More WanPre thoughts:

1) You know it shouldn’t SURPRISE me that Komugi came into the show already Little Mermaiding it, but huh.

2) Iroha: I like her! Good job establishing her as a character while simultaneously managing to ground her dog as our actual POV. That is genuinely impressive.

3) Our supporting cast setup! Good. We get enough of Satoru, Mayu, and Daifuku and Yuki to get a sense of character dynamics, which is impressive given Daifuku doesn’t really move. I like them all.

4) General note but the OP and fight scene both do a good job of selling human!Komugi’s body language and behavior in a very dog-like way. It shouldn’t surprise me that they decided to do a season where half the cast is pets in part because they felt confident they could do that, but: Nonetheless, I am impressed.

5) Yeah so it’s been a minute since we’ve had a non-duo season start out with a duo ending, right? Like… literally a decade, since the last example was Happiness Charge? So that suggests something about when Nyammy and Lillian are coming in, even relative to the slower rollout we got with Wing and Butterfly. (For that matter, Yumyum got into play fairly late for a trio season, but DePa had such a strong emphasis on Kome-kome and the supporting cast that I kinda get why… and also she still debuted as Yumyum an episode before Tsubasa was properly introduced, much less Butterfly.) Interesting.

6) Given we’ve had the Pretty Holic-associated Cure for a few seasons now, it’s nice to see that Mayu’s primary interest seems to be not just makeup or fashion but sewing specifically this time around. (Granted, Mashiro was basically the Pretty Holic-associated Cure last season and her interest turned into illustration, but: I like characters who are into sewing, says the fiber artist who loves Shiki Misaki.)

7) Seriously Komugi becoming Cure Wonderful to protect Iroha, immediately after the Garugaru runs off going into Play Mode, and then only AFTER cornering it realizing “oh hey he’s not having fun. :( Here have a hug, you’ll feel better” is precious.

8) Yeah Iroha has an appropriate reaction to the sheer volume of WTF going on in that last few minutes, that’s fair.

9) Gotta say cutting to the Magical Garden World where all the magical animals are lying defeated was hilarious when Healin’ Good did it and those animals were clearly armored and ready for battle, and it’s hilarious here.

Here comes the (previously announced) Bandori Character Tournament!

How the bracket was decided:

Following the eurovision semifinals as an example, I put characters in 5 categories, depending their role in the band (mainly to avoid something like a yukiran showoff right in the first round)

I used a random chooser site to decide on the matchups following this method:

firstly, I chose a random number between 1 and 5

depending on that number, I chose a random character from the category numbered with that number

repeated first part, but excluded the category the first character was from

repeated second part

repeated all the previous steps until only 3 characters were left

Once only 3 characters were left, I considered putting them in 1 match together, but then decided it would be more elegant to randomly assign them to one of the already generated matches, following this process:

choose either 1 or 2 to decide which side of the bracket to put them in

then a number between 1 and 8 (for the left side) or 9 and 16 (for the right side)

Right off the bat, I’m telling you guys Afterglow always blaze together. Moca and Tomoe frequently blaze together, usually by the window of Moca’s room when her parents aren’t home. Tomoe rolls the blunts and Ran is overly nervous about getting caught. Himari surprisingly is not; she always looks forward to a little blaze because god knows she needs it. Tsugumi is usually the one who takes one puff and is a giggling mess; everyone cuts her off for the rest of the night. Ran cuts herself off though, being the dedicated peacemaker in the event they do have to save face.

Nanami is actually prescribed CBD medically. She only takes the tablets at home, but every now and then you see her pop a singular gummy that isn't found in local convenience stores.

Breaching on this, the night before one of Morfonica’s biggest concerts Mashiro went dead silent the entire night out of anxiety. Nanami had no clue what to do, so she just offered her her pen. Mashiro was cured! Although she does have a tendency to use more profane language when high.

Masuki periodically smokes blunts with her gramps. “Don’t tell your father,” gramps says. Masuki would never dare, but man are those some of the best bonding times she’s had with her grandfather.

I feel like Rei, Rui, Hina, and Kokoro would refuse all offers to get high. They just like being sober; it doesn’t do anything for Hina so she just doesn’t bother.

Ako once found a bowl in Tomoe’s room. Tomoe paid her 50 bucks to keep quiet. Ako used those 50 on video games. Tomoe lived happily ever after!

Misaki and Arisa were hanging out in the night of summer with some mushrooms, talking about life. What they weren’t expecting was for Hagumi, Tae, and Rimi to join them. Both of them were very reluctant to share their precious mushrooms, but out of the kindness of their hearts, they did. Let’s just say Hagumi and Tae were having the most in depth conversation about something that made no sense whatsoever  while Rimi was resting her head on Arisa’s lap mumbling about absolutely nothing. Arisa and Rimi got a lot closer after that night!

I'm sitting here feeling insane. These two people agreed on possibly the worst examples of autistic characters in BanG Dream! (<- sorry Rimi I need to exaggerate for the purpose of making a point). Like I get that Tomori is a special brand of autism but BanG Dream! is so incredibly neurodivergent it's not even funny. What did Mashiro do to you. Nanami? Morfonica in general? You think Misaki is the one autistic member of Hello, Happy World? Do you think Yukina is misunderstood for shits and giggles too? Quick do you think Kasumi is neurotypical

(all of this is /lh although it does confuse me. At least we can agree Tomori is when autism but like. Did yous watch the Morfonica OVA it was basically all about being autistic. Fine I'll accept that not everyone "reads between the lines" and some people just have headcanons for shits and giggles but I will question my entire existence over it)
