IN DEFENSE OF BOOKS: THE BRAIN GRENADES WE NEED.
It’s official: I can mark myself safe from the shame of not blogging. My business manager (who also happens to be my wife) and my agent can finally breathe a sigh of relief that they have content to use to help people find me and my books.
I won’t pretend I had this planned. Truth be told, I’ve wrestled with the question for a long time: what information or knowledge could I possibly share?
Turns out, the answer was surrounding me the whole time—on every wall of my home office, stacked in bulging boxes in storage, piled on the floor, towering next to my bed, in baskets in the bathroom: books.
Thousands of them - Two thousand thirty books, plus thirty or so odd new ones that haven’t made it into the custom database I created. And, thousands of PDFs saved by the terabytes on drives, sticks and countless piles of coffee-stained paper.
I’m not talking about cozy reads or trendy titles. These aren’t books found on Oprah’s Book Club or recommended as the must-read in the latest issue of a glossy magazine (I think these retro paper relics still exist?).
I’m talking about heavy-hitters, no longer (actually, never) read in traditional school, often no longer published, sometimes banned, that cracked my mind wide open and left me gasping in the rubble of my once innocent worldview. I’m launching this series with the kind of books that demand a seat at the grown-up table:
The Naked Communist by W. Cleon Skousen
Propaganda by Edward Bernays
The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (because not all revolutions wear suits)
READING MATTERS—ESPECIALLY IN THE AGE OF DOOMSCROLLING
Here’s the cold, hard truth: Reading is on life support—and it’s taking our ability to think critically down with it.
In 2022, just 48.5% of U.S. adults read a book for pleasure. Ten years ago, that number was 54.6%.
Only 14% of 13-year-olds read daily in 2023—half the rate from a decade ago.
Screens are up. Empathy is down. Critical thinking? Circling the drain.
Neuroscientist Maryanne Wolf argues that "deep reading" builds the kind of reflective, empathetic minds that make society work.
UCLA’s Patricia Greenfield found that screen saturation reduces analytical thinking. Want proof? Just scroll your feed for five minutes.
And yet, people toss aside books like Crossing the Rubicon or Wall Street and Bolshevik Revolution—which offer blueprints for decoding today’s chaos—in favor of whatever got 10 million views on TikTok.
We’re trading intellectual resistance for algorithmic obedience. It’s easier to swipe than to question. But that's exactly how did we end up in a world where nobody asks why.
“READING IS NOT JUST A MATTER OF ACQUIRING INFORMATION; IT IS A MATTER OF LEARNING TO THINK FOR YOURSELF, WHICH IS WHY SO MANY IDEOLOGUES WANT TO CONTROL WHAT YOU READ.”
-THOMAS SOWELL
20 YEARS, 2,000 BOOKS, AND COUNTLESS BREAK-THROUGHS AND BREAKDOWNS LATER…
I’ve been tearing through nonfiction for decades.
Not for a degree. Not for clout. Certainly not for popularity (I’ve lost more friends than I’ve gained).
For survival.
Titles like The Crowd and The Big Bamboozle didn’t just pass the time—they gave me a lifeline and kicked me into action. These weren’t beach reads. They were how-to guides for spotting BS in a world addicted to spin.
The Naked Communist revealed the playbook behind creeping ideologies.
Propaganda and Crystallizing Public Opinion laid out how the masses get manipulated.
The Gulag Archipelago taught me the cost of staying silent.
Lord of the Rings reminded me that nobody can change everything.
These books aren’t just thought-provoking—they’re thought-detonating. They are thrilling and enlightening.
They are not always an easy read or pleasant to think about. Some of them are terrifying and will keep you up at night, brain racing and stomach churning. More importantly, some are complete garbage and written by absolute lunatics or disinformation organizations. I’ll stay away from those and let them remain in storage.
But that’s the idea: these are books that will make you think. And question. And wonder. And doubt. And believe. And hopefully act.
Their words didn’t just inform me—they transformed me.
Somewhere between the grind of chasing a 401(k) and the soul-death of the goldwatch life, I woke up. I penned the story that would become The Willing Fool Series between about 2010-2015 while stuck in a soul-sucking corporate consulting job.
It was during this time, traveling every week, spending lonely nights in hotel rooms away from my wife and four kids, that this story became my escape. I didn’t sit down to write a book. It just sort of happened.
In many ways, it saved me. In many ways, I am Leroy O’Malley and he is me. He is also so many of you, and you are him. Leroy O’Malley is what modern America became and what I hope it can be. You will have to read the series to see what I mean.
Sounds a bit depressing, but I promise, it’s a fun read.
Think Wag the Dog meets Fight Club meets 1984, but with more Florida, more grit, and way more Fargo vibes thrown in.
My wife says if Carl Hiaasen, the Coen Brothers, and Jeff Lindsay had a love child—and men could actually have babies (they can't, for the record)—my writing would be the result. Twisted, funny, and a little dangerous.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS SERIES
Each post will spotlight a book that cracked open my skull in the best way possible. Expect:
Quick, sharp summaries
Occasionally irreverent commentary
Real-world connections to media, politics, religion, and more
Social posts with opportunity for discussion, strong opinions, and very possibly some disagreements.
I’ll break down titles like The Fourth Turning, Esoteric Hollywood, Aeon (trust me, it’s wild), and Secret Societies and Psychological Warfare.
Whether it’s Don Quixote tilting at windmills, Bernays steering public opinion, or Bertrand Russell promoting the ‘expert’ class, we’re going deep.
For the record, I’m not a professor or a scholar. But I can play rock riffs galore on my collection of epic guitars and because of that I can claim ‘expert’ status and ascribe it to any opinion I have…thanks Bert.
Occasionally I’ll post an album review of my favorite music and even delve into the equipment used, recording techniques, and anything else of note.
Other than that, I’m just an average American husband and father who fell down a rabbit hole of books and came out writing satirical thrillers and a blog about books. PH.D. be damned.

Unlocking Insights With NetSuite Analytics Warehouse: A Guide To Data Augmentation
In the realm of Business Intelligence and Analytics, NetSuite Analytics Warehouse (NSAW) emerges as a powerful cloud-based solution, seamlessly integrating various data sources to empower analysts and business enthusiasts. This blog delves into the features of NSAW, with a specific focus on its data augmentation capabilities aimed at enhancing the analytical landscape.
NetSuite Analytics Warehouse Features:
NSAW serves as a consolidated hub for diverse data sources, including NetSuite data, CSV files, and other business systems. It leverages the Oracle Analytics Cloud and Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, providing pre-built connectors, data visualization, KPI monitoring, and a streamlined data pipeline for NetSuite. The platform facilitates immediate access to pre-built dashboards with out-of-the-box key performance indicators (KPIs) and an analytics data model for in-depth NetSuite data analysis.
Data Export and Accessibility:
Export reports and dashboards to popular formats like PDF, PNG, PPT, and CSV.
Non-NetSuite users can access NetSuite information through NSAW. Custom Dashboards:
Create custom dashboards using both NetSuite and third-party data.
Create Custom Dashboards Using Both NetSuite And Third-Party Data.
This innovative process allows users to import and manipulate Custom NetSuite records, lists, segments, and fields, providing a comprehensive framework for nuanced data analysis. Within the Oracle NetSuite Analytics Warehouse, the data pipeline orchestrates the extraction and loading of information from NetSuite’s standard transaction objects, seamlessly integrating standard records into the warehouse infrastructure. What sets Data Augmentation apart is its versatility, enabling the utilization of both system-provided and customer-provided source tables. While system-provided tables undergo prevalidation, ensuring a standardized integration process, customer-provided tables represent additional custom transaction objects available for extraction.
Benefits of Augmentation:
Granular Customer Insights:
The augmentation process allows for the creation of detailed customer segments, offering nuanced insights into customer categorization.
Subject Area Integration:
Integrate the configured Custom Segment into specific subject areas within NSAW, facilitating a cohesive analytical environment.
Enhanced Decision-Making:
By seamlessly incorporating customer-type information into Sales Orders and leveraging NSAW dashboards, businesses can make informed decisions based on a comprehensive understanding of customer profiles.
Use Case
Within Netsuite, suppose we establish a Custom List titled ‘Customer_Type’ and populate it with options such as ‘New Customer’ and ‘Existing Customer.’
This Custom List allows for the inclusion of various values. Consequently, when selecting a customer from this list in a Sales Order, it will display whether they are a ‘New’ or ‘Existing’ Customer.
Please note: this information will only appear if the ‘Customer_Type’ value has been previously assigned to that specific customer.
To achieve this customization within NSAW, we utilize the Augmentation Process. Upon configuring this list, utilizing the dashboard within datasets allows for easy identification of ‘New’ or ‘Existing’ Customers.
Conclusion:
NSAW’s data augmentation capabilities empower users to import and visualize custom NetSuite records, lists, segments, and fields.
This functionality significantly enhances subject areas, enabling the creation of tailored reports and dashboards to meet specific analytical requirements.

Playing an Astronomer
If playing an astronomer in your game interests you but you don’t know what class to use, I’ve gathered a few options you could pick, from simple subclasses to separate classes. Pick what works for you!
Artificer- Astronomer (5e homebrew subclass, GM Binder)- This is another subclass option for the artificer, like artillerist or alchemist, and it has an interesting and unique set of feats that come with it. It doesn’t add a whole lot of spells to the artificer’s already existing list, but it does add some things not previously open to artificers. Astronomer (5e homebrew class, DM’s Guild)- A fully separate caster class, with two different archetypes to choose from; Diviner, and Star Tamer. Diviner works off using your knowledge of the stars and celestials to predict the future for yourself and your enemies with feats that further allow you to manipulate what you see and change fate, to some extent. You can completely redo your turn and make it like you never took your turn thanks to the Written in the Stars feat. You can redo attack and damage rolls, attempt difficult tasks, and even make skill checks to gain information, which you don’t lose when you reset your turn.
Star Tamer, by contrast, is a bit more damage focused. You get a familiar and wings with this archetype, and at 18th level you become totally immune to both radiant and fire damage thanks to the Supernova feat. This class has feats that fit both archetypes well. And, the creator of the class has a note in the bottom of the PDF that allows for adding/removing things (such as spells, which I personally did for my eventual iconic because the ‘official’ spell list lacks the Crown of Stars spell and that’s just a shame.) so you can really be versatile in how you play your astronomer.
Stargazer (Pathfinder prestige class, Paizo)- This one’s a bit different, it’s a prestige class for PF which means you couldn’t make one outright, you have to hit some specific requirements in a base class first. The stargazer class grants a few things from the Wizard and Witch classes, such as familiars and the ability to cast hexes from the Witch’s hex list, and mixes in with things like Oracle revelations. It’s a good add on for an already existing character, with several options to enhance their abilities every couple of levels.
Astronomer (3.5e homebrew base class, Minmax Forum)- This class, as it’s laid out, is very complicated and complex. I’m not sure even I understand it fully. The astronomer has ‘phenomena’ they can “observe” (when you’re really creating them), they’re essentially your spells. They’re limited by your surroundings, called ‘conjunctions’, which essentially means the phenomena you can observe are limited by if it’s day, night, or if you’re somewhere you aren’t able to tell what time of day it is. The author has included a few tables that explain the various phenomena and conjunctions, both superior and inferior. It’s got roots in actual astronomy such as using various astronomer’s tools like an astrolabe or a spyglass to gain new skills and spells, which I appreciate personally, but again, this is a very complicated class layout.
Astronomer’s note: This is by no means an exhaustive list, and I haven’t play tested any of these except for the 5e Astronomer. Be sure to ask your DM before you use any of these, if you use them in a TTRPG.

Years of design. Thousands of playtesters. Evocative art. This Compendium brings KibblesTasty's most popular systems together into a single book containing:
Two full classes: the Psion and the Inventor (commonly called "Kibbles' Artificer")
12+ subclasses tying into the themes and mechanics of Psionics and Arcane Technology!
Items, spells, feats, monsters, character building tools for the new classes, and optional world building tools for integrating psionics and fantasy technology to your world!
Kibbles' Crafting System - Blacksmithing, Alchemy, Enchanting (making wondrous items), and much more (everything from Cooking to Wand Whittling and Scroll Scribing!) - all artisan tools have a use here!
...all clocking in at 230+ pages of content all designed and extensively playtested for 5e D&D.
Loaded with original art to give life to its content, I want this book to be an exciting thing to flip through; a true compendium of ideas.
In addition to the Hardcover Compendium, there are a few ways to experience the content:
The PDF will feature everything the hardcover does, in a digital format.
The Class Handbooks are standalone soft covers that contain everything needed to play that class (Psion or Inventor). Great for people that only want that or to get in addition to the compendium to hand out to players.
The Crafting Reference Guide is the whole crafting system as a standalone thing in a softcover booklet.
The most popular homebrew Psionic system for 5e and its eponymous Psion! Bring the most popular missing playstyle of 5e to your group! A flexible class with a lot of opportunities to specialize in what sort of mind (or reality!) bending hero they want to be! Along with the Psion comes a selection of psionic subclasses that tie into its features and bring Psionic crunch and flavor to other classes.
The Psion can be fully previewed online. The version that will appear in the book will be an updated version combining more playtesting feedback and professional editing into making a definitive edition to the beloved class.
Contains the subclasses Awakened Mind, Unleashed Mind, Transcended Mind, Wandering Mind (the Nomad!), and of course the astral construct creating Shaper, each of whom wield a Discipline from Telepathy, Telekinesis, Transposition (manipulate space and dimensions), Psychokinetics (manipulate energy), Enhancement (enhance material forms), or Projection (project the contents of your mind into the world!), the unique model of the Psion allows each subclass to have one core Discipline from their subclass and another of their choice, allowing extensive flexibility and combinations, without ever getting to mystical levels of complexity or compounded effects.
What will be new? Item support! Feat support! Extended tools for backgrounds and character building! Optional tables for character details, backstory details, and more, as well as a suite of things that makes Psionics a better and more seamless fit for your world, and, of course, an update to be fully OGL. Plus it'll get even more new art to have fully original art. Professional editing and proofreading!
The original Kibbles' class that started it all, now dubbed the Inventor! Forge what sort of hero you are yourself - choose from a wide array of subclasses and master gadgets, magical infusions, magnificent warplate, or turn more... experimental. Widely known as "Kibbles' Artificer" or "Alternate Artificer" this class served as the original 5e Artificer for many, and is still one of the most widely played homebrew classes - now updated to live alongside default classes and updated to its best form yet.
At the nexus of magic, technology, and creativity, it is a beloved class that has had tens of thousands of players try it out over the years.
You can explore the class for yourself, as it's freely available online. The version presented here will be a comprehensive overhaul that focuses on editing and clarity to bring about a definitive 3.0 version with all the features people love.
What will be new? This will convert it to the OGL system, bringing with it a double handful of new spells, a lot of new items, more new art to have completely original art, and a massive editing pass by professional and talented editors (not me!)
A comprehensive crafting system for 5th edition. You can forge a longsword with Blacksmithing and enchant it to +1 with Enchanting; you can use alchemy to brew a potion or concoct an explosive. This is a system that had a few core goals:
Let you make anything that exists in the game (as much as possible) and give concrete and extensible rules for everything else that could exist in your game.
Open the door to new kinds of loot. Allow a player to be excited by something they cannot even use because of the possibilities of what they can make it into. This opens the door to loot and rewards that make sense in a world and give the players incremental but satisfying rewards that build toward something they want.
Make it a player driven system. An aspirational system you can put in front of the players and let them drive toward their goals.
A system that is easy to use for the GM and players alike, but offers a satisfying depth.
The whole system is available on my patreon, but early versions of Blacksmithing, Alchemy, and Enchanting can be previewed to give you an idea of what this system will look like, as well as inside look into how it'll work. The beta system of Crafting will be made available to all backers of the Compendium (including PDF) or Crafting Reference Guide tiers. The completion and fine tuning of this system is one of the major pieces of crunch remaining to flesh out this book.
Beyond the large tentpoles of the design, there's a lot more: items (both mundane and magical!), spells (40+), feats, variant features, and more. This book comes packed with all the tools a player could want to play the options it presents as well as helpful tools for the GM to run these systems (as a GM twice a week myself, I keep your time in mind when designing any system!)
And in additional to all the crunch, this compendium will come with large sections about integrating Psionics and Inventors (and the style of magic-technology they can bring) into your world - they are entirely optional, but one of the most common things I hear from GMs and players is that they love the ideas, but aren't sure how they fit or what impact they'll have on world building - in this book will be a suite of tools and ideas for how they might be present, and what sort of things they add.

Kyoya's second shot
Episode three: Return of the bully
"What are you doing here?"
"I'd like to request Tamaki."
The twins paused, sharing a glance before looking at the girl once more. "You're blacklisted, remember?"
"No I'm not." She crossed her arms, looked like he'd have to step in.
Kyoya was at the twins side almost instantly, book in hand. "She was blacklisted last year yes, but this year she's done no wrong. You remember Tamaki's philosophy don't you?" He glances down at the twins, watching them frown and shrug, wandering around.
"The boss is weird, we don't trust her." They left to return to their post, disagreeing but conceding.
Kyoya looks down at Seika, his gaze crueller then she could ever manage. "Just tell him your banishment has expired, he'd be happy to welcome you back."
"Using Tamaki's philosophies against him?" She raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you a manipulative little homo~."
"Our agreement shall not be spoken of here, keep to yourself, princess." Kyoya gives a fake bow, gesturing towards Tamaki's table. "Have fun."
She approached Tamaki's table, Kyoya sighed and went to sit down, staring at the numbers on the screen. He glanced around for a moment before taking out his phone.
Shadow king: Eclair, have you spoken to that woman yet?
Woman: No, I've been busy. I don't see why I should talk to her when you're not even dating Rene yet.
Child: Who?
Woman: You'd know him as Tamaki.
Child: ah
Shadow king: It won't take that long, and convincing that dreadful woman will.
Woman: Ugh, at least get some progress done before you start hounding me you bitch.
Bitchboy: Speaking of which, my article is ready to print.
Shadow king: Send me a PDF.
An email arrived in Kyoya's inbox, with a link to a pdf file. He opened it, scanning down the page with a critical eye, opening a seperate application in order to edit it. No basic spell check, at least this fool knew how to spell and use grammar. But Kyoya did need to edit out most parts that painted gays in a bad light, making the story focus more on Haruhi and Renge and less on the fact that they're both women. He even attached an image of the duo holding hands, knowing full well that holding hands can often be platonic, but the girls at this school are basic, and will do anything to believe a scandal. He sent an email back, with the new link, and sent a message to the chat.
Shadow king: Post it.
At lunch, Haruhi complained that her new phone had none of her photos, she was sad to have lost all those memories. Kyoya had to sympathise with her there, he'd sort of assumed she used the cloud. Then her complaints changed when she realised her lunch box was missing from her bag- it had been stolen. As expected, Tamaki instantly rushed to her side, promising to buy her lunch for today, and she agreed, apologising as they left the club room. Huh. Tamaki didn't ask Kyoya to join today…
But it was ok, he was alone now. He made his way to Tamaki's bag, it contained two cards, Tamaki's own money, and the club's budget. Kyoya had the details memorised of course, that wasn't why he needed it. He quickly snuck over, and slipped the card into Haruhi's wallet, next to her own. He smiled cruelly, ready to play his part. He'd spent all night thinking about what he would actually do in that situation, so he's more than prepared for his starring role. Of course he'd prefer to not have the starring role, but he is the one who's in charge of finances, he has to react like he actually would.
He sits back down at the table, he needs a reason to ask for the card… he looks on his laptop, finding a little cafe in town that sold custom food platters, entirely customizable… oh, Tamaki did suggest a commoner food theme, maybe a customized platter for each host would be a good idea, and he and Tamaki could even go in person. Oh it was all coming together now! Kyoya had wanted to try some new makeup things, he'd mostly been doing the same face every day, it wasn't exactly catching any eyes by the second week. He should do something special for their day out.
Kyoya was practically bouncing in his chair, clicking his pen as fast as possible when he heard the door quick, scrambling to look busy, and normal. The other hosts entered the room, getting to their seats and doing the usual finishing touches to their appearances before the door opened. Kyoya watches Tamaki comb his hair carefully, his hair almost sparkling in the light. He called over to the king, "Tamaki! Get over here, I want to show you something."
Tamaki hurried over, leaning over Kyoya's shoulder. "What is it mon ami?" He looked at the screen, then glancing to Kyoya. Kyoya smiles softly, switching his window to the website of the little commoner store he'd found.
"Remember when you mentioned that commoner food theme? We could get customised platters for each host?" He suggested the idea, looking at Tamaki closely for his reaction. Tamaki's face lit up, clearly finding the idea a good one.
"Ooh that's perfect! Weldone Kyoya!" He pats Kyoya on the head gently, condescending but oh did it make Kyoya feel actually proud. Funny how that works. "We can all go! A club day out!" Ah. Kyoya's moment of joy evaporated at the king's words, he definitely didn't want that… but Tamaki seemed to notice how Kyoya defeated, looking at him in slight worry. "Is something wrong?"
"Well…" he started, sighing when he realised how stupid it sounded, "I'm sorry Tamaki, I was under the impression we would go alone, it does seem like a more behind the scenes type action as opposed to something we want everyone there for." He wasn't sure exactly what he was saying, he just definitely didn't want to spend time with all the hosts outside of school, that would almost definitely overwhelm him.
Luckily, Tamaki seemed to understand, he smiled, nodding. "Oh of course! It's been so long since I've spent some good quality time with my bestest friend in the entire world." He chuckles and hugs Kyoya, pressing his cheek against Kyoya's face. Said shadow king's face was heating up, feeling a pit drop at the word friend, but feeling still proud to be Tamaki's favourite person, he can ignore Haruhi's existence for a second for bliss.
"If we're going in person," Kyoya began, knowing exactly what his lines were, "you should probably get the club credit card out of wherever you've hidden it." He looked up at Tamaki, watching the recognition spark on the king's face.
"Oh! It's just in my bag, I never take it out." He hurried over, searching through his bag, Kyoya's phone had vibrated so he checked it.
Bitchboy: We're having trouble with the printer, it should be fixed by tomorrow?
Shadow king: Alright, post it tomorrow then.
He looked back over at Tamaki, smiling when he saw the colour drain from the monarch's face. "It's gone!" This caused all the other hosts to look over at him, he looked around at all of them in turn. "The club's card! The one with access to all the club funds! It's gone missing!"
Time for Kyoya's starring roll, his eyes widened, and he spun around in his seat as fast as he could. "What do you mean it's missing? How idiotic to you have to be to loose the club's money!?" His words, or at least the way he'd said them, seemed to spark panic in the other hosts, if Kyoya was worried then surely they should be too.
"Where did you last have it??"
"Doesn't Kyo-chan handle the money?"
"Did you check again?"
Words from the hosts echoed around the room, everyone was sent into a bit of a tizzy. Only shutting up when Mori speaks, quietly, but speaking nonetheless. "Calm down, check your bags and pockets, it may have been dropped and picked up by someone else." Oh, he was a voice of reason, when he managed to find that voice. Kyoya might be head over heels for Tamaki but he can't help but admit that that voice makes him a little weak at the knees.
The hosts do as he tells them to, searching through bags and pockets, Kyoya does so only to keep suspicion away from himself. He was listening for it, he knew it was coming, "oh…" and there it was. He glanced over, to see Haruhi holding the little card, and looking extremely confused. Kyoya got to his feet and was by her side in an instant, plucking the card from her fingers, face contorting into a look of disgust, one he'd cleverly practiced all night.
"So you're a thief now too?" His voice was cruel, and if any of the hosts weren't looking before, they were now. Haruhi looked up at her, eyes widening by the second. "I know you live in squalor but please, don't take us for fools."
"Wh- what?? Senpai, you know I wouldn't do that! I'm not a thief!" Clear panic on her face as she glanced around, realising that Kyoya's word ranked above her own. Kyoya knew this too, but he also knew the other hosts adored Haruhi completely, so time to take a better tone.
His voice sunk into sounding hurt, he was in charge of the money of course, but he was still a friend. "Haruhi please, you don't have to lie to us. You know if you needed money, you could have asked Tamaki, he'd be more than willing- as would most of the others." He glanced to the side, the others were nodding, Tamaki looked hurt as he rushed to her side.
"Are you ok Haruhi?? Is anyone threatening you into paying them money? If you're having troubles we can help you! We would always help you!!" He clasped her hands in his own, eye full of sadness and pity.
"Senpai… I really don't know how the card got into my bag I promise, I wouldn't steal from you guys…" She looked slightly annoyed, but it was clear there was panic behind her eyes. Kyoya was about to say something more, put another nail in her coffin- when the twins spoke up.
"Maybe it was princess Ayanokoji, she loves to bully Haruhi." They spoke in unison, frowning, hands tilted just a little. They weren't wrong, they just didn't quite get it, they were close though, and that scared Kyoya.
"Oh yes," Tamaki stood up, his pondering clear, "she recently told me her blacklisting had expired…" He looked at Kyoya, with eyes that unwittingly make the shadow king's hands shake, "was that something we wrote into the rulebook?"
Kyoya swallowed dryly, nodding once. "Yes," he gestured vaguely, "you said something about redemption and growth whilst we were discussing the club back in the planning stage, so I wrote it into the rules. I'm surprised you don't remember." Yes, that was a good idea, put the spotlight on Tamaki, what kind of a king doesn't remember his own rules.
The twins spoke again, "there's a rulebook?" They frowned at Kyoya, ugh, idiots.
"I gave everyone a copy when you first joined, the big binded file? With the colour coded ribbon?" It was true that he had given everyone a rulebook, and he was quite insulted they couldn't remember, he'd spent a whole week on those.
"Oooh," Hikaru began, a look of recognition on both faces as Kaoru finished, "yeah we threw that out." Kyoya was incredibly angry at that, but simply turned to go and sit down, clicking his pen in a more negative manner, he couldn't lose his temper, he couldn't lose his cool. Not right now.
14:25 - the card was found in Haruhi's wallet, the twins saved her. They don't care one bit for any effort I had put into the rule book, it seems my efforts are an expectation for them.
"That wasn't a very nice thing for you to do, Kyoya had worked hard on those rulebooks. I watched him bind those folders himself, there was glue everywhere!" He could hear Tamaki scold the twins for him, feeling a little better for all Tamaki cared.
"I never got a rulebook when I joined senpai?" Haruhi spoke, clearly sounding slightly shaken.
"Oh!" Tamaki exclaimed, clicking his fingers, he didn't even need to say anything else, Kyoya knew what to do.
"...I'll send you a pdf." He said flatly, going through his google drive, he was going to have to make an edit or two…
Halfway through the session, a sound was heard. Kyoya glanced over to see Tamaki coughing and spluttering, from what little he heard, it seemed Haruhi had put salt in his coffee, or rather Seika had switched the sugar for salt, he knew this was true by her smirk as she watched Tamaki scold Haruhi for being so out of it today. To Kyoya's surprise, Haruhi actually sounded stressed out when she responded. When the session ended she didn't stay behind to help clear up, she just grabbed her bag and hurried off to class.
Tamaki sighed, "I'm worried about her… she's so out of it, I wonder if she's feeling alright."
"She got caught stealing," Kyoya began, not meeting the king's eyes, "only got saved by the twins, got scolded for screwing up something as simple as coffee and didn't even bother to help clear up? Sounds to me like she's trying to spite you for something."
Tamaki paused, looking at Kyoya in clear interest, Kyoya refused to let Tamaki peer behind the curtain like he had so often done. "Are you mad at her? Do you really think that?" Oh great, he'd done it. Once again, Kyoya was angry at this man being able to see straight through him.
"Well, she did try and steal our hard earned funds, you can forgive me for being on edge." It wasn't a question, he wasn't asking to be forgiven, and Tamaki knew that. But Tamaki didn't care, he just sighed. Kyoya didn't stop, "it seems to be like there's something else on her mind, something opposing you." He didn't want to mention Renge, cause he feared that might lead Tamaki to realise he had something to do with the upcoming news.
Tamaki frowned, looking genuinely worried, "she has been distant lately…" Oh, and there was the sound of Kyoya's heart breaking, as much as this was his goal, he hated seeing his love in pain. He sighed, putting his laptop down, throwing his own pain away.
"Hey, I'm sure it's fine Tamaki, even if she is hurting you, you are so far above her, it's only natural she'd seek to lash out." He smiles softly, taking Tamaki's hand in his own. "You've got nothing to fear."
"So… you're saying she's lashing out because she feels inferior?" Tamaki tilted his head slightly, looking confused, Kyoya sighed, sure, that was close enough, he nodded. Tamaki frowned, "oh… she shouldn't, I should think of something to cheer her up. Perhaps I'll take her on a date this weekend!"
"Not before our day out?" Kyoya frowned, hating the outcome of this situation, becoming confused when Tamaki chuckled.
"Oh of course not Kyoya, don't worry." The king smiled, reaching up and ruffling Kyoya's hair. "I missed spending time with you, even if you can be a little demanding at times."
Kyoya had to chuckle at that, feeling reassured that Tamaki was still going to prioritize him. "You're one to talk, remember when we first met?" He didn't even need to elaborate to have Tamaki laughing, knowing full of what Kyoya had referred to.
There wasn't a hosting session at the end of the day, there'd been too many accidents that Tamaki had decided to hold an impromptu meeting. Haruhi was late, so where the twins but that was irrelevant. Kyoya frowned as she walked in, crossing her arms. "A thief and a truant? Are you planning on playing the delinquent this year?"
"Shut the hell up Kyoya!" Hikaru snapped at him, causing Kyoya to all but squeak in alarm, he hadn't been expecting resistance. "She's being bullied if you hadn't noticed, and your stupid comments aren't fucking helping!" Kyoya glanced around the table, it seemed he'd gone a little far, but no one cared about what he'd said, in fact he was being completely ignored in favour of their precious Haruhi being bullied.
"You're being bullied??" Tamaki stood, looking so very worried. "What happened?"
Haruhi didn't say anything in response, choosing only to sigh. It was Kaoru who spoke up, "someone spray painted on the window outside the classroom, essentially calling her a gay whore."
"Oh ouch." Wait shit, did he say that outloud? The other hosts were looking at him, at least they'd stopped ignoring him?
"Yeah…" Kaoru began, letting Hikaru finish, "we stayed with her to talk to the teacher."
Haruhi went to sit down, burying her face in her hands. "I just want to go home and take a nap…" God, Kyoya hadn't expected to feel for her, but Ayanokoji had gone way too far, this was disgusting.
Shadow king: WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU??
A GAY WH*RE? DID YOU REALLY FUCKING CALL HER A GAY WH*RE?
Child: cranky cause you're also a gay whore aren't you?
Shadow king: You're like 13 shut the fuck up.
Woman#2: You told me to make her life hell, that's what I did.
"It's ok Haruhi, you can leave if you want…" Tamaki started, frowning, eyes full of sadness. But he paused, looking down at Kyoya, "who are you texting?" Uh oh.
Kyoya spoke plainly, not letting the other's see his eyes behind his glasses. "I'm putting Seika Ayanokoji back onto the blacklist, at least until she proves it wasn't her." He pauses, noticing how Tamaki appears to approve. "I will also have a talk with her about why she was removed from the blacklist, and how she can get back off of it."
"Hm, good idea Kyoya." Tamaki nods in approval before turning back to Haruhi and going to hold her, she lets him for once, but doesn't reciprocate.
Shadow king: I've put you back on the blacklist for the time being, the hosts are on to you.
Woman#2: But our agreement???
Shadow king: Is only valid if you're actually useful.
So try being useful.
Everything but the graffiti was alright.
And don't forget the school has cameras.
Woman#2: Don't be such a baby.
Shadow king: Don't be so insolent.
He sighed, leaning back in his chair. Tamaki glanced at him, clearly on edge, and Kyoya decides this silence is too unbearable to stand. "Well, I think this meeting has been enlightening. But I'm sure we're all tired, so, Tamaki?" He didn't have the power to dismiss the hosts, but he had the power to ask Tamaki to do so.
And who was Tamaki to refuse him? The king nodded, sighing and curling a lock of Haruhi's hair in his fingers. "Of course, you're all dismissed, you may leave if you wish."
Most of the hosts got up and left, mumbling condolences to Haruhi as they did so. Kyoya began slowly packing his stuff away, he could feel Haruhi's eyes were on him. He didn't feel shame, only pity. He stood up, slinging his bag over his shoulder. He glanced down at Haruhi, "I hope you have a better day tomorrow," he spoke curtly, almost mocking her in a roundabout way, but genuinely meaning that, the news story won't affect her nearly as much as the graffiti, and at least she'd get a reprieve.
Shadow king: Before I forget, don't go after her tomorrow, the article will be enough.
Woman#2: So much for making her life hell, you coward.

Surgical Management for Non-Traumatic Syringomyelia using Syringo-Subarachnoid Shunt “T-Tube”: An Experience of 6 Cases
Authored by Ghassen Gader
Introduction
The natural history of syringomyelia is highly variable. In some cases, patients do improve or stabilize without surgery, while others deteriorate even with aggressive interventions. Various surgical procedures for the treatment of syringomyelia have been introduced, including posterior fossa decompression, syringostomy, syringoperitoneal shunting. But even though satisfactory results have been reported for most of these procedures, some authors have been critical of these techniques. Through this paper, we will try to make our contribution by reporting the results we have got after surgical management of 6 patients operated for syringomyelia by syringo-subarachnoid shunt using T-Tube.
Methods
Patients
The mean age of our patients was 55.4 years. Etiologies of our patients’ syringomyelia are various: only one patient had post traumatic syringomyelia (6 years after trauma). One has an idiopathic intra medullar cyst; the four others were previously surgically managed: 3 for decompression of cervico-occipital hinge, and one for an intradural meningioma (Table 1). All patients had motor dysfunction, 4 had sensory disorders, and 3 had sexual or genital disturbances. About radiologic localizations of the syrinx, 4 patients had an intramedullar cavitation extending through cervical and dorsal medulla (Figure 1). 1 patient had bulbomedullary syringomyelia (Figure 2), and 1 had an intramedullary cyst localized in front of T1-T2 (Figure 3).
Surgical technique
The used technique for all our patients was a syringosubarachnoid shunt made through the implementation of a t-tube. Positioning was strict ventral. We proceed to a laminectomy followed by a durotomy in front of the widest portion of the intramedullary cavitation. The arachnoid is opened by making flecks, through which we carefully introduce the tip of the catheter at the level of the dorsal groove until the extraction of CSF out from the syrinx. Finally, the two arms of the T-catheter are attached to the arachnoid.
Follow up
Only one patient had transitory disturbances of the proprioceptive sensitivity, followed by a recover of the same anterior neurologic status. Two patients presented neither deterioration nor amelioration of motor or sensitive functions. The 3 other patients improved their preoperative status. This improvement concerned at most sensitive features. All our patients had postoperative MRI 6 months after surgery. This control imaging showed a radiologic improvement defined by a reduction of the size of the syrinx, found in 4 patients (Figure 4). Two patients had almost the same radiologic lesions as found on preoperative MRI.
Discussion
Syringomyelia is a known to be a disorder in which a cyst or cavitations are formed within the spinal cord. This abnormality called a syrinx can expand and elongate over time, destroying the spinal cord [1]. Syringomyelia is associated with numerous different pathologies, including spinal trauma, craniocervical anomalies mainly chiari malformations, meningitis, spinal tumor [2]. The pathogenesis of syringomyelia is still a subject of controversies. The most commonly accepted theory is that the spinal cord’s cavitation occurs when CSF is forced to get through the fourth ventricle into the central canal. This may be the consequence of either a caudally directed pulse wave, or a pressure gradient at the level of the foramen magnum [3]. Physiopathological theories has conditioned therapeutic approaches for syringomyelia and led to the development of several operative procedures depending on its supposed etiology and pathogenesis [4]. Posterior fossa decompression [5], syringoperitoneal shunt [6], syringopleural shunt [7], myelotomy coupled with lumboperitoneal shunt [8], syringosubarachnoid shunt [9], and several other techniques, have all been described with varying success.
Several ancient reports have been considering that the results of syringo-subarachnoid shunt as disappointing. Among their arguments to explain this failure were discussed the difficulty of manipulation of the T-tube with a high risk of medullar lesion [6,10], and the frequency of shunt obstruction as a result of the collapse of the syrinx cavity around the shunt tip [4,11]. This failure was mainly discussed in post-traumatic syringomyelia, where spinal injury produces numerous abnormalities, such as subarachnoid adhesions, spinal deformity or stenosis in addition to the syrinx, limiting the efficiency of any shunting procedure [12].
The new surgical techniques of implantation of T-Tube have managed to break out with the anterior shortages [6,10]. In our new shunting procedure, we inserted just one arm of the T-tube into the syrinx cavity and located the other arm outside the cord, in the sub-arachnoid space. Thus, we can protect the cord from tube rotation, but also have the possibility to easily remove the tube when necessary, without prejudice on the cord. Also, we could easily anchor the tube to the dura, and thus prevent migration resulting in shunt malfunction.
According to several authors [13], the most important factor in the occlusion of the shunt system is the development of arachnoiditis and adhesions of the arachnoid around tip of the shunt tubing. Anatomically [9], the dorsal and ventral spinal subarachnoid spaces are different. Many trabeculae exist between the pia mater of the dorsal cord surface and the dorsal arachnoid membrane; however, there are no arachnoid trabeculae on the ventral surface. Using the standard technique for syringosubarachnoid shunting, the dorsal subarachnoid space is the usual site for distal catheter placement and the anatomy of this space may contribute to delayed shunt malfunction. In the modified technique described here, the shunt is inserted into the syrinx at the dorsal root entry zone and the distal tip is inserted into the anterolateral subarachnoid space.
The results of our series support the reports claiming the interest of T-Tube shunt technique. Clinically, 50% of the cases of our series improved their preoperative status, and 50% kept the same signs without postoperative worsening. 66% had radiological improvement with regression of the syrinx; the others had the same preoperative aspects with no worsening.
We do think that with further technical refinement, we could reach better clinical and radiological results.
Conclusion
According to our good results, this new technique seems to be promising in the treatment of non-traumatic syringomyelia. For post-traumatic syringomyelia, an associated broad release of subarachnoid spaces is required. The study of a larger series is necessary in order to a better evaluation of the effectiveness of this technique.

Bargain
Requested by anonymous
Pairing: Kazuchika Okada/FC
Category: Angstish
Warnings: Manipulation, coercion, asshole Okada
“I got you figured out, you need to have control” Yes Girl by Bea Miller
It had taken you a while, but you had Kazuchika Okada figured out. He was a control freak, plain and simple. If things didn’t go his way, he tended to pout. He had a bit of a temper, and when things were out of his control, he was out of his element.
I got you figured out, you need to have control
You think I don’t know you, I know you, I know
Trying to tell you now, I’ve been doing what you want
But I won’t be your yes girl, no, not anymore
That was why your role as his assistant was so vital. He was demanding. Almost overbearingly so. You had to be meticulous with his schedule, making sure everything lined up perfectly, that he had his required down time, and an exact amount of travel time between each destination. Kazuchika detested being late, so you had to make sure he had plenty of time to get from point A to point B.
All in all working for the man was quite taxing and beyond stressful. You honestly weren’t sure how much longer you could continue working directly under him. If he was a nice guy it may make it a little more bearable, but he was pretty much an ass 90% of the time. If the pay wasn’t so good, you would have hit the road long ago. Now you were getting to the point you weren’t sure the money was worth it.
It hadn’t been like that when you first started. He had been the consummate gentleman to you, treated you nicely, took you to lunch and confided in you. All that changed once he realized there wasn’t a chance in hell of you sleeping with him. When you had made it abundantly clear that you relationship was professional only and that you were madly in love with your fiancé. It was like taking a toy away from a child. Kazuchika did not like hearing the word no, was unaccustomed to it, and therefore was striking out at you for daring to deny him.
But I won’t be your yes girl, no, not anymore
Just let me go, just let me go
Won’t be your yes girl, no, not anymore
Just let me go, just let me go
It was complicated to say the least and you were honestly fed up with toeing the careful line of his temper. Tired of getting chewed out for non-existent mistakes and being held to impossible standards. After yet another rough morning you had decided this was it. You were putting in your notice. With a determined set to your shoulders you headed into Kazu’s office, slamming your hands down on the desk surface when he ignored you. Raising his eyes from the stack of 8x10s he was autographing Kazu looked up at the resounding noise, arching his perfect eyebrow high as he stared at you.
“I quit.” You said firmly. “Two weeks from today I am done working for you.” Piece said you turned on your heel heading out of his office feeling like a weight had been lifted of your shoulders. Only to stop dead in your tracks at Kazu’s response.
“No.” He said simply before returning his attention back to the task at hand.
Unable to believe you had heard him correctly you turned right back around and stood over his desk, glaring at him.
“What do you mean no?” You asked shrilly. “You can’t just force me to work for you.”
“Actually I can.” He said simply. “Maybe you should read your employment contract.”
“There is nothing in my contract that says I can’t quit.” You argued as you tried to remember exactly what you had signed.
“You would be right. After a year. You’ve been here three months.” Kazu shrugged unrepentantly. “For the next nine months the only way you can walk away is with my approval. Or paying the penalty. Which, I’m rather confident you can’t afford.”
With a strangled shriek you rushed from his office and to your computer, frantically pulling up the PDF of the contract you signed when you came to work for New Japan as Okada’s assistant. You remembered being so nervous that day. You had read the contract, thoroughly you thought, but apparently certain things hadn’t been retained. Your mouth dropped as you read the provision on resignation, unable to believe you didn’t remember that.
“I’m right aren’t I?” You startled as Okada’s voice appeared at your ear and you cringed from him as he leaned over your shoulder and read the paragraph aloud adding a whistle at the end for dramatic effect. “Wow that is a pretty steep penalty.” He said pursing his lips. “Shame you can’t afford to pay that.” Okada straightened and walked towards the door to leave for his next appointment.
“Kazuchika, you can’t be serious. Are you really going to make me continue working with you?” You called after him. “We can’t stand each other. Why would you want to keep me around?”
“It’s quite simple really.” He replied glancing over his shoulder to respond. “You don’t want to be here, so I’m going to keep you.” He flashed a grin at you. “But I’ll tell you what, I’m in a rather generous mood today and am willing to extend a proposition to end your employment.”
“I don’t want anything to do with any of your propositions.” You spat with narrowed eyes. You wanted to scream when he shrugged.
“Suit yourself.” He said before disappearing out the doors.
With Kazuchika scheduled to be out of the office for the remainder of the day you had been looking forward to some downtime without his overbearing presence. Of course that wasn’t meant to be, as Okada spent the entire day shooting you obscure tasks through text. You spent an hour alone hunting through stacks of papers and file trying to find a piece of paper he insisted he needed for his afternoon interview. You had been near tears when you couldn’t find it, despite his insistence it was on his desk. You had gone through every single paper on that damn desk twice and couldn’t find it only for him to text you to abandon your search as he actually did have the paper on him. He made you reschedule an entire day’s worth of interviews and appearances only to decide as soon as you were done that he liked the original line up better. So you had to get back on the phone with everyone to undo what you had just done, making you look like a fool in the process. If you had thought he was bad before, he now seemed intent on making your life a living hell.
By the end of the day you were ready to yank your hair out at the roots. You had lost track of how many times you had cried throughout the day. You didn’t understand how someone could convey such hurt through a simple text message, but Okada managed to rip you to shreds with just a few well-placed words. He completely ignored you when he arrived back at the office just before 5:00pm, heading straight to his desk without any acknowledgement and you knew you couldn’t do this anymore. You had to get out of this job or you were going to lose your mind. For the sake of your mental wellbeing you drew in a deep breath and walked into his office standing silently at the head of his desk while he shuffled through his drawers, leaving you standing awkwardly.
“Can I help you?” He finally asked leaning back in his chair and staring challengingly at you.
“I want to discuss your…proposition.” You said quietly, forcing yourself to swallow back your pride. You needed to know what his offer was, what the price of your freedom would entail. Then you would have to decide if you were willing to pay that price.
“I’m not quite sure it’s still on the table.” Okada said after a moment of silence.
Your heart sank and you had to fight for tears not to fill your eyes all while Okada watched you unerringly with a smirk on his face that said he knew exactly how much you were struggling.
“It has to be. Please.” You forced the word out, hoping to make Okada see reason.
“Convince me.” He said flashing his teeth in a predatory grin as he waved his hand indicating you should kneel. You glanced over your shoulder at the door, wanting nothing more in that moment than to run home to your fiancé and disappear forever. Telling yourself you were doing this for your future you knelt down and bowed your head.
“Please Okada-sama. Please tell me your proposition. I’m sorry I was rude earlier. I should have listened to your proposal and not treated you with such disrespect.” You said.
“I’m going to make this offer once and only once. If the word no crosses your lips I will throw you out of here and you will continue to work for me until your contract expires in nine months. Do you understand?” Okada asked. You nodded your agreement and bit your tongue to stop yourself from saying anything that could ruin an opportunity for you to escape. “One day. 24 hours you belong to me. You will do anything I say, do anything I want, however I want you to. Without question. At the end of that time period I will release you from your contract without penalty and you can go on your way.”
It was a struggle to not call him out. Tell him what an asshole he was and to rant and rave about how this wasn’t ethical. That he was crossing so many lines with his little proposition. You kept all those words to yourself, thinking of his proposal and wondering if you could live with yourself if you accepted it. Wondered if you could survive another nine months like today in his employment. Because you knew without him needing to speak it that your remaining days in his employ would be a living hell if you rejected his offer.
“I accept.” You said in defeat, hanging your head as you caught the satisfaction bright in his eyes and you wondered if you had just made the biggest mistake of your life.

HAMATORA THE NOVEL pt.I - Things More Important Than Money (ENGLISH TRANSLATION)
H therei!! d (ba-sudei) and avery (@minimums) here! finally finished translating the first part of hamatora the novel! but before anything, please, please, please read this!
although we opted not to state this on our official foreword, both avery and i felt it shouldn't remain unsaid. please remember that this is a fan translation first and foremost, as well as something we put a lot of time and effort into. it is a fan translation because we are fans of hamatora, and felt that even all these years later the material deserved to come to light. yes, it is 2018, and not 2014. we know what year this is, and we are fans anyway. hamatora had its shortcomings, flaws, inconsistencies, and issues, just like every other series in existence. however, we both felt that since our love for it remains, translating would be “better late than never.” and while we hope that others still feel the same, we understand many won’t— and don't. if like us you still love hamatora, please enjoy our efforts! if you don't, all we can ask is that you please don't dismiss, make fun of, or dampen them. translating is not easy, and certainly neither is creating a series. so, without further ado, please enjoy Hamatora the Novel part 1!

“Now then, shall we work hard today, too?”
The boy with bandages on his face and headphones around his neck spoke loudly to a girl. His name is Nice; he’s a detective.
The girl’s name is Koneko. She is the broker of requests for Hamatora Detective Agency, which operates under Nice and his partner. She is also the owner of Cafe Nowhere, where Hamatora Detective Agency have set up their office on one of their tables.
“Any requests come in today?”
Nice asked Koneko with a lively tone and a smile on his face, forgetting the sad reality that the few coins in his pocket were literally all he had.
Koneko's ponytail swung as she smiled and slightly tilted her head.
“None.”
It wasn’t surprising, but Nice still doubted her answer; the smile he unconsciously had on his face fell and his expression became serious.
“Seriously?”
“Seriously.”
“Why?!”
“Who knows...”
Despite Nice’s franticness, Koneko’s smile didn’t falter. The nerve on Koneko’s temple twitched but not because of Nice’s moodiness.
“By the way, Nice-kun. When do I get anything out of lending you a table for your office?”
“Uh, uhhhh...” Nice nervously looked around the interior of Nowhere.
Over the counter was a man polishing a cup, the cafe’s master.
Master is the one who stands in the kitchen and cooks food on the menu, while Koneko, the owner, is in charge of customer service and miscellaneous affairs.
Master continued to work in silence, purposely trying not to meet Nice’s eyes.
In front of Master on a seat across the counter was a girl drinking milk. She’s an assistant of the Hamatora Detective Agency— or so she’s supposed to be. But at the moment she was becoming a mascot instead. She is Hajime.
Hajime finished her milk then held out her cup towards Master.
“Seconds. You can charge it on Nice-kun’s tab.”
“...Nice’s tab is just about all piled up, though.”
Master took the cup and refilled it with milk before handing it back to Hajime.
Hajime moved the cup towards Nice lazily.
“Thanks for the meal. Cheers.”
“Wait, wait, don't cheers to this, Hajime-chan! I haven’t had anything to eat since last night!”
“Poor thing,” Hajime said with blandly, and began to drink the milk.
Nice slumped his shoulders, turning his gaze towards a table in the back, where a young man wearing glasses was seated and looking through the newspaper. His name is Murasaki. He is Nice's partner.
Murasaki, through his glasses, fixed Nice with a cold look.
“Nice. Can’t you tell that you’re suffering the consequences of your actions?”
“I can tell... but what did I do?”
Nice looked clueless. Good grief, Murasaki sighed. “Before this, who was it that turned down the request to investigate an affair?”
“I did.”
“And before that, who was it that turned down the request to do background checks for a delinquent high school student?”
“I did?”
“Not to mention, before that, who was it that, when a lady who was having trouble with a stalker following her around came and begged for something to be done, sent her away saying ‘you can do something about that yourself’?”
“Ah, you make it sound so harsh! It was just a lovers’ quarrel, they shouldn’t involve other people to solve their problems for them. You think so, too, right, Koneko?”
Nice waited for Koneko to nod and agree with him, but Koneko only looked away.
“I don’t know about that.”
“...Huh? Does that mean I got that wrong?”
“See, that’s what I’m talking about. You’re in your current situation because you’re always so picky with the requests you take. If that’s not suffering the consequences of your actions, then what is it?”
“Okay, but even so. This is work after all, I wouldn’t do that to people who are seriously in trouble. Everyone I turned down was just requesting stuff for their own convenience. It’s not a big deal if I don’t help them, is it?”
“I guessed that would be your reasoning. You mean that it shouldn’t be acceptable in this society.”
“It’s a sad society, really.”
“Can't deny that society is sad— Another woman seems to have gone missing.”
Murasaki put the newspaper down onto the table and tapped an article lightly with the back of his hand.
Nice went over to Murasaki's side to have a look at the newspaper.
“Another one?”
In this town, Yokohama, girls have continuously been going missing.
Whether these cases were plotted or coincidental was unclear. The commonalities among the missing people were that they were young and attractive; there seemed to be absolutely no correlation among their workplaces, schools, and relationships.
“Yeah, this is the fifth one already. Looks like it’s a high school girl this time. She’s said to have gone missing two days ago.”
“Two days ago...? Maybe she’s just been staying over at a friend’s place or something?”
“Things would be fine if that were the case. But there are some short articles in the newspaper that say that the family was set on reporting it to the police.”
“As an incident?”
“It’s not a job for us detectives, an investigation like that. It’s for the police.”
“The police, huh... I wonder if Art’s busy right now.”
Art. He is a young man Nice has been keeping company with for a long time.
Art is a police officer from the Yokohama police department. After graduating from a special educational institution with outstanding achieve-ments, he continued to make extraordinary efforts and became the police superintendent at quite a young age.
“I wonder if Art’s having some trouble.”
“Art might not be the one put directly in charge of the continuous disappearance of those girls. Besides, he’s excellent, so I don’t think he’d be having any trouble.”
“That's true,” Nice agreed, knowing Art as a guy who’s overcome all his difficulties with sheer effort; he’s one of the few people that Nice can respect from the bottom of his heart.
“I can tell that that guy’s working hard. Looks like I don’t need to worry that much after all.”
Nice cleared his throat and went silent. The rest of the inside of the cafe quieted, too, until the sound of the television took over for everyone to hear. There was a variety show airing.
‘We are inside a shopping mall in Yokohama. There is an exhibit by Aomiya-san, a doll-maker who’s been much-talked-about lately. Since today is the last day, the venue is packed.’
voiced the reporter. Nice and company turned their eyes towards the television.
The event space was in a familiar shopping mall nearby, and it was decorated with many life-size dolls. They were all female dolls in luxurious gothic-style dresses.
‘Look at the infamous lifelike dolls, they look like they’ll start moving any second now! Aomiya-san’s work is going to be auctioned at New York this year, and many bidders are ready to bid over a hundred million yen!’
Next to the reporter introducing the dolls appeared a strange-looking young man.
The man had hung several marionettes, the type one can manipulate with strings throughout their bodies.
The reporter introduced this man who had a strange, confident smile on his face:
‘The world-famous doll-maker Aomiya-san has arrived! It’s a pleasure to have you here today despite your busy schedule. ’
‘It’s no problem. This is an opportunity to propagate my aesthetics, so the pleasure is all mine.’
Aomiya brushed his hair out of his forehead with one hand; it was a gesture that made him look like a decent man. That motion bumped into several marionettes, making a dry sound.
“That's some weird fashion. Do you think he lives like that?”
Nice quipped. Murasaki replied indifferently,
“It’s probably part of the production, since he’s a doll-maker and all. Can’t say it’s a good hobby, though.”
Hajime, uninterested, averted her eyes from the television and continued to drink her milk.
Koneko smiled wryly and opened her mouth, “It stands out, so isn’t that a good thing? You can’t go wrong with it, it’s a famous doll exhibit.”
“Koneko, do you want to go?” Nice asked.
“No, not really... Actually, dolls that look just like humans are a little creepy...”
“Creepy?”
“Uhhm, you know. Isn’t it like those urban legends? Where they dress up human beings to make them living dolls... O— of course, I don’t believe in such urban legends.”
Koneko quickly shook her hands in front of her face as if to cover her expression. Nice chuckled.
“I won’t laugh at you whether you believe those or not. But hm... Living dolls, huh?”
Nice stared at the lifelike dolls next to Aomiya.
The man called Aomiya was talking about something proudly, but his voice didn’t reach Nice’s ears.
“—You’re right. It does give off a strange vibe. Plus it’s creepy and spooky.”
It was when Nice coughed a small cough that the cafe door clicked and the bell on it rang.
It seemed someone had arrived. Everyone except the one who was paying attention only to her milk saw who it was.
There came a woman who was slightly overweight and dressed in brand.
She looked to be in her forties; she held what looked like a branded handbag and wore unfashionable glasses with gilded rims and metal carvings.
She raised her glasses above her eyes with a hand and surveyed the store restlessly.
“I heard that the detective called Hamatora would be here.”
“Oh, if you’re looking for Hamatora, that’s us.”
Nice confidently raised his hand. The woman’s eyes widened behind her glasses; she was visibly doubtful.
“...You?”
The woman seemed to have thought ill of Nice’s appearance for a reason or another.
When Nice noticed, he felt an instant irritation. Before Nice could say anything in retaliation, Murasaki had raised his hand after folding the newspaper and straightening his back.
“Do you have a request? If that’s so, you can talk with me.”
Unlike Nice, Murasaki is able to read the mood when it comes to others and phrase himself accordingly. This is a testament to his maturity.
The woman initially looked at Murasaki from head to toe with contempt.
Murasaki and Nice both wear street-style clothes, but thanks to his glasses, Murasaki appears more honest in disposition. The aggression disappeared from the woman’s eyes.
“So there is someone here who I can talk with properly. Good.”
“Then, have a seat,” Murasaki gestured to the table, inviting her.
‘Good’ my ass, Nice muttered, leaving the table abruptly and plopping down next to Hajime by the counter.
“Piss off,” Nice grumbled in a whisper. Now now, Koneko hushed him in a low voice.
The woman sat down on a chair Murasaki had pulled out for her, and did not even wait until Murasaki could seat himself opposite her before she started talking:
“I want you to search for my daughter. You can do it, right?”
While the woman was saying this highhandedly, Murasaki took his seat, unfazed.
“A person-search request, I see. Of course, we can accept it. Could you share with me the specific circumstances?”
The woman fidgeted and leaned towards Murasaki.
“My daughter hasn’t come home in two days, and you know! You’ve heard of it, too, haven’t you? Of the cases of beautiful daughters going missing in this neighborhood. I’m almost sure, she must have gotten involved in an incident like that...”
She continued without pausing for breath,
“If she got caught up in that incident, oh, what will I do? This is why I don’t let her to go out even with her friends. Recently, though only once in a while, she’d be a little late to her curfew and I didn’t think much of it, but if the friend she went out with was a man, it could’ve been the criminal of the incident—”
she kept rambling to Murasaki.
“Ah, please calm down—”
“How can I calm down—?! If I knew this was going to happen, I would’ve made her attend an all-girl’s school all this time from kindergarten! Why is such a thing happening to me? If I lose that child, whatever will I do—?”
The woman was on the verge of a breakdown. As if to change the flow of the conversation, Murasaki picked up the newspaper he’d folded and set aside to spread it in front of her.
“For now, could you read this article? Is it possible that perhaps your daughter is the one mentioned on this article about a missing person?”
The woman fixed the position of her glasses and skimmed across the newspaper article. She seemed to regain composure.
“Y—yes, that’s right. I also reported it to the police, but I couldn’t just stand still so I came here.”
The woman pulled out an envelope from her handbag. It was considerably thick.
“For the retainer fee and advanced payment for necessary expenses, I’ll deposit this much. I can guarantee twice this amount once my daughter is found safe and sound.”
Koneko was the first to react to how thick the envelope was. She lit up, enthusiastically putting her hands together by her chest.
“With just that, you could already pay off everything accumulated under your tab...”
“Can’t be helped,” Master said, unmoving.
Murasaki shifted his focus to Nice.
“We’ll accept this request, okay—?”
“No thanks.”
Nice shot back instantly. Murasaki stood up, his chair skidding.
“You’re still saying that? Just what on earth about this doesn’t sit right with you?”
Nice spoke past Murasaki to the client:
“Hey, just wondering. Haven’t you thought that your daughter going missing might just be her going out with a friend?”
“Of course I have. In that case I would have asked her for her friend’s name!”
the woman answered testily.
“You probably don’t think about how your daughter feels. Don’t you think she felt suffocated at home and ran away?”
“Suffocated? Impossible. She’s my only child and I care for her, I’ve given her a life without inconvenience. I let her take any class she wants, I give her enough pocket money. What else could she complain about?”
“...That so?”
It was all Nice said back, before getting up from the bar stool and heading for the exit of the cafe.
“Hey, Nice!”
Without looking back, Nice waved Murasaki off after hearing him.
“You can handle it, Murasaki. I’ll go look for a job by myself.”
He likes to have it his way, Nice heard Murasaki explain, but went on outside without stopping.
He raised his arms and stretched them.
“Having to breathe the same air as her feels so suffocating. Her daughter probably couldn’t breathe.”
Anyway, Nice recollected his thoughts and headed out.
“Even a detective can walk around without running into trouble. Well, at least for now, it’s peaceful like usual...”
Fuwah, Nice yawned, as he strolled along the river that leads to the sea.
The river flows under an elevated highway, and the riverbank is fortified by concrete, so it’s not very windy. On the far end of the boulevard across the river is the famous Yokohama Chinatown. Nice was walking from a back street along the river, a few minutes away from the bridge.
“Guess I'll go to Chinatown. Where there’s a bunch of people, there’s bound to be some work!”
Chinatown is well-known as the place to get meat buns. There are shops that sell steamed meat buns with shrimp, and fresh fruits. It’s a place where one can get good food anywhere.
I’m starving, Nice groaned, thrusting a hand into his pocket.
Nice felt the shapes of the coins with his fingers to count them, then hung his head.
“...No good. It’s all I have, it’ll all be gone if I buy a meat bun. But eating that’ll keep me full for longer. It’s the only choice I have!”
Nice raised his head with a bitter smile. Suddenly, he noticed a cruiser mooring close to the bank.
It was a huge cruiser, one that looked like it could go out into the open sea. It just barely passed the bridge.
“Is it really alright to stop a ship around here in this river? Won’t it break down like that? Ah, I mean, I’m sure a ship like that’s freaking expensive... I heard that even an ordinary one would cost a couple hundred million yen. I wonder what kind of guys buy that kind of... Ah— At the very least, I bet they don’t have to think about money all the time. I want to be like that so I can eat meat buns without worrying. Maybe I’ll go see the ocean for a change of pace.”
Nice decided to ditch Chinatown for the sea; nearby is a park where one can look out into the ocean.
He went on over to the wide crossing. Past it is the entrance to the park he was headed to.
The pedestrian signals were red; Nice stopped walking when he saw it.
Right next to Nice was a little girl he hadn’t noticed. She was wearing a black dress that matched her long hair, with red shoes. Her height just barely reached Nice’s hip, and she looked like she was about kindergarten age.
Her skin was so white it seemed almost transparent, and her features were remarkably fair. It all made her body up to look quite delicate.
Kinda looks like a doll. That was Nice’s first impression of the little girl.
Though the little girl was expressionless, she was looking all around her. She seemed to be looking for someone.
Nice looked around the area as well. On the other end of the pedestrian crossing, there was a young boy, even smaller than the little girl, playing with what looked like a vinyl ball.
“Hey, isn’t it a little dangerous to be playing with a ball on the sidewalk?”
Nice had thought in that moment to call out even if he was all the way across the street.
The ball rolled into the pavement, and the boy playing with it ran after it, not seeming to care that the pedestrian signals were red.
“I said don’t play there!"
Beside Nice who was surprised, a small shadow moved. Moving like she was weightless, the little girl came rushing onto the pedestrian lane, all the while the signals were still red.
“Hey!!”
Out of the corner of his eye, Nice spotted a large truck coming.
When the truck caught sight of the young girl, the horn honked as the brakes screeched.
But it was too late— it was obvious what was coming next.
At this rate, the little girl was going to be hit by the truck right in front of Nice—
Without missing a beat, Nice put on his headphones and snapped his fingers.
The sound from his headphones drowned out the horn, and for a moment the world stopped moving.
Everything stood still in an instant, the truck, the little girl— even the leaves falling from the trees by the street.
The special ability Nice possessed, <Speed of Sound Minimum>, was activated.
There exists a special ability that only a handful of people are naturally born with.
A small miracle— a Minimum.
That is, an ‘extraordinary individuality’ actualized.
A person with a Minimum Ability is called a Minimum Holder, and Nice is one of them.
With <Speed of Sound Minimum>, up to 5 meters from the activation point, Nice can run as if he were side by side with sound.
But it goes by in the blink of an eye for anyone else.
In a world where everything was stopped, Nice sprinted into the pedestrian crossing, grabbing the little girl less than a mere meter away from the truck’s bumper.
—Isn’t this kid awfully light?
With this iffy feeling, and with all his might, Nice flew forward. Right after this, the world started moving again.
Once the sound of the truck brakes faded, surprised voices rang out:
“Wha— what!? She disappeared!”
“Wah—!”
The road was more than five meters wide— more than Nice can use his Minimum.
Nice would have been hit by another car on the other lane if he hadn’t made haste cutting across the pedestrian lane. But as he did, he kicked up the ball rolling by and started dribbling it like he would a football.
It was only by the time Nice had gone past the pedestrian crossing that the car came to a complete stop. The driver shouted at him:
“You idiot, you wanna fucking die?!”
“No friggin’ way—”
At Nice’s retort, the driver honked his horn even louder.
The little boy who was playing with the ball was sitting on the curb of the street. His face was twisted in shock.
“Wh-wh-what-t what—”
The little boy got on his feet with a start and burst into tears.
“Ah, I didn’t do anything!”
the driver cried irresponsibly, starting his car and fleeing.
Confused, Nice forgot all about putting down the little girl he was holding.
“Hey, I won’t know what to do if you cry like that, you know?”
Nice took the ball he was dribbling and passed it deftly towards the chest of the crying boy in a loose arc.
The boy caught it quickly, still in tears.
“My child, why are you crying?!”came a woman’s hysterical voice from beside them. Nice saw a young woman with gaudily-done makeup making her way towards them with heavy steps. She seemed to be the mother of the little boy.
“Oh, no, I didn’t make him cry—”
“But he’s definitely crying! And just now I saw you kick the ball with your feet!”
The woman lifted the little boy, moving him away from Nice.
“No, that’s— I mean, I did kick the ball, but that’s not why he’s crying—”
“God, young people these days sure are rotten, bullying little children like this. I’m calling the police right now, don’t move!”
she spat, holding her child and stomping away.
“What’s with that woman? If she cares about her child so much, she shouldn’t let him play ball in a place like this!”
Nice muttered, finally thinking to let the little girl down. But as he did, she clutched onto Nice’s clothes, refusing to let go.
“Guess there’s no way around it. It’ll be annoying if the police come, so why don’t we escape while we can?”
Still carrying the little girl, Nice made a beeline for the park.
In the park facing the sea, there’s a terminal for boarding pleasure cruises. Anchored right next to it is a large cargo ship that people can visit for observations or field trips any time.
There weren’t many people in the park. From the nearby boulevard, one could hear the sound of cars passing by and sea birds chirping, making it a relaxing atmosphere.
Nice deemed their position to be far away enough from the crossing. He settled beside the fountain in the center of the park and drew a breath.
“Hah. Whew. I wonder if the police can track us all the way over here... But, well, as long as you’re here you can tell them about what actually happened, right?”
“Yo, broke detective. You having so much trouble getting anything to eat these days that you switched jobs to kidnapping?”
said a teasing voice. Hearing these words, Nice panicked and whipped around.
There, he found a man wearing sunglasses, a thin smile playing on his lips.
It was someone Nice has gotten along with for a long time. His name is Birthday; he works as a handyman.
“Don’t talk shit about people like that, Birthday. Who the heck are you calling a kidnapper?!”
“Well of course, you, Nice.”
“You’ve got it all wrong. This kid was about to get run over by a truck, I just helped her. Right?” Nice prompted, putting down the little girl he’d been carrying. She wordlessly tilted her head.
“You were thinking of helping that kid with the ball earlier, too, right? That was really reckless, damn.”
The little girl did not respond to anything Nice was saying. She only looked up at Nice, staring, completely expressionless.
Her eyes were so pure and clear that Nice felt like he could be sucked into them when he saw his reflection.
Feeling disarmed, Nice looked away. Then Birthday questioned him,
“By the way, who is this cute little kid?”
“No idea.”
“Then, it’s a case of a lost child, isn’t it? If it’s like than, then leave it to Birthday-sama!”
Birthday sucked in a rough breath and puffed his chest out proudly.
“The heck are you acting all high and mighty for now?”
“From little girls to older women, I’m a friend to every lady, didn’t you hear?”
“Oh yeah? And what if the lost child was a boy?”
“A boy? Well, a man must overcome difficulties on his own, of course!”
Birthday exclaimed with a laugh, crouching down to be in level with the little girl. Still expressionless, the little girl tilted her head in the opposite direction.
“Hello, little lady. First things first, come closer. Yup, yup.”
Birthday closed his hand and presented it to her.
Then he opened it to reveal small flowers. They looked like toy flowers.
The little girl peered at the flowers but did nothing more. She remained expressionless.
“Huh? You didn’t like that? Then, how about this?”
He closed his hands around the flowers then held them wide open the next moment.
There appeared little flags, the ones that looked like they would come on children’s meals. Out of nowhere, Nice laughed.
“Ahaha, what a shabby magic trick—”
“Nice, you bastard, it’s not cool to say shit like that!”
Embarrassed and turning red, Birthday rushed to get back up.
The little girl was still expressionless, and though subtle, she was trembling. She seemed surprised.
“Birthday. Is it me or did you just make her uncomfortable? Not a friend to ‘every lady’ now, are we?”
“Tsk,” Birthday clicked his tongue. He plastered his smile back on and looked at the little girl.
“Sorry, sorry. Don’t get mad, OK? From now on, I’ll only give my best, so could you please cheer up?”
The little girl blinked. Though she was still expressionless, there appeared to be expectation in her eyes.
“Your best, huh?” Nice mocked.
“It’s gonna be good, so just watch.”
From the pocket of his pants, Birthday slowly slipped out something that resembled a rope. There were countless LED lights attached to a wire cable; they were used to decorate Christmas trees.
“And here—”Birthday threw the lights up and twirled, swinging it as if it were a rhythmic gymnastics ribbon, turning round and round until it was wrapped around him.
Then, with his empty hand, Birthday took a stun-gun from somewhere.
“Here it goes!! Ahm—”
Birthday had opened his mouth wide and put the stungun in it, then switched it on. A zap, then there was electricity— Birthday’s hair stood on end for a moment.
Lightning coiled around the hand he was using to hold the wire, then all at once the decorative LED lights lit up.
Using <Electric Shock Minimum>, Birthday can freely manipulate and amplify electricity through his body. Just like Nice, he is a Minimum Holder.
Nice and Birthday have known each other since they were much younger. When they were kids, they met at Facultas, a top academy and educational institution that gathers Minimum Holders and gives them special training.
Both of them dropped out of the Academy— Birthday for health reasons, and Nice for his own reasons.
Teeth to the stun-gun, Birthday made a cocky face.
“Fhowizt, cuztomwahn—!”
“How is it, customer-san? is what he said. Should just friggin’ take the stun-gun out.”
Nice commented. Birthday lowered his stun-gun, striking a pose as the decorations sparkled with electricity.
“What do you think now, Nice? Right now I’m shining just like a human Christmas tree!”
“It’s not shining anymore, though. Looks like she’s not buying it.”
“For real—?”
Birthday looked back at the little girl in dismay. Despite having a curious look in her eyes, she was still expressionless.
“Maybe if it were actually Christmas, she’d take it, don’t you think, Birthday?”
“To think that even this won’t work... She’s so hard to please, this little girl. A world where I can’t even make children laugh— it’s just so damn sad...” After saying a such a lofty thing, Birthday fell to his knees.
“Let me take it from here, Birthday! I want to make children laugh, too.”
Nice held his hand out to Birthday. Birthday grasped it tightly.
“...I’ll leave this to you. If anyone can find the perfect quick trick, it’d be Nice-kun, ‘Hama’s laughingstock!”
“Who are you calling a laughingstock? Don’t friggin’ call me that.”
Nice complained, smiling anyway. He stuffed a hand into his pocket and took all the coins there, then opened his palm in front of the little girl.
“Here. Two one-hundred-yen coins, one fifty-yen coin, and three ten-yen coins. This is all I have right now.”
“That’s a pathetic amount, you can’t even use it to buy a meat bun in Chinatown. Even a meat bun is about three hundred yen.”
dissed Birthday. Nice countered,
“Sometimes you can get it by haggling! Don’t say useless things!”
Fine, fine, Birthday backed off, shrugging his shoulders.
Nice shifted his gears, speaking to the little girl again:
“Ah, well... This money is super important to me. It’s something you should never let go. Do you understand?”
After a short pause and a gulp, the little girl nodded.
“That’s why, this money will never go away. Even if you do something like this!”
Nice gripped the coins then tossed them all up in the air.
The little girl’s round eyes watched the coins fly towards the sky.
While she was distracted, Nice put on his headphones. She could only watch as all the coins fell from the sky, to a distance Nice’s hands could reach.
—Perfect. I calculated correctly. Throwing them upwards was a good idea.
Nice snapped his fingers and activated his <Speed of Sound Minimum>.
Right when the coins stopped falling, the water fountain behind Nice also froze, like a crystal sculpture.
Nice plucked the coins out of the air one by one. With the last coin in Nice’s hand, the water in the fountain started moving again. The Minimum’s effect had run out.
Nice took off his headphones and offered his closed fist to the girl, opening it with a tada!
On his palm were the exact same number of coins he’d shown her earlier.
“See? Something important like this won’t just disappear!” Nice put the coins back in his pocket triumphantly.
Boo, boo! Birthday hurled his booing at Nice.
“Why would she buy something like that? Didn’t you just totally rip us off? You totally cheated and used your Minimum!”
“Didn’t you use your Minimum too, Birthday?!”
“Okay, that’s true, but you couldn’t make her laugh either!”
“No way!” exclaimed Nice, looking the little girl over again.
Nice, just like Birthday did earlier, fell to his knees.
“If I made a wrong move then I could’ve lost all my money for nothing...”
“Yeah, this one’s a tough cookie...”
Birthday sniffed loudly and turned away from the little girl, shaking Nice’s shoulders.
“This one little girl, we can’t make her laugh,” Nice wailed. “...It’s hopeless...” Birthday admitted.
Without Birthday nor Nice realizing it, a small group of people had gathered around them in a circle.
It’s because they kept doing things that made them stand out.
However, neither Nice nor Birthday cared much for the onlookers. The only thing they cared about was the little girl in front of them who wouldn’t laugh. Nice and Birthday croaked out:
“But Birthday, we...”
“Yeah, Nice. We can’t let it end like this.”
They felt in sync with their determination. There was only one thing left they could do. They shouted, voices overlapping: “Our Last-ditch Attempt!” “Our Secret Technique!”
‘Funny faces!’
Using all their fingers, Nice and Birthday pulled as many funny faces as they could think of.
Laughter erupted from the circle of spectators.
“The heck is that?” “Super weird!” “They’ve gone crazy!” “Young people sure are full of energy!”
Everyone around them was buying it. Except the most crucial one of them; the little girl didn’t even crack a smile.
Nice and Birthday moved their hands off their faces and let them fall, lowering their heads.
“Hey, Birthday. We did all we could, right?”
“We did. We really did all we could, Nice.”
But just as Nice and Birthday said that, the little girl touched their heads with her small hands.
As soon as she did, for a moment, an image of a girl flashed in Nice’s mind.
“Wha— just now—?” “What did I just see?”
Nice and Birthday looked at each other.
“Just now, did you see it too, Birthday? That girl?”
“Yeah, I saw it! I’m not a lolicon, but that girl looked cute, whoa!”
A beautiful girl: these are the words that fit her. She looked to be around elementary-age.
She had long, glossy black hair. She had a somber look on her face, but it was a look that was suited features.
Her beauty, almost artificial, somehow resembled that of the little girl who wouldn’t laugh.
The little girl withdrew her hands from Nice’s and Birthday’s heads. She was as expressionless as ever, but Nice felt like he could see something in her eyes.
“...Could it be, you were looking for that girl?”
Languidly, the little girl bowed her head.
“You want us to look for her. Is that what you’re hoping?”
The little girls eyes wavered. She hesitated, but even if it was a small one she had given a nod.
Help me. Nice felt as if he heard a voice call out to him.
“Alright. I accept your request.”
Nice stood up, carelessly wiping his palm off on his shirt before holding it out towards the girl in greeting.
Very nervously, the girl let Nice shake her hand. Her fingers were unusually stiff, unlike how soft her childlike face appeared.
Nice tucked the sense of discomfort away in the back of his mind and introduced himself:
“I’m Nice. I’m a detective.”
Birthday got up cheerfully and started gathering the lights he’d tangled all around his body.
“Then shall we? You gotta do some work to find people, you know... Hi, hi, sorry for the ruckus~”
Birthday sang to the crowd, out of courtesy, before he began to walk.
Slightly surprised, Nice asked Birthday:
“You’re gonna help me? We’re not gonna make any money out of this. And actually, Birthday, don’t you have any handyman work today?”
Birthday stopped to spare him a glance.
“Work? Well, there was a request to be some disagreeable fella’s bodyguard, but that’s fine. I mean, since it’s come to this, we should listen to the wishes of a girl who’s so troubled she can’t even smile.”
“So that’s it,” Nice laughed in agreement. Then, taking little girl’s hand, he began to walk as well.
“‘Cause there really are some things more important than money.”
✢
“Sheesh, that Nice. He really does just do things his way.”
Murasaki complained to himself after the client who requested the search for her daughter left. Damn it, Murasaki sighed.
“...I know you’ve told me before, Nice, we have to only accept serious requests. I get where you’re coming from. But that’s not how the world works. Not everyone will understand what you believe. So I end up having no choice but to do this.”
Since that woman client had left, there were no other customers in Nowhere. It’s fine to check how much this is now, right? thought Murasaki as he opened the envelope containing the advance payment.
The envelope was snatched from beside him. Murasaki turned in that direction in surprise, shifting his eyeglasses. There Koneko was smling widely, envelope in hand.
“Hey, what are you doing all of a sudden—”
“It’s not all of a sudden or anything. I’ll take care of this, for the stuff that needs to be paid off.”
Though Koneko was smiling, the light in her eyes shone with conviction. Murasaki let out another sigh, smaller this time.
“Can’t do anything about that, we have been borrowing money. That’s mostly Nice’s fault... If there’s any money left after the overdue fee for using the table, and that idiot’s tab for food and drinks are all paid off, give it to me.”
“Mhm, I’ll properly and fairly return what’s left of it after everything’s paid off...”
Koneko nodded repeatedly, looking quite satisfied. Murasaki readjusted his glasses with a hand, getting up after looking towards where the woman had entered before handing them the envelope paying for her daughter’s search.
“Are you going out, Murasaki-san?”
“Searching for people takes hard work and a lot of time. I don’t have the luxury to be warming chairs with my ass.”
“Take care,”
Koneko called out, wishing Murasaki off.
At that moment, Murasaki heard Hajime order, “Three large servings of curry. On Nice’s tab.” But Murasaki, thinking he had no obligation to tell Nice about it, let himself forget all about it right on the spot.
He was only thinking about the request he’d just accepted.
“At any rate, it’d be best if I could get any help.”
Right as he left the cafe, Murasaki brought out his smartphone. He dialed a contact he considered reliable, hoping he would answer. After two rings, the call went through.
‘Murasaki? What is it?’
“Ratio, do you have a minute?”
On the other end of the call was a man named Ratio. He is a doctor who works for a large hospital, but he is also Birthday’s partner in handyman work.
‘Yeah, it’s fine. I’m free, I got off just now.’
Thinking of Ratio's appearance, that he’s always wearing a white coat and an eyepatch on his right eye, Murasaki continued:
“You’re free? Great, I want you to ask Birthday to help out with a request. It’s to search for someone.”
‘Unfortunately, I’m the only one on who’s free. It’s Birthday’s fault.’
Upon hearing Ratio’s explanation, Murasaki got a good grasp of the situation.
“...So your playboy went off somewhere and left you with all the work too, huh?”
‘There was a bodyguard job request but it seems he’s got some more important business to take care of. In any case, it’s probably about a girl— So, what’s the plan? If you’re fine with me, I can help you out. I’m off work today because I spend my unpaid leaves to help Birthday with his odd jobs.’
Ratio is more coolheaded than Murasaki, and also more mature. But from his placid tone, Murasaki could sense his frustration. Phew, Murasaki sighed lightly.
“...We both suffer, don’t we?”
‘I’m used to it. You, too, Murasaki, you’ll get used to it eventually. Truth be told, if we get angry at our partners every time, there’ll never be an end to it.’
Ratio chuckled. It made Murasaki feel at ease.
Ratio and Murasaki, just like Nice and Birthday, are from Facultas. Ratio dropped out of the academy in the same season as Birthday, while Murasaki studied at the Kansai campus of Facultas, so they weren’t acquainted during their time as students.
Murasaki only met Ratio in the last year when he quit the academy. And though they haven’t known each other for very long, Ratio has become someone Murasaki can count on.
Birthday and Nice are the same breed, so Ratio’s suffering is something I can understand.
Without voicing his empathy, Murasaki spoke,
“No end to it, huh... You’re right about that. All we can do is fulfill the requests we accepted— It’d be better to tell you all the details by showing you. Can you leave there?”
‘I can, no problem. Should I go to Nowhere?’
“No, let’s go to another cafe. There’s one closer to the hospital where you work, right, Ratio? There would be fine.”
‘Roger that. I’ll go right now, meet you there.’
“Right, thanks.”
Once the call was over, Murasaki began putting his phone in his pocket but stopped his hand mid-gesture.
“...Should I call Nice? Nah, I won’t. Since it’s him, he’s probably started doing something else. Well... He’s probably not gonna get any money out of it though.”
Laughing once, Murasaki put his smartphone in his pocket and headed for the meeting place.
✢
Once Murasaki had gone out, Koneko brought out a laptop she uses specifically for bookkeeping and began to work on accounting; her first order of business, naturally, was liquidating Nice’s debt.
“Master, can I have the account book with Nice-kun’s tab?”
“Wait for a while... I’m finishing a serving, see.”
Master put out the dish for Hajime’s order of large curry servings.
On the large dish was more than twice as much rice and curry as there would be on a regular serving.
Hajime is a small girl and looks delicate, but she loves eating, and she loves eating a lot. Her large curry was three serving’s worth.
Having been waiting with a spoon in hand, Hajime tasted the curry as soon as she received it.
“Now, to get that book...”
Master retreated into the backroom of the cafe. Seeing him turn his back, Koneko began to type away at the keyboard.
Koneko stopped her hands for a second to look at Hajime.
“Ah, I just remembered! Hajime-chan, Hajime-chan, can I ask you to do me one favor?”
Her cheeks stuffed with curry, Hajime replied:
“Me? What?”
“Ah, well, there’s a book I’d like you to buy. Just a magazine with shoujo manga.”
Hajime swallowed the food in her mouth and drank some water before answering.
“Right now, I’m facing off with this curry with everything I’ve got, so I can’t.”
After answering frankly, Hajime turned away and started eating her curry again. To her profile, Koneko said,
“If you go buy it, I’ll make you a parfait to go with that.”
Hajime about-faced instantaneously, and without even changing her expression, complied.
“Tell me the title of the magazine. As Hamatora Detective Agency’s number one assistant, I’ll acquire the magazine without fail.”
“Really?! This month’s issue is going to be sold out soon because it has rare bonus materials! Can you do it now?”
“Just one second. I’m gonna finish my food first.”
Hajime vigorously shoveled spoonful after spoonful of curry into her mouth. Koneko watched as the big serving of curry disappeared. Lastly, Hajime finished her cup of water and put her spoon down.
“Thanks for the meal. Tell Master that I’m having my second serving with that parfait when I get back.”
“You got it. Now here’s the title of the magazine and money to buy it.”
Koneko handed Hajime a 500-yen coin and a memo with the magazine’s title on it. Hajime glanced at the memo and put it in her pocket along with the coins.
“Roger. I’ll get going now.”
she said in her usual bland tone, and with light footsteps, as if she were skipping, Hajime left the cafe. As if to replace her, another girl in the same generation as Hajime entered the cafe.
It was a sweet-looking girl with beautiful big blue eyes, and long blonde hair tied into twin tails. She was wearing a white coat that was reminiscent of a researcher’s lab gown.
“Hi, Koneko. Long time no see~”
“Ah, Honey-san, welcome!”
Honey. She is half-German, half-American. She and Koneko are acquaintances.
“Oh? Where’s Nice and the others? Out on a job?”
“Nice-kun and the others went out just a while ago, do you have business with them?”
“Nhn, not really. Just kinda wanted to see them. I’m meeting with Art today. Do you mind if I kill some time here?”
“Not at all. Please go sit at any table you like.”
Closing the laptop, Koneko switched her mind into service mode.
Koneko immediately prepared a tray with cold water and a moistened hand towel, then headed towards Honey’s table.
“Are you ready to order?”
“Then, your house-blend. No need for milk and sugar.”
Koneko felt like she’d heard somewhere at some point that Germans like to drink good coffee.
If you look at her, you’d guess she’d be more of a tea person. But to begin with, she’s also part-American, isn’t she? I wonder if Americans like coffee over tea, too...
Thinking this but deciding not to say anything unnecessary, Koneko took her order.
“Got that... Wait a second, Master hasn’t come back yet...”
As if on cue, with perfect timing as Koneko turned around, Master had reappeared with a notebook in one hand.
“Here’s the account book— oh, a customer? What’s the order?”
Master set the notebook down somewhere within his reach and put his working face on.
“Our house-blend,” said Koneko. Master started preparing the coffee drip right away.
Honey felt a tad bit sheepish.
“Could I have gotten in the way of you doing some accounting work?”
“Ah, don’t worry about it. It’s just about liquidating Nice-kun’s tab, so I can push it off.”
“Liquidating his tab? Did he get some incidental income?”
Nice is always in a tight spot at the end of the year; Anyone who knows Nice even a little can guess that he’s that type of person.
“Yes, that’s right. It’s from a payment for a request Murasaki-san accepted, to search for someone.”
“Search for someone?” inquired Honey. Koneko pondered how she should reply.
Honey works as a bodyguard. With a great man named Three, they take requests to just about anywhere in the world, not only to be bodyguards but also to clean up messes.
Since they are agents effective at resolving messes, they also often receive requests from even the police.
The person Honey said she was meeting is Art, a police detective from the Yokohama Police.
As it seemed, the request Murasaki had accepted might also concern the police. If there is a connection between his case and the continuous disappearance of attractive women, Murasaki might find himself involved.
A detective’s gone off to go look for a missing person. Koneko wondered what Art and Honey would think.
In some cases, civilians will just do more than they have to even if everyone’s told to practice caution, so it’s not that strange.
—Koneko thought better than to say anything.
“As an intermediary for Hamatora Detective Agency, I cannot divulge any details.”
Koneko wore a business smile. Honey giggled.
“If it’s not gonna mess with the police, you would tell me, right?”
It appeared Koneko was found out. Having no choice, Koneko smiled timidly.
“As expected of Honey-san who has the <Information Analysis> minimum.”
Honey was in the same batch as Nice, Birthday, Ratio, and Art at the Academy. While Nice and the others dropped out, only Honey and Art graduated.
Honey’s Minimum Ability allows her to predict up to ten minutes into the future through a unique urban-grasping system application that she developed herself, <Mighty Script>, with the help of her special computer terminal, a tablet called <Mighty>. But just now, Honey didn’t use <Mighty>.
“I didn’t have to go as far as to use my Minimum, it was simple reasoning. I was just wondering if that has something to do with why Art called me. I won’t ask anymore. I’ll keep it from Art for you, too, at least for now.”
“Thank you very much.”
Koneko bowed after seeing Honey smile.
“By the way,” Koneko changed the topic. “So it’s gotten to this point, Honey-san, you and Art-san. I wonder how that will go?”
“How what will go?”
“Aren’t you two getting together? Uhm, I suppose you guys suit each other...”
Honey’s eyes grew wide.
“Me and Art?”
Right after she said that, she started cackling,
“Ahahahaha! I’ve never thought of that!”
“W—was... Was what I said really that weird?”
Koneko asked, feeling extremely flustered. After a while, Honey stopped laughing out loud and flashed her another small smile.
“Well, if it weren’t a weird thing, I wouldn’t have a weird reaction, right? But Art, huh... He’s like my comrade in arms.”
“Comrade in arms?”
“That’s right. Art is someone I respect, and I have faith in him. If a situation ever comes where he has to shoot me, I won’t even have a problem with it because I believe in him.”
“...Somehow, that kind of relationship is better than being lovers...”
“I don’t think about it that way. Like, sure it’s special but it’s not about being lovers.”
The expression on Honey’s face changed suddenly; Koneko thought it was the expression of an innocent girl. No doubt that Honey has someone she’s interested in, Koneko thought.
Someone popped into Koneko’s head; a big man who always had an austere look on his face— It was Three.
Honey and Three are as far apart in age as a parent and child would be.
No way, that’s not possible. With this in mind, Koneko decided to ask anyway,
“I know you’ve been working with Three-san for a long time, right? What about Three-san?”
Honey’s face suddenly flared, and she blushed up to her ears.
“Wh-wh-wh-what are you saying so suddenly, I didn’t hear—?”
Honey hurriedly gulped down some water, choked, then ended up coughing.
Koneko watched Honey with a warm smile.
—Ah, so is that it...?
After a long while, Honey wiped her face with a handkerchief she took out from somewhere and spoke with it over her mouth:
“Th—that guy, look, he’s got that kind of face but he’s actually sensitive— I mean, he’s got plenty of soft spots here and there, too. He’s got some weird hobbies like reading shoujo manga, but it’s also kinda endearing... Ah, oh no, what am I saying? Geez, it’s because Koneko asked—!”
—Uhm. I don’t remember ever asking about that much though...
As Koneko troubled herself over how to respond to that, the scent of coffee suddenly spread throughout the cafe.
“Coffee’s ready,” Master announced.
“Well would you look at that! Go and bring it here!” Honey commanded hastily, as if to dodge further questions.
Feeling deeply relieved, Koneko smiled, said “Yes, I’ll be right back,” and went back to the counter.
On the tray was a cup of coffee on a saucer as well as a few almond chocolates on a small dish.
“Just a little extra service.”
Past Honey’s exchange with Koneko, Honey might be able to feel grateful for Master’s thoughtfulness.
Thank you very much, Koneko said to Master before taking the coffee.
When Koneko had delivered the coffee to the table, a young man entered the cafe.
He had shadowy but delicate features, and a lithe body dressed properly in a suit.
“Hello,” he greeted in a refreshing voice; it was a police inspector from the Yokohama police department, Art.
Honey turned around and waved at him.
“Hi, Art!”
“Sorry for being a little late. Koneko, could I ask for a cup of tea?”
Having apologized to Honey and ordered from Koneko in the same breath, Art took a seat opposite Honey at her table.
“Yes, tea coming right up. Please wait for a little.”
Koneko glanced at Master. Without her having to repeat the order, Master had already begun preparing tea. Art’s usual order is tea, and Koneko mused that she’d never seen Art drink coffee.
“Oh, Art-san, won’t you try some coffee next time? It’s delicious, Master’s coffee.”
“The truth is, I’m really not a coffee person. It’s my bad, even though you’re very considerate.”
Art said with shame, chuckling wryly.
“Ah, my bad as well for saying something unnecessary, I’m sorry. I’ll be quiet so I don’t interrupt you anymore.”
After apologizing, Koneko left the table. Art then turned to Honey.
“You guys coming is a big help, Honey. What business do you guys have in Japan? If you guys are very busy, I won’t bother you anymore.”
Art told Honey. She made a slightly off-putting expression and made a sidelong glance.
“...It’s Three. He said there’s a shoujo manga magazine that he really wants to get today.”
A shoujo manga magazine? Those words worried Koneko but she didn’t say anything so as not to disrupt the mood of their talk.
“Ah, now that you mention it, Sensei does really like shoujo manga.”
Art calls Three sensei. Three is a guru of a military-style ‘command self-defense’ type of wrestling.
Three is also adept in Jiu Jitsu, and Art had learned Judo from him.
Art continued after getting that remark out,
“But is it really worth all the effort to go buy them physically? Electronic versions are available these days.”
“It’s pretty difficult to get the magazines overseas as it is, and somehow the e-versions are less interesting. But it’s a good thing, isn’t it? Because we get to see each other like this now. So, what do we have to do?”
Honey’s expression became thoughtful, as did Art’s.
“I need you to do something for me, even if it’s just for today. I’m certain that your information-processing ability will be a great help.”
“Had a feeling it would be that. Can I have the info ASAP?”
“Yeah.” Art brought something out from the pocket of his suit, then he looked towards Koneko.
“Where are Nice and the others today?”
“They’re out. I don’t think they’ll be back for a while.”
“That’s a relief. This time, these photos really can’t be shown to anyone except people involved in the investigation. Koneko, you too, could you pretend you didn’t see anything?”
“I understand,” Koneko replied. With a small nod, Art spread out the articles on the tabletop.
There were five photos, all of which were of young and attractive women.
Additionally, there were five sheets of printed paper.
They seemed to contain succinct summaries of the women in the photos.
“Recently, there have been incidents of girls disappearing quickly one after the other. Although there’s a possibility that they were kidnapped, we hardly know anything yet.”
“I read about the incident on the newspaper before I came here. Well, I’ll borrow those for a bit.”
Honey fished her computer terminal tablet out of her bag. It contained an urban-grasping system application called <Mighty Script>; it is also called <Mighty>.
Using the camera on <Mighty>, Honey took photo after photo of the documents.
<Mighty> then displayed the photos and profiles that were converted into data.
Honey organized the information on <Mighty>, taking sips of her coffee every once in a while. She put one almond chocolate in her mouth and bit down on it, muttering once she was sure,
“...I got it.”
“Have you already figured out what’s behind the situation?!”
“Don’t be so hasty, Art, it isn’t like you. What I got is that the information is severely insufficient. Even if I use my Minimum, it wouldn’t be enough.”
“...My bad, it wasn’t in my place to go off.”
Despondently, Art shrank back, and the cafe quieted all over.
“Tea’s ready.”
Master announced. Koneko went to the counter and carried back a tray with nothing but black tea on it this time.
“Sorry to make you wait.”
“...Thank you.”
To cool his head, Art took a sip of the black tea.
“In times like these, when you think about the horrible things those missing people must be going through, it’s so hard to calm down no matter what I do. The only thing I can do are straightforward investigations.”
Because unlike you guys, I don’t have a Minimum. Art said this in a long breath.
Art was also from Facultas. However, unlike Nice and the others, Art did not have a Minimum Ability. Though he exhibited Minimum Aptitude, he could not manifest it into an ability.
Neverthelesss, putting great effort into everything, Art managed to graduate Facultas with an exceptional record.
After graduating from Facultas, he passed the Government Employee Career Exam, and young as he was, attained his position as police superintendent. He is seen by the police organization to be an extremely excellent officer with a very promising future.
There was absolutely no one who had ridiculed Art’s efforts, and no one who could even come close to him.
“Alright, time to hurry this up.”
Honey drank all her coffee and put the rest of the almond chocolates in her mouth. While chewing, she put <Mighty> in her bag and got up.
“This information really is nowhere near enough. So first of all, let’s use these photos and get more information. What’s that you said, Art— don’t you think everything starts with a good, straightforward investigation?”
“I guess so.”
The determination returned to Art’s face.
“I’m sorry, Master. Looks like I won’t be able to finish all the tea you brewed for me. I’ll leave my payment here. I’ll drop by again, please send my regards to Nice and the others, too.”
Art cleaned up the materials he laid out on the table, pulled out two bills from his wallet, and set them down.
There was obviously more money than was payment for both the tea and the coffee, but Koneko accepted it without trouble, knowing it was hush money for the information she’d seen.
“Yes, we’ll look forward to your next visit. Please take care.”
Koneko saw Art and Honey off with a smile, then took to cleaning the table.
She tilted her head slightly.
“A shoujo manga he wants to get today, was it? Three-san will probably run into Hajime-chan, won’t he? This month’s issue will be super rare... What if they clash—? No, no, that won’t happen...”
Koneko interrupted herself with a giggle, then went back to doing accounting for Nice’s debt.
✢
“Hey, you foreign-looking guy over there, hold it!”
called a girl’s voice at the street corner, to a man whose big, martial-arts body was covered in a pastor’s vestments—
Three stopped in his tracks to turn around and was mildly surprised to see someone unexpected.
“If it isn’t Hajime. What is it?”
Three and Hajime are acquainted with each other. They have seen each other several times.
“Ah, it’s Three. Now that I look at you, your face is pretty scary.”
Because Hajime raised her voice, he had a surprised look on his face.
On Three’s big, square-ish face is his nose, thickly sculpted and reminiscent of a lion. There is also a scar that looks like an X, spanning from his forehead, through his eyebrows, all the way to his cheeks.
He always has such a serious look on his face that children could cry if he approached. But even if he looked like this, he’s actually fond of children.
“Sorry for my scary face. What do you want, Hajime?”
he asked, in a low and soft tone that was gentlemanly. Hajime answered after a short silence,
“The clerk at the convenience store said that a foreign-looking guy bought that last copy. So, please give it to me. I can pay for it with money properly.”
In Three’s hands was a plastic bag from the convenience store, and in it was the shoujo manga magazine.
I came to Japan because I really wanted it on the release date, but the bookstore I went to was sold out already by some fate, and I finally found it in a convenience store and bought it right out of their storefront inventory.
Oh no, Three groaned. It was the wish of a child. Any other time, he would have given it away without hesitating, and for free, too.
However, he couldn’t let go of this one volume so easily.
It was because this was a completely new work with unserialized stories from one of Three’s favorite manga authors who hasn’t announced new content in several years.
“...It pains me to say this, but I can’t hand this magazine over.”
“—Even if I said I would pay for it with money? You won’t change your mind?”
“I absolutely can’t. If you’ve looked all over the place for this, too, Hajime... Then you’ll understand. If I miss out on this, I might never get my hands on it ever again. I have a good reason not to give up on it.”
“Me too, I have a good reason not to give up on it. Even if I have to beat you up or kill you, I’ll pay for it.”
Three couldn’t have known that Hajime’s reason for not yielding was so that she could have a parfait.
Judging by Hajime’s weighty words and the serious look on her face, Three thought that it must have been a deep reason.
“It’s in my principle not to wage violence against girls... But I don’t think I can give up, no matter what. I have no choice. I’ll have to treat becoming your opponent as training.”
There was a time not long ago when Three had fought Hajime; he was aware of how strong Hajime was.
Three, thinking it wouldn’t be right of him to hold back on a girl like Hajime, put the plastic bag containing the magazine on a nearby post.
“If you defeat me, just take it. At that time, the payment won’t be necessary anymore.”
“I said I would pay for it!”
Then, Hajime disappeared in a flash.
“What—?!”
Hajime caught Three off guard, and he was wide open. Three felt wind blow behind him.
Instinctively, Three turned around, and came a few centimeters face to face with the heel of Hajime’s boot.
Her kick was aimed right at his chin. Three felt a chill run up his spine.
Hajime’s kick, targeted at Three’s face, relentlessly blew through in a sharp arc.
Three crossed his arms in front of him and took the attack.
Three immediately felt the impact on his arms.
Hajime’s body is small and light, but if she put enough power into it she could have easily fractured Three’s face.
Her technique was beyond even a karate dojo’s instructor.
—Her skill’s even sharper than when we fought before. Does that mean she wasn’t serious then?
So you can do this much if you get serious. Three braced himself.
If I draw this fight out, I might get myself injured by Hajime one way or another.
If I want to make this quick, I have to do a locking technique in Judo and make her give up.
Three is a guru of a ‘command self-defense’ type of wrestling. He knows throwing techniques, locking techniques, even strangleholds; there was no way he could lose in a professional fight.
—It’s awful of me, but I have to get serious now! Dropping his guard, Three caught Hajime’s ankle as she kicked him. He planned to put pressure on her ankle while he was at it.
But the moment Three caught Hajime’s ankle, she punched his elbow.
The precise blow numbed Three all the way to his fingertips, making him release Hajime’s ankle from his hold.
Hajime just did a move from Chinese martial arts when she raised the knuckle of her middle finger in her fist and sharply struck Three’s elbow.
Then from that extreme stance, Hajime flipped backwards away from Three.
She landed on her feet without a sound. That movement made her look as flexible as a cat.
“Ryuuzu-ken is a difficult move to master. You might get injured if you don’t train yourself to do it properly.”
“Ryuu-what-ken? I didn’t know it was called like that. I just know it hurts a lot when I do it.”
Hajime usually wears fingerless gloves that have small, protective armor shells. They reduced the effect of the Ryuuzu-ken by half, but also reduced the damage that would come back to her by that much.
After swaying, Hajime took her stance once more. Her body was utterly overflowing with endless power.
“So? Do you feel like giving up now?”
Although she looked like a child, within her was an elite fighter. Three acknowledged Hajime.
“You’re really formidable, Hajime.”
A big smile grew on Three’s lips.
“How interesting! I said this would only be training, but that’s okay! I’ll take you on seriously as my opponent!”
Three is a Minimum Holder that possesses the <Beast Minimum>.
“Oh Lord. Please forgive me for staining these fangs and claws with blood. I am the beast—”
Offering a prayer to the god he believes in: this is the condition for invocation of Three’s Minimum.
His hair stiffened as he immersed himself, and a beast’s instinct manifested itself in his appearance. In his eyes were an irrefutable glint: he was the ruler of all the animal kingdom.
“Roooooaaarrr!!”
Hardly worrying about drawing attention in public, Three let out his beast-cry.

Because it matches the sort of mood (Solemnly Dreamlike) that a both a friend and myself would love to play a game in but we'd love to have some other options to try out for capturing that sort of mood mechanics-wise (Disclaimer neither of us really know what we like mechanically as we've never played a tabletop game before)
Ooh, that’s a tough one. Among the Beautiful Creatures (warning: direct PDF link) is very nearly unique in its Jim-Henson-does-Fritz-Leiber aesthetic. That said, there are a few other games I’m aware of that are at least vaguely in the same ballpark:
In a Wicked Age has a few novel tricks to its nuts and bolts mechanics, but where it truly stands out is the setup phase. Rather than using pre-made scenarios, the group draws a hand of playing cards and looks up the results on a set of special tables called “oracles”. This provides a selection of elements and motifs that the players and the GM use to collaboratively brainstorm the scenario they’re about to play.
Itras By is a Norwegian urban fantasy game set in a pastiche of the metropolises of continental Western Europe circa 1920. More surreal than solemn, the basic conceit is that, while the city centre is relatively stable, reality becomes progressively more unhinged the further one strays toward the outskirts, eventually breaking down into psychedelia. Player characters are, of course, those who have reason to stray.
In Noumenon, player characters awaken, amnesiac, in the bodies of enormous insects, and explore a sprawling, seemingly inescapable mansion outside time and space in search of enlightenment. Mechanical highlights include communal hit points and the use of dominoes as a core resolution mechanic.
Valley of Eternity is a game in the classic swords and sorcery mould, focusing on gritty adventure in a harsh, unforgiving wilderness. Players take on the roles of outcast warrior-philosophers, sworn to defend the very communities that shun them, both through strength of arms and with the aid of esoteric mental disciplines that allow them to craft cunning illusions, manipulate objects from afar, or even imprison enemies within their own minds. Also, all playable characters are penguins.
Wisher, Theurgist, Fatalist (warning: direct PDF link) sends players on a journey through a world that does not, properly speaking, exist, and it’s their responsibility to bring it into being. A unconventional fusion of a tabletop RPG and a nomic, it includes formal procedures for players declaring setting details, inventing new game mechanics on the spot, and even deposing the GM and taking her place! An in-depth discussion of its mechanics can be found here.

Please read and share: International Alert Message about COVID-19. United Health Professionals The lockdown « a global scientific fraud of unprecedented proportions »
By United Health Professionals
Global Research, February 18, 2021 United Health Professionals
Source: https://www.globalresearch.ca/international-alert-message-about-covid-19-united-health-professionals/5737680
We bring to the attention of our readers, this important international statement by health professionals, medical doctors and scientists, which has been sent to the governments of thirty countries
Below is the complete text which was sent to the governments.
Link to original document: Very Urgent : International Alert message about COVID-19
See here for list of governments to which the letter was sent.
The text includes quotations from prominent scholars and health professionals
Related Health Professionals Document (pdf version uploaded to GR)
Selected Highlights
Stay home, save lives » was a pure lie.
Remove the following illegal, non-scientific and non-sanitary measures : lockdown, mandatory face masks for healthy subjects, social distancing of one or two meters.
The lockdown not only killed many people but also destroyed physical and mental health, economy, education and other aspects of life.
The natural history of the virus [the coronavirus] is not influenced by social measures [lockdown, face masks, closure of restaurants, curfew
When the state knows best and violates human rights, we are on a dangerous course.
Exclude your experts and advisers who have links or conflicts of interest with pharmaceutical companies :
Stop the vaccination campaigns and refuse the scam of the pseudo-health passport which is in reality a politico-commercial project
***
We are health professionals of the international collective : United Health Professionals, composed of more than 1,500 members (including professors of medicine, intensive care physicians and infectious disease specialists) from different countries of Europe, Africa, America, Asia and Oceania and, on August 26, 2020, we addressed to governments and citizens of countries around the world an alert message regarding the COVID outbreak.
First, let’s start with the conclusions of the 2010 report of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the management of the H1N1 epidemic :
« The Parliamentary Assembly is alarmed about the way in which the H1N1 influenza pandemic has been handled, ot only by the World Health Organization (WHO) but also by the competent health authorities at the level of the European Union and at national level. It is particularly troubled by some of the consequences of decisions taken and advice given leading to distortion of priorities of public health services across Europe, waste of large sums of public money and also unjustified scares and fears about health risks…grave shortcomings have been identified regarding the transparency of decision-making processes relating to the pandemic which have generated concerns about the possible influence of the pharmaceutical industry on some of the major decisions….unregulated or secret lobbying may be a danger and can undermine democratic principles and good governance ».
Know that the same mistakes made in the H1N1 epidemic are being repeated today in the COVID epidemic. You are the victims of the biggest health scam of the 21st century regarding the real danger of the virus, the measures to be taken, the figures, the tests and the treatments, and this was done with the same techniques of manipulation used during the epidemic of H1N1 or the Iraq war. Experts, professors of medicine as well as scientific and medical collectives began to alert others of this as early as March 2020.
The countries of the world (except rare cases like : Sweden, Belarus or Tanzania), without thinking, have only imitated and blindly followed others.
This epidemic is amplified, dramatized and instrumentalised by criminals who take advantage of it to achieve economic, political and ideological goals and agendas that are harmful to humanity and we will prove this to you. You must stop this global scam quickly (because it is a serious danger to your people and your country in terms of : health, economy, education, ecology and human rights) by immediately taking the following actions :
1-Lift all restrictions
Remove the following illegal, non-scientific and non-sanitary measures : lockdown, mandatory face masks for healthy subjects, social distancing of one or two meters. These crazy and stupid measures are heresies invented in 2020 that do not exist in medicine or public health and they are not based on any scientific evidence.
This is not how we manage an outbreak :
– « The world went mad » with coronavirus lockdowns which « fly in the face of what is known about handling virus pandemics » (Dr Anders Tegnell, Sweden’s chief epidemiologist, June 24, 2020).
– « The infection fatality rate seems to be about the same as for influenza, but we have never introduced these drastic measures before, when we had influenza pandemics. And we cannot live with them for years to come » (Prof. Peter Gøtzsche, December 1, 2020).
– « The decision of lockdown as the decision of wearing masks…are not based on scientific data…» (Prof. Didier Raoult, June 24, 2020).
– « The natural history of the virus [the coronavirus] is not influenced by social measures [lockdown, face masks, closure of restaurants, curfew, etc.]…The lockdown did not trigger the decrease in cases…As for the closure of restaurants which had very strict health protocols in place…of course, I have no way of defending it…it has not influenced the epidemic at all…The lockdown has not changed anything…» (Prof. Philippe Parola, December 3, 2020).
– « There is no scientific evidence to support the disastrous two-metre rule. Poor quality research is being used to justify a policy with enormous consequences for us all » (Professors Carl Heneghan and Tom Jefferson, June 19, 2020).
– « Grotesque, absurd and very dangerous measures…a horrible impact on the world economy…self- destruction and collective suicide… » (Prof. Sucharit Bhakdi, March 2020. He also sent, at the time, a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel).
In addition, these tyrannical measures violate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in its articles: 3, 5, 9, 12, 13, 17, 18, 20, 26, 27, 28, 30 and the UNICEF Convention on the Rights of the Child in its articles : 28, 29, 32, 37.
– « When the state knows best and violates human rights, we are on a dangerous course. The pandemic has led to the violation of basic human rights…There has not been the slightest ethical analysis of whether this was justified. It is not» (Prof. Peter Gøtzsche, December 4, 2020).
Forcing non-sick people to wear masks is not only a heresy but it is also harmful to health as well as to ecology and is a form of mistreatment :
– « Dictatorship of masks totally unfounded » (Prof. Christian Perronne, September 22, 2020).
– « The curfew…was used during the German occupation when the militia and the Gestapo went to the houses. And now we’ll have the police making visits to see if there are more than six people at the table ! What is this madness ?! » (Prof. Christian Perronne, October 15, 2020).
– « Every winter in Paris, the ICU beds are totally saturated. We transfer patients…every winter, in normal circumstances » (Prof. Bruno Mégarbane, anesthesiologist and intensive care physician, September 27, 2020)
« In neither of the 2 waves… all the ICU were not saturated, it is false ! » (Prof. Michaël Peyromaure, January 18, 2021)
2-Open up economy, schools, universities, air transport and hospital units.
3-Exclude your experts and advisers who have links or conflicts of interest with pharmaceutical companies
The 2010 report of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the management of the H1N1 epidemic also said :
« The Assembly calls on public health authorities at international, European and national level -and notably WHO-…to ensure that all persons subject to conflicts of interest are excluded from sensitive decision-making processes ».
Countries’ experts who pushed for these totally heretical measures are either followers, ignorant or corrupted by the pharmaceutical industry.
4-Require an international and independent investigation and that those responsible for this scam be tried
On October 1st, 2020, German lawyer Reiner Fuellmich announced that an international network of lawyers will argue the biggest tort case ever :
« The anti-corona measures have caused and continue to cause such devastating damage to the world’s population’s health and economy that the crimes committed by (…) the WHO must be legally qualified as actual crimes against humanity as defined in section 7 of the international criminal code ».
He said also that this must be called « a corona scandal and those responsible for it must be criminally prosecuted and sued for civil damages ». The investigation must focus, among others, on Bruce Aylward (WHO) and Neil Ferguson (ICL).
-On January 10, 2021 : A letter relayed by The Sun and written by lawyers, a member of Parliament, human rights activists and a former US Air Force general was addressed to the FBI and MI-5 along with security services in Canada, Germany and Australia, where the authors say :
« We are writing this letter to request that a federal investigation be commenced and/or expedited regarding the scientific debate on major policy decisions during the COVID-19 crisis. In the course of our work, we have identified issues of a potentially criminal nature and believe this investigation necessary to ensure the interests of the public have been properly represented by those promoting certain pandemic policies ».
The letter call which was « deliberately promulgated…to impoverish the nations who implemented it »
Rare countries like Sweden, Tanzania or Belarus -which can be congratulated- have refused the lockdown and have not blindly followed others and if we apply the reasoning of the lockdown defenders, the outcome must be a massacre or the saturation of their hospital system. Is this the case in these three countries ?
The answer is of course : no. Moreover, on September 15, 2020, The BMJ published an article entitled :
« COVID-19 : How does Belarus have one of the lowest death rates in Europe ? ».
These three countries are living proof of the lockdown scam and since this reality might wake up public opinion and people see that they have been lied to, a corrupt press has been spreading, from the beginning, articles and even fake news, against Sweden and Belarus.
The famous international slogan:
« Stay home, save lives » was a pure lie. On the contrary, the lockdown not only killed many people but also destroyed physical and mental health, economy, education and other aspects of life. For example, the lockdown in the USA has killed thousands of Alzheimer’s patients who have also died far from their families. In the United Kingdom : the lockdown killed 21,000 people.
The effects of the lockdown « have been absolutely deleterious. They did not save the lives they had announced they could be able to save…It is a weapon of mass destruction and we see its health…social…economic effects…which form the real second wave » (Prof. Jean-François Toussaint, September 24, 2020). Imprisoning its people is a crime against humanity that even the Nazis did not commit !
– « This country is making a dramatic mistake…What are we going to suggest ? That everyone stay locked up all his life because there are viruses outside ?! You’re all crazy, you’ve become all nuts !…we are setting the planet on fire » (Prof. Didier Raoult, October 27, 2020).
– « It is a big delirium but which is instrumentalised by big pharma and also politicians…It is a fear organized for political and economic reasons » (Prof. Christian Perronne, August 31, 2020).
– « It is just a global scam to make huge profits, bail out the banks and meanwhile ruin the middle classes in the name of an epidemic…made destructive by liberticidal, allegedly health measures » (Dr Nicole Delépine, December 18, 2020).
– « We have medical evidences that this is a scam » (Dr Heiko Schöning, July 2020).
– « Think about these two questions :…Is the coronavirus man-made ?…Have they tried to use this viral disease or this psychosis for their own ends & interests ?» (Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus). –
« There is utterly unfounded public hysteria driven by the media and politicians. It’s outrageous. This is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on an unsuspecting public….it should be known as nothing more than a bad flu season. this is not Ebola. It’s not SARS » (Dr Roger Hodkinson, November 13, 2020).
5-No longer blindly follow the recommendations of the WHO and require that it be totally reformed
An investigation carried out in 2016 (WHO in the clutches of lobbyists) showed an edifying radiography of the WHO ; a weakened structure subject to multiple conflicts of interest. This investigation has shown how private interests dominate public health in the WHO. Another investigation (Trust WHO) also revealed these serious anomalies.
6-Use the recognized measures for the management of epidemics
Such as recommendations of hand washing, sneeze or cough into the elbow, use a mask but only for patients and healthcare professionals (in specific situations), isolation of the sick, etc. The severity of an epidemic is assessed by the case fatality rate (CFR), among other things. However, the latter is very low (0.03-0.05%) and there is therefore no justification for taking measures that are not only disproportionate but also unscientific.
7-Make the media aware of their responsabilities
The media must, for example, stop talking about the coronavirus.
8-Remove the requirement for tests
The people who push for mandatory testing are defrauding governments and pursuing only economic goals. Nothing in this coronavirus (which is a benign virus and with a low CFR) justifies it. The flu infects one billion people each year, far more than SARS-CoV-2, spreads faster and has more populations at risk than this coronavirus and yet no test is required for travel. This is why Professor Didier Raoult called « a delirium » the claim that it is a serious illness and said, on August 19, 2020, that « it is not worse than the flu ».
– « The infection fatality rate for this new coronavirus is likely to be in the same ballpark as seasonal influenza » (Prof. John Ioannidis, April 17, 2020).
– « Reassure the large majority of the population that their risk of dying or getting severe disease from COVID-19 is very low » (Prof. John Ioannidis, April 22, 2020).
– « Do you realize ? Today, we are destroying the economy whereas finally the figures are comparable with those we experienced with the flu ! » (Prof. Christian Perronne, October 25, 2020).
9-Stop the vaccination campaigns and refuse the scam of the pseudo-health passport which is in reality a politico-commercial project
– « We don’t need it [the vaccine] at all…All this is about purely commercial goals » (Prof. Christian Perronne, June 16, 2020).
– « It is an old marketing principle of pharmaceutical companies : if they want to sell their product well, consumers must be afraid and see it as their salvation. So, we create a psychosis so that consumers crack up and rush on the vaccine in question » (Prof. Peter Schönhöfer).
– « As a doctor, I do not hesitate to anticipate the decisions of the government ; we must not only refuse these vaccines [against COVID-19], but we must also denounce and condemn the purely mercantile approach and the abject cynicism which guided their production » (Dr Pierre Cave, August 7, 2020).
– The COVID vaccine is « so, so unnecessary » (Prof. Sucharit Bhakdi, December 2, 2020).
– « I have never seen in the history of medicine that we urgently develop vaccines to vaccinate millions, billions of individuals for a virus that no longer kills except people at risk that we can identify, that we can treat…I have never seen a vaccine coming out after 2 months !…it takes years ! » (Prof. Christian Perronne, December 2, 2020).
– « We’re going too fast. If there was an emergency,…if today COVID-19 kills 50% of people, I will say let’s take risks…but here we have a virus that kills 0,05% and we will take all the risks ! I know there are billions behind this…Be carefull, this is very dangerous ! » (Prof. Christian Perronne, December 2, 2020).
To the question : « We do not need a general vaccine for the whole humanity with 0.05% deaths ? », Professor Christian Perronne replied : « It’s obvious ! ».
-In November 30, 2020 : Professor Christian Perronne wrote a letter in which he alerted on the danger of the vaccines based on genetic engineering :
« The people who promote these gene therapies, falsely called “vaccines”, are sorcerer’s apprentices and take…the citizens of the world for guinea pigs ».
-On October 19, 2020, in a correspondence to the journal The Lancet, scientists expressed concerns and warned :
« we are concerned that use of an Ad5 vector for immunisation against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) could similarly increase the risk of HIV-1 acquisition among men who receive the vaccine ».
-If people accept the COVID-19 vaccine, it will be :
« a mistake because we risk having absolutely unpredictable effects : for example, cancers…We are playing the total sorcerer’s apprentice…Man must not serve as a guinea pig, children must not serve as guinea pigs, it is absolutely unethical. There must not be deaths from vaccines » (Prof. Luc Montagnier, Virologist and Nobel Prize in Medicine, December 17, 2020.
-In Switzerland, a group of 700 doctors and health professionals called on January 15, 2021 for stopping the vaccination campaign
– « I think it’s [the COVID vaccine] downright dangerous. And I warn you, if you go along these lines, you are going to go to your doom » (Prof. Sucharit Bhakdi, December 2, 2020).
-On December 30, 2020 : Réaction 19 (a French association founded by lawyers with nearly 60,000 members) informed, in a press release, that it has filed a complaint concerning the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna “vaccines” for : deliberately endangering the life of others, aggravated deception, abuse of weakness and aggravated extortion.
-Recently, several Members of the European Parliament have alerted the population because they are forbidden to consult the contracts signed with pharmaceutical laboratories. This opacity is a proof that there are compromising things they want to hide. Michèle Rivasi, a Member of the European Parliament, even lodged a complaint5. As a reminder6: in 2009, Pfizer was fined $ 2.3 billion, the largest fine ever imposed by the courts of the United States on a pharmaceutical group. It was found guilty of fraudulent commercial practices.
In 2010, AstraZeneca was fined 520 million euros for recommending unauthorized use of a drug. In 2011, Merck payed a fine of $ 628.36 million to resolve allegations of off-label marketing and false statements about the cardiovascular safety of a drug.
In 2013, a fine of 1.62 billion euros was imposed on Johnson & Johnson to resolve criminal and civil liability arising from allegations relating to the prescription of three drugs including promotion for uses not approved as safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and payment of kickbacks to physicians and to the nation’s largest long-term care pharmacy provider.
You must stop this global scam where the politico-economic (even ideological) agendas of criminals are to COVID what the Iraq war was to the attacks of September 11th, 2001 (here’s a reminder of the scam of the Iraq war :
https://youtu.be/miZW_DGjIec
These criminals manipulate the countries of the world and want to make the epidemic last as long as possible to achieve their goals when the COVID epidemic should have been declared over at a certain period of the past year ; indeed, in medicine, the epidemic threshold from which the beginning and the end of an epidemic are declared is between 150 and 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The Tanzanian president is one of the few presidents who understood this because he declared on June 8, 2020 that the COVID epidemic was over in his country.
« The epidemic is over ! » (Professor Yoram Lass, July 2, 2020)7.
In this epidemic, the danger is not the coronavirus but the people who instrumentalise it and who are the real virus to fight.
The virus is completely innocent of what is happening (impoverishment, job losses, suicides, deaths, economic recession, unemployment, etc.) and the real culprits are those who have pushed the world to use these measures and the governments that continue to implement these measures despite alerts and warnings.
« The World Bank has just estimated that the corona pandemic has caused an increase of about 100 million people living in extreme poverty. This is not because of COVID-19. It is because of the draconian measures we have introduced » (Prof. Peter Gøtzsche, December 1, 2020).
The discrepancy and disproportion between the level of dangerousness of the virus and the magnitude of the measures taken (which are moreover totally heretical) are so obvious that it inevitably leads to the conclusion that there are other objectives behind. You have to be really blind or naive not to see it.
With these measures which have nothing to do with medicine or science, governments are not fighting the dangers of the virus but are fighting the basic rights of their people and destroying their health, economy, education, ecology, culture and other aspects of life.
« We have been living a kind of delirium from the start…We live in a world which is crazy :…the conditions that have been taken to fight this disease are conditions from another century…it is not even the level of the Middle Ages ! » (Prof. Didier Raoult, December 7, 2020).
On December 28, 2020, Randy Hillier, a Canadian MP, wrote this message on Twitter along with the hashtags : #We Are Living A Lie and #No More Lockdowns : « The lies and deceptions of Covid are over. How & why so many allowed themselves to be deceived will take years to uncover ».
It is not because the majority of countries are doing the same thing that it means that it is good or that it is the right thing to do. The number is not a criterion for knowing whether or not countries are right to apply these measures. On the contrary, many historical examples show that the majority is often wrong ; Iraq war (rare countries like France did not follow and were right), H1N1 (rare countries like Poland did not follow and were right), World War II, etc.
The charge of conspiracy theories is the response of those who have no arguments and a technique of mass manipulation because all what has been reported in this letter does not consist of theories but of truths and statements made by eminent experts including Nobel laureates for medicine.
This letter will be kept as proof that your government has been alerted. Everything must return immediately to normal and this global hostage-taking must stop because you have known that you have been the victims of the biggest health scam of the 21th century.
Please, don’t make the mistake of underestimating our letter or ignoring it. Here are 2 examples of what happens when a government makes this mistake :
Despite warnings from several experts about the danger of Dengvaxia (dengue vaccine), the Philippine government decided in 2016 to launch a vaccination campaign that ended later in a public scandal. According to the office of the prosecutor Persida Acosta, 500 children died as a result of this vaccine and several thousand are sick.
According to the prosecutor, the responsibilities are shared between the laboratory which sold “a dangerous vaccine” and the government which set up a “massive and indiscriminate” vaccination campaign, in deplorable conditions. This vaccine, however, promised to be a planetary triumph ; in 2015, Sanofi confirmed with great fanfare the marketing of a revolutionary dengue vaccine. It was a world first, the product of twenty years of research and 1,5 billion euros of investment.
Yet from the beginning, voices raised in the scientific community : Doctor Antonio Dans tried to warn about the inconclusive results of the first clinical trials. In the USA, Professor Scott Halstead, a world renowned specialist in the disease, even sent a video broadcasted in the Senate of the country to urge to suspend the vaccination program. The former health minister of the country has been charged in this scandal. « It’s the lure of profit that killed these children », said prosecutor Persida Acosta.
The second example is the scandal of the H1N1 vaccine which was bought by several countries despite alerts from Dr Wolfgang Wodarg, the chairman of the Health Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, who in a motion for a recommendation entitled « Faked Pandemics – a threat for health » said : « In order to promote their patented drugs and vaccines against flu, pharmaceutical companies have influenced scientists and official agencies, responsible for public health standards, to alarm governments worldwide.
They have made them squander tight health care resources for inefficient vaccine strategies and needlessly exposed millions of healthy people to the risk of unknown side-effects of insufficiently tested vaccines ». He was totally right because, later, in Europe alone the vaccine made 1,500 victims of narcolepsy including 80% of children, so much so that on November 24, 2013, the Swedish Minister of Social Affairs, Göran Hägglund, said he was ready to publicly apologize to the victims of the swine flu vaccine.
We cannot tell you everything in this letter, that is why you must consult the following documents very carefully because everything you have been told is detailed and argued there, and because you will discover other things that you do not know and by which you will be even shocked :

You Were Born for These Times January 2021

“I’m surrounded by people telling me these are the end of days. I’m surrounded by people telling me that statistically there’s no way out. Do you think I’m gonna take that remotely seriously? No. Because life is more magical than that. Stories are far more unexpected than that. And whilst I think it is utterly appropriate to bend our heads to the grief of our time, I’m not as a father going to be telling my children any time soon that all is doomed. That’s too morose a timeline for me. . . I tell the kids, whoever they are, whatever age, YOU WERE BORN FOR THESE TIMES!
God almighty, this is like you’re sitting at Camelot’s table. This is the moment to take courage, to raise yourself, to proceed with a degree of urgency, with a sense of humor, but to know that the mechanics of this time, the quests of this time, are utterly mythical in nature.” ~Martin Shaw, mythologist
I could not agree with Martin Shaw more. And welcome to 2021. And as an old warrior for wisdom and truth, I am not going down on my knees.
So, while the majority of folks have been glued to their televisions and social media platforms steeped in fear porn and marching in lockstep to the narrative with unquestioning compliance, I have long ago eschewed the propaganda machine to focus solely on my work with weekly retreat guests. My quest if you will, is to place my attention on the infinite genius of heart, mind and soul and I am witness to the innate ability of individuals to overcome, heal and grow, and step forth empowered. That is our birthright and there has been many a mythical story about overcoming destructive forces whether they be physical/mental/emotional challenges or a threat to the very soul of earth’s people.
We can achieve unlimited success on every level by turning off the mind control and reclaiming the fertile ground of our mind/body/spirit and our innate connection to Nature and the great Genius behind it.
I wrote in my April newsletter that this time we are in will birth “entrepreneurs and heroes” and we are going to need both. Martin Shaw’s reference to Camelot’s table stirred my heart, as I have made a study for the last several years of natural law, the principles of which have enhanced my life with their timeless wisdom. Camelot inspires the quest for truth, beauty and excellence. I look now at the manipulation of the masses by the few billionaires in power and I want to shake each and every person who is ushering in the dystopian ‘great reset” with their ignorance and blind trust.
For those with eyes to see and ears to hear, we are witnessing the onslaught of worldwide Communism as fundamental rights are being savaged in the name of the public good. The modern-day Carl Marx, Klaus Schwab, head of the World Economic Forum has been quoted saying, “You will own nothing and you will be happy.” Former HUD secretary and whistleblower, Catherine Austin Fitts, lays out the scheme brilliantly in this interview for those interested:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1-0XKYAZII&feature=youtu.be
What Catherine doesn’t cover is jurisdiction. In law, Public and Private can’t mix. The Public is government, which is corporate in nature – a fictional entity - and the Private is the living man or woman. A maxim of scripture says, “Unequal things ought not to be joined.” Yet government wants to rule over our bodies and our minds and exercise jurisdiction over every facet of our existence.
I know many people who are understandably concerned about not having a choice regarding the sanctity of their body, as governments around the world begin a campaign of what will be eventual forced vaccination. We perish for our lack of knowledge and for me, that knowledge is the very foundation of Camelot, the principles of Truth that ensure mankind’s ability to live freely and in peace. The ancient Celts, my people, cherished sovereignty and for good reason because to live as someone’s slave is to be less than human.
The subject of jurisdiction is too vast for this newsletter but it is an ancient one and goes back to Rome and beyond. I have directed numerous folks to the following website to read in its entirety: https://theamericanstatesassembly.net/ This site provides potential remedy for those desiring to leave the public and enter the private.
Those interested would also be well served to read this superb book, which took me a while to find online:
https://www.docdroid.net/l4buFBX/maxwell-jordan-craking-the-code-pdf
A maxim of law says, “As a thing is bound, so it is unbound.” It is we, the People, who must rise up and unbind the Gordian knot of manipulation to reclaim our sovereignty as our ancestors once cherished. We are truly in mythic times and fear dissolves in the face of reason, knowledge and understanding. If I could title this modern myth we are living I would call it “The Great Awakening Versus The Great Reset.” Indeed, good reader, you were born for these times!
