it's so insane to me just how tragic Davenport is as a character considering his origins. Like you take a joke about him being a pokemon who can only say his own name and you turn that into a man who has suffered such a loss to his sense of self that the only part of his identity that remains is his name. How hard do you think Lucretia tried to find a place for him like she did with Taako, Merle, and Magnus only to find there was no hope of doing so, that she had destroyed him so thoroughly that the only thing she could do was keep him at her side as a horrible reminder of the effects of her plan

to me, the most fascinating (and utterly unintentional) feature of TAZ Balance's narrative structure is the way that on the first listen, Tres Horny Boys are the audience surrogates because they, much like us, have no idea what the fuck is going on, but on all subsequent relistens, then Lucretia, and sometimes Barry, and arguably especially Lup in the umbrella become the new audience stand-ins, because just like us, they are, in fact, painfully aware of what the fuck is going on :)

So... How hard do you think Lucretia sobbed after she went to breakfast, on a random day, and saw the carving L U P on the wall of her cafeteria?

When she saw Taako that day, talking to him about what happened, how vicious was the feeling of grief, sadness and guilt that wrecked her whole being as he he said "Lup? What even is that?" with the cold aloofness and disinterest she'd learned to expect yet it still hurt so bad???

How many tears did she shed in the secure privacy of her room? How many screams and nightmares went uncomforted because she was alone, so alone, and it was all her own terrible, only, devastating, choice?

Just thinking how much it would suck for Lucretia when she was making the Bureau of Balance all static, if the Void Fish decided that that shit was cool and that everyone ought to know about it and just broad casted it all across the universe

merle and lucretia's friendship is so very good and extremely underrated. like during the lunar interludes but especially during stolen century. the way merle spent their last night on their home plane making sure lucretia was safe at the bar, the way clint always seems to jump at the chance to bring lucretia along for whatever merle's doing that cycle, the little talk when she's still quiet and shy but he tells her he thinks she could make a great leader. i love this crunchy dad trying to gently convince this quiet little perfectionist to come out of her shell, and her reciprocating that friendship in her own way.
