poppy: poppy doesn't have anything especially distinct except her tooth gap i'd say! she does have a tiny mole above her mouth and under her eye tho

neo: he is Covered in tattoos and piercings but my favourite is the one on his neck that says not dead 😭 it's just very fitting for his life story i love it

roxanne: i don't think roxanne has anything woops she's beautiful tho <3

vegas: he has no tattoos right now but i have some really stupid ones planned for him so be on the lookout for that 😭 he has piercings too but like all of my sims have piercings </3 he has cute freckles on his face! and a massive scar across his nose how could i forget FJDGH

you can't say this to me when my favorites change every day....., let's do Splatoon 1-era soda and perdita

1.) Do they play inksports? If so, what is their favorite game mode? Least favorite?

soda plays regularly with rome, usually rounded out by andy and lyn, two of rome's friends who met by virtue of their little siblings being squidforce models. (in that respect, soda is the odd one out by being the younger sibling herself.) she's... kind of awful at anything that isn't vanilla turf war—her skills so conveniently lend themselves to fighting against rote octarian strategies, not whatever s-rankers have going on—and isn't professionally part of the team. her least favorite is tower control, it's brutal and frustrating.

perry is an octarian weapons-engineer, too old and (paradoxically) too peaceable for that. she has no dislike of inklings at large but certainly finds it the least appealing part of their culture.

2.) Are they more competitive or casual?

soda is a competitive casual, i'll put it like that. she is both an avid student of many professional tactics—has a comprehensive knowledge of the meta, if you will—and really nothing to sneeze at, but for all her theory she's just not good at the game. she's played in a few tournaments, and of course she strives to become s+ rank like so many others, but that goal will quickly wear out because it just doesn't resonate with her. turf war was never going to be something she dedicated her life to.

3.) Do they work Salmon Run shifts?

i see i am forced to answer for Splatoon 2-era anyway. in short, marlo fucking hates salmon run. she's had enough risking her life for power eggs at the behest of a sketchy boss. i don't think that'd change for a younger marlo, either—the industry hit big at the lowest point of her life thus far, and even if it hadn't, she'd see no glory in it. similarly, she knows nothing about the salmonids beyond where their trade intersects octarian culture; she does find grizz fascinating but have very little hope of learning anything about him and aren't willing to stick her neck out quite that far.

nor does perry's station have much to do with it; she occasionally handles power eggs in her caretaking of the octoweapons but the trade is left to another division.

4.) What is their favourite weapon? And their main weapon (if it is different from their favorite)?

perry underwent mandatory training in the octoshot like every octoling (she is technically military, if auxiliary, but virtually every octarian citizen gets some combat training), but is loathe to use it. she's more likely to sic all the octoweapons on you and/or hotwire the octobot king for her own purposes.

soda has the uncanniest fascination with inkbrushes to this day and i have no idea why. they don't suit her play style, she can't use them to save her life, every last one of her love interests have used brushes for some reason, i don't know what the common denominator must be but apparently soda is into it. she actually favors shooters with a high fire-rate and good maneuverability—mostly o-matics and aerosprays, in this era the neo splash and rg in particular.

Goodreads Synopsis

In the city of Ark, speech is constrained to five hundred sanctioned words. Speak outside the approved lexicon and face banishment. The exceptions are the Wordsmith and his apprentice Letta, the keepers and archivists of all language in their post-apocalyptic, neo-medieval world. On the death of her master, Letta is suddenly promoted to Wordsmith, charged with collecting and saving words. But when she uncovers a sinister plan to suppress language and rob Ark’s citizens of their power of speech, she realizes that it’s up to her to save not only words, but culture itself.

This is a very typical dystopian novel with a protagonist / the "chosen one" some might say who saves the day. Then you have the handsome, young male who charms her. Surprisingly I favoured Marlo's character and how he was portrayed. Letta, the wordsmith, is a very capable young girl who takes matters into her own hands instead of waiting for others to step in. The story was written quite beautifully and despite how long and boring it seemed at some parts, I was moved by the situation the people in Ark had been put in. They were conditioned so deeply that they could not see what was happening around them. This is a very good representation of how governments keep control of their people. What drew me to this book was that in this dystopian world, language has a limit, there are barriers and people are expected to play by the rules. I was very intrigued on how the people of Ark would be conversing with a given list of words. I actually think the writer displayed that very well. Letta's job seems pretty cool though the idea of having restrains on language makes me shudder. Language is as important as food and water. It's what keeps us human and allows us to be sociable and understanding. Without it, I'd imagine the human race to be much more wild. Something I found a bit confusing and unrealistic was how Marlo and Finn always seemed to be around when Letta needed them. But all in all, The List has a lot of action, incredibly emotional moments, a predictable plot that somehow works, and a very ambiguous ending. This ARC was received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
