Thinking about having a one sided rivalry with Mark but only YOU hate him and he doesn’t know jack shit. You just develop this malice towards him that keeps building and building for no damn reason, then it bursts when he turns out to be a good guy. And fuck, maybe you’re falling for him?

He’s all awkward smiles and clammy palms when you go to shake it, he’s confident but a geek at heart so he doesn’t know what to even do with you or himself. The forced proximity is soul crushingly painful but you grit through it, trying to be nice because even though he is your “rival” you have manners.

Then it escalates when you’re left alone with him, and he brings up the only topic he knows to talk about which is that damn Seance dog. Of course you knew about it. Hell, you were a big fan of it! But then people started to spread the word and popularize it, being all stuck up and ungrateful to the comic artists whenever an issue was yet to be released.

Thats why you hated him, thats why you competed with him. Because you were a gatekeeper.

But like a christmas miracle, he just keeps on giving and surprising you. Many points are given that you agree with, and suddenly you’re dumping all this information on him and he looks like a jolly kid opening their presents on christmas morning.

“Exactly! The people just don’t get it like you and I do,” Mark feels a bit lighter now that the tension between the two of you has snapped. Although he wasn’t even sure why there was one in the first place.

“Right? I don’t even know why I hated you.” He laughs along with you, sighing in content. Before he pauses and relays your words back in his head.

“Wait, you hate me?”
