced a budget blueprint on Friday intended to be the eventual vehicle for gutting Obamacare…. Most Republicans, though not everyone, agree they will need to replace Obamacare with something once it’s gone ― which is why Republicans are planning to delay the date of enactment on a repeal for a good long time.” [HuffPost]
Republican governors really don’t want Congress to take away all that Obamacare Medicaid money.
PEOPLE TAPPING HOT AIR TO LIGHT THEIR HOMES - The internet of things is terrifying, not as terrifying as Donald Trump, but terrifying. Jeremy Olshan: “IFTTT — which stands for ‘if this, then that’ — allows users who know nothing about coding to create cause-and-effect algorithms.... I asked IFTTT how many people have set up algorithms to track Trump. ‘We have just under 1,000 people using IFTTT to keep up with Donald Trump tweets,’ spokeswoman Anne Mercogliano replied. The most popular Trump algorithms automatically email his tweets to users, or post them in intracompany message boards like Slack, she said. Some IFTTT users have set their lights to blink whenever Trump tweets, Mercogliano said. Putting the president-elect’s social stream of consciousness to productive use, others link IFTTT to banking services like Qapital to have small sums of money move into their savings accounts every time Trump fires off a new tweet.” [MarketWatch]
Here’s a video of Ben Carson laughing maniacally.
JOHN LEWIS NOT MINCING WORDS ABOUT TRUMP - And he’s skipping the inauguration. Matt Ferner: “Civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) does not consider the presidency of Donald Trump ‘legitimate,’ he said in an interview with NBC News that appeared Friday. ‘I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president,’ Lewis told Chuck Todd, host of NBC’s ‘Meet The Press.’ ‘I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected and they have destroyed the candidacy of Hillary Clinton.’” [HuffPost]
Steve Harvey met with Trump for some reason Friday, and the president-elect immediately put him on the phone with Ben Carson, the other black guy he knows.
BIDEN DID TELL US OBAMA WAS ‘CLEAN’ - Paul Blumenthal: “Scandal has consumed the final four years of every two-term president in modern history ― George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon. Barack Obama’s administration is the exception. While there were some minor scandals and resignations during Obama’s eight years in office, wrongdoing never fully occupied his presidency. None of it even directly touched the White House. There were no grand juries investigating his aides. There were no impeachments. There were neither convictions of White House staffers, nor pardons to protect government officials…. President-elect Donald Trump, meanwhile, is set to enter office with unprecedented conflicts of interest related to his business empire, already setting the tone for a very different administration.” [HuffPost]
HERE’S A BIG HEAPING SLICE OF ‘OH’ - Peter Hermann and Aaron C. Davis: “The U.S. Army general who heads the D.C. National Guard and is an integral part of overseeing the inauguration said Friday he will be removed from command effective Jan. 20 at 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president. Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz’s departure will come in the midst of the presidential ceremony — classified as a national special security event — and while thousands of his troops are deployed to help protect the nation’s capital during an inauguration he has spent months helping to plan. “The timing is extremely unusual,” Schwartz said in an interview Friday morning, confirming a memo announcing his ouster that was obtained by The Washington Post. During the inauguration, Schwartz would command not only the members of the D.C. Guard but also an additional 5,000 unarmed troops sent in from across the country to help. He also would oversee military air support protecting Washington during the inauguration.” [WaPo]
HOO BOY, THAT DOJ REPORT ON CHICAGO COPS - Kim Bellware and Ryan J. Reilly: “The Chicago Police Department regularly violates citizens’ civil rights, routinely fails to hold officers accountable for misconduct and poorly trained officers at all levels, according to a sweeping Justice Department probe of the nation’s second-largest police department…. The report comes after a bruising year for the Chicago police and a violent one for the city: More than 750 people were killed last year. Meanwhile, CPD solved fewer than one-third of all murders — less than half the national average. Allegations of abuse, torture and corruption have dogged the CPD for nearly a century.” [HuffPost]
HuffPost broke out the lowlights from the report, which you should read if you want to get upset.
BECAUSE YOU’VE READ THIS FAR - Here’s a dog helping other dogs.
SURE, WHY NOT, ANOTHER PAINTING CONTROVERSY - Philip Kennicott: “Last week, a little-known tradition of modern presidential inaugurations brought unwanted attention to the St. Louis Art Museum. Since Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration in 1985, an American painting has served as a backdrop during the inaugural luncheon, at which members of Congress play host to the newly installed president. When Donald Trump is made the 45th president of the United States on Jan. 20, George Caleb Bingham’s ‘The Verdict of the People’ will be the chosen painting, hanging on a partition wall behind the ceremonial head table in the Capitol’s Statuary Hall…. A Change.org petition, which criticizes ‘the use of the painting to suggest that Trump’s election was truly the “verdict of the people,” when in fact the majority of votes...were cast for Trump’s opponent’ has more than 3,000 signatures.” [WaPo]

Tigers get the much-needed series victory at home.
Auburn got things back on track this weekend with the series victory over Ole Miss this weekend. The Tigers should have a NCAA Regional appearance locked up, now, but we'll have to wait and see next weekend.
Game 1: Auburn 4-1
Keegan Thompson had one of the best outings of his career in the first six innings of the first game of the series. Until the lighting delay shut things down for an hour, he pitched 6 scoreless and hitless innings while striking out 8. I can't help but wonder if he would have thrown the no-hitter if the game had continued with no delay.
The Tigers' bats came alive in the first game. Whether it was the haircuts or Luke Jarvis returning to the lineup is debatable, but they got on the board on Jarvis' bat in the 2nd inning. Jarvis scored on a Jonah Todd single in the 4th and then Daniel Robert followed with a home run in the 4th as well to give Thomspon all the run support he needed. Cole Lipscomb came on after the lightning delay and finished the game out. He did allow a run in the 9th, but for the most part, he was just as good as Keegan had been in the early going, He struck out 4 in his 3 innings pitched and only allowed 3 hits.
Game 2: Auburn 9-1
If the bats woke up in Game 1, it was only the early morning wake up. By Friday night's game, they were ready to go wild. They scored early and often in this one, with a Josh Anthony single scoring Daniel Robert and Jonah Todd getting things going in the 1st inning. They added 2 more runs in the 3rd inning thanks to Jay Estes and Blake Logan.
Connor Davis drove home a run in the 5th inning to get the score up to 5-0. When Auburn came to bat in the 5th, though, they really broke things open. The Tigers scored 4 more thanks to a Bo Decker double, a bases-loaded walk, and a Conor Davis double. Davis led the team with 3 RBIs on the night.
On the mound, Davis Daniel continued to show his improvement since the beginning of the season. He struck out 8 batters and allowed only 4 hits and 1 run in his 6 and 1/3 inning. Gabe Klobosits came on to finish the game, throwing the final 2 and 2/3 innings. He allowed an inherited run to score but only gave up 3 hits as he closed the game out for Auburn and gave the Tigers the much-needed series victory.
Game 3: Ole Miss 4-8
Things just didn't really go right for the Tigers all afternoon in the final game of this series. Auburn jumped on the board first in the 1st inning with a Conor Davis single for a RBI, but the lead didn't last long. Ole Miss tied it in the 2nd and then took the lead in the 3rd. Josh Anthony tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the 3rd with a double, but Ole Miss took the lead for good in the 4th with 3 runs.
The game was delayed for a little while due to weather in Auburn's half of the 5th inning as Dylan Ingram scored Jonah Todd on a groundout. Ole Miss scored again in the 6th and 9th, though, to get the game to the final margin of 4-8.
Andrew Mitchell started this one, but Butch Thompson pulled him in the 3rd when he gave up 3 earned runs. Ole Miss avoided the sweep on the Plains with the Sunday win.
The Way Forward
These two teams will likely meet again in the first game of the SEC Tournament as Auburn should be the 8th seed and Ole Miss the 9th. That means the Tigers and Rebels should have the 4:30 pm game on Tuesday.
A Regional should be locked up at this point even with today's loss and regardless of what happens in Hoover. A good run through the SEC Tournament could result in a better spot, but more than likely nothing Auburn really does in the SEC Tournament will have a huge say in where the Tigers end up in the NCAA Tournament.
The regular season has come to a close. It's likely that Keegan Thomspon and others have played their final games at Plainsman Park. What a season they had to go out on, too. There were plenty of ups and downs, but overall it was a great ride. Here's to hoping it keeps going for a few more weeks!
