And that’s because we aren’t entirely happy with ourselves. When do we get a break! That time we snapped at the kids and you thought nothing of it. It stays with us. The time we missed that gym class because of everyone else. It wasn’t about the exercise. It was about our recharging for the week. The time we quickly ducked to the shops to get something... not every time, but on occasion we would have loved to stop and get our nails done; but feel guilty because we don’t want to leave you to deal with a sick or an overtired kid on your own. So we rush straight back even though you didn’t need it. It’s important to remember to give us time. We won’t always give it to ourselves. We won’t always recognise that we need it. We won’t even always have a plan for the time. But we will appreciate it. We won’t need much. We won’t waste it. And we will certainly come back feeling a million times better about ourselves. So when we need to duck out. Tell us not to rush back. When we have a coffee date or gym class. Be home and remind us to leave with time to spare so we aren’t rushed. When we comment on our regrowth; remind us to book in our next appointment. And in that moment we have been away for a while and you know we have been thinking about the family again... send us a text reminding us not to rush back and to go and take more time. Do that... you won’t need to do much more. But do that and we will not only love you more in that moment. But we will love ourselves more. And that’s all you could ever want. Don’t let time get in the way of us loving ourselves.
