Hope AU where If Ino discovers the real reason of the Uchiha Massacre and about Shisui’s mysterious death, Girl she would do anything in her power to keep Sasuke away from the village. She will be on Sasuke’s side no matter what. Sasuke will be the executioner, Ino is the schemer and the voice of reason. Now thats a ride or die squad that Konoha gonna watch out for.
Imagine they would reunite together. In the Fourth Shinobi War and all of Konoha 12 is there. They would stare at each other first in disbelief. And then went for a big reunited hug. (Sasuke reciprocates of course) Because their brothers are now dead and they are the remaining siblings left and they now will do their utmost power to keep each other safe. Konoha 12 is in a shock (except for Shikamaru and Choji because they know the truth). Damn How will Sakura and Naruto react to this? Sasuke doesn’t react much affection to them. And now they saw these two hugging in a sibling-like manner and Sasuke even reciprocates?
Hmmm I'm not sure tbh, Anon, because the big difference between Sasuke and Ino, of course, is that Sasuke lost absolutely everything and Ino lost one person. She still has her friends, family, and sanity (not to mention the whole bloodline/sharingan/Mangekyou complications with Sasuke, trauma, and Itachi)
The truth to Sasuke made him question his entire life and avenger mentality, that all along he'd been gunning for the wrong (technically) person and that it really was all Konoha's fault, since his clan had also turned against the village before the massacre so he, in a way, is following their footsteps.
Ino, however, still has everything except Shisui, she's likely never questioned her loyalty or her own place in Konoha and she still has a great deal tying her to the village. Sasuke leaves because he thinks there's nothing left for him, even before he learns the truth; I couldn't say the same for Ino.
I've talked about her relationship with Sasuke and their... Understanding, shall we call it, in this post which also has a link to a drabble prompt I did:
Ino and Sasuke don't have a good relationship as kids, Sasuke was raised in a pretty insular way (surrounded by Uchiha cousins, more interested in his brother than making friends, the traditions and expectations on him) and he never approved of Ino's claims that Shisui was basically her brother, believing that blood was everything (the big point in how I look at Sasuke and Ino's relationship).
Similarly, Ino never liked Sasuke - in HOPE AU they're very much rivals and there is no crush - and was extremely hostile and defensive against him, something Sasuke matched blow for blow. I think, post massacre, Ino would try to reach out because, hey, we're both grieving, and Sasuke would absolutely hate her for it because he never thought she had any right to his cousin in the first place.
(There's a chapter in Tomorrowland where Ino processes her grief... Including getting into a very ugly fistfight with Sasuke when he denounces her)
After discovering Danzo's betrayal and the real cause for Shisui's death, the Uchiha massacre, and understanding more about Sasuke's abandonment, I really think the most you would get out of either of them at that age is a grim, hard earned, recognition of the other. They're not friends, no, but they can at least recognise the other's perspective now.
I think, long term, their relationship would go one of two ways;
One, they exist in this unspoken truce. Lots of solemn/hard/knowing eye contact, slow nods, skirted around topics. They never speak of it beyond the necessary, but they exist in a shared kind of silence.
Two, they find a way to coexist with the other's grief. Sasuke might unbend enough to give Ino the Crow Summoning contract, since he already has the Snakes. Ino gets her teeth capped and finally gets to speak to Shisui's Summons, learning another side of him and gaining more allies in her grief. Sasuke might learn to live with Ino's company, in a sarcastic exchange of barbs, he might ease his way into a very strange friendship with her because she, at least, understands a little better and doesn't look at him like he's pitiable or someone to be executed (she looks at him with anger still, and it's so familiar it's almost comforting).
Them having a heartfelt and demonstrative relationship... I think, for that, the key problem is that Sasuke is deeply possessive of his grief and Ino, as much as they have a loss in common, just cannot understand. Sasuke never acknowledged her relationship to Shisui, not until the reality was that Ino was going to Mindwalk him and very possibly lose her shit at what she found there. Literally and emotionally embracing Ino relies on Sasuke thinking that Ino is a valid participant in his grief and loss and Sasuke... Doesn't think that

You know how Itachi was all like I have the kotoamatsukami set to activate with contact with my eyes, and I plan on using it on Sasuke because I know he will want the power of eternal mangekyou. The funny thing is Sasuke actually refused Obito when asked if he wanted Itachi's eyes. It wasn't until the prospect of fighting Naruto that he had Itachi's eyes implanted. Like he was letting himself go blind because he didn't want Itachi's eyes. He went into the five kage summit already losing his vision from his fight with Bee, but he couldn't fight Naruto like that. That would be holding back. He wanted to fight Naruto with everything he had. It really just goes to show how little Itachi actually knew of Sasuke. Yeah sure Sasuke did get his eyes eventually, but only after Naruto declared they would fight and die together. So it wasn't just for power like Itachi proclaimed. Sasuke only ever really sought power to fight Itachi. That's what pushed him to seek Orochimaru. Yes Naruto and Sasuke have their rivalry and they push each other, but Sasuke would not have sought power from Orochimaru if it were not for Itachi traumatizing him to that degree. Orochimaru even used revenge against Itachi as a lure, while Naruto had the opposite effect on Sasuke. Sasuke even going so far as to give up his life for Naruto in the land of waves. Giving up his revenge. So yeah my point is Itachi's plan was very flimsy.
that is so fuckin insane and also true bc while the reason sasuke didn't want to tamper with itachi's dead body was bc he learned of his truth, I would argue that he still wouldn't have taken his eyes even if he never learned the truth. Sasuke would have been so depressed having completed his life's only goal at 16, and the idea of having any more of Itachi's influence on him would disgust him. he would have no motivation to get stronger nor any reason to despise konoha.
what's also crazy is that like. anyone could take and use itachi's eyes. Obito was right there- who could at the very least have taken one of the eyes to replace his missing one (it's muddy if he would have been able to get EMS in his right eye bc you have to take eyes from someone with "strong blood ties" to get EMS (parentheses in parentheses sorry for the ADHD but what if "strong blood ties" just means you have to have the same blood type but the ancient Uchiha didn't know about blood types and just ran away with the idea that you needed to be siblings due to happenstance and romanticism)). literally danzo existed, someone itachi knew has stolen sharingan in the past!!!! fucking orochimaru, who has a known grudge against konoha and has wanted an uchiha from the start!!!!!!!!!!! but even with all of this, itachi STILL only claims to have planted the kotoamatsukami for Sasuke. they could have so easily have said that itachi planted the crow in Naruto bc itachi saw Naruto as someone who would be at the front lines of konoha enough to confront any one of these supposed eye thieves on the off chance that thief was against konoha.
but no. he thought it of sasuke. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey. So when do you think Sasuke realised his true feelings for Naruto? I feel like he knew since part one itself, in some way at least. He was aware of something. When Sasuke tells Naruto his body moved on its own, I feel like there were seeds of realisation or at least a trigger point. In Shippuden, he always seems like he is fully aware of his depth of feelings for Naruto, he gets super emotional because of it. The fact that he is driven to ask Naruto again and again about his feelings, and is disappointed except for chapter 698 proves that he knew this feeling was somehow different, and he wanted understanding from Naruto, maybe to validate his own feelings, since he is equally inexperienced if not oblivious like Naruto.
He knows deep down that Naruto is special to him, he adores Naruto privately, he had since before the genin days. At the end of vote 1, I think he realises it fully, his true feelings for Naruto. What do you think?
Wonderful Ask, Anon!!! 😍😍😍.
[[Lengthy Post ahead]]
WHEN DID SASUKE REALIZED HIS TRUE FEELINGS FOR NARUTO?
I am damn sure, like 100%, the moment he realized his true feelings is when he thought he was going to die and recollected all the memories he shared with Naruto (including the Accidental Kiss and Roasting Sakura for insulting Naruto) for one Last Time in the Land of the Waves Arc.
Tumblr media
You might be thinking now, "What makes you so sure?"
Well, Kishimoto just hammered into our faces in many plotlines.
Tumblr media
How is this panel has to do anything with Sasuke?, You may ask.
The answer is here.
Tumblr media
"You will realize what you are, as death comes to embrace you".
Itachi, no matter how cold he acted before Sasuke in that battle, he simply couldn't keep up his Evil Brother act at the final moment of his death.
He just smiled. That is who Itachi really was and always will be for Sasuke.
Again, you may ask, 'All this happens much later in the series, Kishi might've had a different mindset back when he was drawing part 1'.
You are right. But Kishi's mindset was the same all the time. He even established this 'True face before Death' theme very strongly in Land of the Waves arc itself.
Tumblr media
This is who Zabuza really was. He didn't treat Haku like a Tool. Infact, his final words were, "I wanted to go the same place as you".
Kakashi made sure to convey this message to Haku in the War Arc, when he fought with the Edo Tensei'ed Haku and Zabuza.
And there are many characters who died in this series. Almost all of them projects their true feelings before their death. Just rewind the deaths of Nagato, Yahiko, Konan, Obito, Madara. You might've noticed that there won't be any lies. For Example, Obito. When he died for the first time, he was really thinking about Kakashi and Rin. He even said, ‘I wish I could’ve spent more time with them’. That’s who Obito really was. He was convinced with that Tsukuyomi plan because he wanted to live in a dream world where Rin and Kakashi will be with him happily.
So, a person, at their final moment thinks only about all their memories shared with that 'precious' person signifies only one thing. That person must have unconditionally loved the one they thought about.
Sasuke realized that he loves Naruto at that moment and he had no regrets because he smiled before falling into Naruto's lap.
Tumblr media
And I always wondered, 'Why did Sasuke thought only about Naruto? Didn't he have any other good memories other than the ones he shared with Naruto?'.
Well, this goes way back when he was just 8, right after the Massacre. Yes, the chapter 698 confession. But I am not going to attach all the panels here as I will go in-depth about it later in this post.
However, there are three panels that provides the general gist of what Sasuke felt about Naruto, the whole time.
Happiness:
Tumblr media
Whenever Sasuke watches Naruto, he reminded him of his family and it made Sasuke 'felt relieved' or 'feel warm and fuzzy'. Simply put, Naruto's presence made him happy.
And did Sasuke ever felt relieved?
Yes, he did!!
Tumblr media
This above scene happens sometime after the massacre and yet, somehow Naruto could make him smile even in that distressful situation.
And this is one recurring feeling which Sasuke experience whenever he comes in contact with Naruto. After the Massacre, somehow Naruto became his source of happiness or relief. This panel right after massacre, that smile before his ‘supposed’ death, on seeing the Great Naruto Bridge with a relaxed smile, VoTE2  smile.....
Sasuke smiled at all these scenes and you know the reason why!!!
Weakness:
Tumblr media
This is exactly opposite from how he felt earlier. And this conflicting thoughts are what Sasuke was battling in his mind throughout Part 1 and Part 2 until Chapter 697. He liked Naruto's presence. But, For him, the very thought of bonding with him made him feel weak.
According to Sasuke, the stronger he bonds with someone the more he has to worry about losing them and the very thought of losing them will put him in a precarious position which is considered as a weakness. And Sasuke doesn’t want to experience this again.
Meaning, Sasuke doesn’t want to feel the pain of loss over someone, ever again. He wants to be the person who don’t care about anyone.
Did Sasuke ever expose his weakness?
Yes he did!!!
Tumblr media
This is his absolute display of weakness and this is what he always wanted to avoid. The very thought of something is going to happen to Naruto made him do something that put him under immense pain.
Yes, In his mind, he doesn’t want to care about anyone’s loss. But his body doesn’t seem to listen to him. And that’s why his body moved on it’s own.
God!!! This made me cry!!!!
Pain:
Tumblr media
Now, this feeling Sasuke had towards Naruto was very evident in the War Arc. That one time he sensed Naruto’s Chakra in Konoha and asked Orochimaru to hurry up. Also when Naruto was bawling after seeing countless shinobi’s deaths, Sasuke’s reaction changed from ‘I don’t care 😶’ to ‘How dare you😠’, I consider all these moments where Sasuke was bothered about Naruto . But since, I want to focus only on Pre- Land of the Waves moments, I’m not going to add those moments here.
Did Sasuke felt pain in Part 1?
Of course, he did!!!
Tumblr media
Well, I always consider this scene as something ‘very personal’ for Sasuke.
In this post, I’ve written about how chapter 3 is masked by the ‘Accidental Kiss’ as a comical facade but when you analyze it deeply you will find that Naruto and Sasuke’s rivalry thing goes long back, even before the series started.
After hearing Pinky’s insensitive comment, what Sasuke did here was completely extreme. He was just giving her a ‘Murder Stare’ which was way too extreme for Naruto, if he was just a teammate. When in reality, Naruto was not just his teammate. That’s why I think Sasuke was bothered by this insensitive comment and roasted her because he knew Naruto was suffering from this loneliness ever since he saw him when he was 8. And when someone made fun of his loneliness, Sasuke just couldn’t keep quiet.
Isn’t this some form of feeling pain of the person you care about and standing up for them?
Tumblr media
This is another scene which I don’t have to go in detail about.
On my first watch, I always wondered, ‘Why Sasuke was making exceptions for Naruto? They just know for a very few days and yet why was he giving his lunch and standing up for him, which he doesn’t have to in the first place? It’s just 2 episodes in and Sasuke has already made 4 exceptions, why was he doing this?’
But after watching Episode 478, I came to the realization that Sasuke did all these because he knew about Naruto before the series even started.
It’s funny that before this scene, Sasuke was giving his long-ass serious speech to Pinky about how he is an avenger, he was crying at that time, he wants to get stronger than someone and wants to kill him, he can’t waste his time here..... And yet when he saw Naruto suffering from Hunger, he just gave his lunch without minding the consequences. (Ninja Career says Hello!!!!)
Now, Let’s get back to my previous question I posed here,
Why did Sasuke thought only about Naruto in his final moments? Didn't he have any other good memories other than the ones he shared with Naruto?
The answer is, ‘Sasuke always felt any one of the three extreme emotions such as Happiness, Weakness, Pain in the presence of Naruto. And all these 3 extremities are not something you feel for everyone unless that person shares your blood or the person you love unconditionally. Sasuke, at this point has no one that shares his blood plus the only blood relation left was the one he wants to kill. And since Sasuke thinks he is going to die, he doesn’t mind thinking about his happiest moments with the person he considers as ‘precious’ , because somehow Sasuke considers Naruto as ‘His Person’ or you can say ‘a part of himself’’
And that’s why I think Sasuke realized his true feelings just when he was about to die.
At the end of vote 1, I think he realizes it fully, his true feelings for Naruto.
I had this same thought before, anon!!! But after multiple re-watches, I realized something else. You cannot realize your true feelings and say a painful ‘Good Bye’ at the same time.
Realizing true feelings works only in two ways,
You either say a ‘Good Bye’ to someone. After leaving that person you may realize you miss that person and eventually you may come to term with your feelings.
Or
You already have a strong feeling established in your heart and say a painful ‘Good Bye’. And VoTE 1 belongs to this category.
Simply put, Break ups and Love realization cannot happen simultaneously.
And that’s why Sasuke casually said, “To me, you’ve become my closest friend” without any hesitation. Because he already knew it otherwise obtaining Mangekyou Sharingan (MS) will not be possible if you don’t have such a strong feelings established already.
That whole battle started off as a way to obtain MS but then it changed into his desperate attempt to cut off his bond with Naruto to become stronger and only killing him can sever it because it’s such a strong one. It’s not a bond that will be severed by saying a simple, ‘Thank you’.
Tumblr media
At this moment, Sasuke must be realizing he simply cannot cut off this bond and he is again making an exception by letting this one weakness to exist and embracing it by being closer to him for one final time.
And this is one of the hauntingly brilliant way of conveying A Connection indirectly. And the best part is... this scene is not accidental. We know Sasuke felt stinging pain in his arms and knelt down & coughed up blood. How did he end up straight above Naruto’s face?
It’s because Sasuke simply wanted to convey his unbroken bond with Naruto by deliberately leaning towards his face. Rain falls on Sasuke and all those droplets passes through Sasuke’s face and falls upon Naruto’s face or it is very possible that Sasuke might by crying and his tears might be touching his face, but either way, it creates a Connection which he couldn’t able to cut off. In the fillers, Sasuke’s sweat drop falls on Naruto. It’s almost similar to how at the end of chapter 698, both of their blood connects together to form a connection. Which means only death can separate their connection.
That’s why I feel that this is the moment where he is painfully saying his Good Bye for one last time, it pains him immensely because he already knows that leaving his ‘precious’ person who became a part of himself is not very easy added to that he hurt him so much during the battle. And for this reason, Sasuke felt ‘leaving Naruto is like ripping off half of his body’.
He knows deep down that Naruto is special to him, he adores Naruto privately, he had since before the genin days. What do you think?
Sasuke always fights this inner battle within himself. Mind Vs Heart & Body.
His mind says, ‘No more Bonds. Just stay alone. That will save you a lot of pain’.
His body says, ‘Create Bonds. Feel Relieved’.
When Sasuke met Naruto near the lake pier, His body wins the battle and that’s why he smiled back at him despite the trauma he went through few days earlier. This is when Naruto became special to him.
When Sasuke attempted to make friendship with Naruto. His body wins the battle and that’s why he offered food, trained along with him.
When Sasuke died for Naruto by casting away his dreams, his body moved on its own.
At the beginning of VoTE1 battle, his mind said, ‘Leave Naruto. Pursue your dreams by treading in a darker path by filling your heart with hatred’. His body said, ‘Be with Naruto. Achieve your goals by filling your heart with Love’.
By the end of VoTE1, Sasuke came to the conclusion that he really couldn’t sever his bond with Naruto, no matter how hard he tried. That’s why his body moved on its own and ended up straight above Naruto’s face for one last time. Carrying all the heart break of a painful breakup, Sasuke treads towards the darker path. For the very first time, Sasuke’s mind won the inner battle. And he was extremely saddened by it.
Throughout Shippuden, Sasuke mostly listened to his mind and whenever he does, he was seen pushing Naruto away like leaving with Orochimaru, ramming chidori through Naruto’s Shadow Clone when pursuing Itachi, promising to kill Naruto before Attacking Konoha, wanting to fight with Naruto in VoTE2.
But whenever he followed his heart, you can see scenes like Sasuke occupying Naruto’s personal space in Orochimaru hideout, Sasuke smiling at Great Naruto Bridge, asking Obito about Kyuubi (Naruto) when he joined Akatsuki, stopping his rampage on seeing Naruto’s eyes under The Bridge, asking Obito to wait and listened to Naruto under the Bridge, sensing Naruto’s chakra in Konoha and getting concerned about it, prioritize saving Naruto over everyone in the War Arc, switching off Sharingan at the last moment. These are all the moment where Sasuke’s heart was winning over his mind.
And finally at the end of VoTE2, Sasuke happily claimed, ‘I lost’, meaning, his mind which always asked him to cut the bond with Naruto lost to his Heart and Body which always wanted him to be with Naruto. And when Sasuke felt that he was unconditionally loved by Naruto who was willing to share his pain, Sasuke cried happily and finally sealed his Bond with Naruto.
But anyways, I still get this question, why do Sasuke had to battle his feelings for Naruto like a lover? And why Naruto had to act all Tsundere towards Sasuke for most of the Part 1 if only they are friends!!! Like Shikamaru was never shown to be acting tsundere towards Chouji or Naruto. Or Obito was never shown to battle his feelings towards Kakashi!!! Itachi was never shown to be obsessed about Sasuke all the time. Or Hashirama was never obsessed about Tobirama either. Like we were shown many fraternal bonds, friendly bonds throughout the series. And yet why none of those bonds fits for Naruto and Sasuke?
Well, this post is not the right place to cover these questions and I am simply going to leave it at that.
Sasuke realized it very early and that’s why he decided to push Naruto away by the end of Part 1. Whereas Naruto truly realized his feelings at the end of Part 1 and decided to put himself close with Sasuke in Part 2 and finally confessed in VoTE2 that, ‘Remember, you once gave me your food during the Bell Test? It’s because you simply can’t tolerate to watch me suffer before your eyes.... I also feel the same way about you.. I simply cannot see you suffer alone when you were willing to give your body to Orochimaru... It just hurt me a lot inside’.
They finally realize the feelings they had for each other is a love in a broader sense which cannot be labelled under a certain term (it may include a father, a mother, a friend, a lover too) and we can call them as Pure Soulmates, where one cannot live without the other, where one cannot bear to see the other one suffer and they always wanted to be standing next to each other sharing their happiness and pain in their hearts.

A Parting Gift
TRIGGER WARNING – major death, heavy angst, you have been warned. Please read this fic at your own risk or skip this if you are not comfortable with this kind of content.
———————————————
This wasn’t supposed to happen.
“MAMA!!!” Sarada screamed as she ran back.
This wasn’t supposed to be happening right now.
It was too sudden, only moments earlier, a man had infiltrated Sakura and Sarada’s hideout in the outskirts of Konoha territory, deep in the forest. Many enemies had been targeting the sharingan, forcing sixteen year-old Sarada and her mother into hiding. Sakura sensed the intruder as he had tripped a well-concealed trap. Sakura roused Sarada and quietly ordered her to escape. Sakura would deal with the intruder. Sarada had slipped away roughly a few hundred meters away when the first sounds of the scuffle broke out, leveling the land and the trees. The fighting shifted to an open clearing before all sounds stilled. Sakura had not yet caught up with Sarada when she was about a quarter mile away. Disobeying her mother’s orders, as Sarada sensed something was wrong, she turned around and headed back.
Sarada quickly neared the scene of the battle, a feeling of dread mounting in her heart.
Then she saw it.
The glinting blade descended from the sky swiftly impaling Sakura’s chest, through her body. Despite not piercing Sakura’s heart, the chakra-charged weapon disrupted and distorted the regularly beating rhythm of the cardiac muscle.
Sakura’s figure suddenly stalled. It was like slow motion in Sarada’s eyes. Whoever this rogue ninja was, from what Sarada’s sharingan could see from the distance, possessed the sharingan, but the chakra surrounding his eyes seemed different from “natural” Uchiha chakra. There were only three true sharingan left in the world: her father, Sasuke Uchiha’s, singular sharingan and her own paired set. Hers were the only ones still with their original owner.
Tears blurred Sarada’s vision as she watched her beloved, but powerful mother struggle against the blade as she mustered her strength. Blood flew out of Sakura’s mouth as she coughed violently. Sarada continued to race towards her mother, but she was still too far away to help. Oh, if only she could teleport like her father!
“GET BACK SARADA!” Sakura roared, byakugou flaring to life and snaking around her body. The wound partially closed to seal off the blood flow for a few precious minutes. Sakura reached forward, grabbed the blade protruding from her chest, pulled and sank it deeper into her chest, through her body, surging forward towards her attacker. Fist raised. Charged.
“MAMA STOP! Just get away from him!” Sarada cried out desperately.
“NO! They’re not taking you! They will not have your eyes! Not on my life! And not on your father’s! SHANAAROOOOOO!!!”
A final yank on the blade propelled Sakura forward. The glowing fist connected. It was the hardest chakra-enhanced strike Sarada had ever witnessed from her mother. A shockwave radiated from the point of contact, catching Sarada off guard, knocking her off her feet. Sarada flew backwards, slammed into ground, the wind knocked out of her lungs. The last thing she saw was the rogue shinobi flying away from the contact, the last thing she heard was a loud reverberating crack as her mother’s opponent plummeted into the ground from the impact. The ground split open and boulders, debris and dust hurled into the air.
In the next second, the rocks driven upward by the explosive impact of her mother’s chakra-charged fist, rained down
As the dust cleared and settled, Sarada slowly got up, frantically scanning the vicinity for her mother. She spotted her mother lying on the ground a few yards away, sword jutting from her chest, with her characteristic pink hair, blood-stained, in the epicenter of the battle that took place.
Sarada raced to her mother’s side and kneeled down, clutching Sakura’s hand.
“No, this can’t be happening, not you too.” Sarada whispered, feeling for a pulse that was erratic and faint, weakly beating.
“Sarada, look at me,” Sakura’s voice whispered, hoarse, but tender. Sad, but proud and confident.
“No. No. No.” the tears fell from Sarada’s eyes and onto her glasses, obscuring her vision.
“Mama, you can fix this, you have the byakugou, I have byakugou, we can do it! We can summon Katsuyu-sama,” Sarada begged, knowing that her plea was empty.
“No sweetie, you need to keep storing chakra for your byakugou, it’s not ready yet. Something about that blade’s chakra upset the rhythm of my heart. I can already tell it can’t be reset without withdrawing the invading chakra, resetting the network and hours of surgery that Katsuyu-sama alone cannot perform. I would need a top medic team and Shizune-san to operate on me. From my brief analysis, this isn’t an injury to heal, it’s a disturbance, my wounds and heart would heal physically but the rhythm would still be incorrect and slowly kill me before I made it back. This enemy clearly knew who they were dealing with, and he also knew where to find us. Our location must have been betrayed and I think he must have once crossed paths with your Papa. But at least they won’t take your eyes. You’re safe, my love.”
“I can’t lose you too, papa is gone already.” Sarada didn’t realize, but her sharingan was spinning erratically, already changing due to the loss of the greatest love of her life, her mother.
“Two sharingan transformations in one year…and a new one at that...” Sakura murmured. “Sweet child, listen to me, while we still have time, I need you to come closer to me and close your eyes.”
“I can’t, I want to see your last moments.” Sarada vigorously shook her head.
“Just do it,” Sakura whispered urgently. “I’m not sure if this will work, but I need to try.”
Sarada looked at her mother in wonder, “what is—“
“Hurry!”
Sarada complied and snapped her eyes shut, leaning in, though the tears were still freely flowing. Sakura pushed Sarada’s glasses aside and gently touched her eyelids. Warmth emanated from Sakura’s hands. The soothing chakra flowed into Sarada’s eyes, but something else akin to power and rejuvenation did as well. This chakra felt different than usual from healing chakra, Sarada gathered, but could not figure out what her mother was trying to do.
After a few minutes. Sakura’s hands left Sarada’s eyelids. Slowly, the hands moved to remove Sarada’s glasses.
“Open your eyes, Sarada.”
“But I can’t see without my glasses.”
“It’s okay, I think you can.”
Sarada slowly opened her eyes and looked at her mother’s green ones. The byakugou seal had disappeared from Sakura’s forehead. Sarada gasped in realization. Her vision was clear and sharp. Sarada quickly looked around her, at the dead rogue ninja corpse, to the destroyed clearing, and back at her mother.
“You really do look so much like your father without those glasses.” Sakura chuckled weakly and ever so lovingly. Taking a shaky and deep breath, “it looks like my forbidden jutsu worked.”
“What did—?”
“I imbued your sharingan with my byakugou seal. Effectively, I also repaired the genetic mutation in your eyes that caused myopia. I’ve been secretly working on this jutsu because I didn’t want you to go blind from the mangekyou sharingan that awakened when your father died. The infusion of byakugou was essentially to grant you the properties of eternal mangekyou sharingan, in theory, so that you can use your eyes freely. The amount of chakra contained in my seal is now within your eyes and will, for the rest of your life, continually heal the damage inflicted from using the mangekyou. You have no sibling to donate sharingan eyes to you, so with my jutsu, the blindness that would have occurred from using your mangekyou, will not happen to you, I made sure of it. I was saving this jutsu for the day I no longer needed my byakugou seal,” Sakura, paused, a dry cough escaping from her lips. “Darling, you need to find who stole your father’s eyes and reclaim them. The clue lies within this man’s body. You must have noticed too, he had mutated his own eyes to sharingan eyes. They are not the original. They must have gotten the DNA from your father’s eyes.”
Sarada’s trembling lips kissed her mother’s forehead. “I will find them—promise. Thank you... I-I love you ma-ma--,” Sarada’s voice broke.
“I’m going to join your father soon,” Sakura said softly, reaching up to touch Sarada’s face, tenderly stroking her cheek. “You are destined to be the first Uchiha to become hokage. Bring peace and love we are still sorely missing back to the world. I know you can do it, you’re such a brave and smart girl. I’ve... always loved you so much before you even existed... be strong, my love.”
Sakura’s face broke into a last brilliant and radiant smile as she reached up with two fingers and poked Sarada’s forehead one last time.
With the loss of the byakugou seal, a few more harsh breaths, Sakura’s hand grew limp and slowly fell away from Sarada’s face. Those beautiful green eyes once so full of life and vivacity, glazed over, their light extinguished forever.
Sarada crumbled. She bent over her mother’s body and screamed, wailed and cried like her heart had shattered into a million pieces.
Sarada cried until she no longer had any tears left. As the last wracking sobs left her body, Sarada steeled herself and slowly rose to her feet, resolving to return her mother’s body to Konohagakure and lay her mother to rest next to her father’s grave. Biting her thumb, Sarada quickly drew a seal and summoned Katsuyu. Somberly, the slug bowed down to honor her late great master with a brief moment of silence. Sarada choked back sobs that threatened to tear out of her throat once more.
“Katsuyu-sama, please transport the rogue ninja’s body back to Konoha for investigation. I will follow with my mother’s body.”
“As you wish, Lady Sarada.”
Gathering herself, Sarada activated her newly transformed sharingan and cast Susanoo. This time, it was perfect because of her mother’s parting gift. Reaching down with Susanoo, Sarada removed the sword from and lifted her mother’s body, cradling her. Slowly she turned in the direction of Konoha village, to head back and inform the village that the last of the neo-sannin, her mother, had been killed in action.
———————————————
Closing thoughts: Hey everyone, thanks for reading! I am so sorry for that. I would be lying to all of you if I said I didn’t tear up while writing this. This hurt me so much. But I had this idea for a long time (this has been sitting in my drafts for over a year now) of a workaround for Sarada’s eternal mangekyou sharingan given she lacks siblings in canon. I have always hesitated to post this because of the major character death(s) (if we include Sasuke’s and Naruto’s) and I didn’t want anyone getting angry at me ^^;
I definitely made up more than a few plot points to get the fic going, but the main purpose of this fic was to just explore the idea of how Sarada would receive a work-around to the eternal mangekyou sharingan and for me, the idea was from Sakura developing a forbidden jutsu behind the scenes to treat Sarada’s vision permanently and Sakura administering the treatment on her deathbed. I also just really wanted to explore the emotions that would have occurred in such a scene, and some of these quotes have already been in my mind for some time. I could see this potentially being a multichap fic with how it is set-up with loose-ends and it would be Sarada-centric as she tries and tracks down who is behind the killings of the neo-sannin and getting Sasuke’s eyes back, but I am going to leave this as a standalone one-shot fic.
Also feel free to yell at me if I didn’t tag this correctly, but I do believe it counts as a SasuSaku and SasuSakuSara fic.

SasuSaku Canon Divergence Fanfics (Genin era)
I have made a list of some of my favourite SS fanfics that deviate significantly from canon during the genin era.
** **
Stay by @southsidestory (Complete, M)
Sakura begs him not to go, so Sasuke stays. And year by year he falls a little more in love with the girl he couldn’t leave behind. (AU in which Sasuke never abandons Konoha.)
Five Petals by PrecariousSauce (Complete, T)
Several things happen all at once in less than a minute’s time. Sakura’s elbow slams into Sasuke’s side from an angle he doesn’t anticipate, sending him tumbling end over end off the branch. Sasuke rights himself just a second too late and without checking where he’s going to land– When he does his knee twists, he feels a lightning bolt of pain shoot from his sole to his head, his leg gives out. And Orochimaru’s teeth sink down to the gum in Sakura’s shoulder.
There are two sequels to this work: Intermission and Yamazakura
Intermission (Complete, T)
Nobody can put their life on hold for two years, not even for Naruto. Time skips like a stone over water, making contact every so often and getting a glimpse at what's below the lake before flying further. Sakura conspires deep below the earth and Sasuke lives one day at a time.
Yamazakura (In-progress, T)
Everything Sakura’s been working toward, all her efforts over these two years in the dark will finally bear fruit. She can feel her headband sitting heavy in her weapons’ pouch. She resists it’s call. She can only wear it again when her mission ends, however it ends. Sakura takes a deep breath and opens the door. Time to shed her skin.
if you can't hold on, hold on by Fiercest / @fiercyy (In-progress, T)
Sakura always wished she could relate to her teammates better. She wishes she could take it back. In which Sasuke acquires some unwanted roommates and a team becomes a family.
Crepuscule by chidorinnn (Complete, Gen)
Sasuke accidentally hits Sakura with his Chidori while fighting Naruto on the hospital rooftop and awakens his Mangekyou Sharingan three years too early. Then it all goes downhill from there.
** **
I have excluded time travel fanfics from this list, since I have already made a separate list for them here. I might make another list for my favourite Shippuden-era canon divergence fanfics 😊

Hello again,
It hasn’t even been a day but you’ve enabled me and I have zero shame so I’m absolutely going to dump all my obito brain rots on here. Please do tell if it gets a bit too much. I’m going to focus on his Kamui and Mokuton Obito pre-rin’s death (I don’t think I’m using that hyphen correctly). Obito was displayed as a pretty piss poor shinobi, which, FIRST OF ALL, is a ‘fact’ that was never actually backed up properly??? The only consistent comparison we got was he sucked compared to Kks which is a given considering who tf kakashi is. Also in the like the game version (???) Obito performed the great fireball jutsu on the same level as Sasuke in their genin team test (There is actually so much shit I can say about how much of a fucking disaster Team Minato was as a whole but thats another topic for another day) which Kks was impressed at as teacher so??????? I feel like at least a little bi t of his inadequacies was exaggerated, but maybe thats the different standards between war and peace times. He probably was mediocre in taijutsu, basic weaponry (kunai and shuriken) and like, two jutsus. I headcannon that Obito isn’t actually fire natured, and maybe it wasn’t realized until Madara or something because Uchiha With Non-Fire Natures? A pretty rare and bad occurrence. But Obito-post rin’s death? The MS and wood style was definitely a game changer. First of all, the mangekyou gives each user a specialized ability, which I believe has some connection to their mindset/subconsciousness, like by itself the MS is just a block of clay and the instantly activated the user it’s molded into something to suit its user. Kamui allows Obt to phase through shit and gives him his own personal. DIMENSION. Delving into characterization here, a key aspect of Obito pre-rin was his aspirations to be Hokage and be acknowledged. The hokage needs to be really strong, strong enough to be unbeatable and untouchable. Meanwhile, at the time of activation, Obito was experiencing a traumatic event, more specifically he was denying his best (arguably only) friends death, not accepting the happenings of their world, which led to the personal dimension. With the mokuton, half of his boy was replaced with Hashirama/plant matter, so theres a chance he can use mokuton because of that, which would explain why he didnt need water or earth nature chakra. Another explanation, is that Obito was actually water natured, with fire as his secondary and earth as his third. If we’re delving into Messenger/No Tomorrow fic lands then I wholeheartedly believe that Kagami would have been water natured, which would also explain why he was Tobirama student. Also hc Obito’s parent were senju descent, which automatically granted him the genes needed for mokuton. Another note, his mokuton was a lot different from Hashirama and Tenzou/Yamatos, which I think is how the wood style is suppose to actually look, so I think its a mixture between him actually not having earth style, which makes his wood style more natural and plant related, and the fact that half of his body is literally made of that shit. I also have such A conundrum with how,, the prosthetic looks??? Like Madara was trying to enhance the mokuton side, so yeah there’ll be some changes to its appearance but why is it fkn white? Why not like a more plant like appearance. Imagine if the prosthetic was a mesh of tree branches that twist into the shape of a arm, that’ll be so much cooler than whatever the hell the white gooey shit is. Going to the mechanics and technicalities, how does the Kamui dimension work? Was it already constructed upon activation or was it just Space that Obito had to manipulate into existence? I like to think the kamui dimension was already constructed upon activation based off Obts mental shit or some other shit, but he has control over it; like he can choose what visitors of his dimension can see, like the sharingan with genjutsu but instead of eye contact its just,,, his entire dimension. I also hc he can teleport anywhere without needing anything else because its His place? And it’s also easier
Honestly..... SIGH the things that apparently make academy students who graduated 'impressive' literally... Has no consistency. Anyone can be like 'oh wartime vs peacetime' but somehow I really don't think Obito was much different from... *Checks smudged pen on my palm* Asuma or Kurenai or Genma or Rin???? Like Kakashi was a ridiculous child but no one said anyone was EXPECTED TO BE THAT LEVEL???? Kakashi is literally that level because Sakumo was a single parent who took that baby ON missions with him and shit whereas you have Obito coming in like a civilian-raised kid because they made it clear (ish, as with... everything) that Obito had no one but Rin in his life (which means no help but all the judgement). So Kakashi gets private tutoring from birth by a man who is noted to have been even BIGGER than the Sannin during the second War whereas Obito raises himself in the Uchiha Compound, gets no help from anyone (remind you of anyone? Maybe the PROTAGONIST) and yet manages to come out of the academy around the level of everyone else 🤔
Tbh! Tbh tbh tbh!!! They COPPED OUT with that prosthetic! Give him a bark-effect at least, sheesh! Also the missing eye thing, they deffo couldve given him a mokuton-related eye if they were able to give him a whole-ass arm and chunk of torso like...c'mon C'MON they could've given him a GROOT arm! IT COULDVE GROWN AND SHIT!!!
Yes! There seems to be a Mangekyou-scape even without activating the ACTUAL Mangekyou technique. Shisui, sparring against Itachi, won immediately by bringing Itachi into a different landscape that Itachi could never break out of. Itachi, when he uses his torture technique, can alter other people's consciousness into an environment of his choosing without committing to the actual Torture Aspect of the technique. So, with Obito's Kamui, i deffo think the mindscape is something he can craft! It's dark and stoney and desolate and i think that's pretty damn symbolic
Yes, i HC the same kind of travel-cheat with Summons! In my fics, Shisui and Itachi send Crows back and forth rapidly because the Crows can pop in and out of the Realm wherever the summoners are and it makes total sense for Obito to be able to CHOOSE where he steps out again. It's like the flying thunder god without having to leave markers or being able to be blocked!
Okay next ask haha

Wrong Spot
Obito went back in time to change things, but this was not the point in time he’d intended to go...
Stupid jutsu.
Obito scowled at the corpse before him as he cursed the inefficient jutsu that had him standing here, once again.
After everything that had happened with the Fourth Shinobi War, life hadn’t exactly been ideal for him. Chucked into prison (not that he didn’t deserve it, because he definitely did) with his only human contact being ANBU guards and sporadic visits from Kakashi, when the village could spare him. That happened more and more infrequently once his old friend took up the Hokage hat. Not that it was on Kakashi for the shortened visits, no. Obito knew that was on the council.
For five years …Maybe? Yes, five years… he sat in that prison, content with his fate, knowing he deserved it. He did the whole ‘reflecting on his life’ thing, going over his mistakes, and how he’d change things if given the chance. And it was that last bit that had him recalling a certain jutsu he’d heard of, one that Orochimaru had created. Obito remembered that the Sannin had started the research for it while he was in Akatsuki, and had heard over the years that he’d figured it out as well.
After some serious back and forth contemplation on the idea, Obito eventually decided that he would track down the snake and get the jutsu from him. He’d make sure to change things so thousands didn’t lose their lives because of himself, Zetsu and Kabuto. That the jinchuuriki were never ‘harvested’ for their bijuu. And most importantly, that Kaguya was never resurrected.
It took a bit of time to track down the Sannin, but eventually Obito found him.
“Obito,” he was greeted with that smooth, slightly creepy, voice. “I’d heard you’d run off. And you came here to me, I’m honoured.”
“Cut the crap,” Obito snapped. “I’m only here for that jutsu you created, the one for time travel.”
A single eyebrow rose in what Obito was certain was mild amusement. “My jikandōrini ryokō suru jutsu?” he asked, his tone most assuredly amused, with a touch of intrigued. “And what exactly do you want with that?”
“I intend to go back and stop the war from ever happening,” Obito said. “And other things that led up to it as well.”
Orochimaru chuckled. “Such a noble pursuit,” he mused. “I must admit, it’s an intriguing idea. Just one of the reasons I created the jutsu in the first place. However, as enticing as it may seem, I was never actually tempted to use the jutsu myself. Too many uncertainties, not knowing what price I’d have to pay, and no guarantee that it would actually change anything in the end.”
“What do you mean by that?” Obito demanded.
“Simply the fact that there’s no way to know for certain what the effects and consequences will be,” he was told. “For instance, you could end up creating an entirely new time line, which would leave the time you left behind still intact. Or you could indeed end up changing everything, destroying what had previously been instead. That also carries the risk of vanishing once something is changed, or even wiping yourself from the time line altogether. Not to mention the fact that if you go back to a point still in your lifetime, there’s no way of knowing whether you’ll go back as yourself, or end up in your younger body.”
“Necessary risks,” Obito decided to dismiss. “Even if I do not change this time line, things here are stable enough to move forward, and if I do disappear, well… It’s not like this time line would be at a disadvantage without me.”
Silence for awhile, and the two stared one another down. Finally, Orochimaru sighed, and said, “Never let it be said, anymore at least, that I’m never willing to help out. Very well, follow me.”
He led Obito through his base to a secret room with scrolls lining a book case against two of the walls. “This is where I keep all of my more… interesting research, whether they’re deemed useful, or not. Now, where is it?”
He strode along the shelves, searching until he came across one of the scrolls. “Ah, here it is,” he murmured. “Jikandōrini ryokō suru. Roughly paraphrased, to Travel in Time.”
“How exactly does it work?” Obito asked once the scroll was in his hands.
“The directions are simple enough to follow,” Orochimaru spoke. “So long as one understands basic sealing and comprehends space time ninjutsu. Neither of which you should have a problem with. Once you activate it, you’ll need to choose a destination, but be warned, the accuracy could use a little… fine tuning.”
“Fine tuning?” Obito scowled.
“No need to worry,” Orochimaru said. “It shouldn’t put you off more than a few months. So you should make sure you leave yourself plenty of leeway.”
No more than a few months, pfth! Obito glowered at the corpse before him… This was years off where he’d wanted to end up! Still, at least it solved one problem, even if it created more. He’d performed the jutsu perfectly, according to the instructions. It had taken almost all of his chakra, but he’d done it. Barely. But this time and place prevented him from saving the one person he’d wanted to save the most.
Undoubtedly this was the universe’s way of punishing him for everything, and for violating the rules of time and space.
Rin was dead. Dead. He knew that, because right in front of him was Uchiha Madara’s corpse. The old man had kicked the bucket, dying right in front of him after bestowing the name of Madara upon Obito, like it was some sort of honour. He sneered down at the corpse. Stupid fucker! He kicked the old man’s leg.
Obito sighed, then reached down to take one of Madara’s eyes. They were stolen sharingan already, his forefather having already pilfered them from some unknown Uchiha back when he’d had his own implanted into Nagato in preparation for his plans. Thanks to the combination of Senju and White Zetsu cells in him, it was easy enough for Obito to implant the sharingan into his left socket, along with using basic medical ninjutsu to aid the process.
Then he shot a katon jutsu at the old man’s corpse and watched him burn, until not even Kabuto would’ve been capable of bringing him back.
Turning around, Obito searched out Black Zetsu with his senses, finding him some distance away. Using his current absence to his advantage, he activated his Kamui and transported himself to his other dimension, settling in to meditate so that he could accurately pinpoint the control seal that Madara had put on him. Once he had, he stood, focused his Mangekyou, then stepped to the right, feeling immensely satisfied to sense its absence from his body.
At least now Black Zetsu couldn’t use it to control him.
Next came the White Zetsu attached to him. Obito forced them out of him, a much easier task than removing the control seal.
“Wh-what?” one spoke as three of them emerged from his body. “But how…?”
“Did you really think I hadn’t noticed you there?” Obito snarled at them, pulling out a kunai. “Please. I’m not the naive boy you expect me to be.”
In swift movements, he took them out. Once they were dead, he jumped back into Madara’s base, and immediately headed off for the Gedo Mazo statue. Once he located it, he activated his Mangekyou, sending it to his Kamui dimension.
“Why did you do that?”
Obito turned to see that Black Zetsu had returned.
“Because I had a change of heart,” he told him, obliquely referring to the control seal, then used the Mangekyou once more to sever Black Zetsu in half. He quickly followed up by sending the remains through to that acidic dimension that he’d discovered while searching for Sasuke during the war.
Once that was done, he had no trouble hunting down every last White Zetsu that existed, and once completed, he wondered what was next. Should he continue to find those who had contributed to war, however directly or indirectly, such as Danzou, Nagato, and others? Should he go back to Konoha? He found himself to be more than a little terrified of that last idea.
The Uchiha still lived. Minato-sensei and Kushina-nee were also still alive. Even though they all thought he was dead, how would they react to seeing him again? He knew that Kakashi had been devastated as he lost comrade after comrade. The old Obito thought he deserved it, for letting Rin die. But really, it was his own fault in the first place, blabbing to Madara all about Rin. Her death was on both their hands.
He was hesitant to return, worried about how he would be received, especially at this point. If it was known he was alive, well… Technically that would make him a nukenin. He supposed he could play the ‘I was a prisoner’ card, which wasn’t all that far from the truth. He’d only gotten out in time to witness Rin’s death because Madara and Zetsu had orchestrated it.
Feeling mentally and emotionally (and perhaps temporally) exhausted, Obito ended up deciding to sleep on it. Come morning, he would either return to Konoha, or continue working from the shadows, this time in order to prevent the type of war he’d waged the first time around.
