A Home So Far, Yet So Near
Tumblr media
Dancing With Your Ghost by Sasha Alex Sloan. It was a song you showed me, and I immediately started writing a Metalsea bit for it. And now I ended up finishing it, after many many months, lol. So thank you, love! I don't think it needs so much context, it's just a little siblings dynamic exploration between Syon and Avelyn.
TINY CONTEXT: Avelyn and Syon weren't so close when they were little, and their paths separate. After a long-long time, they meet again, and have some bonding time.
BOOK II EXPLORATION | DYNAMIC EXPLORATION | MOSTLY FLUFF | SISTER DYNAMIC | WC: 1787
Yaran’s Mid-Summer Festival held such a strange version in its glowing belly.
Avelyn smiled at Cronyl, suppressing a sigh.
The grandiose bonfire crackled in the centre of the desert, people dancing and singing around. They ate, drank, and celebrated in a way that could nearly convince Avelyn that life wasn’t fully known back in her home. Bra’aka could lure even Cronyl to the dancefloor, teasing relentlessly about his make-believe inability. They did not last too long, yet the ghostly touch of a smile still rested on his lip when he walked back to her. Since then, they sat on the two sides of this rough stone table, watching the lot, hands touching on the top just enough to feel the other’s presence.
Avelyn should have wanted to dance with Cronyl. Every couple did that. She, however, was overwhelmed by another feeling. She loved to be around Cronyl, she wanted to be around him. But tonight, for the longest time perhaps, her mind was not focused on him. Tonight, she looked at the colorful, gemlike fire lamps and saw herself as a kid, reaching for them to grab it; just like a little one did the same thing not far from them. Tonight, she noticed the rigid little stumbles she and Syon made, when they practised the required siblings dance — exactly like two little ones on the edge of the dancefloor. Tonight, the sweet-scented desserts on the tables have made her see herself nervously pulling on Father’s clothes to get his attention and let Syon convince him to buy them some. Just like the Shar-Dlin twins did, doe-eyes watching the desserts intently on the food table.
Tonight, Avelyn realized this Mid-Summer Festival wasn’t so much different after all. If only this epiphany could have filled the hollow that a home being out of reach has left.
“Shall we?” The voice of crackling fire asked, earning her attention.
Avelyn looked up to find her sister standing before her, one delicate hand extended forward. Her features bore the same calm confidence she used to see in her in their entire life. Yet, she could also see her shoulders slump in a way that others might have missed. But not Avelyn.
Not her.
Avelyn accepted the hand. It was a strange feeling really, her hand in Syon’s. Something she rarely experienced, even in their childhood.
She rose from her seat and was about to turn to Cronyl so she could inform him — or ask for reassurance of her decision. However, he was already walking past Syon’s back. One, metal-focused eye glanced at Avelyn and a slight nod made her feel gratefulness bloom in her chest. If someone, Cronyl knew way too well when to be on his way.
With that, Avelyn stayed alone with her sister. Syon held her hand carefully, but firmly, leading her onto the dance floor. Only then, did Avelyn notice how the gathering settled and slowed down. The fire still flickered and blazed at the centre, but there were very few people standing. The music died out, so the only melody came from the djanvaar’s gentle humming. Fluttering, playing starbugs conquered the dance floor, tiny explosions of their small stars lighting up even more. She wondered if the old tales had been right; that wild starbugs only did that if they were happy.
Syon stopped them in the middle, equally far from everyone and everything. She then turned to Avelyn and slid her hand over her waist. Such a strange feeling still. Avelyn did the same, noticing her movements being more rigid than relaxed. It wasn’t something she was used to. Yet she wanted to stay.
So she lifted her gaze to look into her sister’s eyes.
Bad idea.
They were staring at her as well, both of that unusual tinge she only saw on warriors. Syon never failed to seem intimidating or let her gaze be just a little less intense. That was one of the reasons why Avelyn never really locked eyes with her.
“It’s strange, isn’t it?” She didn’t mean to speak, but she couldn’t stop herself either. “This festival. So strange. I mean, what they did with all these plants as decoration and the djaanvar as some kind of musicbox. It’s eccentric the least. Can you imagine what Mother would think?”
Children laughed in the background, their voices turning small but just as full of joy as before. Syon scoffed, yet a genuine half-curve painted her face softer instead of the humourless smile she always gifted people with.
“She’d be out of her mind. But she’d enjoy the dance, if Father would ask her for a round, that is,” she chuckled, and Avelyn needed to swallow back a surprised gaping. A similar giggle left her throat, as unintentional as unstoppable.
Their bare feet tapped the warm ground close beside each other, Syon’s presence ruling their dance. She guided Avelyn’s movements just like she did when they were small. Those lessons were one of the most challenging in their childhood. She remembered clearly because they were a spectacle back then, the peculiar siblings who were not easy to forget.
She felt a gentle push on her back, looking back into Syon’s eyes.
“Do you remember our dance lessons?”
Avelyn opened her mouth, then looked at her feet that almost stepped on Syon’s accidentally. Her feet avoided Avelyn’s as proficiently as always, smoothing out their performance the best she could. Yet, no force was in her anymore.
“I’m sorry,” Avelyn started, trying to lean back. Syon let her. “Clearly, I do.”
Another chuckle joined the humming of the djaanvar.
“You’re doing great, Lyn. Dance Master Liona would be proud. She’d even forgive all the headache we gave her.” They turned, the flames coming to Avelyn’s sight, outlining Syon’s form like blazing fireflies in the night. “She might never forget us.”
“Not much sibling pair made her nearly quit. We could thank Father’s soft-spoken charm that she stayed — that’s what Mother told me.”
The memory came alive in the fire’s flickers, Avelyn’s eyes following their little forms sway to one side and the other. Rigid hands touched, a gaping distance laying between their child flame-figure. Too much distance. “Closer!” and “Act like you’re siblings” faintly echoed in her ears.
She held Syon’s sparkling crimson eyes and found herself smiling with her.
Her body remembered the tension of those touches. Of being so close to the girl who shared the same blood with. Of fear, terrible fear from dancing with a sibling that was no more than a stranger.
“I’m so sorry, Lyn,” Syon whispered, yet it could be heard loud and clear. Confident. Genuine. Avelyn kept the scratching feeling in her throat at bay, forcing herself to keep looking at her sister. To keep listening to her. “I know I’ve been always farther away than I should have been. There is no excuse for that, though I had many. You tried to come close, yet I did not let you. I believed you chose the Temple only to pull yourself out of the noble betrothal misery. At some point, I believed you did it just to let every responsibility of our house fall on me, and me only.”
A feather touch weighed on Avelyn’s back, asking — begging to come a little closer.
She did so.
“I’m aware that was foolish,” Syon continued, voice softer than Mother’s night song. Softer than Avelyn had ever heard. “You might have had a shard of that reason, but I know you merely wanted to get away. From Mother, from Father… from me. You need connections, I realise that now. People to be close with, to be open with. You care so much, it’s frightening. Especially for someone like me. I felt threatened by you, I confess. I envied your ability to read people the way you did; with ease and compassion. And that made me bitter, because compassion I lack, even still…”
“No.” Avelyn’s voice was but a whisper, but nothing had sounded clearer. Syon smiled, her eyes misting the most subtle way. “You do not, sister. I was just as selfish, only more of a coward. You faced your duties and expectations with valiant grace. You had every right to…”
“Lyn.”
A delicate finger, tangled with Avelyn’s, swiped a single teardrop away from her cheek. So kind. So close. So tender. Hearing the kind little nickname Father gave her constantly rolling off of Syon’s lips made her own quiver. All the memories of the lonely girl practising dances in her room alone faded, longing for affection withering away. A glance, a joke, a smile. Everything her soul starved for from a sister out of reach. It twirled in the fire, slowly blending into smoke, and joining the cooling air around them.
Syon embraced her, when Avelyn dared leaning over her shoulder, cheek pressed in the crook of her neck.
“Let me have my regrets, and I let you have yours. Both of us learned and changed, all right? And oh how you did so. I regret how I pushed you away, how I abandoned you, but I am exceptionally proud of who you became, little sister. It was and still is all you. I can only hope you are to forgive me, so I can keep watching your path of becoming an incredible woman even further.”
Words crackled in her throat along with the fire’s flames, hands holding each other so close, that Avelyn found it hard to believe. A soft, silent hiccup left her lips when she felt a distant wetness on her shoulder.
“Not only me. I wanted to become like you, sister. Your memory gave me strength when I used up mine. Even if you couldn’t give me affection, you gave me strength. You gave me will and a role model. I regret not being able to stand beside you when we were little, but I am grateful for a bastion in need,” she breathed, losing herself in the swaying.
A throaty giggle made Syon’s chest resonate, making Avelyn smile along under her closed, drenched lashes. A bastion in need; Father’s attempt to be romantic with Mother. Their only humour source from their childhood.
Huddled beside the fire, Avelyn could still feel the chill that slowly settled onto the horizon, but she was not cold in the embrace of her sister. They stayed tangled, close as never before, until the fire began to flicker. Syon hummed with the djaanvar, yet not the same melody, but an old song they used to sleep to. Avelyn couldn’t help, but join, feeling a weight so profound crumble. She might have been a great distance away from home, yet she did not feel the absence anymore.
Not beside Syon, her sister.

Happy Story-teller Saturday! (hah, got ya back and also your theme is incredible and I live on your page now) Metalsea is absurdly fascinating, and I am curious to know what your favorite part of creating it was. What parts of it did you enjoy putting together the most?
Hey, lovely! Thank you so much, please! I'm so happy you love my page and my baby, ah. I'm lurking through yours too whenever I get proper freetime, so it's a plus.
Now, about Metalsea my beloved passion project. Honestly, I have a blast worldbuilding it, because I'm a sucker for a fully packed fantasy world, lol. It's still under development in most of the parts, because even if I have my foundations for the world, religion and magic, I only notice what's missing during writing. It might work like that for others too, but yeah, hehe.
My favorite part is, though, is working on the religions and the magic system. Especially the colour-chaning eyes. That one was purely based on my visual-lover brain, and the fact that I love colourful eyes. Wanted them to have something relevance besides looking neat. I still need to establish how many colours do they have, and which is for which profession/skill, but it's fun to work on with my partner after work, since I develop my ideas, words, stories with his help.
I also can't leave out character dynamics, as it's something I'm the most focused on in my creations and in other's too, when I consume art. I'm obscenely interested in people, so the interactions are one of the most interesting things for me. And tumblr prompt games are a huge help in figuring out those too, so that is one more reason hehe. Plus, I think this is one of the things I can best explore the themes I'd like to show.

Dance of Deceit
Tumblr media
Moonsea by PHILDER gave me the brainrot for my first Cronyl and Syonehlia dynamic exploration. More like the back and forth of their almost relationship that breaks under a feather even lol. The line “don’t share the past, if you won’t share your heart” guided me through all of this, so. Anyway, it was fun hehe
Context: Syonehlia shows to Cronyl how she imagined the Proposal Performance they should perform before the Prince. She plans to do martial arts diguised as dancing. They already had a start of an argument about this at this point, because Cronyl doesn't want to do this. Cronyl also has fallen for Syon but she keeps her distance, so there’s some tension. To say the least.
CRONYL AND SYONEHLIA | BOOK 1 EXPLORATION | WC: 446
“Watch.”
Syonehlia’s lips almost seemed to turn into some kind of smile, as she began to move slowly.
One step forward, her arms and her body twirled slightly, a familiar, yet so unknown motion to Cronyl. Soft, strange melody accompanied her movements, another step and a delicate spin on her toes. A moonbeam brightened up her form, following her as if He’d been mesmerized by the performance.
Cronyl gently leaned away from the way of the slap she intended to land on his face. She disguised the gesture well enough to deceive the untrained eyes. But not his.
He picked up her rhythm, stepping closer while they both began to circle the other. His muscles felt tight from frustration, yet he followed her lead as she tenderly shoved his wrist attack at their side. A tiny touch of their skin made him eager to move closer or storm away at the same time.
He remained in place, however.
“It’s obvious,” he stated, loud enough to be heard by her, but quietly enough to not disturb the Humming Oaks’ melody in the distance.
“For you.”
She switched her pacing, her eyes piercing into his soul as their gazes met.
A shiver ran down his spine when he veered, moving out of the way of her graceful kick. The moon seemed to pour all of its light at them in the backyard, Syonehlia’s hair freely flowing in the soft breeze, the pale blonde locks sparkling under the beams’ touch. Her training tunics rustled at every maneuver.
The air seemed nearly vibrating around them, eyes never leaving one another, not even when one of them attacked during their dance of camouflage.
Syonehlia’s lips curved upward eventually, she receding a bit.
“There were some nights in the past when the gardener boy requested dance lessons from me. It’s been a long time ago, we’ve been still kids. He seemed especially fond of me, nevertheless.” Her voice flickered with confidence, though, Cronyl couldn’t tell if she noticed the setting of his jaw. She might have always been like this.
“Why telling me this?” he spun on his toes, wrist to her neck whilst he twirled behind her. Syonehlia’s back straightened a bit in surprise, though she was quick to try to push his arm away. He already pulled it back, however, not bearing the thought of another touch.
“Because I trust you.”
She turned towards him, determination and something else in her seemingly unwavering eyes.
“Do you?” Cronyl moved closer, almost crossing his own line.
Syonehlia stepped back, and he felt a bitter smile tugging at his lips. She always stepped back.

Happy Blorbo Blursday!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I've been catching up on some of your posts, and you mentioned that Darmon eventually gets a love interest, one of the POV characters that he frees from prison. Can we hear more about that? :3c What are their first impressions of each other? What are their interactions like?
Happy Blorbo Blursday sweetest!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Of course you can!!! (ngl I'm unspeakably happy you guys love Darmon and his romance)
His love interest is Syonehlia Dione who I originally planned to be another POV character's (Avelyn Dione, Cronyl's love interest) twin, but as I go with the story and everything she gives off a big sis vibe, so I think I'll stick to simple siblings. ANYWAY, she's the daughter of a noble house that has a very good and close relationship with the royal family, since her father is the Highscribe of the Palace. Her parents want her to marry well, since Avelyn joined the pristesses and can't get married, which means they get very happy, when the prince proposes Syon. Now, Syonehlia is a very powerful personality, who might act as the perfect noble woman, but very much want to learn fighting, staying free from the responsibility of leading people and not necessarily becoming a bodygruard, but she wouldn't turn down an offer from The Ivory Guard to join them. She also turned down some suitor already and to the rest she made it clear that if they try something similar, she will not be kind anymore. So man either see her as a competition or just too intimidating/demanding to get close to and she's very much okay with that. Except the prince of course, because he sees her as a challenge and since she can't really say no to him because of their statuses and the houses' relationships, he makes a move. (yes the prince won't be a likable character hehe)
However, Syon won't let herself forced into anything, so she uses a cultural tradition to get away. Big spoiler, but that cultural tradition is a trap that Darmon and Troghrun figured out and get spread among the driadlin long ago to get people come to them voluntarily. That's how he captures Syon and a bunch of other driadlin.
Syon's first impression is pretty much that Darmon can go to hell with his psychopathic ideals. She is the kind of person who will harshly, but calmly tell the other one her opinion, especially if it's about immorality. She's fierce, but in a way that she still seems put together or unshakable (which may or may not be the truth). She despises Darmon and his actions, so every time he tries to talk to her and/or the other prisoners, she will just straight out question him. As much as she wants him to die a terrible, cruel death for what he does, some sick part of her wants to understand at least a little bit how can someone do horrible things like that. (Because she also never met a human before, only heared about them in legends, and that her entire culture were built upon a lie because of them actually tickles her curiousity.) While she also wants to get their grand plans out of him, so maybe she can use it to get free.
This honestly amuses Darmon. His first impression is that she's a very selfish one, but also commendably persistent. He've met driadlin like her before, rich lot who think they can outsmart him with their questions and lectures. And yes, maybe Syon seems less frightened and lost than the rest at first, but every similar prisoner like her have broken at the end. Breaking them always leaves a sour taste in his mouth, but sometimes you need to get a little harsher to help someone who’s too lost to know they need help, right? He sees right through her and tells her some truth she probably don’t want to hear. He also pities her a bit. She doesn't know she shouldn't exist, she doesn't belong to this world, that she needs help, so of course she resits. However, he answers her questions about some things. He doesn’t realises it at first, but as soon as she starts to ask about the process of their magic, the system they work in etc. he started to act like she is a person too, not a creature from some alien place. And that’s why she can be one of those who shake him when they first see the product and the process of Troghrun's plans. They also don't get any romantic feelings for a long time, because this is a slooow burn and I also don't want to step into Stockholm Syndrome fields.
Their interactions mostly goes by Darmon being a creepily calm smartass (at the beginning) when it’s about strategic stuff and where they put danger in the world they should avoid, then Syon reminding him, the reason he knows these things isn’t something he can just get rid of so easily.
“You might have helped us, but you haven't changed yet. You only made a less horrible decision than anytime in the last, what? Thousand years? It's a start, but it won't matter if, at the end, you'll still share the idea of being any better than us. Problems are not nesting only in actions. They're born in the mind.”
They basically just help each other see some situation from another perspective. She helps him get his whole mindset change, because she's not sensitive for things like that and (usually) won't get offended by things Darmon might do or say unconsciously, she understands the hardship of the whole thing. While Darmon will help her realise that she was selfish the whole time, when she just ran away from every responsibility, basically left her family to deal with an angry royal family alone, also that even if she wants to avoid being a leader she naturally becomes one around people. And she enjoys it too.
She also comforts Darmon in the most non-gentle way that he appreciates the most, because it's the kind of raw honesty that he wants to recieve.
“Don’t turn down the credit of saving that child. By doing that, you're just making her think she wasn’t worth saving. You saved her, now deal with it.”
“You've handled that "thank you" as a man. Congratulations, Strotagor.”
(Yes, Darmon will have some issues taking compliments and gratitude for what he've done after starting to save people. And Syon won't let it slide, because why would she?) But she also won't always be sarcastic, so the last line as much as it sounds like that, she would say that seriously. And he will be very thankful for it.
OKAY I WROTE ALREADY A LOT OMG AND I STILL HAVE A LOT TO SAY, BUT I'LL STOP HERE FOR NOW LMAOOO
I don't know if I could show what kind of dynamic I imagined for them, but I've tried! Thank you for the ask!!! ❤️❤️❤️ [tagging @bloodlessheirbyjacques because you liked the Darmon contents too ❤️]

happy blorbo blursday! which of your ocs would be best/worst at taking care of a small child for a weekend?
Happy Blorbo Blursday, Eggy! Thank you so much for the ask, friend! ❤️
Starting with the disaster: Syonehlia. I imagine her being too strict and not a least fun person, who would be totally clueless with a child. She wants to be good with them, but she’s just not.
The best: The rest of the cast lmao. Okay, no, jokes aside, I think the best would be Bra’aka. He’s a dad already, and he also a big ball of goof who likes to have fun while he also very competent in taking care of anyone.

After forever I can finally answer to this lol, sorry!!
I’m so so happy you like all of them!! And yay, another Darmon lover, welcome to the family! 😌💕 @bloodlessheirbyjacques was the first member of this bunch and I was very happy to see that Darmon is getting love!! Yes, it is definitely part of his story! I also happen to post more content with him recently (like this snippet) so, I’ll keep you updated on him if you want!
Aaand the girl friendships are very half-baked yet, but:
One of the main ones will be going between Avelyn and Nareethi. Avelyn is a pristess, who’s very curious, and educated, but she grew up in a very isolated part of the city. So she’s pretty quick to judge, since she’s from a noble family and a pristess who lives in the temple. Therefore she haven’t really seen anything from the real world, so to speak. She only knows that was taught to her and some other things she found in the temple. She can say and ask a lot of problematic thing because of this. But Nareethi will be one of the first ones who doesn’t bothered by it, in fact, she loves to answer her questions about her culture and she also loves that someone finally asks things she did not thought about it yet. (Avelyn is a driadlin, Nareethi is a Shar-Dlin) Nareethi also loves to talk a lot, like, a talks-for-an-hour-with-only-one-breath lot. While Avelyn likes to listen, so she usually note what Nareethi says. They complement each other with this. Also, Nareethi helps Avelyn to realize some things with her constant talking. Nareethi is almost like if she has no filter, so when something pops into her head, she speaks it out, which sometimes turns out to be a very interesting and fundament questions towards how and why people act and/or being like they are etc.
The other one I can think of is between Syonehlia and Drehana. (yes, hello Jaq <3) Syonehlia is the sister of Avelyn and the lover of Darmon, while Drehana is one of the driadlin who was captured by Darmon. They basically in the same rescued crew and they both are pretty confident personalities. They definitely rivals on some level, because they are into martial arts and they have the skill to lead people. However, Drehana doesn't want to do it, she more likes to be beside the leader and among the crewmates. Drehana will also flirt a lot with Syon and she's gonna basically compete with Eldnar in making people embarrassed. The base of her personality is that she calls people "dear" or "darling" and she's very straightforward. This is why they get to be friends with Syon, both of them are painfully direct. Drehan also teaches Syon how to fight better which is a big thing because no-one was really up for that task. They either was intimidated by Syon or just refused it because she's a woman.
Also, Syon and Avel are sisters, but they never were friends. They weren't even actually too close, even tho they never hated each other. So they'll learn to get each other inside their lives and they'll stronger their bond, becoming friends and then true sisters.
These are the ones that came into my mind right now! ❤️
Wait wait wait, Metalsea has LOADS OF BROMANCE? Where where where? What characters? Pls tell me more 🙏 @writingonesdreams
I'm SO happy you're this excited about it!!! ♡
The main bromance will be going between Darmon and Cronyl, since they are kind of the mainest main characters too, but they won't know each other until the first quarter of the story, so :D. They also won't start on very good terms, but that's just how they start most friendship/relationship. They're gonna be mostly frenemies until the last quarter of the story. However, what brings them together is that they have the same issues, emotional and mental hardships, therefore they're the only ones from the group who can truly understand what's the other one is going through. They'll also push each other forward in a way that Cronyl is basically Darmon's moral ideal, while Darmon is Cronyl's social ideal. They're the kind of friends whom sit beside each other when one of them is feeling down and stay in slience through the whole time.
The another important bromance will be between Cronyl and Bra'aka. They have a bit of an age difference, because Cronyl is a kind of 22-23 years old diradlin, but Bra'aka is at least a ten years older draar, which is not confirmed tho since the draar age a little differently. Either way, they're gonna stumble upon each other after a turning event in the beginning and will team up, even though they're gonna have a lot of differences (who doesn't have that with Cronyl lmao). Their personality is on of them. Cronyl is a very closed off person because of his heavy past and the fact that he wants to stay alone, while Bra'aka is more goofy and open, who always needs people around him. Both of them having a bad experience with the driadlin gonna make them bond over this, and then the fact that they both want to end the pointless racism and rivalry between their nations. They're gonna bicker verbally a lot and the only reason they don't fight is because Cronyl has issues with that. Despite their goals aligning their friendship definitely involves friendly rivalry and brutal honesty. These appeal them the best in each other. Finally someone isn't afraid of them, nor judging them. Bra'aka will help Cronyl to open up to him and in general to others, so he's gonna be basically the reason why Cronyl and his love interest get together. (Bra'aka is also gonna be veeery close with Cronyl's love interest first, they're best friends too lol.)
There also some side bromance between Darmon and a driadlin named Eldnar. Eldnar is a very easy-going personality, who was captured by Darmon, so when Darmon frees him and the others who inprisoned, Eldnar is the first one to start talking to him. Eldnar is one of the reason why Darmon start to think about differently of the new folk. And Darmon is one of those rare people who Eldnar can't make emembarrased with his direct and cheeky comments. His basically the joker character, but I plan to give him some more depth than that. Darmon also can make him upset with some comments on the driadlin at the beginning, so he also help Darmon to get himself together and pay attention to what he says, how his thinking and attitude still wanders back to the time when he was with the villain. So, esentially, Eldnar helps Darmon to adjust himself into their society, while Eldnar will get some self-esteen boost from Darmon, because he will be the first one who noticed that the driadlin has this issue.
Then, what comes into my mind too is a not necessarily bromance, but a future-son-and-father-in-law-mance (?) between Darmon and Litan. Litan is Darmon's love interst's dad, who he meets in the prison, when both of them gets captured. It's a fun little dynamic, because they are having a little different world view, but at this point of the story, they both want to learn how to act and understand the people around them properly. They also gonna talk about Syonehlia, who's the love interest and the daughter too, but they will never say the name of her, so they're gonna have no clue it's the same person. Nevertheless, they will still convince the other one about something important towards their relationship with Syon.
I think this is it yet, but more can form as I go forward with the story. Darmon and Eldnar is a little half-baked yet, but this is kind of the base idea of their friendship.
Thank you for your question and interest, dear!! ❤️🥺

If I Push Will You Pull?
Tumblr media
Thank you for the challenge, my love! It was a fun exploration for Cronyl and Syon, since you know they were the first one to pop into my mind. Though, I took the liberty to translate dance to "their version" of dance lol. Also the song where I get the title and the vibe from is Push // Pull by Sam Sky, Lauren Babic.
Context: Syonehlia gets the news about that she her attendnce is required as one of the possible candidates of the Prince's bride. In the meantime, Cronyl's late from their martial art practice. Prompts from this list.
CRONYL AND SYON | BOOK I EXPLORATION | ANGST | WC: 1,119
He’s not coming, isn’t he?
Syonehlia spun on her heels, hitting her invisible enemy in the throat with the edge of her hand. Her palm and fingers were stiff enough to make the move lethal. However, there was no one to tell her if it was actually as accurate as she presumed.
She kicked into the air, her training pants rustling from the intense movement.
Have you seen the letter on the counter? It came soon after you left today.
An hour, two or more, she couldn’t say how long she was out here. Time slipped away, and she didn’t even try to catch it anymore. Her forehead soaked, pearls of her sweat hitting the stone when she sharpened her ankle spike for an attack.
The back of the garden has always been quiet around dawn.
It bore the royal seal.
Her panting and silent growl almost echoed through the backyard. It counted as one of the charms of the place, and the main reason why they chose this spot to practice. Not even the servants wandered here.
Your Majesty gave it to me personally during our last consultation.
Syonehlia was completely alone.
He said the time has come when the Prince shall find a bride.
She stepped further, ready to strike at her make-believe enemy. But then, she tripped. She could balance herself just in time to not land on the ground.
Syonehlia stopped, heaving. A massive wave of wind blew through the land, rustling every leaf, and carrying the bitter scent of dirt. Then, as a vague attempt of soothing the troubled, the smell of rain hit her nose.
Cronyl liked the rain. He said the best way to learn how to control your motions is when you train under rainfall. It felt as if he repeated a hundred times now.
Syonehlia leaned over on her knees, her sweat stinging her eyes. She closed one eye, looking at the gathering clouds up in the sky.
Grey.
The grey dullness always reminded her of Cronyl.
It’s an invitation, dear daughter. Dedicated to you.
She gritted her teeth, her bothersome panting not easing fast enough. It wasn’t enough. She wasn’t improving fast enough. She needed to do better. She needed to be better at this.
Working yourself to death out of spite will take you so far, heiress.
Cronyl’s voice resonated in the almost unhearable rumbling of the rainclouds. They silently sneaked upon the land, slowly blanketing it.
Then, without warning, it began to pour.
Syonehlia straightened, her face towards the sky. Father’s voice never left her mind, the way he addressed the letter and its content. Yet, it huddled in the back as Cronyl’s advices overshadowed it.
She closed her eyes, letting the eager raindrops wash over her face, soaking her entire body.
There was no denying; she knew a moment like this will come. A wealthier noble heir was her boldest assumption, but the Prince… no. He was something she never considered.
She shrugged, something crawling under her skin.
Unfortunately, it made sense, if she thought about it.
Her Father was the High Scribe of the King, they spent a considerably long time together every day. She was a fool.
Syonehlia listened to the rain. It washed over the land, like a wall of gentle disappointment. Her heated body slowly cooled down drop by drop, her hair stuck onto her face.
There was no point in waiting out here anymore.
She didn’t hear footsteps, nor heavy breathing, but she noticed the patting of the raindrops on the grass changing. She opened her eyes and turned around; perhaps a little too quickly even.
Cronyl’s soaking wet clothes stuck to his figure, bringing out his lean, muscled body as it never did before. His hair trapped into a ponytail completely drenched as well.
If soundlessly, but he was panting.
And he only stood before her, not nearing closer, nor trying to utter a million excuses any minute now.
He just frowned.
“What are you doing?” Cronyl’s eyes wandered from her gaze, down her body, then back to her face.
She didn’t answer. She could only watch him while listening to the melody of heavy rainfall. As it somehow convinced the Humming Oaks to hum in sync with its resonating drops.
Then, Syonehlia launched forward, spinning on her heels to kick toward his head.
Cronyl leaned back just in time, but still, she cut a tiny piece off of his hair, the strands falling quickly under the force of nature. It wasn’t a storm, yet it poured heavy enough. And it seemed to strengthen.
She saw his frown deepen before she aimed her wrist spike at his side.
Water splashed as he caught her arm in mid-air, then tried to twist it behind her back, while he gracefully leaped at the side and turned to get behind her. She could already feel his breath on her neck. She saw the motion coming, however.
With a quick twist of her wrist, she freed herself, turning with Cronyl in sync.
Only to find herself face to face with his wrist spike at her throat.
She lost once more.
It was quiet again. No one uttered a word as both panted slightly, rain still pouring at them from the grey dullness from up there. Faces inches away from each other, their breaths were wisps of air in the cooling weather, mixing and twirling away. They locked eyes and none of them was about to break it.
Her skin itched where the point of the spike almost touched it.
She could see flames in his eyes, but she couldn’t tell what summoned it exactly. Or what it meant.
Anger, confusion, desire.
She didn’t care. She didn’t, and so she let her guard down.
As if sensing this, Cronyl’s breath slowed as well, the tension in his muscles visibly easing while he lowered his hand. Only to evenly rose it to her face. His spikes pulled back, his eyes never leaving her’s as he carefully brushed a wet strand of hair behind her ear. It stuck to her face during their fight.
“Talk to me,” he whispered, watching after his delicate fingers.
Such a tender movement, a loving touch. There was an unsettling urge at her core to lean onto it. To lean closer. What would he say if Syonehlia just grabbed him by his tunic, crashing on his lips and dragging him into her bedroom? What would she see in his eyes?
Anger, confusion, or…
She snatched his hand away, turning on her heels.
“Your fee is on the table. Session’s over.”

“we have just met and yet it feels like i have known you for a lifetime.”
We Have Just Met and Yet It Feels Like I Have Known You for a Lifetime
Tumblr media
PART I | PART II
Oh man, this isn’t something I thought I’ll write for this. But here we are. Thank you for the prompt even tho it’s been a minute! (I used it more as a title, because it just fit more as one in my head.) It’s a Metalsea AU and I’m not sure if it makes sense or is any good, but it’s something. Inspired by Dope Lover by DPR IAN.
MODERN AU | AVELYN AND CRONYL | DYNAMIC EXPLORATION | WC: 1,492
Neon streaks stalked the dance floor, pink and blue snuggling among the sweating, perfumed bodies. Every beam caressed the people from their twirling toes to their unruly hair that lost shape from the muggy air. Slipped-up skirts, loosened pants, unbuttoned shirts, grasped blouses, long hairs stuck to foreheads, short cuts ruined by fingers tangling among the locks. However big the nightclub has been, the people pressed together as if desperately trying to mold into one big mass of longing.
Cronyl tore his gaze away from the crowd as they waved in unison to the music.
He raised his glass to his lips, thinking for a moment before he swallowed down the burning whiskey with one swift gulp. The beats of the song thumped in his head as he put his glass back with the slightest grimace on his face.
“It’s fine,” he dismissed the bartender trying to pour him more with a hand over his glass. He couldn’t decide if the bending music made his voice so hoarse or if it’s always been like that.
“Are you sure? It’s medicine for rough days.”
Cronyl lifted his heavy lashes. The bartender’s face bathed in the dim reflection of the neon lights that bounced back from the mirror of the dance floor. Yet, he could still make out the softness of her features and her pale blonde ponytail that cascaded onto her shoulder. Her blouse opened only a little over her moderately tight vest that hugged her torso.
She was holding a bottle of water over the counter.
He pulled his hand back. “Am I that obvious?”
“Hm, oh no, I walk around asking the same from everyone.”
Loud, chest-trembling electric bass repressed Cronyl’s half-hearted chuckle as the bartender filled up his glass. The motion seemed way too delicate for anyone working in a nightclub, even if a fancy one. She wiped off the mouth of the glass bottle with a rug, then tossed it over her shoulder and leaned onto the counter.
Cronyl cocked an eyebrow as he took a sip from his drink.
“Yes?”
“Nothing.” Her blonde ponytail slipped from her shoulder as she watched him, a smile spreading across her lips. “Just trying to figure it out.”
“My rough day?” he asked, no amusement coloring his tone. There was something in people that worked in nightclubs that chased Cronyl’s apathy to the surface. Their openness, or nosiness, maybe.
“Your drink.”
Embers of the many faces of desire reached higher behind him when the music reached its peak, the quick silences for effect, the deepening of the bass, and the cacophony of electric waves following each other to blend. Pink-blue merged into a sensual purple, wiggling and bouncing shadows dancing on the bartender’s figure.
Cronyl clicked his tongue.
“I’m not in the mood for cryptic flirting.”
Her smile widened. “Good, wait then. I think I got it.”
She pushed herself from the counter, turning around with momentum. Her hips swayed for the melody as she grabbed two bottles, one holding a black, the other a golden liquid. She moved with a dancer’s delicacy, collecting two more ingredients and her shaker. Cronyl had seen many different movements on the dance floor, yet none could have challenged her motions. The bottles swapped in her hands as if they were mere playthings, little details to aid her performance with flavor. Ice cubes snickered and aluminum clinked as she did her thing, her smile glued to her face.
Long locks bounced and flipped to each side as she shook the shaker, her figure in perfect sync with the music.
“Try it,” she purred, when she eventually turned with a shallow glass full of a pitch-black liquid, its mouth sprinkled with what seemed to be ordinary granulated sugar.
Cronyl found it hard to tear his gaze away from her. She looked at him from the glass, her face – surprisingly – radiating a kind of excitement he hadn’t found in this hole of lost souls anywhere else. Then, she smiled at him, gently pushing the glass forward.
He eyed the drink before he took a moderately big sip of it after a tiny shrug.
His throat caught on fire, some kind of alcohol and cinnamon burning up from the inside. However, a slight sourness washed it away, soothing it hand in hand with the overwhelming sweetness that sealed the experience. Cronyl’s mind ran away from him as he closed his eyes for a second, far from the nightclub back to a peaceful room. A closed place that felt vaster than the world under the open sky, because there was no rush, no crowd. He had no worries, nor he was alone. He’d been seen, bare and raw. The taste has been the one's who somehow knew him, but he couldn’t know her yet. Tender excitement spread inside his chest, a wait worth bearing. Sweat and perfume evaporated, and his nose filled with the strong, biting scent of cloves, and cinnamon, accompanied by something soothingly sweet.
Cronyl opened his eyes again, looking straight into the bartender’s eyes.
“Silent Night,” she said, biting her lip while smiling. “It fits you, don’t you think?”
He remained silent, the music changing and with that, he’d been violently yanked back into the present, all the quiet peacefulness disappearing.
“It does. How did you know?”
“Well, I’ve been watching you,” she admitted, her fingers playing with the rug in her hands. “You didn’t come here for the company or to lose yourself in the party. I thought you’ll drink yourself down, maybe. But you didn’t. Some things hold too much weight to drown them in alcohol. So, I guessed the silence you seek is not on the outside, but on the inside.”
A beginning smile found his lips as he put his elbows on the counter, holding her smiling eyes. He squinted, though, contemplating how she could figure this out. Those shadowed, golden-brown eyes pulled him inside, not making that so easy. The people’s chaotic crowd reflected in them, yet all he could see were those soft features, the way she played with the cloth’s edge, her lip still being held back with her teeth, all these so to speak nervous movements that didn’t match her slightly provocative way she put her clothes on today. Her genuine care beamed from every particle of her presence, but her waiting eyes told Cronyl something else.
She pursed her lips before she softly pulled on his shirt’s collar so she could invite him into a kiss.
He couldn’t deny his tiny surprise, but he didn’t pull away. Her soft embrace of a kiss found him tender, gently deepening as she licked the remaining drink off of his lips. Sensual, and forward, she leaned onto him showing up her eagerness. And that made Cronyl realize how hard she tried to cover something that might have been way too obvious to notice if you’d watched carefully. He didn’t know what exactly, nor how could he be so sure about that, but still, something deep within told him he should hold onto that feeling. And he if something, he knew that feeling way too well.
His fingers found her face, just before she slowly pulled away, breathless.
She looked at him with searching eyes, lips still smiling, with a great weight of visible nervousness.
“You’ve grown tired of not getting a taste of your creations, I take it.” He earned a moment of pause before a giggle bubbled up in her throat.
“You’ve got me.”
She wiped her lower lip with her thumb, maybe trying to cover how she looked away for a second. The neon streaks didn’t reach them anymore, and the changing music lost its edge, not being as loud as it has been before. It seemed as if the party turned its attention away from them as the night deepened onward.
Which meant in the shadows of the bar, Cronyl could get a glimpse of tiredness on her face.
“Do you want to get out of here?” she blurted, just before he could say anything else.
Cronyl thought of stopping looking at her for a second, but instead, he focused on her slightly reddened face, her full yet somehow empty eyes, and as she tried to hide the barely visible fidgeting of her body. She didn’t seem to be used to this, but something drove her to make this decision. And he could see in her reflection of her eyes that he looked exactly the same. It was strange and yet familiar. She was ready to run away from something and put her trust in him for that. And he realized he did the same when his answer materialized in his mind.
“Yes, yes I do.”

Fluffy Facts Tag Game
Tagged by @jess-p-edits! <3
Rules: List 5 or more cute or wholesome facts about your WIP, either events that happen or worldbuilding details or the like! Then tag some people you'd like to see do the game, too!
I’ll do some Metalsea facts because there’s more cute stuff in there.
In the draar culture, it’s a thing that the whole clan gathers around when it’s dinner time and dine together. The warriors, scouts stands up on the center rock stage and tell their new heroic, funny whatever stories in a slam poetry-like way, then the Seer goes up and they declaim thank you poems to their gods for the food and for the opportunity they all could be together that night.
There will be a time, when Avelyn, the pristess apprentice MC and Bra'aka, the warrior, father-like MC get some bonding over poetry. They both from the other one's "enemy" culture and Avelyn is a high society person, who lived kind of isolated in a temple, so she keeps the distance from Bra'aka at first, because she were thaught that draar people are dangerous. But when he saves her life, she will care for his injury and they'll find out that their passion is the same. They'll become besties or father-daughter figures and Bra'aka will carry her around on his shoulder. (yes, Bra'aka is a huge dude) They'll also write poetry to each other.
When Bra'aka saves Avelyn, he kills this very big, very dangerous predator that had a little one in it's nest. And since it's kind of a newborn and the draar are very big on honor, protecting the weaklings etc., he insists taking the little creature with him, despite the fact it probably will be just as dangerous when it grows up as it's parent. He swears to protect it as long as it can't care for itself, and obv they'll grow inseparable. (even tho there will be a little twist in their story).
Avelyn always helps her pristess apprentice friend’s by covering for them if they late from prayer.
The way Cronyl got his name intends to be heartwarming. His mother loved a flower that the draar rebels always brought to her when they had a meeting and the flower's name was crro on the draar language. They said they give this flower only those who they wish to get over every difficulty in life, because it's name came from their word for hope. So crro is basically the flower and hope. Cronyl's parents mixed this word with the word for seeing in their language (which is nyl in driadlin) and that's how he got his name. They wanted to represent the two cultures in his name and give a meaning that will hopefully affect Cronyl in life (in a good way). He's name basically means See Hope.
I just realised I gave almost all the fluffy stuff to Bra'aka and Avelyn but oh well, I love their dynamic and their relationships with other characters ugh.
Also my tags goes to @bloodlessheirbyjacques @friendlyneighborhood-writer @aschlindartroom and @athenixrose! No pressure as always <3

Ship Song Inspiration
Rules: tag the song you associate most with your ship
I was tagged by @aninkwellofnectar! Thank you and sorry, it comes a little late haha <3
I already did for the couples here, so I'll go with friendship and/or "siblingship" since I have at least two of that.
Avelyn and Syonehlia "sistership" in Metalsea. I love their dynamic.
Adran and Dane brothership in IQRUS. There's a part in a lyrics that literally describes one scene between them lol.
Drehan and Syonehlia's competitive, but strong friendship. Drehana literally teaches Syon fight so.
Cronyl and Darmon's friendship in Metalsea. The sad boy bunch.
Tagging: @bloodlessheirbyjacques, @jess-p-edits, @writingonesdreams, @approximately20blorbos, @friendlyneighborhood-writer, @aschlindartroom
If you guys already did it, then just tag someone else maybe. <3

Honestly, lol! The crazy weather is to blame, I tell you. Thank you for the well wishes, though❤️ And thank you for indulging my questions and being interested!❤️ (this got long so I'll leave here a cut)
Omg, that just sounds so good!! Why has it stopped? It sounds amazing! We should bring it back.
The competition will be in Hungarian, so I should write it that way, but... idk how will I manage that lol. I'm so used to write in English these days (and also read in English all the time) that I have no idea how to form an actual sentence on my main language sometimes. Let alone write in it. But I will get some detective books in Hungarian from the library soon, and I'll try to get myself back into writing in it. Or I'll just end up writing it in English first and then translate to Hungarian lmao.
Anyway, the plot. Oh, hehe, it's a funny thing because we just figured it out this afternoon with my partner (all-time sidekick in making my stories work), but! The plot mostly will revolve around the banning of weapons since it's a very big change in the society. It will show the shift, how the professionals like detectives, police officers etc. needed to get rid of their weapons, but the criminals still have them. In fact, some people became criminals because they possessed weapons. (Weapon is a loose term here, becuse it's everything that can harm people, so not just guns and stuff.) Thaddeus' dad, who I couldn't find a name yet, will need to find these bunch who do arms trades secretly and face them without any help of a harmful object; ergo he got only his brain to win this fight. There will be also some innovation, like programming the robots and androids (since IQRUS has a sci-fi/ cyberpunk world) to disarm people immediately when they witness a scene where someone wants to hurt another person. And this innovation will be still under development through the novella, so it will cause some fun mess there. But yeah, kinda this is what I got yet.
Well, the snippets. There's one Metalsea snippet with Avelyn and Syon and their sister bonding moment which I was inspired some months ago but couldn't finish yet. The other one is a fight scene (never wrote one so this is challenging) with Syon and Drehana. I try to explore the bonds and dynamics between my female characters, you see. And the last one is a goery, full of eldritch horror cult scene in IQRUS, which I got inspired by one of Nectar's tunesday posts. I intend to write that to her, but it's a scene I didn't plan to make it canon since it's something I wanted to leave it a mystery. But I got too motivated to write it and had some clear visions after that song in that post. It's hard to make it as eerie and chilling as I want to haha.
Ah, the sci-fi AU sounds so cool 👀 What will it be about? 👀 (also what is Whumptober? lol I'm so not up to date with these)
Ooo, I hope it will work out then, or you can do Tears of Iron in NaNo even. Well, my experience was actually that I did it kinda alone lol, because I wasn't a part of any community then. But the fact that I had a wordcount I needed to reach everyday or at least try to, really helped me. And, since the sprints with Jaq, I can see that if I would have some other people share their progress with me, it would be even more inspiring, for me personally.
Awww, congrats on 17K!!! ❤️❤️ I can totally understand it tho lol. It's sososo exciting when you get to the middle finally! I hope you can find people who can give you honest and respectful thoughts about it! (I'm always up for it too ofc, if you need)
Plans | October, November
Hey, I got sick which means I have some time, so I decided to make a little list of my writing plans for the upcoming months. It's very much needed. Mostly to me, but I'll share it here anyway to keep myself motivated to check it out sometimes lol. I also just want to share some things because I neglected tumblr for a while (still getting used to the new workplace, trying to build a scedule and some personal issues).
Anyway.
In October
Through these two months, I will focus on a novella in the world of IQRUS, since I've found a competition I want to submit a piece to and it's due date is December 21th. It's gonna be a detective story of the time, when hurtful objects and especially weapons got freshly banned from society. Thaddeus' dad will be the main character, a detective (shocking, I know) and I also want to put Dane and Adran's parents into it too. Even if just some side characters who Thaddeus' dad says hi to once. I'm so excited to start this honestly. But to be more specific, my plans are:
Oct 1. – Oct 15. Planning and fleshing the idea out.
Oct 16. – Oct 31. Plotting and Outlining.
In November
This year I want to participate in NaNo again, with this piece, because the last time I did it, it was more than a helpful thing. So, I might will leave updates here of my progress if you guys wouldn't mind it. I love sharing stuff, it keeps me inspired for some reason, so if you guys will do NaNo or just want to share your (any) progress with me, please always do! I love seeing how you lovely souls are going with everything!
That said, I will take breaks and work on other things as I know myself, so the prompts you dears sent me will help me lot, thank you! ❤️ Plus, if you want to know anything about this novella, feel free to ask about it, in a random ask, in DMs or in Blorbo, WBW etc. Every kind of interest is welcome!
Also, if my doctor will tell me I need to take the whole week off (i doubt it and i hope not, but who knows), then I might will catch up with asks and maybe finish my unfinished snippets I started working on. There's three in the making, two from Metalsea and one from IQRUS.
That's it for now from my side. How about yours, loves? Any plans for the rest of the year? Would love to know, so feel free to share!
