Random opinion that literally no one asked for but I feel like sharing anyways

The AOS trio of movies flow into the mcspirk relationship really well. Let me explain.

Star Trek: Mckirk - this is the Mckirk centric movie. Kirk and Bones meet and become really close and are essentially each other's only friend. Bones sneaks Kirk on to the Enterprise because he sees that Kirk is sad. Bones is extremely upset when Kirk gets marooned. And just overall it's very centered around their dynamic more so than spones or spirk.

Star Trek into darkness: Spirk - this is the Spirk centric movie. Literally just everything about it from Spock and the volcano to kirks death and Spock's reaction to said death. Honestly not much else to say about this one it's super obvious if you just watch the film. Still some Mckirk tho with them being on the one planet together and also Bones' reaction to Kirks death.

Star Trek beyond: Spones - this is the Spones centric movie. Spock and Bones practically spend this entire movie together. They're stranded together when Bones treats Spock and then they're together later when piloting the ship. Similar to into darkness it's just super obvious if you watch the film. Both still do show obvious care for Kirk especially when he nearly dies (again)

This all leads to the end of beyond with the shot of the three of them together which is very mcspirk of them

Anyways that's just something I think about a lot.

Mccoy's "Type"

Mccoy does like himself a good ole southerner, but even in the future, southerners can sometimes be a bit closed-minded.

More than anything, he wants someone he can relate to. He loves playful banter, and being able to harp on you/bicker with his partner, knowing they understand that it's all in jest.

He also won't admit it, but he finds it adorable—and hilarious—if his partner doesn't understand his southern slang. Southern slang is 100%... out there, and he understands. But his angry outburst of God-knows-what being met by furrowed brows and/or a quirked lip always help bring more humor to any situation, and helps damper the negative emotions.

He's got strong morals, but as a classic southerner, it's more of "murder's not okay but if you hurt my child/spouse/friend it is", and he appreciates someone who understands that reasoning and respects it.

All of this to say, his type is someone that just clicks. Doesn't have to be like him, just work with him. Adore and love him as he will adore and love his partner.

A lovely AU fic, inspired by Mr. Rose by Spence Hood (go have a listen.) I love how the crew is worked into things, and how much Jim’s character is included, despite not being part of the main ship. One of the first Spones pieces that I’ve read. It’s got pining, forbidden romance, and Jim Kirk induced hijinks. Definitely check out the art that goes with it! x

If SNW insists on giving Spock a string of failed romances, they should at least also make Spock/McCoy canon. Not because I ship it but because it'd explain their dynamic in TOS in a funny way: they're bickering bitter exes, of course.

We are dedicating June 26th as Official Spones Day in celebration of the Spock/McCoy relationship!

Plenty of other ships in Star Trek and other fandoms have a dedicated "day" to celebrate their ship, and we thought, "why not make one for Spones?" This date was chosen by the We Go Together Zine committee as it is the day in between June 1 (the release date for The Search for Spock) and July 22 (the release date for Star Trek: Beyond). Those movies were also number 1 and 2 in our "favorite moments" poll, so it is no coincidence those releases had a huge impact on the Spones community across generations.

I for one am planning on celebrating by posting a Spones fic 👀
