Tolkien Fandom Event Calendar
Recently I’ve received some asks about events/weeks in the Tolkien fandom, so I thought I’d compile a list of those that I know about. This is not exhaustive, and dates are subject to change by the organizers of these events!
Other blogs you can check out are @tolkieneventsblog and @tolkienfandomevents, though I’m not sure how active those are. The @silmarillionwritersguild Discord also has a channel dedicated to signal boosts for all sorts of Tolkien-related & general fandom happenings, which is another excellent way to keep up with fandom goings-on.
Want to run your own event? Here’s some of my tips!
If your event is not on here and you’d like it to be, let me know and I can add it :) Note: I will only add events that have announced dates!

Hugo Lowell at The Guardian:
The US supreme court has ruled that former presidents are entitled to some degree of immunity from criminal prosecution, dramatically reducing the likelihood that the federal criminal case against Donald Trump on charges he plotted to stop the transfer of power will proceed before the 2024 election. The court’s conservative majority – which Trump helped create – found 6-3 that presidents were protected from prosecution for official actions that extended to the “outer perimeter” of his office, but could face charges for unofficial conduct.
Trump is accused of overseeing a sprawling effort to subvert the 2020 election, including two counts of conspiring to obstruct the certification of the election results, conspiring to defraud the government, and conspiring to disenfranchise voters. Among the accusations: Trump spread false claims of election fraud, plotted to recruit fake slates of electors, pressured US justice department officials to open sham investigations into election fraud, and pressured his vice-president, Mike Pence, to obstruct Congress’s certification of Joe Biden’s win. To determine whether Trump’s alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results came under the protected auspices of his official duties, the supreme court remanded the case back to the presiding US district judge Tanya Chutkan, who will have to review the indictment line by line.
The court left the bulk of the analysis up to Chutkan. But Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, found that Trump’s threat to fire the then-acting attorney general for refusing to open investigations were protected, because the justice department is part of the executive branch. Roberts similarly found that Trump’s effort to pressure Pence was probably protected, as the president discussing responsibilities with the vice president was an instance of official conduct. “Trump is at least presumptively immune from prosecution for such conduct,” the opinion said. The final decision on the Pence question rested with Chutkan, wrote Roberts. The burden was on prosecutors to “rebut the presumption of immunity” and whether charging Trump would “pose any dangers of intrusion on the authority and functions of the Executive Branch”.
And on the matter of Trump’s remarks on January 6, Roberts wrote that they too were probably protected, since presidential addresses were an integral function of the office. But the opinion also allowed that in Trump’s case, it may be more appropriate to categorize his speech as that of a candidate for office. The ruling in Trump’s election subversion case was one of the last handed down by the supreme court this term. In waiting until the end, the conservative majority played into Trump’s benefit and legal strategy of trying to delay any trial as much as possible. The effect of the ruling to block a prompt trial, after the court moved quickly to keep Trump on the ballot in March, has already ignited fierce criticism by liberals and others who believe Trump’s case should be resolved before voters cast their ballots in the forthcoming election.
Trump’s legal strategy for all of his federal criminal cases – he also faces charges in Florida for illegally retaining classified documents – has been to delay them until after the election, in the hope that he will be re-elected and can appoint as attorney general a loyalist who would drop the charges. As the calendar now stands, a trial in Trump’s election subversion case cannot start until 20 September at the earliest, since Trump’s lawyers have 88 days left on the clock to prepare a defense after the case was automatically frozen when they launched the immunity appeal.
Sad day in America, as tyranny will be rewarded if Donald Trump wins again: The radical right-wing 6-3 majority on SCOTUS rules in Trump v. United States in an opinion by Chief Justice John Roberts that Trump has total immunity for acts done in an official capacity but no immunity for private acts.
The case has been remanded back to the DC Circuit Court to determine whether Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 elections count as "official duties."

List of Speak Now TV-related Easter eggs Taylor has dropped recently (just drop it already ffs)
NB: I'm only including hints that are obvious and don't require mental gymnastics. Your mileage might vary, of course.
27 February 2020: The Man music video is released, with the iconic graffitied wall showing Speak Now coming after Red.
26 October 2020: Taylor posts this TikTok.
I really think this is a really obvious hint, but nobody ever seems to talk about it... anyways notice how the colours of the garments she points at go purple > blue > green > black?
9 November 2021: Red (Taylor's Version) signed CDs go on sale. On her website, the price $20.10 is written in purple.
12 November 2021: "Red is about to be mine again, but it has always been ours."
13 December 2021: Taylor turns 32. Her AMA award for Speak Now can be seen in this photo she posts.
20 January 2021: Taylor is named 2022 Record Store Day Ambassador. The logo uses purple text and we lose our minds.
5 May 2022: Taylor Nation drops Speak Now (and 1989) merch for some reason.
Apparently, this was to show the Speak Now trademark was still being used, but I'm still putting it here.
21 October 2022: Anti-Hero music video released.
The koi fish guitar from the Speak Now World Tour makes an appearance.
Also, in the official YouTube video for the TSAntiHeroChallenge thing, she wears the purple dress from the Speak Now tour.
25 October 2022: Bejeweled music video released.
This day is the 12th anniversary of Speak Now.
Enchanted plays at the beginning.
Laura Dern says "Speak not".
Taylor presses the 3 button in the elevator, which is coloured purple.
The 13 button and the 13th indicator light (representing the album after Midnights) are also purple.
Taylor's hairpin says "SN".
Koi fish appears in the windows of the castle.
Long Live plays at the end.
1 November 2022: "I'm enchanted to announce my next tour..."
27 January 2023: Lavender Haze music video released.
The koi fish appears again.
29 January 2023: The official Taylor Swift 2024 calendar is shown on the publisher's website. It features photos from the Speak Now tour.
The cover picture is the same one used in the Eras Tour to represent the Speak Now era.
It will be available for purchase on July 20th.
17 March 2023: Taylor drops If This Was A Movie (TV), which was a deluxe track on Speak Now, and Safe & Sound and Eyes Open (TV), which were first performed live on the Speak Now tour.
9 April 2023: Photos from the set of a music video being filmed in Liverpool are leaked. The Speak Now tour flying balcony and piano can be seen.
13 April 2023: Taylor says that "recently one of my albums has been on my mind a lot" before performing Speak Now.
1 May 2023: Taylor posts this. The purple heart speaks for itself.
5 May 2023: WE WON. WE FINALLY WON.

President Trump Special Counsel “Election Interference Case” in DC Suspended Indefinitely
Tumblr media
February 2, 2024
In the ridiculous federal election interference case in D.C., President Trump’s attorneys argued to the DC Circuit appellate court that President Trump holds inherent constitutional immunity. In essence, because President Trump was acquitted by the Senate of claims he incited or instigated the January 6, 2021, events, lawyers arguing under the constitution that only impeached and removed presidents can be criminally prosecuted.
From the Comments:
Tumblr media
The initial 3-judge panel of the court has taken up the appeal, and all subsequent lower court activity was suspended until the constitutional issue is resolved. Again, if President Trump does not have immunity, then all preceding and future presidents can be criminally prosecuted for any/all events and decisions while holding office. This is a core issue, and the DC Circuit Court of Appeals has to tread very carefully with these ramifications at the forefront.
The decision of the 3-judge panel could also be followed by a full en-banc review by all judges in the circuit. Then, depending on their decision, it could -likely will- go even higher to the U.S. Supreme Court. All of this takes time, and the initial 3-judge appeals court have not provided any hints on their timeline.
Apparently, as a consequence, the entire trial of the case has been removed from the lower DC court docket. The removal took place within the last few days, and the Washington Post noticed the removal. This removal means the timing of the case, if at all, is completely unknown now.
Tumblr media
WASHINGTON – Former president Donald Trump’s March 4 trial date on charges of plotting to overturn the results of the 2020 election has been dropped from the public calendar of the federal court in Washington, a sign of what has long been anticipated — that his claim of presidential immunity from criminal prosecution would delay his trial while it remains on appeal.
The change did not appear on the official criminal case docket before U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, who has made clear since Trump filed his appeal on Dec. 7 that all trial deadlines would be suspended while he challenges the case. On appeal, Trump is arguing that the government does not have authority under the Constitution to bring charges against him for actions he took while president after the 2020 election through the Jan. 6, 2021. In addition to the challenges within these core issues, the Lawfare approach by Jack Smith, Mary McCord and Andrew Weissmann, faces multiple additional hurdles.  These are all issues that surface when Lawfare, the application of twisted legal theory intended to manipulate public opinion, runs into the reality of ever-increasing scrutiny from courts.
Combine these fraudulent legal theories with the reality that President Trump’s status is almost certainly “presumptive presidential nominee” in the eyes of the entire judicial branch, and things change.  The pretending justification for the Lawfare claims now hit the non-pretending and visible reality of political intent.
The judicial scrutiny gets even more focused, and the explanations demanded as justifications to target President Trump increase.  As the calendar of the November election gets closer Jack, Mary and Andrew will have to rely on ideologically aligned black robes to maintain their Lawfare pretense.  Some of the robes will not be comfortable with the demands of Jack, Mary and Andrew.
Some of the robes may not pretend, and that poses a problem for Jack, Mary and Andrew.

on recommendation from @judge-tenderly on the randomizer:
Dimension 20 by Calendar Day:
all D20 episodes in chronological order of the day they were released. Note: this list includes the episodes of fantasy high junior year that have yet to be released, for the sake of pattern matching, though they are not in the randomizer yet. this inflates the count for the Q1 months marginally, though it will be corrected by the time the season ends.
my fun observations:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the only days with multiple episodes are: january 9th, june 24th, september 21st, september 26th, and october 24th,
october, january, february, may, and september have the most episodes; this generally reflects sidequest overlap with main cast seasons, while the other months lean one way or the other.
it also shows where the main cast seasons tend to be: fantasy high began in september and ended in january, the unsleeping city began in july and ended in october, fantasy high sophomore year began in october and ended in april, a crown of candy began in may and ended in august, the unsleeping city chapter ii began in november and ended in march, a starstruck odyssey began in january and ended in may, neverafter began in november and ended in april, and fantasy high junior began in january and will end in may.
in other words, there's intrepid heroes season throughout the year, but most overlap between them happens in Q1 and Q4, with less overlap in Q2 and Q3.
this reflects the more recent patterns of Q4-Q1 releases, with seasons ending in Q2, when the sidequests start for the year. the earlier the season ends, the more sidequests there are for that year.
technically this pattern has only been in place since 2021--the year began with the remainder of the unsleeping city chapter ii, and had four sidequests. 2022 began with a starstruck odyssey, had 2 sidequests, and ended with neverafter. 2023 began with neverafter, and had four sidequests. now, in 2024, we're starting with fantasy high junior year, which will end two weeks later than starstruck.
fantasy high often ends up grouped together because of how freshman and sophomore year were released.
there's a couple instances in Q3-Q4 where there are sequences of 4 or more episodes with Aabria, either as a gm or player
2020 had three intrepid heroes seasons, which caused the high number from that year. after, the sidequests gave more of a buffer between seasons.
there's more, but it's all in the sheet. happy watching!

I just wanted to say thank you for running this event for the past few years. It was what got me into this fandom and once I started writing one of my favourite events to participate in.
Thank you so much <3333
Tumblr media
Thank you for your kind words 🥺
And to think this event was what got you into Maribat! 🥺 Very honored to know that this event got you to write for the fandom QuQ
When I first thought of wanting to start this event, I think I was just getting into Maribat myself, having a few fics out on A03 and seeing new tropes emerge in the fandom. And out of the tropes, I started to love the bio!dad trope, becoming a sucker for the damn trope and noticed there wasn't enough!
And I thought, oh, maybe I should write for it! And I did! But then I thought, should I start an event for it?
At this time, Maribat March, Angst April (or I think that was what it was called) and Daminette December were the major events and when I thought about those events... I became skeptical of myself.
Because I didn't have a large following like those blogs...I wasn't well known as other writers/artists in the fandom..
I remember asking the Maribat Insanity server if I should even do an event because...did anyone else like the trope?? After all, there were so little works...
And my god...the amount of support I got and the amount of people who encouraged me to give it a try...
So I gave it a shot.
I made an interest form May 2020 and by June 2020, the first calendar of the event was post and on September 2020, the event launched.
And so many people participated, writing fics on Tumblr, linking their works from A03, making art...
In 2021, people still participated and even extended the trope from Bruce being Mari's bio dad to other characters like Luka and Kagami.
In 2022 and 2023, not many people participated but I still hosted it because people were excited to create works for the fandom.
And I think...I think that is why I still hosted the event for the past four years...
The Maribat community was the first crossover community I dared to join after a friend introduced me to it and honestly was one of the most welcoming, most creative communities I've been a part of and a community I will always hold dearly to my heart.
They inspired me to write, to grow as a writer, as a person and knowing this event introduced you to this community and helped you start your journey as a fellow writer... it really means a lot and once again shows how the community just continues to inspire...
So again...thank you, from the bottom of my heart <3 and I'm happy you enjoyed writing for this event <3
Thank you.

Okay Spade….entertain my clownery for a moment. Yesterday an anon on @chickawah23 brought up the lyrics from 🎶So it goes 🎶
“But honestly, baby, who’s counting?/ Who is counting?( One, two, three) … and all the pieces fall right into place”
Because of flag anons latest message which capitalized the word March and the calendar with the post-it note, I assumed we might see some on action on 3/21 instead of what the original anon thought ( 1/23). But after being reminded of Spade anon’s Ideas of March message, which mentions the number ONE and TWO, I’m even more convinced that something is coming in March, particularly 3/21.
Additionally, I’m a huge Kurt Vonnegut fan. The phrase “so it goes” is repeated multiple times through out the book Slaughterhouse five…the book was published March 31, 1969. Which, in my delusion, only further supports the theory that something big might be happening in March.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
The New Year midnight is nearly upon us.
As we March into the sunset, 2022 is not the only thing that will expire at midnight.
A fresh page…a new chapter.
Au revoir, à bientôt en tournée.

Have you decided on a birthday for your character? Vividatt's birthday is the 20th of the season Zephyr. He met Taimi the day after his birthday. He fought Ryland with Kas and Braham in Icebrood Saga Episode Champions: Power: Jormag's World, where the Owl's spirit sacrificed herself for the others, and this happened the day before his birthday. He was about to be 28.
Taimi is said to have been born in late spring or early summer. I just wish they'd give them actual birthdays.

Dracula Daily Responses
 June 17
It has been… weeks since I last heard from my dear friend Jonathan. My heart was pounding from my chest with excitement, my hands trembling as I gripped the envelope and tore it open. He is alive! But trapped, still, within his chambers. Still he looks to those in service of the Count for aid, and unsurprisingly finds none.
June 18
The radio bursts alive with a short blast of static, and again I hear the voice of Dr. Seward. He speaks quickly, and I can only assume it must be of his patient Renfield once more. It seems to be the only subject which captures the doctor’s attention, since Miss Lucy’s refusal of his proposal. The man is apparently keeping spiders as pets now. What a peculiar man. Though I do find such creatures helpful in keeping the house free of other pests, I would hardly make the effort to attract them myself as they come and go as they please. My cats find them entertaining.

May 24th:
Another letter mislaid upon my door, from Miss Lucy to my dear Mina. I shouldn’t read it, but I cannot help myself. I hope for some news of my dear friend Jonathan buried within, but I am doubtful. Perhaps the gossip within will lighten my spirit for a moment or two.
Miss Lucy has had quite an eventful time since her last letter! Three proposals! A dream for many girls her age. The doctor who she had thought might be a good match for Mina, had our dear Jonathan not been already in her heart, was first to propose. Ah, but Lucy was already firmly set on another. Ah yes, Mr. Holmwood, who she spoke of before. I do recall this now. Surely he must be one of the three proposals this day?
Ah it seems Mr. Holmwood was trying to find time to make his proposal but just couldn’t seem to get Miss Lucy to himself before the other two, even with her aid. Mr. Morris therefore was the second of the day. And this man too, realizing Miss Lucy’s heart belonged to another, pledged to be a great friend to her. What a blessing to her to have found such good and honest men in her life. Oh Miss Lucy, I do agree, they should let a girl marry as many men as would agree to marry her together and be happy.
Ah, and then Miss Lucy, you rob us of the details of Mr. Holmwood’s proposal! But such happiness is a blessing.
I shall reseal this quickly and send it on its way to dear Mina so she can share in her closest friend’s joyous news. Hopefully it will distract her too for a moment from our worries.

I went into the office today to clean out my desk (the office is moving, I’m still remote) and my area had been gutted by IT. My phone doesn’t even have a receiver. But my @risingoflights calendar was still there, left on March 2020.

My #1 post of 2022
I have received several days' entries of my dear friend Jonathan’s journal, in his most familiar shorthand. He has arrived in foreign lands, and has written in lush detail of his travels so far, both of the land itself and the peoples therein. I have found his descriptions of the food there most tantalizing, and amusing that he had so much trouble with it and yet, he makes note to remember to fetch the recipes to bring home to his beloved Mina still. (Ah Mina, I should write to her soon. It has been far too long!) The castle that was his destination is most interesting, and I cannot wait to hear more about his stay, and the peculiar master of it. I shan't write back to him at this time, as he will surely be on his way back before any such letter would reach him.

Bunch'a World Facts
So because I'm an idiot and only just now realized that you guys probably think me setting Anthony's birthday as "13/02" was a mistake or that it meant February 13th... it doesn't. Plus, the fact that I said the date of Adolescence's death was "November 1st, 3475". Lemme do a lil' bit of a dive. You can ignore this if you want but it does give a lot of context. The facts are under the cut because this is a long post
1) The year is indeed, 3475. This is because this is faaaar in the future. Things have barely advanced in technology. There's still no flying cars, because the real humans wiped themselves out over the span of 2020 - 3049. There's only this huge piece of land + A small amount of islands left. The rest is underwater and everyone speculates, making a whole spectacle of it. There are a lot of species of humanoids now, but namely what can be called "Neo-Humans" 2) There are very few countries left because the two main gods tried to remake the world with what land was left. (I imagine the conversation went something like; "Hey hon... what the FUCK IS THIS?" "What?" "WHY IS RUSSIA NEAR THE BOTTOM?" "Is... I-Isn't Russia always near the bottom...?" "LIFE, BABY, RUSSIA WAS THE BIGGEST, ALMOST TOPMOST COUNTRY-") I'll have a map made soon. 3) Every species ages weirdly as hell now. Neo-Humans age regularly... until they reach age 20. Every five years after age 20, is an actual physical year older. Take Brian. He's physically 32. In a calendarly sense or whatever the hell... he's 80 years old. So Tyler, the oldest, would be 95 years old, even though physically he's 35. So on and so forth. 4) The calendar is a 13 month calendar, dubbed the SAOL calendar. Saol is the Irish word for "Sun". Each month is 28 days/4 weeks. The months in order are January, February, March, April, May, June, SOL (the new month), July, August, September, October, November, December. It takes a slight bit to get used to seeing, but that's how this goes. 5) Holidays have moved, been changed, or been added. In order, we have; - Aquarius season, January 15th - February 14th. The festival lasts three days at the start of the season, January 15th - 17th - Valentine's Day, February 14th - Pisces season, February 15th - March 14th. Festival dates being February 15th - 17th - Aries season, March 15th - April 14th. Festival dates being March 15th - 17th - Saints Day, formerly Saint Patrick's Day, which is to commemorate any of the gods you'd like, March 17th - Easter, which lasts for two days, April 1st - 2nd - Taurus season, April 15th - May 14th. Festival dates being April 15th - 17th - Mother's Day, May 12th - Gemini season, May 15th - June 14th. Festival dates being May 15th - 17th - The entirety of June is Pride Month - Father's Day, June 12th - Cancer season, which starts on June 15th, is paused for the whole "Sun Month" (Sol), and resumes from July 1st - July 14th. Festival dates being June 15th - 17th - The Sun Festival, which is two weeks to commemorate the Sun Goddess and the Solar Eclipse God, Sol 8th - 21st - Leo season, July 15th - August 14th. Festival dates being July 15th - 17th - Virgo season, August 15th - September 14th. Festival dates being August 15th - 17th - Libra season, September 15th - October 14th. Festival dates being September 15th - 17th - Scorpio season, October 15th - November 14th. Festival dates being October 15th - 17th - Halloween, October 28th - Sagittarius season, November 15th - December 14th. Festival dates being November 15th - 17th - Thanksgiving, November 19th - The Moon Festival, which is two weeks to commemorate the Moon Goddess (Wife of the Sun Goddess) and the Lunar Eclipse God (Twin brother to the Solar Eclipse God), December 8th - 21st - Capricorn season, December 15th - January 14th. Festival dates being December 15th - 17th - Christmas Eve, December 24th - Christmas Day, December 25th - New Year's Passover, December 28th - January 1st To those of you who genuinely read this far, I appreciate you all so, so much

FAQs About The California Employee Retention Credit
California employers are encouraged to take advantage of the California Employee Retention Credit before it expires. But what is this tax credit? Who qualifies? Is ERC taxable in California? In this article, Dominion Enterprise Services’ CPA Skyler Kressin breaks down the ERC and how it can benefit your business.
Tumblr media
Like many business owners, California employers were subjected to extreme challenges during 2020 and 2021 and even extending into 2022. Business operations often were fully or partially suspended due to state or local health orders, revenue swings occurred unexpectedly, labor shortages abounded, and the unknowns related to global economic conditions created a difficult environment for businesses of all stripes due to COVID-19.
In the midst of these difficult times, various federal programs were created to mitigate these challenges, including the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan Act. Each of these had provisions for relief, such as advance payment programs or forgivable business loans such as the Payment Protection Program (PPP loan).
While many businesses took advantage of these relief provisions, the sheer volume of legislation signed into law in the last several years has resulted in some of the key relief provisions for employers to be overlooked in the effort to keep the lights on and business flowing.
One such relief provision that consistently has been overlooked was created specifically for employers who continued to pay wages and federal employment taxes throughout the official “pandemic period” (March 12, 2020, through the third quarter of 2021) in the form of an employer tax credit, officially called the Employee Retention Credit (ERC).
The good news is, for California employers specifically, this federal tax credit may be much easier to obtain than for those who own and operate businesses in other states, due to how eligibility works.
High-level Features of the ERC for California Employers:
• The credit is up to $26,000 per employee for a fully eligible employer.
• The credit is a federal refundable tax credit, meaning you can claim a refund directly in the form of a check from the IRS, and the ERC is NOT a loan or grant through a bank like the PPP.
• That said, the other relief programs, (such as the PPP) do interact with the ERC but importantly, do NOT make you ineligible for the ERC as was previously widely believed – even those who received both rounds of PPP funding are still potentially eligible for the ERC.
• The claim is made through federal payroll tax filings and entails tax calculations customarily performed by tax professionals.
• The eligible filing period for the ERC begins to expire in April 2023 as the statute of limitations for refunds begins to sunset.
Who is Eligible for the ERC?
Eligibility for the ERC is determined on a calendar quarter basis (corresponding to each federal filing period) and can be achieved in one of two ways:
1. Gross Receipts Test
Employers must show a specified percentage decline in gross receipts, quarter-over-quarter when comparing a given quarter in 2019 to the same quarter in 2020 or 2021. For example, the quarter ending December 31, 2019, compared to the quarter ending December 31, 2020, must show a specific percentage decline. Specifically, 2020 needs to show a decline of 50% in at least one quarter, and 2021 needs to show a decline of 20% in at least one quarter – BOTH compared to the equivalent quarters in 2019.
2. Trade or Business Operations Disruption Test
This test is where there may be advantages for the California Employee Retention Credit as opposed to the relative eligibility in other states. Eligibility under this test all hinges on whether direct state or local government orders restricted business operations for employers during the pandemic period. California was one of the more restrictive jurisdictions as compared to other U.S. states and localities, so ERC eligibility is more likely to be achieved for California employers than in other jurisdictions.
As with all federal legislation and tax law, there are nuances and fine print to the above eligibility tests that go beyond the scope of this article and edge cases that require parsing through grey areas. This is where working with a qualified and licensed tax professional who specializes in tax credits comes into play. Many who are otherwise eligible for the ERC may be leaving money on the table, or otherwise working off an incomplete assessment of the full scope of their eligibility.
Is ERC Taxable in California?
Another benefit of the ERC is that, in general, it is not taxable on your California income tax return, as per FTB Publication 1001. That said, given it is a federal credit, it does directly impact your federal income tax filing and may result in the need to modify your federal income tax filing.
Dominion Can Help
Dominion Enterprise Services, PLLC is a full-service licensed CPA firm, with broad experience in helping California employers with various tax credits and consulting and has broad familiarity with the Employee Retention Credit specifically for the state and local legislative and regulatory environment in California during the pandemic period.
Our model is based on a transparent assessment of the facts and circumstances of each business we work with and working with existing tax preparers and payroll providers in ensuring the maximum claim for the ERC in California is pursued under the law.
Given the unique regulatory landscape of California, don’t miss out on this opportunity to claim the California Employee Retention Tax Credit before the eligible filing period ends in April 2023. Dries Van Noten’s most memorable looks, as the Belgian fashion designer steps down

Many famous people, such as Florence Pugh, Cate Blanchett, and Margot Robbie, have worn Dries Van Noten's designs. After 38 years, Belgian designer Dries Van Noten is stepping down as creative director of his namesake fashion brand. "In the early '80s, as a young guy in Antwerp, my dream was to have a voice in fashion. Van Noten fulfilled his dream with the help of many supportive people. He now wants to focus on other things. His studio team will create the women's collection. They have been working closely together for years. I have complete confidence that they will do a great job." This doesn't mark the end of the Dries Van Noten fashion brand The House that Van Noten treasures so much will soon announce a new creative director, and he has stated that he will continue to stay involved in it. After opening his flagship store in Antwerp in 1989, he became a member of 'The Antwerp Six,' a group of Belgian creatives revolutionizing the fashion industry. The group included Walter Van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, and Marina Yee. Five years later, he debuted his first collection. In 1991, he debuted at Paris Fashion Week with a menswear collection. Two years later, he launched womenswear and became a regular on the schedule. Fashion firm Puig acquired a majority share in the brand in 2018. He blends the old with the new. He plays around with silhouette. This is mainly seen in the ballooning, oversized shapes of coats and sleeves. The design was showcased at his recent Paris Fashion Week show in February. Florals are a recurring theme in his clothes, and Van Noten says the flowers often inspire him in his garden. While Van Noten's work isn't a red carpet mainstay like some of the other major brands on the Paris Fashion Week calendar, celebrities make an impact when they choose to wear his designs. Florence Pugh was nominated for a BAFTA for her role as Amy March in Little Women back in 2020, and she brought a welcome splash of color to the red carpet in her pink and black Van Noten creation. A fuchsia dress-meets-cape was worn over a black mini dress, with the voluminous sleeves and bow detailing giving a subtle nod to Amy March's fashion. Pink and black were central to Van Noten's work in 2020, as Margot Robbie also wore that color combination to the London premiere of Birds Of Prey the same year. She paired her full black skirt with a feathered bralette, tapping into the trend for underwear as outerwear, and donned hot pink opera gloves. Cate Blanchett chose to wear Dries Van Noten to the Oscars in 2008 when she was pregnant with her third child, Ignatius. The midnight blue gown had an empire line for her bump and gold accents. Additionally, the sequinned flowers on the skirt were particularly eye-catching. Kirsten Dunst wore a floral Van Noten gown to the Baby2Baby Gala in Nov 2023. Noomi Rapace wore a navy and white floral print dress with statement red gloves at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2022. The dress, created by Van Noten, featured dramatic oversized sleeves. ENTRY 127
March 16th, 2020
Seems like it happened so fast. I don't remember hearing anything about COVID-19 in January or February. Not that there wasn't talks about it, but I wasn't paying attention to the news. In January, I was celebrating my son's birthday for the entire month as I always do. In February, I was pounding the pavement looking for a new job. Then, March hits.
Suddenly, there are non-stop conversations and news reports on a deadly, air-born virus that invades the lungs, but seemingly that's all we knew. Maybe the lack of information was what possibly fueled the whole toilet paper thing...? To this day, I still don't get it. A virus that invades the lungs, so let's all battle it out for toilet paper. Who knows.
I think when it comes down to it, we were all confused and scared. How do we stop all of the death? How do we help healthcare workers? How do we avoid getting it and spreading it? Then, there was the other end of the spectrum. Away from all the fear and confusion was anger and disbelief from all the politicians making a fucking virus political. I would've preferred to only hear from scientists and doctors.
People were fighting with each other, buying up every bit of supplies at the stores, and places were temporarily closing down. I admit, I was taking my time looking for work in February because I had a little nest egg to live on and I was enjoying the rest and the extra time with my son. Had I known a virus was coming and was gonna close everything down causing us to eat through our savings, I would've looked way more diligently.
Fast forward, my family and I are sheltered in place. I remember sitting on the porch on that first day, randomly listening to the instrumental music from the show Carnivale, trying to process what was happening and trying to figure out what all of this meant.
At this point, I am the only one leaving the house for supplies, wearing masks out of bandanas and rubber bands while waiting for the ones I ordered on Amazon to get delivered. lol Must've looked fashionable! 😆
I don't know what else to say from here other than there's been a lot of adapting to life with both the pre- and post-pandemic timelines. It was an interesting process though because in being sheltered in place, it caused me to take a good long look at myself and at my life. I began to realize a lot which helped with self-care and inner work to heal and make improvements.
That's all I can really say at the moment. I'm sure there's more conversation to be had about the entire experience but that's pretty much the jist of it. Right now, I'm at work watching business gradually dwindle, making it more clear why the owner may close this place down. My thoughts are consumed with hopelessness and sadness because I really love this place and worked hard to help clean it up and save it. Breaks my heart. It really does.
I still wanted to blog about 2020 though. I marked it on my calendar so I'd remember it. I don't really know why but it's a simple request of my past self that I'm willing to honor. Perhaps to remind me to make more time for healing and make every day count. I'll conclude with the quote I kept up on my wall during the pandemic.
"If during this down time you accomplish nothing, then you never lacked time, only self-discipline."
More thoughts later.
