Groningen - nature conservationists to court because Rammstein noise

This and the next 4 photos are from Giethoorn. We stopped there for the night before going into Meppel. I don’t know how I never heard of this spot before but it is given the title of “prettiest village in The Netherlands” it has many quaint homes and many picturesque canals with dozens of little wooden bridges. The only problem was the number of tourists, it was mobbed. We took a tourist boat thru the village and there were so many small rental boats that kept banging into each other it was crazy.

Meppel was a good visit, we had been there many years ago. Then we went on to Steenwijk and the rain came back.

Het nieuws vermeld net dat een meerderheid van de tweede kamer de accijnsverhoging op benzine wil terugdraaien en prima I guess voor mensen die met de auto moeten. Maar. Dit herinnerde me aan een youtube video die ik laatst keek waarin een Amerikaanse expat zei dat Nederland bijna het duurste openbaar vervoer van Europa heeft (en als je kijkt naar het modale inkomen helemaal) dus ik dacht, laat ik eens kijken of de auto of de trein goedkoper is.

Dat verschilt natuurlijk per auto, maar de ANWB heeft een handig rekenvoorbeeld voor Zaandam-Utrecht, dat is 60 kilometer, ze gaan uit van een auto die 1 op 15 rijdt en ze geven dat de huidige gemiddelde benzineprijs €2,13 is. Dat geeft dus €8,52. Dat is al best duur, de trein zal toch wel niet (veel) duurder zijn?

FOUT! De trein is een volle 27% duurder! Waarom zouden mensen in vredesnaam nog met het ov gaan? Want de tweede kamer wil de beoogde verhoging in ticketprijzen niet tegengaan
