MBBS admissions delayed, and first-year engineering classes may be reduced.
The delay in commencing medical admission is likely to result in the curtailing of first year engineering classes by as much as two months, said officials here. The counselling for students seeking engineering seats should have begun on July 2. However, for the benefit of medical aspirants who also enrolled for engineering admissions, the process was postponed till the finalization of MBBS admission by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Tumblr media
A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education (D0TE), which conducts Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA-2023), said there was no information from NMC regarding medical admissions. “Though the NMC has asked time till July second week to conduct medical counselling, the students who have enrolled for engineering courses are anxiously waiting to join,” he added.
Due to delay in completing MBBS admissions, the opening of colleges for first year engineering students would be postponed from the original schedule of September third week. “Even if the medical counselling begins in the second week of July, the admission process will go on for at least two weeks to get a clear picture to know how many aspirants who registered for both medical and engineering seats will opt for medical colleges,” he said. As per All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) schedule, the engineering counselling should be completed by second week of September. However, the council has given extension.
If engineering colleges commence first year classes by November, it would mean the academic year for these students would be truncated by around two months, the official said, adding that classes would not begin from day one, as there would be an induction programme for students for a week. “It would take at least a month to begin full-fledged classes…
We will instruct the colleges to make up for the time loss as per their convenience,” he said. Nethra B, who holds the top rank in the merit list and opted for Computer Science course at Anna University, said she was eagerly waiting to join college.
Nethra secured 598 out of 600 in the Class 12 board exams. However, medical aspirant S Mahalakshmi, who secured 200 out of 200 in the merit list and came first among the government school students, said she was waiting for the medical counselling to begin soon. “I hope MBBS admissions will begin shortly,” added Mahalakshmi, who scored 331 in NEET exams.

short chapter!!! but i think this one is so sweet <3 i hope u all enjoyed it!!!
suna's pfp for y/n is a little thumbprint heart. idk. i thought it was really cute and simple and it didn't rub my brain the wrong way like every other picture i tried did LMAO
@eggyrocks and @wyrcan ARE THE COOLEST PEOPLE EVER!!! AND HYPED UP THIS CHAPTER'S SONG W ME SO U SHOULD GO HYPE THEM UP FOR EVERYTHING THEY DO
i thought this song was especially cute <3 thinking of it in a way of when suna "gets back" to osaka with yn he's gonna love her so well yk <333333333333
i hope that makes sense <3
and iwaya station is a train station in kobe, hyōgo that connects to umeda station in osaka so i thought that was a cute little thing too :))))
omi is trying to enjoy his break but is watching atsumu start freakouts on twitters with his out of context tweets and then suna's posting graffiti on main with osamu, atsumu, and oikawa so he's stressing a little
suna uses his main and private accounts interchangeably, basically like y/n, who posts her pictures on main and then goes into more detail about them on her private where only a few people can see it so she won't get in trouble
osamu always comes back to osaka earlier than the rest of the coffee enthusiasts and most of the ride or die gc, just because he can't be away from onigiri miya for too long
y/n was kicking her feet giggling to kuroo and kenma on the couch of the living room in their apartment talking to them about how suna just told her he's coming back to osaka so they can spend new years together again <3
MBB AND RAVEN'S EYE PLUGS NEXT CHAPTER!!!!!! and maybe i'll see if i can sneak in inked again 👀

The fact that I can pull contextual evidence with images & references from across 34 hour+ long episodes of television that connect narratives, character arcs, themes and writer values only to have “but the writers would never do xyz” thrown in my face by someone who has only ever watched scenepacks and referenced cons as evidence to defend a ship is the wildest fandom experience I’ve ever had.
Like? Friend. Matt and Ross “we were surprised by our audience because we made this show for film nerds like us” Duffer are already doing it. They didn’t just put the brakes on one of the most popular shows on TV in solidarity with all TV & film writers for you to take 14-19 year old MBB’s headcanons, actor jokes and a face-level reading of the narrative (one they've had mapped since before the first episode & know the ending of) over their deeply interwoven subtext and award-winning storytelling. They’re not stupid.

Study sheds new light on severe COVID's long-term brain impacts - Published Sept 24, 2024
By Lisa Schnirring
More than a year after COVID-19 hospitalization, many patients have worse cognitive function than those who weren't hospitalized, a symptom that comes with reduced brain volume and brain injury markers on blood tests, according to a new study, the largest of its kind in the United Kingdom.
The multicenter study from the COVID-CNS Consortium included 351 patients who were hospitalized for COVID and 2,927 matched controls. The researchers, led by a team at the University of Liverpool and King's College London, published their findings yesterday in Nature Medicine.
Looking for brain-fog markers Study goals included understanding biological causes and long-term outcomes of neurologic and neuropsychiatric complications following COVID hospitalization. Researchers tested participants' cognitive skills and examined findings from brain scans and blood tests 12 to 18 months after hospitalization.
Greta Wood, MBBS, first author of the study and an academic clinical fellow in infectious diseases at the University of Liverpool, said in university press release that many patients hospitalized with COVID report persistent symptoms, often called "brain fog."
"However, it has been unclear as to whether there is objective evidence of cognitive impairment and, if so, is there any biological evidence of brain injury; and most importantly if patients recover over time," she said.
Cognitive deficits resembled 2 decades of aging Of the patients hospitalized for COVID, some did and some didn't have new neurologic complications. The researchers found that both groups had worse cognition than expected for their age, sex, and level of education.
One of the most striking findings was that post-COVID deficits in hospitalized patients look similar to 20 years of normal aging. The team also found that people who had been hospitalized with COVID had reduced brain volume in key areas and abnormally high levels of brain injury proteins in their blood.
The team saw the greatest deficits in people who had the most severe infections, had post-acute psychiatric symptoms, and had a history of encephalopathy.
In a promising finding, longer-term follow-up of 106 patients pointed to a trend toward recovery.
Could other severe infections cause similar problems? Benedict Michael, MBChB, PhD, the study's corresponding author and professor of neuroscience at the University of Liverpool, said COVID isn't just a lung condition, and some of the most severely affected patients are those who have brain complications.
That the cognitive impairments occurred alongside brain-cell injury markers and reduced brain volume on magnetic resonance imaging suggest there may be measurable biomechanisms, he said. "Now our group is working to understand whether the mechanisms that we have identified in COVID-19 may also be responsible for similar findings in other severe infections, such as influenza."
Gerome Breen, PhD, a study author and psychiatric geneticist with King's College London, said the work might be helpful for guiding similar studies of patients with long COVID who had milder respiratory symptoms who also report brain fog and for the development of treatment strategies.

i'm going to have to totally disagree with that poll about el's sexuality. the issue isn't her orientation or ability to have sexual attraction, but rather her emotional support system. a healthy understanding of the physical and emotional consequences of sex is an important learning curve for anyone, but for her, who has been abused and grown up in a lab, much of her formative years being skewed and used for ulterior purposes?
she's got a lot to learn, and s3 was clearly a breakout moment for that teen girl normality with her and max. they brought this back for s4 too, with the memory callbacks and max being the memory that was associated with el at the end. stupid boys, etc. this surely is what el's whole emotional arc/family arc/autonomy arc is about.
we also have el responding in a very child-like manner to max's comment about happy screams. yes, it's girlhood naivete, but MBB plays up the slowed-speech with El at times, and i think it's to show that certain topics really go over her head.
but sexuality is also innate and can appear very early, so i don't think it's a case of her needing to be older or whatever. its just that the duffers arent exploring el's sexuality in a way that's about discovery, like mike and will's, but rather about a girl who was sexualised too young (mainly by brenner, accidentally by mike - i mean he kissed her out of the blue for god's sake and she looked shocked af), and who needs to now move away from sexuality and romance for a while.
whether she's ace etc is part of her self discovery, and i think the show wants you to root for her taking her time to function as an emotionally stable young woman, not care about romance and love. that's a joy that can come later for her, but it's not going to be her endgame.
i really dislike it when mi-levens say its ableist to suggest el has special needs, meaning literally has special requirements to function in society. of course she does, and why is that bad? if anything, to remove her access to specialist support after her traumatic upbringing is toxic and damaging. mi-levens deny el the support she needs in order to fulfill their ship, saying that it's rude to suggest love and romantic companionship is weak. of course it's not weak - all humans need love and wanting romance is not weakness. but el needs time to figure out what she wants and who she is outside of the lab. she even says in s3, mike is just her first boyfriend. the show could not have worked harder to show us that her and mike don't work (which is a way of saying that el+romance doesnt work right now). what else do they have to do to convince people that el's arc isn't about romance or her sexual orientation??
Please note that the purpose of this blog is not to be creepy or to make anyone uncomfortable. That's why I created the #spicy byler tag (I will tag all polls with this). If you don't want to see this blog or anything related to it on your feed, please block that tag. Not everyone is comfortable with this sorta stuff, and that's okay.

Just finished watching stranger things. Is bad that I find El/Eleven a little overrated and over hyped? I dont hate her character. Its just the other characters are more interesting and relatable. She's just not my favorite. Plus the actress is not my favorite either. Love Sadie Sink as Max though. She's my favorite character. Joyce is second.
nah, i've said almost this exact thing before. millie's acting is like, genuinely impressive, especially in season 1 because they were all so young at the time (and i make an effort not to get parasocial and weird about actors in the first place because... what's the point? they're just doing their jobs) (That Man's face has started to annoy me though), but el herself is just like... there. she's badass and all, girlboss girlpower girlslay, but that's kind of it?? and other characters do it better tbh. this might be why MBB is so sick of playing and being known for eleven; a lot of it does seem quite boring to film, and stranger things has been going on for years of her life at this point
i've found a level of relatability with el recently because i realised her arc is realising that she doesn't need romantic love in her life to be a whole person, which is HUGE for me because aroace characters are still so rare, but even then it's just like... okay :) that's nice :) because there's not that much TO her
el is just kind of... blank. in terms of backstory and character. she doesn't feel like a real person who could exist in the real world. she literally grew up in a mostly white room with a few rainbows on the walls, and a key competent of her overall story is that she has no idea who she is - which makes you feel for her as she tries to figure it out, but also makes it harder to connect with her. they're all fictional characters but even within that context, el is a fictional character, because no one's life looks like that, y'know? (at least not the backstory. the part where she has no idea who she is is kinda relatable, but if i'm already living that why would i also want to watch it? i already know that it's not that interesting. it's actually incredibly dull)
so many badass female characters look like el, where they have to be trained their whole lives to be badass while male characters can just pick things up, with the sexist implication being that women are inherently less adaptable and capable than men unless A Man turns her into a weapon through years of training, and then she can be badass. the show is aware of this trope, because they combat it by having nancy as the regular girl next door who learns to be a badass like the men typically would (jonathan tries to, but he's a terrible shot, and then they realise that nancy's a phenomenal one), but when you put el next to nancy and max and robin who are all so much more grounded and relatable to me as female characters (who i always feel more of a connection to, because they're Like Me), obviously i'm gonna go for them more
+ max and joyce are probably my favourites too :)

Hey! I'm about to start my medical college journey & am a little confused about the books to read in the first year. Could you please help me? I looked thru your blog & it seems like at your uni they follow a pattern and timeline similar to the Indian medical system, so I thought I'd pop by & ask you for some advice :)
PS: Love your blog, really inspirational!! 🩵 I'm a ex-French learner myself & your posts really inspire me to restart.
Hey, first of all, congratulations and welcome to the Fraternity!
As for the books:
Anatomy
General anatomy : get the bdc or vishram singh general anatomy pdf or get the book from library once you are in college and give a read to important topics and go through the terminologies. You can read general anatomy now, before you go to college or during your foundation course classes
Gross anatomy : The preferred book by students is BDC but i read vishram singh. It has very easy to remember diagrams and things are given in points, i suppose you will feel easier to understand and remember. May be, you can go to a store and see both books and decide (goes for all the books, I'll write here about my personal experience only)
Embryology : Get a langman from senior or if it is okay, buy it too. It's an international book but quite good. You don't have to go through everything but the important topics. Vishram singh embryology is also nice. I got to know about it just few days before exam but it was nice. And please don't neglect embryology. Your friends and seniors will say that it doesn't matter, it does. I suppose i could have got distinction in anatomy if only i had read embryo properly since in paper 1, i couldn't write one answer at all. (Like distinction is not everything, it's just kind of an achievement that can boost you?)
Histology : we read IB singh and mostly, our class notes.
Osteology : Again, class notes. But i guess, poddar is being followed here. I had the pdf. So, see if your college has good teacher who teaches you well, take notes of the bones and revise them. Well, vishram singh gross books also have bone sections and its quite nice.
Physiology
Guyton is the best book. If it is possible for you, get that book either from a senior or from a store. Seniors will tell you otherwise most of the time unless you are in AIIMS or the top colleges. Don't listen to them. I regret not studying standard books, they are gem. But you have to start from initial days and again, make notes of important topics. For exam purpose, you can read your notes and Sembulingam. Thats a nice book. You can keep a pdf. We used AK jain too. But in case you are reading Guyton, making notes and using Sembu, you don't need it. And get the AK jain practical book.
Biochemistry
The standard books are Lippincott and Harper. They are review books. Other than that we followed Satyanarayan or Vasudevan. Satyanarayan is better for exams i feel. Since its like a note. You can keep one of them as physical book and other as pdf. Keep whatever pdf you get actually. And as you proceed, you will get to know about more study materials like Jambulkar. That's nice note but use that as a revision tool.
In our college, for practical in biochemistry, we real our practical copies only. So, i have no idea what other colleges follow for practical
Do join telegram channels, you will get whatever pdf you need and important topics. I will suggest you to read every topic but make notes or proper annotation of important topics and of course, revision of them.
That's all i can remember now. Its not like you need to buy all the books right now itself. See those books in library or get the pdfs and go through random topics and whatever you feel nice, you can buy it. And as i said, keep all pdfs. Mbbs is not like preparing for neet. There will be topics easier to understand or easier to present in exam in different book than yours. But you cannot buy all books so pdf works. And do feel free to ask whatever doubt you have!
PS : This means a lot, thank you! And you can definitely restart your language lessons too.

~'Flushed, dilated pupils, and that weird text. Clearly, Sherlock's back on drugs, right?' A worried Detective Inspector Lestrade decides a drugs bust is in order. Little did he know, the new drug that Sherlock's got himself addicted to is much more... human. And blond. And a doctor.~
Signs of Life by DefNotForWork
~The Yarders have a pretty well developed view of Sherlock Holmes. Cold, cruel, dispassionate and robotic. He simply doesn't register as human. As Sherlock and John fall farther and farther in love with one another, however, the proud men and women from NSY find themselves facing irrefutable evidence as to the true existence of a heart in Sherlock Holmes.~
The Imaginary Boyfriend by Oliver_966
~John and Sherlock met after Johns first leave, and have been in a relationship for years. Sherlock hasn't ever mentioned this to anyone at the Yard, and when he does they turn it into a joke. Sherlock doesn't care though of course, because he knows his John is real.~
Homecoming by nbcravenstag
~Greg Lestrade always knows when there's something wrong with Sherlock Holmes. When the detective stops talking, stops eating, doesn't come to crime scenes, and barely moves from the red chair in 221B, Greg starts to worry that he's using again, and this time, he's in too deep to be helped. That is, until a certain soldier shows up at a crime scene.~

Winona seems to be doing abit too much on this press tour talking about how she knew Sadie & Timothee were gonna be something special when she first saw them I mean Sadie's latest film flopped (the one that went through name changes) & I guess everybody has already forgot about Timmy's Hamas jokes on SNL & the fact that he is dating a fellow zionist in Kylie Jenner for 2 years now I just don't like these double standards & biases esp from these grown adults yet I've not seen anyone defend Noah
Hmmmm. Can't say I'm following her press tour too much though I like Winona a lot for the bulk of her actual acting career. I'm really not interested in this sequel though 😕 I also don't follow Timmy or any Kardashians. Kinda under a rock about their personal lives or views - but I feel like Winona must have worked with him if she's singling him out? Can't speak to that but I mean, clearly she has a bond with her coworker Sadie and has spoken positively about her before, and wants to support her career. Even if there's some MBB beef she's not gonna blatantly call her out I bet, reading implications between the lines is a different story, even if I think that was clear shade. So she's not gonna say "oh I love working with Sadie but that girl put out a shitty film." I don't think speaking positively about these two young stars careers is condoning every little thing that's ever happened around them. Also, talented people can have shitty opinions and make questionable choices. Hollywood is a minefield of contradictions. Nuance. Be thankful we're only observors.
And hasn't she spoken kindly about Noah? Clearly Noah and Winona are very close based on the info we've seen him share via stories and his letterbox reviews. I just try to stay positive and neutral about these things, focusing on the actual reality of the cast's relationships with each other rather than expecting every relationship to be clearly defined by a neat little public service announcement of viewpoints and opinions on each other.
