Ok, if you're in the US, go see the movie "Unsung Hero" this weekend
It's a film about family, about working against the odds, about music (but not a cheesy musical), and it's fantastic (I'd give it a 9.5/10, but maybe subtract the .5 because I'm ever so slightly biased towards the lead actor).
We need to hype it up, so the theaters know that we want this kind of film more often, GO SEE IT

Hi, Mide!
As a fellow CCM fan, I need to ask what are your favorite fashion moments from ccm artists? There are a ton of opportunities, but most looks are very casual and/or boring.
hey, I apologize for the delay in response, there was a hurricane in my area and I’ve not been able to access the internet for about three days now.
in my opinion, my favourite fashion moments from CCM artists are:
for KING & COUNTRY
maybe it is my bias speaking because personally, I wouldn’t have spared CCM a second look if it wasn’t for these awesome gentlemen
Tumblr media
yeah, I had to include their wives because my goodness 😘👌🏾. this is from last year’s Dove Awards.
Tumblr media
this was from the 2019 Grammys and as usual, they delivered
Tumblr media
this picture is from the 2019 GMA Dove Awards and look, I’m no expert in fashion but again, they slayed with the coats (I especially love Joel Smallbone’s long coat)
Colton Dixon
trust me, his hair alone deserves an award of its own
Tumblr media
there’s probably more but these are the ones I could think up on the spot.

Tiny Review: Unsung Hero 2024. Wholesome, cathartic family drama.
Tumblr media
Fun fact: Joel Smallbone (who is part of a successful Christian pop duo For King & Country with his brother Luke) produced, directed, wrote, and starred as his father David Smallbone. Joel and Luke are shown to be frenemies in this movie, ha!
Heh, didn’t realized this was a Christian genre movie at all.
Who cares? It’s a great story. Really emotional. Really well-structured, well-written. High in catharsis. MUST WATCH!
Tumblr media
Unsung Hero is a 2024 American Christian drama film written and directed by Richard Ramsey and Joel Smallbone. It stars Daisy Betts, Joel Smallbone, and Kirrilee Berger, with Jonathan Jackson, Lucas Black, and Candace Cameron Bure.

✨ Movie Review: Unsung Hero (2024) ✨
Unsung Hero is more than just a film about faith and resilience; it’s a celebration of family, perseverance, and the strength of belief. Luke and Joel Smallbone, the musicians behind For King & Country, share their family's inspiring journey from Australia to America after a devastating financial collapse. With their mother, Helen Smallbone, as the emotional anchor of the film, viewers are given a glimpse into the real-life hardships the family faced, and the deep faith that saw them through.
Tumblr media
Learning from the Characters
Helen Smallbone embodies the strength of faith and humility. She isn’t portrayed as a larger-than-life character but rather as a mother who, through quiet acts of faith, sustains her family during its darkest hours. She becomes the unsung hero of the family, showing that serving with love and remaining faithful in small things can lead to monumental change. Her story reinforces that anyone can be a hero through consistent acts of kindness and faithfulness in everyday life.
David Smallbone, played by Joel Smallbone, faces a deep internal struggle with failure and redemption. His portrayal offers us a raw, honest look at a man who’s grappling with the pressures of being a provider. His journey reminds us that redemption comes not through success but through persistence. David’s eventual recovery shows that failing doesn’t define a person—getting back up does.
The Smallbone children also demonstrate resilience and unity, particularly Rebecca, who strives to maintain her personal dreams while supporting her family. Each sibling’s journey showcases the importance of standing together, revealing that family bonds can provide the foundation to overcome even the greatest challenges.
Tumblr media
Key Dialogues and Life Lessons
The film is filled with impactful lines that go beyond simple storytelling, offering deep life lessons. One standout quote, “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family,” echoes throughout the movie, reminding us that great change often begins with small acts of love at home. This concept is universally applicable and speaks to the power of strong, supportive families in building a better world.
Another line that stands out is inspired by the famous poem: “If you can meet with triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same, you’ll be a man!” This powerful message encourages viewers to embrace both victories and setbacks with grace, understanding that neither defines a person’s worth. It’s a message about maintaining balance and perspective in life, reminding us not to be consumed by success or defeated by failure.
Tumblr media
The “Please and Thank You Boards” and Gratitude
One of the most practical and touching elements in the film is the family’s use of Please and Thank You boards, which symbolize the importance of expressing gratitude daily. These boards, a simple tool for appreciation, become an emotional centerpiece that demonstrates how small, intentional acts of recognition can shift perspectives, helping the family focus on the blessings they have rather than their hardships.
In our own lives, adopting this practice can help cultivate a mindset of gratitude and positivity, even in difficult times. The message is clear: when we actively acknowledge and express thankfulness for the good things in life, we are better equipped to handle life’s challenges.
Tumblr media
The Power of Music and Faith
Music is woven intricately into the fabric of this film, not just as a form of artistic expression but as a vehicle for healing and hope. The songs, many from For King & Country, carry emotional weight, uplifting both the characters and the audience. Tracks like the updated version of “Place in This World” perfectly complement the film’s narrative of overcoming adversity and finding one’s place despite difficult circumstances.
Luke Smallbone explains that music became a way for the family to process their struggles and find joy even in hardship. This is an important lesson for anyone facing challenges: creative expression, whether through music, art, or any other outlet, can be a powerful form of therapy and a way to stay connected to hope.
Tumblr media
Real-Life Lessons from the Podcast
In a recent podcast, Luke Smallbone reflected on the real-life inspiration behind the film, sharing deeply personal insights that add layers of meaning to the story. He emphasized the importance of balancing dreams without letting them become all-consuming. As Luke shared in the interview, “It’s great to chase your dreams, but if the dream is your master, you won’t be satisfied when it comes true.” This teaches us that while striving for success is important, our value comes not from achieving our dreams but from knowing that we are already enough.
Luke’s reflections on forgiveness and family relationships were particularly moving. He expressed that forgiveness is “the most powerful weapon we are afforded as people”, and the film reinforces this truth. In a world where people often operate on a tit-for-tat basis, learning to forgive, especially within families, can heal deep wounds and foster generational change.
Faith in Everyday Miracles
Throughout the film, the Smallbone family experiences what can only be described as everyday miracles—moments where faith, kindness, and resilience combine to create unexpected blessings. Whether it’s a friend offering help or a door opening just in time, Unsung Hero shows us that miracles aren’t always grand, but they are present in the ordinary moments of life when we choose to believe.
This concept of miracles, though rooted in faith, is not tied to any particular religion. It’s about seeing the good in life’s twists and turns, recognizing that sometimes, what looks like a setback may actually be a setup for something greater. The film encourages viewers of all backgrounds to look for these moments of grace in their own lives.
A Universal Message of Hope
Unsung Hero is more than a Christian film—it’s a universal story of human resilience, the power of family, and the belief that love can carry us through the darkest of times. Whether you come from a religious background or not, the lessons in this movie are ones we can all embrace: love your family, hold onto hope, and never stop believing that better days are ahead.
Ultimately, Unsung Hero inspires us to be better—not by achieving perfection, but by choosing love, forgiveness, and gratitude in our everyday lives. It’s a film that speaks to the human spirit, reminding us that the real heroes aren’t always the ones in the spotlight but the ones who quietly love and serve their families, changing the world in the process.

The family-friendly flick grossed $7.8 million, per Box Office Mojo.
Based on for KING + COUNTRY’s Joel and Luke Smallbone’s family, the movie sees the Smallbones move from Australia to the United States in the ‘90s after their father, David, loses his music company.
“The heartbeat behind the movie is this: I believe in the power of family. I think family is more important today than it ever has been in the history of the world,” Luke told Mike Huckabee.
