Masque Milano Lost Alice
Nose: Mackenzie Reilly
notes: ambrette, black pepper, bergamot, clary sage; carrot, orris, black tea, rose; milk, sandalwood, broom
Lost Alice opens with a waxy, makeup-y, slightly carrotty iris with some delicate florals around the edges.
then there’s a sharp, icy herbal effect, lasting a few minutes and then transitioning to a pleasantly dry Earl Grey tea place.
and finally, gradually, there’s a further transition to a soft milky-woody zone; not sweet, just mild.
The whole arc is over in an hour, and thereafter we remain in pale-beige milky-wood land, with the barest suggestion of iris and bergamot tea.
Lost Alice is a very sheer, faint, polite “beige scent” with an emphasis on woods. I think it’s better than Tam Dao, for instance (a wan, pale synthetic “sandalwood” that remains inexplicably popular), and a far more tasteful take on milky Earl Grey tea than the gooey sugar-fest that was Remember Me. I tend to want more perfume in my perfume, but Lost Alice is definitely nice.

Masque Milano Kintsugi: this thing is for thinking
People don’t like this.
Reviews complain that it’s too old and fusty, or too modern and artificial; that its tenure is too brief and also that it goes on forever. I can imagine this scent getting accidentally associated with a painful event and becoming intolerable, intolerable; it is a very sponge for memory.
It’s not friendly, not easily construed. It doesn’t enable you to smell like pastry,  green tea, or an ocean wave. It is not wholesome, like a flower field or a string of laundry drying in the sun. At certain angles, however, you might detect… a room? A room, a chair, a window that looks out onto night: a darkness pierced in places by faint sodium lights, far from us, and wreathed in violet cloud; a darkness that threatens rain.
There is more than a touch of smoke in this old-school chypre. Sweet at turns, with a hint of fruitiness that comes not just from the bergamot but also from the rose: almost a nectarine, though there’s no sign of one on the notes list. This sweetness comes and goes, trading places with art supplies, modeling clay, and a faintly resinous quality supplied by benzoin and possibly, possibly, the raspberry leaf. The smell of paper: readers, you know what I mean. It combines with a cold, rainy magnolia in a way that's very hard to parse, hard to pin down. An intoxicating boozy vanilla appears from time to time but never takes this fragrance into modern gourmand territory. Not at all. Not ever. This acerbic vanilla is the closest that Kintsugi gets to the gold implied in its name: a gold for seaming, a potter's gold.
This fragrance does not soar, although my heart leapt when I first smelled it. It does not resolve its harmonies. It's not involved with heaven; its sky is a lowering one, the sky of a room whose window looks inward.
This thing is for thinking. It’s not telling you anything you already know.
It’s my birthday, and I think I’m getting myself a bottle of this.
The notes: bergamot, magnolia, and amber on top (I sure don't smell the amber); golden suede, centifolia rose, and violet leaf at the heart; and benzoin siam, raspberry leaf, patchouli coeur, and vanilla at the base.

MASQUE MILANO - WHITE WHALE - Collezione OPERA - ATTO IV Scena IV - Eau de Parfum - Novità 2022 - Sipario. Ora il sogno ha forma viva. .

MASQUE MILANO - COLLEZIONE OPERA
Sedici fragranze suddivise in quattro gruppi (atti) con quattro fragranze ciascuno.
ATTO I    - ESPERIENZE ATTO II   - MONOLOGHI INTERIORI  ATTO III  - RELAZIONI SENTIMENTALI  ATTO IV  - SOGNI

Masque Milano White Whale
Tumblr media
Masque Milano White Whale
notes: salt, olibanum, pepper; osmanthus, ambergris, violet, iris; cedar, vetiver, labdanum, patchouli
nose: Christian Alori
White Whale opens with a very white, transparent, rooty (almost carrotty) abstract iris note. it has a silvery inner glow that I find rather pleasant.
there’s also a similar pale, sheer, synthetic skin-like aura that I imagine is the gesture at ambergris.
an hour in, it’s mostly off-white “ambergris” (probably ambroxan). I like it, but it’s very simple, and at niche prices it’s a bit of a ripoff. But definitely it’s a very nice version of what it is: smooth, radiant, lightly salty, with fleeting moments of fruitiness and suggestions of woodiness, but mostly just the clean dry ivory-gray scent that smells like Vermeer’s deceptively ordinary daylight.
but it’s not that much better than Not A Perfume ($140/100 mL and available at Sephora) and it’s triple the price.

Wearing Masque Milano Love Kills the 2nd day in a row bc I don't have anything else at hand rn and it's working for me. Straightforward rose, bright, high-pitched, a little sweet, a little soapy-green-wet. One spray out of the 10ml atomizer and it was still on my sweater and the shirt I wore underneath the next morning, so maybe it wears better in winter. I like it more than Toy Boy I think but they are of a type to me. I'm gonna give that one another go for sure to see if the weather makes me like him more as well, bc given the price and aesthetic I'd much prefer to prefer Toy Boy. I think what I want from them is a minimalist rose to kinda elevate casual everyday situations. Be one of the classier engineers at the lab kinda deal

good morning i am wearing lost alice by masque milano today
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i hate that this only comes in a 30 mL because i have this weird complex about smaller/travel sized fragrances that i cant use them because theyll empty faster and i feel bad when i wear them. for some reason. anyways this is so pretty i made a post about it a while back but it bears repeating. very delicate and ethereal and ever so lightly floral i think this is a good perfume for a weird girl who still runs a pink/soft blog and is pinterest famous. it smells like sweet milky tea and carrot cake but theres also an edge to it from the black pepper its very peppery..and a certain savoriness from the sandalwood. its whimsical its fun and its a little confusing. i think for a fragrance that drew inspiration from alice in wonderland as much distaste as i have for that book it hits the nail on the head. and i thought it was funny that my cats tail was in the pic because it looks like the cheshire cat🙂

Miss Dior Rose Essence 2021, Atelier Versace, Masque Milano Sleight Of Fern & White Whale reviews
Please don’t shoot the messenger — there’s another version of Miss Dior. Thankfully, there are also two new releases from Masque Milano.
Don’t say they didn’t listen. In what may well turn out to be an influential move, Dior have released a limited edition of Miss Dior (yes, yet another one) under a banner they’re calling Les Recoltes (harvests) with packaging bearing a specific material date. Perhaps our calls for greater transparency around vintages will be answered. I reviewed the scent, as well as several others, in a recent…

AMONG THE MARRIED
1927 / 1929
Tumblr media
Among the Married (formerly The Conflict) is a play by Vincent Lawrence. It was originally produced by Sam H. Harris and later by Philip Goodman. It was directed by Mr. Lawrence.
The story tears the veil from a troubled week in the placid, uneventful life of a young couple of country club persuasion. Ethel Mills, the wife, spurns the advances of William Minot, though he Is attentive, and comes with a peculiar temptation of golf instruction. When she discovers sundry infidelities of her husband and he insists, in some detail, that she has "his whole love, but not his whole passion," she revenges herself with that complete abandon of which only women in love are capable. Their relations are finally resolved, if not logically, at least happily.
Tumblr media
Among the Married opened in Atlantic City at the Apollo Theatre on July 11, 1927. It featured Louis Calhern, Helen Flint, William David, Warren William, Kathryn Givney, and Milano Tilden.  From Atlantic City, the play moved up the Jersey coast to Asbury Park.
Tumblr media
It was also scheduled to visit nearby Long Branch, but that engagement was cancelled.  Plans were for an October production on Broadway. Instead, it played in Baltimore in October, with the goal of opening at Broadway’s Masque Theatre (now the John Golden) on November 1, 1927. A Baltimore critic carped about the play’s propensity to use profanity, especially ones involving the diety.
Among the Married was to be the newly opened Masque’s 5th production. But instead, that honor went to The King Can Do No Wrong starring Lionel Atwill. November came and went with no word of the play’s fate.
Tumblr media
Halfway through December 1927, The Daily News mentioned that Lawrence and Sam Harris were collaborating on a new play titled Possessed.
“William Harris, Jr. emphatically denies the rumors that Vincent Lawrence's play, ‘Possessed,’ is the same which was tried out earlier this season as ‘Among the Married.’ Mr. Harris states that ‘Possessed’ is an entirely new play and was never presented before.”
It wasn’t until the first week in September 1929 that it was announced that rehearsals had begun for the new production, produced by Philip Goodman and starring Frank Morgan and Katherine Wilson.
Tumblr media
Without the benefit of an out-of-town tryout, the play finally opened on Broadway at the Bijou Theatre (209 West 45th Street) on October 3, 1929, just three weeks before the stock market crash that began the great depression.
About the Venue: The Bijou Theatre was built in 1917. In 1935, it became New York's first all-cartoon cinema, beginning a rotating cycle during which the house alternated between legit and movie presentation (except when it was dark from 1937 to 1943). In 1959, the adjoining Astor was renovated and acquired a large chunk of the Bijou's space. It reopened as an art cinema in 1962. Intermittent legit productions followed until the theatre was demolished in 1982, making room for the Marriott Hotel.
Tumblr media
“‘Among the Married’ is funny without straining for effort.” ~ DONALD MULHERN
"Things were said about the Vincent Lawrence comedy, ‘Among the Married,' for example, that led Mr. Lawrence to conclude that certain of the reviewers of his play were as sour as their comment and that they had done him and his opus wrong.” ~ BURNS MANTLE
Tumblr media
On October 21, 1929, the play moved to the 49th Street Theatre
About Venue #2:  The Shuberts built the 49th Street Theatre in 1921, but lost it during the Depression, when it was briefly rented by the Federal Theatre Project for three productions. In 1940, it was closed and reopened for a brief tenure as a movie house, Cinema 49. It was demolished in December 1940.
The play closed on November 9, 1929 after 44 performances.
Tumblr media
A production quickly opened in Hollywood starring Florence Eldridge and Edward Everett Horton.
Tumblr media
In 1931 a film version was released under the title of Men Call It Love starring Adolph Menjou and Leila Hyams. The supporting cast featured future gossip maven Hedda Hopper.
Tumblr media
The film opened in Atlantic City at the Strand Theatre, across from Steel Pier, on March 27, 1931.
